‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Hooks No. 1, ‘Baywatch’ Belly Flops LOS ANGELES - Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is sailing into first place at the domestic box office this weekend, but the story the numbers dictate is not one of swashbuckling heroics. Johnny Depp’s fifth outing as Jack Sparrow is looking at a three-day total of $62.2 million from 4,276 locations, and a four-day holiday weekend sum of $77 million. If not for international appeal, that would be a let down for a movie riding on a $230 million production budget. The first place finish also can’t cover up a serious case of franchise fatigue. “Dead Men Tell No Tales” is the lowest opening for a Pirates movie apart from the original, which earned over $46 million in its first weekend (and was also the only installation approved by critics). Last time out in 2011, “On Stranger Tides” pulled in $90 million in its opening weekend. That’s still less than 2007’s “At World’s End” ($114.7 million) and 2006’s “Dead Man’s Chest” ($135.6 million). But it’s no question why Disney is still churning out sequels -- combined, the movies have made $1.3 billion domestically and $3.8 billion worldwide. “Dead Men Tell No Tales” centers on Sparrow battling deadly ghost sailors, led by the Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar. Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg directed the film, which also sees the return of both Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, who were absent from the fourth installment. Over time the “Pirates” franchise has become more reliant on overseas ticket sales, and that’s certainly the case this time out. The studio should make back its production budget this weekend once worldwide ticket sales are taken into account. Since the franchise still makes money (even if U.S. grosses are dwindling) this may not be the last we see of Captain Sparrow. Meanwhile, Paramount’s “Baywatch” was hoping to make an oceanic summer splash, but looks to have ended up in the kiddie pool. The rebooted property should land a three-day total of $18.1 million from 3,647 locations and end the four-day holiday weekend with $22 million. That’s far below early estimates. The movie carries a $60 million production budget. This is the latest in a string of misses for the studio this year including “Ghost in the Shell,” “Rings,” “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage,” and “Monster Trucks.” Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron star in the comedy that spawned from the 1990s NBC drama starring David Hasselhoff and a team of lifeguards who patrolled the beaches of Los Angeles. This time around it’s Johnson, an experienced and devoted lifeguard, who butts heads with a new recruit, Efron, until they uncover a criminal plot. (rtr)

CANNES - “The Square”, a Swedish movie about the curator of a museum filled with grotesquely pretentious conceptual art, beat stiff competition to win the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday. Critics hailed the movie by writer-director Ruben Ostlund as “high-wire cinema” that veers between comedy and thriller with moments of pure surrealism, though some said it could easily have shed part of its 2 hours and 22 minutes running time. Philippines puts city on lockdown over fears of militant infiltration

MARAWI - The Philippine city of Iligan was overflowing with evacuees and on lockdown on Monday over fears Islamist militants had sneaked out of nearby Marawi, where troops were battling to drive out gunmen holed up in buildings for a seventh day. The fighting in the city of Marawi with pro-Islamic State militants of the Maute group is the biggest security challenges of Rodrigo Duterte’s 11-month presidency, with gunmen still holding parts of the city and fending off helicopter air strikes and ground attacks by commandos.

Most of Marawi’s 200,000 people have left, many pouring into Iligan, some 38 km (24 miles) away, where authorities said they were stretched to the limit and worried that Maute fighters were blending in with the displaced and could launch attacks. “We don’t want what’s happening in Marawi to spill over in Iligan,” said Colonel Alex Aduca, chief of the Fourth Mechanized Infantry Battalion. “We want to ensure the safety of people here, to prevent elements from entering and conducting terroristic activities,” he told DZMM radio. He said some rebels had been caught trying to get into Iligan, but did not

give details. Sixty-one militants, 20 members of the security forces and 19 civilians have been killed since Tuesday, when Maute rebels went on the rampage in Marawi after a botched attempt by the military to arrest Isnilon Hapilon, who the government believes is a point man for Islamic State in the Philippines. The ability of the Maute group to fight off the military for so long will add to fears that Islamic State’s radical ideology is spreading in the southern Philippines, and it could become a haven for militants from Indonesia, Malaysia and beyond. The military believes the Maute carried out their assault before the

Muslim holy month of Ramadan to capture the attention of Islamic State and earn its recognition as a Southeast Asian affiliate. CROSSING services by using boat to Trunyan’s cemetery and Trunyan village are often complained by visitors wishing to cross. It is said that boat captain often turns off the boat engine in the middle of the lake, arguing there is engine trouble. Inevitably, they often ask for money to visitors for the cost of boat repair. However, lately the services to visitors begin to be tightened. As a result, the guards from Kedisan Pier no longer receive any reports from visitors after using the boat services following their visit to Trunyan. Chief of Lake Batur Crossing Unit, Bangli Transportation Agency, Ketut Nasta, said that his unit did not dismiss that previously there were many visitors complaining after crossing to Trunyan and Trunyan village because the services are not maximal. “Previously, there were indeed many complaints received from visitors. They complained about less optimal services when crossing because the boat engine was suddenly off in the middle of the lake,” said Nasta on Sunday (May 28). Nasta added that seeing the complaints continuing to appear, gradually his unit begins to instruct to boat captains in order that they can provide services properly and maximally. Besides, they are asked to prioritize services to visitors considering that what happens will greatly affect the incoming tourist visit. “In 1997, visitors were very booming. At that time, we lacked of parking space due to many visitors. Slowly the number of visitors began to decrease. Probably, it also became one of the factors for visitor decline due to such negative impression having spread from mouth to mouth. So, tourists can cancel their travel after hearing the issues,” he said. He stated that lately he is diligent to ask all visitors after coming back from Trunyan cemetery and Trunyan village related to services provided during the visit. After asking about the services provided for visitors, guests stated that the services have started to be good. “Moreover, we affirm to visitors that they should say frankly whether the services are good or poor. We do not want visitors admitted to be good here, but outside there is not good. We do not want this kind of testimony. We want visitors to be honest. For instance, if the services are still lacking, we will improve them to be better,” said Nasta. He said that to provide maximum services for incoming visitors, his unit has given directions to boat captains so as not to make things less good when delivering visitors. Moreover, his unit has routinely provided guidance for all boat captains. This measure is taken to avoid complaints by visitors. “We routinely provide coaching for boat captains. Besides, now we have obliged that all the boat captains should bring communication device in the form of hand phone. So, in case the boat engine is off in the middle of the lake, they can directly contact us at the pier. By that way, the officers will immediately come down to location because hand phone is a simple communication tool that can be brought by all the people,” he said. Further, he explained that currently Kedisan Pier has a total of 21 fiber boats used to serve visitors to cross. “If leaked, fiber is more easily repaired and will not take long time to do it,” said Nasta. To overcome the problems of service standards, PUTRI will also conduct some training for tourist objects so that they always operate pursuant to the standards of service. Some places have applied the service standards such as Tanah Lot, Pandawa Beach, Monkey Forest, Uluwatu, and so on. “This is what we have to distinguish between the tourist attractions from the owners. The business owners have referred to professionalism. However, the tourist objects and the tourism village should be featured to the surface,” he explained. Indha Trimafo Yudha, said that the existence of PUTRI is the same as the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI). PUTRI is incorporated under GIPI (Association of Indonesia Tourism Industry) and in Bali it is called the Bali Tourism Board (BTB). PUTRI members comprise not only recreational park business players but also the communities, museums and royal palaces. It also includes some other tourism-related companies such as Krisna Funtastic Land making the tourism distribution to the northern part of Bali. Besides, there are Pemuteran, John Hardy, ITDC, Tanah Lot, Ubud Monkey Forest, Safari Park, Bali Zoo and some others. General Secretary of GIPI, I Gede Nurjaya, said that tourist visit to Bali will be getting more and more. The services provided by hotels and tourist guides are good. However, so far the complaints occurred are related to quality in the existing objects. Therefore, PUTRI is expected to focus on its activities related to improvement of the whole members. According to the statues, PUTRI has the members

consisting of recreational park, whether they are nature, religious, historical or man-made tourist destinations. He still received many complaints from tourists or other countries related to security, order, comfort and so forth. Commercial Division Head of Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Ratna, said that PUTRI must move because accommodation is inseparable from tourist destinations. It needs standards so that he advised guests to visit the tourist destinations having the standards conforming to international standards. In the future, PUTRI should have a clear packaging so that from one district to another district can be spent within 4 days or more. “Thus, they will not get out or go anywhere, it is enough to be spent here (in Bali),” he said. The Board of Trustee, Anak Agung Gede Agung, said that PUTRI having existed since long time ago is expected to contribute in advancing Bali tourism because tourists that come to Bali will definitely visit tourist destinations. Construction begins on world’s largest telescope in Chilean desert ATACAMA DESERT - Construction began in Chile on Friday on the European Extremely Large Telescope, which when completed will be the world’s largest optical telescope, some five times larger than the top observing instruments in use today. The size of the ELT has the potential to transform our understanding of the universe, say its backers, with its main mirror that will measure some 39 meters (43 yards) across. Located on a 3,000 meter-high

mountain in the middle of the Atacama desert, it is due to begin operating in 2024. Among other capabilities, it will add to and refine astronomers’ burgeoning discoveries of planets orbiting other stars, with

the ability to find more smaller planets, image larger ones, and possibly characterize their atmospheres, a key step in understanding if life is present. “What is being raised here is more than a telescope. Here we

see one of the greatest examples of the possibilities of science,” said Chilean President Michelle Bachelet in a speech to mark the beginning of construction at the site. Outside the band, Juno found other features in the atmosphere, rather than the expected homogeneous mix of gas. “Jupiter is surprising us in almost every way,” lead researcher Scott Bolton, with the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas, said in a phone interview. “We’re seeing hints that it is pretty exotic.” Preliminary results suggest that Jupiter may have winds at all levels creating movement, an unanticipated finding, he added. Scientists expected Jupiter, which is more than 11 times the diameter of Earth, to be fairly uniform beneath its clouds. But “it doesn’t look like its rotating like a solid body,” Bolton said. The findings released on Thursday were based on data collected when Juno passed about 2,600 miles (4,200 km) around Jupiter’s poles on Aug. 27.

During Juno’s next flyby on July 11, the spacecraft will pass directly over the planet’s Great Red Spot, a massive storm south of the equator that has existed for centuries. Scientists hope to learn how the storm maintains itself and if a mass of material underlies the churning clouds. Juno is expected to continue its highly elliptical orbit around Jupiter for months, swooping close every 53 days to map the planet’s interior so scientists can learn more about how and where Jupiter formed. Like the sun, the gas giant is mostly hydrogen and helium, but it also has carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and other elements, as well as organics and gases. Scientists hope that learning more about Jupiter’s evolution will illuminate how Earth – and possibly other planets – were supplied with the ingredients for life. (rtr)

Lembongan divers form community to rescue coral reef

Behind the stunning charm of the waters of Nusa Penida, in fact, the development of marine tourism threatens the existence of coral reef and other marine biota. It happens because of increasing number of underwater tourist service businesses followed by rampant violation against the rules in the water conservation area of Nusa Penida. This endless polemic encountered some interrelated factors for the continuity of sustainable tourism. Besides, this condition is also aggravated by more irresponsible diving and snorkeling operators. Responding to this problem, Lembongan local divers gathered to establish a community. This dive association is named the Lembongan Diving Community (KPL). On the occasion, this community also elected the administrators consisting of Chairman (I Wayan Gede Lama), Deputy Chairman (I Kadek Jaya Suara), Secretary (I Wayan Bagiayasa) and Treasurer (I Wayan Sujana). The community will be addressing various issues that threaten the existence of coral reef and marine biota in the area. The divers relying on their lives from marine tourism

and the beauty of the sea revealed that a few divers and snorkeling players violate the provisions such as touching coral reef and even stepping on it. A diver from Nusa Penida, Gede Sukayasa, accommodating diving companies in Nusa Lembongan, said this underwater observer community of Nusa Penida is indeed very much required. “The community we need is a group of people wishing to take care of the underwater environment where we work,” he said on Sunday (May 28). In line with Sukayasa, Kadek Jaya Suara also expected the participation of divers in environmental conservation. “Here we need a legal organization that can work with the government to maintain

the survival of our marine biota,” added Jaya Suara. Wayan Gede Lama as the Head of the Lembongan Diver Community (KPL) hoped that all members will work to rescue coral reef for the sake of marine tourism continuity. One of the real movements that can be done by the community is by providing counseling in the community or school to foster a sense of love to the beauty of marine tourism through introduction on the diving activities. KPL will also cooperate with Lembongan Marine Association (LMA) accommodating the diving companies in Nusa Lembongan established earlier. The cyclones were discovered as the Juno spacecraft made the first of at least 12 planned close encounters with Jupiter, which scientists believe set the stage for the development of Earth and other planets in the solar system. Juno found cyclones as big as 870 miles (1,400 km) in diameter swirling over Jupiter’s north and south poles, the research published in this week’s issue of the journal Science shows. Festival Tepi Sawah organisers Nita Aartsen, Anom Darsana and Etha Widiyanto certainly felt the call to address this need when they came up with the concept of an environmental awareness art festival set in nature. Creating art in a spirit of cooperation for the love of mother earth, is the guiding principle of this unique festival that will bring together artists from a variety of disciplines to perform, create, display and share their talents with the specific purpose of sharing knowledge and inspiration for the good of the environment. Sri Lanka faces more landslide risks as death toll rises to 151

AGALAWATTE - Landslides and floods in Sri Lanka have killed at least 151 people and the country faces the risk of more mudslides as torrential rains continue, officials said on Sunday. More than 100 people are still missing after the worst rains in the Indian Ocean island since 2003. The state-run National Building Research Organization warned people in seven out of the country’s 25 districts to evacuate from unstable slopes if rains continue for the next 24 hours. The Department of Meteorology said there could be heavy rain falls of above 100 millimeters in central Sri Lanka within the next 36 hours. The death toll has risen to 151, while 111 people are still reported missing and 95 injured, the staterun Disaster Management Center said. Nearly 500,000 people have been affected by the disaster, the worst since the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, and the downpours have displaced over 100,000 Sri Lankans. People in Agalawatte, 74 km (46

SEOUL - North Korea fired what appeared to be a short-range ballistic missile on Monday that landed in the sea off its east coast, the latest in a series of missile tests defying world pressure and threats of more sanctions. The missile was believed to be a Scud-class ballistic missile and flew about 450 km (280 miles), South Korean officials said. North Korea has a large stockpile of the short-range missiles, originally developed by the Soviet Union. Monday’s launch follows two successful tests of medium to long range missiles in as many weeks by Pyongyang, which has been conducting such tests at an unprecedented pace in an effort to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of hitting the mainland United States. It is the third test-launch since South Korea’s liberal President Moon Jae-in took office on May 10 pledging to engage the reclusive state in dialogue. Moon says sanctions alone have failed to resolve the growing threat from the North’s advancing nuclear and missile programme. North Korea, which has conducted dozens of missile tests and tested two nuclear bombs since the start of 2016 in defiance of U.N. China’s slam dunk “sharing economy” booms, but can it last?

BEIJING, May 29 (Reuters) - Fancy shooting some hoops, but don’t have a basketball? Caught in the rain with no umbrella? Smartphone run out of juice? China’s rapidly expanding “sharing economy”, which already provides car rides and bicycle hire on demand, can help. For just 2 yuan ($0.30) an hour, Nate Liu, a student at the Beijing Language and Culture University, rents a basketball from a court-side vending machine by scanning a barcode on his smartphone. “I didn’t want to ask around and borrow a ball after losing mine, so I decided to give it a try,” Liu told Reuters. Far away, in China’s wetter south, some 20,000 umbrellas have been released on to the streets of Shenzhen, and can be rented - unlocked by another smartphone barcode scan - for just half a yuan ($0.07) for 30 minutes. The umbrellas can be dropped off “wherever convenient”, though users are encouraged to keep them, says Zhao Shuping, founder of E Umbrella Sharing, one of a handful of start-ups offering the service. China’s government has taken notice, and expects the “sharing economy” to grow about 40 percent this year to 4.83 trillion yuan ($705 billion). By 2020, it should account for around one tenth of GDP, illustrating China’s aspiration to become a sharing economy leader on a global scale. PricewaterhouseCoopers predicts five sharing sectors - car sharing, travel, finance, staffing, and music and video streaming - have the potential to increase global revenue to $335 billion by 2025 from $15 billion today. Most of the money behind China’s ballooning sharing economy comes from angel investors and venture capital firms. At least 1.69 billion yuan ($247 million) in mostly series-A, or early stage, funding was invested in AprilMay in over two dozen start-ups offering sharing services, according to Reuters calculations based on data from Chinese data firm IT Juzi. Twelve firms renting out power banks - typically compact, mobile battery chargers - secured 1.13 billion yuan, while newer businesses such as basketball and umbrella-sharing took in about 25 million yuan ($3.65 million) combined. While mobile-savvy, convenience-obsessed Chinese welcome the innovations, some critics question whether the demand is real, or sustainable. They say the low-revenue, capital-intensive model means profitability can be elusive. “Young people are embracing renting as a way of life instead of possessing things,” said Emma Zhu, investment director at Beijing-based Innoangel fund, who has held off investing in any of these start-ups. “But the sharing model won’t work in every situation. MUNICH - Europe can no longer completely rely on its allies, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Sunday, pointing to bruising meetings of G7 wealthy nations and NATO last week. Merkel did not mention by name U.S. President Donald Trump, who criticised major NATO allies and refused to endorse a global climate change accord, but she told a packed beer tent in Munich that the days when Europe could completely count on others were “over to a certain extent”. “I have experienced this in the last few days,” she said. “And that is why I can only say that we Europeans must really take our fate into our own hands - of course in friendship with the United States of America, in friendship with Great Britain and as good neighbours wherever that is possible also with other countries, even with Russia.” “But we have to know that we must fight for our future on our own, for our destiny as Europeans,” Merkel said.

The two-day G7 summit in Italy pitted Trump against the leaders of Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Japan on several issues, with European diplomats frustrated at having to revisit questions they had hoped were long settled. The American tycoon-turned-president backed a pledge to fight protectionism at the end of the G7 summit on Saturday, but refused to endorse the climate pact, saying he needed more time to decide. But EU Council President Donald Tusk said on Sunday he was more optimistic now than after the U.S. election last November after EU leaders held talks with Trump in Brussels. “What I am absolutely sure after this meeting is that despite some extraordinary ... expressions, behaviours, etc, etc,

LONDON - If the Scottish National Party wins the most seats in Scotland at a June 8 election, Prime Minister Theresa May’s refusal to agree to a second independence referendum will be unsustainable, Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said on Sunday. The SNP, which won 56 of parliament’s 59 Scottish seats at the last election in 2015, has said Scots should get another say on independence once the terms of Britain’s EU exit are clear. Polls show the SNP is set to easily win in Scotland in June, though May’s Conservatives are expected to take some seats from them as the issue of keeping the United Kingdom together takes centre stage. May has said now is not the time to discuss a fresh independence vote. Scots rejected independence by 10 percentage points in 2014 and support for secession since then is little changed. “If the SNP win the election on June 8 in Scotland, and I am taking nothing for granted, ... then I think that position of the prime minister is unsustainable,” Sturgeon said in an interview with the BBC. She said the win would add weight to the SNP’s victory in the Scottish election last year and a vote in the Scottish parliament giving her a fresh mandate to seek a new referendum. Sturgeon pointed to other times May has changed her mind. On Monday May was forced to backtrack on one of her Conservative Party’s most high-profile election pledges to force elderly people to pay more for their social care after her opinion poll lead halved. “In politics positions quickly become unsustainable and we have seen in the last few days ... this is not a prime minister who is very good at holding positions under pressure. She is a prime minister that has seemed to perfect the art of the U-turn,” Sturgeon said. The SNP will insist on Scotland’s right to decide its own future as Britain leaves the European Union when it sets out is preelection policy document on Tuesday. Trucks loaded with marines arrived to reinforce soldiers guarding deserted streets as helicopters circulated above the lakeside city surrounded by jungle-clad hills. The military said the Maute group was still present in nine of the city’s 96 Barangays, or communities. Thousands of people were stranded, worried they could be intercepted by militants that have set up checkpoints on routes out of the city. Civilians stuck in Marawi were without food and were as anxious about rocket strikes as much as they were the militants, said Zia Alonto Adiong, a politician coordinating efforts to evacuate civilians. He said there were still dead bodies in Marawi and civilians wanted the military to stop air strikes. “The anticipation of death is worse than death itself,” he said in

a television interview. “We appeal to our military forces to do a different approach.” Bodies of what appeared to be executed civilians were found in a ravine outside a Marawi on Sunday as the crisis took a more sinister turn. Most of the eight men were shot in the head and some had bound hands. The army said it was possible more “atrocities” had taken place. Duterte imposed martial law last week on Mindanao, an island of 22 million people where both Marawi and Iligan are located, to quell the unrest and wipe out militancy. Some rights activists and lawmakers say martial law across the island is an overreaction that will increase the risk of human rights abuses by security forces. European allies see the two sides of Trump

TAORMINA - In Sicily, Donald Trump listened attentively during complex G7 debates over trade and climate change, smiled for the cameras, and for the most part refrained from provocative tweets. In Brussels, he bashed NATO partners for not spending more on defence, shoved the prime minister of Montenegro and renewed his attacks on Germany’s trade surplus with the United States. America’s allies witnessed the two sides of Trump on his first foreign trip as U.S. president, a nineday tour that began with sword dancing in Saudi Arabia and vague pledges in Israel to deliver Middle East peace. As Trump headed home, European officials were left with mixed feelings: relief that he had been patient enough to listen to their arguments and unsettled by a Jekylland-Hyde figure who is still finding his way on the big policy issues. “It all fits with his strategic ambiguity approach to life,” said Julianne Smith of the Centre for a New American Security. “It may do wonders when dealing with adversaries. But it doesn’t work when dealing with allies,” she said.

Other leaders of the Group of Seven nations had viewed with trepidation their summit, held at a cliff-top hotel overlooking the Mediterranean, after four preparatory meetings failed to clear up differences with the Trump administration on trade, how to deal with Russia and climate change. Some 532 planes operational for 2017 Lebaran transportation

TANGERANG - Director General of Air Transportation at the Transportation Ministry Agus Santoso said that 532 planes will be operational for the domestic and international trips during the 2017 Eid al-Fitr period. As many as 35 airports will be involved in serving the 532 planes, Santoso said in Soekarno-Hatta international airport here on Sunday. Santoso further said that his side has set 275,256 low additional seats (five percent) of regular capacity of 5.5 million seats since the seven days before and after (H-7 and H + 7) the Eid al-Fitr period. Meanwhile, for the overseas flights regular capacity, there will be 886,075 seats with an additional 44,304 seats flight forecasts (five percent), so the total capacity reaches 930,379 seats since the H-7 and H + 7 of the Eid al-Fitr period, he revealed. The airlines that have applied for the additional flights including the Garuda Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air, Indonesia AirAsia Extra, Malaysia Airline, Singapore Airlines, Silk Air, Jetstar Asia Airways and Cathay Pacific. In addition, the airlines are required to meet the airworthiness of aircraft and check the fleet readiness periodically to be operated in 2017 the Eid al-Fitr (Lebaran) period. The Transportation Ministry predicted that the number of Eid alFitr holidaymakers traveling by plane this year will increase by 9.8 percent to 5.5 million, from 4.9 million last year. (ant)

Indonesia, Australia cooperate to win world market access

JAKARTA - Indonesia and Australia through the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership (IA-CEPA) talks have agreed to take advantage of opportunities in third countries and world markets. Chairman of the Indonesian Negotiation Team Deddy Saleh said the two countries were committed to cooperating in various fields, in taking advantage of not only respective markets but also of the third countries and the world, normally called the principle of economic powerhouse. “This principle will continue to be discussed and clarified later in various programs of cooperation under the Economic Cooperation Chapter,” Deddy said, in a written statement received in Jakarta on Sunday. Deddy said the two countries expressed the commitment at the seventh round of the IA-CEPA talks. At the talks, the two successfully completed negotiations with positive results, including issues related to economic cooperation (EC). Both sides felt they were optimistic to complete negotiations by the end of 2017. One of the good developments of the talks is the agreement on elements that will serve as the basis for drafting economic cooperation. “The EC is an integral part of the negotiations that distinguishes the IA-CEPA with the other free trade agreement (FTA),” said Deddy. In the FTA, said Deddy, there was only agreement on market access, while in CEPA there are articles on Economic Cooperation which Indonesia can take positive benefits from the partner countries. According to Deddy, in the 7th round of talks, the two countries had significant discussions, both on market access agreement and text agreement. To that end, the negotiations are expected to bring the two countries to a step closer towards completing talks. “If in the previous round of talks, discussions were still marked with an exchange of views, the latest talks have developed into negotiations on agreement text and market access,” said Deddy. The main issue discussed at the IA-CEPA round of talks covered trade in goods, including rules of goods origin and customs procedures, trade facilitation and technical trade barriers. It also included the question of service trade, including financial services, telecommunications, movement of persons and investment, electronic commerce, business competition, and regulation of the institutional framework. Government to evacuate 11 Indonesians from Marawi

JAKARTA - The government is currently seeking to evacuate 11 Indonesians from the besieged Marawi City on the southern island of Mindanao, the Philippines, Head of National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Police Setyo Wasisto stated here, Monday. “We are trying to repatriate them to Indonesia,” Wasisto remarked at the National Police Office in Jakarta. Following intense clashes earlier, the 11 Indonesian citizens are currently reported to be in a good condition, he noted. According to the Indonesian Consulate General in Davao City and the countrys police attache to the Philippines, the 11 Indonesian citizens are in the Philippines to spread the teachings of Islam. “We confirmed that they are not affiliated to the IS-linked insurgents, Wasisto remarked. The Briton told reporters after the German handed Ferrari their first Monaco Grand Prix win in 16 years that the Italian team was clearly favouring the championship leader over his team mate Kimi Raikkonen. Francesco Totti bid an emotional farewell to Roma after a remarkable 25-season career with his hometown club on Sunday, contributing to a 3-2 win over Genoa in Serie A that secured the Giallorossi a spot in the Champions League. Almost 60,000 fans inside the Stadio Olimpico stood up and cheered when the 40-year-old Totti replaced Mohamed Salah in the 54th minute. The chosen one will also inherit a handful of small, but serious flaws whose handling will determine whether he is a success or failure. Ernesto Valverde, who recently left Athletic Bilbao, is the leading candidate to replace a worn-out Luis Enrique. The official announcement is expected after the club’s board meeting on Monday. “On Monday we will know officially and the coach that comes will have the qualities to carry this team forward,” Andres Iniesta said after Barcelona salvaged its otherwise disappointing season by winning the Copa del

Rey on Saturday. “Now our task is to keep winning,” Iniesta said. “When you don’t achieve your objectives, which is to win major titles, your season wasn’t a good one. Before last season, the club tried to bulk up its midfield by signing Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez. But the team struggled to dictate matches when the Iniesta was off the pitch, leaving Messi as its best playmaker.
