Brad Pitt backs with “Fury”

Brad Pitt gives his best stubbly, and battle-scarred look in the first poster for his new World War II drama Fury, coming to theaters this November. In the movie, he plays a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant known as “Wardaddy” who heads up a five-man Sherman tank unit into Germany. The moody image, featuring ominous grey clouds and a pensive Pitt gazing down from the turret of his

tank, stands in contrast to the poster for his last WWII epic, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, in which

a defiant Pitt stood tall — his back literally to the wall — staring straight at the viewer. This new poster is, however,

similar to a different Basterds banner which also had its title was scrawled on a weapon Fury is from writer/director David Ayer (End of Watch), and it also stars Shia LaBeouf , Logan Lerman, Jon Bernthal and Michael Peña.

Paul McCartney: Feeling better, ready to tour

GLENDALE - Dozens of Michael Jackson fans laid heaps of flowers Wednesday at the mausoleum where the pop icon is interred, to mark the 5th anniversary of his death. Around 100 fans, some dressed as the self-proclaimed King of Pop, gathered at the Forest Lawn cemetery outside Los Angeles, where the 50-year-old died while rehearsing for a comeback tour. “We love you Michael,” read a banner on a giant red heart placed outside the small mausoleum in Glendale, north of downtown LA. Jackson died on June 25, 2009 of an overdose of the clinical anesthetic propofol, administered by his doctor to help treat insomnia as the singer prepared for “This is It” shows in London. His personal medic Conrad Murray was convicted of invol-

untary manslaughter in 2011 over the star’s death and jailed for four years. He was released in October after serving two years. Jackson was planning a global comeback tour to help him stave off bankruptcy, five years after being acquitted of child molestation charges which left his career in tatters. He had debts of up to $500 million before his death, but in the five years since, his executors have earned more than $700 million, according to a recent book, “Michael Jackson Inc.” Money-making ventures have included the “This is It” movie of rehearsals for the doomed tour, a touring Cirque du Soleil stage show and two posthumous albums so far, with more to come.

TABANAN - Discourse on the continuation Bedugul geothermal project in Baturiti reaped a reaction from the Regent of Tabanan, Ni Putu Eka Wiryastuti. The regent of the PDI-P party ascertained not to approve the geothermal project continuation. She argued that she wanted to save the nature of Bedugul from the possibility of negative impact generated by the mega project.

LONDON — Paul McCartney says he’s feeling fab and ready to rock ‘n’ roll. The 72-year-old former Beatle posted a brief YouTube video Tuesday night saying he’s recovered from a virus that forced him to cancel shows in Japan and South Korea, and delay the opening of a U.S. tour. He said the first U.S. show is set for July 5 in Albany, New York. The canceled U.S. dates have been rescheduled for September and October. The singer seemed fit and in good spirits as he thanked fans for their concern about his health.

“So, I reiterate that there is no continuation of geothermal project. We reject the continuation of the power plant project. It is for the sake of the nature of Bali,” said Eka Wiryastuti. Her party also questioned why the geothermal power plant (PLTPB) project at Bedugul emerged again. Actually, the project has been rejected by the Bali House. “We are very dear to the nature of Bali, especially Bedugul area. So, there is no longer the continuation of geothermal project,” she stated. She hoped the geothermal project at Bedugul not to be tampered with as it had been finally rejected

by the Bali House. Her party worried, if the project would be continued it surely kindled new polemic, especially in Tabanan. Aside from rejecting the continuation of geothermal project, Regent Eka also disagreed to the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. She said the reclamation would have an impact on the opening of the opportunities for mass urbanization, not to mention the issue of environmental damages. “Likewise, I reject the reclamation. It will have an impact on the environment of Bali. Do not let the reclamation plan trigger new issues. Bali should be sustainable,” she said.

According to her, the nature of Bali was different from that of other islands. Balinese society, she said, was always respecting religion, customs and culture used as the basic capital of life all the times. As reported previously, a suspicion emerged that Benoa Bay reclamation would have an impact on the Bedugul geothermal project. The presence of reclamation project was ascertained to need for greater electricity. One of the projects suspected to be continued in order to increase the supply of electricity was the geothermal drilling at Bedugul. From the notes of Bali Post, the Bedugul geothermal project continued to reap polemic among residents, especially in the vicinity of the drilling area, Candikuning, Baturiti. Moreover, all this time, the community figures of Baturiti claimed to have never been given socialization regarding the fate of geothermal project. Similarly, they worried if the project would have a fatal impact on the environment. (kmb30)
