Michael Douglas to be honoured with Hollywood Walk Of Fame star LOS ANGELES - Hollywood “legend” Michael Douglas is to receive a star on the Walk of Fame after almost 50 years in the business.

The Oscar-winning actor, best known for his roles in Wall Street, Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction, Falling Down and Romancing The Stone, is being honoured in the Motion Pictures category.

His star will be placed just a few feet away from that of his father, 101-year-old Kirk Douglas, the veteran actor behind Paths Of Glory, Lust for Life and Spartacus.

Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame, said: “Michael Douglas is what legends are made of. He joins his legendary actor/ father Kirk Douglas whose star and Michael’s will forever shine just a few feet from one another.

“We have been patiently waiting for Michael Douglas to unveil his stellar award since he was selected in 2003 and are so excited to finally honour this Hollywood royal with

a star on our historic Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

Douglas first found fame in the 1970s while starring in police procedural US TV show The Streets Of San Francisco.

He won his first Oscar for producing, rather than acting, for One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, which was released in 1975.

He went on to become one of the most successful actors of his era, winning his second Oscar for his portrayal of amoral banker Gordon Gekko in 1987’s Wall Street.

Douglas married Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000 and they have two children, Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta.

He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2010, and beat the disease after being treated with radiation and chemotherapy.

His more recent films include Ant-Man, Behind The Candelabra and a reprisal of his role as Gekko in 2010’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. (IBP/net)

EDINBURGH - An American “professional huntress” has been sent death threats after posing with a dead goat she shot in Scotland.

Larysa Switlyk sparked outrage after posting pictures of herself with the wild goat on Islay.

She described the goat as “beautiful” and said it had been “such a fun hunt!”.

The TV presenter went on to write: “Made a perfect 200 yard shot and dropped in with the @ gunwerks and @nightforce_optics! Good thing too because he could have ran off the cliff into the water).”

More than 12,000 people com-

mented on the image and in response, the Scottish government has promised to review animal culling laws.

The TV presenter now says she is taking a break from social media and is “headed out on a bush plane for my next hunting adventure”.

Posting a new picture - this time of herself next to a small plane - she wrote: “My ride has arrived - I’m headed out on a bush plane for my next hunting adventure and will be out of service for 2 weeks.

“Nothing better than disconnecting from this social media-driven world and connecting back with nature.

“Hopefully that will give enough time for all the ignorant people out there sending me death threats to get educated on hunting and conservation. FYI, I was in Scotland over a month ago...”

Ms Switlyk had also posted photos of hunting companions with stags and sheep during the trip.

Trump accused of inciting violence after pipe bomb alerts

Critics of Donald Trump accused him of inciting violence after pipe bombs were sent to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, CNN and other figures that are loathed by the president’s supporters.

With midterm elections less than two weeks away, Trump reacted Wednesday to the rapid fire spate of bomb alerts by first calling for unity, but then reverting to attacking the media. CNN is known for its often critical coverage of the Trump administration and has constantly provoked the ire of the president, who defeated Clinton in 2016 to succeed Obama.

From the White House, Trump first said “acts of political violence” have “no place in the United States.”

“Those engaged in the political arena must stop treating political opponents as being morally defec-

tive,” he later told a campaign rally in Wisconsin, before switching his criticism back to the media.

“The media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and stop the endless hostility and constant negative, and often times false attacks and stories,” he added. “They’ve got to stop.” #MAGABomber trended as users flooded Twitter with accusations that Trump had incited the attempted attacks and highlighting the toxic remarks he has leveled against the pipe bomb targets in the past.

2019 election logistics starts to arrive

DENPASAR - Logistics of the Election 2019 such as ballot boxes and cardboard voting booths have begun to arrive at district / municipal Electoral Commission (KPU) in Bali. Until Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 24), it was already received by Badung Electoral Commission, while the logistics of other districts / municipality remains incomplete.

“Related to the arrival of the logistics, some have indeed been in accordance with the needs while some others have not. For the districts/municipality having not received complete items, the shortcomings have been reported to Bali Electoral Commission,” said Commissioner of KPU Bali, I Gede John Darmawan, when asked for his confirmation on Wednesday (Oct. 24).

Bali Electoral Commission recorded, continued John, that Badung has received complete logistics in the form of 6,866 cardboard ballot boxes and 1,515 cardboard voting booths. Tabanan still lacks 65 ballot boxes from the total needs of 7,875 boxes and 16 voting booths from the needs of 2,682 voting booths. Bangli still lacks 5 ballot boxes from the needs of 4,264 boxes, while the voting booth has been fulfilled.

“Bangli needs 3,372 for voting booths, while the received ones amount to 933 booths. In the meantime, there have been 2,439 aluminum booths, so that the booth has been fulfilled as needed,” he explained.

John added the aluminum booths also cover the deficiency of cardboard box delivery in Denpasar and Jembrana. In Denpasar, the demand for booths reached 6,528 pieces. However, so far it just received 320 cardboard boxes.

Since there have been 5,847 voting booths, the shortage of booths can be reduced to 361. Meanwhile, Jembrana so far has got 2,020 aluminum voting booths while the need reaches 3,484 booths. The number of booths having arrived is 1,432 pieces so that it needs additional 32 rooms.

“For the ballot box, Denpasar so far has not received at all for the needs of 8,160 voting booths. Jembrana has received 4,370 boxes while the need reaches 4,415 boxes. Meanwhile, five of them are damaged, so it needs additional 50 boxes,” he added.

According to John, the most shortages of ballot boxes happen to Gianyar.

Of the 7,577 ballot boxes needed, so far it just received 4,000 boxes, so it still has shortage of 3,577 ballot boxes. Then, of the 6,000 needs of voting booth, 4,712 have been available or it still needs 1,288 additional voting booths. In the meantime, Buleleng has not received any ballot boxes and voting booth at all.

“Karangasem has received 8,608 ballot boxes in accordance with the official report, while the voting booths have not. Similarly, Klungkung has not received at all while it needs 610 voting booths. So far, it just received 3,139 ballot boxes as the need,” he explained.

John mentioned the shortage of logistics having been reported to the Bali Electoral Commission is then followed up by the Secretariat of Bali Electoral Commission to the Central Electoral Commission and the partners. (kmb32)

SEMARAPURA - HIV/AIDS cases in Klungkung district are increasingly alarming. This is indicated by the people getting the assistance tend to increase every year.

Revamped Sao Paulo Fashion Week highlights new format, new brands

SAO PAULO - Sao Paulo’s 46th Fashion Week, Latin America’s most important fashion show, is underway this week featuring a new venue, a new format, and the debut of four new labels.

This year ’s theme is titled “Tran[sp]posicion” (Modification).

Novelties included workshops, presentations and panel discussions.

Lilly Sarti, the fashion brand run by sisters Lilly and Renata Sarti, opened the event on Sunday at a runway in downtown Sao Paulo.

The Sarti sisters’ “Heritage” collection offered a view of a winter encompassed by color, but with few patterns. Oversized garments with fringed edges dominated the chilly opening night, while stripes and animal print mingled with earth tones, blues, burgundy, black and white in looks that emphasized a cinched-in silhouette.

Familiar names to the Brazilian fashion festival such as Oskllen and Reinaldo Lourenco made an appearance Monday and Tuesday at a warehouse in the city’s western

industrial part.

- Call for tolerance -

Just as in previous Sao Paulo Fashion Weeks, Brazilian designer Ronaldo Fraga stood out with a runway show that offered much more than just clothes and the latest trends. This time Fraga displayed a collection he said is a reflection on intolerance -- strongly influenced by the Israel-Palestine conflict he observed during a 2017 trip to Tel Aviv.

“We’re turning out to be an extremely intolerant society. Intolerant of differences and of minorities.

In this show, I wanted to talk about that,” Fraga told reporters.

At the end of the show, Fraga’s runway moved to center around a large banquet table with models and invited spectators sitting around it.

He once again presented a diverse line-up of models, reflecting the reality of the city of Sao Paulo.

The austere collection heavily featured blue embroidery work with minimal patterns.

TNBB develops Bali starling community-based ecotourism NEGARA - Since the end of 2017, the West Bali National Park (TNBB) has developed the Bali starling community-based ecotourism. Head of the TNBB, Agus Ngurah Krisna K, on the sidelines of a coordination meeting about the development of Bali starling community-based ecotourism with stakeholders in the office hall of the TNBB, Cekik, Gilimanuk office, on Tuesday (Oct. 23) said the ecotourism development would benefit the community.

The national park collaborates with three villages in developing Bali starling community-based ecotourism including the Gilimanuk, Sumberklampok and Blimbingsari.

According to him, each village put forwards its potential.

For example, Gilimanuk offers Gilimanuk Bay, mangrove tours, diving and coral reefs. Blimbingsari comes with the unique life of farmers, the process of making palm sugar, cacao plantation and the beauty of the village equipped with a Balinese style church. Meanwhile, Sumberklampok has the potential on the life of farmers and their mangrove forests.

Each village has the breeding of Bali starling organized by local community and this becomes a potential. Gilimanuk

has five pairs of Bali starling, Sumberklampok has 16 pairs and Blimbingsari has two pairs.

Previously, related to the development of the ecotourism, he said the supporting community groups had also been taken to make comparative study to Baluran Tourism Park so that such experience can be applied in their respective area in the ecotourism management.

Ngurah Krisna also hoped the biodiversity can increase tourism potential and tourist visits. “We also hope the development of ecotourism is able to create employment and business opportunities so that people in rural areas are getting more advanced with environmental and natural conservation,” he said. Cacete Company, which is set to display its designs on Friday, promises a collection inspired by the “subversive pornographic culture” of the 1990s.

Also on Friday, Piet will present “Montana,” a collection that takes its cues from sporty hiking and outdoors-wear looks.

And Bobstore plans to show off its Georgia O’Keefe-inspired collection Wednesday.

DENPASAR - Denpasar municipality continuously strives to reduce plastic waste in the City of Denpasar. All forms of regulations regarding the use of plastic bags continue to be finalized for the sake of public interest.

Mayor of Denpasar, I.B. Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra, stated the rules for reducing the use of plastic bags from the smallest environment namely households are still under process, so the positive and negative must be considered including the impact.

“It will be better when people bring their own bags when shopping. If it can be implemented together, it will certainly have a positive impact,” he said on Tuesday (Oct. 23).

He said that all rules regarding the reduction of plastic waste empty out into the aim of educating the public and increasing public participation. “Denpasar is also the center of the city having a dense enough urban population so the homework about this waste problem must be resolved together with creative ways,” he said.

Early education to school students, creative campaigns on reducing plastic waste to the use of plastic waste into economic objects have been carried out. This is also carried out to follow up the Presidential Regulation No. 97/2017 concerning national policies and strategies for household waste management and other household waste namely reducing waste by 30 percent in 2025.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Denpasar Environment and Sanitation Agency, I Ketut Wisada, revealed that one of the main things to overcome the waste problem is government policy. Afterwards, it must be supported by the cohesiveness and public awareness to maintain the environment.

“Hopefully, every government effort will be a good start, and all of them are periodic steps because in the future they will certainly continue to be developed, by embracing all levels of society to jointly succeed in every positive program for reducing plastic waste in Denpasar,” he affirmed. Tanah Lot e-billing program highlighted by parliament

TABANAN - The e-ticketing or e-billing program at Tanah Lot tourist attraction scheduled to be implemented in September apparently failed to materialize. As a result, it has got spotlight from the Tabanan House of Representatives. The innovation having been rolled out since 2015 should become a priority to increase regionally generated revenue (PAD) sources because it is believed to minimize ticket revenue leakage.

This was stated by Chairperson of Commission III of the Tabanan House of Representatives, I Wayan Lara, in a work meeting of the budgetary agency with the Transparency of Regional Budget Management (TPAD) of Tabanan on Monday (Oct. 22). This politician from Kerambitan sub-district assessed the breakthrough having been designed well enough seems stagnant and only limited to plans. He regretted this and considered there is a lack of seriousness to immediately realize the breakthrough. Moreover, the Tanah Lot attraction is one of the highest regional income earners.

The application of e-ticketing or e-billing is expected to reduce revenue leakages that might occur so far through the manual ticketing system. “It must change the mindset and do not only talk about plans and plans. According to him, the management is still waiting for the system and he stated to have not understood yet in detail about the application of the e-ticketing. “We have conducted a comparative study to Yogyakarta and made a review. We

will report the results of the study by the consultant team so that we can immediately move to follow up the machine,” he explained.

He said the machine to be provided for the application of the e-ticketing or e-billing system amounts to eight units and will be installed in two places, namely checker I and checker II or the entrance below and above. NEGARA - The ranks of Gilimanuk Marine Police together with the Fish Quarantine Center in Gilimanuk Area could secure hundreds of Brazilian turtles and dozens of dragon fish and black ghost fish on Wednesday (Oct. 24).

Such hundreds of turtles and fish were secured and confiscated because they are not equipped with any documents. The smuggling of animals and illegal fish from Java to Bali consists of 689 Brazilian turtles and 35 dragon fish and 25 black ghost fish without being equipped with any documents.

Venezuelan exiles turn to prostitution to feed families

CALAMAR - Back in Venezuela, they were teachers, police officers and newspaper carriers, but were forced to flee their homeland in search of work and money to survive.

But the women, without identity papers, ended up working as prostitutes in sordid bars in Colombia, saving all they can to provide for their families back home, still in the throes of economic crisis.

Mother-of-three Patricia, 30, was beaten, raped and sodomized by a drunken client -- but she keeps on working in a brothel in Calamar, in the center of the country.

“There are customers who treat you badly and that is horrible,” she says. “”Every day, I pray to God that they are good (to us).”

Alegria is a teacher of history and geography but in a Venezuela gripped by chronic hyperinflation, she was earning just 312,000 bolivars a month: less than a dollar.

Her salary was not enough “even for a packet of pasta,” the 26-yearold mother of a four-year-old boy told AFP. In February, she crossed the border into Colombia.

She initially worked for three months as a waitress in the east, a job which offered room and board, but Alegria was never paid, getting by on tips.

“I sent my tips home to my family,” she said. Six people, including her son, were relying on her.

Eventually, even those were confiscated, so Alegria made her way south to Calamar, which is located in an area scarred by decades of armed conflict.

The region is a hub for drug-trafficking, and a bastion of dissident

former FARC guerrillas.

With nine other women, Alegria -- a pseudonym she gave AFP for this story that means ‘happiness’ -- prostitutes herself every night in a bar in the town of 3,000 people.

Each client pays between 37,000-50,000 pesos ($11-16), of which 7,000 is kept by the establishment’s manager. On a “good night,” Alegria can earn the equivalent of between $30 and $100.

- ‘Because of the crisis’ “We never intended on prostituting ourselves. We’re doing it because of the crisis,” says Joli, her voice cracking.

This 35-year-old lost her job as a newspaper carrier in 2016 because “there was no more paper to print them.”

After four years of recession and years of financial mismanagement, Venezuela’s crisis has seen poverty soar as basic necessities such as food and medicine became scarce.

Inflation is set to hit a staggering 1.4 million percent this year, according to the International Monetary Fund, which says 2019 will see that figure reach an astronomical 10 million percent.

Joli left her three children with her mother before trekking from town to town and job to job looking to make ends meet.

In June, her 19-year-old niece, Milagro, joined her at the brothel.

“At first I felt terrible,” said the teenager.

But she stuck to it, trying to help her sick mother, her brothers and a two-year-old child. Her mother has since died. Beside the financial hardships and obvious unpleasantness of the work, many women

struggle with hiding the truth from their families.

“They don’t know what I do, even my mother,” admits Alegria.

“It would be too difficult for her after sacrificing five years of her life to pay for my studies.”

She dreams of teaching in Colombia but without a passport, it’s impossible. She tells her loved ones she works in a bakery but, sick of lying, she finally confessed the truth of an emergency team of medics from Doctors of the World (MDM) in Calamar. (afp)

ZOMEA KAKA - In a remote southwestern pocket of the Central African Republic, doctor Patrick Karume and his small team are on the jungle frontline to quarantine a rare outbreak of monkeypox.

From a makeshift base in Zomea Kaka village, they trek 30 kilometres (18 miles) across muddy tracks to Bagandou, where a dozen children appear to have developed rashes characteristic of the virus which in rare cases can be fatal.

Monkeypox virus, first identified in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1970, has symptoms similar to human smallpox, if less severe. In May, the virus became a “public health threat”, accord-

ing to local CAR authorities. It was the latest outbreak detected in CAR since 2013, according to World Health Organisation advisor Augustin Diebert.

Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) dispatched an emergency team to set up in Zomea Kaka after three cases of the virus were identified.

Already they have quarantined nine people, most of them children.

“Monkeypox may be endemic to this area,” Karume said, pulling off muddied boots after another trek out of their MSF base.

Before entering the “red zone” quarantine area cordoned off with a fence, everyone dons the required gear - rubber boots, disposable

overalls, masks and goggles.

Nearby a few metres away, their patients sit on benches eating breakfast. Some show traces of the virus on their faces. For some, crusts have discoloured parts of their skin.

Peeling is a sign of healing.

“It’s a self-limiting virus, we just treat the symptoms and administer antibiotics and prevent infections,” Karume said.

“We used to think it was transmitted by monkeys, but it is more by rodents. Secondary transmission is through an infected person.”

“If nothing is done it can lead to complications,” he said, adding that one patient lost an eye because of an edema. (afp)

Khan, who was elected earlier this year, inherited an economy in shambles, with foreign exchange reserves barely sufficient to cover a month’s worth of the country’s import bills.

Local news organizations quoted Khan as saying that Pakistan could not afford to boycott the conference, although he did denounce the

From the observation, every Kuningan Day, about tens of millions of rupiahs are dedicated by the citizens of Bongan Gede hamlet for the mesuryak tradition.

Chief of Bongan Gede customary village, I Nyoman Parwata, said the tradition of mesuryak is passed down through generations at his hamlet.

“Mesuryak aims to deliver the ancestral spirits back to heaven after coming down and participate in the celebration of Galungan with their descendants.

After ten days, precisely on Kuningan feast, we accompany our ancestors back to heaven. We escort them with happiness while cheering (mesuryak) and throwing money into the air. Then, it is scrambled by many people,” he said.

The amount of money used in the mesuryak varies depending on the economic capacity of the citizens. This tradition has existed for generations and remains to be organized every six months (210 days) coinciding with Kuningan Day. (kmb)

Hyundai Motor reported a 67 percent plunge in third-quarter net profit from the previous year after overseas sales slowed and currency swings hurt its bottom line in emerging markets.

Net profit for July to September was 306 billion won ($268.8 million), while operating profit plummeted 76 percent year-on-year to 288.9 billion won, the firm said in a statement.

“The third quarter was a difficult time due to slowing demand in major markets including the US and concerns over a global trade dispute,” said Hyundai, which together with its subsidiary Kia is the world’s fifth-largest automaker.

Lake Gazivode, troubled waters between Kosovo and Serbia water offer another reminder of why altering the borders would be anything but simple.

Three-quarters of the lake lie in Kosovo’s ethnic Serb-dominated north -- a region where Belgrade has maintained a strong influence and would naturally demand if a land swap was on the table.

But for Kosovo to give up Gazivode, a manmade lake created by a dam on the Ibar river, would threaten the drinking water supply of more than a third of its 1.8 million population.

The lake also supplies crucial cooling water for the two coal plants -- Kosovo A and Kosovo B -- that produce around 95 percent of Kosovo’s electricity.

“Without Gazivode, Kosovo would be without electricity,” said Srdjan Vulovic, head of the Belgradefounded company Ibar which manages the lake.

Yet he maintains that “the right to manage Gazivode belongs to Serbia”, saying it was Belgrade who repaid the $90 million (78 million-euro) loan to build the dam under the former Yugoslavia in the 1970s.

The lake became a stage for diplomatic theatre in September, after

planned talks between the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo fell apart at the last minute in Brussels, where the EU is moderating their negotiations.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic pushed ahead with a controversial visit to Lake Gazivode, despite opposition from Pristina’s leaders, who eventually relented.

“There was pressure from the European Union ... we had no choice,” Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli said.

Standing near the dam that workers had decorated with a Serbian flag, Vucic described the lake as a symbol of the stalemate.

“Gazivode shows in the clearest way the extent of the problem we face, our differences, our bitter political struggles,” he said.

Three weeks later, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci countered with a photo shoot on a boat in the lake, which is known in Albanian as Ujman. “A normal visit to one of our beauties,” Thaci said at the time.

Kosovo’s chief negotiator with Serbia, Avni Arifi, has warned it would be “inappropriate” to “launch any debate about the lake” in future EU-led talks.

Sakharov prize awarded to jailed Ukrainian filmmaker Sentsov

STRASBOURG - The European Parliament on Thursday awarded the prestigious Sakharov human rights prize to jailed Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, Russia’s most famous prisoner, the assembly’s political groups said.

Sentsov was among three finalists for the prize, along with a group of 11 charities rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean and Nasser Zefzafi, head of a Moroccan protest movement who has been in jail since May 2017.

Sentsov was awarded the 50,000 euro ($58,000) prize for an “exceptional contribution” to human rights around the world, the centre-right EPP and the liberal ALDE groups in parliament said.

Sentsov, a vocal critic of the Kremlin, is serving a 20-year term over an alleged arson plot in Crimea, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

The 42-year-old is being held in a Russian penal colony above the arctic circle.

He started a hunger strike on May 14 demanding the release of all Ukrainian prisoners in Russia, and his deteriorating health provoked an outcry from the international community.

Indonesia invites ASEAN and dialog partners to join Indonesiana platform

PRISTINA - Controlled by Serbs but a key resource for Kosovo, the cool blue waters of Lake Gazivode reflect the chilly relationship between the former war foes over their contested border.

The 24-kilometre (15-mile) reservoir straddles the frontier separating Serbia and Kosovo, still locked in a diplomatic dispute 20 years after an ethnic rebellion split them apart.

Kosovo was a southern province of Serbia that broke away during a 1998-99 insurgency led by its ethnic Albanian majority. A NATO intervention stopped the war and put Kosovo under UN administration until it unilaterally declared independence in 2008 -- a move Belgrade has refused to recognise.

But now the two territories are under pressure to normalise relations in order to move forward in EU accession talks. Resolving the border issue is key to any agreement.

The proposal of a “land swap” as a way to break the deadlock gained traction in August after officials on both sides gave a nod to the possibility.

Local media speculated that an ethnic-Albanian slice of Serbia could be traded for a Serb-dominated region of northern Kosovo, home to Lake Gazivode.

Rights groups swiftly sounded the alarm over a proposal that would redraw the map along ethnic lines, recalling the bloodshed of the brutal break-up of Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

“Indonesia has specifically proposed that other ASEAN member states and dialog partners, namely China, Japan and South Korea to participate in Indonesiana platform,” Director General of Culture at the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture Hilmar Farid said on the sidelines of the 8th meeting of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts (AMCA) in Yogyakarta on Wednesday.

Indonesiana platform is the initiative of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture to strengthen cultural ecosystem, he said.

“Indonesia has taken advantage of the dialog to introduce the concept and invite them to join it and some of them have given positive responses to it. We hope that there will be cooperation with the other ASEAN member states and three dialog partners to implement it in 2019,” he said.

Indonesia has been appointed to chair ASEAN ministerial meeting and senior officials meeting in the cultural and art fields in the the next two years.

Since early this year, the Indonesian government has carried out a number of activities related to Indonesiana platform in 26 districts and municipalities. One of the activities was International Gamelan Festival in Solo, Central Java.

He said if the ministry has had a list of cultural activities in 2019, it could offer it to the other ASEAN member states and three dialog partners to support the activities under the Indonesiana platform.

“By doing so, we hope that cultural exchange will increasingly become stronger through this platform,” he said. (ant)

Indonesian woman gives birth on Etihad flight

An Indonesian woman gave birth on an Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi to Jakarta that had to be diverted to Mumbai Wednesday, Indian officials said.

Flight EY 474 left the emirate for Indonesia’s capital in the early hours of Wednesday but was diverted to India’s commercial hub after the woman went into labour, a Mumbai airport spokesperson told AFP. “The passenger delivered a female child about 40 minutes before landing” in Mumbai, the spokesperson said.

The woman, described by the spokesperson as being of Indonesian origin, was taken to a nearby hospital and the flight departed Mumbai around 09:40 a.m. (0410 GMT) to complete its journey to Jakarta.

Last year an Indian women gave birth on a Jet Airways flight from Damman in Saudi Arabia to Kochi in the southern Indian state of Kerala. The flight was also diverted to Mumbai.

Jet Airways said it was the first time a baby had been born on one of its flights and that it had given the boy free travel for life on the airline. (afp)

Government provides Rp14.31 trillion in village funds for frontier areas

JAKARTA- The government has distributed Rp14.31 trillion in village funds for outer and frontier areas, the Village and Backward Area Development and Transmigration Ministry has said.

“This is a government`s commitment to lifting people in frontier areas from backwardness and poverty,” Village and Backward Area Development and Transmigration Minister Eko Putro Sanjoyo said here on Thursday.

For the first time the government has brought a touch of modernity to border areas mainly in Kalimantan and Papua.

Currently , there are 41 district areas included in the category of frontier and outer regions or almost 10 percent of the country`s 434 district areas.

Village funds had been used in the 41 frontier district areas to build 9,510,202 meters of village access roads, 130,596 meters of bridges, 1,066 units of boat terminals, 1,445 Village Companies (BUMDes), 610 units of village market cen-

ters,680 units of retention basins, 1,289 units of sports facilities and irrigation projects.

Village funds have also been used to build 1,797 units of integrated public service centers (Posyandu), 1,003,041 meters of drainage system, 9,076 units public bath, and toilet facility (MCK),1,925 units Young Age Child Education (PAUD) facility, 18,140 units clean water supply facility, 4,792 units of embankment, 4,689 units of well, and 570 units of village maternity centers (Polindes).

“Almost all villages already have complete infrastructure. Therefore, village funds begin to be used for human resource development and economic sector,” the Minister said. He said the motive behind the village funds is to create equitable development and welfare .

Around 20 percent of village funds are set aside for villages in the backward and poor category and the remaining 80 percent were split between all villages, he said.

Poor and backward villages, therefore, have larger share of rural funds allowing them to catch up with other villages, he said. Under the previous distribution system of rural funds most villages were left uncovered by the program, he said.

“During the first years of the Government of President Joko Widodo, Rp187 trillion of state budget have been set aside for village funds,” the minister said.

He said he hoped the fund could be used properly for modernization of facilities and infrastructure in rural areas to lift the rural community from poverty and backwardness. (ant)

The flying Spaniard stormed to victory in a pulsating race at Japan last weekend to secure his third straight world championship in the sport’s premier class, and fifth overall.

With another title in the bag and three races of the season left, it would be easy for the Honda hotshot to relax -- a failure of his in the past.

But he is determined to keep his focus and not repeat previous mistakes in Australia after the euphoria of winning world crowns in Japan in 2014 and 2016.

“The tactic is to concentrate,” Marquez, still only 25 and super consistent this season, said on Thursday.

“I won (the world championship) in 2014 in Motegi and arrived here and I felt like I could do anything, and I crashed,” he said.

“In 2016, I started to feel different (more mature), but I still crashed in the race and it’s something I need to concentrate on this weekend.

“I plan to approach the race in the way I will approach the 2019 season and be focused.”

While the championship has been decided, there is still plenty to race for in Australia and at the final two grands prix in Malaysia and Spain.

Marquez’s key rival, Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso who crashed on the penultimate lap at Motegi to end any slim chance of keeping the championships alive, has historically struggled in Australia.

Curry explodes for 51 points against the Wizards OAKLAND - Stephen Curry had 11 three pointers en route to a 51-point performance as the Golden State Warriors throttled the Washington Wizards 144-122 on Wednesday.

The two-time NBA MVP Curry moved into fifth on the league’s all-time three point scoring list and heard chants of “MVP, MVP” from the Warriors’ faithful.

KIGALI — Facing scrutiny over links to Saudi Arabia, FIFA says new competitions that will bring in $25 billion will not be funded directly by any nation, according to documents seen by The Associated Press.

FIFA Council members received the funding commitment in briefing notes sent ahead of a meeting Friday in Kigali, where President Gianni Infantino will seek their support for new tournaments. The documents were shared with the AP on condition of anonymity because they were meant to be kept private.

“FIFA would not enter into a joint venture for this purpose, whether directly or indirectly, with sovereign wealth funds of individual states,” the documents state. The documents do not say anything about investment from private entities linked to nation states.

Japanese conglomerate SoftBank Group Corp., which is part of the group seeking a joint venture with FIFA to sell the rights to the new competitions, has received $45 billion from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund for technology investments.

Infantino’s meetings with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia in the last year raised questions about the kingdom’s involvement in the overhaul of international soccer competitions for national teams and clubs. (ap)

Curry explodes for 51 points against the Wizards OAKLAND - Stephen Curry had 11 three pointers en route to a 51-point performance as the Golden State Warriors throttled the Washington Wizards 144-122 on Wednesday.

The two-time NBA MVP Curry moved into fifth on the league’s all-time three point scoring list and heard chants of “MVP, MVP” from the Warriors’ faithful.

Lake Gazivode, troubled waters between Kosovo and Serbia water offer another reminder of why altering the borders would be anything but simple.

Three-quarters of the lake lie in Kosovo’s ethnic Serb-dominated north -- a region where Belgrade has maintained a strong influence and would naturally demand if a land swap was on the table.

But for Kosovo to give up Gazivode, a manmade lake created by a dam on the Ibar river, would threaten the drinking water supply of more than a third of its 1.8 million population.

The lake also supplies crucial cooling water for the two coal plants -- Kosovo A and Kosovo B -- that produce around 95 percent of Kosovo’s electricity.

“Without Gazivode, Kosovo would be without electricity,” said Srdjan Vulovic, head of the Belgradefounded company Ibar which manages the lake.

Yet he maintains that “the right to manage Gazivode belongs to Serbia”, saying it was Belgrade who repaid the $90 million (78 million-euro) loan to build the dam under the former Yugoslavia in the 1970s.

The lake became a stage for diplomatic theatre in September, after

planned talks between the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo fell apart at the last minute in Brussels, where the EU is moderating their negotiations.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic pushed ahead with a controversial visit to Lake Gazivode, despite opposition from Pristina’s leaders, who eventually relented.

“There was pressure from the European Union ... we had no choice,” Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli said.

Standing near the dam that workers had decorated with a Serbian flag, Vucic described the lake as a symbol of the stalemate.

“Gazivode shows in the clearest way the extent of the problem we face, our differences, our bitter political struggles,” he said.

Three weeks later, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci countered with a photo shoot on a boat in the lake, which is known in Albanian as Ujman. “A normal visit to one of our beauties,” Thaci said at the time.

Kosovo’s chief negotiator with Serbia, Avni Arifi, has warned it would be “inappropriate” to “launch any debate about the lake” in future EU-led talks.

“It is a Kosovo resource... and we are not talking about our resources with Serbia,” he told AFP. (afp)

Sakharov prize awarded to jailed Ukrainian filmmaker Sentsov

STRASBOURG - The European Parliament on Thursday awarded the prestigious Sakharov human rights prize to jailed Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, Russia’s most famous prisoner, the assembly’s political groups said.

Sentsov was among three finalists for the prize, along with a group of 11 charities rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean and Nasser Zefzafi, head of a Moroccan protest movement who has been in jail since May 2017.

Sentsov was awarded the 50,000 euro ($58,000) prize for an “exceptional contribution” to human rights around the world, the centre-right EPP and the liberal ALDE groups in parliament said.

Sentsov, a vocal critic of the Kremlin, is serving a 20-year term over an alleged arson plot in Crimea, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

The 42-year-old is being held in a Russian penal colony above the arctic circle.

He started a hunger strike on May 14 demanding the release of all Ukrainian prisoners in Russia, and his deteriorating health provoked an outcry from the international community.

Indonesia invites ASEAN and dialog partners to join Indonesiana platform

PRISTINA - Controlled by Serbs but a key resource for Kosovo, the cool blue waters of Lake Gazivode reflect the chilly relationship between the former war foes over their contested border.

The 24-kilometre (15-mile) reservoir straddles the frontier separating Serbia and Kosovo, still locked in a diplomatic dispute 20 years after an ethnic rebellion split them apart.

Kosovo was a southern province of Serbia that broke away during a 1998-99 insurgency led by its ethnic Albanian majority. A NATO intervention stopped the war and put Kosovo under UN administration until it unilaterally declared independence in 2008 -- a move Belgrade has refused to recognise.

But now the two territories are under pressure to normalise relations in order to move forward in EU accession talks. Resolving the border issue is key to any agreement.

The proposal of a “land swap” as a way to break the deadlock gained traction in August after officials on both sides gave a nod to the possibility.

Local media speculated that an ethnic-Albanian slice of Serbia could be traded for a Serb-dominated region of northern Kosovo, home to Lake Gazivode.

Rights groups swiftly sounded the alarm over a proposal that would redraw the map along ethnic lines, recalling the bloodshed of the brutal break-up of Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

“Indonesia has specifically proposed that other ASEAN member states and dialog partners, namely China, Japan and South Korea to participate in Indonesiana platform,” Director General of Culture at the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture Hilmar Farid said on the sidelines of the 8th meeting of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts (AMCA) in Yogyakarta on Wednesday.

Indonesiana platform is the initiative of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture to strengthen cultural ecosystem, he said.

“Indonesia has taken advantage of the dialog to introduce the concept and invite them to join it and some of them have given positive responses to it. We hope that there will be cooperation with the other ASEAN member states and three dialog partners to implement it in 2019,” he said.

Indonesia has been appointed to chair ASEAN ministerial meeting and senior officials meeting in the cultural and art fields in the the next two years.

Since early this year, the Indonesian government has carried out a number of activities related to Indonesiana platform in 26 districts and municipalities. One of the activities was International Gamelan Festival in Solo, Central Java.

He said if the ministry has had a list of cultural activities in 2019, it could offer it to the other ASEAN member states and three dialog partners to support the activities under the Indonesiana platform.

“By doing so, we hope that cultural exchange will increasingly become stronger through this platform,” he said. (ant)

Indonesian woman gives birth on Etihad flight

An Indonesian woman gave birth on an Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi to Jakarta that had to be diverted to Mumbai Wednesday, Indian officials said.

Flight EY 474 left the emirate for Indonesia’s capital in the early hours of Wednesday but was diverted to India’s commercial hub after the woman went into labour, a Mumbai airport spokesperson told AFP. “The passenger delivered a female child about 40 minutes before landing” in Mumbai, the spokesperson said.

The woman, described by the spokesperson as being of Indonesian origin, was taken to a nearby hospital and the flight departed Mumbai around 09:40 a.m. (0410 GMT) to complete its journey to Jakarta.

Last year an Indian women gave birth on a Jet Airways flight from Damman in Saudi Arabia to Kochi in the southern Indian state of Kerala. The flight was also diverted to Mumbai.

Jet Airways said it was the first time a baby had been born on one of its flights and that it had given the boy free travel for life on the airline. (afp)

Government provides Rp14.31 trillion in village funds for frontier areas

JAKARTA- The government has distributed Rp14.31 trillion in village funds for outer and frontier areas, the Village and Backward Area Development and Transmigration Ministry has said.

“This is a government`s commitment to lifting people in frontier areas from backwardness and poverty,” Village and Backward Area Development and Transmigration Minister Eko Putro Sanjoyo said here on Thursday.

For the first time the government has brought a touch of modernity to border areas mainly in Kalimantan and Papua.

Currently , there are 41 district areas included in the category of frontier and outer regions or almost 10 percent of the country`s 434 district areas.

Village funds had been used in the 41 frontier district areas to build 9,510,202 meters of village access roads, 130,596 meters of bridges, 1,066 units of boat terminals, 1,445 Village Companies (BUMDes), 610 units of village market cen-

ters,680 units of retention basins, 1,289 units of sports facilities and irrigation projects.

Village funds have also been used to build 1,797 units of integrated public service centers (Posyandu), 1,003,041 meters of drainage system, 9,076 units public bath, and toilet facility (MCK),1,925 units Young Age Child Education (PAUD) facility, 18,140 units clean water supply facility, 4,792 units of embankment, 4,689 units of well, and 570 units of village maternity centers (Polindes).

“Almost all villages already have complete infrastructure. Therefore, village funds begin to be used for human resource development and economic sector,” the Minister said. He said the motive behind the village funds is to create equitable development and welfare .

Around 20 percent of village funds are set aside for villages in the backward and poor category and the remaining 80 percent were split between all villages, he said.

Poor and backward villages, therefore, have larger share of rural funds allowing them to catch up with other villages, he said. Under the previous distribution system of rural funds most villages were left uncovered by the program, he said.

“During the first years of the Government of President Joko Widodo, Rp187 trillion of state budget have been set aside for village funds,” the minister said.

He said he hoped the fund could be used properly for modernization of facilities and infrastructure in rural areas to lift the rural community from poverty and backwardness. (ant)

The money was thrown into the air and then grabbed by residents. Girls and boys scrambled for the money. From the observation, every Kuningan Day, about tens of millions of rupiahs are dedicated by the citizens of Bongan Gede hamlet for the mesuryak tradition.

Chief of Bongan Gede customary village, I Nyoman Parwata, said the tradition of mesuryak is passed down through generations at his hamlet.

“Mesuryak aims to deliver the ancestral spirits back to heaven after coming down and participate in the celebration of Galungan with their descendants.

After ten days, precisely on Kuningan feast, we accompany our ancestors back to heaven. We escort them with happiness while cheering (mesuryak) and throwing money into the air. Then, it is scrambled by many people,” he said.

The amount of money used in the mesuryak varies depending on the economic capacity of the citizens. This tradition has existed for generations and remains to be organized every six months (210 days) coinciding with Kuningan Day. (kmb)

Hyundai Motor reported a 67 percent plunge in third-quarter net profit from the previous year after overseas sales slowed and currency swings hurt its bottom line in emerging markets.

Net profit for July to September was 306 billion won ($268.8 million), while operating profit plummeted 76 percent year-on-year to 288.9 billion won, the firm said in a statement.

“The third quarter was a difficult time due to slowing demand in major markets including the US and concerns over a global trade dispute,” said Hyundai, which together with its subsidiary Kia is the world’s fifth-largest automaker.

TABANAN - The e-ticketing or e-billing program at Tanah Lot tourist attraction scheduled to be implemented in September apparently failed to materialize. NEGARA - The ranks of Gilimanuk Marine Police together with the Fish Quarantine Center in Gilimanuk Area could secure hundreds of Brazilian turtles and dozens of dragon fish and black ghost fish on Wednesday (Oct. 24).

Such hundreds of turtles and fish were secured and confiscated because they are not equipped with any documents. The smuggling of animals and illegal fish from Java to Bali consists of 689 Brazilian turtles and 35 dragon fish and 25 black ghost fish without being equipped with any documents.

smuggled into Bali from Surabaya by using a yellow box truck of Olivia Expedition with license plate of DK 9469 AQ, driven by Imam Nawawi, 40, from Banyuwangi, East Java.

Chief of Gilimanuk Marine Police, I Nyoman Subawa, accompanied by Chief of Criminal Investigation Unit, Komang Muliyadi, stated the smuggling was successfully thwarted due to synergy with Quarantine Office that has jointly inspected the vehicle boxes. After being inspected, in fact there are animal or fish commodities that should be equipped with letters from the Quarantine Office.

Since the delivery was not

equipped with any documents, finally hundreds of the Brazilian turtles and dragon fish and black ghost were secured and handed over to the Fish Quarantine Center of Gilimanuk work area for quarantine actions.

Venezuelan exiles turn to prostitution to feed families

CALAMAR - Back in Venezuela, they were teachers, police officers and newspaper carriers, but were forced to flee their homeland in search of work and money to survive.

But the women, without identity papers, ended up working as prostitutes in sordid bars in Colombia, saving all they can to provide for their families back home, still in the throes of economic crisis.

Mother-of-three Patricia, 30, was beaten, raped and sodomized by a drunken client -- but she keeps on working in a brothel in Calamar, in the center of the country.

“There are customers who treat you badly and that is horrible,” she says. “”Every day, I pray to God that they are good (to us).”

Alegria is a teacher of history and geography but in a Venezuela gripped by chronic hyperinflation, she was earning just 312,000 bolivars a month: less than a dollar.

Her salary was not enough “even for a packet of pasta,” the 26-yearold mother of a four-year-old boy told AFP. In February, she crossed the border into Colombia.

She initially worked for three months as a waitress in the east, a job which offered room and board, but Alegria was never paid, getting by on tips.

“I sent my tips home to my family,” she said. Six people, including her son, were relying on her.

Eventually, even those were confiscated, so Alegria made her way south to Calamar, which is located in an area scarred by decades of armed conflict.

The region is a hub for drug-trafficking, and a bastion of dissident

former FARC guerrillas.

With nine other women, Alegria -- a pseudonym she gave AFP for this story that means ‘happiness’ -- prostitutes herself every night in a bar in the town of 3,000 people.

Each client pays between 37,000-50,000 pesos ($11-16), of which 7,000 is kept by the establishment’s manager. On a “good night,” Alegria can earn the equivalent of between $30 and $100.

- ‘Because of the crisis’ “We never intended on prostituting ourselves. We’re doing it because of the crisis,” says Joli, her voice cracking.

This 35-year-old lost her job as a newspaper carrier in 2016 because “there was no more paper to print them.”

After four years of recession and years of financial mismanagement, Venezuela’s crisis has seen poverty soar as basic necessities such as food and medicine became scarce.

Inflation is set to hit a staggering 1.4 million percent this year, according to the International Monetary Fund, which says 2019 will see that figure reach an astronomical 10 million percent.

Joli left her three children with her mother before trekking from town to town and job to job looking to make ends meet.

In June, her 19-year-old niece, Milagro, joined her at the brothel.

But she stuck to it, trying to help her sick mother, her brothers and a two-year-old child. Her mother has since died. Beside the financial hardships and obvious unpleasantness of the work, many women

struggle with hiding the truth from their families.

“They don’t know what I do, even my mother,” admits Alegria.

“It would be too difficult for her after sacrificing five years of her life to pay for my studies.”

She dreams of teaching in Colombia but without a passport, it’s impossible. She tells her loved ones she works in a bakery but, sick of lying, she finally confessed the truth of an emergency team of medics from Doctors of the World (MDM) in Calamar. (afp)

ZOMEA KAKA - In a remote southwestern pocket of the Central African Republic, doctor Patrick Karume and his small team are on the jungle frontline to quarantine a rare outbreak of monkeypox.

From a makeshift base in Zomea Kaka village, they trek 30 kilometres (18 miles) across muddy tracks to Bagandou, where a dozen children appear to have developed rashes characteristic of the virus which in rare cases can be fatal.

Monkeypox virus, first identified in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1970, has symptoms similar to human smallpox, if less severe. In May, the virus became a “public health threat”, accord-

ing to local CAR authorities. It was the latest outbreak detected in CAR since 2013, according to World Health Organisation advisor Augustin Diebert.

Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) dispatched an emergency team to set up in Zomea Kaka after three cases of the virus were identified.

Already they have quarantined nine people, most of them children.

“Monkeypox may be endemic to this area,” Karume said, pulling off muddied boots after another trek out of their MSF base.

Before entering the “red zone” quarantine area cordoned off with a fence, everyone dons the required gear - rubber boots, disposable

overalls, masks and goggles.

Nearby a few metres away, their patients sit on benches eating breakfast. Some show traces of the virus on their faces. For some, crusts have discoloured parts of their skin.

Peeling is a sign of healing.

“It’s a self-limiting virus, we just treat the symptoms and administer antibiotics and prevent infections,” Karume said.

“We used to think it was transmitted by monkeys, but it is more by rodents. Secondary transmission is through an infected person.”

“If nothing is done it can lead to complications,” he said, adding that one patient lost an eye because of an edema. (afp)

Revamped Sao Paulo Fashion Week highlights new format, new brands

SAO PAULO - Sao Paulo’s 46th Fashion Week, Latin America’s most important fashion show, is underway this week featuring a new venue, a new format, and the debut of four new labels.

This year ’s theme is titled “Tran[sp]posicion” (Modification).

Novelties included workshops, presentations and panel discussions.

Lilly Sarti, the fashion brand run by sisters Lilly and Renata Sarti, opened the event on Sunday at a runway in downtown Sao Paulo.

The Sarti sisters’ “Heritage” collection offered a view of a winter encompassed by color, but with few patterns. Oversized garments with fringed edges dominated the chilly opening night, while stripes and animal print mingled with earth tones, blues, burgundy, black and white in looks that emphasized a cinched-in silhouette.

Familiar names to the Brazilian fashion festival such as Oskllen and Reinaldo Lourenco made an appearance Monday and Tuesday at a warehouse in the city’s western

industrial part.

- Call for tolerance -

Just as in previous Sao Paulo Fashion Weeks, Brazilian designer Ronaldo Fraga stood out with a runway show that offered much more than just clothes and the latest trends. This time Fraga displayed a collection he said is a reflection on intolerance -- strongly influenced by the Israel-Palestine conflict he observed during a 2017 trip to Tel Aviv.

“We’re turning out to be an extremely intolerant society. Intolerant of differences and of minorities.

In this show, I wanted to talk about that,” Fraga told reporters.

At the end of the show, Fraga’s runway moved to center around a large banquet table with models and invited spectators sitting around it.

He once again presented a diverse line-up of models, reflecting the reality of the city of Sao Paulo.

The austere collection heavily featured blue embroidery work with minimal patterns.

TNBB develops Bali starling community-based ecotourism NEGARA - Since the end of 2017, the West Bali National Park (TNBB) has developed the Bali starling community-based ecotourism. Head of the TNBB, Agus Ngurah Krisna K, on the sidelines of a coordination meeting about the development of Bali starling community-based ecotourism with stakeholders in the office hall of the TNBB, Cekik, Gilimanuk office, on Tuesday (Oct. 23) said the ecotourism development would benefit the community.

The national park collaborates with three villages in developing Bali starling community-based ecotourism including the Gilimanuk, Sumberklampok and Blimbingsari.

According to him, each village put forwards its potential.

For example, Gilimanuk offers Gilimanuk Bay, mangrove tours, diving and coral reefs. Blimbingsari comes with the unique life of farmers, the process of making palm sugar, cacao plantation and the beauty of the village equipped with a Balinese style church. Meanwhile, Sumberklampok has the potential on the life of farmers and their mangrove forests.

Each village has the breeding of Bali starling organized by local community and this becomes a potential. Gilimanuk

has five pairs of Bali starling, Sumberklampok has 16 pairs and Blimbingsari has two pairs.

Previously, related to the development of the ecotourism, he said the supporting community groups had also been taken to make comparative study to Baluran Tourism Park so that such experience can be applied in their respective area in the ecotourism management.

Ngurah Krisna also hoped the biodiversity can increase tourism potential and tourist visits. “We also hope the development of ecotourism is able to create employment and business opportunities so that people in rural areas are getting more advanced with environmental and natural conservation,” he said. DENPASAR - Denpasar municipality continuously strives to reduce plastic waste in the City of Denpasar. All forms of regulations regarding the use of plastic bags continue to be finalized for the sake of public interest.

Mayor of Denpasar, I.B. Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra, stated the rules for reducing the use of plastic bags from the smallest environment namely households are still under process, so the positive and negative must be considered including the impact.

“It will be better when people bring their own bags when shopping. If it can be implemented together, it will certainly have a positive impact,” he said on Tuesday (Oct. 23).

He said that all rules regarding the reduction of plastic waste empty out into the aim of educating the public and increasing public participation. “Denpasar is also the center of the city having a dense enough urban population so the homework about this waste problem must be resolved together with creative ways,” he said.

Early education to school students, creative campaigns on reducing plastic waste to the use of plastic waste into economic objects have been carried out. This is also carried out to follow up the Presidential Regulation No. 97/2017 concerning national policies and strategies for household waste management and other household waste namely reducing waste by 30 percent in 2025.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Denpasar Environment and Sanitation Agency, I Ketut Wisada, revealed that one of the main things to overcome the waste problem is government policy. Afterwards, it must be supported by the cohesiveness and public awareness to maintain the environment.

“Hopefully, every government effort will be a good start, and all of them are periodic steps because in the future they will certainly continue to be developed, by embracing all levels of society to jointly succeed in every positive program for reducing plastic waste in Denpasar,” he affirmed. 2019 election logistics starts to arrive

DENPASAR - Logistics of the Election 2019 such as ballot boxes and cardboard voting booths have begun to arrive at district / municipal Electoral Commission (KPU) in Bali. Until Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 24), it was already received by Badung Electoral Commission, while the logistics of other districts / municipality remains incomplete.

“Related to the arrival of the logistics, some have indeed been in accordance with the needs while some others have not. For the districts/municipality having not received complete items, the shortcomings have been reported to Bali Electoral Commission,” said Commissioner of KPU Bali, I Gede John Darmawan, when asked for his confirmation on Wednesday (Oct. 24).

Bali Electoral Commission recorded, continued John, that Badung has received complete logistics in the form of 6,866 cardboard ballot boxes and 1,515 cardboard voting booths. Tabanan still lacks 65 ballot boxes from the total needs of 7,875 boxes and 16 voting booths from the needs of 2,682 voting booths. Bangli still lacks 5 ballot boxes from the needs of 4,264 boxes, while the voting booth has been fulfilled.

“Bangli needs 3,372 for voting booths, while the received ones amount to 933 booths. In the meantime, there have been 2,439 aluminum booths, so that the booth has been fulfilled as needed,” he explained.

John added the aluminum booths also cover the deficiency of cardboard box delivery in Denpasar and Jembrana. In Denpasar, the demand for booths reached 6,528 pieces. However, so far it just received 320 cardboard boxes.

Since there have been 5,847 voting booths, the shortage of booths can be reduced to 361. Meanwhile, Jembrana so far has got 2,020 aluminum voting booths while the need reaches 3,484 booths. The number of booths having arrived is 1,432 pieces so that it needs additional 32 rooms.

“For the ballot box, Denpasar so far has not received at all for the needs of 8,160 voting booths. Jembrana has received 4,370 boxes while the need reaches 4,415 boxes. Meanwhile, five of them are damaged, so it needs additional 50 boxes,” he added.

According to John, the most shortages of ballot boxes happen to Gianyar.

Of the 7,577 ballot boxes needed, so far it just received 4,000 boxes, so it still has shortage of 3,577 ballot boxes. Then, of the 6,000 needs of voting booth, 4,712 have been available or it still needs 1,288 additional voting booths. In the meantime, Buleleng has not received any ballot boxes and voting booth at all.

“Karangasem has received 8,608 ballot boxes in accordance with the official report, while the voting booths have not. Similarly, Klungkung has not received at all while it needs 610 voting booths. So far, it just received 3,139 ballot boxes as the need,” he explained.

John mentioned the shortage of logistics having been reported to the Bali Electoral Commission is then followed up by the Secretariat of Bali Electoral Commission to the Central Electoral Commission and the partners. (kmb32)

Michael Douglas to be honoured with Hollywood Walk Of Fame star LOS ANGELES - Hollywood “legend” Michael Douglas is to receive a star on the Walk of Fame after almost 50 years in the business.

The Oscar-winning actor, best known for his roles in Wall Street, Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction, Falling Down and Romancing The Stone, is being honoured in the Motion Pictures category.

His star will be placed just a few feet away from that of his father, 101-year-old Kirk Douglas, the veteran actor behind Paths Of Glory, Lust for Life and Spartacus.

Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame, said: “Michael Douglas is what legends are made of. He joins his legendary actor/ father Kirk Douglas whose star and Michael’s will forever shine just a few feet from one another.

“We have been patiently waiting for Michael Douglas to unveil his stellar award since he was selected in 2003 and are so excited to finally honour this Hollywood royal with

Trump accused of inciting violence after pipe bomb alerts

Critics of Donald Trump accused him of inciting violence after pipe bombs were sent to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, CNN and other figures that are loathed by the president’s supporters.

With midterm elections less than two weeks away, Trump reacted Wednesday to the rapid fire spate of bomb alerts by first calling for unity, but then reverting to attacking the media. CNN is known for its often critical coverage of the Trump administration and has constantly provoked the ire of the president, who defeated Clinton in 2016 to succeed Obama.

From the White House, Trump first said “acts of political violence” have “no place in the United States.”

“Those engaged in the political arena must stop treating political opponents as being morally defec-

tive,” he later told a campaign rally in Wisconsin, before switching his criticism back to the media.

“The media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and stop the endless hostility and constant negative, and often times false attacks and stories,” he added. “They’ve got to stop.” #MAGABomber trended as users flooded Twitter with accusations that Trump had incited the attempted attacks and highlighting the toxic remarks he has leveled against the pipe bomb targets in the past.

The spree began Monday with a device found at the New York

home of billionaire liberal donor George Soros.

The FBI said a total of seven suspicious packages were sent in New York, Washington and Florida, including to Obama’s attorney general Eric Holder and two to Maxine Waters, a California lawmaker, one in Los Angeles and one in the Washington area.

The packages were sent in manila envelopes with bubble wrap, marked with computer-printed address labels. Each listed Debbie Wasserman Schultz, former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, as the sender. The return address included misspellings of Wasserman Schultz’s last name, the FBI said.

A photo of the device sent to CNN showed it to be a short length of pipe wrapped in black tape, with

wires sticking out of either end.

Another suspicious package addressed to former vice president Joe Biden was also intercepted, ABC News reported Wednesday night.

The FBI said it could not confirm this. FBI Director Christopher Wray appealed for help from the public, saying, “We ask anyone who may have information to contact the FBI. Do not hesitate to call; no piece of information is too small to help us in this investigation.”
