LOS ANGELES - Pop star Demi Lovato was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital Tuesday after an apparent drug overdose but remained in stable condition, reports said. A Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman confirmed to AFP that emergency responders transported a 25-year-old woman from an address that matches Lovato’s to a hospital, but did not identify her by name or state her condition. Celebrity news site TMZ released audio of an emergency call in which responders appear to say that Lovato is unconscious and revived with Narcan, a nasal spray used to treat opioid overdoses. People magazine quoted an anonymous source close to Lovato saying that the singer was in stable condition and that the overdose, while drug-related, was not from heroin, as initially
reported by TMZ. Representatives for Lovato did not respond to requests for comment. A former Disney child star, Lovato has been open about her struggles with addiction as well as depression and eating disorders. A 2012 documentary, “Demi Lovato: Stay Strong,” documents how she used to snort cocaine several times a day but found her way into rehab and back into a successful career. But a month ago, she released a song entitled “Sober,” in which she appeared to indicate a relapse, opening with the line, “I got no excuses for all these goodbyes.” (afp)
Superstar pastry chef’s ‘food porn’ has Instagram drooling PARIS - When Cedric Grolet takes out his pastry knife, millions of mouths water. The young Frenchman, named the top patissier on the planet last month by “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants” list, is an Instagram superstar. Videos of him slicing through the exquisite fake fruit he creates to reveal their tastebud-teasing interiors get millions of views on social media. Millions more drool over images of his glossy hyper-realistic pears, apricots, lemons, peaches and even tomatoes, with Vogue -- a magazine
not known for its championing of high-calorie desserts -- saying they “leave you wanting to lick the screen”. “His fans cry, fall into his arms and demand autographs” and selfies, said the usually sober French daily Le Monde. His work is pure “food porn”, it declared, with only a select few getting the chance to consummate their desire every day at the top Paris hotel where he works. With high tea at Le Meurice featuring his cakes sometimes booked weeks in advance, Grolet opened a
tiny boutique there in March. Its shelves empty within hours every day. His Rubik’s cube cake -- which pivots just like the real thing -- has become a cult on the fashionable Parisian dinner circuit, although at 170 euros ($200) for a cake for six, only those with the deep pockets can afford it. Grolet has even made a blue, white and red version to celebrate France’s World Cup win earlier this month. Like the members of the French football team, he is something of a working-class hero. (afp)

Big Waves Hit Southern Part of Bali
DENPASAR - Big waves have been rolling into Bali’s southern beaches with “monster” high tides, signaling the arrival of some serious swell. Anyone else getting some serious flashbacks to the king tides in 2016? Or in more recent memory, how about the massive waves at Angel’s Billabong last week? The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an alert on Wednesday warning of waves up to six meters in Bali’s southern waters. And with the big waves and high tides have come plenty of videos and photos on the net, documenting the intensity. The high tides has been happening in the last 5 days all around Bali. It made trip to Nusa Penida was
cancelled.BMKG recommend the shut down of fast boat routes last week from Padang Bai harbor to the Gili islands off of Lombok until until conditions improve. Similarly, fast boats have not been operating regularly from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan and Penida, islands off of Bali’s southeastern coast. The helicopter charter has been hired by a number of tourists
“stranded” in the Gilis and Nusa Lembongan, wanting to make it back to mainland Bali. Air Bali, which is actually Bali’s first helicopter company, predominantly provides helicopter tours, but also does medical charters, and film and aerial photography throughout the region when hired. “For the past three days, we have had many (helicopter book-
ings) when boats in Bali have not been operating,” Bali Air marketing manager Feny Soviani told Detik on Saturday. “Usually we take tours in Bali, sometimes make transfers every now and then, but with the boats being cancelled, this has caused an increase of up to 50 percent of the use of helicopters for transfer,” Soviani said. From July 19 to 20, Air Bali had about 100 passengers per day, he said. Foreign tourists were picked up and brought to Bali form Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida, and also Gili Trawangan. But of
course, escape via chopper is only for the financially comfortable. A helicopter ride costs USD450 per passenger from Nusa Penida or Lembongan to Bali, while a troop from Gili Trawangan to Bali runs for USD600 a head, according to Soviani.
