Fans beg Justin Bieber to cancel dates as fear grips pop’s youth LOS ANGELES - Fans of Justin Bieber pleaded on Tuesday for his upcoming British tour dates to be canceled, underscoring the potential repercussions to music acts with a young fan base from the suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.

Canadian heartthrob Bieber, 23, is due to play an open air concert at London’s Hyde Park in July. But fans flooded social media saying his appearance should be axed for the safety both of fans and the singer himself.

“Cancel Justin’s concert in the UK, please! We want him to be safe, please,” a person using the handle marhrukhh wrote on the Instagram account of Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun.

Braun also manages Grande, also 23, a former Nickelodeon star whose huge female fan base, many of them tweens, were out in force for her concert in Manchester on Monday night when a suicide bombing killed 22 people and injured dozens.

The “Problem” singer flew to Florida on Tuesday to spend time with her family, the Daily Mail website reported. Representatives at Grande’s record company did not return calls on whether the remainder of her world tour, with stops in London and Europe, would go ahead.

Leanne Murray, 20, who lives in Ireland, has tickets to see Bieber play in Dublin next month. But she said that after Monday’s bombing she is contemplating selling them.

“I just don’t want what I would hope to be a great night to end in something like last night,” Murray, who paid 180 Euros ($200) each for two tickets told Reuters.

“It’s frightening to think that it could have been any of us and it really shows that you never know what’s around the corner,” Murray added.

Representatives for Bieber did not immediately respond to Reuters on the status of his upcoming performances.

Touring has been one of the top sources of income for musicians in recent years. The top 10 worldwide tour acts grossed a combined $1.67 billion in 2016, according to music industry publication Pollstar, with Bruce Springsteen bringing in $268.3 million alone. (rtr)

tour with Ariana Grande has been suspended until we can further assess the situation and pay our proper respects to those lost,” the statement said. “Our way of life has once again been threatened but we will overcome this together.”

Concert promoter Live Nation said ticket holders will get refunds.

Grande, 23, was unharmed in the attack and was photographed arriving in Florida on Tuesday to be with family and friends. British-born Salman Abedi, 22, blew himself up on Monday night at the packed Manchester Arena at the end of Grande’s concert, attended by thousands of children and teenagers, killing 22 people and injuring 64.

JAKARTA - Indonesia’s anti-terrorism unit raided the home of a suspected suicide bomber on Thursday as authorities linked attacks that killed three police officers at a Jakarta bus station a day earlier to the Islamic State militant group. Six police officers and six civilians were also wounded in the twin blasts set off five minutes apart by two attackers in the Kampung Melayu area of the Indonesian capital late on Wednesday, police said.

The attack was the deadliest in Indonesia since January 2016, when eight people were killed, four of them attackers, after suicide bombers and gunmen attacked the capital. “We must continue to keep calm (and) keep cool. Because ... we Muslims are preparing to enter the month of Ramadan for fasting,” President Joko Widodo said in a statement. Authorities in the world’s biggest Muslimmajority nation are increasingly worried about a surge in radicalism, driven in part by a new generation of militants inspired by Islamic State.

“It’s highly likely it was done by

pro-ISIS people,” Jakarta-based security expert Sidney Jones told media, referring to Islamic State, adding that several groups in Indonesia may have carried out Wednesday’s attack.

National Police spokesman Awi Setyono said there was a link to Islamic State, but added, “We’re still studying whether it’s an international network.” Earlier, he told reporters that police were investigating whether the attackers had direct orders from Syria or elsewhere. A law enforcement source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they may have

been linked to Jemaah Ansharut Daulah, an umbrella organisation on a U.S. State Department “terrorist” list that is estimated to have drawn hundreds of Islamic State sympathisers in Indonesia.

Jelekungkang Waterfall starts to be arranged into tourist attraction

Hawkers insist on selling at Penelokan

Five people allowed, but ban from chasing visitors HAWKERS at the tourist object of Penelokan, Kintamani, Bangli, until now are still peddling their goods around on location. Although there have been restriction signboard placed at the location by local government in order not to sell, local residents having peddled for decades to fulfill their daily needs continue to ignore the restriction.

Secretary of Bangli Municipal Police and Firefighters, Dewa Agung Surya Darma, with permission of the Municipal Police Chief I Nyoman Puja, said that until now the hawkers indeed remain to peddle at Penelokan.

Previously, the local government through the industry and commerce agency has installed a signboard containing a restriction for peddling. Besides, after the installation of the restriction, local government has also prepared a place to accommodate the hawkers in Geopark Art Market. Unfortunately, though having been provided with a place to sell, they still do not want to occupy it.

“The location has been prepared, but the hawkers (merchants) do not want to occupy with the reason that no guests wants to shop at the location provided (Geopark Art Market—Ed),” said Agung Surya Darma, not long ago.

Surya Darma admitted that the space provided is indeed limited. With such conditions, a number of hawkers cannot be accommodated at the location. To get around this, the district government previously indeed provided a schedule for all the merchants to peddle in rotation every three days. However, the effort has not run maximally. “They still do not want to

peddle there, so they return to peddle at Penelokan,” he said.

To find a solution, the village authority previously held a meeting with two groups of merchants namely the Like View and Batur Garden group. He said that based on the results of meeting, the merchants are still allowed to peddle at the location, but only for five merchants. Village authority quibbled if waiting the schedule to peddle every three days it is pity because it has something to do with people’s survival. Based on this consideration, hawkers are still allowed to keep selling at specified amount agreed by village authority.

“Decision of the meeting indeed still allows five people to peddle at Penelokan. However, they are not allowed to leave the box provided and should not pursue guests to peddle their merchandise. Hawkers are not allowed to put their merchandise at the location and they just bring their merchandise by hand. But, we worry if we leave, more and more merchants will come,” he said.

He explained that currently he can only supervise the hawkers. Considering there has been such a policy already made by the local village, his agency did not dare take action too firmly to them.

“Currently, we can only monitor and supervise them while waiting for development at this object scheduled to be worked on this year. If the development has been implemented, there will be a solution to overcome the problem of hawkers. Hopefully, the development will be able to accommodate the hawkers. Thus, it can further simplify the arrangement,” concluded Surya Darma. (nan)

JELEKUNGKANG Waterfall has existed for a long time but has not be well cared for. Last week however people from the community of Jelekungkang hamlet, Tamanbali, Bangli started to arrange the area so that it can be used as a tourist attraction. In order to reach the waterfall, visitors must walk along a narrow pathway along a steep chasm for approximately 2 kilometers. The 25 meters high waterfall can then be appreciated for its pristine water. The path way to the waterfall is now beening opened up to make it easier for people to get to the waterfall.

Initiator of the project of making Jelekungkang waterfall into a tourist destination, I Ketut Purna, explained that they are still cleaning up the path. “ Me and my children and other family members are doing the cleanup” he said, adding that the has enlisted local village youth to accelerate the process.

“They can only come on Sunday when they are not busy with school and other activities” he said.

This waterfall has long been used by local residents for bathing, however only now is the area is more easily accessed. Even thought the pathway to the waterfall still is

not finished, children have already been showing up in droves.

“Now children from the village come here almost everyday and sometimes they pitch in with the clean-up” said this man who also helped to make Kuningan Waterfall more accessible. Purna explained that he took it upon himself to make these waterfalls into tourist attractions as a way to help promote the local village. “ Hopefully this waterfall will become a popular attraction and help provide income for the village” he said.

Chief of Jelekungkang customary village, Wayan Wirya, said: “this waterfall is being developed into a tourist attraction based on the personal idea of Mr. Purna. I mself only heard of the idea a few days ago” he said.

Chief Wirya added that he is confident that the customary village can manage the waterfall as a tourist attraction but added that is is not sure if the waterfall will draw many visitors or not. “For the time being, we do not know how the management will be done.

IF things go well, the customary village will take over the management of the tourist attraction. Let’S see how things progress”, added Wirya. (nan)

TEXAS - A Texas teen whose prom look resembled a can of Arizona iced tea has won the Internet for her creativity.

Vismaya Cherian, a 18-year-old from Houston, hit her May 20 prom wearing a long, mint-green, rose-print skirt and a white top with corset stitching that almost perfectly matched a can of Arizona Green Tea (save for the cherry blossoms printed on the beverage).

“Oops, spilled the tea at prom,” Cherian tweeted, alongside two photos of her holding a can of iced tea, which received 233 likes.

“This wasn’t intentional — when I bought my skirt, my cousin told me it looked like Arizona iced tea,” Cherian tells Yahoo Style.

“So I brought a can to use as a prop during photos.” Sweet!

Cherian isn’t the only teen to get creative with her prom dress.

DENPASAR - The murder of 63 year old Australian tourist Richardson Stephen James, in his rented house on Jalan Danau Poso, South Denpasar, continues to be investigated by a joint team of South Denpasar police, Denpasar police and Bali police. Having found new evidence, the the police are expected to reveal the results of the investigation soon.

“Last night (Tuesday—Ed), we

revealed key elements of the investigation, following the discovery of new evidence”, said Spokesperson of Bali Police, Hengky Widjaja, on Tuesday (May 23), who was reluctant to reveal any details.

The investigation is still ongoing as the perpetrator has yet to be revealed. “There has been progress but it has yet to be submitted”, he said.

SINGAPORE - A newly found flaw in widely used networking software leaves tens of thousands of computers potentially vulnerable to an attack similar to that caused

by WannaCry, which infected more than 300,000 computers worldwide, cybersecurity researchers said on Thursday.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday announced the vulnerability, which could be exploited to take control of an affected computer, and urged users and administrators to apply a patch.

Rebekah Brown of Rapid7, a cybersecurity company, told Reuters that there were no signs yet of at-

tackers exploiting the vulnerability in the 12 hours since its discovery was announced.

But she said it had taken researchers only 15 minutes to develop malware that made use of the hole. “This one seems to be very, very easy to exploit,” she said.

Rapid7 said it had found more than 100,000 computers running vulnerable versions of the software, Samba, free networking software developed for Linux and Unix computers. There are likely to be many more, it said in response to emailed questions.

Most of the computers found are running older versions of the

software and cannot be patched, said Brown.

Some of the computers appear to belong to organisations and companies, she said, but most were home users.

The vulnerability could potentially be used to create a worm like the one which allowed WannaCry to spread so quickly, Brown said, but that would require an extra step for the attacker.

Cybersecurity researchers have said they believe North Korean hackers were behind the WannaCry malware, which encrypted data on victims’ computers and demanded bitcoin in return for a decryption key. (rtr)

WELLINGTON - New Zealand expects to post a bigger-than-forecast budget surplus in 2017 and plans to invest the extra cash in infrastructure to fuel the growing economy, Finance Minister Steven Joyce said on Thursday. The government predicted a NZ$1.62 billion ($1.14 billion)surplus in the year to June versus its prior forecast for a NZ$473 million surplus in the December half-year economic and fiscal update. global prices for New Zealand’s main export earner, dairy, and booming tourism has led to unemployment hovering around eight-year lows of 4.8 percent and GDP growth at 2.7 percent.

The Treasury lifted its forecast economic growth to 3.7 percent in the year to June 2018 from 3.4 percent, and 3.5 percent in the following year from the 2.6 percent previously forecast.

Economists questioned whether New Zealand’s growth would be that strong, given capacity constraints, particularly in the construction sector. Despite a strong economy that remains the envy of developed country peers, fast-rising housing costs have pressured the government to do more for first-time buyers who have been priced out of the market.

Economists said raising tax thresholds was an acknowledgement that not everyone was benefiting from the fast-growing economy.

“The focus of policy initiatives was very much on assisting low-income earners and lowincome families,” said ASB Bank economists, in a research note. Record immigration, which has fuelled rises in housing prices, is also putting a strain on infrastructure. The government previously announced a plan to build 34,000 new homes over the next decade.

As such, it was a most suitable venue for “A celebration of Indigenous Culture”, an evening of song, dance and stories from Dayak, Lakota and Balinese artists organized by Bali Spirit Festival, supported by Kryasta Guna Foundation, Ranuwelum Foundation and ARMA Foundation with talks by Bali Regreen and Bali Conference.

Indigenous people are defined as those who have lived in the same place for countless generations, however the term has come to mean something closer to ‘people who have lived in a place for countless generations and who care for that place in a sustainable manner and who struggle to do so in the face of exploitive forces’. Of course all people are indigenous to planet earth, but not all people have cared for their land in a sustainable manner nor even tried to.

What is referred to today and as art, for most of human history and for most people in the world today is intimately tied to social cohesion, environmental awareness and spiritual practices or what is known in Bali as Tri Hitta Karana. For this reason it is not surprising to find many similarities between ‘indigenous artistic practices’ of peoples from different parts of the world, as art in this context is inseparable from the whole life experience. The differences that we find spring forth from natural human creativity and from the particular aspects of the natural environment of different places. The similarities spring from our common spiritual origin and awareness of our interdependence on the natural environment including our fellow humans.

What is surprising is to find similar expressions from vastly different places like say Kalimantan and North America. Yet this surprise

quickly fades into easy appreciation when the two come together to express themselves in what we now call art or more specifically song and dance as witnessed at Arma Museum last Thursday (May 18).

A screening of the film Long Sa’an by Indonesian director Eric Est with soundtrack by local rock star Robbi Navicula started the evening as we learned the story of a group of Dayak who were forced to move from their ancestral village and the moving story of a trip back to the site of the graveyard in the remote hills of Kalimantan.

The event continued on moving somewhat awkwardly from heart warming music and dance by some of the Dayak people who appeared in the movie, to spokespeople from the various sponsors of the event speaking about their environmental initiatives with a brief interlude of Balinese gamelan music, before a spectacular example of the healing power of dance from guests from the Lakota people of North America (missouri), finally culminating in a collaborative music and dance performance by the Dayak, Lakota and Balinese artists.

The power of these artists coming together to share their ancestral teachings, that they express in their art, was certainly felt by all who were present and likely by many who were not as well. All of the sponsors who spoke at the event were clearly driven and dedicated

to doing something beneficial for the environment in a socially equitable fashion. It was also impressive to hear how many people had come together in such a short time to make this event happen.

At the end of the evening one of the Lakota elders invited 20 or so members of the audience onto the stage to learn the basic steps of the ‘hoop-dance’ which, he explained essentially represents our interconnectedness. Although the entire event was referring to the importance and beauty of togetherness, art, and nature this was the the only moment during the evening that the holistic way of integrating art, nature and spirit was experience in a visceral way, bringing performers and audience together as a whole.

It was at this moment that we felt the power of song and dance to bring humans back into alignment with nature, our fellow humans and the great spirit, a reminder that indigenous culture in the broadest sense offers the solution of inclusiveness to the problem of separation, a reminder that what we often think of as art is not in not separate from the rest of life but is in fact an essential part of the human experience.

By expressing ourselves through art, we allow our heart’s deepest knowing to become manifested and in so doing allow harmonious relations to flourish.(Sri Rahayu)

MANCHESTER - British police have stopped sharing information on the suicide bombing in Manchester with the United States, a British counter-terrorism source told Reuters on Thursday after police said leaks to U.S. media risked hindering their investigation.

Police are hunting for a possible bomb-maker after the 22-year-old attacker, British-born Salman Abedi, detonated a sophisticated device at a concert venue packed with children on Monday night, killing 22 people and injuring 64.

As the situation remained tense in Manchester, police said they were responding to a call at a college in the Trafford area, roads were closed and they were assessing the situation. Army bomb disposal experts had arrived at the college.

The decision to stop sharing police information with U.S. agencies was an extraordinary step as Britain sees the United States as its closest ally on security and intelligence.

“This is until such time as we have assurances that no further unauthorised disclosures will occur,” said the counter-terrorism source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

BRASILIA - Protesters demanding the resignation of Brazilian President Michel Temer staged running battles with police and set fire to a ministry building in Brasilia on Wednesday, prompting the scandal-hit leader to order the army onto the streets.

Police unleashed volleys of tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets to halt tens of thousands of protesters as they marched towards Congress to call for Temer’s ouster and an end to his austerity program.

Masked protesters fired powerful fireworks at police, set ablaze furniture in the Agriculture Ministry, and sprayed anti-Temer graffiti on government buildings.

It was the most violent protest in Brasilia since anti-government demonstrations in 2013 and fueled a political crisis sparked by allegations Temer condoned paying off a potential witness in a massive corruption probe.

The scandal has raised chances Brazil could see a second president fall in less than a year.

Police cordons held back protesters from advancing on the modernistic Congress building where the main ally in Temer’s coalition, the PSDB party, met to discuss whether to continue backing him and prepare for a post-Temer transition.

One protestor was shot and wounded, police said. Local media reported at least one other demonstrator was seriously injured by a rubber bullet to the face, while another lost part of his hand while trying to throw an explosive device at officers. The city government said 49 people were hurt.

Temer, a former vice president whose government’s approval rating is in the single digits, took office a year ago after former President Dilma Rousseff was impeached for breaking budgetary laws.

Rousseff and her supporters labeled that a “coup” orchestrated by Temer and his allies in an effort to halt a sweeping, three-year corruption probe that has placed scores of sitting politicians under investigation.

Temer defiantly refused to resign last week after the Supreme Court opened an investigation into the hush-money allegations made in plea-bargain testimony by executives at meatpacking giant JBS SA. Floods affect 526 families in Langkat

LANGKAT - Floods hit several villages in Langkat District, North Sumatra province, affecting a total of 526 families, a local officer said here on Thursday. The flood waters reached a height of between 30 centimeters and one meter, Noto Atmojo of the local disaster mitigation office, said.

The flooding was triggered by the overflowing of Sei Lepan and Sei Pelawi Rivers after a 15-meter long dyke burst.

In Sei Lepan sub-district, several villages, including Lama Baru, Lama, Harapan Baru, and dan Harapan Jaya, were affected by the floods. In Lama Baru village, 29 families were forced to flee to higher grounds.

In Babalan sub-district, floods affected 69 families in South Pelawi and North Sacurai villages.

The local disaster mitigation office has set up emergency tents

to accommodate the flood victims and deployed several rubber boats for evacuation.

Besides this, rice fields covering a total of 310 hectares were flooded in the two sub-districts.

Of the total, 270 hectares were located in Lama Village, Sei Lepan Sub-district, Miswandi, a local agricultural coordinator, revealed.

Moreover, 20 hectares of rice fields and 12 hectares of corn fields were inundated in the Harapan Baru Village. Corn fields in the villages of Suka Damai and Hinai Hanan were also flooded.

In the Babalan Sub-district, flooding affected 20 hectares of rice fields in North Pelawai Village.

Noto Atmojo stated that the flooding also affected the palm oil plantations, including 100 hectares in Harapan Baru Village and 10 hectares in Lama Village. (ant)

Charliyan said it is aimed at preventing activities in the province such as an alleged gay sex party recently raided in the capital, Jakarta. Police on Sunday detained 141 men including four foreigners in a raid on a gay gym and sauna in north Jakarta in what was seen as a reflection of growing hostility to homosexuality in the world’s most populous Muslim nation. Police say the sauna was the venue of a sex party promoted as “The Wild One.” Police arrested 10 of the men on charges of violating the country’s pornography law. If found guilty, they could face penalties of up to 10 years in prison and fines. A coalition of legal aid and criminal justice reform groups condemned the raid. It accused police of violating the rights of those arrested by photographing them naked and facilitating the spread of the images on social media.

“It is not impossible that such

activities could happen in West Java, a province with a large population,” Charliyan said. “Therefore we set up this task force.” He said the targets could be gyms and parlors which hold LGBT parties, and that police had already identified some venues. He urged communities to report such activities.

Slamet Rahardjo of Gaya Warna Lentera Indonesia, a rights group for LGBT people and victims of HIV, objected to the task force, which he described as a “very excessive action which has potential to trigger conflicts among the people.”

On Tuesday, two men were publicly caned 83 times each in Aceh, the only province in Indonesia to practice Shariah law, for consensual gay sex, a punishment which rights advocates denounced as “medieval torture.”

With the exception of Aceh, homosexuality is not illegal in Indonesia, but the country’s lowprofile LGBT community has been increasingly under siege in recent years with stridently anti-gay comments from Cabinet ministers and other high-profile Indonesians. Last month, police in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, arrested 14 men at what they alleged was a sex party and forced them to have HIV tests. (ap)

JAKARTA - Jakarta governor-elect Anies Baswedan said there was no need to be afraid of fighting against terrorists and that Jakartans should be able to prove that they love peace. “I want to express my strong condemnation over the attack. I also wish to stress that we should not be afraid of fighting terrorists. We should show that Jakartans are peace-loving people,” he said after visiting the victims of the Kampung Melayu suicide bombing on Thursday.

He also appreciated all sides, including residents who acted fast and helped each other and the police who are now working hard to reveal the bombing attack. “I especially appreciate medical personnel who provided intensive care for the victims. Let us pray for the recovery of the injured,” Baswedan stated. He visited the survivors of the attack at Jatinegara Premier Hospital. He visited police second brigadier Ferry, who survived the Wednesday nights (May 24) tragedy, on the eighth floor of the hospital.

He also visited two civilians who survived the attack on the seventh floor of the hospital. He met Jihan, a female student, and Agung, a male bus conductor who suffered several injuries on his legs. Finally, the Jakarta governor-elect visited second brigadier Yogi, a police member who had not yet regained consciousness, in the ICU of the hospital.

The Indonesian Police have confirmed that five people, comprising three police officers and two

suspected suicide bombers, were killed in the twin bomb blasts in Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, on Wednesday evening.

Inspector General Setyo Wasisto, spokesman of the Police Headquarters, revealed here on Thursday that 11 people, comprising six police officers and five civilians, were also injured in the attack. The five civilians were drivers of public vehicles, two female university students, and an employee of a state enterprise. The victims were rushed to the Jatinegara Premier Hospital, Said Sukant Kramat Jati Police Hospital, Budi Asih Hospital, and Hermina Hospital that were located nearby.

The two bombs exploded at 9 p.m. and 9:05 p.m. local time, respectively. The police officers, who were killed and injured, were on duty to guard a group of people who were holding a torch parade to welcome the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. The parade had not yet passed by when the blasts occurred.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has instructed Chief of the National Police General Tito Karnavian to quell the network of suicide bombers. “I have ordered the National Police chief to totally crush the network of the perpetrators. We have instructed to quell it until its roots,” he stated at his private residence, in Solo, Central Java, on Thursday.

The president also expressed his condolences to the victims and families of the suicide bombing. “I convey my deep condolences to the victims and their families and those still in hospital, particularly the police officers on duty,” Jokowi stated. (ant)

PARIS - Britain’s Andy Murray, who has suffered a dip in form this year, said on Wednesday it had been hard at times for him to stay motivated since he became world number one last year.

Appearing at a promotional event in Paris with French Olympic judo champion Teddy Riner, who has dominated the men’s +100kg category in his sport for years, Murray praised Riner’s motivation to stay at the top for so long.

MONACO - Lewis Hamilton lapped faster than ever at Monaco as the Mercedes driver and Ferrari’s championship leader Sebastian Vettel set the pace in first practice for Formula One’s showcase race on Thursday.

The triple world champion, who can equal the 65 career pole positions of boyhood idol Ayrton Senna in Saturday’s qualifying, topped the timesheets with a best lap of one minute 13.425 seconds on ultrasoft tyres.

Air of mystery hangs over Totti’s ‘final’ Roma game

Often criticized, the Europa League matters once more

STOCKHOLM — Jose Mourinho had just been repeatedly tossed into the air by members of his backroom staff when the jubilant Manchester United manager beckoned his son, Jose Jr., onto the field. They danced in each other’s arms before falling to the ground, where they shared a long, warm embrace. Mourinho never could have thought that winning the Europa League, following United’s 2-0 victory over Ajax on Wednesday, would mean so much to him.

In 2013, Mourinho — newly hired as Chelsea manager for the second time — was dismissive of the league, saying he didn’t want to win it and that doing so “would be a big disappointment to me.” Fast forward four years, and the oft-criticized Europa League has saved his first season at Unite, and opened up exciting new possibilities in the process. For Mourinho and many other managers, the value of the Europa League has increased massively following UEFA’s decision to award a Champions League qualifying place to the winner. That took effect starting in the 2015-16 season and it is telling that the four finalists since then have been high caliber: Sevilla and Liverpool in 2016, and United and Ajax in 2017.

The Champions League’s poor relation can be a long slog of a competition — the winner will end up playing at least 15 games during its campaign — but teams across Europe seem to be taking it seriously once again. No more so than in England. Premier League sides, more than anyone else, used to treat it with contempt by fielding reserve teams for matches. Quite

simply, the competition wasn’t worth the effort, with the effects of playing on Thursday night — sometimes in far-flung locations — having an impact on league performances the following Sunday.

And for English clubs, it was all about the Premier League and its vast riches on offer. Since the Premier League’s inaugural year in 1992, England has provided just six of the 50 finalists in the UEFA Cup/Europa League, a disappointing figure given the wealth and supposed quality of its representatives. United was the third English winner in that time, after Liverpool in 2001 and Chelsea in 2013.

The mindset is changing, though. Qualifying for the Champions League via a top-four finish in the Premier League has never been tougher, with six teams — Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, Liverpool, United, and Arsenal — genuine heavyweights.

Two will always miss out, so qualifying for the Champions League through the back door — via the Europa League — is increasingly enticing. The fact a team can win a trophy while doing so adds to the lure, as Mourinho pointed out on Wednesday. “We go to the Champions League by winning a trophy, not by finishing second, third or fourth,” Mourinho said, a comment clearly serving as a little dig at Tottenham, City, and Liverpool.

It will be interesting to see how Arsenal approaches the Europa League next season after its fifth-place finish in the Premier League. AC Milan, a seven-time European champion, will be the other stand-out name in the competition should the Italian team get through two qualifying rounds. (ap)

MILAN - AS Roma’s home game with lowly Genoa on Sunday is expected to bring the curtain down on Francesco Totti’s 25 years at the club though the player himself has not said he intends to retire. Second-placed Roma have made it clear they will not offer the 40-year-old playmaker another contract but Totti’s refusal to play ball has left an air of mystery over the match. The club have been criticised for their handling of what has become an uncomfortable situation for them with coach Luciano Spalletti making little use of Totti this season.

With Napoli, who are third, just a point behind in the standings, there will be no time for sentiment, either, as Roma need to win to make sure of finishing runners-up to Juventus and qualifying for the Champions League group stage next season.

Third place would mean going into the final playoff round where Italian teams have been eliminated in six of the last eight seasons with Roma themselves among the victims last August. Napoli visit mid-table Sampdoria on Sunday.

Spalletti’ frustration showed when he was asked why he had not brought on Totti in the 4-1 win at AC Milan for what would have been his last appearance at San Siro earlier this month.

The shaven-headed coach said he would not have become Roma coach if he knew it was going to be such a complicated issue and said his job was to manage Totti as a player, not his legacy. Roma’s

sporting director Ramon Rodriguez ‘Monchi’ reiterated recently that Totti had agreed that this season would be his last, while chief executive Umberto Gandini said the player’s contribution would “continue in another way” next term.

Throughout this whole episode, Totti has refused to say whether he actually wants to call it a day, saying only that “there will be time to talk about it.”

Supporters of Roma’s archrivals Lazio, who share the Olympic Stadium, could not resist a dig at their neighbours. “You have not received respect from either your fans or your club we tell you sincerely that we are sorry,” Lazio’s hard-core fans said in a statement addressed to Totti on Monday. “We are sorry, we would never have allowed a player like you to be treated like this. We would never have silently observed what they are doing to you.”

Sampdoria forward Fabio Quagliarella said Totti “doesn’t deserve to be treated like this” while former Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero was saddened. “I’m sorry that this story has had some sad moments,” he said. “The truth is known to Totti, Spalletti and the club, and only they can answer certain questions.” Zdenek Zeman, one of 16 coaches Totti has played under at the club, added: “I haven’t heard that he wants to leave... David Beckham on US Soccer Hall of Fame ballot CHICAGO — David Beckham, the English midfielder who brought increased visibility to American soccer and won a pair of Major League Soccer titles while playing for the LA Galaxy from 2007-12, is among 12 first-time candidates on the 33-player ballot for the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Defender Steve Cherundolo, midfielder Pablo Mastroeni and forward Brian Ching, key parts of the U.S. national team, also are new candidates on the ballot announced Wednesday. Messi loses Supreme Court appeal over tax-fraud conviction

MADRID — Lionel Messi has lost his Supreme Court appeal over a tax-fraud conviction in Spain. The court confirmed the 21-month prison sentence handed to Messi for defrauding tax authorities of 4.1 million euros ($4.6 million) from 2007-09. He is not expected to go to prison because sentences of less than two years for first offenses are usually suspended in Spain.

The court maintained the 2 million euro ($2.24 million) fine handed to the Argentina player in last year’s trial.

David Beckham on US Soccer Hall of Fame ballot CHICAGO — David Beckham, the English midfielder who brought increased visibility to American soccer and won a pair of Major League Soccer titles while playing for the LA Galaxy from 2007-12, is among 12 first-time candidates on the 33-player ballot for the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Defender Steve Cherundolo, midfielder Pablo Mastroeni and forward Brian Ching, key parts of the U.S. national team, also are new candidates on the ballot announced Wednesday. MADRID — Lionel Messi has lost his Supreme Court appeal over a tax-fraud conviction in Spain. The court confirmed the 21-month prison sentence handed to Messi for defrauding tax authorities of 4.1 million euros ($4.6 million) from 2007-09. He is not expected to go to prison because sentences of less than two years for first offenses are usually suspended in Spain.

The court maintained the 2 million euro ($2.24 million) fine handed to the Argentina player in last year’s trial.

PARIS - Britain’s Andy Murray, who has suffered a dip in form this year, said on Wednesday it had been hard at times for him to stay motivated since he became world number one last year.

Appearing at a promotional event in Paris with French Olympic judo champion Teddy Riner, who has dominated the men’s +100kg category in his sport for years, Murray praised Riner’s motivation to stay at the top for so long.

“I got to number one in the world at the end of last year and there’s been some times this year where it has been difficult to keep up the motivation and set new goals,” Murray said.

MANCHESTER - British police have stopped sharing information on the suicide bombing in Manchester with the United States, a British counter-terrorism source told Reuters on Thursday after police said leaks to U.S. media risked hindering their investigation.

Police are hunting for a possible bomb-maker after the 22-year-old attacker, British-born Salman Abedi, detonated a sophisticated device at a concert venue packed with children on Monday night, killing 22 people and injuring 64.

As the situation remained tense in Manchester, police said they were responding to a call at a college in the Trafford area, roads were closed and they were assessing the situation. Army bomb disposal experts had arrived at the college.

The decision to stop sharing police information with U.S. agencies was an extraordinary step as Britain sees the United States as its closest ally on security and intelligence.

“This is until such time as we have assurances that no further unauthorised disclosures will occur,” said the counter-terrorism source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

BRASILIA - Protesters demanding the resignation of Brazilian President Michel Temer staged running battles with police and set fire to a ministry building in Brasilia on Wednesday, prompting the scandal-hit leader to order the army onto the streets.

Police unleashed volleys of tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets to halt tens of thousands of protesters as they marched towards Congress to call for Temer’s ouster and an end to his austerity program.

Masked protesters fired powerful fireworks at police, set ablaze furniture in the Agriculture Ministry, and sprayed anti-Temer graffiti on government buildings.

It was the most violent protest in Brasilia since anti-government demonstrations in 2013 and fueled a political crisis sparked by allegations Temer condoned paying off a potential witness in a massive corruption probe.

The scandal has raised chances Brazil could see a second president fall in less than a year.

Police cordons held back protesters from advancing on the modernistic Congress building where the main ally in Temer’s coalition, the PSDB party, met to discuss whether to continue backing him and prepare for a post-Temer transition.

One protestor was shot and wounded, police said. Local media reported at least one other demonstrator was seriously injured by a rubber bullet to the face, while another lost part of his hand while trying to throw an explosive device at officers. The city government said 49 people were hurt.

Temer approved a decree allowing army troops to assist police in restoring order in Brasilia for the next week, giving soldiers policing powers and the right to make arrests. His office said Temer turned to the military after police were overwhelmed.

The move brought immediate criticism in a nation where memories of a brutal 1964-85 military dictatorship remain fresh.

“What are they going to do? Intervene and wage war against the people that are out there on the esplanade?” Senator Gleisi Hoffmann of the opposition Workers’ Party said on the Senate floor.

Temer, a former vice president whose government’s approval rating is in the single digits, took office a year ago after former President Dilma Rousseff was impeached for breaking budgetary laws.

Rousseff and her supporters labeled that a “coup” orchestrated by Temer and his allies in an effort to halt a sweeping, three-year corruption probe that has placed scores of sitting politicians under investigation.

Temer defiantly refused to resign last week after the Supreme Court opened an investigation into the hush-money allegations made in plea-bargain testimony by executives at meatpacking giant JBS SA. Floods affect 526 families in Langkat

LANGKAT - Floods hit several villages in Langkat District, North Sumatra province, affecting a total of 526 families, a local officer said here on Thursday. The flood waters reached a height of between 30 centimeters and one meter, Noto Atmojo of the local disaster mitigation office, said.

The flooding was triggered by the overflowing of Sei Lepan and Sei Pelawi Rivers after a 15-meter long dyke burst.

In Sei Lepan sub-district, several villages, including Lama Baru, Lama, Harapan Baru, and dan Harapan Jaya, were affected by the floods. In Lama Baru village, 29 families were forced to flee to higher grounds.

In Babalan sub-district, floods affected 69 families in South Pelawi and North Sacurai villages.

The local disaster mitigation office has set up emergency tents

to accommodate the flood victims and deployed several rubber boats for evacuation.

Besides this, rice fields covering a total of 310 hectares were flooded in the two sub-districts.

Of the total, 270 hectares were located in Lama Village, Sei Lepan Sub-district, Miswandi, a local agricultural coordinator, revealed.

Moreover, 20 hectares of rice fields and 12 hectares of corn fields were inundated in the Harapan Baru Village. Corn fields in the villages of Suka Damai and Hinai Hanan were also flooded.

In the Babalan Sub-district, flooding affected 20 hectares of rice fields in North Pelawai Village.

Noto Atmojo stated that the flooding also affected the palm oil plantations, including 100 hectares in Harapan Baru Village and 10 hectares in Lama Village. (ant)

BANDUNG - Indonesian police in West Java said Wednesday they have set up a task force to investigate activities by gays in the country’s most populous province. West Java police chief Anton Charliyan said the task force includes police, army and provincial officials, and will monitor and search for locations used for parties by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Charliyan said it is aimed at preventing activities in the province such as an alleged gay sex party recently raided in the capital, Jakarta. Police on Sunday detained 141 men including four foreigners in a raid on a gay gym and sauna in north Jakarta in what was seen as a reflection of growing hostility to homosexuality in the world’s most populous Muslim nation. Police say the sauna was the venue of a sex party promoted as “The Wild One.” Police arrested 10 of the men on charges of violating the country’s pornography law. If found guilty, they could face penalties of up to 10 years in prison and fines. A coalition of legal aid and criminal justice reform groups condemned the raid. It accused police of violating the rights of those arrested by photographing them naked and facilitating the spread of the images on social media.

“It is not impossible that such

activities could happen in West Java, a province with a large population,” Charliyan said. “Therefore we set up this task force.” He said the targets could be gyms and parlors which hold LGBT parties, and that police had already identified some venues. He urged communities to report such activities.

Slamet Rahardjo of Gaya Warna Lentera Indonesia, a rights group for LGBT people and victims of HIV, objected to the task force, which he described as a “very excessive action which has potential to trigger conflicts among the people.”

On Tuesday, two men were publicly caned 83 times each in Aceh, the only province in Indonesia to practice Shariah law, for consensual gay sex, a punishment which rights advocates denounced as “medieval torture.”

With the exception of Aceh, homosexuality is not illegal in Indonesia, but the country’s lowprofile LGBT community has been increasingly under siege in recent years with stridently anti-gay comments from Cabinet ministers and other high-profile Indonesians. JAKARTA - Jakarta governor-elect Anies Baswedan said there was no need to be afraid of fighting against terrorists and that Jakartans should be able to prove that they love peace. “I want to express my strong condemnation over the attack. I also wish to stress that we should not be afraid of fighting terrorists. We should show that Jakartans are peace-loving people,” he said after visiting the victims of the Kampung Melayu suicide bombing on Thursday.

He also appreciated all sides, including residents who acted fast and helped each other and the police who are now working hard to reveal the bombing attack. “I especially appreciate medical personnel who provided intensive care for the victims. Let us pray for the recovery of the injured,” Baswedan stated. He visited the survivors of the attack at Jatinegara Premier Hospital. He visited police second brigadier Ferry, who survived the Wednesday nights (May 24) tragedy, on the eighth floor of the hospital.

He also visited two civilians who survived the attack on the seventh floor of the hospital. He met Jihan, a female student, and Agung, a male bus conductor who suffered several injuries on his legs. Finally, the Jakarta governor-elect visited second brigadier Yogi, a police member who had not yet regained consciousness, in the ICU of the hospital.

The Indonesian Police have confirmed that five people, comprising three police officers and two

suspected suicide bombers, were killed in the twin bomb blasts in Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, on Wednesday evening.

Inspector General Setyo Wasisto, spokesman of the Police Headquarters, revealed here on Thursday that 11 people, comprising six police officers and five civilians, were also injured in the attack. The five civilians were drivers of public vehicles, two female university students, and an employee of a state enterprise. The victims were rushed to the Jatinegara Premier Hospital, Said Sukant Kramat Jati Police Hospital, Budi Asih Hospital, and Hermina Hospital that were located nearby.

The two bombs exploded at 9 p.m. and 9:05 p.m. local time, respectively. The police officers, who were killed and injured, were on duty to guard a group of people who were holding a torch parade to welcome the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. The parade had not yet passed by when the blasts occurred.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has instructed Chief of the National Police General Tito Karnavian to quell the network of suicide bombers. “I have ordered the National Police chief to totally crush the network of the perpetrators. We have instructed to quell it until its roots,” he stated at his private residence, in Solo, Central Java, on Thursday.

WELLINGTON - New Zealand expects to post a bigger-than-forecast budget surplus in 2017 and plans to invest the extra cash in infrastructure to fuel the growing economy, Finance Minister Steven Joyce said on Thursday. The government predicted a NZ$1.62 billion ($1.14 billion)surplus in the year to June versus its prior forecast for a NZ$473 million surplus in the December half-year economic and fiscal update. global prices for New Zealand’s main export earner, dairy, and booming tourism has led to unemployment hovering around eight-year lows of 4.8 percent and GDP growth at 2.7 percent.

The Treasury lifted its forecast economic growth to 3.7 percent in the year to June 2018 from 3.4 percent, and 3.5 percent in the following year from the 2.6 percent previously forecast.

Economists questioned whether New Zealand’s growth would be that strong, given capacity constraints, particularly in the construction sector. Despite a strong economy that remains the envy of developed country peers, fast-rising housing costs have pressured the government to do more for first-time buyers who have been priced out of the market.

Economists said raising tax thresholds was an acknowledgement that not everyone was benefiting from the fast-growing economy.

“The focus of policy initiatives was very much on assisting low-income earners and lowincome families,” said ASB Bank economists, in a research note. Record immigration, which has fuelled rises in housing prices, is also putting a strain on infrastructure. The government previously announced a plan to build 34,000 new homes over the next decade.

New Zealand expects to spend bigger 2017 surplus on infrastructure “These surpluses are significant, but they will be needed to meet the cost of the very large new capital investment the Government has committed to,” said Joyce while presenting the annual budget. Joyce announced NZ$11 billion in spending on infrastructure including road, rail, prisons and housing over the next four years. As such, it was a most suitable venue for “A celebration of Indigenous Culture”, an evening of song, dance and stories from Dayak, Lakota and Balinese artists organized by Bali Spirit Festival, supported by Kryasta Guna Foundation, Ranuwelum Foundation and ARMA Foundation with talks by Bali Regreen and Bali Conference.

Indigenous people are defined as those who have lived in the same place for countless generations, however the term has come to mean something closer to ‘people who have lived in a place for countless generations and who care for that place in a sustainable manner and who struggle to do so in the face of exploitive forces’. Of course all people are indigenous to planet earth, but not all people have cared for their land in a sustainable manner nor even tried to.

What is referred to today and as art, for most of human history and for most people in the world today is intimately tied to social cohesion, environmental awareness and spiritual practices or what is known in Bali as Tri Hitta Karana. For this reason it is not surprising to find many similarities between ‘indigenous artistic practices’ of peoples from different parts of the world, as art in this context is inseparable from the whole life experience. The differences that we find spring forth from natural human creativity and from the particular aspects of the natural environment of different places. The similarities spring from our common spiritual origin and awareness of our interdependence on the natural environment including our fellow humans.

What is surprising is to find similar expressions from vastly different places like say Kalimantan and North America. Yet this surprise

quickly fades into easy appreciation when the two come together to express themselves in what we now call art or more specifically song and dance as witnessed at Arma Museum last Thursday (May 18).

A screening of the film Long Sa’an by Indonesian director Eric Est with soundtrack by local rock star Robbi Navicula started the evening as we learned the story of a group of Dayak who were forced to move from their ancestral village and the moving story of a trip back to the site of the graveyard in the remote hills of Kalimantan.

The event continued on moving somewhat awkwardly from heart warming music and dance by some of the Dayak people who appeared in the movie, to spokespeople from the various sponsors of the event speaking about their environmental initiatives with a brief interlude of Balinese gamelan music, before a spectacular example of the healing power of dance from guests from the Lakota people of North America (missouri), finally culminating in a collaborative music and dance performance by the Dayak, Lakota and Balinese artists.

The power of these artists coming together to share their ancestral teachings, that they express in their art, was certainly felt by all who were present and likely by many who were not as well. All of the sponsors who spoke at the event were clearly driven and dedicated

to doing something beneficial for the environment in a socially equitable fashion. It was also impressive to hear how many people had come together in such a short time to make this event happen.

At the end of the evening one of the Lakota elders invited 20 or so members of the audience onto the stage to learn the basic steps of the ‘hoop-dance’ which, he explained essentially represents our interconnectedness. Although the entire event was referring to the importance and beauty of togetherness, art, and nature this was the the only moment during the evening that the holistic way of integrating art, nature and spirit was experience in a visceral way, bringing performers and audience together as a whole.

It was at this moment that we felt the power of song and dance to bring humans back into alignment with nature, our fellow humans and the great spirit, a reminder that indigenous culture in the broadest sense offers the solution of inclusiveness to the problem of separation, a reminder that what we often think of as art is not in not separate from the rest of life but is in fact an essential part of the human experience.

By expressing ourselves through art, we allow our heart’s deepest knowing to become manifested and in so doing allow harmonious relations to flourish.(Sri Rahayu)

Virtually 50 percent of existing accommodation today has been occupied. He estimated that tourist arrivals will increase in July to September.

Moreover, he mentioned that condition of Nusa Penida in the eyes of tourists today are just like seeing Bali 30 years ago. In addition to the absence of congestion and the modernization of building seems to run slowly.

However, due to many entrances to Nusa Penida, it is difficult to make data collection and maintain the security of Nusa Penida area.

The army sent about 100 soldiers, including U.S.-trained special forces, to retake buildings and streets in mainly Muslim Marawi City held by militants of the Maute group, which has pledged allegiance to Islamic State.

SINGAPORE - A newly found flaw in widely used networking software leaves tens of thousands of computers potentially vulnerable to an attack similar to that caused

by WannaCry, which infected more than 300,000 computers worldwide, cybersecurity researchers said on Thursday.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday announced the vulnerability, which could be exploited to take control of an affected computer, and urged users and administrators to apply a patch.

Rebekah Brown of Rapid7, a cybersecurity company, told Reuters that there were no signs yet of at-

tackers exploiting the vulnerability in the 12 hours since its discovery was announced.

But she said it had taken researchers only 15 minutes to develop malware that made use of the hole. “This one seems to be very, very easy to exploit,” she said.

Rapid7 said it had found more than 100,000 computers running vulnerable versions of the software, Samba, free networking software developed for Linux and Unix computers. There are likely to be many more, it said in response to emailed questions.

Most of the computers found are running older versions of the

software and cannot be patched, said Brown.

Some of the computers appear to belong to organisations and companies, she said, but most were home users.

The vulnerability could potentially be used to create a worm like the one which allowed WannaCry to spread so quickly, Brown said, but that would require an extra step for the attacker.

Cybersecurity researchers have said they believe North Korean hackers were behind the WannaCry malware, which encrypted data on victims’ computers and demanded bitcoin in return for a decryption key. (rtr)

TEXAS - A Texas teen whose prom look resembled a can of Arizona iced tea has won the Internet for her creativity.

Vismaya Cherian, a 18-year-old from Houston, hit her May 20 prom wearing a long, mint-green, rose-print skirt and a white top with corset stitching that almost perfectly matched a can of Arizona Green Tea (save for the cherry blossoms printed on the beverage).

“Oops, spilled the tea at prom,” Cherian tweeted, alongside two photos of her holding a can of iced tea, which received 233 likes.

“This wasn’t intentional — when I bought my skirt, my cousin told me it looked like Arizona iced tea,” Cherian tells Yahoo Style.

“So I brought a can to use as a prop during photos.” Sweet!

Cherian isn’t the only teen to get creative with her prom dress.

DENPASAR - The murder of 63 year old Australian tourist Richardson Stephen James, in his rented house on Jalan Danau Poso, South Denpasar, continues to be investigated by a joint team of South Denpasar police, Denpasar police and Bali police. Having found new evidence, the the police are expected to reveal the results of the investigation soon.

“Last night (Tuesday—Ed), we

Hawkers insist on selling at Penelokan

Five people allowed, but ban from chasing visitors HAWKERS at the tourist object of Penelokan, Kintamani, Bangli, until now are still peddling their goods around on location. Although there have been restriction signboard placed at the location by local government in order not to sell, local residents having peddled for decades to fulfill their daily needs continue to ignore the restriction.

Secretary of Bangli Municipal Police and Firefighters, Dewa Agung Surya Darma, with permission of the Municipal Police Chief I Nyoman Puja, said that until now the hawkers indeed remain to peddle at Penelokan.

Previously, the local government through the industry and commerce agency has installed a signboard containing a restriction for peddling. Besides, after the installation of the restriction, local government has also prepared a place to accommodate the hawkers in Geopark Art Market. Unfortunately, though having been provided with a place to sell, they still do not want to occupy it.

“The location has been prepared, but the hawkers (merchants) do not want to occupy with the reason that no guests wants to shop at the location provided (Geopark Art Market—Ed),” said Agung Surya Darma, not long ago.

Surya Darma admitted that the space provided is indeed limited. With such conditions, a number of hawkers cannot be accommodated at the location. To get around this, the district government previously indeed provided a schedule for all the merchants to peddle in rotation every three days. However, the effort has not run maximally. “They still do not want to

peddle there, so they return to peddle at Penelokan,” he said.

To find a solution, the village authority previously held a meeting with two groups of merchants namely the Like View and Batur Garden group. He said that based on the results of meeting, the merchants are still allowed to peddle at the location, but only for five merchants. Village authority quibbled if waiting the schedule to peddle every three days it is pity because it has something to do with people’s survival. Based on this consideration, hawkers are still allowed to keep selling at specified amount agreed by village authority.

“Decision of the meeting indeed still allows five people to peddle at Penelokan. However, they are not allowed to leave the box provided and should not pursue guests to peddle their merchandise. Hawkers are not allowed to put their merchandise at the location and they just bring their merchandise by hand. But, we worry if we leave, more and more merchants will come,” he said.

He explained that currently he can only supervise the hawkers. Considering there has been such a policy already made by the local village, his agency did not dare take action too firmly to them.

“Currently, we can only monitor and supervise them while waiting for development at this object scheduled to be worked on this year. If the development has been implemented, there will be a solution to overcome the problem of hawkers. Hopefully, the development will be able to accommodate the hawkers. Thus, it can further simplify the arrangement,” concluded Surya Darma. (nan)

JELEKUNGKANG Waterfall has existed for a long time but has not be well cared for. Last week however people from the community of Jelekungkang hamlet, Tamanbali, Bangli started to arrange the area so that it can be used as a tourist attraction. In order to reach the waterfall, visitors must walk along a narrow pathway along a steep chasm for approximately 2 kilometers. The 25 meters high waterfall can then be appreciated for its pristine water. The path way to the waterfall is now beening opened up to make it easier for people to get to the waterfall.

Initiator of the project of making Jelekungkang waterfall into a tourist destination, I Ketut Purna, explained that they are still cleaning up the path. “ Me and my children and other family members are doing the cleanup” he said, adding that the has enlisted local village youth to accelerate the process.

“They can only come on Sunday when they are not busy with school and other activities” he said.

not finished, children have already been showing up in droves.

“Now children from the village come here almost everyday and sometimes they pitch in with the clean-up” said this man who also helped to make Kuningan Waterfall more accessible. Purna explained that he took it upon himself to make these waterfalls into tourist attractions as a way to help promote the local village. “ Hopefully this waterfall will become a popular attraction and help provide income for the village” he said.

Chief of Jelekungkang customary village, Wayan Wirya, said: “this waterfall is being developed into a tourist attraction based on the personal idea of Mr. Purna. I mself only heard of the idea a few days ago” he said.

Chief Wirya added that he is confident that the customary village can manage the waterfall as a tourist attraction but added that is is not sure if the waterfall will draw many visitors or not. “For the time being, we do not know how the management will be done.

IF things go well, the customary village will take over the management of the tourist attraction. Let’S see how things progress”, added Wirya. (nan)

Fans beg Justin Bieber to cancel dates as fear grips pop’s youth LOS ANGELES - Fans of Justin Bieber pleaded on Tuesday for his upcoming British tour dates to be canceled, underscoring the potential repercussions to music acts with a young fan base from the suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.

Canadian heartthrob Bieber, 23, is due to play an open air concert at London’s Hyde Park in July. But fans flooded social media saying his appearance should be axed for the safety both of fans and the singer himself.

“Cancel Justin’s concert in the UK, please! We want him to be safe, please,” a person using the handle marhrukhh wrote on the Instagram account of Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun.

Braun also manages Grande, also 23, a former Nickelodeon star whose huge female fan base, many of them tweens, were out in force for her concert in Manchester on Monday night when a suicide bombing killed 22 people and injured dozens.

The “Problem” singer flew to Florida on Tuesday to spend time with her family, the Daily Mail website reported. Representatives at Grande’s record company did not return calls on whether the remainder of her world tour, with stops in London and Europe, would go ahead.

Leanne Murray, 20, who lives in Ireland, has tickets to see Bieber play in Dublin next month. But she said that after Monday’s bombing she is contemplating selling them.

“I just don’t want what I would hope to be a great night to end in something like last night,” Murray, who paid 180 Euros ($200) each for two tickets told Reuters.

“It’s frightening to think that it could have been any of us and it really shows that you never know what’s around the corner,” Murray added.

Representatives for Bieber did not immediately respond to Reuters on the status of his upcoming performances.

Touring has been one of the top sources of income for musicians in recent years. The top 10 worldwide tour acts grossed a combined $1.67 billion in 2016, according to music industry publication Pollstar, with Bruce Springsteen bringing in $268.3 million alone. (rtr)

“Due to the tragic events in Manchester the Dangerous Woman

Concert promoter Live Nation said ticket holders will get refunds.

JAKARTA - Indonesia’s anti-terrorism unit raided the home of a suspected suicide bomber on Thursday as authorities linked attacks that killed three police officers at a Jakarta bus station a day earlier to the Islamic State militant group. Six police officers and six civilians were also wounded in the twin blasts set off five minutes apart by two attackers in the Kampung Melayu area of the Indonesian capital late on Wednesday, police said.

The attack was the deadliest in Indonesia since January 2016, when eight people were killed, four of them attackers, after suicide bombers and gunmen attacked the capital. “We must continue to keep calm (and) keep cool. Because ... we Muslims are preparing to enter the month of Ramadan for fasting,” President Joko Widodo said in a statement. Authorities in the world’s biggest Muslimmajority nation are increasingly worried about a surge in radicalism, driven in part by a new generation of militants inspired by Islamic State.

“It’s highly likely it was done by

pro-ISIS people,” Jakarta-based security expert Sidney Jones told media, referring to Islamic State, adding that several groups in Indonesia may have carried out Wednesday’s attack.

National Police spokesman Awi Setyono said there was a link to Islamic State, but added, “We’re still studying whether it’s an international network.” Earlier, he told reporters that police were investigating whether the attackers had direct orders from Syria or elsewhere. A law enforcement source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they may have

been linked to Jemaah Ansharut Daulah, an umbrella organisation on a U.S. State Department “terrorist” list that is estimated to have drawn hundreds of Islamic State sympathisers in Indonesia.
