LOS ANGELES - Pop star Ariana Grande said on Monday she was “broken” five hours after a bombing killed 19 people and wounded dozens of others at her concert in Manchester, England.

and then in Belgium, Poland and Germany in the coming weeks. It was not immediately clear whether those concerts would go forward following Monday’s attack. Grande, who starred in the Broadway musical “13” and on the Nickelodeon TV series Victorious before releasing her solo debut album, is credited with having an exceptionally broad vocal range for a pop star. She is best known for her singles “Problem,” and “Break Free” from her sophomore album, My Everything. (rtr)

she plays the mother of children mysteriously struck with paralysis, which director Yorgos Lanthimos says is a comedy, but plays out much more like a horror film. “I love to be asked to be in those things because that’s just where I am,” Kidman said. “I have always had that slightly rebel spirit where I have gone: ‘I don’t want to conform, I want to find a way not to.’ And that’s just who I am.” The Cannes Film Festival runs until Sunday. Kidman -- whose other Cannes offerings are science fiction teenage film “How to Talk to Girls at Parties”, an episode of Jane Campion’s TV series “Top of the Lake” and “The Beguiled” by Sofia Coppola -said she sought unusual projects. “I want to support people who are trying different things or have a very, very unique filmmaking style,” she said. That certainly applies to “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” in which

CANNES - For an A-list star who, as she says herself, does not have to work, Nicole Kidman has been pretty busy ahead of Cannes, appearing in three movies and a TV series screening at the film festival. “I don’t have to work. I work because it’s still my passion, it’s the way in which I express myself,” she told a news conference after the screening of “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”, one of two Kidman movies competing for the Palme

Making her first comment since an explosion detonated just outside Manchester Arena at the end of her performance there, Grande said on Twitter: “broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don’t have words.” Representatives for Grande have said that the 23-year-old pop star was physically “okay” following the blast, which British authorities say was being treated as a terrorist attack. Two U.S. officials have told Reuters on condition of anonymity that initial signs pointed to a suicide bomber as being responsible for the bombing. Grande was performing in Manchester during the European leg of a concert tour to support her latest album, “Dangerous Woman.” She was scheduled to perform at London’s O2 arena on Thursday

MANCHESTER — For the young crowd of music fans, the Ariana Grande concert was supposed to be a night of high-energy candy pop and fun on a school night. The scene quickly turned into sheer terror when a bomb went off at the end, sending terrified parents into a desperate search for their loved ones. A suicide bomber detonated his explosives as the American singer wrapped up her show Monday night in Manchester for thousands of her so-called Arianators, the name adopted by her fans — many of them teenagers and ‘tweens. Police said children were among the 22 people killed. About 60 others were wounded. Witness spoke of metal nuts and bolts strewn across the blast site, suggesting the attacker may have packed his explosive device with shrapnel — a gruesome tactic to maximize casualties that was also used by suicide bombers in the Paris attacks that killed 130 people in 2015 and repeatedly in the Middle East and elsewhere. Fans, many clutching pink plastic balloons, scrambled in panic for

exits of the 21,000-capacity Manchester Arena. Some half-climbed, half-tumbled over barriers in terror. Parents, who were waiting outside

to pick up their children at the end of the show, waded into the fleeing crowds desperately hunting for loved ones.
