Tourism activities affect coastal pollution Bali Post

DENPASAR - Coastal pollution in Bali is apparently caused by the impact of minimal attention given to the management of coastal tourism areas. All this time, beaches in Bali have always become the target to perform a variety of activities, including the construction of hotels, harbor, recreation and marine tourism spot. A research conducted by the Center for Environmental Research (PPLH) of the Udayana University in 2007 taking samples on three beaches in Bali like Tanjung Benoa, Mertasari and Sanur Mertasari concluded that the quality of sea water in the regions was above the standard. Of the 13 parameters, each of the water had been polluted by heavy metals such as Cadmium (0.0190.026 ppm), Chromium (0.018-0.019 ppm) and Plumbum or lead (0.028-0.034 ppm). Continued on page 6
