Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was described as ‘violent’ in court.
Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine facing minimum 32 years over racketeering and firearms charges
LOS ANGELES - US rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is facing 32 years to life in prison over racketeering and firearms charges. The “violent” defendant was deemed a likely danger to the community and denied bail after a prosecutor told a court there was evidence he directed or participated in multiple acts of violence as part of a gang. Assistant US attorney Michael Longyear said a backpack stolen during a gunpoint robbery in April was found during a raid at the 22year-old’s home in Brooklyn, along with an automatic pistol. He also said 6ix9ine was captured on surveillance video as he sat in a car and filmed the scene in Times Square, where his codefendants allegedly carried out a violent robbery against a rival gang member. “The defendant is quite violent,” the prosecutor said. The rapper has worldwide connections and hundreds of thousands
of dollars and therefore poses a flight risk, Mr Longyear told the court. He is also aware that a conviction would bring a mandatory minimum sentence of 32 years in prison and as much as life, the prosecutor said. Judge Henry B Pitman ordered the rapper to be held until a bail hearing. 6ix9ine was among five people charged in an indictment containing racketeering and firearms charges. His lawyer, Lance Lazzaro, said the rapper - real name Daniel Hernandez - poses no threat and denies directing or playing any other role in violence. Mr Lazzaro said his client had fired some of his co-defendants as part of his management and security team last week. 6ix9ine has seen a huge rise to fame and has become one of the most controversial names in hiphop. Zinta was accused of belittling victims after saying she wished she had faced sexual harassment. “My reason for saying ‘I wish something like this would have happened to me’ in the film industry with a smile was because I would have reacted and slapped the person,” she said. Zinta said she was a “huge supporter of the movement” and claimed that her comments, given in an interview
with entertainment site Bollywood Hungama, were taken out of context. The 43-year-old star of the 2003 hit “Koi Mil Gaya” (Found Someone) added that she herself had been the victim of abuse. “To all the women out there. I’m sorry if I have unintentionally hurt your sentiments on the #MeToo movement,” she said. India’s belated #MeToo movement has seen women share accounts of alleged harassment by several powerful
men in the worlds of Bollywood, business, journalism, politics, comedy and even cricket since gaining traction in late September. The trigger appears to have been actress Tanushree Dutta, who accused well-known Bollywood actor Nana Patekar of inappropriate behaviour on a film set 10 years ago. Since then, a slew of popular Bollywood figures have been accused of sexual misconduct, including Vikas Bahl, Sajid Khan and Alok Nath. All have denied the claims. Last month, M.J. Akbar resigned as India’s junior foreign minister after at least 20 women accused him of sexual harassment during his time as a newspaper editor. Akbar -- who denies the allegations -- is suing one of the complainants, Priya Ramani, for defamation. (afp)

Firefighters battle flames at a burning apartment complex in Paradise, north of Sacramento, California on November 09, 2018. A rapidly spreading, late-season wildfire in northern California has burned 20,000 acres of land and prompted authorities to issue evacuation orders for thousands of people. As many as 1000 homes, a hospital, a Safeway store and scores of other structures have burned in the area as the Camp fire tore through the region.

This number has been fluctuating wildly amid the confusion of the search for bodies in the town of Paradise, which was largely destroyed by the flames. The figure peaked Saturday at 1,276. Another three people died in a second major blaze that struck Malibu in southern California. In the north, the so-called Camp Fire has scorched 153,000 acres of land and destroyed more than 13,500 homes. It started on November 8
and is now 85 percent contained. Crews are preparing to deal with heavy rain forecast for the rest of the week, which will help put out the fire but raises the prospect of flash floods and could wash away human remains. It started raining in the burn area Wednesday night. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said crews will not take off for Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday. Some crews could be kept away if mudslides threaten the burn area.
“But I can assure you that we are going to continue to push forward because this is important work that we’re doing,” Honea said.
