Oscar de la Renta dies at 82 Associated Press
NEW YORK — Oscar de la Renta, the worldly gentleman designer who shaped the wardrobe of socialites, first ladies and Hollywood stars for more than four decades, has died. He was 82. De la Renta died at home Monday evening in Connecticut surrounded by family and friends and “more than a few dogs,” according to a handwritten statement signed by his stepdaughter Eliza Reed Bolen and her husband, Alex Bolen. The statement did not specify a cause of death, but de la Renta had spoken in the past of having cancer. “While our hearts are broken by the idea of life without Oscar, he is still very much with us. Oscar’s hard work, his intelligence and his love of life are at the heart of our company,” the statement said. “All that we have done, and all that we will do, is informed by his values and his spirit. Through Oscar’s example we know the way forward. We will make Oscar very proud of us by continuing in an even stronger way the work that Oscar
loved so much.” The late ‘60s and early ‘70s were a defining moment in U.S. fashion as New York-based designers carved out a look of their own that was finally taken seriously by Europeans. De la Renta and his peers, including the late Bill Blass, Roy Halston and Geoffrey Beene, defined American style — and their influence is still spotted today. De la Renta’s specialty was eveningwear, though he also was known for chic daytime suits favored by the women who would gather at the Four Seasons or Le Cirque at lunchtime. NEW YORK - Pop star Rihanna on Tuesday blasted a television network for wavering on whether to broadcast one of her songs at an American football game, amid a furor over domestic violence. CBS had planned to play Jay-Z’s “Run This Town,” featuring Rihanna, on its Thursday Night Football program pitting the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Baltimore Ravens -- whose star Ray Rice has been banned from the league over knocking out his then fiancee.
As Rihanna was the victim herself of a highly publicized 2009 assault by singer and then-boyfriend Chris Brown, CBS dropped her song from the broadcast -- but later backtracked. “CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, Fuck you!” Rihanna wrote in an early morning tweet. “Y’all are sad for penalizing me for this,” she tweeted. “The audacity.” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus, speaking last week to Sports Illustrated, said the network had made changes amid criticism that the profes-

people’s welfare by developing the concept of community-based tourism. It was expressed by a member of the Badung Tourism
Promotion Board (BPPD), Putu Anom. According to him, the priority in the tourism development should be given to tourist attraction including all the potentials of tourist attraction, both the natural and sociocultural ones spreading across Indonesia that should be packaged to encourage the creative economy of society, especially local communities. Thus, it would provide welfare benefits through the development
of community-based tourism (PIR) concept. “Empowering people and community-based tourism must be supported with the development of tourism infrastructure, including airport, seaport, cruise harbor and roads, so that the tourist attraction in the area can be accessed. It is a major problem hampering the development of tourist destination outside Java and Bali,” he said.
In addition, he said, the tourism facilities such as hotels, cottages, villas, restaurants, MICE facilities and others usually prepared by investors should be based on clear regulation, by remaining to promote the environmental conservation and socio-cultural aspect of local community by providing job opportunities to improve the economy of local communities.
