LOS ANGELES - Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters” reboot has triggered intense debate over its decision to refashion the proton pack-wielding paranormal investigators as an all-female team. For some, the movie has been a feminist rallying cry; for others, a pop culture desecration. It’s also provided ample opportunity for internet trolls to engage in some misogyny. After all the chatter and the gender politics, “Ghostbusters” debuted this weekend to a solid $46 million from 3,962 locations. Sony hailed the results as evidence that audiences were responding to its new take on the decades-old property. But though it ranks as the best debut for a liveaction comedy in over a year, the film

will have to show some endurance, as well as resonate with foreign audiences, to make a profit. After all, dusting off the ectoplasm was expensive, with Sony shelling out $144 million to make “Ghostbusters” and millions more to market the film. That tops what most comedies cost to produce and distribute. JAKARTA - Indonesia on Monday began revaccinating nearly 200 children who received fake versions of imported inoculations from a drugcounterfeiting ring broken up last month after operating for more than a decade. President Joko Widodo urged calm as public uproar intensified over revelations that health officials knew about the syndicate producing the fake vaccines for several years but did little to stop it. The scandal has exposed major weaknesses in the government’s oversight of the health sector, which has expanded rapidly alongside a growing middle class. No illnesses or deaths have been directly linked to the fake vaccines, officials have said. “I want to ask people to stay calm because this incident happened over such a long time,” Widodo told reporters at a Jakarta clinic offering re-vaccinations. “We need more time to investigate so we can get the real data of people who suffered from these fake vaccines.” The ring used stolen vials and forged labels to make the fake medicine look like imported vaccines produced by GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi. State-owned Bio Farma produces nearly all vaccines available in Indonesia. The syndicate sold fake booster vaccines for hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough to at least 14 health facilities in Jakarta and elsewhere on Java island. Health officials said the sham vaccines contained the antibiotic gentamicin and saline solution and were not harmful and made up only 1 percent of total vaccines in Indonesia. Investigators are trying to determine how widely the fake drugs were distributed.

MANGUPURA — Movement of passengers at the Ngurah Rai International Airport during the celebration of the Eid showed an increase. The data at the Eid transport monitoring post during the period of June 24 to July 16 recorded 1,417,092 passengers. The figure consists of 743,329 domestic passengers and 673,763 international passengers both arriving and departing. General Manager of the Ngurah Rai Airport, Trikora Harjo, after the closing of monitoring post of the Eid 1437 H on Sunday (Jul. 17) said that the increase in the number of domestic flight movement occurred on July 10 (day tree after the Eid) amounting to 237 flights or increased six percent from 2015. In the meantime, the movement of international flight occurred on July 9 (day two after the Eid) with 158 flights, an increase of 10 percent from 2015. “Peak of the domestic passenger movement during the period of Eid holidays occurred on July 10, 2016 or on day three after the Eid. This year showed a significant increase in the movement of domestic passengers, where at the peak showed an increase of 19 percent from 2015, reaching 38,130 passengers,” he said. In contrast to domestic passengers, the peak of international passenger movement occurred on July 12 (day five after the Eid) reaching 33,128 passengers, an increase of eight percent from 2015 amounting to 31,364. Trikora added that although the post has been closed, the service to airport users will continue to be improved. “As the management of the Ngurah Rai Airport, we will evaluate in terms of services, facilities, personnel and the standard operating procedures so that in the future we can continue to make improvement and upgrading,” he said. In the meantime, Commander of the Ngurah Rai Air Force Base, Danet Hendriyanto, emphasized that security at the Ngurah Rai Airport is considered to have been running very well. “To anticipate the threat, the entire security force makes cooperation through intensive patrol with the composition of the armed forces in all areas of the airport, air side, terminal area and waters area whose oversight is assisted by the Navy,” he explained. CAPE CANAVERAL - An unmanned SpaceX rocket blasted off from Florida early on Monday to send a cargo ship to the International Space Station, then turned around and landed itself back at the launch site. The 23-story-tall Falcon 9 rocket, built and flown by Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 12:45 a.m. EDT (0445 GMT). Perched on top of the rocket was a Dragon capsule filled with nearly 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) of food, supplies and equipment, including a miniature DNA sequencer, the first to fly in space. Also aboard the capsule was a metal docking ring of diameter 7.8 feet (2.4 m), that will be attached to the station, letting commercial spaceships under development by SpaceX and Boeing Co. ferry astronauts to the station, a $100-billion laboratory that flies about 250 miles (400 km) above Earth. Buleleng needs to increase street lighting SINGARAJA - The potential of traffic accident in Buleleng is quite large compared to other districts. Police considered the condition of road infrastructure mainly street lighting in rural areas has not been optimized. Speaking behind closed doors at a forum in Beijing on Saturday evening, Sun Jianguo, an admiral and Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff Department of the powerful Central Military Commission, said the freedom of navigation issue was a bogus one that certain countries repeatedly hyped up. “When has freedom of navigation in the South China Sea ever been affected? It has not, whether in the past or now, and in the future there won’t be a problem as long as nobody plays tricks,” he said, according to a transcript of his comments seen by Reuters on Monday. China is the biggest beneficiary of freedom of navigation in the South China Sea and won’t let anybody damage it, Sun said. “But China consistently opposes so-called military freedom of navigation which brings with it a military threat, and which challenges and disrespects the international law of the sea,” Sun said. “This kind of military freedom of navigation is damaging to freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, and it could even play out in a disastrous way,” he added, without elaborating. MATARAM - The immigration office in Mataram, the capital of the eastern province of West Nusa Tenggara, has deported 60 foreigners from January to July this year. “Of the total 39 hails from China,” the head of the offices enforcement and surveillance section, Agung Wibowo, said here on Sunday. He said of the 39 deported Chinese citizens 36 were nabbed while working in a coal-fired power project in Sambelia, East Lombok. Three others were caught in the Sekotong tourist area in West Lombok, he said. He said all of the Chinese citizens had been charged with violating Law Number 6 of 2011 on immigration. Agung said other foreigners who were deported in the period were from Germany totaling 6 and three each from England, Switzerland and Russia while the rest from Spain, Italy, Japan and New Zealand. He said all the Chinese nationals would be deported through the Soekarno-Hatta airport while one from Lombok airport. Agung said his office has increased its surveillance on foreigners visiting the region following the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Zone and a free visa facility for citizens from 84 countries.(ant)

CILACAP - Rescuers of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) are still searching for two climbers who had been reported missing during a hike at Mount Slamet, Central Java. Based on the latest report of the rescue operation at Mount Slamet, until 19:30 local time, the two missing climbers were still nowhere to

be found, Coordinator of Basarnas Post in Cilacap Mulwahyono said here on Sunday. Basarnas had deployed a team of rescuers to work with the local search and rescue team on Saturday at 23:00 local time to search the missing climbers. On Sunday evening, the rescue team, divided into four groups,

made camps in several posts to rest before continuing the search on Monday. They will comb the area until the mounts peak to find the missing climbers. “If there is no trails, rescuers will sweep the area below, to the right side towards the Selawe Cave,” Mulwahyono said. ISTANBUL - Turkey widened a crackdown on suspected supporters of a failed military coup on Sunday, taking the number of people rounded up in the armed forces and judiciary to 6,000, and the government said it was in control of the country and economy. President Tayyip Erdogan and the government accused the U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, a former ally whom Erdogan accuses of trying to create a “parallel structure” within the courts, police, armed forces and media, of orchestrating the coup. LONDON - She was once the ponytailed Romanian teenager excited at the thought of owning coloured socks and eating bubble gum yet Nadia Comaneci went on to captivate the world by performing an Olympic feat that continues to stir the emotions four decades later. The ponytail is long gone, the childhood cravings have been replaced by more sophisticated tastes, but no matter where she goes Comaneci cannot escape the memories of what happened on July 18 1976 in Montreal. The day she became the first gymnast to score a perfect 10 at the Olympic Games. “Every time there is a zero in the anniversary, it’s kind of bigger. There was 10, then 20, then 30 and now 40, it seems like a lot of numbers. It’s like half of your life is gone,” Comaneci told Reuters in a telephone interview while on a short holiday in California with her family. “But to realise that it’s 40 years since it happened, it’s like ‘oh my gosh, really?’ “Because it’s the 40th year, I feel like I’ve been celebrating the anniversary the entire year. Everyone I meet this year wants to talk about it.” Those celebrations are set to continue for the next few weeks as Comaneci heads to Montreal on July 21 where her 10-year-old son Dylan will get his first chance to see the Olympic Stadium “where his mom’s name is engraved”. Then it will be on to Rio for the Aug. 5-21 Games. The anniversary will be spent together as a family with Dylan and her husband -- fellow Olympic champion Bart Conner -- and Comaneci’s memory of the occasion remains razor sharp despite the passage of 14,610 days. “I remember when I started to do the compulsory (routine on the uneven bars), I thought I did a pretty good routine but I didn’t think I did my perfect routine,” said the 54-year-old, who now resides in Oklahoma. “I know I didn’t watch the scoreboard as I was already thinking about the balance beam after I finished. “Then I heard the big noise in the arena, I look around, I turned my head and saw the scoreboard. I first saw the 073 which was my competition number and 1.00 score which was under. “I looked at one of my team mates and she shrugged her shoulders, indicating that something was wrong with the scoreboard. Ratchanok had been given a provisional suspension on July 13 after reports that she had failed a dope test during the Uber Cup tournament in China in May. A second sample taken from Ratchanok was sent to Japan for testing and a hearing process by badminton’s governing body began following Ratchanok’s suspension. “The Panel concluded that ... no violation of the regulations was committed,” the BWF said in a statement.

Badminton’s governing body lifted the suspension, allowing Ratchanok to take part in competitions with immediate effect. Two years later, the Barcelona star looks to rebound from that disappointment at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Although the Olympic soccer tournament doesn’t have the same importance of a World Cup, the Rio Games have a special meaning for the Brazilian striker. Neymar will be one of the games’ biggest stars and will carry the responsibility of leading the five-time world champions to their first soccer gold medal. “It’s a unique opportunity,” he said. “Not only for me, but for everyone on the team. We know how important this medal is.” All eyes will be on the 24-yearold striker, who opted to play in the Olympics instead of the Copa America earlier this year. Brazil was eliminated in the group stage of that tournament, a result that prompted the firing of coach Dunga. Because it’s not an official FIFA tournament, teams are not required to release players for the Olympic tournament, but Neymar and the Brazilian soccer confederation negotiated with Barcelona so he could play in Rio. “I know that this gold medal has eluded Brazil so far, and we will do everything to try to win it,” Neymar told Brazilian television recently. “It’s rare that a country like Brazil, considered the land of football, still hasn’t won this gold.” It will be the second time Neymar will play for Brazil at the Olympics. He led the team that lost the 2012 final to Mexico in London, where the Brazilians were the heavy favorites. Brazil was runner-up twice before, in 1984 and 1988. It also won the bronze in 1996 and 2008, the last time with a squad that featured Ronaldinho and future stars like Marcelo and Thiago Silva. “Neymar is special, one of the best players in the world,” said Rogerio Micale, who replaced Dunga as coach of the Olympic team. “Any team can benefit from a player like him. I’m used to it,” Neymar said. “We have another great opportunity to win an Olympic medal, and hopefully this time it will be the gold.” Neymar also had a prominent role at the World Cup in Brazil two years ago, when he played up to expectations until breaking a bone in his back in the quarterfinals against Colombia and missing the rest of the tournament. I just like winning every tournament that I play,” Neymar said. “All of them are important for me.
