‘Ghostbusters’ Debuts to $46 Million, ‘Secret Life of Pets’ Tops Charts

LOS ANGELES - Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters” reboot has triggered intense debate over its decision to refashion the proton pack-wielding paranormal investigators as an all-female team.

For some, the movie has been a feminist rallying cry; for others, a pop culture desecration. It’s also provided ample opportunity for internet trolls to engage in some misogyny.

After all the chatter and the gender politics, “Ghostbusters” debuted this weekend to a solid $46 million from 3,962 locations. Sony hailed the results as evidence that audiences were responding to its new take on the decades-old property. But though it ranks as the best debut for a liveaction comedy in over a year, the film

will have to show some endurance, as well as resonate with foreign audiences, to make a profit. After all, dusting off the ectoplasm was expensive, with Sony shelling out $144 million to make “Ghostbusters” and millions more to market the film. That tops what most comedies cost to produce and distribute.

JAKARTA - Indonesia on Monday began revaccinating nearly 200 children who received fake versions of imported inoculations from a drugcounterfeiting ring broken up last month after operating for more than a decade. President Joko Widodo urged calm as public uproar intensified over revelations that health officials knew about the syndicate producing the fake vaccines for several years but did little to stop it.

The scandal has exposed major weaknesses in the government’s oversight of the health sector, which has expanded rapidly alongside a growing middle class. No illnesses or deaths have been directly linked to the fake vaccines, officials have said.

“I want to ask people to stay calm because this incident happened over such a long time,” Widodo told reporters at a Jakarta clinic offering re-vaccinations. “We need more time to investigate so we can get the real data of people who suffered from these fake vaccines.”

The ring used stolen vials and forged labels to make the fake medicine look like imported vaccines produced by GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi. State-owned Bio Farma produces nearly all vaccines available in Indonesia. The syndicate sold fake booster vaccines for hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough to at least 14 health facilities in Jakarta and elsewhere on Java island.

Health officials said the sham vaccines contained the antibiotic gentamicin and saline solution and were not harmful and made up only 1 percent of total vaccines in Indonesia. Investigators are trying to determine how widely the fake drugs were distributed.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, is clearly designed to trigger a fresh array of sequels.

“There absolutely will be more,” said Josh Greenstein, Sony’s marketing and distribution chief. “This is a restart of one of our most important brands.”

“Let’s keep moving together and struggle for it, so that Presidential Regulation No.51/2014 can immediately be revoked and canceled,”

he continued.

It was also confirmed by Chief of Sanur customary village, I.B. Paramartha. He said that based on the agreement made in the meeting, the Sanur customary village firmly rejected the Benoa Bay reclamation. Based on the experiences, along the Sanur Beach area has got the impact of the Serangan Island reclamation. Therefore, in order not to aggravate the condition along the Sanur Beach with the Benoa Bay reclamation plan, so that with such a reason the Sanur customary village strongly rejected the Benoa Bay reclamation.

In the meantime, chief of Penyaringan customary village, I Made Purna, also revealed the same statement. He said that based on the decision made on May 12, the residents of Penyaringan customary village also firmly united the determination to reject the Benoa Bay reclamation. MANGUPURA — Movement of passengers at the Ngurah Rai International Airport during the celebration of the Eid showed an increase.

The data at the Eid transport monitoring post during the period of June 24 to July 16 recorded 1,417,092 passengers. The figure consists of 743,329 domestic passengers and 673,763 international passengers both arriving and departing.

General Manager of the Ngurah Rai Airport, Trikora Harjo, after the closing of monitoring post of the Eid 1437 H on Sunday (Jul. 17) said that the increase in the number of domestic flight movement occurred on July 10 (day tree after the Eid) amounting to 237 flights or increased six percent from 2015.

In the meantime, the movement of international flight occurred on July 9 (day two after the Eid) with 158 flights, an increase of 10 percent from 2015.

“Peak of the domestic passenger movement during the period of Eid holidays occurred on July 10, 2016 or on day three after the Eid. This year showed a significant increase in the movement of domestic passengers, where at the peak showed an increase of 19 percent from 2015, reaching 38,130 passengers,” he said.

In contrast to domestic passengers, the peak of international passenger movement occurred on July 12 (day five after the Eid) reaching 33,128 passengers, an increase of eight percent from 2015 amounting to 31,364. Trikora added that although the post has been closed, the service to airport users will continue to be improved.

“As the management of the Ngurah Rai Airport, we will evaluate in terms of services, facilities, personnel and the standard operating procedures so that in the future we can continue to make improvement and upgrading,” he said.

In the meantime, Commander of the Ngurah Rai Air Force Base, Danet Hendriyanto, emphasized that security at the Ngurah Rai Airport is considered to have been running very well.

“To anticipate the threat, the entire security force makes cooperation through intensive patrol with the composition of the armed forces in all areas of the airport, air side, terminal area and waters area whose oversight is assisted by the Navy,” he explained. (kmb27)

CAPE CANAVERAL - An unmanned SpaceX rocket blasted off from Florida early on Monday to send a cargo ship to the International Space Station, then turned around and landed itself back at the launch site.

The 23-story-tall Falcon 9 rocket, built and flown by Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 12:45 a.m. EDT (0445 GMT).

Perched on top of the rocket was a Dragon capsule filled with nearly 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) of food, supplies and equipment, including a miniature DNA sequencer, the first to fly in space.

Also aboard the capsule was a metal docking ring of diameter 7.8 feet (2.4 m), that will be attached to the station, letting commercial spaceships under development by SpaceX and Boeing Co. ferry astronauts to the station, a $100-billion laboratory that flies about 250 miles (400 km) above Earth.

The manned craft are scheduled to begin test flights next year.

Since NASA retired its fleet of space shuttles five years ago, the United States has depended on Russia to ferry astronauts to and from the station, at a cost of more than $70 million per person.

As the Dragon cargo ship began its two-day journey to the station, the main section of the Falcon 9 booster rocket separated and flew itself back to the ground, touching down a few miles south of its seaside launch pad, accompanied by a pair of sonic booms.

“Good launch, good landing, Dragon is on its way,” said NASA mission commentator George Diller.

Owned and operated by Musk, the technology entrepreneur who founded Tesla Motors Inc, SpaceX is developing rockets that can be refurbished and re-used, potentially slashing launch costs.

“If it’s an all new airplane, we think that would probably be in the 2024-2025 time frame in terms of when it would be introduced into service,” he said.

Muilenburg spoke with reporters at the beginning of a celebratory weekend of events for an estimated 100,000 employees, families and retirees at Boeing Field in Seattle.

Muilenburg said Boeing is arguably stronger now than at any point in its 100-year history. It has a backlog of 5,700 plane orders, enough to keep its factories humming for six or seven years. (rtr)

Buleleng needs to increase street lighting SINGARAJA - The potential of traffic accident in Buleleng is quite large compared to other districts. Police considered the condition of road infrastructure mainly street lighting in rural areas has not been optimized.

Chief of Buleleng Police Traffic Affairs, I Gede Sumadra Khertiawan, explained that public street lighting is needed when passing at night. Chief of BPD: Investor requested not to be greedy

BEIJING - Freedom of navigation patrols carried out by foreign navies in the South China Sea could end “in disaster”, a senior Chinese admiral has said, a warning to the United States after last week’s ruling against Beijing’s claims in the area.

District administration is also expected to bridge this problem, especially regarding the status of the land ownership. Moreover, there will be an arrangement along the Blatung and Goa Lawah Beach. He expected that building permit (IMB) of all the buildings established in the area could be checked. The arrangement is mainly directed to the buildings hampering the beach view. The area may not be filled with concrete buildings.

“There is also a venue of melasti (purification rite) at the location. So, please do not claim the whole area and do not be too greedy. Let’s do something for the sake of people’s interests and preserve the ancestral heritage so that we will not lose the identity as Balinese,” he explained.

As reported previously, the salt farmers at Blatung hamlet, Pesinggahan, Dawan, recently began to fret. It happened because location of their salt farming is alleged to have been traded by unscrupulous local resident. Actually the salt farmers claim the land occupied for salting location near the Blatung Beach is state land.

Additionally, Suriasih together with Purniasih said to have been given transport fee when invited to the home of the party selling the land. With unclear reason, she was given a transport fee as much as IDR 800,000. More strangely, the provision of such money was not only at that time. After invited to the home of land seller, she was given again more money worth IDR 500,000.

“Frankly speaking, I do not know where to move because as far as I know the salt farming location occupied is the state land,” she concluded. (119)

China has refused to recognise the ruling by an arbitration court in The Hague that invalidated its vast territorial claims in the South China Sea and did not take part in the proceedings brought by the Philippines.

It has reacted angrily to calls by Western countries and Japan for the decision to be adhered to.

China has repeatedly blamed the United States for stirring up trouble in the South China Sea, a strategic waterway through which more than $5 trillion of trade moves annually.

China, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam all have rival claims, of which China’s are the largest.

The United States has conducted freedom of navigation patrols close to Chinese-held islands, to Beijing’s anger, while China has been bolstering its military presence there.

Speaking behind closed doors at a forum in Beijing on Saturday evening, Sun Jianguo, an admiral and Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff Department of the powerful Central Military Commission, said the freedom of navigation issue was a bogus one that certain countries repeatedly hyped up.

“When has freedom of navigation in the South China Sea ever been affected? It has not, whether in the past or now, and in the future there won’t be a problem as long as nobody plays tricks,” he said, according to a transcript of his comments seen

by Reuters on Monday.

China is the biggest beneficiary of freedom of navigation in the South China Sea and won’t let anybody damage it, Sun said.

“But China consistently opposes so-called military freedom of navigation which brings with it a military threat, and which challenges and disrespects the international law of the sea,” Sun said.

“This kind of military freedom of navigation is damaging to freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, and it could even play out in a disastrous way,” he added, without elaborating. China generally describes its exercises in the South China Sea as routine. (rtr)

fee bore fruits to harvest time, the intensity of rain is relatively high.

On the contrary, on particular days the weather turns hot. As a result, the coffee beans approaching the harvest time turn black and fall out. Since knowing this condition due to bad weather, Wardana and other farmers tried to observe this disorder. He estimated that falling out bean reaches five percent per hectare.

“We do not know for sure why the coffee beans ready to harvest suddenly fell out and blackened.

Possibly it happened due to too frequent rain and occasional hot weather so that the coffee bean blackened and fell out,” he said.

In addition to falling out, unfa-

vorable weather has caused the delay to the harvest of Robusta coffee in the region. Until this month, only a few farmers have harvested red coffee bean. Actually based on the experience of harvest season last year, when entering July to August the harvest season is over so that farmers just need to dry out.

Over this condition, farmers can only wait for the coffee harvest and hope the weather to improve immediately. “Here are the only red coffee beans and they are difficult to dry out because it often rains. If this weather condition lasts until August, production and quality of coffee will diminish. Hopefully, the weather improves as we cannot

cope with the weather disturbances.

Besides, we have confidence that our extension officers are unable to give a solution to this problem,” said Wardana.

At a separate location, the Head of the Buleleng Forestry and Plantation Agency, Ketut Nerda, justified the current weather disturbance impeding the picking up of Arabica and Robusta coffee. However, the problem does not only happen to the region, but also in other districts like Tabanan, Bangli, and others, where farmers averagely experience the same condition. “Farmers should not be intimated in such a way. So far, there has been no decision made by the village or chief of customary village to clarify the problem,” said Putu Juliadi, Friday (Jul. 15).

According to Putu Juliadi familiarly addressed as Putu Lembo, formerly the land along the Blatung Beach was state land.

The land was then sharecropped by farmers. Well, having sharecropped it for long time farmer then had desire to make a certificate of the land. Since it cannot be certified, the individual farmer then looked for a lawyer so that the certificate could be issued.

“I do not know whether the lawyer can get the fee from the certification process or how the certification process worked. Now, the farmer having certified the land would like to sell it so that the land claimed by farmers is also claimed by the landowner,” he said.

However, Juliadi questioned whether the national land agency (BPN) can issue a certificate of the land on the Blatung Beach or shoreline of Blatung or whether it is only the right of use. Moreover, as far as his knowledge there are no stakes at the location and clear limits to the south. “We worry if it has been certified to the sea area,” he said.

Obviously, Putu Juliadi wanted the land seller and investor will not intimidate to remove the salt farmers on the Blatung Beach.

As Chief of the BPD, he will summon the parties involved through headman to resolve the problem. But in essence, he remained to support salt farmers to perform their activities there because the presence of salt farmers

HONG KONG - When activists began setting fire to trash bins and hurling bricks at police during a February riot in Hong Kong, Chris Lee became more convinced his decision to leave his siblings and mother behind and move to Taiwan was the right one.

Hong Kong, long known as one of the safest and most lawabiding cities in Asia, has become increasingly polarised with occasional violent protests, fuelled in part by tensions with Communist Party leaders in Beijing over the Chinese-ruled city’s democratic future.

“It’s not just the politics that are messed up,” said Lee, who moved

to Taiwan in March and opened a restaurant. “It is also the people who have become irrational and fickle that drove me to leave.”

Lee is not alone. Some 42 percent of Hong Kong residents want to leave, a survey by independent think tank Civic Exchange showed in June. This compares with 20 percent wanting to leave neighbouring Singapore.

Seventy percent of 1,500 people surveyed said Hong Kong had become “worse” or “much worse” to live in, with the biggest concerns housing, the “quality of government” and education.

The number of Hong Kong people emigrating to Canada almost

doubled in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period last year, and the number moving permanently to Taiwan rose 36 percent over a similar time frame, data shows.

The most recent data from the United States is from 2014 and flat.

Emigration to the UK has declined, but the minimum amount for those seeking to qualify for residency as investors there has also doubled to 2 million pounds ($2.64 million).

Australia doesn’t provide data for Hong Kong but aggregate figures for emigrants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau and Mongolia rose slightly last year. (rtr)

Though he has a low profile outside Asia, Son has long been an unconventional, charismatic visionary in the often closed and clubby world of corporate Japan, turning profits from Japanese telecoms into bets on up-and-coming start-ups.

Not all have been a success: SoftBank’s $22 billion acquisition of a controlling stake in lossmaking Sprint in 2013 has left the group with hefty debts.

SoftBank had interest-bearing debt of 11.9 trillion yen at endMarch, including 4 trillion yen at Sprint, and its net debt currently stands at 3.8 times core earnings.

“SoftBank’s position as an

entity outside the semiconductor industry allows ARM to retain its independence and protect existing customer relationships, while commitment to UK investment ensures management buy-in,” Jefferies analysts said in a note.

“It’s difficult to see other suitors at this stage.”

LOOKING ABROAD The ARM deal is one of Japan’s biggest deals overseas, outranking even Sprint, as SoftBank joins a parade of Japanese companies seeking growth abroad as the domestic economy stagnates.

Softbank has raised nearly 2 trillion yen ($19 billion) in cash over the last few months through asset disposals, according to Son - including the sale of shares in

China’s Alibaba, unusual for a group that has rarely exited investments.

But analysts had expected it to use the cash to reduce debt or give shareholders a windfall by buying back its own shares.

Instead, Son appears to have leapt on the opportunity presented by a battered sterling following Britain’s vote to leave the European Union last month, and a strengthening yen.

Though ARM has warned on the staffing impact of Brexit, its revenues are largely in dollars, and its shares have climbed almost 17 percent since the vote.

Under the offer on Monday, greeted by the UK government as proof that the economy is ‘open for business’, SoftBank said it was

committed to keeping top managers, ARM’s headquarters and to at least double the employee headcount in Britain.

Announcing plans to stay on last month, Son said he wanted to complete the transformation of SoftBank into a tech investment powerhouse. He has focused on what he calls the next ‘paradigm shift’ in technology, which includes artificial intelligence and the internet of things - both increasingly important for ARM as it weathers a smartphone slowdown.

This year ARM bought UK imaging specialist Apical, which specialises in technology to allow computers to analyse images - replicating human vision using software.(rtr)

Under the offer backed by ARM’s board, Softbank will pay 17 pounds for every ARM share - a premium of more than 40 percent to Friday’s close. ARM shares surged nearly 43 percent to 16.99 pounds by 0820 GMT. “This is one of the most important acquisitions we have ever made, and I expect ARM to be a key pillar of SoftBank’s growth strategy going forward,” Son said in the statement. The acquisition is the first for Son, 58, since he last month rescinded plans to retire - effectively pushing out his heir apparent, former Google executive Nikesh Arora.

Son, whose lucrative early investments include Alibaba, said then that he wanted to “cement SoftBank 2.0”, turn around loss-making U.S.

MATARAM - The immigration office in Mataram, the capital of the eastern province of West Nusa Tenggara, has deported 60 foreigners from January to July this year. “Of the total 39 hails from China,” the head of the offices enforcement and surveillance section, Agung Wibowo, said here on Sunday.

He said of the 39 deported Chinese citizens 36 were nabbed while working in a coal-fired power project in Sambelia, East Lombok. Three others were caught in the Sekotong tourist area in West Lombok, he said.

He said all of the Chinese citizens had been charged with violating Law Number 6 of 2011 on immigration.

Agung said other foreigners who were deported in the period were from Germany totaling 6 and three each from England, Switzerland and Russia while the rest from Spain, Italy, Japan and New Zealand.

He said all the Chinese nationals would be deported through the Soekarno-Hatta airport while one from Lombok airport.

Agung said his office has increased its surveillance on foreigners visiting the region following the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Zone and a free visa facility for citizens from 84 countries.(ant)

JAKARTA - Alleged leak from the presidential office of information about new cabinet line up amid unconfirmed reports of planned cabinet reshuffle is feared to lit energy wasting controversy, an expert in information system security said.

He said 90 percent of the equipment for the security system of information in state institutions in Indonesia including in the state palace is imported. He suggested auditing of the security of information system in the palace.

“There should be regular main-

tenance of the system at the state palace . There should be routine evaluation,” he said.

He acknowledged that the leaks may not be anything to do with the technology as some officials responsible for the security of information may not have enough sensitivity to the importance of confidential information.(ant)

Rescuers still searching two missing climbers at Mount Slamet

CILACAP - Rescuers of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) are still searching for two climbers who had been reported missing during a hike at Mount Slamet, Central Java.

Based on the latest report of the rescue operation at Mount Slamet, until 19:30 local time, the two missing climbers were still nowhere to

be found, Coordinator of Basarnas Post in Cilacap Mulwahyono said here on Sunday.

Basarnas had deployed a team of rescuers to work with the local search and rescue team on Saturday at 23:00 local time to search the missing climbers.

On Sunday evening, the rescue team, divided into four groups,

made camps in several posts to rest before continuing the search on Monday. They will comb the area until the mounts peak to find the missing climbers.

“If there is no trails, rescuers will sweep the area below, to the right side towards the Selawe Cave,” Mulwahyono said.

The two climbers, namely Riza

(16) and Anwar (17), residents of Kedawung Village, Bojong Subdistrict of Tegal District, were reported missing on Saturday.

The two began a late ascent to Mount Slamet (3,428 masl) on Thursday afternoon to catch up the first group who had started to climb earlier in the morning.

However, due to torrential rain at

the second highest volcano in Java Island after Mount Semeru, the first group decided not to continue the climb and descended. Meanwhile, Riza and Anwar were reported to camp due to the bad weather.

On Friday, the family of Riza and Anwar lost contact with the two that they filed a report to Basarnas on the next day.(ant)

Ex-U.S. Marine kills 3 policemen in racially tense Baton Rouge BATON ROUGE - A decorated ex-U.S. Marine sergeant opened fire on police in Baton Rouge on Sunday, killing three officers, nearly two weeks after the fatal police shooting of a black man there sparked nationwide protests, one of them shattered by the massacre of five Dallas policemen.

The Baton Rouge suspect, dressed in black and armed with a rifle, was himself shot to death minutes later in a gunfight with police who converged on the scene of a confrontation that Mayor Kip Holden said began as an “ambush-style” attack on officers.

Two Baton Rouge Police Department officers and one sheriff’s deputy were killed, and one sheriff’s deputy was critically wounded.

Another police officer and one other deputy suffered less severe wounds and were expected to survive.

Colonel Mike Edmonson, superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, told a news conference the gunman was believed to have acted alone, contrary to early reports that police may have been looking for other shooters.

Sunday’s bloodshed followed days of unrest over the police killings of two black men under questionable circumstances earlier this month - Alton Sterling, 37, in Baton Rouge on July 5, and Philando Castile, 32, near St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 6.

Police did not name the suspect. But a U.S. government official told Reuters the gunman was identified as Gavin Long, of Kansas City, Missouri. Long, who was black, was reported by other media to be 29 years old. (rtr)

Arrests hit 6,000 as Turkey cracks down on army and judges after coup bid

ISTANBUL - Turkey widened a crackdown on suspected supporters of a failed military coup on Sunday, taking the number of people rounded up in the armed forces and judiciary to 6,000, and the government said it was in control of the country and economy.

President Tayyip Erdogan and the government accused the U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, a former ally whom Erdogan accuses of trying to create a “parallel structure” within the courts, police, armed forces and media, of orchestrating the coup.

Erdogan’s supporters of gathered in front of his Istanbul home to call for the plotters to face the death penalty, which Turkey outlawed in 2004 as part of its efforts to join the European Union.

“We cannot ignore this demand,” Erdogan told the chanting crowd. “In democracies, whatever the people say has to happen.”

He said a “terror group” led by Gulen had “ruined” the armed forces, that its members were being arrested in all military ranks, and that a purge

of this “virus” would continue.

Gulen denied any connection with the coup.

The president has called on Turks to stay on the streets until Friday, and late into Sunday night, his supporters thronged squares and streets, honking horns and waving flags.

Pictures on social media showed detained soldiers stripped to the waist, some wearing only their underpants, handcuffed and lying packed together on the floor of a sports hall where they were being held in Ankara.

One video posted on Twitter showed detained generals with bruises and bandages. Akin Ozturk, head of the air force until 2015 and identified by three senior officials as one of the suspected masterminds of the coup plot, was among those

held.

The Foreign Ministry raised the death toll to more than 290, including over 100 rebels, and said 1,400 people were hurt.

The violence shocked the nation of almost 80 million, once seen as a model Muslim democracy, where living standards have risen steadily for more than a decade and where the army last used force to stage a successful coup more than 30 years ago.

It also shattered fragile confidence among Turkey’s allies about security in the NATO country, which is a leading member of the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State. Turkey had already been hit by repeated suicide bombings over the past year and is struggling to contain an insurgency by Kurdish separatists. (rtr)

The president has ordered an overhaul of the food and drug monitoring agency.

One mother, Rina Herlina Sari, told Reuters she no longer trusted private clinics. “The government should revoke their permits,” she said after her baby daughter got a re-vaccination at a government health centre in Jakarta’s outskirts.

Reuters reporters visited the clinic accused of giving Sari’s daughter, and other children, fake vaccines, and found it operating. Its main midwife had been arrested but other staff were working.

“The overall facility is a health facility with other areas of care so we have to allow it to continue,” Agung Setya, director of criminal police investigations, told Reuters. “It is up to the health ministry to decide whether to shut it down.”(rtr)

LONDON - She was once the ponytailed Romanian teenager excited at the thought of owning coloured socks and eating bubble gum yet Nadia Comaneci went on to captivate the world by performing an Olympic feat that continues to stir the emotions four decades later.

The ponytail is long gone, the childhood cravings have been replaced by more sophisticated tastes, but no matter where she goes Comaneci cannot escape the memories of what happened on July 18 1976 in Montreal.

The day she became the first gymnast to score a perfect 10 at the Olympic Games.

“Every time there is a zero in the anniversary, it’s kind of bigger.

There was 10, then 20, then 30 and now 40, it seems like a lot of numbers. It’s like half of your life is gone,” Comaneci told Reuters in a telephone interview while on a short holiday in California with her family.

“But to realise that it’s 40 years since it happened, it’s like ‘oh my gosh, really?’

“Because it’s the 40th year, I feel like I’ve been celebrating the anniversary the entire year. Everyone I meet this year wants to talk about it.”

Those celebrations are set to continue for the next few weeks as Comaneci heads to Montreal on July 21 where her 10-year-old son Dylan will get his first chance to see the Olympic Stadium “where his mom’s name is engraved”.

Then it will be on to Rio for the Aug. 5-21 Games.

The anniversary will be spent together as a family with Dylan and her husband -- fellow Olympic champion Bart Conner -- and Comaneci’s memory of the occasion remains razor sharp despite the passage of 14,610 days.

“I remember when I started to do the compulsory (routine on the uneven bars), I thought I did a pretty good routine but I didn’t think I did my perfect routine,” said the 54-year-old, who now resides in Oklahoma.

“I know I didn’t watch the scoreboard as I was already thinking about the balance beam after I finished.

“Then I heard the big noise in the arena, I look around, I turned my head and saw the scoreboard. I first saw the 073 which was my competition number and 1.00 score which was under.

“I looked at one of my team mates and she shrugged her shoulders, indicating that something was wrong with the scoreboard. It all happened so fast.” (rtr)

Ratchanok had been given a provisional suspension on July 13 after reports that she had failed a dope test during the Uber Cup tournament in China in May. A second sample taken from Ratchanok was sent to Japan for testing and a hearing process by badminton’s governing body began following Ratchanok’s suspension.

“The Panel concluded that ... no violation of the regulations was committed,” the BWF said in a statement.

Badminton’s governing body lifted the suspension, allowing Ratchanok to take part in competitions with immediate effect.

At a news conference in Bangkok on Monday, Ratchanok said she was happy to have been proven innocent.

Although the Olympic soccer tournament doesn’t have the same importance of a World Cup, the Rio Games have a special meaning for the Brazilian striker. Neymar will be one of the games’ biggest stars and will carry the responsibility of leading the five-time world champions to their first soccer gold medal. “It’s a unique opportunity,” he said. “Not only for me, but for everyone on the team. We know how important this medal is.”

All eyes will be on the 24-yearold striker, who opted to play in the Olympics instead of the Copa America earlier this year. Brazil was eliminated in the group stage of that tournament, a result that prompted the firing of coach Dunga.

Because it’s not an official FIFA tournament, teams are not required to release players for the Olympic tournament, but Neymar and the Brazilian soccer confederation negotiated with Barcelona so he could play in Rio. “I know that this gold medal has eluded Brazil so far, and we will do everything to try to win it,” Neymar told Brazilian television recently.

“It’s rare that a country like Brazil, considered the land of football, still hasn’t won this gold.”

It will be the second time Neymar will play for Brazil at the Olympics. He led the team that lost the 2012 final to Mexico in London, where the Brazilians were the heavy favorites. Brazil was runner-up twice before, in 1984 and 1988. It also won the bronze in 1996 and 2008, the last time with a squad that featured Ronaldinho and future stars like Marcelo and Thiago Silva.

Ex-U.S. Marine kills 3 policemen in racially tense Baton Rouge BATON ROUGE - A decorated ex-U.S. Marine sergeant opened fire on police in Baton Rouge on Sunday, killing three officers, nearly two weeks after the fatal police shooting of a black man there sparked nationwide protests, one of them shattered by the massacre of five Dallas policemen.

The Baton Rouge suspect, dressed in black and armed with a rifle, was himself shot to death minutes later in a gunfight with police who converged on the scene of a confrontation that Mayor Kip Holden said began as an “ambush-style” attack on officers.

Two Baton Rouge Police Department officers and one sheriff’s deputy were killed, and one sheriff’s deputy was critically wounded.

Another police officer and one other deputy suffered less severe wounds and were expected to survive.

Colonel Mike Edmonson, superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, told a news conference the gunman was believed to have acted alone, contrary to early reports that police may have been looking for other shooters.

Sunday’s bloodshed followed days of unrest over the police killings of two black men under questionable circumstances earlier this month - Alton Sterling, 37, in Baton Rouge on July 5, and Philando Castile, 32, near St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 6.

Police did not name the suspect. But a U.S. government official told Reuters the gunman was identified as Gavin Long, of Kansas City, Missouri. Long, who was black, was reported by other media to be 29 years old. (rtr)

Arrests hit 6,000 as Turkey cracks down on army and judges after coup bid

ISTANBUL - Turkey widened a crackdown on suspected supporters of a failed military coup on Sunday, taking the number of people rounded up in the armed forces and judiciary to 6,000, and the government said it was in control of the country and economy.

President Tayyip Erdogan and the government accused the U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, a former ally whom Erdogan accuses of trying to create a “parallel structure” within the courts, police, armed forces and media, of orchestrating the coup.

Erdogan’s supporters of gathered in front of his Istanbul home to call for the plotters to face the death penalty, which Turkey outlawed in 2004 as part of its efforts to join the European Union.

“We cannot ignore this demand,” Erdogan told the chanting crowd. “In democracies, whatever the people say has to happen.”

He said a “terror group” led by Gulen had “ruined” the armed forces, that its members were being arrested in all military ranks, and that a purge

of this “virus” would continue.

Gulen denied any connection with the coup.

The president has called on Turks to stay on the streets until Friday, and late into Sunday night, his supporters thronged squares and streets, honking horns and waving flags.

Pictures on social media showed detained soldiers stripped to the waist, some wearing only their underpants, handcuffed and lying packed together on the floor of a sports hall where they were being held in Ankara.

One video posted on Twitter showed detained generals with bruises and bandages. Akin Ozturk, head of the air force until 2015 and identified by three senior officials as one of the suspected masterminds of the coup plot, was among those

held.

The Foreign Ministry raised the death toll to more than 290, including over 100 rebels, and said 1,400 people were hurt.

The violence shocked the nation of almost 80 million, once seen as a model Muslim democracy, where living standards have risen steadily for more than a decade and where the army last used force to stage a successful coup more than 30 years ago.

It also shattered fragile confidence among Turkey’s allies about security in the NATO country, which is a leading member of the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State. LOOKING ABROAD The ARM deal is one of Japan’s biggest deals overseas, outranking even Sprint, as SoftBank joins a parade of Japanese companies seeking growth abroad as the domestic economy stagnates.

Softbank has raised nearly 2 trillion yen ($19 billion) in cash over the last few months through asset disposals, according to Son - including the sale of shares in

China’s Alibaba, unusual for a group that has rarely exited investments.

But analysts had expected it to use the cash to reduce debt or give shareholders a windfall by buying back its own shares.

Instead, Son appears to have leapt on the opportunity presented by a battered sterling following Britain’s vote to leave the European Union last month, and a strengthening yen.

Though ARM has warned on the staffing impact of Brexit, its revenues are largely in dollars, and its shares have climbed almost 17 percent since the vote.

Under the offer on Monday, greeted by the UK government as proof that the economy is ‘open for business’, SoftBank said it was

committed to keeping top managers, ARM’s headquarters and to at least double the employee headcount in Britain.

Announcing plans to stay on last month, Son said he wanted to complete the transformation of SoftBank into a tech investment powerhouse. He has focused on what he calls the next ‘paradigm shift’ in technology, which includes artificial intelligence and the internet of things - both increasingly important for ARM as it weathers a smartphone slowdown.

MATARAM - The immigration office in Mataram, the capital of the eastern province of West Nusa Tenggara, has deported 60 foreigners from January to July this year. “Of the total 39 hails from China,” the head of the offices enforcement and surveillance section, Agung Wibowo, said here on Sunday.

He said of the 39 deported Chinese citizens 36 were nabbed while working in a coal-fired power project in Sambelia, East Lombok. Three others were caught in the Sekotong tourist area in West Lombok, he said.

He said all of the Chinese citizens had been charged with violating Law Number 6 of 2011 on immigration.

Agung said other foreigners who were deported in the period were from Germany totaling 6 and three each from England, Switzerland and Russia while the rest from Spain, Italy, Japan and New Zealand.

He said all the Chinese nationals would be deported through the Soekarno-Hatta airport while one from Lombok airport.

Agung said his office has increased its surveillance on foreigners visiting the region following the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Zone and a free visa facility for citizens from 84 countries.(ant)

Rescuers still searching two missing climbers at Mount Slamet

CILACAP - Rescuers of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) are still searching for two climbers who had been reported missing during a hike at Mount Slamet, Central Java.

Based on the latest report of the rescue operation at Mount Slamet, until 19:30 local time, the two missing climbers were still nowhere to

be found, Coordinator of Basarnas Post in Cilacap Mulwahyono said here on Sunday.

Basarnas had deployed a team of rescuers to work with the local search and rescue team on Saturday at 23:00 local time to search the missing climbers.

On Sunday evening, the rescue team, divided into four groups,

made camps in several posts to rest before continuing the search on Monday. They will comb the area until the mounts peak to find the missing climbers.

“If there is no trails, rescuers will sweep the area below, to the right side towards the Selawe Cave,” Mulwahyono said.

The two climbers, namely Riza

(16) and Anwar (17), residents of Kedawung Village, Bojong Subdistrict of Tegal District, were reported missing on Saturday.

The two began a late ascent to Mount Slamet (3,428 masl) on Thursday afternoon to catch up the first group who had started to climb earlier in the morning.

However, due to torrential rain at

the second highest volcano in Java Island after Mount Semeru, the first group decided not to continue the climb and descended. Meanwhile, Riza and Anwar were reported to camp due to the bad weather.

“When has freedom of navigation in the South China Sea ever been affected? It has not, whether in the past or now, and in the future there won’t be a problem as long as nobody plays tricks,” he said, according to a transcript of his comments seen

by Reuters on Monday.

China is the biggest beneficiary of freedom of navigation in the South China Sea and won’t let anybody damage it, Sun said.

“But China consistently opposes so-called military freedom of navigation which brings with it a military threat, and which challenges and disrespects the international law of the sea,” Sun said.

“This kind of military freedom of navigation is damaging to freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, and it could even play out in a disastrous way,” he added, without elaborating. China generally describes its exercises in the South China Sea as routine. (rtr)

However, Juliadi questioned whether the national land agency (BPN) can issue a certificate of the land on the Blatung Beach or shoreline of Blatung or whether it is only the right of use. Moreover, as far as his knowledge there are no stakes at the location and clear limits to the south. “We worry if it has been certified to the sea area,” he said.

Obviously, Putu Juliadi wanted the land seller and investor will not intimidate to remove the salt farmers on the Blatung Beach.

HONG KONG - When activists began setting fire to trash bins and hurling bricks at police during a February riot in Hong Kong, Chris Lee became more convinced his decision to leave his siblings and mother behind and move to Taiwan was the right one.

Hong Kong, long known as one of the safest and most lawabiding cities in Asia, has become increasingly polarised with occasional violent protests, fuelled in part by tensions with Communist Party leaders in Beijing over the Chinese-ruled city’s democratic future.

“It’s not just the politics that are messed up,” said Lee, who moved

to Taiwan in March and opened a restaurant. “It is also the people who have become irrational and fickle that drove me to leave.”

Lee is not alone. Some 42 percent of Hong Kong residents want to leave, a survey by independent think tank Civic Exchange showed in June. This compares with 20 percent wanting to leave neighbouring Singapore.

Seventy percent of 1,500 people surveyed said Hong Kong had become “worse” or “much worse” to live in, with the biggest concerns housing, the “quality of government” and education.

The number of Hong Kong people emigrating to Canada almost

doubled in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period last year, and the number moving permanently to Taiwan rose 36 percent over a similar time frame, data shows.

The most recent data from the United States is from 2014 and flat.

Emigration to the UK has declined, but the minimum amount for those seeking to qualify for residency as investors there has also doubled to 2 million pounds ($2.64 million).

The 23-story-tall Falcon 9 rocket, built and flown by Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 12:45 a.m. EDT (0445 GMT).

Perched on top of the rocket was a Dragon capsule filled with nearly 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) of food, supplies and equipment, including a miniature DNA sequencer, the first to fly in space.

Also aboard the capsule was a metal docking ring of diameter 7.8 feet (2.4 m), that will be attached to the station, letting commercial spaceships under development by SpaceX and Boeing Co. ferry astronauts to the station, a $100-billion laboratory that flies about 250 miles (400 km) above Earth.

The manned craft are scheduled to begin test flights next year.

Since NASA retired its fleet of space shuttles five years ago, the United States has depended on Russia to ferry astronauts to and from the station, at a cost of more than $70 million per person.

As the Dragon cargo ship began its two-day journey to the station, the main section of the Falcon 9 booster rocket separated and flew itself back to the ground, touching down a few miles south of its seaside launch pad, accompanied by a pair of sonic booms.

“Good launch, good landing, Dragon is on its way,” said NASA mission commentator George Diller.

Owned and operated by Musk, the technology entrepreneur who founded Tesla Motors Inc, SpaceX is developing rockets that can be refurbished and re-used, potentially slashing launch costs.

Muilenburg spoke with reporters at the beginning of a celebratory weekend of events for an estimated 100,000 employees, families and retirees at Boeing Field in Seattle.

Buleleng needs to increase street lighting SINGARAJA - The potential of traffic accident in Buleleng is quite large compared to other districts. Police considered the condition of road infrastructure mainly street lighting in rural areas has not been optimized.

Chief of Buleleng Police Traffic Affairs, I Gede Sumadra Khertiawan, explained that public street lighting is needed when passing at night. MANGUPURA — Movement of passengers at the Ngurah Rai International Airport during the celebration of the Eid showed an increase.

The data at the Eid transport monitoring post during the period of June 24 to July 16 recorded 1,417,092 passengers. The figure consists of 743,329 domestic passengers and 673,763 international passengers both arriving and departing.

General Manager of the Ngurah Rai Airport, Trikora Harjo, after the closing of monitoring post of the Eid 1437 H on Sunday (Jul. 17) said that the increase in the number of domestic flight movement occurred on July 10 (day tree after the Eid) amounting to 237 flights or increased six percent from 2015.

In the meantime, the movement of international flight occurred on July 9 (day two after the Eid) with 158 flights, an increase of 10 percent from 2015.

“Peak of the domestic passenger movement during the period of Eid holidays occurred on July 10, 2016 or on day three after the Eid. This year showed a significant increase in the movement of domestic passengers, where at the peak showed an increase of 19 percent from 2015, reaching 38,130 passengers,” he said.

In contrast to domestic passengers, the peak of international passenger movement occurred on July 12 (day five after the Eid) reaching 33,128 passengers, an increase of eight percent from 2015 amounting to 31,364. Trikora added that although the post has been closed, the service to airport users will continue to be improved.

“As the management of the Ngurah Rai Airport, we will evaluate in terms of services, facilities, personnel and the standard operating procedures so that in the future we can continue to make improvement and upgrading,” he said.

In the meantime, Commander of the Ngurah Rai Air Force Base, Danet Hendriyanto, emphasized that security at the Ngurah Rai Airport is considered to have been running very well.

“To anticipate the threat, the entire security force makes cooperation through intensive patrol with the composition of the armed forces in all areas of the airport, air side, terminal area and waters area whose oversight is assisted by the Navy,” he explained. (kmb27)

LOS ANGELES - Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters” reboot has triggered intense debate over its decision to refashion the proton pack-wielding paranormal investigators as an all-female team.

For some, the movie has been a feminist rallying cry; for others, a pop culture desecration. It’s also provided ample opportunity for internet trolls to engage in some misogyny.

After all the chatter and the gender politics, “Ghostbusters” debuted this weekend to a solid $46 million from 3,962 locations. Sony hailed the results as evidence that audiences were responding to its new take on the decades-old property. But though it ranks as the best debut for a liveaction comedy in over a year, the film

will have to show some endurance, as well as resonate with foreign audiences, to make a profit. After all, dusting off the ectoplasm was expensive, with Sony shelling out $144 million to make “Ghostbusters” and millions more to market the film. That tops what most comedies cost to produce and distribute.

JAKARTA - Indonesia on Monday began revaccinating nearly 200 children who received fake versions of imported inoculations from a drugcounterfeiting ring broken up last month after operating for more than a decade. President Joko Widodo urged calm as public uproar intensified over revelations that health officials knew about the syndicate producing the fake vaccines for several years but did little to stop it.

The scandal has exposed major weaknesses in the government’s oversight of the health sector, which has expanded rapidly alongside a growing middle class. No illnesses or deaths have been directly linked to the fake vaccines, officials have said.

“I want to ask people to stay calm because this incident happened over such a long time,” Widodo told reporters at a Jakarta clinic offering re-vaccinations. “We need more time to investigate so we can get the real data of people who suffered from these fake vaccines.”

The ring used stolen vials and forged labels to make the fake medicine look like imported vaccines produced by GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi. State-owned Bio Farma produces nearly all vaccines available in Indonesia. The syndicate sold fake booster vaccines for hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough to at least 14 health facilities in Jakarta and elsewhere on Java island.

Health officials said the sham vaccines contained the antibiotic gentamicin and saline solution and were not harmful and made up only 1 percent of total vaccines in Indonesia. Investigators are trying to determine how widely the fake drugs were distributed.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, is clearly designed to trigger a fresh array of sequels.

“There absolutely will be more,” said Josh Greenstein, Sony’s marketing and distribution chief. “This is a restart of one of our most important brands.”

The audience for the film skewed female, with women making up 54% of ticket buyers. It also resonated more strongly with older crowds, weaned on the 1984 original and its 1989 sequel, as 55% of the audience clocked in over the age of 25.
