This isn’t the lineup for an upcoming pop concert, but rather for Sunday’s Academy Awards.

“We want to entertain,” said Neil Meron, producing his third consecutive Oscar ceremony with Craig Zadan. “And there’s no better entertainment than to do it with music.” Host Neil Patrick Harris will perform an original song by the Oscar-winning writers behind “Let It Go,” the producers said. Called “Moving Pictures,” the musical number will set a “subliminal theme” for the evening, Meron said.

“It really is celebratory about movies and yet it’s kind of cheeky in a way,” he said. “But yet it has a beautiful musical motif which... we integrate throughout the show as kind of a call-back theme.”

Added Zadan: “We didn’t want to do a musical number that could have been on the Tonys, or anywhere else for that matter.” “It’s a multimedia musical number,” he said, “something that we’ve not done before.”

Music is part of the production pair’s professional DNA, though. The two produced the “The Sound of Music” and “Peter Pan” live TV specials, as well as the movie musicals “Hairspray” and “Chicago,” which won the best picture Oscar in 2003.

The producers said they started booking musical acts even before they learned the year’s nominees. But they were delighted with the nominated original songs.

“We were smiled upon in that respect,” Meron said.

A spate of stars will bring those songs to life on the Oscar stage.

Common and Legend are set to perform their song, “Glory,” from “Selma.” Levine will sing “Lost Stars” from “Begin Again.” Ora will take on Diane Warren’s song from “Beyond the Lights,” ‘’Grateful.” Tegan & Sara will join with The Lonely Island for “The Lego Movie” song, “Everything is Awesome.” McGraw will perform Glen Campbell’s song “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” from the documentary about his struggle with Alzheimer’s, “Glen Campbell... I’ll Be Me.” The producers wouldn’t say what Hudson, Gaga and other entertainers, including Jack Black and Anna Kendrick, will sing. Suspense about their performances will have to stand in for the lack of suspense for most of the acting categories. Patricia Arquette of “Boyhood” and J.K. Simmons of “Whiplash” have locked up supportingactor awards all season, and Julianne Moore is shoo-in for the best-actress Oscar for “Still Alice.”

The lead actor competition has some excitement, with Michael Keaton of “Birdman” and Eddie Redmayne of “The Theory of Everything” splitting many of the early honors.

“Birdman” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” lead all nominees with nine bids apiece, including best picture, director, cinematography and original screenplay. Also up for best picture are “American Sniper,” ‘’Boyhood,” ‘’The Imitation Game,” ‘’The Theory of Everything,” ‘’Selma” and “Whiplash.”

Among the highlights of last year’s top-rated ceremony was host Ellen DeGeneres’ surprise pizza delivery and superstar-selfie moment. Meron and Zadan wouldn’t say what antics are planned this year \ if they’re planned at all. (ap)

NEW YORK - Pharrell Williams has a “Happy” deal for a series of children’s picture books.

The Grammy Awardwinning performer has an agreement with Putnam Books for Young Readers for four picture books, starting with one inspired by his hit song.

Putnam announced Tuesday the book, “Happy,” will be published Sept. 22 and will feature photographs of children from around the world “celebrating what it means to be happy.” It plans a first printing of 250,000 copies.

Pharrell has won 10 Grammys, including two for “Happy.”

“Happy” was featured on the soundtrack of “Despicable Me 2” and was an Oscar nominee last year for best song. (ap)

Security tightened around Denpasar`s Kerobokan Prison

DENPASAR - Bali Police, on Tuesday, beefed up security arrangements around has stated that they would be transferred this Kerobokan prison in Denpasar in the run up to the relocation of the two Australian week.

Bali Police spokesman Senior Commissioner death row convicts Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan.

Based on observation on Tuesday, ten policemen and several others in plainclothes were seen on guard around the prison.

During regular days, only two policemen are seen patrolling the prison, but on Tuesday, the number was significantly high ahead of the

transfer of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan out of Bali.

There were no signs as to when the two Australian death row convicts would be transferred to Nusakambangan Island in Central Java, although Bali`s High Prosecutor`s Office

Hery Wiyanto noted that the security around the prison was increased, but he did not reveal details about when the two convicts would be transferred.

“When they will be transferred is not our authority. We are only in charge of securing the transfer process,” he added. (ant)

Badung assesses four traditional markets to be unprofitable

Mangupura — Being unable to increase revenue, the Badung government through the Regional Enterprise, (PD) Pasar Badung, is going to review the segmentation of the four traditional markets in the region. The four markets included the Kertasari Market, Petang Market, Sembung Market, and Kapal Market.

It was expressed by Managing Director of PD Pasar Badung, I Made Sutarma, Monday (Feb 16).

According to him, his party managed nine units of market plus one business unit spreading from Petang to Nusa Dua. “Of the nine units, we know from the financial statement if two units have suffered losses, namely the Kertasari and Petang Market, while two other markets could only cover their operating costs, namely the Sembung and Kapal Market,” he said.

The income of the PD Pasar Badung, recognized Made Sutarma, relied on five traditional markets, namely the Cattle Market and Public Market at Beringkit, Kuta Market I and II as well as Nusa Dua Market. “Now, we are only relying on five markets remaining surplus to finance the regional enterprise.

We have to deposit 55 percent of the net profit after tax for a year to regionally generated revenue (PAD). Meanwhile, the remaining 45 percent is managed as produc-

tion service and social fund as well as others,” he explained.

The constraints faced in developing the traditional markets in Badung, said Made Sutarma, happened due to less representative location and the invasion of modern markets that flourished to every nook and cranny of villages so that they made traditional markets go bankrupt.

“Meanwhile, our strategy will make innovation in terms of market segmentation, especially for the

Latu Market. Later on, based on our studies we will change the market segmentation from general market, for example, to special market that is still affordable,” he said.

As mentioned, the Kertasari Market was planned to be transformed into specific market, such as fruit market, where all the fruits on offer were required by Badung people and could be found in the market. “Or it may be used as a flea market, so that the Badung community is no longer necessary to go to Denpasar when looking for junks. However, it must definitely be studied first which option is appropriate and can soon produce,” he said.

He added the Petang Market would remain to be functioned as a general market providing daily needs for Badung people. However, the market would continue to be promoted so that it could become a mainstay. “If at Kapal there has a special market, it just needs to rearrange. Meanwhile, the Sembung Market will be functioned to sell daily needs of local community as the Petang Market,” he concluded.

To note, the revenue target of the PD Pasar Badung in 2014 reached IDR 12,736,475,216 with realization of IDR 12,236,237,148.98.

Meanwhile, the target revenue in 2015 was set at IDR 14, 047,906,354.64. (kmb37)

Favorite schools overcapacity, private schools languishes

Tabanan — Some schools in Tabanan County are considered to have been overcapacity of students. If such condition is allowed to continue, it is feared to disrupt the learning process for students. By and large, the overcapacity schools occur at favorite junior or high schools. Surely the condition makes private schools suffer and go out of business due to lack of students.

A member of Tabanan Education Council, Wayan Kawi, said that ideally a classroom accommodated 20 to 38 students. However, in reality public schools apparently forced themselves to accommodate students as many as possible. As a result, the schools labeled as favorite ones were overcapacity. “There are still public schools whose classroom capacity exceeds an ideal number. Even, they reach 48 students,” he said, Monday (16/2).

He said with the capacity exceeding the quota, some junior, high and vocational schools even opened afternoon classes. Such condition was considered ineffective when teaching and learning activities at schools were in progress. “Just imagine, the teacher cannot probably memorize the names of all students,” he explained.

Another weakness caused by the overcapacity was that the learning process in classroom became not ideal in terms of delivery of materials.

Further, the education council, accord-

ing to Wayan Kawi, a former teacher, recommended to the Tabanan Education Agency to limit the number of students. “Each classroom maximally holds 38 students,” he explained.

From the observation all this time, many public schools held more students than the actual capacity.

The overloaded schools included the SMPN 1, SMPN 2 and SMPN 3 junior high school. “In addition to junior high school, the overloaded students also happened to high school level,” he said.

For high school, the overcapacity happened to the SMAN 1, SMAN 2 and SMAN 1 Kediri, Tabanan. According to him, the school authority should be able to limit because the overcapacity at junior and high school level had become a problem. “In terms of building, it is indeed not a problem,” he said.

Booming student admission at a number of favorite schools had caused them to impose double shifts (morning and afternoon class) so that private schools turned sluggish. The SMP Harapan junior high school, for instance, had got the impact. The school located at Jalan Mataram 12, Malkangin hamlet, Delod Peken, Tabanan was formerly very popular.

Later on, its condition was suffering.

Even, in the 2014-2015 academic year this junior high school did not get any student.

Principal of the SMP Harapan Tabanan junior high school, I Wayan Rateng Suadnyana, previously mentioned the lack of students enrolling at private junior high school was caused by the public junior high schools received a lot of students. Even, a few public schools in Tabanan like the SMPN 1 and SMPN 2 enforced two shifts namely the morning and afternoon class. Besides, more and more public schools were established at remote areas so that no one wanted to go to private schools. “The public schools have received hundreds of students, so that no one went to private schools,” said Rateng.

He said that he could not do much with such condition. Moreover, his party still had a responsibility to 14 students of grade 8 and 29 students of grade 9. “We are still responsible for students of grade 8 and 9 until they entirely graduate,” he said.

He told there were six teachers of civil servant in charge of the school he chaired. Besides, there were five teachers of the foundations and six administration staff. His party hoped the Education Agency would not soon withdraw the civil servant-teachers in charge. He wanted the process of learning for all students could be accomplished first. Actually there were nine civil servant-teachers, while three teachers had been moved because they did not get teaching hours. Incidentally

there had been other teachers. So, the three teachers were finally moved in order to get teaching hours. “It’s a pity that they cannot get teaching hours as it has something to do with their certification,” he said.

Related to school survival, Rateng entirely submitted to the Harapan Bangsa Foundation, the institution managing the school. “We leave it entirely on the policy of the foundation for the continuation of this school,” he said.

When confirmed in separate place, the Head of Tabanan Agency, Putu Santika, did not dismiss if a number of schools indeed had students exceeding ideal capacity. He also confirmed that fewer students in classroom would make the learning process more effective. “But the school-based management system

He argued it was different from the previous period where there was standardization of school such as the label as Pioneering International Standard School (RSBI) and National Standard School (SSN). “Now, it has been deleted, so that we return it to respective school,” he explained.

His party only suggested holding 40 students in a classroom as ideal number and it would be better. “But we are unable to reject students,” he explained.

He also gave the reason why many schools were overcapacity. According to him, it happened because it was impossible to build a new school building. “Yes, indeed there should be a development of school building,” he added. (kmb28)

Dwiki Dharmawan’s Jazzy Valentine at Taman Bhagawan Bali

TANJUNG BENOA - Bali was the final destination for Dwiki Dharmawan who conducted a world class concert with Jimmy Haslip (Bass), Chad Wackerman (Drums) and Indonesiafs top guitarist Tohpati last Saturday, February 14th 2015 at Taman Bhagawan Bali.

This performance followed the first concert in Suhana Hall Jakarta on February 10th and concert in Bandung February 11th.

This tour promoted Dwiki Dharmawanfs latest Album EP CD recorded in America titled gPASSION, LOVE, & LIFEh. The tour also is a showcase for the “Road to Jazz Market by The Sea 2015”, set for 14-16 August 2015 at Taman Bhagawan Bali.

His latest album gPassion, Love, Lifeh supported by legendary musicians Jimmy Haslip (Bass), Chad Wackerman (Drums), and two of Indonesiafs best guitarists Dewa Budjana and Tohpati, complemented by legendary violinist member of Mahavishnu Orchestra Jerry Goodman will mark the 30 years of Dwikifs works. gPassion, Love, Lifeh will be recorded live by Jeff Lorber at JHL Studio, Pacific Palisades California and produced under the label gGitarku Recordsh owned by, among them, Dewa Budjana, in cooperation with MoonJune Records based in New York which will handle international promotion, marketing and distribution.

For shows in Jakarta and Bandung, guitarists Dewa Budjana will also perform, but in Bali, the tour featured guitarist Tohpati collaborating with Jembranafs Jegog lead by I Nyoman Windha.

Dwiki created 6 (six) new pieces in his latest album i.e. Return of the Lamafa, The Dark of the Light, Bromo, Whale Dance, So Far So Close, Jembrana’s Fantasy and rearranged 2 of his previous pieces i.e.

NYC 2050 (from Nuansa album, 2002), and Arafura (from World Peace Orchestra album, 2009).

In this version of Arafura, Jerry Goodnan will be performing as the awaken violin player member of Mahavisnu Orchestra together with John Mc Laughlin and Jan Hammer.

When questioned why Dwiki chose Chad Wackerman and Jimmy Haslip as partners in collaborating for this album, Dwiki commented gChad Wackerman is a phenomenal Drummer Jazz Rock, I have followed his musical career from debuting as drummer Frank Zappa until his collaboration with London Symphony Orchestra. Chad is very powerful but on the other hand he is very talented in composing, Chad is

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon.

The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Apple has hundreds working on electric car project NEW YORK — You’ve heard of the iPhone and iPad. How about the iCar?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple has hired hundreds of people to work on a secret project — code name “Titan” — to develop an electric vehicle. The newspaper cites people familiar with the project who spoke under condition of anonymity.

Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr declined to comment.

The article says that the vehicle will resemble a minivan and that it would be branded as an Apple product.

Apple’s industrial design team is staffed with several people with automaking experience, the article

says. That group includes Marc Newson, a designer who once created a concept car for Ford.

Apple has confirmed that Newson is on its staff.

If Apple does sell an electric car, it will face some competitors.

General Motors announced on Thursday that it will build an electric car, the Chevrolet Bolt, with a 200-mile (320-kilometer) range at a factory near Detroit.

The car will cost $37,500, not including a $7,500 federal tax credit, GM said. The car will be built starting in 2017.

Silicon Valley automaker Tesla

Motors plans to start selling a 200-mile (320-kilometer)-percharge car about the same time.

The price of Tesla’s Model 3, including the tax credit, is likely to be well below $30,000 after the tax credit.

Nissan is already selling an electric car, the Leaf, though not many — 158,000 around the world.

The Journal notes that Apple is always experimenting with new products, many eventually abandoned. But it says the senior people involved in the electric car project suggest that it is serious venture. (ap)

NEW YORK — Mattel and Google are trying to bring the 75year-old View-Master into the 21st century — with some help from smartphones and virtual reality technology.

The original View-Masters gave people a chance to click through colorful photos by inserting reels into the viewing devices.

Targeted at families, the updated View-Master has users insert a smartphone into a headset. A smartphone app will enable the gadget to immerse kids in a slew of virtual

worlds, from far-off cities to outer space. The new View-Masters will be priced at about $30.

Mattel Inc. and Google Inc. unveiled the virtual reality viewer Friday at Mattel’s New York City office. The device launches in the fall, but the companies had no finished product to show off.

But Mattel demonstrated the technology using Google Cardboard, a cardboard attachment that turns smartphones into virtual reality viewers. Reels won’t be necessary for the new View-Master, but they will

enhance the experience. In a demo, there were reels for San Francisco, outer space and dinosaurs. Pointing your headset at one and clicking a button on the side of the headset took you into each of the worlds. A set of four reels will cost $15.

The original View-Master launched at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. Mattel says it has sold more than 100 million of them.

The new version will launch on Android devices first, but the companies plan to make it available on all platforms down the line. (ap)

To combat fraud, Visa wants to track your smartphone

NEW YORK — Those days of calling your bank to let them know that, yes, you really are in Thailand, and yes, you really did use your credit card to buy $200 in sarongs, may be coming to an end.

The payment processing company Visa will roll out a new feature this spring that will allow its cardholders to inform their banks where they are automatically, using the location function found in nearly every smartphone.

Having your bank and Visa know where you are at all times may sound a little like “Big Brother.”

But privacy experts are actually applauding the feature, saying that, if used correctly, it could protect cardholders and cut down on credit card fraud.

Credit and debit card fraud costs consumers and banks billions of dollars each year, and that figure has been growing as data breaches have become more common. The banking industry had $1.57 billion in debit card fraud in 2013 and $4 billion in credit card fraud in 2012, the latest years for which data are available, according to the Federal Reserve.

Facing these high costs, banks and the payment processors have been stepping up their efforts to cut down on fraud, and Visa’s announcement is just one small piece of this drive. JPMorgan Chase’s CEO Jamie Dimon has said repeatedly that his bank spends $250 million overall on cybersecurity every year, and plans to double that spending.

Here’s how it works: starting in April, banks will update their smartphone apps to include Visa’s new location-tracking software.

If the consumer opts in, the Visa software will, over a period of time, establish a customer’s home territory of roughly a 50-mile radius. If the person uses his or her Visa card at stores in that area, those transactions will be considered low risk for fraud.

When that person travels outside their home area, the phone will notify Visa that they’ve entered a new city or country, using either the phone’s cellular data plan or the next time the phone connects to a Wi-Fi network. When that person uses their Visa card for a transaction in that location, Visa will already know he or she is there and will be less likely to flag the card for a fraud alert.

“We will be able to compare the merchant’s location to the most recent cellphone location to show it’s a less risky transaction,” Visa executive Mark Nelsen said.

The feature is optional and can be deactivated at any time. Visa

also says none of the location tracking will be used for marketing purposes.

One type of fraud Visa’s feature will directly address is counterfeit credit cards. Criminals can take stolen credit card information and code it onto a new card using equipment that can be readily purchased online. Counterfeit cards look like any other credit card, but have someone else’s information on the magnetic stripe.

Nelsen said Visa hopes the new security feature will prevent “a good portion” of fraud perpetrated with counterfeit cards, because those cards are often used in a location other than where the actual card owner lives.

Visa’s new anti-fraud measure, which the company announced on Thursday, won’t address every potential fraud situation. If a card user has both their phone and credit cards stolen, for example, Visa wouldn’t necessarily know that the card was at risk of fraudulent use until the cardholder contacted the company. The current version of Visa’s anti-fraud software doesn’t address the possibility of stolen credit card data being used to make online purchases, but a future version will, Nelsen said.

Visa is just one of dozens of financial companies trying to figure out the best way to use new technologies to combat fraud. MasterCard said Friday it is rolling out a pilot program later this year that will integrate biometric data, such as face, voice or fingerprints, into its payment system to help authenticate transactions.

Many travelers have had the experience of having their credit cards declined when using them for the first time in a foreign city or country because the bank assumed the charge was fraudulent. The only solution in those situations was for the cardholders to call the banks or credit card issuer every time they travel to let them know where they will be.

The process is cumbersome and time-consuming for cardholders and also for banks, which incur large expenses to staff call centers to deal with these types of calls from customers. Some banks use systems like text message alerts, but that usually requires customers to reply or call a number before the transaction will go through.

“The goal is to let more of those good transactions go through so we can focus on the real fraud,” Nelsen said. Privacy experts were generally warm to the idea, as long as banks are clear on how a customer’s smartphone location will be used. (ap)

After fuel price decreases

Sea transport tariff only lowered by IDR 5,000

Semarapura - The Klungkung Transportation, Communications and Informatics Agency finally addressed the issue on sea and overland transportation tariff after fuel price was decreased. As evidence, on Monday (Feb 16) the Head of Transportation Agency, Nengah Sukasta, along with his ranks gathered boat owners and boat entrepreneurs, including the drivers of land transport to discuss about transport tariff adjustment. The meeting held at the office of the Transportation Agency was also attended by Chairman of the Klungkung Land Transportation Organization (Organda), I Nyoman Arka Arsana. Unfortunately, the meeting on transport tariff adjustment after the fuel price was decreased could not entirely agree to down the tariff.

As information gathered in the field last Monday, only boat and sampan owners agreed to down the crossing tariff.

Originally the sampan owners refused to down the tariff. After they were urged by the transportation officials, sampan owners finally agreed to reduce their tariff.

However, the decrease agreed was only as much as IDR 5,000. “The decline in sea transportation tariff of IDR 5,000 was taken as win-win solution. Within this situation, only the fuel price is downed,” said the Head of Klungkung Transportation, Communications and Informatics Agency, Nengah Sukasta, last Monday.

Additionally, Nengah Sukasta admitted that based on the results of the meeting there was no decrease in the land transportation tariff. It did not only refer to the decision of Organda Bali, but also considered that the decrease only happened to the fuel price. Meanwhile, the other components such as vehicle parts did not decline. Moreover, according to Sukasta, the condition of land passengers was very quiet rather than sea passengers.

“Yes, we also consider the condition in the field. The passengers of sea transport are busier than land transport,” he said.

Obviously, according to Sukasta, the meeting on the tariff adjustment of land transport and sea transport had not been final. The results of the transport tariff adjustment would be further discussed by legal division before defined by the regent of Klungkung. “Well, before approved by the regent through a decree, we will submit first the results of the meeting to legal division to be studied,” he said.

Meanwhile, just to be known, the sea crossing tariff by using inter-county boat from Sanur and Padang Bai to Nusa Dua is averagely charged at IDR 60,000 to IDR 85,000 per person. But after the decrease in fuel price, the crossing tariff by using boat was agreed to decrease as much as IDR 5,000. Meanwhile, the land transportation is still charged as the original tariff, namely on average of IDR 3,000 to IDR 15,000. And it also depends on the distance traveled. (119)

Two inn employees arrested for smuggling drugs into prison

Gianyar — As caught smuggling drugs into Gianyar Prison, two accommodation employees were arrested by Gianyar Police Narcotic Unit, Monday (Feb 16). Marijuana weighing 3.3 grams was inserted into the package of Jinggo rice that would be given to a prisoner of precharge detention with initial Koplar.

Now, Gusti Ngurah Joni Saputra, 23, and Komang Sucipta are still undergoing investigation at Gianyar Police station.

Based on observation of Bali Post in front of the Gianyar Prison on Monday around 3:00 p.m., Ngurah Joni in red shirts just lowered his head when escorted by two personnel of Gianyar Police going out of the prison’s door.

Other than bringing the man from Bona village, Blahbatuh, police officers also brought the evidence of plastic bag containing Jinggo rice and two packs of cracker. “This is Jinggo rice containing drugs to be smuggled into the prison,” explained a police officer while car-

rying Ngurah Joni and the evidence to Gianyar Police station.

When describing the evidence, it was known the Jinggo rice wrapped in banana leaf was inserted with marijuana in plastic bags weighing 3.3 grams. When being interrogated, Ngurah Joni did not know if the package contained illicit goods.

“I was just asked to accompany him (Komang Sucipta—Ed), but I did not know if it contained drugs.

Swear, I did not know,” he said.

Ngurah Joni told that around 12:00 a.m. while working, Komang Sucipta was phoned by his friend named Koplar, denoting a prisoner of pre-charge detention at the Gianyar Prison. The two men were told to take rice at the home of Dewa B living around Gianyar.

“At that home, the rice was taken by Komang, then we went to prison by riding a motorcycle (Supra 125 with license plate DK 2176 XQ—Ed),” he said while adding that he was surprised when the consignment was inspected around 2:00 p.m.,

and the warden found drugs inserted into the wrap of the Jinggo rice.

Meanwhile, Komang Sucipta looked pale and claimed to have known Koplar before he was arrested by the Gianyar Police Narcotic Unit in January 2015. He said Koplar often rented a room at his workplace. But he admitted not to intentionally smuggle marijuana into the Gianyar Prison for Koplar.

“I have known him for long time because he often rented a room at my workplace. Just know he called me again and told to bring him rice taken from the house of Dewa (Dewa B—Ed),” he said.

Meanwhile, the police officer receiving the report directly made a development led by Chief of Gianyar Police Narcotic Unit, Kadek Ardika. It was said that Komang Sucipta was immediately escorted to the house of Dewa B to make a search around 3:15 p.m., but found nothing. “Quickly we have searched the house suspected of being the initial source of the drugs, but nothing

was found,” said Kadek Ardika.

Allegedly after hearing the failed smuggling, there was communication between Koplar and Dewa B, so that the searching could not find any goods. He also questioned why a prisoner of pre-charge detention could bring a mobile phone at the Gianyar Prisoner. “We have an evidence of incoming call from the number, according to recognition of Sucipta, used by Koplar, but how could he bring a mobile phone?,” he asked while adding that local wardens also made an inspection where Koplar was detained, but nothing was found.

When asked about the relationship of Komang Sucipta to Koplar, Ardika said that based on initial information it was known that before arrested Koplar often rented a room at the workplace of Komang Sucipta. “What he (Koplar—Ed) rented a room for is still being investigated, whether it was used for consuming (drugs) or for other purpose. And the long involvement of Komang will also be elaborated, chiefly why

Missing earrings, Russian citizen reports spa therapist Tabanan - A Russian citizen named Anna Lopatina, 42, reported a loss of gold earrings to Tabanan Police, Sunday (Feb 15). The earrings of made in Greece estimated to worth around IDR 11 million were suspected to have been stolen by a therapist of spa outlet located in Tabanan.

Based on information, Anna who was living at Canggu Kuta came to the spa outlet in Tabanan for a massage, Saturday (Feb 14). He claimed to be massaged by a spa therapist named Komang. When being massaged, Anna fell asleep and after undergoing the treatment she immediately went to Hardys to go shopping. On arriving at Hardys, Anna just realized if her white gold earrings were missing.

Then, she returned to the spa outlet and asked about the earrings to the therapist who served her. However, from the recognition of Anna, the spa therapist named Komang looked nervous when asked, although admitting not to take the earrings.

Rebels claim to capture key Ukraine rail hub of Debaltseve LUHANSKE, Ukraine — Russia-backed rebels in eastern Ukraine claimed Tuesday to have taken the key transportation hub of Debaltseve as both parties faced a deadline to start pulling back heavy weapons from the front line.

Fierce fighting on Tuesday appeared to be focused on Debaltseve, a government-held town surrounded by rebel forces that both sides claim to be on their side of the cease-fire line. The issue was not resolved under a cease-fire agreement negotiated last week by the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France.

Separatist leaders said in remarks carried by the rebel mouthpiece Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday afternoon that their forces have pushed the Ukrainian army out of Debaltseve, gaining control over most of the town.

The war in eastern Ukraine has already killed more than 5,600 people and displaced more than a million, according to U.N. figures issued Monday. It has also left the country’s industrial heartland in ruins.

Fighting has stopped or subsided in some parts of war-torn eastern Ukraine, however. Rebel military spokesman Eduard Basurin said Tuesday they separatists had not seen any violations of the ceasefire in the area around the rebel stronghold of Donetsk since 8 p.m.

Tens of thousands of Myanmar ethnic refugees flee to China

BEIJING — Tens of thousands of refugees from Myanmar’s ethnic region of Kokang have fled into the neighboring Chinese province of Yunnan over the past week amid fighting between militant rebels and government troops. Citing government officials, the state-owned news site Yunnan.cn reported Monday that there have been 30,000 border crossings by Myanmar nationals, and that Chinese authorities had offered them food and medical care.

Lin Sen, a volunteer helping refugees in Yunnan, said by phone Tuesday that he estimated 30,000 to 50,000 refugees had escaped the conflict region of Kokang over the past week.

Kokang is dominated by ethnic Han Chinese, and the region has been embroiled in fights since conflicts between the militant rebels led

by Phone Kya Shin and government troops intensified on Feb. 9.

The rebel group’s general secretary, Htun Myat Lin, told The Associated Press by phone on Tuesday that the group is seeking autonomy for Kokang and its ethnic Han Chinese people.

“We want to have a high degree of autonomy where we can manage our own affairs, but we do not wish to split the country of Myanmar,” Htun said. Htun complained that the ethnic Han Chinese have been second-class citizens in Myanmar. “Our ethnicity must have dignity,” he said.

Myanmar only recently emerged from a half-century of military rule. Since assuming power in 2011, the government of President Thein Sein has been trying to strike peace agreements with rebels in resource-rich border regions.(ap)

MILAN — Police have searched the homes of several women who attended ex-Premier Silvio Berlusconi’s famed “bunga bunga” parties as part of an investigation into alleged witness tampering during the billionaire’s sex-for-hire

trial.

An appeals court last July acquitted Berlusconi of paying a 17-year-old girl, Karima el-Mahroug, better known as Ruby, for sex on the grounds that he was apparently unaware of her age when she attended the

sex-fuelled parties.

Over the course of that trial, a new investigation began concerning allegations of witness tampering with some of the other “bunga bunga” participants. Berlusconi, his lawyers, el-Mahroug and several women

are under investigation but haven’t been charged.

Concurrent Regional Elections To Kick Off In December 2015

BRUSSELS — European creditors issued Greece with an ultimatum Monday, saying the country must accept a key condition in bailout talks by the end of the week or face having to meet its debt commitments on its own — a prospect that many in the financial markets think would leave Greece little option but to leave the euro.

“It would be an act of subterfuge to promise to our partners to complete successfully a program we challenged the logic of,” Greece’s finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, said.

And despite the talk of deadlines, Varoufakis insisted a deal between the two sides was achievable and that visible progress could still be made within the next 48 hours despite Monday’s swift breakdown in discussions.

“We are ready and willing to do whatever it takes to reach an agreement over the next two days,”

he said. “Europe will do the usual trick: It will pull a good agreement or an honorable agreement out of what seems to be an impasse .... I have no doubt that, within the next 48 hours Europe is going to come together and find phrasing that is necessary so we can submit it and move on to do the real work that is necessary.”

For all his talk about deadlines, Dijsselbloem also said there was scope for compromise provided the Greek government commits to the broad outlines of the current program, such as maintaining tight budgetary discipline.

He added that he thought it was “still feasible” that Athens would ask for an extension.

“The request for an extension only commits to one thing: that you keep to the broad lines of the program,” he said.

However, his suggestion that there was “some flexibility” built in the bailout program met with a fair

degree of ambivalence from Varoufakis, who said it was a “nebulous” turn of phrase.

Varoufakis said he had been “perfectly happy to sign there and then” a plan proposed by Pierre Moscovici, the European Commission’s monetary and economic affairs official. Details of the plan were sketchy but did apparently involve Athens putting on hold its anti-austerity measures in return for loans and the start of a 6-month negotiation to a future financial arrangement.

“We were offering to refrain from implementing our program for six months and all we were getting back was a nebulous promise of some flexibility that wasn’t specified,” Varoufakis said.

Malta’s finance minister, Edward Scicluna, worried about the implications of a failure by Athens to request an extension: “Then we won’t meet. There won’t be anything. It will be a disaster.” (ap)

In 2027, the Indonesian people would witness the concurrent regional elections held across the country, he stated, adding that the acting governors and acting district heads would fill the vacant positions left by outgoing regional heads until definitive figures are elected by the people. Exports down 9.03 percent in January

JAKARTA - Indonesia’s exports in January 2015 fell 9.03 percent to US$13.30 billion from US$14.62 billion in December 2014, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

The January 2015 exports also tumbled 8.09 percent compared to the same month last year, BPS Chief Suryamin said on Monday.

He said non-oil/non-gas exports in January 2015 reached US$11.22 billion, down 8.51 percent from US$12.22 billion the month before.

Compared to the same month last year, the non-oil/non-gas exports in January 2015 dropped 6.24 percent, he said.

Oil and gas exports also fell 11.75

percent to US$2.07 billion in January 2015 from US$2.35 billion a month earlier, with the export of animal and vegetable fats and oils tumbling 9.55 percent to US$162.6 million. However, jewelry exports jumped 61.77 percent to US$293.4 million.

Based on sectors, non-oil/non-gas exports from the processing industry declined 4.69 percent and mining industry dropped 16.34 percent in January 2015 from the same month last year.

The United States remained the biggest market for Indonesia’s non-oil/non-gas exports in January 2015 with a value of US$1.25 billion, followed by Japan US$1.15 billion and China US$1.08 billion. (ant)

JAKARTA - The National Movement of Anti-Narcotics (Ganas Annar), an Indonesian NGO, considers UN Secretary General Ban Kimoon to be biased regarding Indonesia’s plan to execute two Australian drug offenders belonging to the “Bali Nine” drug syndicate.

“We deeply regret Ban Ki-moon’s statement urging the Indonesian government to cancel the execution of the two Australians involved in drug trafficking,” Chairman of the Ganas Annar Central Committee, stated here, Monday.

He claimed that the UN secretary general has not been neutral since he maintained a silent stance when Indonesians citizens were executed overseas. On the contrary, when Indonesia planned to execute drug offenders, he called for cancellations, he pointed out. The UN top man

should know that thousands of young men had died of drug addictions, he emphasized.

“Therefore, we urge President Joko Widodo not to back down. We must not allow foreigners to dictate our country,” he affirmed.

Drug offenders deserve death penalty as they have indirectly killed other people, he noted.

Earlier, Reuters reported that United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appealed to Indonesia not to execute the prisoners on death row for drug crimes, including the citizens of Australia, Brazil, France, Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria, and the Philippines.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Ban had spoken to Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Thursday “to express his concern at the recent application of capital punishment in Indonesia.” (ant)

FRANKFORT, Kentucky - The U.S. South got its turn to suffer from snow, freezing rain and sleet in a storm that brought back memories of one from the same time a year ago.

After weeks of snow in the Northeast, winter weather had moved through Arkansas and Kentucky and was headed east.

While even small amounts of frozen precipitation can bring the region to a halt, the worst was yet to come: temperatures in the single digits Fahrenheit (below minus 13) in areas where electricity was threatened by coatings of ice on power lines.

This February storm arrived on Monday, the Presidents Day holiday, when many schools and businesses were already closed. But the day isn’t a state holiday in North Carolina so schools let out early Monday and by the afternoon officials were canceling classes Tuesday. College campuses, from Appalachian State University in the western part of the state and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, canceled afternoon classes Monday.

In central Kentucky, home to much of the state’s signature thoroughbred industry, horses kept warm by galloping through the deep snow, pausing occasionally to shake it off from their thick winter coats. Ned Toffey, general manager of Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, said the horses enjoy running in the snow because it gives them a nice cushion as opposed to the harder, packed earth.

Roads were brined and parking lots salted as officials tried to avoid a disastrous repeat of last year’s February storm, when rush-hour traffic and a thin coating of ice combined to leave people either stuck in their cars or their cars abandoned in roads as they walked home in Atlanta and Raleigh, North Carolina.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday shut down all non-mandatory state government operations in Wake County in the early afternoon before any precipitation had fallen. He also declared a state of emergency and issued executive orders designed to streamline any storm

cleanup. He encouraged supervisors elsewhere in the state to use their discretion in sending employees home.

On Monday night, he said the forecast had worsened with more snow and ice expected in the central part of the state. The National Weather Service said the storm could be crippling.

In the Northeast, which has been slammed by seemingly endless snow, the snow had halted, but the weather was bitterly cold. New York City came close to breaking a 127-year-old record when the temperature in Central Park hit 3 degrees F (minus-16 degrees C), just 2 degrees above the record set in 1888, said Jeffrey Tongue, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh said the latest snow storm left one person dead, apparently due to a heart attack while shoveling snow. A partial roof collapse at an eight-building apartment complex in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, left 500 to 700 people looking for shelter. In New Jersey, a 66-year-old woman who had been drinking at a benefit was found dead in the snow, just two doors from her home. Firefighters working on a blaze in Philadelphia left behind a building coated in icicles. No one was hurt.

West Virginia was getting hit hard by the snowstorm when a train carrying crude oil derailed about 30 miles (50 kilometers) from Charleston. At least one tanker went into the Kanawha River and a nearby house caught fire. It wasn’t clear if the winter storm had contributed to the crash.

After the storm marched across North Carolina, where almost all of the 100 counties were under some sort of weather alert, it was expected to move through the Mid-Atlantic and yes, back into the Northeast.

In the Washington, D.C., region, officials asked motorists to stay off the roads, and hundreds of plows were out ahead of the storm, which was expected to dump up to 10 inches (25 centimeters) in Virginia. (ap)

Ducati has launched its 2015 MotoGP bike, the first completely new design since the team was restructured following Audi’s acquisition of its parent company. The GP15 will make its public track debut at the second Sepang winter test next week. Ducati used an interim ‘GP14.3’ bike for the opening test earlier this month.

The 2015 bike has a new chassis, as Ducati aims to end a victory drought that now stretches back to the 2010 Australian Grand Prix. Andrea Dovizioso stays on for a third year, with Andrea Iannone moving up from Ducati’s satellite team Pramac to join him. Dovizioso said he had been surprised by the extent of the changes to the bike.

“I didn’t expect it to be so narrow and compact,” he said. “It’s incredible. It looks different, but what is really different - I feel - is the heart, what’s inside.

“We are transforming the bike we had last year so we can have both an

evolution and revolution.” Ducati’s sporting chief Gigi Dall’Igna is optimistic that Ducati now has the rider and bike combination required to challenge Honda and Yamaha on a regular basis again - and to finally win again.

“We have to fight against bike manufacturers with a long MotoGP tradition and against four riders among the best ever, but I really believe in our Andreas,” he said.

“Our aim this year is very ambitious, because we want to win at least one race. We know that it is an extremely tough objective, but we are used to accepting the most difficult of challenges.” He added that the GP15 would be a more userfriendly bike than its predecessor.

“With the GP14.3 we have made some major progress with the software, which will be easy to switch over to the GP15, but also steps forward in the suspension, chassis and engine departments,” said Dall’Igna. “The GP15 will

start with the same settings as the GP14.3, but it will have many more possibilities for adjustment.” Last season was Ducati’s best in recent

years, as it took three podium finishes and closed the gap to the frontrunners.

Stepping-stone clubs Basel and Porto clash ZURICH - Basel’s Champions League tie against Porto on Wednesday pits two clubs who have mastered the art of nurturing the talent of little-known footballers and selling them on to Europe’s top teams. Unable to compete with the financial power of the biggest clubs, both have instead been happy to accept a role as stepping-stones for players hoping to make their way to one of the leading five leagues.

Both have been highly successful at what they do and have m a n aged

to remain competitive despite allowing a succession of top footballers to walk through the exit door. Twice European champions Porto have raked in more than half a billion euros ($570.20 million) from selling players, many of them bought for a pittance from South American clubs, in the last 10 years.

The likes of Radamel Falcao, Hulk, James Rodriguez, Raul Meireles, Pepe and Anderson all passed

through the Dragao Stadium and Porto’s much-acclaimed youth academy before heading elsewhere.

However, they have managed to keep replenishing their talent pool and now boast the likes of Colombia forward Jackson Martinez in attack and Algeria midfielder Yacine Brahimi in midfield. Porto have won the Primeira Liga seven times in the last 10 season and reached the Champions League knockout

Barca’s latest deal is only for one season as Spanish clubs are set to adopt a system of collective bargaining for TV rights similar to that used in other top European leagues from the 2016-17 campaign. The Spanish government has pledged to introduce a law mandating collective bargaining but has been dragging its feet, prompting some clubs to threaten they will strike in protest.

Pressure has increased after the English Premier League agreed this month a new collective TV rights deal with Sky and BT Sport for 2016-19 worth nearly $8 billion.

Many clubs in La Liga, including the likes of Espanyol, Valencia and Sevilla, are hopeful a collective deal would enable them to demand more from broadcasters which would then be shared out more equitably to create a more level playing field.

Sp rt Man United rallies for 3-1 win at Preston in FA Cup

PRESTON, England — Manchester United had to come from behind to avoid an FA Cup upset at Preston, rallying with three secondhalf goals to beat the third-tier club 3-1 and reach the quarterfinals.

Preston looked set to spring another major surprise in this year’s competition when Scott Laird put the hosts ahead in the 48th minute with a deflected shot.

But Ander Herrera equalized in the 65th for United and Marouane Fellaini followed up his own rebound to make it 2-1 seven minutes later. Mainz sack coach Hjulmand, youth coach Schmidt takes over

Stepping-stone clubs Basel and Porto clash ZURICH - Basel’s Champions League tie against Porto on Wednesday pits two clubs who have mastered the art of nurturing the talent of little-known footballers and selling them on to Europe’s top teams. Unable to compete with the financial power of the biggest clubs, both have instead been happy to accept a role as stepping-stones for players hoping to make their way to one of the leading five leagues.

to remain competitive despite allowing a succession of top footballers to walk through the exit door. Twice European champions Porto have raked in more than half a billion euros ($570.20 million) from selling players, many of them bought for a pittance from South American clubs, in the last 10 years.

The likes of Radamel Falcao, Hulk, James Rodriguez, Raul Meireles, Pepe and Anderson all passed

through the Dragao Stadium and Porto’s much-acclaimed youth academy before heading elsewhere.

However, they have managed to keep replenishing their talent pool and now boast the likes of Colombia forward Jackson Martinez in attack and Algeria midfielder Yacine Brahimi in midfield. Porto have won the Primeira Liga seven times in the last 10 season and reached the Champions League knockout

Barca’s latest deal is only for one season as Spanish clubs are set to adopt a system of collective bargaining for TV rights similar to that used in other top European leagues from the 2016-17 campaign. The Spanish government has pledged to introduce a law mandating collective bargaining but has been dragging its feet, prompting some clubs to threaten they will strike in protest.

Pressure has increased after the English Premier League agreed this month a new collective TV rights deal with Sky and BT Sport for 2016-19 worth nearly $8 billion.

Many clubs in La Liga, including the likes of Espanyol, Valencia and Sevilla, are hopeful a collective deal would enable them to demand more from broadcasters which would then be shared out more equitably to create a more level playing field.

Ducati has launched its 2015 MotoGP bike, the first completely new design since the team was restructured following Audi’s acquisition of its parent company. The GP15 will make its public track debut at the second Sepang winter test next week. Ducati used an interim ‘GP14.3’ bike for the opening test earlier this month.

The 2015 bike has a new chassis, as Ducati aims to end a victory drought that now stretches back to the 2010 Australian Grand Prix. Andrea Dovizioso stays on for a third year, with Andrea Iannone moving up from Ducati’s satellite team Pramac to join him. Dovizioso said he had been surprised by the extent of the changes to the bike.

“I didn’t expect it to be so narrow and compact,” he said. “It’s incredible. It looks different, but what is really different - I feel - is the heart, what’s inside.

“We are transforming the bike we had last year so we can have both an

evolution and revolution.” Ducati’s sporting chief Gigi Dall’Igna is optimistic that Ducati now has the rider and bike combination required to challenge Honda and Yamaha on a regular basis again - and to finally win again.

“We have to fight against bike manufacturers with a long MotoGP tradition and against four riders among the best ever, but I really believe in our Andreas,” he said.

“Our aim this year is very ambitious, because we want to win at least one race. We know that it is an extremely tough objective, but we are used to accepting the most difficult of challenges.” He added that the GP15 would be a more userfriendly bike than its predecessor.

“With the GP14.3 we have made some major progress with the software, which will be easy to switch over to the GP15, but also steps forward in the suspension, chassis and engine departments,” said Dall’Igna. “The GP15 will

start with the same settings as the GP14.3, but it will have many more possibilities for adjustment.” Last season was Ducati’s best in recent

FRANKFORT, Kentucky - The U.S. South got its turn to suffer from snow, freezing rain and sleet in a storm that brought back memories of one from the same time a year ago.

After weeks of snow in the Northeast, winter weather had moved through Arkansas and Kentucky and was headed east.

While even small amounts of frozen precipitation can bring the region to a halt, the worst was yet to come: temperatures in the single digits Fahrenheit (below minus 13) in areas where electricity was threatened by coatings of ice on power lines.

This February storm arrived on Monday, the Presidents Day holiday, when many schools and businesses were already closed. But the day isn’t a state holiday in North Carolina so schools let out early Monday and by the afternoon officials were canceling classes Tuesday. College campuses, from Appalachian State University in the western part of the state and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, canceled afternoon classes Monday.

In central Kentucky, home to much of the state’s signature thoroughbred industry, horses kept warm by galloping through the deep snow, pausing occasionally to shake it off from their thick winter coats. Ned Toffey, general manager of Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, said the horses enjoy running in the snow because it gives them a nice cushion as opposed to the harder, packed earth.

Roads were brined and parking lots salted as officials tried to avoid a disastrous repeat of last year’s February storm, when rush-hour traffic and a thin coating of ice combined to leave people either stuck in their cars or their cars abandoned in roads as they walked home in Atlanta and Raleigh, North Carolina.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday shut down all non-mandatory state government operations in Wake County in the early afternoon before any precipitation had fallen. He also declared a state of emergency and issued executive orders designed to streamline any storm

cleanup. He encouraged supervisors elsewhere in the state to use their discretion in sending employees home.

On Monday night, he said the forecast had worsened with more snow and ice expected in the central part of the state. The National Weather Service said the storm could be crippling.

In the Northeast, which has been slammed by seemingly endless snow, the snow had halted, but the weather was bitterly cold. New York City came close to breaking a 127-year-old record when the temperature in Central Park hit 3 degrees F (minus-16 degrees C), just 2 degrees above the record set in 1888, said Jeffrey Tongue, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh said the latest snow storm left one person dead, apparently due to a heart attack while shoveling snow. A partial roof collapse at an eight-building apartment complex in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, left 500 to 700 people looking for shelter. In New Jersey, a 66-year-old woman who had been drinking at a benefit was found dead in the snow, just two doors from her home. Firefighters working on a blaze in Philadelphia left behind a building coated in icicles. No one was hurt.

West Virginia was getting hit hard by the snowstorm when a train carrying crude oil derailed about 30 miles (50 kilometers) from Charleston. At least one tanker went into the Kanawha River and a nearby house caught fire. It wasn’t clear if the winter storm had contributed to the crash.

After the storm marched across North Carolina, where almost all of the 100 counties were under some sort of weather alert, it was expected to move through the Mid-Atlantic and yes, back into the Northeast.

In the Washington, D.C., region, officials asked motorists to stay off the roads, and hundreds of plows were out ahead of the storm, which was expected to dump up to 10 inches (25 centimeters) in Virginia. (ap)

JAKARTA - The government and House of Representatives (DPR) have finalized the draft of regional elections with an agreement that concurrent regional elections would be held in December 2015, a lawmaker stated on Tuesday.

After a meeting of the 19 finance ministers of the eurozone over how to make Greece’s debts sustainable broke down in seeming-acrimony after barely more than three hours, Greece was told it has to ask for an extension to its bailout program before further negotiations on the country’s future financing and economic course can take place.

“We simply need more time and the best way for that at this point is extend the current program which would allow a number of months for us to work on future arrangements,” said Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the head of the so-called eurogroup.

Without some sort of financing arrangements in place after the current bailout ends after Feb. 28, Greece would face real difficulties

And despite the talk of deadlines, Varoufakis insisted a deal between the two sides was achievable and that visible progress could still be made within the next 48 hours despite Monday’s swift breakdown in discussions.

“We are ready and willing to do whatever it takes to reach an agreement over the next two days,”

he said. “Europe will do the usual trick: It will pull a good agreement or an honorable agreement out of what seems to be an impasse .... I have no doubt that, within the next 48 hours Europe is going to come together and find phrasing that is necessary so we can submit it and move on to do the real work that is necessary.”

For all his talk about deadlines, Dijsselbloem also said there was scope for compromise provided the Greek government commits to the broad outlines of the current program, such as maintaining tight budgetary discipline.

He added that he thought it was “still feasible” that Athens would ask for an extension.

“The request for an extension only commits to one thing: that you keep to the broad lines of the program,” he said.

However, his suggestion that there was “some flexibility” built in the bailout program met with a fair

degree of ambivalence from Varoufakis, who said it was a “nebulous” turn of phrase.

Varoufakis said he had been “perfectly happy to sign there and then” a plan proposed by Pierre Moscovici, the European Commission’s monetary and economic affairs official. Details of the plan were sketchy but did apparently involve Athens putting on hold its anti-austerity measures in return for loans and the start of a 6-month negotiation to a future financial arrangement.

“We were offering to refrain from implementing our program for six months and all we were getting back was a nebulous promise of some flexibility that wasn’t specified,” Varoufakis said.

Malta’s finance minister, Edward Scicluna, worried about the implications of a failure by Athens to request an extension: “Then we won’t meet. There won’t be anything. It will be a disaster.” (ap)

The draft bill itself will be approved in the House’s plenary session today,” Deputy Chairman of the House’s Commission II overseeing governance and regional autonomy Lukman Edy said.

The lawmakers and representatives of the government also agreed that the concurrent regional elections would be held in seven rounds.

The first round would take place in December 2015 to elect the regional heads who would have ended their term in office by the end of this year and the first semester of 2016, he remarked.

The second round of concurrent regional elections would be held in February 2017 to elect those who would end their term in office in the second semester of 2016 and the end of 2017, Edy noted.

In 2027, the Indonesian people would witness the concurrent regional elections held across the country, he stated, adding that the acting governors and acting district heads would fill the vacant positions left by outgoing regional heads until definitive figures are elected by the people. Exports down 9.03 percent in January

JAKARTA - Indonesia’s exports in January 2015 fell 9.03 percent to US$13.30 billion from US$14.62 billion in December 2014, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

The January 2015 exports also tumbled 8.09 percent compared to the same month last year, BPS Chief Suryamin said on Monday.

He said non-oil/non-gas exports in January 2015 reached US$11.22 billion, down 8.51 percent from US$12.22 billion the month before.

Compared to the same month last year, the non-oil/non-gas exports in January 2015 dropped 6.24 percent, he said.

Oil and gas exports also fell 11.75

percent to US$2.07 billion in January 2015 from US$2.35 billion a month earlier, with the export of animal and vegetable fats and oils tumbling 9.55 percent to US$162.6 million. However, jewelry exports jumped 61.77 percent to US$293.4 million.

Based on sectors, non-oil/non-gas exports from the processing industry declined 4.69 percent and mining industry dropped 16.34 percent in January 2015 from the same month last year.

The United States remained the biggest market for Indonesia’s non-oil/non-gas exports in January 2015 with a value of US$1.25 billion, followed by Japan US$1.15 billion and China US$1.08 billion. (ant)

“Therefore, we urge President Joko Widodo not to back down. We must not allow foreigners to dictate our country,” he affirmed.

Drug offenders deserve death penalty as they have indirectly killed other people, he noted.

Earlier, Reuters reported that United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appealed to Indonesia not to execute the prisoners on death row for drug crimes, including the citizens of Australia, Brazil, France, Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria, and the Philippines.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Ban had spoken to Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Thursday “to express his concern at the recent application of capital punishment in Indonesia.” (ant)

Missing earrings, Russian citizen reports spa therapist Tabanan - A Russian citizen named Anna Lopatina, 42, reported a loss of gold earrings to Tabanan Police, Sunday (Feb 15). Fierce fighting on Tuesday appeared to be focused on Debaltseve, a government-held town surrounded by rebel forces that both sides claim to be on their side of the cease-fire line. The issue was not resolved under a cease-fire agreement negotiated last week by the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France.

Separatist leaders said in remarks carried by the rebel mouthpiece Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday afternoon that their forces have pushed the Ukrainian army out of Debaltseve, gaining control over most of the town.

The war in eastern Ukraine has already killed more than 5,600 people and displaced more than a million, according to U.N. figures issued Monday. It has also left the country’s industrial heartland in ruins.

Fighting has stopped or subsided in some parts of war-torn eastern Ukraine, however. Rebel military spokesman Eduard Basurin said Tuesday they separatists had not seen any violations of the ceasefire in the area around the rebel stronghold of Donetsk since 8 p.m.

Tens of thousands of Myanmar ethnic refugees flee to China

BEIJING — Tens of thousands of refugees from Myanmar’s ethnic region of Kokang have fled into the neighboring Chinese province of Yunnan over the past week amid fighting between militant rebels and government troops. Citing government officials, the state-owned news site Yunnan.cn reported Monday that there have been 30,000 border crossings by Myanmar nationals, and that Chinese authorities had offered them food and medical care.

Lin Sen, a volunteer helping refugees in Yunnan, said by phone Tuesday that he estimated 30,000 to 50,000 refugees had escaped the conflict region of Kokang over the past week.

Kokang is dominated by ethnic Han Chinese, and the region has been embroiled in fights since conflicts between the militant rebels led

by Phone Kya Shin and government troops intensified on Feb. 9.

The rebel group’s general secretary, Htun Myat Lin, told The Associated Press by phone on Tuesday that the group is seeking autonomy for Kokang and its ethnic Han Chinese people.

“We want to have a high degree of autonomy where we can manage our own affairs, but we do not wish to split the country of Myanmar,” Htun said. Htun complained that the ethnic Han Chinese have been second-class citizens in Myanmar. “Our ethnicity must have dignity,” he said.

Myanmar only recently emerged from a half-century of military rule. Since assuming power in 2011, the government of President Thein Sein has been trying to strike peace agreements with rebels in resource-rich border regions.(ap)

An appeals court last July acquitted Berlusconi of paying a 17-year-old girl, Karima el-Mahroug, better known as Ruby, for sex on the grounds that he was apparently unaware of her age when she attended the

sex-fuelled parties.

Over the course of that trial, a new investigation began concerning allegations of witness tampering with some of the other “bunga bunga” participants. Berlusconi, his lawyers, el-Mahroug and several women

are under investigation but haven’t been charged.

Apple has hundreds working on electric car project NEW YORK — You’ve heard of the iPhone and iPad. How about the iCar?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple has hired hundreds of people to work on a secret project — code name “Titan” — to develop an electric vehicle. The newspaper cites people familiar with the project who spoke under condition of anonymity.

Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr declined to comment.

The article says that the vehicle will resemble a minivan and that it would be branded as an Apple product.

Apple’s industrial design team is staffed with several people with automaking experience, the article

says. That group includes Marc Newson, a designer who once created a concept car for Ford.

Apple has confirmed that Newson is on its staff.

If Apple does sell an electric car, it will face some competitors.

General Motors announced on Thursday that it will build an electric car, the Chevrolet Bolt, with a 200-mile (320-kilometer) range at a factory near Detroit.

The car will cost $37,500, not including a $7,500 federal tax credit, GM said. The car will be built starting in 2017.

Silicon Valley automaker Tesla

Motors plans to start selling a 200-mile (320-kilometer)-percharge car about the same time.

The price of Tesla’s Model 3, including the tax credit, is likely to be well below $30,000 after the tax credit.

Nissan is already selling an electric car, the Leaf, though not many — 158,000 around the world.

The Journal notes that Apple is always experimenting with new products, many eventually abandoned. But it says the senior people involved in the electric car project suggest that it is serious venture. (ap)

NEW YORK — Mattel and Google are trying to bring the 75year-old View-Master into the 21st century — with some help from smartphones and virtual reality technology.

The original View-Masters gave people a chance to click through colorful photos by inserting reels into the viewing devices.

Targeted at families, the updated View-Master has users insert a smartphone into a headset. A smartphone app will enable the gadget to immerse kids in a slew of virtual

worlds, from far-off cities to outer space. The new View-Masters will be priced at about $30.

Mattel Inc. and Google Inc. unveiled the virtual reality viewer Friday at Mattel’s New York City office. The device launches in the fall, but the companies had no finished product to show off.

But Mattel demonstrated the technology using Google Cardboard, a cardboard attachment that turns smartphones into virtual reality viewers. Reels won’t be necessary for the new View-Master, but they will

enhance the experience. In a demo, there were reels for San Francisco, outer space and dinosaurs. Pointing your headset at one and clicking a button on the side of the headset took you into each of the worlds. A set of four reels will cost $15.

The original View-Master launched at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. Mattel says it has sold more than 100 million of them.

The new version will launch on Android devices first, but the companies plan to make it available on all platforms down the line. (ap)

To combat fraud, Visa wants to track your smartphone

NEW YORK — Those days of calling your bank to let them know that, yes, you really are in Thailand, and yes, you really did use your credit card to buy $200 in sarongs, may be coming to an end.

The payment processing company Visa will roll out a new feature this spring that will allow its cardholders to inform their banks where they are automatically, using the location function found in nearly every smartphone.

Having your bank and Visa know where you are at all times may sound a little like “Big Brother.”

But privacy experts are actually applauding the feature, saying that, if used correctly, it could protect cardholders and cut down on credit card fraud.

Credit and debit card fraud costs consumers and banks billions of dollars each year, and that figure has been growing as data breaches have become more common. The banking industry had $1.57 billion in debit card fraud in 2013 and $4 billion in credit card fraud in 2012, the latest years for which data are available, according to the Federal Reserve.

Facing these high costs, banks and the payment processors have been stepping up their efforts to cut down on fraud, and Visa’s announcement is just one small piece of this drive. JPMorgan Chase’s CEO Jamie Dimon has said repeatedly that his bank spends $250 million overall on cybersecurity every year, and plans to double that spending.

Here’s how it works: starting in April, banks will update their smartphone apps to include Visa’s new location-tracking software.

If the consumer opts in, the Visa software will, over a period of time, establish a customer’s home territory of roughly a 50-mile radius. If the person uses his or her Visa card at stores in that area, those transactions will be considered low risk for fraud.

When that person travels outside their home area, the phone will notify Visa that they’ve entered a new city or country, using either the phone’s cellular data plan or the next time the phone connects to a Wi-Fi network. When that person uses their Visa card for a transaction in that location, Visa will already know he or she is there and will be less likely to flag the card for a fraud alert.

“We will be able to compare the merchant’s location to the most recent cellphone location to show it’s a less risky transaction,” Visa executive Mark Nelsen said.

The feature is optional and can be deactivated at any time. Visa

also says none of the location tracking will be used for marketing purposes.

One type of fraud Visa’s feature will directly address is counterfeit credit cards. Criminals can take stolen credit card information and code it onto a new card using equipment that can be readily purchased online. Counterfeit cards look like any other credit card, but have someone else’s information on the magnetic stripe.

Nelsen said Visa hopes the new security feature will prevent “a good portion” of fraud perpetrated with counterfeit cards, because those cards are often used in a location other than where the actual card owner lives.

Visa’s new anti-fraud measure, which the company announced on Thursday, won’t address every potential fraud situation. If a card user has both their phone and credit cards stolen, for example, Visa wouldn’t necessarily know that the card was at risk of fraudulent use until the cardholder contacted the company. The current version of Visa’s anti-fraud software doesn’t address the possibility of stolen credit card data being used to make online purchases, but a future version will, Nelsen said.

Visa is just one of dozens of financial companies trying to figure out the best way to use new technologies to combat fraud. MasterCard said Friday it is rolling out a pilot program later this year that will integrate biometric data, such as face, voice or fingerprints, into its payment system to help authenticate transactions.

Many travelers have had the experience of having their credit cards declined when using them for the first time in a foreign city or country because the bank assumed the charge was fraudulent. The only solution in those situations was for the cardholders to call the banks or credit card issuer every time they travel to let them know where they will be.

The process is cumbersome and time-consuming for cardholders and also for banks, which incur large expenses to staff call centers to deal with these types of calls from customers. Some banks use systems like text message alerts, but that usually requires customers to reply or call a number before the transaction will go through.

“The goal is to let more of those good transactions go through so we can focus on the real fraud,” Nelsen said. Privacy experts were generally warm to the idea, as long as banks are clear on how a customer’s smartphone location will be used. (ap)

Unfortunately, the meeting on transport tariff adjustment after the fuel price was decreased could not entirely agree to down the tariff.

As information gathered in the field last Monday, only boat and sampan owners agreed to down the crossing tariff.

Originally the sampan owners refused to down the tariff. After they were urged by the transportation officials, sampan owners finally agreed to reduce their tariff.

However, the decrease agreed was only as much as IDR 5,000. “The decline in sea transportation tariff of IDR 5,000 was taken as win-win solution. Within this situation, only the fuel price is downed,” said the Head of Klungkung Transportation, Communications and Informatics Agency, Nengah Sukasta, last Monday.

Additionally, Nengah Sukasta admitted that based on the results of the meeting there was no decrease in the land transportation tariff. It did not only refer to the decision of Organda Bali, but also considered that the decrease only happened to the fuel price. Meanwhile, the other components such as vehicle parts did not decline. Moreover, according to Sukasta, the condition of land passengers was very quiet rather than sea passengers.

“Yes, we also consider the condition in the field. The passengers of sea transport are busier than land transport,” he said.

Obviously, according to Sukasta, the meeting on the tariff adjustment of land transport and sea transport had not been final. The results of the transport tariff adjustment would be further discussed by legal division before defined by the regent of Klungkung. “Well, before approved by the regent through a decree, we will submit first the results of the meeting to legal division to be studied,” he said.

Meanwhile, just to be known, the sea crossing tariff by using inter-county boat from Sanur and Padang Bai to Nusa Dua is averagely charged at IDR 60,000 to IDR 85,000 per person. But after the decrease in fuel price, the crossing tariff by using boat was agreed to decrease as much as IDR 5,000. Meanwhile, the land transportation is still charged as the original tariff, namely on average of IDR 3,000 to IDR 15,000. And it also depends on the distance traveled. (119)

Two inn employees arrested for smuggling drugs into prison

Gianyar — As caught smuggling drugs into Gianyar Prison, two accommodation employees were arrested by Gianyar Police Narcotic Unit, Monday (Feb 16). Marijuana weighing 3.3 grams was inserted into the package of Jinggo rice that would be given to a prisoner of precharge detention with initial Koplar.

Now, Gusti Ngurah Joni Saputra, 23, and Komang Sucipta are still undergoing investigation at Gianyar Police station.

Based on observation of Bali Post in front of the Gianyar Prison on Monday around 3:00 p.m., Ngurah Joni in red shirts just lowered his head when escorted by two personnel of Gianyar Police going out of the prison’s door.

Other than bringing the man from Bona village, Blahbatuh, police officers also brought the evidence of plastic bag containing Jinggo rice and two packs of cracker. “This is Jinggo rice containing drugs to be smuggled into the prison,” explained a police officer while car-

rying Ngurah Joni and the evidence to Gianyar Police station.

When describing the evidence, it was known the Jinggo rice wrapped in banana leaf was inserted with marijuana in plastic bags weighing 3.3 grams. When being interrogated, Ngurah Joni did not know if the package contained illicit goods.

“I was just asked to accompany him (Komang Sucipta—Ed), but I did not know if it contained drugs.

Swear, I did not know,” he said.

Ngurah Joni told that around 12:00 a.m. while working, Komang Sucipta was phoned by his friend named Koplar, denoting a prisoner of pre-charge detention at the Gianyar Prison. The two men were told to take rice at the home of Dewa B living around Gianyar.

“At that home, the rice was taken by Komang, then we went to prison by riding a motorcycle (Supra 125 with license plate DK 2176 XQ—Ed),” he said while adding that he was surprised when the consignment was inspected around 2:00 p.m.,

and the warden found drugs inserted into the wrap of the Jinggo rice.

Meanwhile, Komang Sucipta looked pale and claimed to have known Koplar before he was arrested by the Gianyar Police Narcotic Unit in January 2015. He said Koplar often rented a room at his workplace. But he admitted not to intentionally smuggle marijuana into the Gianyar Prison for Koplar.

“I have known him for long time because he often rented a room at my workplace. Just know he called me again and told to bring him rice taken from the house of Dewa (Dewa B—Ed),” he said.

Meanwhile, the police officer receiving the report directly made a development led by Chief of Gianyar Police Narcotic Unit, Kadek Ardika. It was said that Komang Sucipta was immediately escorted to the house of Dewa B to make a search around 3:15 p.m., but found nothing. “Quickly we have searched the house suspected of being the initial source of the drugs, but nothing

was found,” said Kadek Ardika.

Allegedly after hearing the failed smuggling, there was communication between Koplar and Dewa B, so that the searching could not find any goods. He also questioned why a prisoner of pre-charge detention could bring a mobile phone at the Gianyar Prisoner. “We have an evidence of incoming call from the number, according to recognition of Sucipta, used by Koplar, but how could he bring a mobile phone?,” he asked while adding that local wardens also made an inspection where Koplar was detained, but nothing was found.

When asked about the relationship of Komang Sucipta to Koplar, Ardika said that based on initial information it was known that before arrested Koplar often rented a room at the workplace of Komang Sucipta. “What he (Koplar—Ed) rented a room for is still being investigated, whether it was used for consuming (drugs) or for other purpose. And the long involvement of Komang will also be elaborated, chiefly why

he was willing to only deliver a pack of Jinggo rice and three crackers. Later on, we will also probe Koplar,” he said. (kmb35)

Badung assesses four traditional markets to be unprofitable

Mangupura — Being unable to increase revenue, the Badung government through the Regional Enterprise, (PD) Pasar Badung, is going to review the segmentation of the four traditional markets in the region. The four markets included the Kertasari Market, Petang Market, Sembung Market, and Kapal Market.

It was expressed by Managing Director of PD Pasar Badung, I Made Sutarma, Monday (Feb 16).

According to him, his party managed nine units of market plus one business unit spreading from Petang to Nusa Dua. “Of the nine units, we know from the financial statement if two units have suffered losses, namely the Kertasari and Petang Market, while two other markets could only cover their operating costs, namely the Sembung and Kapal Market,” he said.

The income of the PD Pasar Badung, recognized Made Sutarma, relied on five traditional markets, namely the Cattle Market and Public Market at Beringkit, Kuta Market I and II as well as Nusa Dua Market. “Now, we are only relying on five markets remaining surplus to finance the regional enterprise.

We have to deposit 55 percent of the net profit after tax for a year to regionally generated revenue (PAD). Meanwhile, the remaining 45 percent is managed as produc-

tion service and social fund as well as others,” he explained.

The constraints faced in developing the traditional markets in Badung, said Made Sutarma, happened due to less representative location and the invasion of modern markets that flourished to every nook and cranny of villages so that they made traditional markets go bankrupt.

“Meanwhile, our strategy will make innovation in terms of market segmentation, especially for the

Latu Market. Later on, based on our studies we will change the market segmentation from general market, for example, to special market that is still affordable,” he said.

As mentioned, the Kertasari Market was planned to be transformed into specific market, such as fruit market, where all the fruits on offer were required by Badung people and could be found in the market. “Or it may be used as a flea market, so that the Badung community is no longer necessary to go to Denpasar when looking for junks. However, it must definitely be studied first which option is appropriate and can soon produce,” he said.

He added the Petang Market would remain to be functioned as a general market providing daily needs for Badung people. However, the market would continue to be promoted so that it could become a mainstay. “If at Kapal there has a special market, it just needs to rearrange. Meanwhile, the Sembung Market will be functioned to sell daily needs of local community as the Petang Market,” he concluded.

To note, the revenue target of the PD Pasar Badung in 2014 reached IDR 12,736,475,216 with realization of IDR 12,236,237,148.98.

Meanwhile, the target revenue in 2015 was set at IDR 14, 047,906,354.64. (kmb37)

Favorite schools overcapacity, private schools languishes

Tabanan — Some schools in Tabanan County are considered to have been overcapacity of students. If such condition is allowed to continue, it is feared to disrupt the learning process for students. By and large, the overcapacity schools occur at favorite junior or high schools. Surely the condition makes private schools suffer and go out of business due to lack of students.

A member of Tabanan Education Council, Wayan Kawi, said that ideally a classroom accommodated 20 to 38 students. However, in reality public schools apparently forced themselves to accommodate students as many as possible. As a result, the schools labeled as favorite ones were overcapacity. “There are still public schools whose classroom capacity exceeds an ideal number. Even, they reach 48 students,” he said, Monday (16/2).

He said with the capacity exceeding the quota, some junior, high and vocational schools even opened afternoon classes. Such condition was considered ineffective when teaching and learning activities at schools were in progress. “Just imagine, the teacher cannot probably memorize the names of all students,” he explained.

Another weakness caused by the overcapacity was that the learning process in classroom became not ideal in terms of delivery of materials.

Further, the education council, accord-

ing to Wayan Kawi, a former teacher, recommended to the Tabanan Education Agency to limit the number of students. “Each classroom maximally holds 38 students,” he explained.

From the observation all this time, many public schools held more students than the actual capacity.

The overloaded schools included the SMPN 1, SMPN 2 and SMPN 3 junior high school. “In addition to junior high school, the overloaded students also happened to high school level,” he said.

For high school, the overcapacity happened to the SMAN 1, SMAN 2 and SMAN 1 Kediri, Tabanan. According to him, the school authority should be able to limit because the overcapacity at junior and high school level had become a problem. “In terms of building, it is indeed not a problem,” he said.

Booming student admission at a number of favorite schools had caused them to impose double shifts (morning and afternoon class) so that private schools turned sluggish. The SMP Harapan junior high school, for instance, had got the impact. The school located at Jalan Mataram 12, Malkangin hamlet, Delod Peken, Tabanan was formerly very popular.

Later on, its condition was suffering.

Even, in the 2014-2015 academic year this junior high school did not get any student.

Principal of the SMP Harapan Tabanan junior high school, I Wayan Rateng Suadnyana, previously mentioned the lack of students enrolling at private junior high school was caused by the public junior high schools received a lot of students. Even, a few public schools in Tabanan like the SMPN 1 and SMPN 2 enforced two shifts namely the morning and afternoon class. Besides, more and more public schools were established at remote areas so that no one wanted to go to private schools. “The public schools have received hundreds of students, so that no one went to private schools,” said Rateng.

He said that he could not do much with such condition. Moreover, his party still had a responsibility to 14 students of grade 8 and 29 students of grade 9. “We are still responsible for students of grade 8 and 9 until they entirely graduate,” he said.

He told there were six teachers of civil servant in charge of the school he chaired. Besides, there were five teachers of the foundations and six administration staff. His party hoped the Education Agency would not soon withdraw the civil servant-teachers in charge. He wanted the process of learning for all students could be accomplished first. Actually there were nine civil servant-teachers, while three teachers had been moved because they did not get teaching hours. Incidentally

there had been other teachers. So, the three teachers were finally moved in order to get teaching hours. “It’s a pity that they cannot get teaching hours as it has something to do with their certification,” he said.

Related to school survival, Rateng entirely submitted to the Harapan Bangsa Foundation, the institution managing the school. “We leave it entirely on the policy of the foundation for the continuation of this school,” he said.

When confirmed in separate place, the Head of Tabanan Agency, Putu Santika, did not dismiss if a number of schools indeed had students exceeding ideal capacity. He also confirmed that fewer students in classroom would make the learning process more effective. “But the school-based management system

He argued it was different from the previous period where there was standardization of school such as the label as Pioneering International Standard School (RSBI) and National Standard School (SSN). “Now, it has been deleted, so that we return it to respective school,” he explained.

His party only suggested holding 40 students in a classroom as ideal number and it would be better. “But we are unable to reject students,” he explained.

TANJUNG BENOA - Bali was the final destination for Dwiki Dharmawan who conducted a world class concert with Jimmy Haslip (Bass), Chad Wackerman (Drums) and Indonesiafs top guitarist Tohpati last Saturday, February 14th 2015 at Taman Bhagawan Bali.

This performance followed the first concert in Suhana Hall Jakarta on February 10th and concert in Bandung February 11th.

This tour promoted Dwiki Dharmawanfs latest Album EP CD recorded in America titled gPASSION, LOVE, & LIFEh. The tour also is a showcase for the “Road to Jazz Market by The Sea 2015”, set for 14-16 August 2015 at Taman Bhagawan Bali.

His latest album gPassion, Love, Lifeh supported by legendary musicians Jimmy Haslip (Bass), Chad Wackerman (Drums), and two of Indonesiafs best guitarists Dewa Budjana and Tohpati, complemented by legendary violinist member of Mahavishnu Orchestra Jerry Goodman will mark the 30 years of Dwikifs works. gPassion, Love, Lifeh will be recorded live by Jeff Lorber at JHL Studio, Pacific Palisades California and produced under the label gGitarku Recordsh owned by, among them, Dewa Budjana, in cooperation with MoonJune Records based in New York which will handle international promotion, marketing and distribution.

For shows in Jakarta and Bandung, guitarists Dewa Budjana will also perform, but in Bali, the tour featured guitarist Tohpati collaborating with Jembranafs Jegog lead by I Nyoman Windha.

Dwiki created 6 (six) new pieces in his latest album i.e. Return of the Lamafa, The Dark of the Light, Bromo, Whale Dance, So Far So Close, Jembrana’s Fantasy and rearranged 2 of his previous pieces i.e.

NYC 2050 (from Nuansa album, 2002), and Arafura (from World Peace Orchestra album, 2009).

In this version of Arafura, Jerry Goodnan will be performing as the awaken violin player member of Mahavisnu Orchestra together with John Mc Laughlin and Jan Hammer.

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon.

The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

This isn’t the lineup for an upcoming pop concert, but rather for Sunday’s Academy Awards.

“We want to entertain,” said Neil Meron, producing his third consecutive Oscar ceremony with Craig Zadan. “And there’s no better entertainment than to do it with music.” Host Neil Patrick Harris will perform an original song by the Oscar-winning writers behind “Let It Go,” the producers said. Called “Moving Pictures,” the musical number will set a “subliminal theme” for the evening, Meron said.

“It really is celebratory about movies and yet it’s kind of cheeky in a way,” he said. “But yet it has a beautiful musical motif which... we integrate throughout the show as kind of a call-back theme.”

Added Zadan: “We didn’t want to do a musical number that could have been on the Tonys, or anywhere else for that matter.” “It’s a multimedia musical number,” he said, “something that we’ve not done before.”

Music is part of the production pair’s professional DNA, though. The two produced the “The Sound of Music” and “Peter Pan” live TV specials, as well as the movie musicals “Hairspray” and “Chicago,” which won the best picture Oscar in 2003.

The producers said they started booking musical acts even before they learned the year’s nominees. But they were delighted with the nominated original songs.

“We were smiled upon in that respect,” Meron said.

A spate of stars will bring those songs to life on the Oscar stage.

Common and Legend are set to perform their song, “Glory,” from “Selma.” Levine will sing “Lost Stars” from “Begin Again.” Ora will take on Diane Warren’s song from “Beyond the Lights,” ‘’Grateful.” Tegan & Sara will join with The Lonely Island for “The Lego Movie” song, “Everything is Awesome.” McGraw will perform Glen Campbell’s song “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” from the documentary about his struggle with Alzheimer’s, “Glen Campbell... I’ll Be Me.” The producers wouldn’t say what Hudson, Gaga and other entertainers, including Jack Black and Anna Kendrick, will sing. NEW YORK - Pharrell Williams has a “Happy” deal for a series of children’s picture books.

The Grammy Awardwinning performer has an agreement with Putnam Books for Young Readers for four picture books, starting with one inspired by his hit song.

Putnam announced Tuesday the book, “Happy,” will be published Sept. 22 and will feature photographs of children from around the world “celebrating what it means to be happy.” It plans a first printing of 250,000 copies.

Pharrell has won 10 Grammys, including two for “Happy.”

“Happy” was featured on the soundtrack of “Despicable Me 2” and was an Oscar nominee last year for best song. (ap)

Security tightened around Denpasar`s Kerobokan Prison

DENPASAR - Bali Police, on Tuesday, beefed up security arrangements around has stated that they would be transferred this Kerobokan prison in Denpasar in the run up to the relocation of the two Australian week.

Based on observation on Tuesday, ten policemen and several others in plainclothes were seen on guard around the prison.

During regular days, only two policemen are seen patrolling the prison, but on Tuesday, the number was significantly high ahead of the
