Dwayne Johnson hits a parked truck in Massachusetts BOSTON — Actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says he sideswiped a truck while filming his latest movie in Massachusetts.

The “San Andreas” action star took to Instagram on Monday to say he’d recently hit a parked truck and damaged its side mirror while on route to the movie set. Johnson says truck owner Audie Bridges recognized him and refused to accept money for the damage. He thanked the Wakefield resident for “being so cool about the whole thing” before pos-

ing for a picture with him by the damaged truck. The Boston Globe reports Bridges confirmed Monday the incident happened about a month ago and he was able to fix the damaged mirror himself. Johnson is in Massachusetts filming “Central Intelligence,” an action comedy also starring Kevin Hart. (ap)

Tourist Arrivals to Badung Soar, Garbage Volume Follows

Peak tourist season contributes to an increase in the number of visitors to Badung, but it also contributes to an increase in the volume of waste in this region. According Badung’s Sanitation and Landscaping Agency’s (DKP) data, the volume of garbage rises significantly during this time of year. “The impact (of the surge in tourist visits—Ed) is significant, especially in tourism facilities, such as hotels and restaurants, as indicated by the increase in the volume of garbage produced everyday: between 252 tons to 275 tons,” said Putu Eka Merthawan, Head of DKP Badung. The volume of garbage produced, said Merthawan, only increases in hotels and restaurants,

while the volume produced by the general public remains about the same. “The amount of road side garbage remains stable with a daily average of about 10 tons. This is because travelers tend not to litter,” he said. In order to cope with the surge in the volume of garbage during peak season, the DKP performs garbage pick-up three times a day. “We apply special measures to cope with

the increase of garbage that occurs during peak tourist season, including dispatching DKP personnel to pick up and transport garbage away from tourist centres like Kuta, three times a day, so that garbage is not seen to be piling up on the streets,” he explained. Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (IHRA) -Badung Chapter, IGN Rai Suryawijaya, commented that domestic tourist arrivals to Badung County are constantly increasing -at a rate of about 10-15 percent. “Currently hotel occupancy rates have increased from 60 percent to about 70 percent due to the start of

the school holidays for domestic travelers. Typically foreign travelers start arriving en mass starting in July and August (also known as “summer” in the northern hemisphere),” he said. According to Suryawijaya, the surge of domestic travelers will be most felt by hotel operators running three star hotels, city hotels, villas, budget hotels and cottages: “Only a small percentage of travelers coming from Jakarta, Surabaya and Java stay in five-star hotel”. He added that the trend of tourists’ visits to Bali -especially to Badung has been increasing by about

14 percent every year. “Unfortunately, the number of accommodations such as hotels, condotels and villas has increased by 20 percent. This is hazardous to the industry because it can result in price wars because the supply is not in line with the demand,” he concluded.
