DENPASAR - The first trial for law suit of Bali Governor against three defendants which were the Chief Editor of Bali Post, Nyoman Wirata (defendant I); PT. Bali Post (defendant II) and the reporter of Bali Post, I Ketut Bali Putra Ariawan (defendant III) was held in Denpasar High Court on Thursday, December 15, 2011.

However, the congestion situation occurring recently has been a scourge for Bali as a world tourist destination. People Salt Source Association (Pugar) consultant from Panji Sakti Singaraja University, I Wayan Rideng, last Wednesday (14/12) stated the salt association group in this village got central government aid of IDR 800 million which hoped can increase salt production in quality and quantity. Sadly this aid is only at Pejarakan when actually there are a number of Buleleng shores that has the potential like Kubutambahan and Tejakula. Rideng hoped the aid will be given to these areas too so salt production
in Buleleng can increase the people prosperity. Rideng continued and stated that Buleleng salt production seemed not maximal due to many problems the farmers are facing such as human resource, technology knowledge and capital especially technology in marketing wise. All this time salt was packaged in a simple way sold to be consumed when actually if its packaged well it could be exported as a spa and batik material causing it sold IDR 500 per kilogram.

The increase is affected by decreasing yield of farmers as the result of bad weather condition. Nyoman Murniati, a foodstuff trader in Badung Market, Wednesday (Dec 14), said that production of farmers especially that brought in from Java decreased during the rainy season. As consequence, collectors were unable to meet the market demand in Bali. These conditions had an impact on the increase of their selling prices. “Moreover, at this time before the celebration of Christmas and New Year 2012, the demand automatically increases. Therefore, by the end of this year the circumstance was predicted to be the same. If there were price hikes, they merely related to the law of business behind the busy transactions of the public demand. Petrol stations in Denpasar lack of diesel fuel Denpasar (Bali Post)—
A number of petrol stations in Denpasar area run out of diesel fuel stock. Observation at several petrol stations on Wednesday (Dec 14) around 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Local Time indicated that some petrol stations posted a sign saying “Sorry, we run out of diesel fuel.â€? One of the petrol stations on Jalan Kamboja, for example, also posted the same sign if its diesel fuel had run out. $FFRUGLQJ WR DQ RIÂżFHU RI WKH SHWURO station, Pertamina usually supplied the diesel fuel stocks of 12,000 kiloliters per day but that day only got 8,000 kiloliters. Similar condition was also seen in the petrol station located on Jalan Gatot Subroto Timur, Denpasar. The station also posted the same sign if the diesel fuel also ran out. Previously, the amount of diesel fuel delivery to petrol stations came to 130,000 kiloliters (KL) per day, now it had been increased to 150,000 KL.“The distribution of diesel fuel is still relatively normal, so do not panic. I do hope that people remain tranquil,� he said. Currently, the number of petrol stations in Bali reached 178 units and their fuel stock remained secure. to be misgiving as unable to meet the market demand due to lacking of water supply. He added the damaged irrigation channels had caused at least 6 hectares of farmland to hardly get water supply. The judge in Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy case said he would deliver a verdict on January 9 as the longrunning and politically charged trial came to a close. “I will deliver my decision on January 9,” judge Mohamad Zabidin Diah told a packed courtroom in the capital Kuala Lumpur, setting the stage for a climactic ruling with potentially major implications for pivotal upcoming elections. Zabidin set the verdict date after allowing defence lawyers a final chance to rebut the prosecution’s
charge that the former deputy prime minister and one-time leader-inwaiting sodomised a 27-year-old male aide in June 2008. Sodomy is illegal in Muslimmajority Malaysia and Anwar, 64, faces up to 20 years in jail if convicted. Legal experts say a guilty verdict could disqualify Anwar from contesting elections widely expected to be called by Prime Minister Najib Razak within months. Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

The sugarcane growers grouped in the Association of Indonesian Sugarcane Farmers (APTRI) hailed among others from West Java, Central Java, East Java, Lampung and North Sumatra provinces. They believed national sugar stocks were still enough to meet consumption until May 2012. “The plan to import sugar is not realistic because it is not based on the real sugar stocks,” APTRI Chairman Soemitro Samadikoen said. The association also asked the government to issue policies which served sugarcane growers` interests, including maintaining presi-
dential regulation number 57 of 2004 which declared sugar as goods under surveillance. It said sugarcane growers were currently encountered with unfavorable policies including the trade minister`s decree number 111 of 2009 which it said had led to the rampant circulation of white refined sugar (crystal sugar. APTRI said white refined sugar which was supposed to meet demand from food and beverage manufacturers had penetrated the domestic market at the expense of local sugarcane growers. “Based on our findings from
several parts of Indonesia, refined sugar produced by PT Makassar Tene and bearing Bola Manis brand is widely circulating in the market,” APTRI Deputy Secretary General Nur Khabsyin said. The association urged the government to stop the circulation of refined sugar in the market and take firm measures against those involved in it. “The circulation of refined sugar also has an adverse impact on the sugar trade system as a whole,” he said. At the rally the sugarcane farmers also asked the government not to issue permits for the construction of new sugar mills. “But if the government insists on licencing new sugar mills, APTRI will ask the new sugar mills to mill smallholder sugarcane rather than raw sugar,” Soemitro said.

JAKARTA - Indonesia may issue a rule next year requiring telecommunications companies, including Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM), operating there to build local data centers, a move the nation’s biggest smartphone seller has resisted. The government has informed the companies of the coming regulation, an element of the 2008 law concerning information and electronic transactions, said Tifatul Sembiring, Indonesia’s minister of communication and information technology. “Building a data center isn’t easy,” Sembiring said in Jakarta. “And it is expensive. We have told them to be ready.” The pending requirement highlights the mounting challenges RIM faces in expanding overseas as India, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have expressed concern they can’t monitor e-mail traffic originating in their countries. The United Arab Emirates abandoned threats to ban BlackBerry traffic in October 2010, without saying whether the Waterloo, Ontario-based company had met its demands. RIM will “work through” any issues the Indonesian government has to avert any potential service interruptions, David Paterson, RIM’s vice president of government relations, said in a Dec. 10 telephone interview. In Bali, this youth club actually play important role in preparing young generation to maintain their valuable cultural heritages or to prepare themselves for inheriting customary responsibility. With their male counterpart, here the young girls also learn to play drama or more complex traditional arts. Popular genres of performance showed are pure entertainment and the one in combination with sacred dance. The latter usually features Calonarang. The combination of Google’s software and Samsung’s hardware makes the Galaxy Nexus one of the best candidates to compete with Apple’s latest iPhone, though its price is steep. Overall, the software looks fresher and less cluttered. The virtual “buttons” that usually sit at the bottom of the screen have been redesigned. There’s still a “home” and a “back” button, but no “menu” button to pull up various options within an app. Instead, there’s now a “recent apps” button that shows what you’ve been doing lately on the phone. Another neat change: The buttons are completely virtual, so they change directions when you flip the phone sideways and disappear when you’re viewing photos or videos.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. — An unexpected but fruitful relationship has blossomed between two potent forces in the swamps of South Florida: the American crocodile, and a nuclear power plant. The reptile has made it off the endangered species list thanks in part to 168 miles of manmade cooling canals surrounding Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant in the southeastern corner of the Florida peninsula. It turns out that Florida Power and Light was building prime croc habitat just as virtually every other developer was paving it over. Federal wildlife officials give the state’s largest public utility part of the credit for a five-fold increase in the species’ population in Florida. There are only two other sanctuaries for the crocodiles, which are still considered threatened. “The way the cooling canal system was designed actually turned out to be pretty good for crocodile nesting,” said John Wrublik, a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. “It wasn’t designed for crocodiles, but they’ve done a very good job of maintaining that area.” Hundreds of crocodiles, as long as 15 feet and as heavy as one ton, roam the swampland surrounding the power plant. They’re monitored by wildlife biologists hired by the utility, who sometimes need quick reflexes to keep all their fingers. The American crocodile is often confused with its plentiful cousin, the alligator. Alligators are black, have broad, rounded snouts and are found throughout the deep South. Crocodiles are grayish, have narrow tapered snouts and are so sensitive to cold that their only U.S. habitat is in South Florida.

FIM publishes provisional 2012 calendar for MotoGP MotoGP’s ruling body, FIM, has revealed another provisional calendar for the 2012 season, with little change from the previous version. The most significant change is the start of the season moving forward by a week, with the Qatar Grand Prix now taking place on 8 April rather than on 15 April as published in the calendar revealed in September. The Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez has also now been confirmed, the race having appeared as subject to a new contract in the summer version of the calendar. Sachsenring has been added to the schedule for the German Grand Prix, although the event is still subject to the finalisation of a contract.

SEBASTIAN Vettel has added yet another accolade at the end of his remarkable 2011 campaign - by being voted as the best Formula 1 driver of the year in AUTOSPORT’s exclusive team principals’ top 10 rankings. In the now annual poll, Vettel emerged as a clear winner ahead of Jenson Button - with last year’s winner Fernando Alonso dropping two places down to third. The annual team principals’ verdict is compiled by getting the top ten driver rankings of every boss, which are kept secret, and then converting their rankings into the F1 points’ system (25-18-15-12-10-8-64-2-1). The final scores are added up to discover which driver the team bosses overall believed had done the best job throughout the campaign. Vettel is the first world champion since Lewis Hamilton in 2008 to earn the top place in the drivers’ rankings. Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner believed that it would have been wrong for any driver other than Vettel to have come out on top
on the back of his dominant campaign. “It would have been a surprise if any driver other than Sebastian would have been voted as the driver of the year, after the season he’s had in 2011,” Horner told AUTOSPORT. “He won 11 races, finished second in five, third in one, had a fourth place and one DNF which is quite a remarkable run of results. “On top of which, he scored a season record of 15 pole positions to secure his second consecutive world championship title. Therefore he fully deserves to have been recognised as the outstanding driver of 2011.” Paul di Resta was the leading rookie driver, earning 44 points to take seventh place, while Heikki Kovalainen’s efforts for Team Lotus were rewarded with ninth place. This year’s voters were: Horner, Martin Whitmarsh, Stefano Domenicali, Ross Brawn, Eric Boullier, Frank Williams, Vijay Mallya, Peter Sauber, Tony Fernandes, Colin Kolles and John Booth. Scuderia Toro Rosso declined to take part.
