Tend to lead towards economics only Denpasar (Bali Post) -
Many efforts done y the investors to have a land in Bali and even they want the sea as their business property. The plan of reclamation of Benoa Bay with the disguise as the island to avoid tsunami is considered the effort to rule Bali’s economic and environment by investors cooperating with the rulers of the island. According to the lecturer in Udayana University Prof. I Gusti Made Sutjaya, reclamation in the bay area will give more negative effect for Bali. It will cause a change in social and culture and also increasing the gap between the rich and the poor.
The investor will control the area and the Balinese only will get the rest because of the capital flight. “The reclamation will only trigger social change. The question is what will be the return for Bali. Do Bali will get benefit from it besides envi-
ronmen ron mental tal damage?” damag da mage?” e? he asked. asked as ked.. ronmental The professor totally disagrees plan “If there with the reclamation plan. will be reclamation for 838 hectares, there must be a study to know the implication to the island. Do the locals in the area ready to cope with the massive change,” Sutjaya said. He is also regretted the attitude of the leader of Bali which is not very consistent on the reclamation plan. The leader is not loyal with his word and even seems to have cooperated with the investors. “From all of the statement given by the governor, there is no
consis con sisten tency cy in it. At first, first, he didn’t didn’ didn t consistency know there will be reclamation and next he admitted that there is such a plan after the letter is published. It shows that the leader is not a man of his word,” he added. Prof. Sutjaya said that the power tend to corrupt. There is a possibility that the leader is using any way they can to make the plan run. He hope that the leader of Bali can think about the matter carefully and hearing the opinion of the Balinese people. “Here, the government must be wise in handling this issue. The decision must not only base on the
benefit of some some people people but but must mustt benefit be for all of us,” he added. Prof. Sutjaya also stated that the reclamation plan is still not decided yet. However, after the letter got out to public, the government should have a certain solution for it. “If there is a chaos in the mindset of the leaders in Bali then the plan must be postponed. There must be a certain decision on the issue by the executive and legislative. Both of them must do a flashback and see the matter again. Don’t force the issue because we live in a democracy country,” said the professor. (kmb29)
