Cosby sex assault jury ends third day of without verdict NORRISTOWN - The jurors deciding comedian Bill Cosby’s fate at his sexual assault trial delved into his accuser’s account on Wednesday, their third day of deliberations, but failed to reach a verdict.

The jury was dismissed for the night at about 9 p.m. (0100 GMT).

The court reporter read back portions of Andrea Constand’s testimony describing how Cosby drugged her and then sexually assaulted her at his Philadelphia-area home in 2004. Later in the day, the jury reviewed Cosby’s six-hour 2005 police interview in which he acknowledged giving Constand anti-allergy pills but characterized the encounter as consensual “petting.”

Cosby, 79, has denied Constand’s allegations, as well as dozens of similar accusations made by women stretching back decades. Only Constand’s claims are recent enough to have led to criminal charges.

The jury began deliberations in Norristown, Pennsylvania, on Monday and stayed late each night since then. They have now deliberated for a total of nearly 30 hours and will resume on Thursday morning.

Cosby, the star of the 1980s hit TV series “The Cosby Show,” did not testify during the trial but his account of the night in question was shown to jurors in his sworn depositions in 2005 and 2006 during Constand’s civil lawsuit as well as the 2005 police interview.

As the deliberations continued on Wednesday, the crowd outside the Montgomery County courthouse appeared to have grown.

“A lot of people looked up to him. I did when I was a kid,” said Roland Jennings, 66, who drove about 20 miles (32 km) from West Chester to wait for the verdict. “He brought this on himself.”

It was unclear how close the jury was to reaching a decision.

Since starting deliberations, the jurors have re-examined both Cosby’s and Constand’s versions of the encounter, with particular focus on the pills he gave her beforehand.

Constand testified that the pills, which Cosby did not identify at the time, left her disoriented and unable to resist. The comedian said in depositions that he gave her the common allergy drug Benadryl and insisted she was a willing participant in the “petting” that followed. (rtr)

YouTube singer Austin Jones arrested on child pornography charges Austin Jones was charged with two counts of production of child pornography, according to a complaint filed on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Chicago, where he appeared. He is being held in federal custody pending another hearing on Thursday.

Jones has racked up millions of views on YouTube, a unit of Alphabet Inc, with his covers of pop songs and has more than 200,000 followers across his Twitter, Instagram and YouTube channels.

Jones’ attorney Gerardo Solon Gutierrez said by phone that the singer

was “innocent until proven guilty.”

His arrest marked another scandal involving YouTube’s social media personalities. In February, YouTube and Walt Disney Co cut ties with influential Swedish social media star PewDiePie, who boasted some 53 million YouTube followers, after he posted a series of videos deemed anti-Semitic.

According to the federal complaint, Jones used Facebook and Apple Inc’s iMessage service to request sexually explicit videos from girls aged about 14 to 15.

The documents allege that Jones

sent numerous messages to two 14year-old female fans from 2016 and 2017 in which he instructed them to expose their genitals in videos sent to him through Facebook.

A review of his social media activities showed that “his primary fan base appears to be teenage girls,” the court documents said, adding that Facebook shut down Jones’ page a month ago due to his involvement with minors on the network.

Facebook Inc said in a statement on Wednesday: “We have zero tolerance for sharing or soliciting child exploitative images or videos on Facebook, and we cooperate with law enforcement agencies that investigate these crimes.” (rtr)

Family of freed student adjusting to ‘different reality’

WYOMING — The father of an American college student who was imprisoned in North Korea and was returned to his home state of Ohio in a coma says the family is “adjusting to a different reality.” Fred Warmbier told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Wednesday that his son, Otto, was “terrorized and brutalized” during his 17-month detention and has been in a coma for more than a year. “The day after he was sentenced, he went into a coma,” the father said in an interview scheduled to air Thursday night. He said he and his wife, Cindy, only learned of their son’s condition last week.

The 22-year-old University of Virginia student was medically evacuated from North Korea and arrived in Cincinnati late Tuesday.

He was then taken by ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman did not provide an update on his condition, but said his parents planned to hold a Thursday morning news conference. Their public appearance will be at Wyoming High School, one of Ohio’s toprated schools. Warmbier graduated

from there in 2013 as class salutatorian and had played soccer.

Residents of the northern Cincinnati suburb tied blue-and-white ribbons, the school colors, to trees near the family’s home. Joy at his release was mixed with concern over his condition. In its first official comment since Warmbier was returned home, North Korea said it released him over humanitarian reasons. The state-run Korean Central News Agency on Thursday said he had been sentenced to hard labor but did not comment on

his medical condition.

Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said there should be an investigation into what happened to Warmbier leading to this “tragic situation.”

Richardson, a Democrat, credited the Department of State with securing Warmbier’s return from North Korea without any preconditions but said a forceful response from the U.S. government would be required “if its determined that

there was a cover-up and Otto’s condition was not disclosed and he didn’t get proper treatment.”

City councilwoman Jenni McCauley said the tight-knit community was “thrilled” to have Warmbier back. “Even though they’re saddened by his condition, they’re just glad for the family that he is home,” McCauley said. “For any parent, this is their worst nightmare. ... We’re hoping that he will be OK.” Warmbier was serving a 15-year prison term with hard labor in North Korea after he tearfully confessed that he tried to steal a propaganda banner while visiting the country.

Such detentions in the totalitarian nation have added to tensions between Washington and Pyongyang. Three Americans remain in custody.

as political pawns. North Korea accuses Washington and South Korea of sending spies to overthrow its government. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Tuesday that his department was continuing “to have discussions” with North Korea about the release of the other three imprisoned American citizens. When asked

by Fox News what he would tell the families of those detained, Fred Warmbier said, “I wouldn’t know what to say to them. Jembrana reconstructs Semar Pegulingan

Results in Kubu Reod (slanted hut) DENPASAR - The Manik Pasupati Semar Pegulingan Gamelan Troupe had the opportunity to perform at the 39th Bali Arts Festival in the Angsoka Stage of the Denpasar Art Center on Wednesday (Jun. 14). This art troupe from Puseh Agung customary village, Tengah, Negara, presented the result of a reconstruction of the semara pegulingan gamelan piece that is considered to be new to the region. “This is a new gamelan piece for our region in Jembrana and was composed to suit the character of the gamelan”, said the leader of Manik Pasupati gamelan troupe, I Kade Arya Parjana.

Parjana explained that the reconstruction of the gamelan piece known as semara pegulingan resulted in a pategak gamelan composition entitled the Kubu Reod (literally, slanted shack). This title refers to ancient culture that remains to survive in the modern era. Although it may appear slanted, it can still provide serenity to everyone who sits there.

“I think this gamelan composition refers to the festival’s theme of (Ulun Danu- protecting water) as slanted shacks are also commonly found in rice paddy fields and are associated with agrarian traditions. During harvest season, farmers use these shacks to unwind when they become tired”, he said.

He added that the gamelan troupe is also supported by the DJ Kepakisan young artist community and the Gayatri dance studio in their performance of four gamelan compositions and dance performances including the Kubu Reod. The three other compositions are; lengker cenik, the Legong Kuntul dance, and the Jauk Manis dance. Lengker cenik is one of the gambuh-style gamelan compositions used to accompany Panji Dance or Patih Manis using the tetekep lebeng. But, the semara pegulingan gamelan music often uses tetekep tembung.

“A total of 25 gamelan players and five dancers are involved in this performance who rehearsed for a month and a half. This was a very short time to prepare, but we have performed at the BAF five times already so it made it easier for us to get ready for the gong kebyar, the puppet gender competition and others”, he explained.

Kuntul dance depicts a group of herons looking for food in paddy fields while playing with their companions.

Instructor of the Legong Kuntul dance, Ni Wayan Ardani, said that the legong dancers, including herself, are mostly students. Despite the relative difficulty of this 20 minute dance, they manged to master it a month.

“Legong is indeed a bit difficult. The important thing is to have mastered the basic postures and techniques so that this

fast dance can be memorized more easily”, said this dance instructor from Gayatri dance studio. Breathing is really important in this dance, as is good balance, without the proper techniques the dancers are quickly exhausted, she added.

“In essence, we control the breath so that when there is a movement that requires a lot of energy, we focus there while for the slower movements our strength is not focused so much on the breath”, she said. (kmb32)

10 Balinese arts maestros show off correct style before the staging of the classical prembon on Ratna Kanda stage of the Denpasar Art Center on Wednesday (Jun. 14).

Dibia explained that this performance of the classical prembon was quite rare as normally it is danced by 5 artists while here a total of ten Balinese art maestros (and senior dancers) took part: I Wayan Dibia, Cokorda Raka Tisnu, I Made Djimat, Ni Nyoman Candri, Ni Ketut Karmini, I Gusti Putu Sudarta, I Ketut Kodi, I Made Bandem, I Gusti Lanang Ardika and I Nyoman Catra.

“We would like to show the correct format. In other words if they (young artists) are able to follow, it’s okay. But at least, they know there is a standard that can be used as a

benchmark”, added this professor of the ISI Denpasar.

Dibia explained that the basis of prembon is mixture as in a combination of what is known as prembon masks and galuh or mantras.. There is also prembon that can be combine masks, the baris dance, jauk and barong. Then, there is the dominant prembon or also known as arja operetta that is supplemented with several other additional plays. The classical prembon that was staged by the maestros was in the form of the prembon mask. “So, the structure applies a mask performance format.

However, in the middle of the story there are characters who do not wear masks, namely the princess, galuh and condong”, he added. The ap-

pearance of the maestros, continued Dibia, was also supported by senior gamelan players consisting of ISI Denpasar lecturers, an alumnus and senior gamelan players from outside ISI. The duration of the performance that staged the storyline “Oath and Pledge Kebo Iwa” was a considerable 2.5 hours. Although the players are all considered experts they still practiced before the show.

“We rehearsed for two days. The roles had been assigned earlier so everyone knew what to do. We never perform without first practicing” explained the artist wearing “the old mask” and playing the role of Gajah Mada and the Pasung Grigis figure.

Dibia explained that the figure

of Kebo Iwa who featured in the play depicts the promise of a prominent vice regent in the age of the Bedahulu Kingdom. He vows to always be faithful and obedient to the king’s order for the unity of the archipelago. Although the unitary state of the RI (NKRI) was not yet formed at that time, this classical prembon storyline implicitly speaks to the current condition of this country. “The storyline itself is not talking about the NKRI. It is up to the audience to make such associations. This is where the strength of performing arts lies. Hopefully this performance by the maestros can inspire your artists- particularly dancers” concluded this passionate elder. (kmb32)

Amazing show at Dosso Dossi Fashion Show

ANTALYA - Famous supermodels Adriana Lima, Isabeli Fontana, Izabel Goulart and Ana Beatriz Barros were on catwalk at Dosso Dossi Fashion Show.

Dosso Dossi Fashion Show, Turkey’s greatest fashion show put its signature on another world-wide rip-roaring event. The fashion show, with the colloboration of Dosso Dossi Fashion Show and The Land of Legends witnessed almost a “Brazilian storm”.

The Land of Legends, Turkey’s biggest wellness, shopping and entertainment center hosted a smashing fashion show. The special catwalk set-up on the pool in front of Legends Tower with a height of 111 m hosted Adriana Lima, Isabellie Fontana, Izabel Goulart and Ana Beatriz Barros, famous Brazilian models of Victoria’s Screet. During the fashion show that took place with the participation of about 5000 guests, each model displayed 3 dresses. Viktoria Odintsova, one of Russia’s most-talkedabout names who is nicknamed as “crazy model” was also at the fashion show, concept and choreography of which was prepared by Öner Evez and Yakup Biçer.

One of the surprises of the show which was accompanied by a visual feast was the mini concerts. Ayse Hatun Önal and Nikolay Baskov, one of Russia’s famous singers gingered up the show with their one-song performances. 50 Turkish models accompanied Victoria’s Secret’s super models.

The WAYANG Wong or ‘human puppet’ of Tejakula is an art form that has managed to survive despite the swift currents of globalization. This traditional dance has been received time and time again over the generations, though as it turns out the costumes of the dancers have changed considerably over the last few decades.

Today Wayang Wong dancers wear quite luxurious costumes, whereas before the 1980’s it was enough for the dancers to dawn batik cloth and very simple accessories for these performances.

Tejakula’s Wayang Wong (human puppet) dance is one of Buleleng’s older art forms and includes not only dance but also theater and pslamody. It is no wonder that this art from handed down through eh generations is defined as an intangible world heritage by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The sacred version of Tekakula’s Wayang Wong can only be performed at large scale ceremonies at trinity temples, Danka Temples ngenteg linggih. Before being danced, the masks used by the dancers must go through the bhakti pamungkah ceremony held at Maksan temple.

This human puppet show also has a profane version intended for entertainment. This version can be danced outside of the context of religious ceremonies. In such cases different masks are used.

Tejakulas’ Wayang Wong human puppet shows share a lesson told through a story of the battle of good and evil taken from the Ramayana epic. Nowadays the dancers use luxurious costumes with outer garments that are covered in gold leaf motifs of golden radiance, white trousers, a Kris knife at their back and colorful neck and head ornaments.

Komang, Chairman of the Teja Kukus Foundation, who is involved preserving the art of Wayang Wong, elaborate such costumes only emerged in the 1980s. “innovations to the costumes emerged after the establishment of the preservation foundation” he said after taking part in the Cultural Dialogue held by culture agency at Sasana Budaya on Tuesday (Jun 13).

Previously, he explained, Wayang Wong dancers used very simple pants, batik cloth a strap and a simple neck ornament with nothing in their hair. “I still remember that before the 1980s, the elders danced with very simple costumes”, he said.

The rapid flow of globalization coupled with the increasingly fast paced lifestyle of society, means that the art of the human puppet dance is facing formidable challenges. Staging of Wayang Wong –especially when it is meant for entertainment does not draw a lot of interest from the younger generation. Komang therefor believes that they need to come up with innovative ways of keeping audiences interested, such as making jokes that are related to contemporary life during the show. “We can still keep the style of the dance as it is, innovation does not have to eliminate the essence, this way we can preserve this heritage”, he added.

Head of the Buleleng Culture Agency, Putu Tastra Wijaya, mentioned that in order to interest the public in watching traditional art performances, like the human puppet for instance, innovations are indeed needed. Presenting traditional songs in combination with contemporary dance and music for example could interest certain groups of people, he said. “ Wayang Wong holds great philosophical wisdom that must be maintained amidst innovations” he affirmed. 29 companies threatened to have their environemntal permit revoked

MANGUPURA — Dozens of companies in the district of Badung are threatened with having their environmental permits revoked for not complying with regulations. A total of 29 companies have been issued letters of reprimand by the local environment and sanitation agency (DLHK), demanding that they correct their practices.

Head of the DLHK Badung, Putu Eka Merthawan, said that the worst violations are companies not reporting their business at all though the most common violations are cases of buildings not being up to the standards required by the environmental permit that had been issued to them.

“For example, a building permit is registered at location A, but the building g was in fact built elsewhere.

This is classified as a misuse of permit. We reprimand a lot of companies for this type of infraction. If our reprimand is ignored, we can revoke the permit,” said Eka Merthawan as the 29 companies were issued letters of reprimand in Badung on Tuesday (Jun 13).

Merthawan explained that since 2016, at least 150 companies have been declared to be in violation of building regulations. Of that number a total of 29 companies were immediately given letters of reprimand requiring them to correct their mistakes..

“Now, we are issuing another 29 letters of reprimand to companies classified as having committed serious violations’ he said.

Most of the offenders, he said are tourist accommodation businesses and trade service businesses. Violations range from environmental pollution, to violations of building permits to environmental destruction.

“This is only a first reprimand. If they remain recalcitrant, we will revoke their permit as the consequence.

We have the authority to supervise these companies as well as revoke their environmental permit if their environmental documents (UKL/UPL) and the environmental impact analysis (AMDAL) are issued based on the DLHK recommendation and are not being

adhered to”, he explained.

According to the stipulation of these permits, said Eka Merthawan, entrepreneurs are also required to report the existence of their business every six months.

Most of the hundreds who failed to report their business operations have come up with various pretexts for why they have not complied, he added.

“Since we have issued the recommendations for their permits, they are obliged to report their business every six months. Otherwise, they are in violation of the stipulations of the permit. The delivery of the letters of reprimand to the 29 companies involved a number of relevant agencies including the municipal police, investment and integrated licensing office as well as the tourism office”, he said. Inmates of Bangli Prison take to farming BANGLI - Inmates of the class II Bangli Prison are invited to farm on agricultural land has been provided for this purpose.

Some of the inmates also breed livestock or work on their art skills and sports. Bangli Prison Chief , Diding Alpian, said the inmates farm peanuts, corn and other vegetables. Most of the farm yields are consumed by the inmates, but when crops are abundant they are sold or exchanged for other goods.

“This activity is not result oriented but rather is meant as a form of guidance for the inmates and detainees who farm on the morning and in the afternoon. They are also working on hydroponic farming”, explained Chief Alpian, who added that so far not many of the inmates are familiar with hydroponic plant cultivation.

The inmates are also invited to take part in raising chicken, goats and ducks. “Feeding the goats is easy and sometimes the peanuts farmed here are sold to buy feed”, he said. Similarly, the inmates are also invited to brush up their skills in arts and sports.

The prison area that covers ??approximately two hectares also has a pond to cultivate tilapia and catfish, where 3,000 tilapias and 20 catfish are currently being raised. “These activities also serve as a form of recreation thus reducing the livelihood of friction among the inmates” added Alpian.

One of the inmates who asked to remain anonymous said amitted that he was happy with these activities. “At first, I could not farm. But now, at least I know how to grow peanuts. When the results of my farming are good, I feel enthusiastic about continuing” said this middle-aged man. (kmb41)

Cattle slaughter crackdown ripples through India’s leather industry

AGRA - In the backstreets of Agra’s Muslim quarter, where shoes have been made for centuries, small-scale manufacturers are firing workers and families cutting back on spending as a government crackdown on cattle slaughter ripples through the community.

SEMARAPURA - During the school holidays, many children are filling their time with interesting activities as in seen in Sangging hamlet, Kamasan on Wednesday (June 14). Dozens of elementary and junior high school students sat relaxingly while painting Kamasan-style puppet. Guided by painter, Nyoman Mandra, they learned to make Kamasan-style puppet paintings.

Some of the students were seen painting directly into their drawing books, while others used on small canvases. The painting activities for children at Sangging hamlet are arguably quite quite unique and allow these children to enjoy their holidays learning a useful skill that can help develop their village as well as playing. This is especially important as Kamasan puppet painters are becoming increasingly rare over time. Many young people prefer to work as formal employees or as silversmith and goldsmith.

Fortunately, painter Nyoman Mandra has taken it upon himself to invite children to learn Kamasan-style puppet painting in his painting studio called Wasundari. This offer has been met with positive responses.

A number of youngsters including one junior high school student named Nyoman Adi Pradana are eager to spend their school break learning this traditional skill. Adi said that he was joining this lesson, not just to kill time over the holiday but also so that he can improve in his painting hobby.

Adi also explained that at school he is also taught how to draw Kamasanstyle puppets. He is eager to improve his skills so that he can carry on the talent of his father Wayan Muadalara who is also a painter. “ I have been learning how to paint from grandpa Mandra for the last three years. I like

to make paintings of Lord Ganesha and other gods” said Nyoman Adi Pradana.

Ten year old Ni Made Putri Arta Dewi expressed similar opinions.

This student from SDN 1 Kamasan elementary school has been learning to paint since May. She said that learning to paint Kamasan-style puppets is not just a hobby but is also mandatory at school. Besides, she said he village is known as the Kamasan puppet painting village, so as a resident of Kamasan, she must know how to paint in thi style even if she is not as adept as her grandfather and grandmother. “Half of me wants to become a painter while the other half wants to become a doctor. However it is my obligation to know how to paint because it is our ancestral heritage” said Dewi.

According to Dewi, painting Kamasan-style puppet is not easy and she has trouble making the edge lines.

The sketches of the puppets she added can only be made by certain people.

As a resident of Kamsan, she is encouraged to paint luke her colleagues.

“My father is an electrician, and my mother is a tailor. However, I want to be a painter because my grandparents can paint as well”, she said.

Master painter Nyoman Mandra acknowledged however that less and less children are interested in

this unique art form. IN the 1970’s , he said, most of the children in the village learned to paint. At that time it was not only local residents who were interested in this painting style but youngsters from other countries like Austria, the U.S. (Colorado and Seattle), Sydney, Australia and other places, also enjoyed leaning this style. Most of foreigners who learn to paint classical Kamasan puppets are university students who came to do research for three months.

Mandra admitted that at first only 12 students came to learn to paint in his studio, but gradually this number increased to 50. Some of these students are from Kamasan but there are also some form Mas, Ubud, Gianyar, Banjarangkan and even Karangasem.

Over time, however the number of students wantign to learn how to paint in the Kamasan style has gone down.

Mandra suspects this is because nowadays young students are very busy with extra curricular activities.

Young people are also more often choosing to become silversmith and goldsmith rather than painters. Mandra explained that he has deliberately chosen to teach children as they are easier to teach that older people. “ I’m a little worried that over time there will be no more Kamasan puppet painters” he said. The election of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) three years ago has emboldened right-wing Hindu groups to push harder for protection of the cow, an animal they consider sacred.

Authorities in India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh, started closing down unlicensed abattoirs in March, immediately hitting production and sales in the Muslimdominated meat industry.

Last month Modi’s government also banned trading cattle for slaughter, including not just cows, whose killing was already outlawed in most states, but also buffalo, an animal used for meat and leather.

Now the squeeze is spreading to others in the Muslim minority and to lower-caste Hindus who cart cattle, labour in tanneries and make shoes, bags and belts - including for big name brands such as Zara and Clarks.

Frequent attacks by right-wing Hindus against workers they accuse of harming cattle have further rattled the industry.

SOCIAL TENSIONS Much of India’s meat and leather trade takes place in the informal economy, meaning the impact of the closing of illegal abattoirs and ban on trading for slaughter is hard to measure. But cattle markets are reporting a big slowdown in trade and tanneries a shortage of hides.

LONDON - British Prime Minister Theresa May edged closer to clinching a deal to stay in power with the support of Northern Irish kingmakers on Wednesday, but faced a battle over Brexit just days before divorce talks are due to begin.

After days of political turmoil sparked by her botched gamble on a snap election, May’s Conservative Party resumed talks with a small Northern Irish Protestant party on securing the support of its 10 members of parliament to pass legislation.

May said late on Wednesday that the talks were continuing, but that a fire that devastated a 24-storey tower block in London, killing at least 12 people, had taken priority.

Arlene Foster, the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), met May for talks in Downing Street

on Tuesday but Sky News reported she had returned to Belfast on Wednesday evening, leaving party colleagues to continue the negotiations.

“We are continuing to have talks but today, as you will imagine, there has been a real focus on this terrible tragedy in London,” May said.

Even with a deal nearing to secure her government’s survival, May is so weakened that her Brexit strategy has become the subject of public debate inside her own party, with two former prime ministers urging her to soften her approach.

May has said the divorce talks, likely to be the most complex in Europe since World War Two, will begin as planned next week and her Brexit minister, David Davis, said Britain’s negotiating position was unchanged.

“There is a unity of purpose among people in the United Kingdom,” May said following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

“It’s a unity of purpose, having voted to leave the EU, that their government gets on with that and makes a success of it.”

But with so much at stake for Britain and its $2.5 trillion economy, pressure was mounting on May from within and without her party to heed other voices.

May now faces the task of satisfying both the pro-European and eurosceptic factions of her party, keeping Northern Ireland calm and negotiating a divorce with 27 other EU members whose combined economic might is more than five times that of Britain. (rtr)

BUSINESS Poland’s economy at risk if Ukrainians head further west WARSAW- For Oleksandar Potashnyi, a Warsaw Uber driver from Kiev, the European Union’s move this month to waive visas for Ukrainians now means he can go further west as a tourist -- easily. But for work, he plans to stay in Poland, perhaps opening his own business in a few years. The issue for Poland after the EU’s waiver is how many of Potashnyi’s compatriots -- possibly as many as a million of whom work in the country -- will do the same, and how many will move on to Germany and the like.

It is a crucial question for the Polish central bank, in particular, as it watches for signs of wage pressures gradually accelerating throughout the economy. Potashnyi, a 27-year-old who left Ukraine a year ago to exchange a $400 monthly wage as a taxi driver for the $1,300-$1,400 he earns with Uber, reckons some will go, mostly those who would otherwise have returned to Ukraine.

“I want to stay, but those who want to return to Ukraine (now) won’t,” he said.

The visa waiver means some Ukrainians, especially temporary construction workers, may take advantage of visa-free travel to seek higher-paying work further west in the EU, albeit often illegally.

That could be a significant part of Poland’s work force. Since Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014, plunging Ukraine into recession and instability, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have sought employment

“ Lukat Gni ”, To maintain balance and purity of macrocosm and microcosm

This tradition is carried out through generations every year falling on new moon of the Balinese ninth month or at the night of Pengrupukan or the day before celebration of Nyepi, Monday (Mar. 27).

Lukat gni also called flame war is derived from two words, namely lukat and gni. Lukat or melukat means cleansing of all impurities and the unseen while gni means fire.

Lukat gni can be interpreted as a tradition of cleansing or purifying the microcosm and macrocosm from any kind of impurities by means of fire. This tradition is also aimed at maintaining balance of nature and humans to result in harmony in the implementation of the catur bratha penyepian or five abstinences.

Economists say this influx has helped keep wage pressures in Poland - a country of 38 million and 16 million workers - in check and also facilitated further economic growth.

Poland has one of the fastest aging societies in the EU. The influx of Ukrainians runs contrary to most of the rest of Central Europe where years of westward EU emigration have left steep labour shortages.

Polish central bankers have noted the risk.

“It is very difficult to estimate, but definitely some Ukrainians working in Poland right now will move, for instance, to Germany,” Monetary Policy Council member Lukasz Hardt said. “This is a very important factor.”

In recent months, central bankers have listed wage pressures as one of the most significant factors in their assessment of interest rates as the Polish economy recovers from a dip in growth last year.

ROLE OF LABOUR For now, the central bank is signalling borrowing costs will remain at record lows, possibly through 2018, with wage growth at around 4 percent annually. Unemployment rates are at their lowest since Poland’s transition from communism in the early 1990s, but the Ukrainians are filling the job shortages and keeping wage growth from spiking. That compares with double-digit wage increases in Hungary, which has accepted significantly fewer Ukrainian workers and has mounting shortages of labour in construction, healthcare, retail and elsewhere.

Polish Central Bank Governor Adam Glapinski said in May that rate-setters were watching out for potential outflows of Ukrainian workers but aren’t worried for now.

Sources within the bank say, however, that a minority of policymakers believe wage growth could force a hike sooner, driven in part by government plans to raise minimum pay and its move to lower the pension age later this year.

Employers organisations say Poland’s conservative government needs to do more to help migrant workers settle in Poland to plug labour shortages. “The legal labour market in Poland will have to compete with the EU’s grey economy,” said Andrzej Kubisiak, a spokesman for Work Service, Poland’s biggest employment agency.

One employers group, Pracodawcy RP, said on Monday it expected the number of Ukrainian workers to rise in Poland in the short term now that visa requirements are lifted, potentially reaching 2 million. But, over time, the group said, some will travel elsewhere in the EU, seeking higher pay. “It’s a pity the government isn’t doing anything to stop them,” it said. In the end, Poland may end up hoping for more newcomers like Potashnyi. “You can earn well in Poland. In three to four years, you can have a normal life,” he said, content to stay.(ap)

Implementation of this annual tradition is expected to be able to neutralize negative effects and create harmony in ourselves and the balance of the universe. “Through this lukat gni, we will create harmony and balance of the universe,” he said.

A participant of lukat gni, A.A. Gde Baskara Diningrat, said that he took this tradition to preserve the heritage.

Armed with self-confidence, he said, the heat of the fire afflicting to the body will not be felt. Every fire is believed to eliminate all the impurities inside.

“With the confidence I have, the more exposed to the fire, the more impurities will be missing from our body,” said Baskara who participates regularly in this tradition every year. (kmb)

Buleleng Siobak a Very Delicious Food

Foodies may already be familiar with this delicacy made of boiled pork in thick gravy that is called siobak. The district of Buleleng is well known for its rich varety of culutre – including its special foods. In fact a visit to Buleleng would not be complete without indulging in some of its culinary treasures such as its popular Siobak.

Siobak can be found in a variety of places in Buleleng ranging from street vendors to fine restaurant. Aye Syobak is the name of one of the street stalls that is quite popular in Buleleng.

Manager Ketut Utama explained that he inherited his Siobka recipes from his biological grandmother and that he grew up learning how to run a the family food stall, so when Ketut got married, he dicided to continue the family business.

Ketut also explained that they always use selected pork and in order to eliminate the pungent odor of pork they first boil the meat with spieces and soy sauce. This boiling process also yields the tasty gravy for which they are famous while the sauce soy sauce gives that special sweetness. They also use pork skin, fatty meat, offal and head of pork. “ Actually it is easy to make siobak, you just need meat and seasoning” he added.

People from all over Buleleng and other parts of Bali come to enjoy this 62 year old man’s special siobak. “We often have customaers from Malaysia and other foreign countries who stop by when visitiing Buleleng”, said Ketut. The distinctives foods of Buleleng are clearly not just popular with locals but with people from all over.

Since siobak there are more and more people serving siobak in Bulelelng, Ketut needs to keep his recipie fine tuned in order to remain competitive. “Since my mother’S time our flavour has remained the same. It feels original without adding extra ingredients” he said. According to Ketut Utama, it is important to keep the authenticity of Buleleng siobaks’ flavour. Aye Syobak which was first established in 1975 is located near the former harbor of Buleleng, at 38 Jalan Surapati.(kmb)

U.S. lawmaker Scalise in critical after gunman attack at baseball field

ALEXANDRIA - Congressman Steve Scalise, the No. 3 Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, was in critical condition on Wednesday night after he and three others were shot as they practiced for a charity baseball game.

The gunman, who had posted angry messages against President Donald Trump and other Republicans on social media, opened fire on a group of Republican lawmakers and colleagues at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia, outside Washington. He was wounded in a gunfight with Capitol Hill police at the scene and later died.

Scalise was shot in the left hip, suffering broken bones, injuries to internal organs and severe bleeding.

He underwent surgery but would need further operations, the MedStar Washington Hospital Center said.

“Rep. Steve Scalise, one of the truly great people, is in very tough shape - but he is a real fighter. Pray for Steve!” Trump said on Twitter after visiting the hospital

Trump under investigation for possible obstruction of justice -Wash Post

WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump is being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for possible obstruction of justice, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing unidentified officials.

Mueller is investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign. Former FBI Director James Comey told Congress last week he believes he was fired by Trump to undermine the agency’s Russia probe.

The Washington Post, citing five people briefed on the requests who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, the head of the National Security Agency, and Richard Ledgett, the former deputy director at the NSA, had agreed to be interviewed by Mueller’s investigators as early as this week.

The obstruction of justice investigation into Trump began days after Comey was fired on May 9, according to people familiar with the matter, the Washington Post said.

Trump’s legal team quickly denounced the report on Wednesday.

“The FBI leak of information regarding the President

is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal,” a spokesman for Trump’s legal team, Mark Corallo, said.

A spokesman for Mueller’s team declined to comment.

Several legal experts told Reuters that Comey’s testimony last week that Trump expected loyalty and told Comey he hoped he could drop an investigation of a former top aide could bolster obstruction of justice allegations against Trump.

Comey would not say in his testimony last week whether he thought the president sought to obstruct justice, but added it would be up to special counsel Mueller “to sort that out.”

After Comey’s testimony, Trump said he had been vindicated because his former FBI director confirmed telling Trump on three occasions that he was not under investigation.

While a sitting president is unlikely to face criminal prosecution, obstruction of justice could form the basis for impeachment. Any such step would face a steep hurdle as it would require approval by the U.S. House of Representatives, which is controlled by Trump’s fellow Republicans. (rtr)

Corruption Eradication Commission must continue to be strong: President

The gunman, identified by police as 66-year-old James Hodgkinson from the St. Louis suburb of Belleville, Illinois, fired repeatedly at the men playing on the baseball field on Wednesday morning.

Congressmen at the ballpark described hearing loud noises like the sound of firecrackers and 15 to 20 people lying on the ground and realizing they had only baseball bats to defend themselves against bullets.

“When he started shooting, he was shooting to kill people. And thank God he wasn’t a very good shot,” said Representative Joe Barton, the Republican team’s manager.

Also wounded were a congressional aide and one former aide who now works as a lobbyist, officials said. One Capitol Hill police officer suffered a gunshot wound and another officer twisted an ankle and was released from a hospital, police said.

“It was not only chaotic but it was a combat situation,” Alexandria Police Chief Mike Brown told reporters. (rtr)

Death toll of 12 expected to rise in London tower block fire LONDON - The death toll in a fire disaster that destroyed a 24-storey block of flats in London was expected to rise on Thursday, with many people still missing and firefighters facing hazardous conditions as they searched the charred carcass.

Smoke was still wafting out of the shell of the Grenfell Tower on Thursday morning, 30 hours after fire engulfed the building in the early hours of Wednesday and turned it into a huge flaming torch in a matter of minutes.

Authorities have confirmed 12 deaths, but have said that figure would rise. Firefighters rescued 65 people from the building.

Survivors who have lost everything spent the night at emergency shelters, as charities and local support groups were flooded with donations of clothes and bedding from shocked Londoners.

The fire brigade said the inferno was unprecedented in its scale and speed.

The tower, a social housing block built in 1974 in North Kensington, an area of west London,

contained 120 flats and was thought to have been home to about 600 people.

Harrowing accounts emerged of people trapped inside as the blaze destroyed everything around them, shouting for help and trying to escape through windows using makeshift ropes made from bedsheets.

By Thursday morning, there was no sign of life in or around the blackened hulk. Security cordons were in place around the base of the tower, where the ground was littered with charred debris.

Outside the cordons, impromptu tributes had appeared, with photos of missing people, messages of condolences, flowers and candles.

Emergency services said it was too early to say what had caused the disaster. Some residents said no alarm had sounded. Others said they had warned repeatedly about fire safety in the block.

The building had recently undergone an 8.7 million pound ($11.08 million) exterior refurbishment, which included new external cladding and windows. (rtr)

The motion initiated by several lawmakers, particularly from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Golkar, and the National Democrats (Nasdem) parties, to exercise inquiry rights on KPK has received criticism from various parties, particularly from several legal experts.

The inquiry motion came after KPK rejected a request earlier by the Law Commission of the DPR to hand over a recorded copy of the dossiers of former lawmaker Miryam S. Haryani, who has been implicated in a Rp5.9 trillion scandal over the procurement of electronic identity (e-ID) card project.

Based on the dossiers read by the

KPK prosecutor in a court session earlier, more than 50 lawmakers, including the current House Speaker Setya Novanto, high-ranking government officials, and businessmen, were allegedly implicated in

the scandal.

The KPK has strongly expressed regret over the motion, calling it a political maneuver by some of the lawmakers to obstruct the investigation. (ant)

Government reaches tax agreement with Google

JAKARTA - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati confirmed that the government had reached an agreement on tax settlement with the search engine giant Google.

“We have discussed with them and have reached an agreement based on the annual tax notification (SPT) 2016,” Indrawati said here, Tuesday.

The minister noted that Google had upheld its commitment to pay taxes under the agreement. However, she refused to elaborate on the amount of the tax.

“Since this is confidential, we cannot disclose a companys taxes,” she added.

It was earlier reported that Google had failed to pay proper tax on ground that the company did not have a representative office in Indonesia.

The Directorate General of Taxes had conducted an audit and urged Google to submit its financial report to enable the authority to calculate its tax obligation based on the firms income.

The countrys tax authority has monitored Google since April 2016, as the information technology business has grown rapidly and earned high revenue from advertisers.

The government has estimated that the total advertising revenue for the industry in Indonesia reached around US$830 million, with Google and Facebook Inc accounting for around 70 percent of this figure.

Google had registered as a foreign investor in

Indonesia since September 15, 2011, and served as a dependent agent of Google Asia Pacific Pte Ltd in Singapore.

Hence, under the law on income tax, the firm, as a permanent establishment, is liable to pay income tax.

The government has claimed that Google owes Rp5 trillion ($373.8 million) in back taxes and penalties since 2011, and the tax office estimates that its revenues had reached Rp6 trillion in 2015.

Last year, Google had agreed to pay 130 million pounds ($164 million) in back taxes to settle a probe

by Britains tax authority, while Thailand is studying plans to toughen tax collection rules for internet and technology firms. (ant)

the ground and telling Sita the she should not under any circumstance step out side the circle.

Sita, left alone in the forest becomes an easy prey to the trickery of Rahwana who has disguised himself has an old periest and bags Sita for some food as he is cold and hungry. Sita falls for for his trick, she steps outside the circle to give the old priest some food and rahwana grabs her and takes her to his palace.Once back in his palace in Alengka, Rahwana tries everything he can to seduce Sita without any luck.

In the palace of Alengka, Sita pours out her heart about her cruel fate to Rahwana’s niece Trijata, when Hanoman appears telling her that hi is Rama’s envoy and proving it by showing her Rama’s ring. Mayweather, McGregor agree to August fight

LOS ANGELES - Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather and mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor, two of the most popular athletes in their respective sports, have agreed to a crossover fight in the ring on August 26 in Las Vegas.

The fight confirmed on Wednesday is expected to gross millions of dollars, with Mayweather a solid favorite.

Mayweather, 40, retired in 2015 with an unblemished 49-0 professional boxing record while boastful Irishman McGregor, 28, is the UFC’s lightweight champion.

“IT’S OFFICIAL!!!” Mayweather wrote on his Twitter account alongside a short video that included photos of both fighters.

“THE FIGHT IS ON,” McGregor tweeted minutes before Mayweather’s post.

The two fighters had gone back and forth for nearly a year on the showdown, each demanding $100 million for the fight.

Both camps declined to disclose financial details during a call with reporters but said all sides were satisfied.

“Nobody is bummed out about this deal,” UFC president Dana White said.

“Everybody’s happy,” Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said.

White told ESPN that the 12round fight would take place at the T-Mobile Arena and that McGregor would weigh in at 154 pounds.

Mayweather Promotions will publicize the event, which will be available on Showtime pay-perview.

“I talked to Conor McGregor this morning,” White said. “He is absolutely, 100 percent positive that he wins this fight.”

If McGregor pulls that off, it would rank among the greatest boxing upsets of all time.

Mayweather is widely regarded as one of the best defensive fighters ever, and prides himself on his ability to evade punishment with his movement and to make adjustments on the fly.

McGregor, the UFC’s reigning lightweight champion and former featherweight champion, is known

as much for his bravado as for his explosive knockout power inside an MMA octagon.

The Irishman became the first UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in New York last November for the lightweight championship.

Known for his devastating striking and highlight-reel knockouts, McGregor is also quick on his feet but few would back him to beat one of the most complete boxers of all time.

A win for Mayweather would move him ahead of former heavyweight great Rocky Marciano, who also retired with a perfect 49-0 career record.

Showtime Sports executive vice president Stephen Espinoza said the fight had the potential to appeal to an entirely new category of fans.

“We’re not only drawing from the universe of boxing fans and the universe of MMA fans, we’ve actually tapped into the audience that doesn’t follow either sport,” he said.

STUTTGART - Roger Federer slumped to a shock 2-6 7-6(8) 6-4 loss to German veteran Tommy Haas at the Stuttgart Open on Wednesday in a disappointing comeback after the 18-times grandslam champion missed the entire claycourt season.

Federer, who opted to take time off in order to prepare for an assault on an eighth Wimbledon crown, made a sensational start to the year by winning the Australian Open and subsequent titles at Indian Wells and Miami.

Despite a superb first set on grass, the 35-year-old squandered a matchpoint and lost his grip on the game in the oldest tour match, in terms of combined ages, since 1982 and suffered only his second loss of the season.

“I thought it was a typical grasscourt match today. Rallies weren’t very long and it was decided on a serve there or a return here,” Federer told reporters.

“If you don’t take your chances like I didn’t, leading a set and a break, you really only have yourself to blame at the end. You have to acknowledge the fact that he was a bit better. It’s quite frustrating, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.”

“I definitely was not as sharp as I was hoping to be in maybe the big moments, or the moment when I had the lead and where I feel I should have been cruising from that moment on.”

Federer squandered a matchpoint in the second set as 39-yearold Haas, ranked 302nd and in his farewell season, proved more consistent, eventually setting up a quarter-final clash against countryman Mischa Zverev.

With another victory Haas, the lowest-ranked player to beat Federer since world number 407 Bjoern Phau in 1999, will become the oldest player to reach a tour semi-final since 40-year-old Jimmy Connors in 1993 in San Francisco.

“I am speechless, of course,” Haas said. “There are a lot of emotions when you are playing a close friend.

“When you come into the second set, save a match point and then come back, that always makes you very happy about a win. I am shocked myself.”

Federer grabbed an early break as his attacking topspin backhand, which had served him so well earlier this year, was again on display.

Haas, a former world number two, was broken again as the Swiss served out the set after 22 minutes.

“We did not plan it, but fortunately it turned into a positive message,” Nanak said. “So I hope it will have a good impact on everybody.” The 28-year-old said he had joined in with a traditional Hindu prayer gesture after he saw his team mates praying.

“I never expected it to go viral. Because... we just wanted to show our gratitude to God, because we won that match,” added Nanak, who joined Bali United this season.

Bali is a predominantly Hindu enclave in Indonesia, which has the world’s largest Muslim population and is also home to sizeable communities of Christians, Buddhists, and people who adhere to traditional beliefs.

Religious tensions have spiked in Indonesia in recent months after Jakarta’s Christian governor was jailed for blasphemy after mass Islamist-led rallies.

Basuki Tjahaja Purnama denied he had insulted the Koran and critics of his trial said it was politically motivated. Nanak said his team mates respected each others’ faiths and that helped in their game. “Because in a team we are different to one another but it’s important when we are fighting for one team,” he said. Russia making progress on racism before World Cup - report MOSCOW — Russia has made progress fighting soccer racism ahead of next year’s World Cup, but players, coaches and fans still risk abuse, a new report says. There were 89 racist and far-right incidents at Russian games in the 2016-17 season, slightly below the two previous seasons, according to Thursday’s report by European anti-discrimination group FARE and Russia-based SOVA. In one case, an African player complained of racist abuse by an opponent during a Russian Premier League game. In another case, a hardline fan group segregated part of a stadium for people of “Slavic appearance,” the report alleges. Fans of Russian champion Spartak Moscow flew anti-Semitic banners.

The Russian Football Union’s disciplinary committee, however, has said it didn’t detect a single racist incident in any of the top three divisions this season. The report comes ahead of the Confederations Cup, starting Saturday, and a year ahead of the World Cup. “The Russian football authorities and the government authorities have realized ... the way both of these competitions will be tarnished by the fear of racism occurring and they’ve taken some quite strong measures,” FARE’s executive director Piara Powar told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. “There still remains the danger of some isolated incidents taking place.”

Russian authorities have taken measures to blacklist at least 191

fans from attending sports events, while the RFU ejected an influential fan leader, Alexander Shprygin, from its organization. He was deported twice from France last year following violence around Russia’s match with England at the European Championship, and has been accused of posting far-right symbols on social media, a charge he denied.

Shprygin was dragged out of a bathroom at an RFU conference in September by police and detained, reportedly in connection with an investigation into fan violence. FARE says Russia has made some progress, and that it didn’t observe monkey chants or openly Nazi flags in any top-flight games this season. However, it warns far-right fans instead fly banners with concealed messages such as runes and number codes used by Nazi and ultranationalist groups.

The RFU punished two clubs in the 2015-16 season for such banners, but didn’t pursue any such cases this season — something which Powar says indicates it may be “turning a blind eye.” That was despite cases of anti-Semitic banners being flown

by Spartak fans, including taunts aimed at rival CSKA Moscow, whose club president and then-coach are both Jewish. Another Spartak banner showed a Russian rock singer caricaturized as an Orthodox Jew, accompanied by personal abuse. CSKA fans also targeted their own coach, Leonid Slutsky — now at England’s

Hull City — with a banner linking his Jewish faith to poor results.

FARE says the number of violent racist incidents fell from five to two last season compared to the year before. There was also no repeat of large-scale violent attacks on foreign fans, such as those which took place between Russian and English fans in Marseille a year ago during the European Championship.

However, there are indications that football-related violence between different ethnic groups in Russia is

becoming more entrenched, with fans from Russia’s largely Muslim regions in the North Caucasus forming “fan groups which adopt football hooligans’ rules and initiate fights with Moscow teams.”

In another case last month at a playoff game for a place in the Russian Premier League, one fan group from the Yenisei Krasnoyarsk team issued a statement on social media saying that its sector of the stadium was only available to fans of “Slavic appearance.”

A member of the group, Artyom Kirillov, suggested the group had been misunderstood. “A lot was made up” in local media reports of the incident, he told the AP. “We are loyal to all Russian citizens.”

FIFA said Wednesday that Confederations Cup games will use a three-stage process in the event of fan racism. Referees will first request a public announcement, then suspend the game if the behavior doesn’t stop.

Manchester United complete Lindelof signing LONDON - Manchester United have completed the signing of Sweden defender Victor Lindelof from Portuguese champions Benfica on a four-year contract with the option of extending it by another year, the Premier League club said on Wednesday. “Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica from July 1, 2017,” the winners of a record 20 English titles said on their official website (www. manutd.com).

Xi tells Infantino China wants to host World Cup

BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping told FIFA boss Gianni Infantino he hoped the Asian nation could host a World Cup “in the future”, the world soccer governing body said on Wednesday, after the two met in Beijing. Xi, an avid soccer fan, has launched an ambitious drive to improve Chinese football from the ground up and spoken of his wish for the country to qualify for another World Cup, host the tournament and eventually win it.

China has invested heavily in the sport in recent years, boosting its domestic league by signing a number of high-profile, international players and coaches. In a statement released late on Wednesday, FIFA said Xi and president Infantino’s meeting centred on soccer’s popularity in China and the government’s commitment to improving access to the game. “In addition, the Chinese President expressed his hope, and the dream of many Chinese people, that the country would have the opportunity to host a FIFA Men’s World Cup at some stage in the future,” it said.

Chinese state media outlets, which are tightly controlled by the government and especially so when reporting the official activities of senior Communist Party leaders, did not report Xi’s World Cup comment. Nevertheless, speculation has grown that China wishes to launch a bid for either the 2030 or 2034 tournaments. China’s 82nd-ranked national team has qualified only once for the World Cup, losing all three matches and failing to score a goal in the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan.

Their failure to return to the finals has long frustrated local soccer fans. China are all but certain to miss out on qualifying for next year’s tournament in Russia after a late goal by Syria in their 2-2 draw on Tuesday.

“There is still a very large disparity in the gen-

eral standard of China’s football today compared to major footballing nations,” state broadcaster CCTV quoted Xi as saying in his meeting with Infantino.

“The true meaning of football is not just about competition, it is more about cultivating people’s patriotism and collective fighting spirit.”

China’s growing influence within FIFA was reflected in the election of Zhang Jian to the governing body’s executive Council in May, and FIFA has appointed a number of Chinese companies as sponsors for the World Cups in Russia and in Qatar in 2022. “Today marks the kick-off of a new and closer cooperation between China and FIFA for the future of football,” Infantino said in the FIFA statement. “We did not plan it, but fortunately it turned into a positive message,” Nanak said. “So I hope it will have a good impact on everybody.” The 28-year-old said he had joined in with a traditional Hindu prayer gesture after he saw his team mates praying.

“I never expected it to go viral. Because... we just wanted to show our gratitude to God, because we won that match,” added Nanak, who joined Bali United this season.

Nanak said his team mates respected each others’ faiths and that helped in their game. “Because in a team we are different to one another but it’s important when we are fighting for one team,” he said. Russia making progress on racism before World Cup - report MOSCOW — Russia has made progress fighting soccer racism ahead of next year’s World Cup, but players, coaches and fans still risk abuse, a new report says. There were 89 racist and far-right incidents at Russian games in the 2016-17 season, slightly below the two previous seasons, according to Thursday’s report by European anti-discrimination group FARE and Russia-based SOVA. In one case, an African player complained of racist abuse by an opponent during a Russian Premier League game. In another case, a hardline fan group segregated part of a stadium for people of “Slavic appearance,” the report alleges. Fans of Russian champion Spartak Moscow flew anti-Semitic banners.

The Russian Football Union’s disciplinary committee, however, has said it didn’t detect a single racist incident in any of the top three divisions this season. The report comes ahead of the Confederations Cup, starting Saturday, and a year ahead of the World Cup. “The Russian football authorities and the government authorities have realized ... the way both of these competitions will be tarnished by the fear of racism occurring and they’ve taken some quite strong measures,” FARE’s executive director Piara Powar told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. “There still remains the danger of some isolated incidents taking place.”

Russian authorities have taken measures to blacklist at least 191

fans from attending sports events, while the RFU ejected an influential fan leader, Alexander Shprygin, from its organization. He was deported twice from France last year following violence around Russia’s match with England at the European Championship, and has been accused of posting far-right symbols on social media, a charge he denied.

Shprygin was dragged out of a bathroom at an RFU conference in September by police and detained, reportedly in connection with an investigation into fan violence. FARE says Russia has made some progress, and that it didn’t observe monkey chants or openly Nazi flags in any top-flight games this season. However, it warns far-right fans instead fly banners with concealed messages such as runes and number codes used by Nazi and ultranationalist groups.

The RFU punished two clubs in the 2015-16 season for such banners, but didn’t pursue any such cases this season — something which Powar says indicates it may be “turning a blind eye.” That was despite cases of anti-Semitic banners being flown

by Spartak fans, including taunts aimed at rival CSKA Moscow, whose club president and then-coach are both Jewish. Another Spartak banner showed a Russian rock singer caricaturized as an Orthodox Jew, accompanied by personal abuse. CSKA fans also targeted their own coach, Leonid Slutsky — now at England’s

Hull City — with a banner linking his Jewish faith to poor results.

FARE says the number of violent racist incidents fell from five to two last season compared to the year before. There was also no repeat of large-scale violent attacks on foreign fans, such as those which took place between Russian and English fans in Marseille a year ago during the European Championship.

However, there are indications that football-related violence between different ethnic groups in Russia is

becoming more entrenched, with fans from Russia’s largely Muslim regions in the North Caucasus forming “fan groups which adopt football hooligans’ rules and initiate fights with Moscow teams.”

Rama chases after the deer leaving his brother Laksamana behind with strict instuction to protec Sita. When Sita thinks she hears a cry for help from Rama she forces Laksamana to go after Rama by accusing him of cowardice and he goes off to help Rama with great reluctance after drawing a magic circle on

the ground and telling Sita the she should not under any circumstance step out side the circle.

Sita, left alone in the forest becomes an easy prey to the trickery of Rahwana who has disguised himself has an old periest and bags Sita for some food as he is cold and hungry. Sita falls for for his trick, she steps outside the circle to give the old priest some food and rahwana grabs her and takes her to his palace.Once back in his palace in Alengka, Rahwana tries everything he can to seduce Sita without any luck.

In the palace of Alengka, Sita pours out her heart about her cruel fate to Rahwana’s niece Trijata, when Hanoman appears telling her that hi is Rama’s envoy and proving it by showing her Rama’s ring. Sita gives Hanoman a hairpin to show she is still alive and sand him back to Rama with a massage to come to her rescue. (IBP/net)

Mayweather, McGregor agree to August fight

LOS ANGELES - Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather and mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor, two of the most popular athletes in their respective sports, have agreed to a crossover fight in the ring on August 26 in Las Vegas.

The fight confirmed on Wednesday is expected to gross millions of dollars, with Mayweather a solid favorite.

Mayweather, 40, retired in 2015 with an unblemished 49-0 professional boxing record while boastful Irishman McGregor, 28, is the UFC’s lightweight champion.

“IT’S OFFICIAL!!!” Mayweather wrote on his Twitter account alongside a short video that included photos of both fighters.

“THE FIGHT IS ON,” McGregor tweeted minutes before Mayweather’s post.

The two fighters had gone back and forth for nearly a year on the showdown, each demanding $100 million for the fight.

Both camps declined to disclose financial details during a call with reporters but said all sides were satisfied.

“Nobody is bummed out about this deal,” UFC president Dana White said.

“Everybody’s happy,” Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said.

White told ESPN that the 12round fight would take place at the T-Mobile Arena and that McGregor would weigh in at 154 pounds.

Mayweather Promotions will publicize the event, which will be available on Showtime pay-perview.

“I talked to Conor McGregor this morning,” White said. “He is absolutely, 100 percent positive that he wins this fight.”

If McGregor pulls that off, it would rank among the greatest boxing upsets of all time.

Mayweather is widely regarded as one of the best defensive fighters ever, and prides himself on his ability to evade punishment with his movement and to make adjustments on the fly.

McGregor, the UFC’s reigning lightweight champion and former featherweight champion, is known

as much for his bravado as for his explosive knockout power inside an MMA octagon.

The Irishman became the first UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in New York last November for the lightweight championship.

Known for his devastating striking and highlight-reel knockouts, McGregor is also quick on his feet but few would back him to beat one of the most complete boxers of all time.

A win for Mayweather would move him ahead of former heavyweight great Rocky Marciano, who also retired with a perfect 49-0 career record.

Showtime Sports executive vice president Stephen Espinoza said the fight had the potential to appeal to an entirely new category of fans.

“We’re not only drawing from the universe of boxing fans and the universe of MMA fans, we’ve actually tapped into the audience that doesn’t follow either sport,” he said.

STUTTGART - Roger Federer slumped to a shock 2-6 7-6(8) 6-4 loss to German veteran Tommy Haas at the Stuttgart Open on Wednesday in a disappointing comeback after the 18-times grandslam champion missed the entire claycourt season.

Federer, who opted to take time off in order to prepare for an assault on an eighth Wimbledon crown, made a sensational start to the year by winning the Australian Open and subsequent titles at Indian Wells and Miami.

Despite a superb first set on grass, the 35-year-old squandered a matchpoint and lost his grip on the game in the oldest tour match, in terms of combined ages, since 1982 and suffered only his second loss of the season.

“I thought it was a typical grasscourt match today. Rallies weren’t very long and it was decided on a serve there or a return here,” Federer told reporters.

“If you don’t take your chances like I didn’t, leading a set and a break, you really only have yourself to blame at the end. You have to acknowledge the fact that he was a bit better. It’s quite frustrating, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.”

“I definitely was not as sharp as I was hoping to be in maybe the big moments, or the moment when I had the lead and where I feel I should have been cruising from that moment on.”

Federer squandered a matchpoint in the second set as 39-yearold Haas, ranked 302nd and in his farewell season, proved more consistent, eventually setting up a quarter-final clash against countryman Mischa Zverev.

With another victory Haas, the lowest-ranked player to beat Federer since world number 407 Bjoern Phau in 1999, will become the oldest player to reach a tour semi-final since 40-year-old Jimmy Connors in 1993 in San Francisco.

“I am speechless, of course,” Haas said. “There are a lot of emotions when you are playing a close friend.

“When you come into the second set, save a match point and then come back, that always makes you very happy about a win. I am shocked myself.”

Federer grabbed an early break as his attacking topspin backhand, which had served him so well earlier this year, was again on display.

Haas, a former world number two, was broken again as the Swiss served out the set after 22 minutes.

U.S. lawmaker Scalise in critical after gunman attack at baseball field

ALEXANDRIA - Congressman Steve Scalise, the No. 3 Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, was in critical condition on Wednesday night after he and three others were shot as they practiced for a charity baseball game.

The gunman, who had posted angry messages against President Donald Trump and other Republicans on social media, opened fire on a group of Republican lawmakers and colleagues at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia, outside Washington. He was wounded in a gunfight with Capitol Hill police at the scene and later died.

Scalise was shot in the left hip, suffering broken bones, injuries to internal organs and severe bleeding.

He underwent surgery but would need further operations, the MedStar Washington Hospital Center said.

“Rep. Steve Scalise, one of the truly great people, is in very tough shape - but he is a real fighter. Pray for Steve!” Trump said on Twitter after visiting the hospital

Trump under investigation for possible obstruction of justice -Wash Post

WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump is being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for possible obstruction of justice, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing unidentified officials.

Mueller is investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign. Former FBI Director James Comey told Congress last week he believes he was fired by Trump to undermine the agency’s Russia probe.

The Washington Post, citing five people briefed on the requests who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, the head of the National Security Agency, and Richard Ledgett, the former deputy director at the NSA, had agreed to be interviewed by Mueller’s investigators as early as this week.

The obstruction of justice investigation into Trump began days after Comey was fired on May 9, according to people familiar with the matter, the Washington Post said.

Trump’s legal team quickly denounced the report on Wednesday.

“The FBI leak of information regarding the President

is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal,” a spokesman for Trump’s legal team, Mark Corallo, said.

A spokesman for Mueller’s team declined to comment.

Several legal experts told Reuters that Comey’s testimony last week that Trump expected loyalty and told Comey he hoped he could drop an investigation of a former top aide could bolster obstruction of justice allegations against Trump.

Comey would not say in his testimony last week whether he thought the president sought to obstruct justice, but added it would be up to special counsel Mueller “to sort that out.”

After Comey’s testimony, Trump said he had been vindicated because his former FBI director confirmed telling Trump on three occasions that he was not under investigation.

While a sitting president is unlikely to face criminal prosecution, obstruction of justice could form the basis for impeachment. Any such step would face a steep hurdle as it would require approval by the U.S. House of Representatives, which is controlled by Trump’s fellow Republicans. (rtr)

Corruption Eradication Commission must continue to be strong: President

The gunman, identified by police as 66-year-old James Hodgkinson from the St. Louis suburb of Belleville, Illinois, fired repeatedly at the men playing on the baseball field on Wednesday morning.

Congressmen at the ballpark described hearing loud noises like the sound of firecrackers and 15 to 20 people lying on the ground and realizing they had only baseball bats to defend themselves against bullets.

“When he started shooting, he was shooting to kill people. And thank God he wasn’t a very good shot,” said Representative Joe Barton, the Republican team’s manager.

Also wounded were a congressional aide and one former aide who now works as a lobbyist, officials said. One Capitol Hill police officer suffered a gunshot wound and another officer twisted an ankle and was released from a hospital, police said.

“It was not only chaotic but it was a combat situation,” Alexandria Police Chief Mike Brown told reporters. (rtr)

Death toll of 12 expected to rise in London tower block fire LONDON - The death toll in a fire disaster that destroyed a 24-storey block of flats in London was expected to rise on Thursday, with many people still missing and firefighters facing hazardous conditions as they searched the charred carcass.

Smoke was still wafting out of the shell of the Grenfell Tower on Thursday morning, 30 hours after fire engulfed the building in the early hours of Wednesday and turned it into a huge flaming torch in a matter of minutes.

Authorities have confirmed 12 deaths, but have said that figure would rise. Firefighters rescued 65 people from the building.

Survivors who have lost everything spent the night at emergency shelters, as charities and local support groups were flooded with donations of clothes and bedding from shocked Londoners.

The fire brigade said the inferno was unprecedented in its scale and speed.

The tower, a social housing block built in 1974 in North Kensington, an area of west London,

contained 120 flats and was thought to have been home to about 600 people.

Harrowing accounts emerged of people trapped inside as the blaze destroyed everything around them, shouting for help and trying to escape through windows using makeshift ropes made from bedsheets.

By Thursday morning, there was no sign of life in or around the blackened hulk. Security cordons were in place around the base of the tower, where the ground was littered with charred debris.

Outside the cordons, impromptu tributes had appeared, with photos of missing people, messages of condolences, flowers and candles.

Emergency services said it was too early to say what had caused the disaster. Some residents said no alarm had sounded. Others said they had warned repeatedly about fire safety in the block.

The building had recently undergone an 8.7 million pound ($11.08 million) exterior refurbishment, which included new external cladding and windows. (rtr)

The motion initiated by several lawmakers, particularly from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Golkar, and the National Democrats (Nasdem) parties, to exercise inquiry rights on KPK has received criticism from various parties, particularly from several legal experts.

The inquiry motion came after KPK rejected a request earlier by the Law Commission of the DPR to hand over a recorded copy of the dossiers of former lawmaker Miryam S. Haryani, who has been implicated in a Rp5.9 trillion scandal over the procurement of electronic identity (e-ID) card project.

Based on the dossiers read by the

KPK prosecutor in a court session earlier, more than 50 lawmakers, including the current House Speaker Setya Novanto, high-ranking government officials, and businessmen, were allegedly implicated in

the scandal.

The KPK has strongly expressed regret over the motion, calling it a political maneuver by some of the lawmakers to obstruct the investigation. (ant)

Government reaches tax agreement with Google

JAKARTA - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati confirmed that the government had reached an agreement on tax settlement with the search engine giant Google.

“We have discussed with them and have reached an agreement based on the annual tax notification (SPT) 2016,” Indrawati said here, Tuesday.

The minister noted that Google had upheld its commitment to pay taxes under the agreement. However, she refused to elaborate on the amount of the tax.

“Since this is confidential, we cannot disclose a companys taxes,” she added.

It was earlier reported that Google had failed to pay proper tax on ground that the company did not have a representative office in Indonesia.

The Directorate General of Taxes had conducted an audit and urged Google to submit its financial report to enable the authority to calculate its tax obligation based on the firms income.

The countrys tax authority has monitored Google since April 2016, as the information technology business has grown rapidly and earned high revenue from advertisers.

The government has estimated that the total advertising revenue for the industry in Indonesia reached around US$830 million, with Google and Facebook Inc accounting for around 70 percent of this figure.

Google had registered as a foreign investor in

Indonesia since September 15, 2011, and served as a dependent agent of Google Asia Pacific Pte Ltd in Singapore.

Hence, under the law on income tax, the firm, as a permanent establishment, is liable to pay income tax.

The government has claimed that Google owes Rp5 trillion ($373.8 million) in back taxes and penalties since 2011, and the tax office estimates that its revenues had reached Rp6 trillion in 2015.

Last year, Google had agreed to pay 130 million pounds ($164 million) in back taxes to settle a probe

by Britains tax authority, while Thailand is studying plans to toughen tax collection rules for internet and technology firms. (ant)

BUSINESS Poland’s economy at risk if Ukrainians head further west WARSAW- For Oleksandar Potashnyi, a Warsaw Uber driver from Kiev, the European Union’s move this month to waive visas for Ukrainians now means he can go further west as a tourist -- easily. But for work, he plans to stay in Poland, perhaps opening his own business in a few years. The issue for Poland after the EU’s waiver is how many of Potashnyi’s compatriots -- possibly as many as a million of whom work in the country -- will do the same, and how many will move on to Germany and the like.

It is a crucial question for the Polish central bank, in particular, as it watches for signs of wage pressures gradually accelerating throughout the economy. Potashnyi, a 27-year-old who left Ukraine a year ago to exchange a $400 monthly wage as a taxi driver for the $1,300-$1,400 he earns with Uber, reckons some will go, mostly those who would otherwise have returned to Ukraine.

“I want to stay, but those who want to return to Ukraine (now) won’t,” he said.

The visa waiver means some Ukrainians, especially temporary construction workers, may take advantage of visa-free travel to seek higher-paying work further west in the EU, albeit often illegally.

Lukat gni also called flame war is derived from two words, namely lukat and gni. Lukat or melukat means cleansing of all impurities and the unseen while gni means fire.

Lukat gni can be interpreted as a tradition of cleansing or purifying the microcosm and macrocosm from any kind of impurities by means of fire. This tradition is also aimed at maintaining balance of nature and humans to result in harmony in the implementation of the catur bratha penyepian or five abstinences.

Economists say this influx has helped keep wage pressures in Poland - a country of 38 million and 16 million workers - in check and also facilitated further economic growth.

Poland has one of the fastest aging societies in the EU. The influx of Ukrainians runs contrary to most of the rest of Central Europe where years of westward EU emigration have left steep labour shortages.

Polish central bankers have noted the risk.

“It is very difficult to estimate, but definitely some Ukrainians working in Poland right now will move, for instance, to Germany,” Monetary Policy Council member Lukasz Hardt said. “This is a very important factor.”

In recent months, central bankers have listed wage pressures as one of the most significant factors in their assessment of interest rates as the Polish economy recovers from a dip in growth last year.

ROLE OF LABOUR For now, the central bank is signalling borrowing costs will remain at record lows, possibly through 2018, with wage growth at around 4 percent annually. Unemployment rates are at their lowest since Poland’s transition from communism in the early 1990s, but the Ukrainians are filling the job shortages and keeping wage growth from spiking. That compares with double-digit wage increases in Hungary, which has accepted significantly fewer Ukrainian workers and has mounting shortages of labour in construction, healthcare, retail and elsewhere.

Polish Central Bank Governor Adam Glapinski said in May that rate-setters were watching out for potential outflows of Ukrainian workers but aren’t worried for now.

Sources within the bank say, however, that a minority of policymakers believe wage growth could force a hike sooner, driven in part by government plans to raise minimum pay and its move to lower the pension age later this year.

Employers organisations say Poland’s conservative government needs to do more to help migrant workers settle in Poland to plug labour shortages. “The legal labour market in Poland will have to compete with the EU’s grey economy,” said Andrzej Kubisiak, a spokesman for Work Service, Poland’s biggest employment agency.

One employers group, Pracodawcy RP, said on Monday it expected the number of Ukrainian workers to rise in Poland in the short term now that visa requirements are lifted, potentially reaching 2 million. But, over time, the group said, some will travel elsewhere in the EU, seeking higher pay. “It’s a pity the government isn’t doing anything to stop them,” it said. In the end, Poland may end up hoping for more newcomers like Potashnyi. “You can earn well in Poland. In three to four years, you can have a normal life,” he said, content to stay.(ap)

A participant of lukat gni, A.A. Gde Baskara Diningrat, said that he took this tradition to preserve the heritage.

Armed with self-confidence, he said, the heat of the fire afflicting to the body will not be felt. Every fire is believed to eliminate all the impurities inside.

Buleleng Siobak a Very Delicious Food

Foodies may already be familiar with this delicacy made of boiled pork in thick gravy that is called siobak. The district of Buleleng is well known for its rich varety of culutre – including its special foods. In fact a visit to Buleleng would not be complete without indulging in some of its culinary treasures such as its popular Siobak.

Siobak can be found in a variety of places in Buleleng ranging from street vendors to fine restaurant. Aye Syobak is the name of one of the street stalls that is quite popular in Buleleng.

Manager Ketut Utama explained that he inherited his Siobka recipes from his biological grandmother and that he grew up learning how to run a the family food stall, so when Ketut got married, he dicided to continue the family business.

Ketut also explained that they always use selected pork and in order to eliminate the pungent odor of pork they first boil the meat with spieces and soy sauce. This boiling process also yields the tasty gravy for which they are famous while the sauce soy sauce gives that special sweetness. They also use pork skin, fatty meat, offal and head of pork. “ Actually it is easy to make siobak, you just need meat and seasoning” he added.

People from all over Buleleng and other parts of Bali come to enjoy this 62 year old man’s special siobak. “We often have customaers from Malaysia and other foreign countries who stop by when visitiing Buleleng”, said Ketut. The distinctives foods of Buleleng are clearly not just popular with locals but with people from all over.

Since siobak there are more and more people serving siobak in Bulelelng, Ketut needs to keep his recipie fine tuned in order to remain competitive. “Since my mother’S time our flavour has remained the same. It feels original without adding extra ingredients” he said. According to Ketut Utama, it is important to keep the authenticity of Buleleng siobaks’ flavour. Inmates of Bangli Prison take to farming BANGLI - Inmates of the class II Bangli Prison are invited to farm on agricultural land has been provided for this purpose.

Some of the inmates also breed livestock or work on their art skills and sports. Bangli Prison Chief , Diding Alpian, said the inmates farm peanuts, corn and other vegetables. Most of the farm yields are consumed by the inmates, but when crops are abundant they are sold or exchanged for other goods.

“This activity is not result oriented but rather is meant as a form of guidance for the inmates and detainees who farm on the morning and in the afternoon. They are also working on hydroponic farming”, explained Chief Alpian, who added that so far not many of the inmates are familiar with hydroponic plant cultivation.

The inmates are also invited to take part in raising chicken, goats and ducks. “Feeding the goats is easy and sometimes the peanuts farmed here are sold to buy feed”, he said. Similarly, the inmates are also invited to brush up their skills in arts and sports.

The prison area that covers ??approximately two hectares also has a pond to cultivate tilapia and catfish, where 3,000 tilapias and 20 catfish are currently being raised. “These activities also serve as a form of recreation thus reducing the livelihood of friction among the inmates” added Alpian.

One of the inmates who asked to remain anonymous said amitted that he was happy with these activities. “At first, I could not farm. But now, at least I know how to grow peanuts. When the results of my farming are good, I feel enthusiastic about continuing” said this middle-aged man. (kmb41)

Cattle slaughter crackdown ripples through India’s leather industry

AGRA - In the backstreets of Agra’s Muslim quarter, where shoes have been made for centuries, small-scale manufacturers are firing workers and families cutting back on spending as a government crackdown on cattle slaughter ripples through the community.

SEMARAPURA - During the school holidays, many children are filling their time with interesting activities as in seen in Sangging hamlet, Kamasan on Wednesday (June 14). Dozens of elementary and junior high school students sat relaxingly while painting Kamasan-style puppet. Guided by painter, Nyoman Mandra, they learned to make Kamasan-style puppet paintings.

Some of the students were seen painting directly into their drawing books, while others used on small canvases. The painting activities for children at Sangging hamlet are arguably quite quite unique and allow these children to enjoy their holidays learning a useful skill that can help develop their village as well as playing. This is especially important as Kamasan puppet painters are becoming increasingly rare over time. Many young people prefer to work as formal employees or as silversmith and goldsmith.

Fortunately, painter Nyoman Mandra has taken it upon himself to invite children to learn Kamasan-style puppet painting in his painting studio called Wasundari. This offer has been met with positive responses.

A number of youngsters including one junior high school student named Nyoman Adi Pradana are eager to spend their school break learning this traditional skill. Adi said that he was joining this lesson, not just to kill time over the holiday but also so that he can improve in his painting hobby.

Adi also explained that at school he is also taught how to draw Kamasanstyle puppets. He is eager to improve his skills so that he can carry on the talent of his father Wayan Muadalara who is also a painter. “ I have been learning how to paint from grandpa Mandra for the last three years. I like

to make paintings of Lord Ganesha and other gods” said Nyoman Adi Pradana.

Ten year old Ni Made Putri Arta Dewi expressed similar opinions.

This student from SDN 1 Kamasan elementary school has been learning to paint since May. She said that learning to paint Kamasan-style puppets is not just a hobby but is also mandatory at school. Besides, she said he village is known as the Kamasan puppet painting village, so as a resident of Kamasan, she must know how to paint in thi style even if she is not as adept as her grandfather and grandmother. “Half of me wants to become a painter while the other half wants to become a doctor. However it is my obligation to know how to paint because it is our ancestral heritage” said Dewi.

According to Dewi, painting Kamasan-style puppet is not easy and she has trouble making the edge lines.

The sketches of the puppets she added can only be made by certain people.

As a resident of Kamsan, she is encouraged to paint luke her colleagues.

“My father is an electrician, and my mother is a tailor. However, I want to be a painter because my grandparents can paint as well”, she said.

Master painter Nyoman Mandra acknowledged however that less and less children are interested in

this unique art form. IN the 1970’s , he said, most of the children in the village learned to paint. At that time it was not only local residents who were interested in this painting style but youngsters from other countries like Austria, the U.S. (Colorado and Seattle), Sydney, Australia and other places, also enjoyed leaning this style. Most of foreigners who learn to paint classical Kamasan puppets are university students who came to do research for three months.

Mandra admitted that at first only 12 students came to learn to paint in his studio, but gradually this number increased to 50. Some of these students are from Kamasan but there are also some form Mas, Ubud, Gianyar, Banjarangkan and even Karangasem.

Over time, however the number of students wantign to learn how to paint in the Kamasan style has gone down.

Mandra suspects this is because nowadays young students are very busy with extra curricular activities.

Young people are also more often choosing to become silversmith and goldsmith rather than painters. Mandra explained that he has deliberately chosen to teach children as they are easier to teach that older people. “ I’m a little worried that over time there will be no more Kamasan puppet painters” he said. The election of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) three years ago has emboldened right-wing Hindu groups to push harder for protection of the cow, an animal they consider sacred.

Authorities in India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh, started closing down unlicensed abattoirs in March, immediately hitting production and sales in the Muslimdominated meat industry.

Last month Modi’s government also banned trading cattle for slaughter, including not just cows, whose killing was already outlawed in most states, but also buffalo, an animal used for meat and leather.

Now the squeeze is spreading to others in the Muslim minority and to lower-caste Hindus who cart cattle, labour in tanneries and make shoes, bags and belts - including for big name brands such as Zara and Clarks.

LONDON - British Prime Minister Theresa May edged closer to clinching a deal to stay in power with the support of Northern Irish kingmakers on Wednesday, but faced a battle over Brexit just days before divorce talks are due to begin.

After days of political turmoil sparked by her botched gamble on a snap election, May’s Conservative Party resumed talks with a small Northern Irish Protestant party on securing the support of its 10 members of parliament to pass legislation.

May said late on Wednesday that the talks were continuing, but that a fire that devastated a 24-storey tower block in London, killing at least 12 people, had taken priority.

Arlene Foster, the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), met May for talks in Downing Street

on Tuesday but Sky News reported she had returned to Belfast on Wednesday evening, leaving party colleagues to continue the negotiations.

“We are continuing to have talks but today, as you will imagine, there has been a real focus on this terrible tragedy in London,” May said.

Even with a deal nearing to secure her government’s survival, May is so weakened that her Brexit strategy has become the subject of public debate inside her own party, with two former prime ministers urging her to soften her approach.

May has said the divorce talks, likely to be the most complex in Europe since World War Two, will begin as planned next week and her Brexit minister, David Davis, said Britain’s negotiating position was unchanged.

“There is a unity of purpose among people in the United Kingdom,” May said following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

“It’s a unity of purpose, having voted to leave the EU, that their government gets on with that and makes a success of it.”

But with so much at stake for Britain and its $2.5 trillion economy, pressure was mounting on May from within and without her party to heed other voices.

May now faces the task of satisfying both the pro-European and eurosceptic factions of her party, keeping Northern Ireland calm and negotiating a divorce with 27 other EU members whose combined economic might is more than five times that of Britain. (rtr)

Wayang Wong of Tejakula

Dancers’ constumes very simple before the 1980’s

The WAYANG Wong or ‘human puppet’ of Tejakula is an art form that has managed to survive despite the swift currents of globalization. This traditional dance has been received time and time again over the generations, though as it turns out the costumes of the dancers have changed considerably over the last few decades.

Today Wayang Wong dancers wear quite luxurious costumes, whereas before the 1980’s it was enough for the dancers to dawn batik cloth and very simple accessories for these performances.

Tejakula’s Wayang Wong (human puppet) dance is one of Buleleng’s older art forms and includes not only dance but also theater and pslamody. It is no wonder that this art from handed down through eh generations is defined as an intangible world heritage by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The sacred version of Tekakula’s Wayang Wong can only be performed at large scale ceremonies at trinity temples, Danka Temples ngenteg linggih. Before being danced, the masks used by the dancers must go through the bhakti pamungkah ceremony held at Maksan temple.

This human puppet show also has a profane version intended for entertainment. This version can be danced outside of the context of religious ceremonies. In such cases different masks are used.

Tejakulas’ Wayang Wong human puppet shows share a lesson told through a story of the battle of good and evil taken from the Ramayana epic. Nowadays the dancers use luxurious costumes with outer garments that are covered in gold leaf motifs of golden radiance, white trousers, a Kris knife at their back and colorful neck and head ornaments.

Komang, Chairman of the Teja Kukus Foundation, who is involved preserving the art of Wayang Wong, elaborate such costumes only emerged in the 1980s. “innovations to the costumes emerged after the establishment of the preservation foundation” he said after taking part in the Cultural Dialogue held by culture agency at Sasana Budaya on Tuesday (Jun 13).

Previously, he explained, Wayang Wong dancers used very simple pants, batik cloth a strap and a simple neck ornament with nothing in their hair. “I still remember that before the 1980s, the elders danced with very simple costumes”, he said.

The rapid flow of globalization coupled with the increasingly fast paced lifestyle of society, means that the art of the human puppet dance is facing formidable challenges. Staging of Wayang Wong –especially when it is meant for entertainment does not draw a lot of interest from the younger generation. Komang therefor believes that they need to come up with innovative ways of keeping audiences interested, such as making jokes that are related to contemporary life during the show. “We can still keep the style of the dance as it is, innovation does not have to eliminate the essence, this way we can preserve this heritage”, he added.

Head of the Buleleng Culture Agency, Putu Tastra Wijaya, mentioned that in order to interest the public in watching traditional art performances, like the human puppet for instance, innovations are indeed needed. Presenting traditional songs in combination with contemporary dance and music for example could interest certain groups of people, he said. “ Wayang Wong holds great philosophical wisdom that must be maintained amidst innovations” he affirmed. 29 companies threatened to have their environemntal permit revoked

MANGUPURA — Dozens of companies in the district of Badung are threatened with having their environmental permits revoked for not complying with regulations. A total of 29 companies have been issued letters of reprimand by the local environment and sanitation agency (DLHK), demanding that they correct their practices.

Head of the DLHK Badung, Putu Eka Merthawan, said that the worst violations are companies not reporting their business at all though the most common violations are cases of buildings not being up to the standards required by the environmental permit that had been issued to them.

“For example, a building permit is registered at location A, but the building g was in fact built elsewhere.

This is classified as a misuse of permit. We reprimand a lot of companies for this type of infraction. If our reprimand is ignored, we can revoke the permit,” said Eka Merthawan as the 29 companies were issued letters of reprimand in Badung on Tuesday (Jun 13).

Merthawan explained that since 2016, at least 150 companies have been declared to be in violation of building regulations. Of that number a total of 29 companies were immediately given letters of reprimand requiring them to correct their mistakes..

“Now, we are issuing another 29 letters of reprimand to companies classified as having committed serious violations’ he said.

Most of the offenders, he said are tourist accommodation businesses and trade service businesses. Violations range from environmental pollution, to violations of building permits to environmental destruction.

“This is only a first reprimand. If they remain recalcitrant, we will revoke their permit as the consequence.

We have the authority to supervise these companies as well as revoke their environmental permit if their environmental documents (UKL/UPL) and the environmental impact analysis (AMDAL) are issued based on the DLHK recommendation and are not being

adhered to”, he explained.

According to the stipulation of these permits, said Eka Merthawan, entrepreneurs are also required to report the existence of their business every six months.

Most of the hundreds who failed to report their business operations have come up with various pretexts for why they have not complied, he added.

“Since we have issued the recommendations for their permits, they are obliged to report their business every six months. Otherwise, they are in violation of the stipulations of the permit. The delivery of the letters of reprimand to the 29 companies involved a number of relevant agencies including the municipal police, investment and integrated licensing office as well as the tourism office”, he said. Jembrana reconstructs Semar Pegulingan

Results in Kubu Reod (slanted hut) DENPASAR - The Manik Pasupati Semar Pegulingan Gamelan Troupe had the opportunity to perform at the 39th Bali Arts Festival in the Angsoka Stage of the Denpasar Art Center on Wednesday (Jun. 14). This art troupe from Puseh Agung customary village, Tengah, Negara, presented the result of a reconstruction of the semara pegulingan gamelan piece that is considered to be new to the region. “This is a new gamelan piece for our region in Jembrana and was composed to suit the character of the gamelan”, said the leader of Manik Pasupati gamelan troupe, I Kade Arya Parjana.

Parjana explained that the reconstruction of the gamelan piece known as semara pegulingan resulted in a pategak gamelan composition entitled the Kubu Reod (literally, slanted shack). This title refers to ancient culture that remains to survive in the modern era. Although it may appear slanted, it can still provide serenity to everyone who sits there.

“I think this gamelan composition refers to the festival’s theme of (Ulun Danu- protecting water) as slanted shacks are also commonly found in rice paddy fields and are associated with agrarian traditions. During harvest season, farmers use these shacks to unwind when they become tired”, he said.

He added that the gamelan troupe is also supported by the DJ Kepakisan young artist community and the Gayatri dance studio in their performance of four gamelan compositions and dance performances including the Kubu Reod. The three other compositions are; lengker cenik, the Legong Kuntul dance, and the Jauk Manis dance. Lengker cenik is one of the gambuh-style gamelan compositions used to accompany Panji Dance or Patih Manis using the tetekep lebeng. But, the semara pegulingan gamelan music often uses tetekep tembung.

“A total of 25 gamelan players and five dancers are involved in this performance who rehearsed for a month and a half. This was a very short time to prepare, but we have performed at the BAF five times already so it made it easier for us to get ready for the gong kebyar, the puppet gender competition and others”, he explained.

Instructor of the Legong Kuntul dance, Ni Wayan Ardani, said that the legong dancers, including herself, are mostly students. Despite the relative difficulty of this 20 minute dance, they manged to master it a month.

“Legong is indeed a bit difficult. The important thing is to have mastered the basic postures and techniques so that this

fast dance can be memorized more easily”, said this dance instructor from Gayatri dance studio. Breathing is really important in this dance, as is good balance, without the proper techniques the dancers are quickly exhausted, she added.

“In essence, we control the breath so that when there is a movement that requires a lot of energy, we focus there while for the slower movements our strength is not focused so much on the breath”, she said. (kmb32)

Dibia explained that this performance of the classical prembon was quite rare as normally it is danced by 5 artists while here a total of ten Balinese art maestros (and senior dancers) took part: I Wayan Dibia, Cokorda Raka Tisnu, I Made Djimat, Ni Nyoman Candri, Ni Ketut Karmini, I Gusti Putu Sudarta, I Ketut Kodi, I Made Bandem, I Gusti Lanang Ardika and I Nyoman Catra.

“We would like to show the correct format. In other words if they (young artists) are able to follow, it’s okay. But at least, they know there is a standard that can be used as a

benchmark”, added this professor of the ISI Denpasar.

Dibia explained that the basis of prembon is mixture as in a combination of what is known as prembon masks and galuh or mantras.. There is also prembon that can be combine masks, the baris dance, jauk and barong. Then, there is the dominant prembon or also known as arja operetta that is supplemented with several other additional plays. The classical prembon that was staged by the maestros was in the form of the prembon mask. “So, the structure applies a mask performance format.

However, in the middle of the story there are characters who do not wear masks, namely the princess, galuh and condong”, he added. The ap-

pearance of the maestros, continued Dibia, was also supported by senior gamelan players consisting of ISI Denpasar lecturers, an alumnus and senior gamelan players from outside ISI. The duration of the performance that staged the storyline “Oath and Pledge Kebo Iwa” was a considerable 2.5 hours. Although the players are all considered experts they still practiced before the show.

“We rehearsed for two days. The roles had been assigned earlier so everyone knew what to do. We never perform without first practicing” explained the artist wearing “the old mask” and playing the role of Gajah Mada and the Pasung Grigis figure.

Dibia explained that the figure

of Kebo Iwa who featured in the play depicts the promise of a prominent vice regent in the age of the Bedahulu Kingdom. He vows to always be faithful and obedient to the king’s order for the unity of the archipelago. Although the unitary state of the RI (NKRI) was not yet formed at that time, this classical prembon storyline implicitly speaks to the current condition of this country. “The storyline itself is not talking about the NKRI. It is up to the audience to make such associations. This is where the strength of performing arts lies. Hopefully this performance by the maestros can inspire your artists- particularly dancers” concluded this passionate elder. (kmb32)

Cosby sex assault jury ends third day of without verdict NORRISTOWN - The jurors deciding comedian Bill Cosby’s fate at his sexual assault trial delved into his accuser’s account on Wednesday, their third day of deliberations, but failed to reach a verdict.

The jury was dismissed for the night at about 9 p.m. (0100 GMT).

The court reporter read back portions of Andrea Constand’s testimony describing how Cosby drugged her and then sexually assaulted her at his Philadelphia-area home in 2004. Later in the day, the jury reviewed Cosby’s six-hour 2005 police interview in which he acknowledged giving Constand anti-allergy pills but characterized the encounter as consensual “petting.”

Cosby, 79, has denied Constand’s allegations, as well as dozens of similar accusations made by women stretching back decades. Only Constand’s claims are recent enough to have led to criminal charges.

The jury began deliberations in Norristown, Pennsylvania, on Monday and stayed late each night since then. They have now deliberated for a total of nearly 30 hours and will resume on Thursday morning.

Cosby, the star of the 1980s hit TV series “The Cosby Show,” did not testify during the trial but his account of the night in question was shown to jurors in his sworn depositions in 2005 and 2006 during Constand’s civil lawsuit as well as the 2005 police interview.

As the deliberations continued on Wednesday, the crowd outside the Montgomery County courthouse appeared to have grown.

“A lot of people looked up to him. I did when I was a kid,” said Roland Jennings, 66, who drove about 20 miles (32 km) from West Chester to wait for the verdict. “He brought this on himself.”

Since starting deliberations, the jurors have re-examined both Cosby’s and Constand’s versions of the encounter, with particular focus on the pills he gave her beforehand.

YouTube singer Austin Jones arrested on child pornography charges Austin Jones was charged with two counts of production of child pornography, according to a complaint filed on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Chicago, where he appeared. He is being held in federal custody pending another hearing on Thursday.

Jones has racked up millions of views on YouTube, a unit of Alphabet Inc, with his covers of pop songs and has more than 200,000 followers across his Twitter, Instagram and YouTube channels.

Jones’ attorney Gerardo Solon Gutierrez said by phone that the singer

was “innocent until proven guilty.”

His arrest marked another scandal involving YouTube’s social media personalities. In February, YouTube and Walt Disney Co cut ties with influential Swedish social media star PewDiePie, who boasted some 53 million YouTube followers, after he posted a series of videos deemed anti-Semitic.

According to the federal complaint, Jones used Facebook and Apple Inc’s iMessage service to request sexually explicit videos from girls aged about 14 to 15.

The documents allege that Jones

sent numerous messages to two 14year-old female fans from 2016 and 2017 in which he instructed them to expose their genitals in videos sent to him through Facebook.

A review of his social media activities showed that “his primary fan base appears to be teenage girls,” the court documents said, adding that Facebook shut down Jones’ page a month ago due to his involvement with minors on the network.

Facebook Inc said in a statement on Wednesday: “We have zero tolerance for sharing or soliciting child exploitative images or videos on Facebook, and we cooperate with law enforcement agencies that investigate these crimes.” (rtr)

Family of freed student adjusting to ‘different reality’

WYOMING — The father of an American college student who was imprisoned in North Korea and was returned to his home state of Ohio in a coma says the family is “adjusting to a different reality.” Fred Warmbier told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Wednesday that his son, Otto, was “terrorized and brutalized” during his 17-month detention and has been in a coma for more than a year. “The day after he was sentenced, he went into a coma,” the father said in an interview scheduled to air Thursday night. He said he and his wife, Cindy, only learned of their son’s condition last week.

The 22-year-old University of Virginia student was medically evacuated from North Korea and arrived in Cincinnati late Tuesday.

He was then taken by ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman did not provide an update on his condition, but said his parents planned to hold a Thursday morning news conference. Their public appearance will be at Wyoming High School, one of Ohio’s toprated schools. Warmbier graduated

from there in 2013 as class salutatorian and had played soccer.

Residents of the northern Cincinnati suburb tied blue-and-white ribbons, the school colors, to trees near the family’s home. Joy at his release was mixed with concern over his condition. In its first official comment since Warmbier was returned home, North Korea said it released him over humanitarian reasons. The state-run Korean Central News Agency on Thursday said he had been sentenced to hard labor but did not comment on

his medical condition.

Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said there should be an investigation into what happened to Warmbier leading to this “tragic situation.”

Richardson, a Democrat, credited the Department of State with securing Warmbier’s return from North Korea without any preconditions but said a forceful response from the U.S. government would be required “if its determined that

there was a cover-up and Otto’s condition was not disclosed and he didn’t get proper treatment.”

City councilwoman Jenni McCauley said the tight-knit community was “thrilled” to have Warmbier back. “Even though they’re saddened by his condition, they’re just glad for the family that he is home,” McCauley said. “For any parent, this is their worst nightmare. ... We’re hoping that he will be OK.” Warmbier was serving a 15-year prison term with hard labor in North Korea after he tearfully confessed that he tried to steal a propaganda banner while visiting the country.

Such detentions in the totalitarian nation have added to tensions between Washington and Pyongyang. Three Americans remain in custody.

The U.S. government accuses North Korea of using such detainees

as political pawns. North Korea accuses Washington and South Korea of sending spies to overthrow its government. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Tuesday that his department was continuing “to have discussions” with North Korea about the release of the other three imprisoned American citizens. When asked

by Fox News what he would tell the families of those detained, Fred Warmbier said, “I wouldn’t know what to say to them.
