LOS ANGELES - Justin Timberlake snagged the No.1 Spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart with âMan of the Woods,â despite harsh reviews and a Super Bowl halftime show that was deemed underwhelming on social media and by music critics. âMan of the Woods,â Timberlakeâs first studio album since 2013, sold more than 242,000 units in its first week of release, according to Nielsen Music data released on Monday. The Billboard 200 chart tallies units from album sales, song sales (10 songs equal one album) and streaming activity (1,500 streams equal one album). âMan of the Woodsâ marks Timberlakeâs fourth Billboard No.1 album and was the biggest-selling album in the U.S. since Taylor Swiftâs âReputationâ in December 2017, Billboard said. It debuted at No.1 after a Feb. 4 Super Bowl performance consisting mostly of Timberlakeâs old hits that also featured a controversial segment featuring a huge projection of Prince, who died in 2016. The former NSYNC singer also took heat on social media for failing to mention, or perform with, Janet Jackson after
an infamous 2004 Super Bowl appearance which ended with Timberlake ripping off Jacksonâs top and accidentally briefly exposing her breast. Nevertheless, the Super Bowl and halftime show were watched by some 103 million Americans on television. Nielsen Music reported last week that on-demand audio and video streams for all of the songs performed by Timberlake jumped 45 percent on the day after the game, compared to the day before. Timberlake, best known for pop tracks like âSexyBackâ and âRock Your Body,â promoted âMan of the Woodsâ as a country-inspired album that took him back to his Memphis roots. But the album had few fans among music reviewers. Esquire called it âdisappointingâ and âkind of embarrassing,â while USA Today said the album âcanât pull off its Americana-pop fusion.â (rtr)

LOS ANGELES - Some film critics are calling it the best Marvel movie so far; others say itâs a correction after years of neglecting minority talent in Hollywood. The predominantly black cast of superhero movie âBlack Pantherâ hope its combination of African pride, beauty and kick-ass adventure will also mark a cultural shift in the movie industry and beyond. The Disney movie, opening worldwide this week, tells the story of TâChalla/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), the new king of the futuristic, wealth-laden African nation Wakanda, who is challenged by factions within his own country. âMarvel has a way of really affecting popular culture,â said Lupita Nyongâo, who plays the
Wakandan warrior spy, Nakia. âHopefully it changes the general idea of what being an African is. Too often times we see Africa as a place that is wanting, and here itâs a place that you want to go,â she said. The movie, directed by Ryan Coogler and also featuring Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett, Forest Whittaker and Daniel Kaluuya, arrives to stellar reviews after years of criticism about the under-representation of movies, actors and filmmakers of color in Hollywood. Analysts expect it to rake in some $150 million at the North American box office on its opening weekend, and the filmmakers hope it will encourage studios to invest in more mainstream, racially
diverse films. âItâs not often that you see two black men in a movie playing a role of this importance. You see it with white actors, (like) âOceanâs Elevenâ where itâs Brad Pitt and Matt Damon and George Clooney, and itâs like âwhy does that never happen with us?ââ Boseman said. âHopefully the success of this will make it be commonplace. Itâll make Hollywood stop saying âwell, your movies donât travel,â he said. âBlack Pantherâ also offers a new type of villain through Jordanâs Killmonger, an empathetic former military black-ops agent, who wants to distribute Wakandaâs wealth to arm the worldâs black population and help them rise to power. President of South Africa Jacob Zuma gestures to his supporters at the 54th National Conference of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) in Johannesburg, South Africa December 16, 2017.
ANC decides to remove Zuma as South African President
JOHANNESBURG - The ANC has decided to sack Jacob Zuma as President of South Africa, a senior official said on Tuesday, after a marathon meeting to determine the fate of a leader whose scandal-plagued years in power darkened and divided Nelson Mandelaâs âRainbow Nationâ. The decision by the ruling partyâs national executive came in the early hours of the morning, after 13 hours of tense deliberations and one face-to-face meeting between Zuma and his presumed successor, deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa. Zuma has been living on borrowed time since Ramaphosa, a union leader once tipped as Mandelaâs pick to take over the reins, was elected as head of the 106-year-old ANC in December, narrowly defeating Zumaâs ex-wife, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
