To achieve this year’s target, the promotional efforts in Australia would focus on four major cities, namely Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, she said.

The funds required for the promotional programs in Australia totaled Rp2 billion with part it to be provided by the government and the rest by tourism industry players in Bali.

Noviandi said the numbers of Australian tourists visiting Indonesia had always been relatively big but the Australian market had actually never been canvassed through direct promotional efforts.

The ministry would soon send an

“Australia Sales Mission 2011” to Australia in which 28 tourism industry players in Bali would take part. Of the number, 24 would be entities engaged in accommodations, two in attractions and the rest in the travel business. They were all members of the Bali Village association.

Candra said the experience of American and European countries in the handling international scale corruption would greatly help uncover the cases. Many cases of corruption could be resolved after the establishment of inter-state cooperation. Currently, the KPK itself had formed a partnership with Singapore, Britain, Germany, Switzerland and the United States

through its FBI. Disclosure of corruption cases handled by the commission could not go alone, but had to establish cooperation with other parties. Any case involving foreigners with Indonesian citizens should be handled through inter-state cooperation. For Indonesian perpetrators would be handled by KPK. Conversely, foreign perpetrators would be handed over to their respective home country.

“Do not let our people only be

handled, while foreign nationals who are also committing a corruption are even not processed. Parwati confessed if a job as an Asmat craftsman was much easier and more profitable. “At first, I was running out of capital as deceived by a tour guide,” she said.

She added the tour guide was an intermediary between herself and the buyer from Australia. Actually, the buyer had paid for the statues dispatched to Australia.

However, the tour guide did not hand over the money to her. “As consequence, my statues were indeed sold out, but I did not receive any money. It happened to me for several times. Initially, my craft business had well-developed.

Moreover, I had time to join an exhibition in Jakarta,” said Parwati.

Currently, she actually wanted to revive her Asmat statue craft business. However, she claimed to have no enough funds as initial capital. Moreover, the price of raw materials such as wood, paint and others currently tended to increase.

Aside from being easier and more profitable, her desire to re-open the Asmat statue handicraft business was considering she got success in the previous business.

She could accommodate many workers. “In the past, I hired about 10 local residents. Until these days, they still continue to ask me why I did not re-build such handicraft business,” she added.

Parwati admitted if her business began to gasp for breath but finally come to an end tragically in 2009.

High waves, traditional crossing hampered

Dozens of passengers diverted to Padangbai Semarapura (Bali Post)—

Dozens of passengers of traditional port in the coastal territory of Kusamba, Dawan, Klungkung, had to be transferred to the Padangbai Port, Karangasem, Wednesday (May 11), following the high waves occurred at the coast of Kusamba. Traditional boats did not dare to cross to and from Nusa Penida as usual. It was recognized by the officer of traditional port of Bias Hamlet, Kusamba, Made Sedana Yoga, when asked for his confirmation last Wednesday.

According to the official from the Klungkung Transportation, Communication and Informatics Services (Dishubkominfo), the crossing services from Bias Hamlet to Sampalan Port, Nusa Penida, were usually held two times each day. The morning departure was around 7:30 a.m. and noon at 12:00 a.m.

However, due to high waves reaching three meters, the crossing services departing at noon was cancelled. “The morning crossing could go on as the waves were still normal,” said Sedana Yoga. Meanwhile, the crossing services at that morning, he added, departing from Bias Hamlet conveyed at least 50 passengers and so did from the opposite

direction (Sampalan Port, Nusa Penida to Bias Hamlet Port, Kusamba).

High waves started from 10:00 a.m. till late afternoon last Wednesday. As a result, approximately 15 passengers who wanted to cross from Bias Hamlet to Nusa Penida had to be transferred to Padangbai. “We did not dare to cross by force because it was very dangerous,” he said. Sedana Yoga also added if within the past two months, the waves were stable or normal. However, he claimed not to know why the waves suddenly went up, especially at the coastal region reaching up to several meters. “In the middle of the sea, the waves were indeed calm,” he said. After 13 Beaches in Bali were indicated to have been contaminated by waste, new findings were also released by Bali Environment Agency (BLH). Three lakes in Bali (Lake Batur, Lake Buyan and Lake Beratan) were indicated to have been contaminated by waste. “Of the many parameters tested, two of which were not eligible, such as the content of phosphate and organic matter exceeding the standard,” said the Head of BLH Bali, AA Alit Sastrawan, when contacted by Bali Post last Tuesday. “However, these findings have not reached alarming level,” he added.

Pursuant to existing standards, the content of phosphate and organic substances allowed was 2 mg /liter for phosphate and 10 mg/liter for organic substances. High phosphate content in the three lakes was probably caused by agricultural activities around the lake. “High level of phosphate is possibly caused by chemical fertilizers used by farmers around the lake,” he said.

“Most importantly is that how each perpetrator should be responsible for the waste generated, and what are our efforts to reduce the pollution level,” he said. Compared to the three lakes, the condition of Lake Tamblingan was still pretty good. (kmb)

The current shortage of the central parking capacity downtown Denpasar is addressed by the Denpasar Spatial Planning and Housing Services (DTRP). This institution has found a new location that is appropriate for a central parking lot. It is not far from downtown, namely in the northern part of Jalan Sulawesi that was formerly used for the location of street vendors.

“We plan to use the land next to the Badung Market for an additional parking lot, so the needs of parking spaces can be met adequately,” said the Head of DTRP Denpasar, I Made Kesuma Diputra, who was met in the Parliament Building, Wednesday (May 11).

He planned the budget of the central parking lot development could be allocated in the Regional Budget amendment at the end of 2011. According to him, the land was estimated to accommodate about 100 units of fourwheeled vehicles because it applied the same pattern as used by the courtyard central parking, namely the basement pattern. “Hopefully, this plan can get a response from all parties,” he said.

Currently, the downtown Denpasar has already had three central parking spaces. They are the courtyard parking lot at Badung Market, Payuk Market (south of Kumbasari Market), as well as Lokitasari Market. These three cen-

From the research made by the Udayana University, the need for parking lot in Denpasar at least should have 282 lots for parking spaces of four-wheel vehicles. According to the research conducted by I Gusti Putu Suparsa, a lecturer of civil engineering in the Udayana University, the average duration of parking was for 1.2 hours. The busiest parking occupancy occurred during the period of 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day. On the

other side, the Head of Denpasar Transportation Services, I Gede Astika, said his party had not made a thorough study because it was just limited to a plan. “It is merely a plan,” he said briefly.

In response to this plan, the Secretary of Denpasar Customary Village, AA Putu Gede Wibawa, said if his party was unable to give comment on the plan. Moreover, his party had not had time to conduct a meeting with other apparatus of customary village.

Current President Porfirio Lobo was elected in November 2009 elections that had been scheduled before the coup. The U.S. and other countries restored ties shortly after Lobo took office in January 2010.

But Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Nicaragua and Ecuador have opposed restoring Honduras to the OAS unless Zelaya can return from exile without facing the threat of prison.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land.

Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

MADRID – Two earthquakes struck southeast Spain in quick succession Wednesday, killing at least 10 people, injuring dozens and causing major damage to buildings, officials said. It was the highest quake-related death toll in Spain in more than 50 years.

The epicenter of the quakes — with magnitudes of 4.4 and 5.2 — was close to the town of Lorca, and the second came about two hours after the first, an official with the Murcia regional government said on condition of anonymity in line with department policy.

Dozens of injured people were being treated at the scene and a field hospital was set up in the town of about 85,000 people, officials said.

About 270 patients at a hospital in Lorca were being evacuated by ambulance as a precaution after the building sustained minor damage, the Murcia regional government said.

The Spanish prime minister’s office put the death toll at 10 and the Murcia administration said the deaths included a minor and occurred with the second, stronger quake.

Spanish TV showed images of cars that were partially crushed by falling rubble, and large cracks in buildings.

Nervous groups of residents gathered in open public places, talking about what happened and calling relatives and friends on their cell phones. An elderly woman appeared to be in shock and was seated in a chair as people tried to calm her.

“I felt a tremendously strong movement, followed by a lot of noise, and I was really frightened,” the newspaper El Pais quoted another Lorca resident Juani Avellanada as saying. It did

not give her age.

Yet another resident, Juana Ruiz, said her house split open with the quake and “all the furniture fell over,” according to El Pais.

Many residents decided to spend the night camped out in parks and other open spaces, fearing aftershocks and because of structural damage to their homes, according to state TV footage.

This was the deadliest quake in Spain since 1956, when 12 people died and some 70 were injured in a quake in the southern Granada region, according to the National Geographic Institute. It says Spain has about 2,500 quakes a year, but only a handful are actually noticed by people.

Spain’s south and southeast are the most earthquake-prone regions. The U.S. Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colorado, had slightly different magnitudes for the temblors.

BEIJING – Police have arrested a man they said broke into China’s famed Forbidden City, the heavily guarded former home of the country’s emperors, and stole seven art pieces made of gold and jewels, state media reported Thursday. It was the first theft in 20 years from the historic site, the tourist attraction’s spokesman Feng Nai’en said, adding that security would be increased.

nine pieces — all small Westernstyle gold purses and mirrored compacts covered with jewels made in the 20th century — were missing from the temporary exhibition, on loan from the private Liang Yi Museum in Hong Kong.

Two of the missing items were recovered nearby shortly after the theft and were slightly damaged.

State media said Thursday that police had caught a man called Shi Bokui in an Internet cafe Wednesday night who confessed to the robbery. The China Daily said

some of the seven remaining stolen pieces were recovered, but did not give details.Feng said Wednesday the entire Palace Museum will be checked to see if any other items are missing.

“For this to happen here shows us that, No. 1, we need to speed up the modernization and installation of our security systems,” Feng said. “No. 2, we need to investigate carefully and find out if we can implement better, more modern and more sophisticated security systems.”

DAKAR, Senegal – The African nation of Congo has been called the worst place on earth to be a woman.

A new study released Wednesday shows that it’s even worse than previously thought: 1,152 women are raped every day, a rate equal to 48 per hour. That rate is 26 times more than the previous estimate of 16,000 rapes reported in one year by the United Nations.

Michelle Hindin, an associate professor at Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health who specializes in gender-based violence, said the rate could be even higher. The source of the data, she noted, is a survey that was conducted through faceto-face interviews, and people are not always forthcoming about the violence they have suffered when talking to strangers. “The numbers are astounding,” she said.

Congo, a nation of 70 million people that is equal in size to Western Europe, has been plagued by decades of war. Its vast forests are rife with militias that have systematically used rape to destroy communities.

The analysis, which will be published in the American Journal of Public Health in June, shows that

more than 400,000 women had been raped in Congo during a 12-month period between 2006 and 2007.

On average 29 Congolese women out of every 1,000 had been raped nationwide. That means that even in the parts of Congo that are not affected by the war, a woman is 58 times more likely to be raped than a woman in the United States, where the annual rate is 0.5 per 1,000 women.

Previous estimates of the number of rapes were derived from police and health center reports in the nation’s troubled east where the conflict is concentrated. The authors of the study used figures from a government health survey and pooled data from across the country.

The highest frequency of rape was found in North Kivu, the province most affected by the conflict, where 67 women per 1,000 had been raped at least once. “The message is important and clear: Rape in (Congo) has metastasized amid a climate of impunity, and has emerged as one of the great human crises of our time,” said Michael VanRooyen, the director of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. Margot Wallstrom, the U.N. special representative for sexual violence in conflict, welcomed the study.

84 Garuda planes obtain international flight licenses Antara

SURABAYA - Some 84 planes of state-owned airline company Garuda Indonesia have managed to secure international operational licenses for the safety of its passengers on its domestic and international routes.

“The recent accident of a Merpati Nusantara plane had prompted us and the airline company’s managers to increase safety,” Business Development Manager of PT Garuda Indonesia for Eastern Indonesia Ismu Gito Waluyo said from here on Wednesday.

When asked how Garuda would guarantee the safety of its passengers, he said the management is ready to give increased services to people using the safe and secure services of his company at all airports.

“The international flight license that we have obtained allows us to

resume our international flight services,” he said.

While having the license, he said adequate control and engine maintenance are regularly conducted feminizing all kinds of operational errors. Besides secured and sustained aircraft availability, the company is also renewing airport safety audits prioritizing the comfort and safety of the consumers.

“We believe that under the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) audit, the confidence of the people in this airline company would remain in tact,” he said.

On the other hand, he added, all Garuda Indonesia aircraft are Boeings and already known having an international license from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

In the meantime the company does not operate small planes for a

long time. In the case of Merpati Nusantara, the accident took place because its manufacturer has yet to obtain an FAA license.

“In this context we are optimistic that the Merpati Nusantara accident would no longer happen here. In Indonesia, airworthiness had already been issued by the Air Transportation Ministry, and Merpati Nusantara already having it,” he said.

On the effect of the increased number of passengers as the result of the surplus number of Merpati Nusantara passengers, he added, since the accident the number of passengers did not increased, apparently because Merpati Nusantara’s flight route is still no match to his company’s.

“An increase in the number of passengers is normally caused by the passengers’ routine behavior,” he said.

The target could be achieved if the government focused on increasing the productivity of oil palm plantations, he said at an international conference & exhibition on palm oil (ICE-PO) at the Jakarta Convention Center on Wednesday.

“Today the area of land is limited so it is impossible to expand oil palm plantations. What we can do to raise production is increasing the productivity of oil palm plantations,” he said.

The productivity of oil palm plantation currently reached 3 tons per hectare and the national CPO output stood at 22-23 million tons per year, he said.

To reach CPO production of 40 million tons a year, the productiv-

ity of oil palm plantation must be raised to 6 tons from 3 tons per hectare, he said.

He put the blame on poor cultivation for the low productivity of the country’s oil palm plantations.

Meanwhile, Chief of the Indonesian Plantation Businessmen Association (GPPI) Soedjai Kartasasmita predicted that the palm oil industry would have bright prospects in the future.

In the next five years the global population would increase, leading to a rise in food demand particularly vegetable oil, he said.

“The increase in the use of biofuels will increase CPO demand,” he said.

ASEAN needs common security standards: Minister Antara

JAKARTA - Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said ASEAN absolutely needs common security standards to create regional stability in support of its member states’ economic growth and bargaining power in global forums.

Purnomo made the remark at a meeting with editors-in-chief here on Wednesday. The meeting was called to explain the agenda of an ASEAN Defence Ministerial Meeting (ADMM) scheduled for May 19 in Jakarta.

The meeting is part of the activities carried out by Indonesia as the current chair of ASEAN. It also serves as the implementation of ASEAN three pillars which put emphasis on development of political, security and economic sectors in the quest for an ASEAN

community by 2015.

In essence, the meeting would focus on efforts to create a more stable and peaceful region, he said.

“We will focus on practical cooperation such as exchange of regional cooperation, settlement of dispute in the South China Sea, maritime security by realizing code of conduct among ASEAN member states in a clear manner,” he said.

Also in the agenda of the meeting would be counter-terrorism programs, informal meetings among defence and military top officials to settle a wide range of problems in the region by observing the ASEAN Charter, he said.

ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Government to build marine manpower office Antara

JAKARTA - Through a cooperation with related ministries, the government will soon build a marine manpower office, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry‘s Human Resources Development spokesman Syarief Widjaya said here on Wednesday.

He said the office was expected to arrange and manage the increasing overseas demand for marine and fisheries related manpower from Indonesia.

“A joint marine manpower office among Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry, Manpower and Transmigration Ministry, National Education Ministry, and

Transportation Ministry will soon be declared,” Syarief Widjaya said.

He said the office would be declared at the closure of International Job Fair on Marine and Fisheries in Jakarta from May 23-25, 2011.

Syarief explained that the joint marine manpower office was expected to permanently organize the

International Job Fair on Marine and Fisheries every year.

Besides, he added that the office of the cross-ministerial cooperation would also provide Indonesian job seekers in marine and fishery field with information about job opportunities.

He also said a lot of Indonesian sailors were working abroad at

present in the fields of shipping sector, fishery management industries, and aquaculture.

Meanwhile, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Fadel Muhammad said recently that around 12,000 Indonesians are currently working on board various ocean liners in international waters.

Bali Today President inspects BNDCCC Antara

NUSA DUA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono made an inspection of the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) before concluding his working visit to Bali on Wednesday.

BNDCC is located not far from Bali International Convention Center (BICC) which will house the ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit (EAS).

The convention center is currently still under construction and scheduled for completion in November this year before the conference scheduled to be attended by 18 heads of state/government including US President Barack Obama, is held.

President Yudhoyono flanked by his wife the First Lady Ani and a number of cabinet ministers were briefed on the facilities of the convention center.

The two-storey building standing on 25 thousand square meters of land had been erected accord-

ing to Balinese philosophy reflecting the harmonious relations between man and God, and fellow human beings and nature.

Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center has a total of 23 spaces, including five convention halls, 14 meeting rooms and a ballroom.

And an open space called plaza is located beside the BNDCC. Later the President and First Lady inspected the half-finished building.

The President was also accompanied by Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik, Minister coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Minister, State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, and Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam.

Garuda Indonesia plans to increase the frequency of its domestic and international flights this year as part of efforts to provide better services to the public.

DENPASAR - Garuda Indonesia plans to increase the frequency of its domestic and international flights this year as part of efforts to provide better services to the public.

“The frequency of domestic flights (from Jakarta) to Palembang will be increased to nine from eight, Batam from three to four, and Padang from three to four per day,” Garuda Indonesia General Manager for Bali Juby Prasetyo said on Wednesday.

The frequency of flights from Jakarta to Surabaya would also be increased to 16 from 15, and Balikpapan to eight from seven per day, he said.

The national flag carrier would also serve the Yogyakarta-Denpasar route thrice from twice a day and the Surabaya-Denpasar route four times from thrice a day, he said.

Juby said Garuda Indonesia would open new flight routes as of June 2011 following the delivery of new Airbus 330-200 plane.

Garuda also planned to increase the frequency of flights from

Denpasar to Seoul to five times from three times a week and from Jakarta to Bangkok from once to twice a day, he said.

In 2011, Garuda would also open three new domestic routes, namely Balikpapan-Surabaya, BalikpapanYogyakarta, and BalikpapanMakassar, he said.

As of November Garuda would also fly to Taipei, he said.

Garuda Indonesia Sales Executive for Bali Arlin Valinda said the increasing number of flight routes would have a positive impact on the tourism industry.

“International Yacht Race 2011” promotes RI’s marine tourism Antara

DENPASAR - The “Visit Indonesia Fremantle-Bali International Yacht Race 2011” was an event to promote marine tourism in Indonesia, an official said.

“The race was participated in by 23 yachts which started from Fremantle harbor in Australia on April 23, and reached the finish line at Benoa harbor in Bali on Mei 7, 2011,” the tourism and culture ministry’s marketing director general, Sapta Nirwandar, said at Hotel Sanur Beach, Bali.

The objectives of the Race were among other things to promote the country’s marine tourism, to improve the tourism image internationally and to strengthen the bilateral ties between Indonesia and Australia, he said.

“In addition to make the bilateral ties between Indonesia and Australia closer, we also want to foster relations with countries of the race’s participants,” he said.

He hoped that the race would attract more sailors to come to Indonesia.

“We have more than 17,500 islands, and not many countries could offer such an event to sail-

ing lovers,” Sapta Nirwandar said.

The Visit Indonesia Fremantle-Bali International Yacht Race 2011 had attracted around 200 foreigners, including yacht racers and their crew as well as relatives, to visit Indonesia, he said.

“We are optimistic that the yacht race in 2012 will attract more participants. The area more than 1,000 yachts have joined memberships in yacht organizations,” he said.

One participant of the race 2011 had made a speed record from that in 2010.

“The speed record was achieved by ‘Limit’’s Alan Brierty,” he said. ‘Limit’ added yet another trophy to Alan Brierty’s cabinet when she claimed line honors in the Visit Indonesia Fremantle Bali 2011 international yacht race.

In the process, she shattered Rolly Tasker’s 30 year old record for the race, finishing in a little over six days and five hours.

In the second to seventh places were respectively ‘Audeamus’, ‘Australian Maid’, ‘Phoenix’, ‘Sue Sea’, ‘Libertine’, ‘Walk on the Wild Side’, and ‘Bird of the Morning’ yachts.

In devotional services through the arts Beauty can stop everyone’s eyes flickering. Beauty of the kid song can lullaby a baby. Similarly, beauty also can toss the imagination, soothe the mind and draw people to get near. Bali has many sources of that beauty offering the charm of nature, culture or adventure.

By maintaining traditions inspired by Hinduism, Balinese people go on running in harmony with the time. In other words, they do not feel inferior because of inheriting those traditions.

Beauty in the form of various dance movements has been introduced since early ages. On seeing a dance staged, a toddler may watch it attentively or its fingers move and move as if imitating the movement of the dance.

Virtually all customary villages in Bali have gamelan troupe. This troupe plays important role in expressing their entertainment arts and accompanying every ritual activity. This existence gives opportunity to villagers from child to adult to express their artistic talent especially in dance, drama and gamelan arts. Young girls under twelve or elementary school age have a chance to participate in performing Rejang Dance. By wearing white and yellow costumes and floral decoration on head, they dance beautifully accompanied by gamelan music.

Rejang Dance is one of the sacred dances performed in relation

to the organization of temple anniversary or odalan. Other than putting a basic love to their tradition, they also show devotional service or ngatur ayah through the arts.

When they grow older, right on entering secondary school, they join customary village youth club or Sekaa Taruna. Here, with their male friends and their brothers and sisters start to learn about organization. Many things can be learned through this organization.

Since it has affiliation to customary village, they can learn about the making of some simple oblation under guidance of senior oblation maker and various traditional arts. In Bali, this youth club actually play important role in preparing young generation to maintain their valuable cultural heritages or to prepare themselves for inheriting customary responsibility.

With their male counterpart, here the young girls also learn to play drama or more complex traditional arts. Popular genres of performance showed are pure entertainment and the one in combination with sacred dance. The latter usually features Calonarang. This magical drama involves a combination of male and female players. In essence, this Calonarang drama highlights the endless fight between truth and untruth symbolizing by sanctified effigies or tapakan like Rangda and Barong. By and large,

it is also associated with ritual events at local temple.

In the following stage, when woman gets married she will enter the new organization, namely customary village. Having learned much about ritual works, it is now the time to practice them in wider social life. They should attend some socio-religious activities when the events engage the members of customary village. At this stage, household mother can remain to show her devotional service through the arts other than social works. Through the arts, they may join the drama or individual psalmodic singing or pasantian.

How is about their private life?

It is normal as others. They also have opportunity to build career in their profession. In modern life with heterogeneous professions as today, woman also works as men do. Traditions do not impede them to reach outstanding achievement in self-employee or office job. If they work at daytime, some social works will be held at the evening.

Tradition is not something obsolete. Even, it retains abundant inspirations to create something new and creative that is advantageous for modern life. However, traditions should also be reviewed and adjust to the current condition without leaving behind its core. Tradition does not hinder women to get their career achievement. (Coconut Chicken Curry) Ingredients * 1 Broiler or fryer Chicken with skin, approx. 450g. * 2 t Salt * 1 lg Onion, chopped finely * 3 Cloves garlic, chopped * 3 T Oil * 1 T Coriander * Pinch of chopped ginger * 1 t Ground lemon grass * 2 c Coconut milk * 1 Salam leaf

Directions Cut chicken into serving portions and rub with salt.

Fry onion and garlic in oil until lightly brown. Now, add coriander, ginger and lemon grass. Stir well for about 1 minute.

Add chicken, mixing thoroughly so that chicken absorbs the spices. Add coconut milk and salam leaf.

Prawn Crackers Ingredients * 250g prawn meat, washed and dried well * 250 to 300g tapioca flour * 1 tsp salt * l tsp pepper * Oil for deep frying

Directions Liquidise the prawn meat till smooth. Mix in the tapioca flour, salt and pepper. Mix well into a stiff dough.

Divide dough into three equal portions. Roll up each portion then place the rolls on a greased plate. Steam for 40 to 45 minutes over high flame.

Leave the rolls to cool, then wrap with a clean tea towel. Chill well in the refrigerator. Use a very sharp knife to slice thinly. Thoroughly dry the cut-out pieces in the sun.

Tirta Empul Temple or Tampak Siring Temple is a holy spring water temple located in Tampak Siring Village, Gianyar regency and it is about 39 km eastwards from Denpasar town. It is set in the dale and encircled by the hill. In the west side of this temple, there is an Indonesian President palace which has been found by the first president.

The name of Tirta Empul is loaded in a inscription which is kept at Sakenan Temple, Manukaya village, Sub district of Tampak Siring, about 3 km from Tirta Empul Temple. In this inscription, the Tirta Empul is named by the Tirta Ri Air Hampul and then the name has changed into Tirta Hampul and finally become the Tirta Empul. Tirta Ri air hampul is meaning the water emerge or the holy pool (Petirthan) which is the water emerge from the land.

The wellspring emerges from the land is believed that it is the infinite creation. According to the history, that, that this water source is arranged and sanctified by king Indrajayasinghawarmadewa in the year 882 Saka (960 M).

BUSINESS IMF warns on Eastern Europe budgets Reuters PRAGUE – Growth in Eastern Europe should accelerate only slightly this year as domestic demand recovers, but trouble in the euro zone periphery, wide budget deficits and inflation pressures still pose risks, the IMF said on Thursday.

In its regional economic outlook for Europe, the International Monetary Fund said it saw the region expanding 4.3 percent in 2011 and 2012, from 4.2 percent in 2010.

But it added that a high level of non-performing loans continued to weigh on banking sectors and high commodity prices could spur inflation.

It saw full-year inflation of 7.3 percent in 2011, slowing to 6.2 percent next year, and urged the region’s central banks to remain vigilant.

“Monetary policymakers will need to stay on high alert,” the Fund said. “Even countries with well-anchored inflation expectations may find it hard to avoid second-round effects if first-round effects are large or persistent, as global commodity prices rise disproportionately over the medium term.”

The IMF said strong economic ties to the euro zone exposed it to risks of the potentially escalating debt crisis in the single currency area’s weaker members, as western banks could cut their lending expo-

sure to emerging Europe if they were to take a significant hit.

It said that although the region had so far been shielded from contagion, authorities should tackle wide fiscal gaps.

“Consolidation needs to rebuild fiscal buffers. This will improve key fiscal indicators and thus diminish the risk of financial tensions in the euro area spilling eastward,” it said.

“It will also help contain inflationary pressures and support the monetary tightening that is already underway in several countries.”

Fiscal deficits in the region — where nine countries have active or precautionary deals with the IMF — should decline from 4.5 percent of gross domestic product in 2010 to 2.5 percent in 2011 and 2012, mainly due to Russia, the Fund said.

But it said public debt as a percentage of GDP would grow in two thirds of the countries and high fiscal deficits showed vulnerabilities in Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania. It also said the region’s fiscal position no longer compared favorably with emerging markets in

Asia and Latin America.

It remained optimistic on the recovery, predicting the former Soviet CIS countries would lead the region’s recovery with growth of 4.5 percent or higher this year.

It expects Belarus to lead the region with 6.8 percent growth in 2011. Russia was seen growing 4.8 percent this year, slightly faster than its southern peer Turkey at 4.6 percent.

Among the European Union’s newest members, Poland was seen flat at 3.8 percent this year before slowing slightly in 2012. Hungary was seen growing 2.8 percent each year, but Romania was expected to accelerate its pace to 4.4 percent next year.

“Domestic demand will become the main pillar of growth as it catches up to recover in those countries where it had languished,” the Fund said. It added bank lending still lagged.

“The worst of the credit crunch is over, but real credit still contracts in just under half of the region’s economies.”

Value of pirated software nearly $59 billion: study Agence France-Presse

WASHINGTON – The commercial value of pirated software increased 14 percent last year to nearly $59 billion, with emerging economies accounting for over half the total, according to a study published Thursday.

Businesses and consumers around the world bought $95 billion worth of legal personal computer (PC) software in 2010, according to the Business Software Alliance (BSA), but they installed another $58.8 billion in pirated software.

“This means that for every dollar spent on legitimate software in 2010, an additional 63 cents worth of unlicensed software also made its way into the market,” the BSA said.

At $31.9 billion, emerging economies accounted for over half the commercial value of pirated software last year, the BSA said in its eighth Global Software Piracy Study.

While PC shipments to emerging

economies accounted for half the world’s total last year, the value of paid software licenses in those economies accounted for less than 20 percent of the world total, the study said.

While the value of pirated software rose, the global piracy rate for PC software dropped by a single percentage point in 2010 to 42 percent, the study found.

Central and Eastern Europe and Latin America had the world’s highest piracy rate, with 64 percent of PC software pirated, while North America had the lowest, with 21 percent, the study found.

Software piracy was also found to be rampant in the Asia-Pacific region, with a piracy rate of 60 percent, followed by The Middle East with 58 percent and Western Europe with 33 percent.

And while the United States was tied with Japan for the lowest piracy rate, at 20 percent, it ranked at the top in terms of the commercial value of pirated PC software, estimated at

$9.5 billion dollars.

It was followed by China, with $7.8 billion, and Russia, with $2.8 billion.

The study was carried out with technology research firm IDC and covered 116 countries and regions.

The piracy rate dropped last year in 51 of the 116 areas studied and went up in 15, the BSA said.

It said the most common form of software piracy was to buy a single copy of software and install it on multiple computers, a practice which 51 percent of PC users surveyed in emerging markets mistakenly believe is legal.

“There’s an awareness gap where many people don’t even understand that they’re stealing software,” BSA president Matt Reid said.

“Governments need to be investing in educating the public about the value of intellectual property. They also need to make sure that the right laws are in place, and then they need to get out and enforce those laws.”

Nissan posts $380 million quarterly profit Associated Press Writer

TOKYO – Nissan rounded out a record year for car sales by returning to profit in the fourth quarter but Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn acknowledged serious challenges from Japan’s natural disasters.

The good news Thursday was clouded by uncertainties due to the damage from Japan’s earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crises that have disrupted production for Nissan and other Japanese automakers.

Nissan Motor Co., allied with Renault SA of France, reported a 30.77 billion yen ($380 million) profit for January-March, a turnaround from a 11.6 billion yen loss a year earlier. Quarterly sales jumped 10 percent to 2.35 trillion yen ($29 billion) Ghosn said production at Nissan plants worldwide will be back at pre-disaster levels by October, after which the company will make up for lost production.

He did not give an earnings forecast for the current fiscal year through March 2012, but promised projections would be ready by a shareholders’ meeting in June.

Ghosn said Japan’s second biggest automaker was working on restoring full production. The magnitude-9.0 earthquake and tsunami on March 11 destroyed key auto parts makers in northeastern Japan and killed more than 25,000 people.

On Wednesday, Toyota Motor Corp. said fixing its production problems was moving faster than initially expected, although it did not give a date for a full recovery.

“Nissan is once again proving its resilience in the face of adversity,” Ghosn said.

He acknowledged overseas rivals were likely to snatch market share away while Nissan struggles to fix production.

But momentum was in Nissan’s favor, given the sales achievements and market gains for the year just ended, he said.

For the fiscal year through March 2011, profit at Nissan, which makes the Leaf electric vehicle and the March subcompact, totaled 319.2 billion yen, more than seven times what it earned the previous year when Nissan was still recovering from the global financial crisis.

Annual sales jumped nearly 17 percent to 8.77 trillion yen ($108 billion) Nissan sold 4.185 million vehicles for the fiscal year, up 19.1 percent from 3.515 million the previous year. The global auto industry had grown a smaller 12.6 percent during that period.

Nissan’s sales in China, its largest single market worldwide, reached a record 1.02 million vehicles for the fiscal year, up 35.5 percent. Although Nissan sold fewer vehicles in Japan year-on-year, sales were up in the U.S., Europe and South America, according to Nissan.

The automaker’s U.S. sales rose 12.2 percent from a year earlier in April, riding on the back of the popularity of the Altima sedan, in contrast to Toyota, whose reputation has been hurt by massive recalls.

Toyota’s U.S. April sales gained just 1 percent.

Toyota’s quarterly profit plunged by more than 75 percent, despite doubling its annual earnings. Honda Motor Co. reported a quarterly profit drop of 38 percent, and doesn’t expect to return to full production in Japan until the end of the year.

Ghosn said Nissan suffered from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, including the deaths of five employees, pausing at the start of the news conference to ask that all deaths from the disaster be remembered.

But Nissan was showing it can bounce back, he told reporters at Yokohama headquarters.

The company is preparing for the risk of further electricity shortages in Japan, he said.

The tsunami sent one nuclear plant to the brink of a meltdown, and safety concerns have prompted the government to ask that another nuclear plant be shut down, possibly creating severe power shortages, especially in summer months when demand shoots up.

Nissan will conserve energy and is considering adding nighttime production and in-house generation, said Ghosn.

Nissan is also addressing fears about radiation contamination. In March, Nissan began testing radiation levels of its products before shipping and confirming their safety.

“Our recovery is going smoothly and robustly,” Ghosn said. “Fiscal year 2010 was a record year for Nissan in terms of sales and growth.”

Nissan shares rose 1.4 percent to 795 yen in Tokyo trading, shortly before earnings were announced.

NEW YORK – Will Smith’s tricked-out trailer was sent packing Wednesday after complaints from residents in the neighborhood where his new film is being shot.

The location shoot for “Men in Black III” has clogged the narrow streets of Manhattan’s Soho district for several days. But among the two dozen trucks and trailers deployed there, the most prominent was the luxury apartmenton-wheels occupied by Smith.

The double-decker digs were larger than many Manhattan residences and had locals up in arms about its size, noise and fumes. “I love Will Smith, but this is about survival,” said Anessa Rahman, co-owner of an antiques store located a few steps from the curbside spot where the actor’s trailer had been parked.

The trailer, along with the rest of the crowded Hollywood convoy, was putting a dent

in her business, she said. Wednesday afternoon, the megatrailer was removed by Columbia Pictures.

“This trailer has been used many times in this city by different studios on various movies over the years, and while its use has never been an issue before, we regret any inconvenience it may have caused,” Columbia Pictures spokesman Steve Elzer said.

Rahman said she was grateful to see the trailer pulled away. But Shoja Azari wasn’t so easily placated. Azari, an independent filmmaker who lives and works in the thick of the “Men in Black” shooting site, called the movie unit “rowdy.”

“They treat the whole neighborhood like it’s a studio, like it’s their backyard,” he said. “It’s crazy.” The film, the third installment in the sci-fi comedy series about agents who monitor alien activity, is scheduled to continue shooting in the area through Friday. No word on where Smith will be cooling his heels now between scenes.

LOS ANGELES – Hugh Grant has been weighing a big move: replacing the fired Charlie Sheen on CBS’ “Two and a Half Men.” A person familiar with the situation said Wednesday the British film actor was in negotiations to join the sitcom as its new leading man. The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because producer Warner Bros. and CBS hadn’t authorized public comment, said the talks had stalled without resolution.

But it was unclear whether Grant’s hiring was a closed issue, the person said. Reports that Grant had been offered $1 million-plus an episode were inaccurate, the person said, adding any Sheen replacement would be paid less than that. Sheen was among TV’s highest-paid actors at a reported $1.8 million an episode.

Grant’s publicist did not immediately return a call for comment. The actor, who became a star in romantic comedies including “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Notting Hill,” hasn’t appeared in a box-office hit for several years.

Warner, CBS and executive producer Chuck Lorre are attempting to find a new star and revamped format that would keep TV’s top-rated and highly lucrative sitcom afloat without Sheen. With CBS set to unveil its fall schedule for advertisers in New York next Wednesday, the pressure is on to decide the show’s future.

Speculation has swirled about who might join Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones in the cast.

Some actors seen as potential candidates, including John Stamos and Rob Lowe, have indicated their interests are elsewhere.

SEATTLE – Nick Risinger has always gazed up at the sky. But last year the amateur astronomer and photographer quit his day job as a Seattle marketing director and lugged six synchronized cameras about 60,000 miles to capture an image of the entire night sky.

Risinger, 28, set up his rack of cameras in high-elevation locales in the Western U.S. and South Africa, timing photo shoots around new moons when nights were long and dark. He programmed his six cameras to track the stars as they moved across the sky and simultaneously snapped thousands of photos.

He then stitched 37,440 exposures together into a spectacular, panoramic survey sky that he posted online two weeks ago. The photo reveals a 360-degree view of the Milky Way, planets and stars in their

true natural colors. Viewers can zoom in on portions of the 5,000megapixel image to find Orion or the Large Magellanic Cloud.

“I wanted to share what I thought was possible,” said Risinger, a firsttime astrophotographer. “We don’t see it like this. This is much brighter. On a good night in Seattle, you’ll see 20 or 30 stars. This, in its full size, you’ll see 20 to 30 million. Everything is amplified.”

Other sky surveys have preceded this one, including the Digitized Sky Survey and Google Sky. Many serve

scientific purposes and were shot in red and blue to measure the temperature of stars, Risinger said. He shot in a third color, green, to give the photo added depth and richness, he said.

“What a labor of love it is!” said Andrew Fraknoi, senior educator at the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. “Professional astronomers are now doing much deeper surveys of small regions of the sky, using big telescopes. But every once in a while it’s nice to step back and have such a beautiful photographic record of the whole sky.”

“This is not a scientifically useful image. This is for educational and artistic appreciation,” Risinger said, adding that he didn’t want to make money off it. “It is for educational purposes. I want to develop some tools for the classroom.”

US researchers identify first human lung stem cell Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – US researchers said Wednesday they have identified for the first time human lung stem cells that are self-renewing and could offer important clues for treating chronic lung diseases. Previous studies have shown researchers were able to create lung cells using human embryonic stem cells, but this lung stem cell was isolated using surgical samples of adult human lung tissue.

“This research describes, for the first time, a true human lung stem cell,” said Piero Anversa, director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and co-author of the study in the New England Journal of Medicine. “The discovery of this stem cell has the potential to offer those who suffer from chronic lung diseases a totally novel treatment option by regenerating or repairing damaged areas of the lung.”

The finding qualifies as a true

stem cell because it renews itself; can form different types of lung cells like bronchioles, alveoli and pulmonary vessel cells; and when injected into a mouse it could be isolated and removed and used to treat another mouse with the same results, the study said.

“These are the critical first steps in developing clinical treatments for those with lung disease for which no therapies exist,” said coauthor Joseph Loscalzo, chair of the BWH department of medicine.

“Further research is needed, but we are excited about the impact this discovery could have on our ability to regenerate or recreate new lung tissues to replace damaged areas of the lungs.”

Stem cell therapy on lung diseases has long been elusive because the lung is a highly complex organ with a variety of cell types that can renew at different rates, experts say.

Lung disease is the third leading killer in the United States after heart disease and cancer, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Researchers are reporting an alarming combination: bedbugs carrying a staph “superbug.” Canadian scientists detected drug-resistant staph bacteria in bedbugs from three hospital patients from a downtrodden Vancouver neighborhood. Bedbugs have not been known to spread disease, and there’s no clear evidence that the five bedbugs found on the patients or their belongings had spread the MRSA germ they were carrying or a second less dangerous drug-resistant bacteria.

However, bedbugs can cause itching that can lead to excessive scratching.

That can cause breaks in the skin that

make people more susceptible to these germs, noted Dr. Marc Romney, one of the study’s authors. The study is small and very preliminary. “But it’s an intriguing finding” that needs to be further researched, said Romney, medical microbiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.

The hospital is the closest one to the poor Downtown Eastside neighborhood near the city’s waterfront. Romney said he and his colleagues did the research after seeing a simultaneous boom in bedbugs and MRSA cases from the neighborhood.

Five bedbugs were crushed and analyzed. MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, was found on three bugs. MRSA is resistant to several

types of common antibiotics and can become deadly if it gets through the skin and into the bloodstream.

Two bugs had VRE, or vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, a less dangerous form of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Both germs are often seen in hospitals, and experts have been far more worried about nurses and other health care workers spreading the bacteria than insects.

It’s not clear if the bacteria originated with the bedbugs or if the bugs picked it up from already infected people, Romney added.

The study was released Wednesday by Emerging Infectious Diseases, a publication of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Magath to trade Bentley for vans if Wolfsburg survive Reuters

BERLIN - VfL Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath will swap his luxury Bentley convertible car for vans that will be given to charities if his team avoids relegation from the Bundesliga on Saturday, he said on Thursday.

Magath, who took over less than two months ago and will receive the 250,000 euro car as a bonus if his team survives the drop, said he would trade the car for six vans that will be used by local charities.

“This Bentley is a fantastic car, a dream to drive. But I want to make it clear that everyone must give all they have to stay up,” he told the club website (www.vflwolfsburg.de) pictured next to the black vehicle. “And if something good comes out of that then even better.”

Wolfsburg, in 15th place, will be saved with a win against Hoffenheim and even a draw could be enough for them to stay up if 16th-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach, also on 35 points, fail to beat Hamburg.

James delivers fatal blow as Heat finish off Celtics Reuters

MIAMI – An inspired LeBron James delivered the decisive blow with the last 10 points as the Miami Heat beat the Boston Celtics 97-87 on Wednesday to book their place in the Eastern Conference finals. The Celtics were expected to represent a major hurdle for the Heat but it was one they cleared with relative ease, winning the best-of-seven series 4-1.

Miami will now sit back and await the winner between Chicago and Atlanta, with the Bulls holding a 3-2 lead in the series.

In the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder pounded the Memphis Grizzlies 99-72 to seize control of their series 3-2.

After a tight opening quarter that ended 17-17, the Thunder ran away from Memphis leading 4635 at the half and building a 19point advantage after three quarters that the Grizzlies could not claw back. Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 19 points while Daequan Cook had 18 off the bench. Marc Gasol had 15 for the Grizzlies, who will host Game Six on Friday.

Facing elimination, the Celtics battled hard from the tip-off but in the final quarter they had no answer to the Heat’s ‘Big Three’ of James, Dwyane Wade and

Chris Bosh. After Bosh had tied the game at 87-87 with a thundering dunk, James put his stamp on the contest by dropping two threepointers from the arc.

The twice NBA MVP then added a dunk on a Boston turnover and a layup that touched off wild celebrations at the American Airlines Arena. “I want to give a lot of credit to the Boston Celtics, that coaching staff and those players, they make you fight for everything,” James told reporters.

“You can never take your foot off the gas, you can never take a second off against that team so I have a lot of respect for that team.”

Wade paced the Heat with a game-high 34 points and 10 rebounds. James had 33 points added Bosh with 14 as the Big Three once

again led the charge, collecting 81 of their team’s 97 points. The Celtics, who held a slim lead through much of the game, were led by 18 points from Ray Allen.

Kevin Garnett had 12 points in the opening quarter but was nearly invisible the rest of the game, finishing with 15.

Rajon Rondo, who dislocated his elbow in Game Three, was back on court with a heavily padded left arm but was limited to six points.

The win moved James, Wade and Bosh a big step closer to the NBA title they targeted when they came together in Miami.

“I got the utmost respect for that team,” James said. “They (Celtics) are the reason why all three of us came together, because of what they did, that blueprint they had in ’08 when they all came together.

“It’s a great team win, now we get ready for our next opponent.”

ROME – World number one and undisputed clay king Rafael Nadal survived a scare on Wednesday at the Rome Masters as he overcame a sloppy start to beat Italian qualifier Paolo Lorenzi 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 6-0. But there were no such difficulties for man of the moment Novak Djokovic who took his winning streak this year to 33 matches with an embarrassingly onesided 6-0, 6-3 destruction of Pole Lukasz Kubot.

World number three Roger Federer was also largely untroubled as he saw off Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 62. Following his defeat to Djokovic in the Madrid final last week, the 24-year-old Nadal came close to losing a second successive match on clay for the first time in his career before eventually romping home in the deciding set.

“It’s difficult for me to talk about the match today,” admitted Nadal. “I played very badly, that’s what I can say. “I had tough moments in the match where I felt slow, I wasn’t hitting the ball very deep, it was very short all the time.

“He played his match with

good serve and volleying, good movement. I played badly but the positive thing is that tomorrow I will play better because it’s not possible to play worse.”

Everything seemed to be going to plan for Nadal when he broke the world number 148 in the sixth game of the opening set but four forehand errors saw him give up a break-back to love.

The first set went to a tie break where Nadal netted a forehand to give Lorenzi a set-point, which he converted when the Spaniard missed with a wild smash.

Nadal was struggling again in the second set when trailing 4-3 but he stepped on the accelerator and reeled off nine games in a row. Djokovic’s victory edged him closer to American John McEnroe’s 27-year-old record of a 42-match winning start to a season.

Having played, and won, in the previous two weeks in Belgrade and Madrid, Djokovic said he was happy to have got through a match without expending too much energy. “I played quite well, well enough to win but I was playing an opponent who made a lot of mistakes, especially in the first set,” he said.

LOS ANGELES – Three-time champion Levi Leipheimer of the United States will lead a field of more than 140 riders from 18 teams in the sixth Tour of California cycling stage race that begins Sunday.

Leipheimer won the eight-day trek over nearly 1300km from 2007 through 2009 before surrendering the crown last year to Australian Michael Rogers, who will not defend his title because of a virus that reduced his training time.

The preliminary competitors list released Wednesday by organizer AEG Sports features top riders Norway’s Thor Hushovd of GarminCervelo, Australian Michael Matthews, Spaniard Oscar Freire and Dutchman Lars Boom of Rabobank and Aussie Matthew Goss of HTCHighroad. Leipheimer will ride for Team RadioShack while fellow US stars David Zabriskie and Christian Vandevelde compete for GarminCervelo and Americans George Hinicapie and 20-year-old Taylor Phinney race for BMC Racing.

Bautista: Good season still possible ALVARO Bautista is still confident Suzuki can have a strong season despite the start of his year being disrupted by a broken leg. The Spaniard is the only rider in Suzuki’s scaled-back MotoGP squad in 2011, but had to miss the Qatar and Spanish Grands Prix after getting injured in a Losail practice crash.

He made a remarkable return at Estoril just six weeks after breaking his femur, and had the pace to get in the top 10 had he not been forced off the road avoiding Karel Abraham’s crash.

Bautista said that with his fitness rapidly improving and Suzuki making good progress in testing at Estoril, the team could still feel up-

beat about the rest of its campaign, starting at Le Mans this weekend.

“My target is to get to the finish line this year - because I didn’t manage that in 2010 - and then build on things for the remainder of the season,” he said. “There are still plenty of races left so we have plenty of time to show what we can do.

“The few laps that I did in the test were good because they showed that the new chassis is an improvement, so we will use that in France and hopefully it will help us to be more competitive.”

Last year Bautista had to sit out the Le Mans race after a practice crash exacerbated shoulder injuries

he had already sustained in a Motocross incident. He suggested that despite his broken leg still healing, he would actually be in better shape for this year’s French GP than he was 12 months ago.

“I have been working hard since the Portuguese Grand Prix and test to improve my fitness and get ready for Le Mans and the rest of the season,” he said. “It was great to be back on the bike at Estoril, but it showed me that I still have some work to do to be up to race fitness.

“I plan to go to Le Mans in a better condition than I went to Estoril and in a much better condition than when I arrived in France last year!”

He reported a front end that was more sensitive to set-up changes and smoother power delivery from the engine, and believes that both factors will make the Italian squad more competitive at Le Mans.

“We’re coming off a test that confirmed we’ve started to go in the right direction and, although we’re still in the first phase, we hope we can find a good setup for Le Mans so that we can be faster in qualifying,” he said.

“We’re all working hard, and we’re making progress, but we still have to keep improving.”

Ducati team manager Vittoriano Guareschi does not quite share Rossi’s confidence, and believes that only a weekend of dry running can give the squad the track time it needs to maximise its latest upgrades.

“Both Nicky [Hayden] and Valentino were pleased with the work we did during the post-race test at Estoril, and now we will do everything we can to adapt the GP11 to a circuit that’s very different to Portugal.

“We hope for a sunny weekend, since every hour of track time in ‘normal’ conditions is very important for us, because of the work we’re doing.”
