LOS ANGELES - The Grammy awards are shaping up to be the ultimate showdown between pop’s two biggest female stars as Beyonce and Adele go head-to-head for song, record and album of the year on Sunday.

Despite 62 total Grammy nominations and 20 awards, Beyonce, 35, has never won the coveted album of the year, despite topping the charts with all six of her studio records.

With nine nominations, many fans are hoping Beyonce will overcome her Grammys’ curse with “Lemonade,” the personally and politically charged album many believe to be about the artist’s troubled marriage to

rapper Jay Z, layered with themes of black and female empowerment.

Standing in her way, however, is Britain’s Adele, 28, who swept the Grammys in 2012 with six wins for “21.” She returns with five nominations this year for “25,” a collection of personal coming-of-age songs including the power ballad “Hello.”

The televised Grammy awards will honor winners in more than 80 categories, voted for by members of the music industry.

Victim of Kintamani avalanche rises

Hundreds of Songan residents evacuated

BANGLI - Victim of avalanche in Kintamani increases. A resident of Subaya village, Ni Siman, died as buried by avalanche and rocks. Previously, the avalanche at Songan, Awan and Sukawana village, Kintamani claimed 12 fatalities. Therefore, the avalanche in Kintamani has totally killed 13 people.

The avalanche disaster was followed by flash floods at Anta Pura hamlet, Tejakula, Tejakula. It claimed the life of Cening Siman, 70, from Subaya hamlet, Subaya, Kintamani. On Saturday night (Feb. 11) around 24:00, the victim who lives alone was killed after her house was buried by avalanche.

Aside from claiming casualty, the disaster also eroded the roads at the village. It happened right beneath the victim’s house, where the road is covered up by avalanche materials so that it hampers the access of motorcycles.

As information compiled in the field on Saturday (Feb. 11), previously heavy rain with high intensity stroke Tejakula village and its surroundings. Before the incident, the victim was resting alone at her house. Her simple house located under the hill was built on the land borrowed from her neighbor. At

midnight, a sudden flash of lightning occurred right above the hill.

It was followed by avalanche from hilltop. Soil and rock got eroded and precisely afflicted to victim’s house. As a result, the victim’s house was buried to devastate.

Unluckily, the victim buried to die and her body was crushed by boulder.

Local residents along village officials of Tejakula just managed to evacuate the victim’s body around 07:00. Her body could be removed from the heap of soil and boulder after excavated by residents using a hoe and makeshift tools. Once evacuated, her body was bathed.

Headman of Tejakula, I Ketut Suardana, said that the victim has long lived at Anta Pura hamlet while working on the garden belongs to a resident of Tejakula. To finance her life, the victim sells crops such as banana leaves and

firewood, or bananas to Tejakula Market. Although she has long lived at Anta Pura hamlet, her residential status remains to be listed as a resident of Subaya hamlet, Subaya, Kintamani.

Residents evacuate In the meantime, hundreds of residents of Bantas hamlet, Songan, Kintamani, who survived from the avalanche disaster on Friday morning (Feb. 10) evacuated to refugee camps set up near the customary village cemetery.

Make travelers feel ‘different’ when arriving in Bali

TABANAN - Hundreds of Indonesian kris daggers will be displayed in cultural exhibition and archipelagic kris exchange for five days at Anom Palace, Tabanan, on Friday (Feb. 10). Some kris daggers are brought in from Bali, Lombok, Madura, Malang, Surabaya and Central Java.

Chief of the Tabanan Cultural Conservation Forum, Anak Agung Ngurah Panji Astika from Anom Palace, said on Wednesday (Feb. 8) that the archipelagic kris exhibition held for the first time takes the theme “Petitenget Tumpek Landep.” It is meant to preserve one of the valuable cultural heritages of the nation.

He explained that so far the kris dagger in Indonesia has been widely associated with mystical object, shamanism and occultism. As a result, younger generation is ashamed and afraid to know further about the kris matters. According to him, in the past kris dagger was a mandatory accessory for men to show off their status and prestige. “Kris dagger is a priceless hereditary possession,” said Ngurah Panji.

Besides, kris dagger is a hallmark of Indonesia because this cultural product could not be found and imitated by the other nations in the world. “Indonesian people have known metallurgic technique since thousands of years ago. Then,

it was used to make kris dagger wrapped in a high taste inherent in every region of Indonesia,” he explained.

Actually, Ngurah Panji said that kris dagger is a leading edge technology wrapped in the richness of Indonesian culture, so that it could become one of the very prideful characteristics of the nation.

“We’d just like to point out that this exhibition is to reiterate to the public especially younger generation to love the native culture to Indonesia. Do not let the valuable cultural products be abandoned. We even adopt a foreign culture that is not necessarily in line with the personality of Indonesian people,” he said.

In the kris dagger exhibition, the committee will prepare 28 booths where each booth will display about 30 pieces of kris dagger.

They will include kris dagger originating in ancient times as well as those having high history and newly made.

“Local participants getting involved in the exhibition will come from Denpasar, Karangasem and Klungkung. In the meantime, Tabanan will also involve two kris makers,” he added.

Aside from kris dagger, the committee will also showcase a variety of gemstones, hold drawing contest, and close the event with cultural performance by the Saput Poleng art troupe. (kmb)

Director General of Highways, Buleleng regional disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) and citizens on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11) managed to clear the path of avalanche materials.

Nevertheless, the traffic passing the extreme point remains to be closed by police. It is based on consideration that rain intensity stays quite high and it can potentially result in mudslides aftershocks.

Chief of Buleleng Police, Made Sukawijaya, revealed on Saturday (Feb. 11) that even though the

handling of the avalanche had accomplished, the soil conditions at the road section is still very unstable, so that it has the potential to avalanche during the rains.

For safety, traffic closures are still enforced. It will continue to apply if the weather conditions have not improved.

“Since the rainfall is high, the road section remains to be closed. Later on, it will be opened if the weather has improved. This is for the sake of safety,” he said on the sidelines of reviewing the avalanche.

The closure is also inseparable from the condition of the collapse of road at some points. To follow up the condition, traffic from Denpasar to Singaraja is diverted to Pupuan, Tabanan and vice versa. “Later, when the condition is back to normal, the road section will be opened again,” he said. NEGARA - Tidal waves in the southern coast of Bali returned to flood the neighborhoods of Pebuahan hamlet, Banyubiru, Negara, on Friday night (Feb. 10).

Residents were forced to evacuate to a safer place and save their valuables in the house. No fatalities were reported in the disaster.

Until Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11), a number of residents assisted by preparedness disaster cadres (Tagana), regional disaster mitigation agency (BPBD), volunteers and community protection evacuated furniture and remaining building materials. From the data collection, at least 42 buildings of residents are destroyed by the brunt of seawater.

Chief Executive of BPBD Jembrana, I Ketut Eko Susila, said that other than helping evacuate residents’ furniture and building materials, his agency also set up tents to temporarily accommodate residents whose houses were destroyed. From monitoring, the most severely affected is in the eastern part of the coast.

Based on data collection, a total of 42 residents’ home were affected with the loss estimated to reach hundreds of millions of rupiahs. Of the dozens of damaged buildings, four of which are stall buildings. Samsudin, a local resident, revealed on Friday evening that tidal waves flooded the asphalt road.

Moreover, the water flooded the homes on the northern side of the road. On that account, residents attempted to install a barrier by installing simple wave barriers in the form of piles of sand sacks and unused tires. “Right now, we are still saving the house content. The tide is estimated to last up to next two days,” he explained.

In the meantime, field observation last Saturday indicated that tidal waves did not only occur in the buildings near the coast, but also at the homes of residents in the northern side of the road. Sea sand blanketed the asphalt road located far away from the beach. Similarly, the coastal road in the western side also nearly collapses due to the tidal waves. (kmb26)

Residents of Candikuning difficult to get water after disaster

TABANAN - The break of pipelines owned by Municipal Waterworks (PDAM) due to floods and avalanche on Thursday (Feb. 9) caused the residents of Candikuning village, Baturiti, to face clean water shortages. To meet water needs, residents are forced to take water from the lake or the Eka Karya Botanical Garden.

A resident of Candikuning hamlet II, Candikuning, Sriani, said on Saturday (Feb. 11) the water did not run. As a result, she was forced not to shower on Friday and took advantage of water from Lake Beratan and the Eka Karya Botanical Garden, Bedugul, for cooking.

“For cooking, I use the water taken from the botanical garden. At the location, the water is still running and sources from springs. Although it is not very clean, at least it can be used to cook,” said Sriani who opens satay food stall near the botanical garden.

She explained that residents of Can-

dikuning II hamlet meet their water needs by taking from the lake when the water of municipal waterworks does not run. Even though it is not very clean, it can still be used for toilet needs. “There are also residents accommodating rainwater,” she said.

Aside from the outage of water services, the electricity also went out on Saturday morning (Feb. 11). Sriani hoped the water pipeline problem could be fixed immediately so that the water can run normally and so can the electricity.

KAIRANA - More than 13 million Indians voted in the first stage of state assembly elections on Saturday, the biggest electoral test for Prime Minister Narendra Modi since coming to power in 2014.

The world’s biggest election this year began in Uttar Pradesh, the first of six stages that will elect an assembly to govern the impoverished state of nearly 220 million people.

Modi’s nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept to victory in Uttar Pradesh three years ago, and the election in the state that follows the shore of the river Ganges will set the tone for the

2019 national elections.

More broadly, voters will deliver a mid-term verdict on Modi and his nationalist party after his decision to withdraw 86 percent of the cash in circulation.

The banknote ban was launched

by Modi three months ago to purge the economy of untaxed income and the proceeds of crime and corruption, and has disrupted daily life and commerce, and caused the economy to slow.

On the campaign trail, Modi has said he had the interests of the poor at heart in making the move - his biggest gamble yet.

“The results will tell us whether Modi continues to enjoy unques-

tioned support or if it has started to erode,” said R.K. Mishra, an independent political analyst based in the state capital, Lucknow.

Amid tight security, voting was conducted in 73 constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh, where violence has erupted frequently over the last few years. Fighting between Hindus and Muslims killed about 65 people in 2013.

BUSINESS Greece says bailout deal close, Juncker says it’s on shaky ground

ATHENS/BERLIN - Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras warned international lenders on Saturday not to heap new burdens on his country but said he believed the drawn-out bailout review with them would end well. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, however, said the deal was “on shaky ground” because the International Monetary Fund had not decided what role it would play.

The comments came a day after Greece and its international lenders made clear progress towards bridging differences over Athens’s fiscal path in coming years, moving closer to a deal that would secure new loan disbursements and save the country from default. “(The review) will be completed, and it will be completed positively, without concessions in matters of principle,” Tsipras told a meeting of his leftist Syriza party on Saturday. But further cutbacks, particularly to pensions which have already gone through 11 cuts since the start of the Greek debt crisis in 2010, would be hard to swallow.

“We are ready to discuss anything within the framework of the (bailout) agreement and within reason, but not things beyond the framework of the agreement and beyond reason,” Tsipras said. “We will not discuss demands which are not backed up by logic and by numbers.”

He warned all sides to “be more careful towards a country that has been pillaged and people who have made, and are continuing to make, so many sacrifices in the name of Europe”.

Accepting more reforms is fraught with difficulties in Greece which has only just emerged from a multi-year recession

brought on by the debt crisis and the austerity demanded in exchange for the bailouts.

Greece’s unemployment rate is 23 percent and while year-on-year GDP growth was 1.8 percent in last year’s third quarter, the economy contracted at a rate of more than 10 percent earlier in the decade.

IMF ROLE Juncker, in an interview to be aired on German radio Deutschlandfunk on Sunday, praised Greece for some of the steps it has already taken. “No country has managed bigger steps to improve competitiveness than Greece,” he said.

But the Commission president also said that the bailout programme, Greece’s third, could fall apart as the IMF has not yet made up its mind whether to take part in providing more aid. “Yes, it is on a shaky ground in the sense that we don’t see how the International Monetary Fund could manage this problem,” he said.

The IMF has sat on the sidelines of the latest bailout programme and says it cannot participate in a programme which could keep Greece in a never-ending cycle of indebtedness that could push national borrowing to 275 percent of economic output by 2060.

The European and IMF lenders want Greece to make 1.8 billion euros - or 1 percent of GDP - worth of new reforms by 2018 and another 1.8 billion euros after then and the measures would be focused on broadening the tax base and on pension cutbacks.

NEW YORK - Wall Street’s main stock indexes rose to fresh alltime closing highs on Friday as a spike in oil prices supported energy shares and investors renewed their optimism about President Donald Trump’s economic agenda.

The S&P 500 tallied its fourth straight session of gains, a day after Trump vowed a major tax announcement in the next few weeks.

The benchmark S&P 500 has surged 8.3 percent since Trump’s Nov. 8 election, fueled by expectations he will lower corporate taxes, reduce regulations and increase infrastructure spending. The rally had stalled amid concerns over Trump’s protectionist stance and lack of clarity on policy reforms.

“Investors were worried that the administration may have gotten

off track and was pursuing other items,” said Kim Forrest, senior equity research analyst at Fort Pitt Capital Group in Pittsburgh.

“Tax cuts have gotten put back on the front burner,” Forrest said, adding, “We are looking for gains in the economy at large from this, not just (earnings per share) gains in stocks.”

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 96.97 points, or 0.48 percent, to end at 20,269.37, the S&P 500 gained 8.23 points, or 0.36 percent, to 2,316.10 and the Nasdaq Composite added 18.95 points, or 0.33 percent, to 5,734.13.

The S&P and Dow closed at a record high for a second straight session, while the Nasdaq extended its streak of record closes to a fourth day.

Energy shares gained 0.8 per-

cent. Oil prices rose more than 1 percent after reports that OPEC members delivered more than 90 percent of the output cuts they pledged in a deal that took effect in January.

Energy could continue to be in focus next week, when a host of small-cap companies in energy are due to report results.

The S&P financial sector ended up 0.2 percent. The group initially moved higher after Daniel Tarullo, the top Federal Reserve official charged with financial regulation, said he would resign, creating further room for Trump to reshape the Fed’s policymaking staff.

The focus on Washington comes as large U.S. companies were set for their second straight quarter of profit increases after several periods of declines.(rtr)

To Maintain Peace, Residents Preserve Tradition of Burning “Memedi”

Bungaya customary village, Bebandem, Karangasem, is one of the old villages in Bali. Every customary and religious ritual at the village takes place uniquely. One of them can be seen in the implementation of usaba mumu or familiarly known as usaba memedi. It’s named as usaba memedi because the ritual is marked with the ‘burning’ of memedi (spirits). The procession is carried out amid the pounding sounds of kulkul (wooden split drum) throughout customary hamlet and clan temples at night. How does the implementation look like?

Usaba mumu is held once a year falling in January (Balinese seventh month). This year, peak of the implementation took place on Wednesday (Jan. 18). Fifteen days in advance, residents have looked for ritual paraphernalia ingredients such as young coconut leaf, fruit, palm leaf and others at local customary village. ‘’Usaba Mumu’’ di Desa Adat Bungaya Then, three days before the peak of procession, all the people create the figure of memedi made from various leaves, such as the leaf of aba, bamboo, eggplant and pulet.

The leaves are arranged in such a way to form humanoid figure coming with tribal marking by using lime betel.

“This paraphernalia is ritualized first in the morning at respective family temple. At night, it is taken out for the ritual procession,” said the apparatus of Bungaya customary village, I Gede Adi Krisna Widana, just before the peak of the ritual began.

At the peak of usaba mumu, thousands of families at Bungaya village have been busy with ritual preparations from the morning.

Krisna said that before sunrise, the whole customary village apparatus come out to village temple or Bale Agung temple to prepare all means of rituals such as pras daksina, bayuan and kelanan.

In the meantime, all people have prepared ritual paraphernalia known as penyagaan (guard) made from palm tree stem from the morning. It is made to resemble a human figure decorated with various means such as coconut leaf arrangement and wild cherry fruit. The penyagaan means that people must be able to control their passions as preparation to pay homage.

The guard figure is placed in front of their respective alley. It will be dismantled at midday, after going through particular ritual.

“According to local belief, all the guard figures can later be mounted again in paddy fields or anywhere in order to avoid any catastrophe,” said Krisna.

In the afternoon, the whole community, especially women, will say prayers at Pemuhunan Temple.

This temple is quite unique located under a sacred banyan tree without any shrines. Prior to the prayers,

thousands of women are sitting around a banyan tree along with their offerings before the worship around 22:00 On the other hand, men are preparing the memedi figure that will be burned at the location of guard figure in the morning.

After completing the ritual at the Pemuhunan Temple, then memedi figure is burned simultaneously marked with the sounds of kulkul at 15 customary hamlets and clan temples that keep pounding until

the procession is over. Burning the memedi figure has the meaning of burning all the natures of anger and negative traits in human beings, so that people can live harmonious and peaceful life.

The ashes are ritualized again after formed into human figure at the location of burning. When everything is over, the offerings prepared are immediately offered at the ash-made figure. “After the procession, it usually rains at the night symbolizing if the ritual has

run smoothly,” said Krisna.

Three days after this procession, the entire local residents say prayers at the village temple. This process is called ngelisin where all pilgrims invoke holy water.

After making introspection for three days, all the local people go through life with a new atmosphere.

Basically, this procession symbolizes the journey of self-control and restores the butha kala to maintain the balance of macrocosm and microcosm. (kmb)

Story on a Water-Selling Grandma It is not difficult to reach this location.

Tirta Taman Mumbul Temple is situated around one kilometer from Sangeh tourist attraction. From Denpasar, we must turn right before Sangeh having been famous for its monkey forest. Within less than ten minutes, we will arrive at the destination.

This location looks to be halved by the highway. The temple with a small lake is located to the left of the road, while sacred shower for purificatory rite sits on the right way.

There are interesting stories about this location. It is much believed by local community, whether it is true or not, this is the story developing amid the community. It is said, the spring coming out at this place originates from a water jug belonging to a water-selling grandmother. It is not known for sure and untold who the grandmother is and where she comes from. Obviously she is a salesperson of water from one village to another. By and large, she brings a jug upheld on her head.

Once upon a time, she arrived at this lo-

cation. Due to being fatigue after selling for whole day, she then took a rest. Her water on sale remained. At this location, she saw a lot of plants were drought. Having a pity on them, she watered the plants with her water.

Before long, the water poured then became a fountain.

So far, many people have come and perform purificatory rite at this location. Other than for such ritual purpose, local communities also come to take water for drinking.

Water of this shower is very clear. People believe the water at this location no longer needs to be boiled, and can be immediately drunk. When taking a gallon, people will be charged donation as much as IDR 2,000.

Trump says he will bring down the price of wall on Mexico’s border

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump pushed back early on Saturday on assertions that the wall he wants built on the U.S. border with Mexico would cost more than anticipated and said he would reduce the price.

Trump made his comments in two Twitter posts but did not say how he would bring down the cost of the wall.

Reuters on Thursday published details of an internal report by the Department of Homeland Security that estimated the price of a wall along the entire border at $21.6 billion. During his presidential campaign Trump had cited a $12 billion figure.

Refugees get museum trip as WW2 bomb forces huge evacuation in Greece’s Thessaloniki

THESSALONIKI - A World War Two bomb forced a massive evacuation in Greece’s second-largest city on Sunday but also gave a group of stranded refugees a rare day-trip to the museum.

The bomb was deactivated by specialists by midday but was still considered dangerous as authorities prepared to move it from the site just to the west of central Thessaloniki.

Up to 72,000 residents living within a 2 km (1.2 miles) radius of the bomb site were asked to leave their homes for local gyms, stadiums and cafes in one of the country’s biggest peacetime evacuations.

The 250 kg (550 lb) bomb was discovered about 5 metres (16 feet) below ground during excavation works at a petrol station last week.

“Now begins the second phase of the operation to remove the bomb from the area,” Regional Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas said, after the deactivation. “The danger remains.

Citizens must stay outside the evacuation zone until the bomb removal process is completed.”

For one group of refugees and migrants this meant a museum trip.

The group, many of them Syrians fleeing the civil war there, live in a nearby former toilet paper factory.

They were taken to the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, a listed monument whose permanent exhibitions include masterpieces of ancient Greek art dating from prehistoric times to late antiquity.

About 450 people live in the Softex refugee camp in an industrial zone in the outskirts of the city, in conditions described as “prison-like” by Amnesty International.

They are among about 60,000 refugees and migrants stranded in makeshift and formal camps across Greece since Balkan countries closed their borders last March to those seeking passage to western and northern Europe.

Indonesians to vote in local polls with eye on presidency

JAKARTA - Tens of millions of Indonesians head to the polls on Wednesday in local elections across the Muslim-majority country, with bitter feuding over the powerful post of Jakarta governor stoking political and religious tensions.

Incumbent Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, Jakarta’s first ethnic Chinese and Christian leader, has angered

some Muslim voters for allegedly insulting the Koran. He has denied wrongdoing, but is on trial for blasphemy in a case that rights groups and his supporters view as politically motivated.

Purnama is backed by President Joko Widodo’s party and is running against Agus Yudhoyono, the son of former President Susilo Bambang

Yudhoyono, and ex-education minister Anies Baswedan. The two Muslim candidates appear to have won over much of the conservative Islamic vote and some Purnama supporters.

“In terms of performance, I support Ahok,” said Ferdi Ramadhan, 20, referring to Purnama’s nickname.

“However, there’s the consideration of religion. I’m a Muslim... so I think I will vote for Anies Baswedan,” he said, after participating in a skate-boarding contest park at a park in the capital. It was built under Purnama’s administration on the site of a former red-light district.

Purnama has been popular among the middle classes for cutting red tape in the trafficclogged city and pushing through infrastructure projects, such as constructing defences against sea water intrusion.

But the forced evictions of slum dwellers from their riverbank homes to ease chronic flooding in

the city have also angered many mainly Muslim residents.

Muslims make up around 85 percent of the city’s population, which also has sizeable Christian and other minorities.

The divisions have played out among communities, families and friends - much of it on social media and exacerbated by “fake news” stories - echoing the rifts seen in Britain over Brexit and the United States over the election of President Donald Trump.

“I personally am sick of arguing about these candidates and would like to just move on. It puts a lot of strain on friendships,” said Sari Ekaputri, a 38-year old marketing executive who lives in Jakarta.

Jakarta police will deploy 16,000 officers ahead of voting day as concerns remain about hardline Muslim groups trying to hold similar rallies to the mass protests seen late last year calling for the jailing of Purnama.

Police banned a rally that was being planned by Islamist groups on Feb. 11, citing security concerns.

Despite the blasphemy allegations, Purnama has rebounded in opinion polls to remain a frontrunner. Even if he is convicted, he is legally allowed to run the city as long as appeals are under way, according to analysts.

Jakarta’s poll is one of scores of regional elections due to be held in other provinces, cities, and districts throughout Indonesia. But nowhere are the stakes quite as high as in Jakarta.

Winning Jakarta can be a stepping stone to the presidency and Wednesday’s vote is widely being seen as a proxy ahead of the 2019 presidential, explaining how intense the campaigning has been.

“This election can determine the trajectory of future Indonesian politics...whether we will see an ugly future, where religion and ethnicity is further politicized for gains,” said Tobias Basuki, a political analyst at a Jakarta-based think tank. (rtr)

Candi Kuning Market TABANAN - The Candi Kuning Market, which locals refer to as Pasar Merta Sari Candi Kuning, or simply ‘Pasar Bedugul’, is one of two main markets in the Bedugul area. Candi Kuning Market mostly boasts local farm produce, such as flowers and a wide range of tropical fruits (mangosteen, bananas, tamarillos, tangerines and, most importantly, strawberries – the prize produce of Bedugul.

Being a market targeted at travellers, you’ll find souvenirs in the form of generic and kitsch arts and crafts at stalls further inside.

Nevertheless, it’s a great place to find a local market scene, with the rule of thumb being (as always): bargain hard! Even the locals do it. A large packet of strawberries - around half a kilo - starts from IDR 25,000 (around USD 1.80). For a simple and very local snack, try some crackers, boiled peanuts or steamed sweetcorn (around IDR 5,000 a cob) sold by peddlers at the roadside. Locals find it an obligatory stop for stocking up on snacks for their ride.

“It was brilliant, it was exciting. Tonight came down to the last event and I think everyone in the track and field world really enjoyed this,” Bolt, who was paid a seven-figure sum to run in Melbourne and was given a stake in the Series, told reporters on the track.

“I knew that this is what track and field needed.

“I’m just happy the event came together the way that it did. We know we have improvements to do ... We’re going to keep trying to improve it along the way.”

Slovenia’s Stuhec wins women’s downhill gold

ST MORITZ - Slovenia’s Ilka Stuhec blasted to victory in the women’s downhill at the Alpine Skiing world championships on Sunday as American Lindsey Vonn had to settle for third.

Stuhec, 26, claimed her first medal from a world championships or Olympics, with a faultless run down the icy course at speeds topping out at 125 km per hour.

Austria’s Stephanie Venier took the silver medal, 0.40 seconds slower, with 2010 Olympic downhill champion Vonn 0.45 seconds off the Slovenia’s pace.

Stuhec, whose ski technician is

her mother Darja, emulated the feat of compatriot and Olympic champion Tina Maze who won downhill gold at the last world championships in Beaver Creek.

“I felt pretty good coming into the finish, not perfect but good enough,” she said.

The 32-year-old Vonn, in the middle of another comeback after breaking her right arm last year, became the oldest woman to win a world championships medal, taking her haul to seven.

Vonn has had only five World Cup events back since the injury that left her without full use of her right

arm but still managed a 77th World Cup win at Garmisch last month.

“It feels really good,” she said. “I would have loved to ski a little bit faster but I fought really hard.

“It’s been a difficult season coming back from a broken arm and the hand has given me a lot of trouble... it is what it is.”

BARCELONA - Real Madrid returned to the top of La Liga after winning a testing game at Osasuna 3-1 on Saturday thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco and substitute Lucas Vazquez.

Osasuna striker Sergio Leon cancelled out Ronaldo’s 24th-minute opener after defender Tano had been carried off with a sickening double leg break while Real defender Danilo was forced off with an injury in the second half.

Isco restored Real’s lead in the 62nd minute and Zinedine Zidane’s side added a third through Vazquez with the last kick of the game.

Real goalkeeper Keylor Navas produced a string of quality saves to preserve their advantage before Vazquez sealed only a second league win for Real in seven visits to the perennial La Liga strugglers, who are bottom of the table on 10 points.

Real top the standings on 49 points, leap-frogging Barcelona on 48 after the champions thrashed Alaves 6-0 with the help of goals from their ‘MSN’ trident of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.

The victory, however, was overshadowed by a horrific ankle injury to right back Aleix Vidal, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Zidane’s side have two games in hand on Barca as they bid to win the title for the first time since 2012.

Real withstood early pressure from the hosts thanks to two smart saves from Navas and took the lead against the run of play when Ronaldo ran on to a threaded through ball from Karim Benzema and blasted it through the legs of Salvatore Sirigu.

Some visitors were impressed with the stadium’s spaceship-like design and lighting, but others criticized the 43-billion-ruble ($738 million) price tag. Candi Kuning serves as a great stopover for refreshments in between your tours of Bali’s central region, or en route to the main destinations in North Bali, such as Lovina Beach, via the central highlands. Trump says he will bring down the price of wall on Mexico’s border

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump pushed back early on Saturday on assertions that the wall he wants built on the U.S. border with Mexico would cost more than anticipated and said he would reduce the price.

Trump made his comments in two Twitter posts but did not say how he would bring down the cost of the wall.

Reuters on Thursday published details of an internal report by the Department of Homeland Security that estimated the price of a wall along the entire border at $21.6 billion. During his presidential campaign Trump had cited a $12 billion figure.

Refugees get museum trip as WW2 bomb forces huge evacuation in Greece’s Thessaloniki

THESSALONIKI - A World War Two bomb forced a massive evacuation in Greece’s second-largest city on Sunday but also gave a group of stranded refugees a rare day-trip to the museum.

The bomb was deactivated by specialists by midday but was still considered dangerous as authorities prepared to move it from the site just to the west of central Thessaloniki.

Up to 72,000 residents living within a 2 km (1.2 miles) radius of the bomb site were asked to leave their homes for local gyms, stadiums and cafes in one of the country’s biggest peacetime evacuations.

The 250 kg (550 lb) bomb was discovered about 5 metres (16 feet) below ground during excavation works at a petrol station last week.

“Now begins the second phase of the operation to remove the bomb from the area,” Regional Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas said, after the deactivation. “The danger remains.

Citizens must stay outside the evacuation zone until the bomb removal process is completed.”

For one group of refugees and migrants this meant a museum trip.

The group, many of them Syrians fleeing the civil war there, live in a nearby former toilet paper factory.

They were taken to the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, a listed monument whose permanent exhibitions include masterpieces of ancient Greek art dating from prehistoric times to late antiquity.

About 450 people live in the Softex refugee camp in an industrial zone in the outskirts of the city, in conditions described as “prison-like” by Amnesty International.

They are among about 60,000 refugees and migrants stranded in makeshift and formal camps across Greece since Balkan countries closed their borders last March to those seeking passage to western and northern Europe.

Greece’s migration ministry said Sunday’s trip was organised at the request of the refugees and Greek state TV said they would also visit Thessaloniki’s White Tower, a waterfront monument and one of Greece’s most recognisable buildings. (rtr)

Indonesians to vote in local polls with eye on presidency

JAKARTA - Tens of millions of Indonesians head to the polls on Wednesday in local elections across the Muslim-majority country, with bitter feuding over the powerful post of Jakarta governor stoking political and religious tensions.

Incumbent Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, Jakarta’s first ethnic Chinese and Christian leader, has angered

some Muslim voters for allegedly insulting the Koran. He has denied wrongdoing, but is on trial for blasphemy in a case that rights groups and his supporters view as politically motivated.

Purnama is backed by President Joko Widodo’s party and is running against Agus Yudhoyono, the son of former President Susilo Bambang

Yudhoyono, and ex-education minister Anies Baswedan. The two Muslim candidates appear to have won over much of the conservative Islamic vote and some Purnama supporters.

“In terms of performance, I support Ahok,” said Ferdi Ramadhan, 20, referring to Purnama’s nickname.

“However, there’s the consideration of religion. I’m a Muslim... so I think I will vote for Anies Baswedan,” he said, after participating in a skate-boarding contest park at a park in the capital. It was built under Purnama’s administration on the site of a former red-light district.

Purnama has been popular among the middle classes for cutting red tape in the trafficclogged city and pushing through infrastructure projects, such as constructing defences against sea water intrusion.

But the forced evictions of slum dwellers from their riverbank homes to ease chronic flooding in

the city have also angered many mainly Muslim residents.

Muslims make up around 85 percent of the city’s population, which also has sizeable Christian and other minorities.

The divisions have played out among communities, families and friends - much of it on social media and exacerbated by “fake news” stories - echoing the rifts seen in Britain over Brexit and the United States over the election of President Donald Trump.

“I personally am sick of arguing about these candidates and would like to just move on. It puts a lot of strain on friendships,” said Sari Ekaputri, a 38-year old marketing executive who lives in Jakarta.

Jakarta police will deploy 16,000 officers ahead of voting day as concerns remain about hardline Muslim groups trying to hold similar rallies to the mass protests seen late last year calling for the jailing of Purnama.

Police banned a rally that was being planned by Islamist groups on Feb. 11, citing security concerns.

Despite the blasphemy allegations, Purnama has rebounded in opinion polls to remain a frontrunner. Even if he is convicted, he is legally allowed to run the city as long as appeals are under way, according to analysts.

Jakarta’s poll is one of scores of regional elections due to be held in other provinces, cities, and districts throughout Indonesia. But nowhere are the stakes quite as high as in Jakarta.

Winning Jakarta can be a stepping stone to the presidency and Wednesday’s vote is widely being seen as a proxy ahead of the 2019 presidential, explaining how intense the campaigning has been.

“This election can determine the trajectory of future Indonesian politics...whether we will see an ugly future, where religion and ethnicity is further politicized for gains,” said Tobias Basuki, a political analyst at a Jakarta-based think tank. (rtr)

He never thought he would lose his beloved family members soon.

Sudaya said that although he and other residents currently still feel the trauma, some refugees in the camps are back to their home at Bantas hamlet, though only done briefly. “People are forced to go home for a while because they must still take care of their cattle at the location,” he said.

He is ready if there is a direction to move away forever from his home hamlet at Bantas. “If we are indeed prepared a relocation place I will be ready. When being told to move by my own, I do not want to,” said Jro Muada. (kmb38/kmb40)

BUSINESS Greece says bailout deal close, Juncker says it’s on shaky ground

ATHENS/BERLIN - Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras warned international lenders on Saturday not to heap new burdens on his country but said he believed the drawn-out bailout review with them would end well. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, however, said the deal was “on shaky ground” because the International Monetary Fund had not decided what role it would play.

The comments came a day after Greece and its international lenders made clear progress towards bridging differences over Athens’s fiscal path in coming years, moving closer to a deal that would secure new loan disbursements and save the country from default. “(The review) will be completed, and it will be completed positively, without concessions in matters of principle,” Tsipras told a meeting of his leftist Syriza party on Saturday. But further cutbacks, particularly to pensions which have already gone through 11 cuts since the start of the Greek debt crisis in 2010, would be hard to swallow.

“We are ready to discuss anything within the framework of the (bailout) agreement and within reason, but not things beyond the framework of the agreement and beyond reason,” Tsipras said. “We will not discuss demands which are not backed up by logic and by numbers.”

He warned all sides to “be more careful towards a country that has been pillaged and people who have made, and are continuing to make, so many sacrifices in the name of Europe”.

Accepting more reforms is fraught with difficulties in Greece which has only just emerged from a multi-year recession

brought on by the debt crisis and the austerity demanded in exchange for the bailouts.

Greece’s unemployment rate is 23 percent and while year-on-year GDP growth was 1.8 percent in last year’s third quarter, the economy contracted at a rate of more than 10 percent earlier in the decade.

IMF ROLE Juncker, in an interview to be aired on German radio Deutschlandfunk on Sunday, praised Greece for some of the steps it has already taken. “No country has managed bigger steps to improve competitiveness than Greece,” he said.

But the Commission president also said that the bailout programme, Greece’s third, could fall apart as the IMF has not yet made up its mind whether to take part in providing more aid. “Yes, it is on a shaky ground in the sense that we don’t see how the International Monetary Fund could manage this problem,” he said.

The IMF has sat on the sidelines of the latest bailout programme and says it cannot participate in a programme which could keep Greece in a never-ending cycle of indebtedness that could push national borrowing to 275 percent of economic output by 2060.

Reaching agreement would release another tranche of funds from its latest 86 billion euro bailout, and facilitate Greece making a major 7.2 billion euro debt repayment this summer.

The European and IMF lenders want Greece to make 1.8 billion euros - or 1 percent of GDP - worth of new reforms by 2018 and another 1.8 billion euros after then and the measures would be focused on broadening the tax base and on pension cutbacks.

NEW YORK - Wall Street’s main stock indexes rose to fresh alltime closing highs on Friday as a spike in oil prices supported energy shares and investors renewed their optimism about President Donald Trump’s economic agenda.

The S&P 500 tallied its fourth straight session of gains, a day after Trump vowed a major tax announcement in the next few weeks.

The benchmark S&P 500 has surged 8.3 percent since Trump’s Nov. 8 election, fueled by expectations he will lower corporate taxes, reduce regulations and increase infrastructure spending. The rally had stalled amid concerns over Trump’s protectionist stance and lack of clarity on policy reforms.

“Investors were worried that the administration may have gotten

off track and was pursuing other items,” said Kim Forrest, senior equity research analyst at Fort Pitt Capital Group in Pittsburgh.

“Tax cuts have gotten put back on the front burner,” Forrest said, adding, “We are looking for gains in the economy at large from this, not just (earnings per share) gains in stocks.”

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 96.97 points, or 0.48 percent, to end at 20,269.37, the S&P 500 gained 8.23 points, or 0.36 percent, to 2,316.10 and the Nasdaq Composite added 18.95 points, or 0.33 percent, to 5,734.13.

The S&P and Dow closed at a record high for a second straight session, while the Nasdaq extended its streak of record closes to a fourth day.

Energy shares gained 0.8 per-

cent. Oil prices rose more than 1 percent after reports that OPEC members delivered more than 90 percent of the output cuts they pledged in a deal that took effect in January.

Energy could continue to be in focus next week, when a host of small-cap companies in energy are due to report results.

The S&P financial sector ended up 0.2 percent. The group initially moved higher after Daniel Tarullo, the top Federal Reserve official charged with financial regulation, said he would resign, creating further room for Trump to reshape the Fed’s policymaking staff.

To Maintain Peace, Residents Preserve Tradition of Burning “Memedi”

Bungaya customary village, Bebandem, Karangasem, is one of the old villages in Bali. Every customary and religious ritual at the village takes place uniquely. One of them can be seen in the implementation of usaba mumu or familiarly known as usaba memedi. It’s named as usaba memedi because the ritual is marked with the ‘burning’ of memedi (spirits). The procession is carried out amid the pounding sounds of kulkul (wooden split drum) throughout customary hamlet and clan temples at night. How does the implementation look like?

Usaba mumu is held once a year falling in January (Balinese seventh month). This year, peak of the implementation took place on Wednesday (Jan. 18). Fifteen days in advance, residents have looked for ritual paraphernalia ingredients such as young coconut leaf, fruit, palm leaf and others at local customary village. ‘’Usaba Mumu’’ di Desa Adat Bungaya Then, three days before the peak of procession, all the people create the figure of memedi made from various leaves, such as the leaf of aba, bamboo, eggplant and pulet.

The leaves are arranged in such a way to form humanoid figure coming with tribal marking by using lime betel.

“This paraphernalia is ritualized first in the morning at respective family temple. At night, it is taken out for the ritual procession,” said the apparatus of Bungaya customary village, I Gede Adi Krisna Widana, just before the peak of the ritual began.

At the peak of usaba mumu, thousands of families at Bungaya village have been busy with ritual preparations from the morning.

Krisna said that before sunrise, the whole customary village apparatus come out to village temple or Bale Agung temple to prepare all means of rituals such as pras daksina, bayuan and kelanan.

In the meantime, all people have prepared ritual paraphernalia known as penyagaan (guard) made from palm tree stem from the morning. It is made to resemble a human figure decorated with various means such as coconut leaf arrangement and wild cherry fruit. The penyagaan means that people must be able to control their passions as preparation to pay homage.

The guard figure is placed in front of their respective alley. It will be dismantled at midday, after going through particular ritual.

“According to local belief, all the guard figures can later be mounted again in paddy fields or anywhere in order to avoid any catastrophe,” said Krisna.

In the afternoon, the whole community, especially women, will say prayers at Pemuhunan Temple.

This temple is quite unique located under a sacred banyan tree without any shrines. Prior to the prayers,

thousands of women are sitting around a banyan tree along with their offerings before the worship around 22:00 On the other hand, men are preparing the memedi figure that will be burned at the location of guard figure in the morning.

After completing the ritual at the Pemuhunan Temple, then memedi figure is burned simultaneously marked with the sounds of kulkul at 15 customary hamlets and clan temples that keep pounding until

the procession is over. Burning the memedi figure has the meaning of burning all the natures of anger and negative traits in human beings, so that people can live harmonious and peaceful life.

The ashes are ritualized again after formed into human figure at the location of burning. When everything is over, the offerings prepared are immediately offered at the ash-made figure. “After the procession, it usually rains at the night symbolizing if the ritual has

run smoothly,” said Krisna.

Three days after this procession, the entire local residents say prayers at the village temple. This process is called ngelisin where all pilgrims invoke holy water.

After making introspection for three days, all the local people go through life with a new atmosphere.

Basically, this procession symbolizes the journey of self-control and restores the butha kala to maintain the balance of macrocosm and microcosm. (kmb)

Story on a Water-Selling Grandma It is not difficult to reach this location.

Tirta Taman Mumbul Temple is situated around one kilometer from Sangeh tourist attraction. From Denpasar, we must turn right before Sangeh having been famous for its monkey forest. Within less than ten minutes, we will arrive at the destination.

This location looks to be halved by the highway. The temple with a small lake is located to the left of the road, while sacred shower for purificatory rite sits on the right way.

There are interesting stories about this location. It is much believed by local community, whether it is true or not, this is the story developing amid the community. It is said, the spring coming out at this place originates from a water jug belonging to a water-selling grandmother. It is not known for sure and untold who the grandmother is and where she comes from. Obviously she is a salesperson of water from one village to another. By and large, she brings a jug upheld on her head.

Once upon a time, she arrived at this lo-

cation. Due to being fatigue after selling for whole day, she then took a rest. Her water on sale remained. At this location, she saw a lot of plants were drought. Having a pity on them, she watered the plants with her water.

Before long, the water poured then became a fountain.

So far, many people have come and perform purificatory rite at this location. Other than for such ritual purpose, local communities also come to take water for drinking.

Water of this shower is very clear. People believe the water at this location no longer needs to be boiled, and can be immediately drunk. When taking a gallon, people will be charged donation as much as IDR 2,000.

North Korea tests ballistic missile; U.S. to avoid escalation

NEGARA - Tidal waves in the southern coast of Bali returned to flood the neighborhoods of Pebuahan hamlet, Banyubiru, Negara, on Friday night (Feb. 10).

Residents were forced to evacuate to a safer place and save their valuables in the house. No fatalities were reported in the disaster.

Until Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11), a number of residents assisted by preparedness disaster cadres (Tagana), regional disaster mitigation agency (BPBD), volunteers and community protection evacuated furniture and remaining building materials. From the data collection, at least 42 buildings of residents are destroyed by the brunt of seawater.

Chief Executive of BPBD Jembrana, I Ketut Eko Susila, said that other than helping evacuate residents’ furniture and building materials, his agency also set up tents to temporarily accommodate residents whose houses were destroyed. From monitoring, the most severely affected is in the eastern part of the coast.

Based on data collection, a total of 42 residents’ home were affected with the loss estimated to reach hundreds of millions of rupiahs. Of the dozens of damaged buildings, four of which are stall buildings. Samsudin, a local resident, revealed on Friday evening that tidal waves flooded the asphalt road.

Moreover, the water flooded the homes on the northern side of the road. On that account, residents attempted to install a barrier by installing simple wave barriers in the form of piles of sand sacks and unused tires. “Right now, we are still saving the house content. The tide is estimated to last up to next two days,” he explained.

In the meantime, field observation last Saturday indicated that tidal waves did not only occur in the buildings near the coast, but also at the homes of residents in the northern side of the road. Residents of Candikuning difficult to get water after disaster

TABANAN - The break of pipelines owned by Municipal Waterworks (PDAM) due to floods and avalanche on Thursday (Feb. 9) caused the residents of Candikuning village, Baturiti, to face clean water shortages. To meet water needs, residents are forced to take water from the lake or the Eka Karya Botanical Garden.

A resident of Candikuning hamlet II, Candikuning, Sriani, said on Saturday (Feb. 11) the water did not run. As a result, she was forced not to shower on Friday and took advantage of water from Lake Beratan and the Eka Karya Botanical Garden, Bedugul, for cooking.

“For cooking, I use the water taken from the botanical garden. At the location, the water is still running and sources from springs. Although it is not very clean, at least it can be used to cook,” said Sriani who opens satay food stall near the botanical garden.

She explained that residents of Can-

dikuning II hamlet meet their water needs by taking from the lake when the water of municipal waterworks does not run. Even though it is not very clean, it can still be used for toilet needs. “There are also residents accommodating rainwater,” she said.

Aside from the outage of water services, the electricity also went out on Saturday morning (Feb. 11). Sriani hoped the water pipeline problem could be fixed immediately so that the water can run normally and so can the electricity.

In the meantime, the outage of PDAM water flow was justified by headman of Candikuning, Made Mudita. According to him, the outage of PDAM service happens due to leakage and damage to the pipelines and they require urgent repairs. “Right now, it is in the process of repair. TABANAN - Hundreds of Indonesian kris daggers will be displayed in cultural exhibition and archipelagic kris exchange for five days at Anom Palace, Tabanan, on Friday (Feb. 10). Some kris daggers are brought in from Bali, Lombok, Madura, Malang, Surabaya and Central Java.

Chief of the Tabanan Cultural Conservation Forum, Anak Agung Ngurah Panji Astika from Anom Palace, said on Wednesday (Feb. 8) that the archipelagic kris exhibition held for the first time takes the theme “Petitenget Tumpek Landep.” It is meant to preserve one of the valuable cultural heritages of the nation.

He explained that so far the kris dagger in Indonesia has been widely associated with mystical object, shamanism and occultism. As a result, younger generation is ashamed and afraid to know further about the kris matters. According to him, in the past kris dagger was a mandatory accessory for men to show off their status and prestige. “Kris dagger is a priceless hereditary possession,” said Ngurah Panji.

Besides, kris dagger is a hallmark of Indonesia because this cultural product could not be found and imitated by the other nations in the world. “Indonesian people have known metallurgic technique since thousands of years ago. Then,

it was used to make kris dagger wrapped in a high taste inherent in every region of Indonesia,” he explained.

Actually, Ngurah Panji said that kris dagger is a leading edge technology wrapped in the richness of Indonesian culture, so that it could become one of the very prideful characteristics of the nation.

“We’d just like to point out that this exhibition is to reiterate to the public especially younger generation to love the native culture to Indonesia. SINGARAJA - As a result of heavy rain, a total of 12 points on Gitgit road section avalanched. The roads are partially buried by the avalanche. Director General of Highways, Buleleng regional disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) and citizens on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11) managed to clear the path of avalanche materials.

Nevertheless, the traffic passing the extreme point remains to be closed by police. It is based on consideration that rain intensity stays quite high and it can potentially result in mudslides aftershocks.

Chief of Buleleng Police, Made Sukawijaya, revealed on Saturday (Feb. 11) that even though the

handling of the avalanche had accomplished, the soil conditions at the road section is still very unstable, so that it has the potential to avalanche during the rains.

For safety, traffic closures are still enforced. It will continue to apply if the weather conditions have not improved.

“Since the rainfall is high, the road section remains to be closed. Later on, it will be opened if the weather has improved. This is for the sake of safety,” he said on the sidelines of reviewing the avalanche.

The closure is also inseparable from the condition of the collapse of road at some points. To follow up the condition, traffic from Denpasar to Singaraja is diverted to Pupuan, Tabanan and vice versa. “Later, when the condition is back to normal, the road section will be opened again,” he said. LOS ANGELES - The Grammy awards are shaping up to be the ultimate showdown between pop’s two biggest female stars as Beyonce and Adele go head-to-head for song, record and album of the year on Sunday.

Despite 62 total Grammy nominations and 20 awards, Beyonce, 35, has never won the coveted album of the year, despite topping the charts with all six of her studio records.

With nine nominations, many fans are hoping Beyonce will overcome her Grammys’ curse with “Lemonade,” the personally and politically charged album many believe to be about the artist’s troubled marriage to

rapper Jay Z, layered with themes of black and female empowerment.

Standing in her way, however, is Britain’s Adele, 28, who swept the Grammys in 2012 with six wins for “21.” She returns with five nominations this year for “25,” a collection of personal coming-of-age songs including the power ballad “Hello.”

The televised Grammy awards will honor winners in more than 80 categories, voted for by members of the music industry.

Beyonce and Adele have overlapping audience, says Billboard magazine senior editor Jem Aswad, adding that Adele fans likely skew older than the younger “Beyhive” that her rival draws. (rtr)

Victim of Kintamani avalanche rises

Hundreds of Songan residents evacuated

BANGLI - Victim of avalanche in Kintamani increases. A resident of Subaya village, Ni Siman, died as buried by avalanche and rocks. Previously, the avalanche at Songan, Awan and Sukawana village, Kintamani claimed 12 fatalities. Therefore, the avalanche in Kintamani has totally killed 13 people.

The avalanche disaster was followed by flash floods at Anta Pura hamlet, Tejakula, Tejakula. It claimed the life of Cening Siman, 70, from Subaya hamlet, Subaya, Kintamani. On Saturday night (Feb. 11) around 24:00, the victim who lives alone was killed after her house was buried by avalanche.

Aside from claiming casualty, the disaster also eroded the roads at the village. It happened right beneath the victim’s house, where the road is covered up by avalanche materials so that it hampers the access of motorcycles.

As information compiled in the field on Saturday (Feb. 11), previously heavy rain with high intensity stroke Tejakula village and its surroundings. Before the incident, the victim was resting alone at her house. Her simple house located under the hill was built on the land borrowed from her neighbor. At

midnight, a sudden flash of lightning occurred right above the hill.

It was followed by avalanche from hilltop. Soil and rock got eroded and precisely afflicted to victim’s house. As a result, the victim’s house was buried to devastate.

Unluckily, the victim buried to die and her body was crushed by boulder.

Local residents along village officials of Tejakula just managed to evacuate the victim’s body around 07:00. Her body could be removed from the heap of soil and boulder after excavated by residents using a hoe and makeshift tools. Once evacuated, her body was bathed.

Headman of Tejakula, I Ketut Suardana, said that the victim has long lived at Anta Pura hamlet while working on the garden belongs to a resident of Tejakula. To finance her life, the victim sells crops such as banana leaves and

firewood, or bananas to Tejakula Market. Although she has long lived at Anta Pura hamlet, her residential status remains to be listed as a resident of Subaya hamlet, Subaya, Kintamani.

Residents evacuate In the meantime, hundreds of residents of Bantas hamlet, Songan, Kintamani, who survived from the avalanche disaster on Friday morning (Feb. 10) evacuated to refugee camps set up near the customary village cemetery.
