NEW YORK — Not so fast: J.Lo is performing at the World Cup after all. Jennifer Lopez said in an interview with The Associated Press that she is flying to Brazil on Tuesday night to perform during the tournament’s opening ceremony on Thursday. “I’m coming. I leave tonight. We always were going,” she said. “I think people get anxious, especially with me and my schedule when I’m like, ‘Ah, OK, I can leave this day, that day, I don’t know if we can make it.’” “People get nervous and I think it was a little bit premature to announce anything,” she said. “But we are definitely going.” FIFA officials announced earlier this week that the singer wouldn’t perform the official tune “We Are One (Ole Ola)” alongside Pitbull and Claudia Leitte. But Lopez said they will perform before Brazil takes on Croatia at Thursday’s opening game in Sao Paulo. Lopez said the World Cup song was orchestrated by Pitbull, who invited her to join on the track.“I can’t take credit for this. This was one of Pitbull’s call-ins,” said Lopez, who has collaborated with the rapper on the hits “On the Floor” and “Dance Again.” “He had this record and he’s like, ‘I think this record could be great for the World Cup,” she recalled. “He’s like, ‘Will you do it with me?’ And I go, ‘Yeah, of course.’” Lopez added: “I’m so lucky that he gave me the opportunity.” The 44-year-old singer, who’s from the Bronx, is also busy promoting her new album, “A.K.A.,” to be released next week.

Jolie and UK’s Hague host sexual violence summit Associated Press

LONDON — Angelina Jolie appealed for a change in attitude on sexual violence in conflict Tuesday, bringing the power of her celebrity to an international summit on a topic she said has been taboo for too long. Opening the four-day London summit, the Hollywood star and United Nations envoy spoke with passion and conviction, recalling her meetings with rape victims who struggle with injustice and stigma long after their countries have emerged from conflict. “We must send a message around the world that there is no disgrace in being a survivor of sexual violence, that the shame is on the aggressor,” she said, to cheers from the audience. “We need to shatter that culture of impunity.” Jolie and British Foreign Secretary William Hague are co-hosting the event, billed as the largest gathering on the subject ever. Diplomats, officials and non-profit representatives from more than 100 countries gathered to press for the rights of victims — women, men and children alike. Wangu Kanja, a Kenyan rape survivor who has set up her own organization to help others, said she hoped the summit will send a message that governments cannot continue to ignore the issue. “I’m really hoping that from this

the Kenyan government will be forced to do something,” she said hours after the summit began. Hague and Jolie are set to launch a guidance document on best practices Wednesday to help strengthen prosecutions for rape in conflicts. Hague will also host a meeting Thursday on tackling Boko Haram, the Islamic terror group that abducted more than 300 schoolgirls and young women in Nigeria in April. The pair have campaigned hard on the issue of sexual violence for two years, and on Tuesday they were welcomed

with cheers from others fighting for the cause as they toured a lively fringe program featuring photo exhibitions, poetry readings, and artists performing skits. With the cameras of the world focused on her, Jolie said she wanted to dedicated the conference to a rape victim she and Hague recently met in Bosnia. “She felt that having had no justice for her particular crime, in her particular situation, and having seen the actual man who raped her on the streets free, she really felt abandoned by the world,” Jolie said. “This day is for her.”

MANGUPURA - The drafting and enactment of Benoa Bay as conservation area in the regional bylaw draft on Detailed Spatial Plan (RDTR) and Zoning Regulation of Badung County was positively responded by a number of circles. Even, an environmentalist, Dr. Luh Kartini, proposed in order the Regional Bylaw Draft on Detailed Spatial Plan of Badung County could be made into bhisama (sanctified stipulation). Having been made into bhisama, it was believed that any violation against the rules could be suppressed because violating the bhisama was equally the same as getting prepared to get a curse. “Simply be made into bhisama, so nobody can change it. Similarly, the one who makes it is unable to change. It’s very good. I absolutely agree and it is really desired by people of Tanjung Benoa. We in the environmental studies also require it,” she said. Meanwhile, a community leader from Abiansemal, I Nyoman Sentana, judged that even though being late there had been a good progress made by the Badung House. Sentana asked the Badung House to discuss it consistently. Thus, the appropriate intention and action to preserve the environment would not weaken or even faded amidst the process. He also urged to review or annul various rules in Bali that attempted to smooth the reclamation plan. Similar appreciation was also extended by Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Tourism Intellectuals for Bali Region, I Putu Anom. This former Dean of the Faculty of Tourism,

Udayana University, considered if the Benoa Bay remained a conservation area then mangroves and coral reefs in the region would remain intact. Coastal abrasion could be prevented and socio-cultural life of the community would be well maintained. “In terms of economic perspective, it means that fishermen can still be active including the marine tourism activities can go on normally. Carrying capacity of Southern Bali and Badung can be guaranteed to realize sustainable development,” continued the man from Kapal village, Mengwi. Chairman of Bali Dwipa Care Forum, Gede Bangun Nusantara, judged the measure of Badung House that would maintain the Benoa Bay as a conservation area was a step forward than the Bali House that so far had not showed its decisive establishment related to the issue. Bangun hoped the Detailed Spatial Plan of Badung County could be replicated by Denpasar House. Moreover, the Bali House was

also expected to determine the Benoa Bay into conservation area where at the moment it was revising the Regional Spatial Plan. The establishment of Bali House was necessary to give legal instrument to Badung and Denpasar related to the Detailed Spatial Plan of Benoa Bay as conservation area. “Do not let the revision of Bali Regional Spatial Plan even change the Benoa Bay into non-conservation area. If this happens, then we can allege if the revision of spatial plan is filled with the interests of investors,” he said. Earlier, Chairman of the Special Committee for the Detailed Spatial Plan of the Badung House, I Wayan Suyasa, revealed that in the draft at issue by the Special Committee for Detailed Spatial Plan in the Badung House, Benoa Bay area was included in the sub-zone of Coastal Conservation and Small Islands. Distribution of the conservation sub-zone and small islands included the conservation block of Pudut Island at Tanjung Benoa village, conservation block of mangrove forest protection of the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura) at Jimbaran village, Benoa village and Tanjung Benoa village, coral reef protection block, protection block of catch fishermen, seaweed farming protection block and buffer ecosystem block of Benoa Bay waters. With the enactment of Benoa Bay as conservation area, the reclamation was not allowed to do. (kmb25/kmb32)
