UK’s Prince Harry hits out at media “harassment” of new U.S. girlfriend
LONDON - Britain’s Prince Harry issued a rare statement on Tuesday criticising the media for intruding into the private life of his American girlfriend, saying the press had subjected her to “a wave of abuse and harassment”.
British newspapers have been running daily stories about Meghan Markle since it emerged at the end of October that the 35-year-old actress had been “secretly” dating the prince, 32, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth, for several months. Harry and his elder brother Prince William, the second in line to the throne, have had a strained relationship with the press ever since their mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997 while being chased by paparazzi on motorbikes. However, the statement from his communications secretary, which officially confirmed Harry and Markle’s relationship for the first time, contained an unusually strong condemnation of the press. “He has rarely taken formal action on the very regular publication of fictional stories that are written about him and he has worked hard to develop a professional relationship with the media,” the statement said. “But the past week has seen a line crossed. His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. “Some of this has been very public - the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.” Divorcee Markle is a native of Los Angeles who stars in the legal drama “Suits”. Trump election elicits fears, some cheers around the globe
LONDON — The world will face a starkly different America when President-elect Donald Trump takes the oath of office in January. While the billionaire businessman’s triumph was welcomed in some countries, others saw it as a big shock, as governments will now have to deal with a man who has cozied up to Russian President Vladimir Putin, told NATO allies they would have to pay for their own protection and vowed to make the Mexican government pay for a multibillion-dollar border wall. Leaders weren’t sure what to expect after a U.S. campaign in which Trump upended foreign policy orthodoxy on numerous fronts. Trump’s win was particularly startling in Mexico, where his remarks calling Mexican immigrants criminals and “rapists” were a deep insult to national pride. Financial analysts have predicted a Trump win would threaten billions of dollars in cross-border trade, and government officials say they have drawn up a contingency plan for such a scenario, though without
releasing details. “It’s DEFCON 2,” Mexican analyst Alejandro Hope said. “Probably something as close to a national emergency as Mexico has faced in many decades.” The impact of his unexpected electoral triumph is also being felt strongly in the volatile Middle East, where multiple crises are unfolding. Iran’s foreign minister said the United States must respect the commitments it made as part of last year’s historic nuclear deal. Trump had criticized the accord during the campaign and said he would try to renegotiate it. Mohammad Javad Zarif spoke Wednesday during a visit to Romania after Trump’s win was clear. The foreign minister said that it’s important “that whoever is elected president of America should fully understand current realities of the world and conform their policies with those realities.”
He says the incoming U.S. president “should respect the commitments that the American government has accepted, not as a bilateral deal, but as a multilateral one.” In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Trump and called him a “true friend of the State of Israel.” Netanyahu said that he believes the two leaders “will continue to strengthen the unique alliance between our two countries and bring it to ever greater heights.” Earlier, a key ally in Netanyahu’s center-right coalition, Education Minister Naftali Bennett, said Trump’s victory means that “the era of a Palestinian state is over.” The Palestinians want a state in lands Israel captured in 1967. Netanyahu has said he is willing to negotiate a border deal, but has retracted offers made by his predecessors while pressing ahead with Jewish settlement expansion on war-won land. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that he hopes “peace will be achieved” during Trump’s term. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-
Abadi congratulated Trump, saying he’s looking forward to continued support in his country’s fight against the Islamic State group. In a statement on his website, al-Abadi said he hopes the “world and the United States will continue to support Iraq in fighting terrorism.” He says terrorism doesn’t threaten Iraq alone, but the whole world.

DENPASAR - Sluggish economy of Indonesia and Bali in particular has an impact on tourism sector. This is evidenced by the decline in domestic and foreign tourist arrival to Serangan Island. This island having been famous for its marine tourism, such as snorkeling, parasailing, coral reef, sea grass and turtle breeding showed a decrease from September to early November 2016. Actually, the tourist arrival from 2009 to 2015 was quite stable and evenly every day. “In January to August 2016, the tourist arrival almost reached 1,200 each day. Frequent vaping by teens linked to heavy smoking later
LOS ANGELES - Adolescents with a regular vaping habit aren’t just more likely to take up smoking; they also have higher odds of developing a heavy cigarette habit, a U.S. study suggests. The research, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, calls into question whether e-cigarettes can be an effective cessation aid, said lead study author Adam Leventhal, director of the University of Southern California’s Emotion and Addiction Laboratory in Los Angeles. “Our most recent study is the first to show that teenagers who vape not only experiment with cigarettes, but are also more likely to become regular smokers,” Leventhal said by email. “It is also the first time teenage vaping has been linked to heavier smoking patterns involving use of multiple cigarettes per day.” Big tobacco companies are all developing e-cigarettes. The battery-
powered devices feature a glowing tip and a heating element that turns liquid nicotine and other flavorings into a cloud of vapor that users inhale. E-cigarette use has surged among U.S. teens in recent years, surpassing traditional cigarettes to become the most popular tobacco product among young people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. An estimated 3 million middle and high school students used the devices last year. While tobacco control advocates fear e-cigarettes may give rise to a new generation of nicotine addicts who eventually transition to conventional cigarettes, some small studies suggest the devices might benefit the health of people who already smoke
and switch to e-cigs, which are widely regarded as less dangerous. “E-cigarettes do not prevent teens from advancing to smoking and may possibly do the opposite,” Leventhal said. For the current study, researchers examined data on 3,084 students at 10 Los Angeles high schools who participated in two surveys – one in the fall of tenth grade and another in the spring. Overall, the prevalence of vaping and smoking was low. At the start of the study, 2,075 students, or 67 percent, said they had never tried e-cigarettes. Another 730 participants, or 23 percent, had vaped in the past and 133 vaped on two or fewer days in the previous 30 days. Just 146 teens, or about 5 percent, said they were frequent e-cigarette users, meaning they vaped three or more days in the past month. (rtr)

NORWICH - After a car crash, children can experience posttraumatic stress disorder for months or years afterward although parents may have trouble recognizing it, according to a new U.K. study. “What these results stress I think is that we need to take the reactions of young children to these sorts of events seriously – their reactions can persist for years in some cases,” lead author Dr. Richard Meiser-Stedman of the University of East Anglia’s Norwich Medical School told Reuters Health by email. Among children aged 8 years and over, roughly 10 to 30 percent of those in motor vehicle collisions experience PTSD, he said. The researchers studied 71 families of children ages 2 to 10 and their parents or caregivers who went to an emergency department after a motor vehicle collision in 2004 or 2005. Families had posttrauma assessments two to four weeks after the accident, six months later, and again three years later. Half the children had been riding in a car and 40 percent had been pedestrians. Almost 30 percent had no injuries, 65 percent had only soft tissue injuries and 7 percent had broken bones. Four children lost consciousness and 11 were admitted to the hospital. Most children who showed signs of stress after the accident did not go on to develop PTSD. But among the 17 percent of children who met criteria for pediatric PTSD at the three-year point, parents who were themselves experiencing difficulties often did not recognize the child’s ongoing problem. “Parents may not spot the signs of PTSD for the same reasons that parents may miss many mental health difficulties, particularly emotional disorders like anxiety and depression,” Meiser-Stedman said. “Poor mental health may often be a very private experience, and children find it difficult to describe their thoughts and feelings.” Parents with post-traumatic stress symptoms at the beginning of the study more often had children with post-traumatic stress symptoms, even three years later, researchers reported in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. Mistreat wife, an Austrian man reported to police
AMLAPURA - An Austrian citizen, Otmar Daniel Adelsberger, 54, was reported by his wife Mariana Dangu 29, to Karangasem Police station, Monday (Nov. 7). Mariana claimed to have been persecuted by complainant after cleansing her baby with a special baby cloth on carpet on the floor. To police, Mariana said that at first her husband working as a ski teacher came home from the beach at Dangin Seme II, Karangasem. This foreigner, she said, instantly got angry after seeing her cleansing the body of her baby on the carpet using a wet baby wipes around 17:30. Mariana admitted to be surprised when seeing the grumpy behavior of the complainant, whereas he claimed to get used to cleanse the body of her three-monthold baby on the carpet. Such situation made them get involved in quarrel leading to fist fights. The complainant Austrian citizen immediately kicked the waist of Mariana. Mariana claimed to have escaped into the room to avoid the
wrath of her husband. However, the fighting continued to her room. “In my room, I slapped his cheeks,” said Mariana to police when reporting the case to the Karangasem Police. After the incident, Mariana claimed that her hair was grabbed and she was dragged out of the room. However, Mariana continued to fight. She attempted to snatch the baby from the arms of her husband. However, the complainant directly bit her hand to get injured. Thus, she immediately reported the case to Karangasem Police station. Spokesperson of Karangasem Police, I Komang Orta, said on Tuesday (Nov. 8) that domestic quarrel happened due to a misunderstanding between the complainant and Mariana. After receiving the report, police visited the home of the complainant and recorded statements of the witness. Currently, the case is being handled by Karangasem Police. DENPASAR - Sanglah Hospital will develop an integrated cancer service in 2018. In 2017, it will develop an integrated heart service first and then in 2018 will be resumed with the development of an integrated cancer service. “Then, we’ll equip it with radiotherapy service. Currently, we have only one radiotherapy facility, namely cobalt only. Then in 2018, we are going to install linacs and cobalt,” said Director of Sanglah Hospital Medical and Nursing Service, Dr. I Ketut Sudartana, recently. Development of health service, particularly cancer, continues to be done so that cancer services can actually be served optimally at Sanglah Hospital denoting reference for other hospitals in NTT and NTB. He promised to deal comprehensively at Sanglah Hospital. He explained that modality of cancer therapy consists of surgery, chemotherapy, targeting therapy and radiotherapy. Not all cancer patients can take radiotherapy because there are several types of cancers being sensitive to the administration of radiotherapy, while some others are resistant and depending on the stage. He said that administration of radiotherapy can reduce cancer staging, where it cannot be treated with single treatment, but must
be combined with chemotherapy. Such therapy can extend the life of patient, but still depends on the stage. “When the stage is found and dealt earlier, it will be better. Cancer is said to get recovered if there is no complaints after five years. Results of the investigations, CT scan and others indicate no problem, then patient can be said to have recovered,” he explained. Later on, by establishing an integrated cancer center, all cancer units will be placed at single location. The location is still being considered, but the West Bakung becomes one of the options for the location of the integrated cancer. In the meantime, Gede Kambayana, a specialist in internal medicine at rheumatology division of Sanglah Hospital said that patients with excessive immune are called autoimmunity such as lupus disease. They can be treated with immunosuppressant. This immunosuppressant is a therapy to suppress the immune system so that it is back to normal. “The drugs used for immunosuppressant are similar with that of cancer where the cancer drugs are essentially the same, namely the immunosuppressant,” he explained. Immunosuppressant therapy using drugs with low dose aims to suppress the immune system. (may)

Overturned boat case investigation
Without life jacket, competency of skipper explored
DENPASAR - The overturned boat case on Serangan Beach killing three people, including the skipper, is being investigated by the marine police investigation unit of Denpasar Police. Results of the preliminary investigation indicated that boat passengers did not use a lifebelt. Additionally, the investigator also studied the competency of Febrianto as a skipper. “We are still exploring whether Febrianto has a certificate or not and has experience or not. Now, we attempt to contact the boat owner,” said chief of Marine Police Unit of Denpasar Police, Ketut Suparta, with permission from Chief of Denpasar Police, Hadi Purnomo, Tuesday (Nov. 8). According to Suparta, from the testimony of five witnesses examined until Tuesday, the scene is located approximately 1 kilometer from shoreline of Serangan Island with a depth of three meters. The witness examined is resident who helped the victim, the victim from Japan, water sport owner and family of Febrianto. On the boat has been provided with four life jackets and one tube. “However, the safety equipment was not used. The skipper and his girlfriend did not wear it (life jacket—Ed). From the explanation of his family, Febrianto and Erni have not married yet. However,
Erni lived with her boyfriend so that residents thought they have got married,” he said. In fact, the boat does not belong to a water sport company, but belongs to an individual. There is cooperation between the boat owner and the water sport management at Serangan. “Boat skipper is hired by the boat owner. In such incident, the case quite complicated the investigation,” he said. Based on the results of examination to witnesses, the three victims were found dead on seabed. BRUSSELS - Turkey’s long quest to join the European Union is likely to end in failure unless Ankara reverses its post-coup clamp-down on civil rights, press freedoms and the judiciary, the bloc’s top official in charge of ties with Turkey said. While Ankara is a crucial ally in Brussels’ efforts to stop migrants reaching Europe, the European Commission, which handles the bloc’s expansion, fears Turkey is becoming increasingly authoritarian and is concerned about the viability of its EU bid. “It is certainly not heading in the European direction,” said European Commissioner Johannes Hahn, who voiced incomprehension at the scale of President Tayyip Erdogan’s purge of judges, teachers and the military following a July coup attempt in Turkey. PARIS - Europe must not flinch in defending its interests and people now that Donald Trump’s election win has added to the uncertainty created by Britain’s decision to exit the European Union, France’s foreign minister said on Wednesday. France is a key American ally, and its officials had in recent weeks openly endorsed Hillary Clinton for U.S. president and warned that Trump’s “confused” foreign policy objectives were alarming for the rest of the world. “We have to meet the challenge for a Europe that must be able to better defend its citizens and its interests,” Ayrault told France 2 television. “Europe cannot blink after Brexit, after the election of Donald Trump with all the questions being raised, Europe must stand together more, be more active and go more on the offensive even if it is just to protect itself.” President Francois Hollande, who has yet to announce whether he will run for a second term in next year’s French presidential election, said Paris wanted to immediately begin talks with Trump to clarify his stance on key international affairs. “This American election opens a period of uncertainty,” the Socialist president told reporters. “In the context we need a strong France and a united Europe capable of expressing and carrying out its policy everywhere where its values and interests are put into question.”

However, the peso pulled back to trade around 8.5 percent weaker at 19.88 per dollar early on Wednesday, helped by expectations that Mexico’s central bank and finance ministry would announce measures to support it at a joint media conference at 0700 local time (0800 EST/1300 GMT). “Very hard times are coming to Mexico,” said analyst Gabriela Siller of Mexican bank BASE. “We think the central bank could intervene by raising its interest rate because the (peso) movement was so strong, above all in order to head off imminent capital flight,” Siller said. Malaysian hiker found dead on Mt. Rinjani
MATARAM - A Malaysian hiker Ng Yin Teck (24) was found dead in Aik Kalak hot water spring on Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, an official said here on Wednesday. “We have just received information from the local people. The body is being evacuated,” Head of Senaru Resort of Mount Rinjani National Park Authority Gusti Ketut Suarta said here on Wednesday. The Malaysian hiker, whose passport number is A32571227, was found trespassing Mount Rinjani, as the local authorities has closed the area following a volcanic eruption in September. “The hiking area had been closed
and no hiking activity was allowed without official permit,” Suarta said. The Malaysian national was reported to have started the hike from Sembalun track in East Lombok District. He was escorted by a porter and a guide along with another female hiker from Germany, whose initial was JB (22). The group then took a bath in the hot water spring on Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 pm local time. The Malaysian dived in the water spring and did not surface until 07:00 pm and his body was found floating at the hot spring. LONDON - Two people remained trapped and more than 50 others were taken to hospital after a tram overturned in south London on Wednesday, emergency services said. Police said they had been called at about 6:10 am (0610 GMT) to reports that a tram had derailed near a stop close to central Croydon, a suburb of the capital. SEMARAPURA - Kamasan Village is 2 km from Semarapura and takes 10 minutes travel time to reach. What is the attraction of this village? The head of Kamasan Village, I Nyoman Sidharta Yoga explains that the village is the centre for Balinese cultural studies. Every hamlet in the Kamasan Village has particular characteristic attributes in the field of handicrafts. Here, one can see wayang paintings in the Kamasan style and objects made from bullet shells by blacksmiths. TORONTO - Indiana Pacers forward Paul George has been fined $15,000 for kicking the ball into the stands that hit a fan in the face, the National Basketball Association said on Tuesday. The three-times NBA All-Star was given a technical foul and ejected from the game for the incident, which occurred late in the third quarter of the Pacers’ home win over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. George, who won a men’s basketball gold medal with Team USA at the Rio Olympics in August, is averaging a team-leading 20.4 points for a Pacers team that have struggled to a 3-4 start to the NBA’s 2016-17 season. UFC’s Jones gets one-year suspension for doping violation CALIFORNIA - The United States AntiDoping Agency (USADA) has suspended interim UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones for one year after he tested positive for prohibited substances clomiphene and letrozole. Jones, who tested positive in an out-of-competition sample provided on June 16 and was pulled from a title fight against Daniel Cormier days before UFC 200, had claimed he mistakenly took a contaminated sexual-performance pill. In a statement released on Monday, USADA said a three-member independent panel had found Jones’ “degree of fault was at the very top end of the scale”. USADA slapped him with the standard oneyear ban for the violation, and backdated it to July 6, the date of his provisional suspension.
Jones contended he had a taken pill called Tadalafil, which contained the prohibited substances and had been given to him by a team mate, believing it to be a pill called Cialis, which does not contain any banned substances. The panel said Jones “is not a drug cheat” but his actions “verged on the reckless” as he simply relied on his team mate’s word on what the pill was. Jones was stripped of the light heavyweight title he had held since 2011 and suspended for several months after being charged in a hit-andrun case in April 2015, an incident for which he was later sentenced to 18 months probation. He returned to competition in April this year with a victory over Ovince Saint Preux to take the division’s interim belt. (rtr)

England defender Luke Shaw has taken the brunt of it. Six weeks ago, Mourinho was openly critical of Shaw’s defensive work in United’s 3-1 loss to Watford in the Premier League. On Sunday, Shaw was one of two players — the other being Chris Smalling — criticized by Mourinho for failing to play through the pain for a league game against Swansea. “There is a difference,” Mourinho said, “between the brave, who want to be there at any cost, and the ones for whom a little pain can make a difference.”

Kamasan Village
SEMARAPURA - Kamasan Village is 2 km from Semarapura and takes 10 minutes travel time to reach. What is the attraction of this village? The head of Kamasan Village, I Nyoman Sidharta Yoga explains that the village is the centre for Balinese cultural studies. Every hamlet in the Kamasan Village has particular characteristic attributes in the field of handicrafts. As soon as one enters this village, art shops will be encountered around the small town of Sangging. Here, one can see wayang paintings in the Kamasan style and objects made from bullet shells by blacksmiths. Ritual paraphernalia, guest room ornaments and so forth can also be found, which are characteristic of Kamasan Village. Administratively, Kamasan Village is divided into four hamlets. Most (80%) of the inhabitants living at Kacang Dawa earn their livelihood as farmers and at Sangging Hamlet as blacksmiths and painters of classical wayang in the Kamasan style. Meanwhile, the Pande Mas hamlet is the hub of blacksmiths and in the Tabanan hamlet, 60% of its
inhabitants work as blacksmiths and the remaining 40% as farmers. More than that, as added by Sidharta who was born in 1953, Kamasan Village also is the centre of Wayang Kamasan and Balinese language studies. “In Bali, the most complete composition of Balinese language lies in the Klungkung regency. I’d like to make Kamasan an urban village, however it sould still reflect its original rural atmosphere by preserving the potency of existing nature,” he adds. Undertakings for the development of tourism at Kamasan Village have been carried out by Sidharta. One of these is providing English and Japanese courses to his people, mainly the primary school students and youngsters who are interested in the tourism field. In addition, a program of mutual assistance to support the cleanliness and charm of Kamasan Village has been re-activated. UFC’s Jones gets one-year suspension for doping violation CALIFORNIA - The United States AntiDoping Agency (USADA) has suspended interim UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones for one year after he tested positive for prohibited substances clomiphene and letrozole. Jones, who tested positive in an out-of-competition sample provided on June 16 and was pulled from a title fight against Daniel Cormier days before UFC 200, had claimed he mistakenly took a contaminated sexual-performance pill. In a statement released on Monday, USADA said a three-member independent panel had found Jones’ “degree of fault was at the very top end of the scale”. USADA slapped him with the standard oneyear ban for the violation, and backdated it to July 6, the date of his provisional suspension.
Jones contended he had a taken pill called Tadalafil, which contained the prohibited substances and had been given to him by a team mate, believing it to be a pill called Cialis, which does not contain any banned substances. The panel said Jones “is not a drug cheat” but his actions “verged on the reckless” as he simply relied on his team mate’s word on what the pill was. Jones was stripped of the light heavyweight title he had held since 2011 and suspended for several months after being charged in a hit-andrun case in April 2015, an incident for which he was later sentenced to 18 months probation. He returned to competition in April this year with a victory over Ovince Saint Preux to take the division’s interim belt. (rtr)

LONDON - Two people remained trapped and more than 50 others were taken to hospital after a tram overturned in south London on Wednesday, emergency services said. Police said they had been called at about 6:10 am (0610 GMT) to reports that a tram had derailed near a stop close to central Croydon, a suburb of the capital. PARIS - Europe must not flinch in defending its interests and people now that Donald Trump’s election win has added to the uncertainty created by Britain’s decision to exit the European Union, France’s foreign minister said on Wednesday. France is a key American ally, and its officials had in recent weeks openly endorsed Hillary Clinton for U.S. president and warned that Trump’s “confused” foreign policy objectives were alarming for the rest of the world. “We have to meet the challenge for a Europe that must be able to better defend its citizens and its interests,” Ayrault told France 2 television. “Europe cannot blink after Brexit, after the election of Donald Trump with all the questions being raised, Europe must stand together more, be more active and go more on the offensive even if it is just to protect itself.” President Francois Hollande, who has yet to announce whether he will run for a second term in next year’s French presidential election, said Paris wanted to immediately begin talks with Trump to clarify his stance on key international affairs. “This American election opens a period of uncertainty,” the Socialist president told reporters. “In the context we need a strong France and a united Europe capable of expressing and carrying out its policy everywhere where its values and interests are put into question.”

MATARAM - A Malaysian hiker Ng Yin Teck (24) was found dead in Aik Kalak hot water spring on Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, an official said here on Wednesday. “We have just received information from the local people. The body is being evacuated,” Head of Senaru Resort of Mount Rinjani National Park Authority Gusti Ketut Suarta said here on Wednesday. The Malaysian hiker, whose passport number is A32571227, was found trespassing Mount Rinjani, as the local authorities has closed the area following a volcanic eruption in September. “The hiking area had been closed
and no hiking activity was allowed without official permit,” Suarta said. The Malaysian national was reported to have started the hike from Sembalun track in East Lombok District. He was escorted by a porter and a guide along with another female hiker from Germany, whose initial was JB (22). The group then took a bath in the hot water spring on Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 pm local time. The Malaysian dived in the water spring and did not surface until 07:00 pm and his body was found floating at the hot spring. BRUSSELS - Turkey’s long quest to join the European Union is likely to end in failure unless Ankara reverses its post-coup clamp-down on civil rights, press freedoms and the judiciary, the bloc’s top official in charge of ties with Turkey said. While Ankara is a crucial ally in Brussels’ efforts to stop migrants reaching Europe, the European Commission, which handles the bloc’s expansion, fears Turkey is becoming increasingly authoritarian and is concerned about the viability of its EU bid. “It is certainly not heading in the European direction,” said European Commissioner Johannes Hahn, who voiced incomprehension at the scale of President Tayyip Erdogan’s purge of judges, teachers and the military following a July coup attempt in Turkey. An estimated 3 million middle and high school students used the devices last year. While tobacco control advocates fear e-cigarettes may give rise to a new generation of nicotine addicts who eventually transition to conventional cigarettes, some small studies suggest the devices might benefit the health of people who already smoke
and switch to e-cigs, which are widely regarded as less dangerous. “E-cigarettes do not prevent teens from advancing to smoking and may possibly do the opposite,” Leventhal said. For the current study, researchers examined data on 3,084 students at 10 Los Angeles high schools who participated in two surveys – one in the fall of tenth grade and another in the spring. Overall, the prevalence of vaping and smoking was low. At the start of the study, 2,075 students, or 67 percent, said they had never tried e-cigarettes. Another 730 participants, or 23 percent, had vaped in the past and 133 vaped on two or fewer days in the previous 30 days. NORWICH - After a car crash, children can experience posttraumatic stress disorder for months or years afterward although parents may have trouble recognizing it, according to a new U.K. study. “What these results stress I think is that we need to take the reactions of young children to these sorts of events seriously – their reactions can persist for years in some cases,” lead author Dr. Richard Meiser-Stedman of the University of East Anglia’s Norwich Medical School told Reuters Health by email. Among children aged 8 years and over, roughly 10 to 30 percent of those in motor vehicle collisions experience PTSD, he said. The researchers studied 71 families of children ages 2 to 10 and their parents or caregivers who went to an emergency department after a motor vehicle collision in 2004 or 2005. Families had posttrauma assessments two to four weeks after the accident, six months later, and again three years later. Half the children had been riding in a car and 40 percent had been pedestrians. Almost 30 percent had no injuries, 65 percent had only soft tissue injuries and 7 percent had broken bones. Four children lost consciousness and 11 were admitted to the hospital. Most children who showed signs of stress after the accident did not go on to develop PTSD. But among the 17 percent of children who met criteria for pediatric PTSD at the three-year point, parents who were themselves experiencing difficulties often did not recognize the child’s ongoing problem. “Parents may not spot the signs of PTSD for the same reasons that parents may miss many mental health difficulties, particularly emotional disorders like anxiety and depression,” Meiser-Stedman said. “Poor mental health may often be a very private experience, and children find it difficult to describe their thoughts and feelings.” Parents with post-traumatic stress symptoms at the beginning of the study more often had children with post-traumatic stress symptoms, even three years later, researchers reported in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. AMLAPURA - An Austrian citizen, Otmar Daniel Adelsberger, 54, was reported by his wife Mariana Dangu 29, to Karangasem Police station, Monday (Nov. 7). Mariana claimed to have been persecuted by complainant after cleansing her baby with a special baby cloth on carpet on the floor. To police, Mariana said that at first her husband working as a ski teacher came home from the beach at Dangin Seme II, Karangasem. This foreigner, she said, instantly got angry after seeing her cleansing the body of her baby on the carpet using a wet baby wipes around 17:30. Mariana admitted to be surprised when seeing the grumpy behavior of the complainant, whereas he claimed to get used to cleanse the body of her three-monthold baby on the carpet. Such situation made them get involved in quarrel leading to fist fights. The complainant Austrian citizen immediately kicked the waist of Mariana. Mariana claimed to have escaped into the room to avoid the
wrath of her husband. However, the fighting continued to her room. “In my room, I slapped his cheeks,” said Mariana to police when reporting the case to the Karangasem Police. After the incident, Mariana claimed that her hair was grabbed and she was dragged out of the room. However, Mariana continued to fight. She attempted to snatch the baby from the arms of her husband. However, the complainant directly bit her hand to get injured. Thus, she immediately reported the case to Karangasem Police station. Spokesperson of Karangasem Police, I Komang Orta, said on Tuesday (Nov. 8) that domestic quarrel happened due to a misunderstanding between the complainant and Mariana. After receiving the report, police visited the home of the complainant and recorded statements of the witness. Currently, the case is being handled by Karangasem Police. DENPASAR - Sanglah Hospital will develop an integrated cancer service in 2018. In 2017, it will develop an integrated heart service first and then in 2018 will be resumed with the development of an integrated cancer service. “Then, we’ll equip it with radiotherapy service. Currently, we have only one radiotherapy facility, namely cobalt only. Then in 2018, we are going to install linacs and cobalt,” said Director of Sanglah Hospital Medical and Nursing Service, Dr. I Ketut Sudartana, recently. Development of health service, particularly cancer, continues to be done so that cancer services can actually be served optimally at Sanglah Hospital denoting reference for other hospitals in NTT and NTB. He promised to deal comprehensively at Sanglah Hospital. He explained that modality of cancer therapy consists of surgery, chemotherapy, targeting therapy and radiotherapy. Not all cancer patients can take radiotherapy because there are several types of cancers being sensitive to the administration of radiotherapy, while some others are resistant and depending on the stage. He said that administration of radiotherapy can reduce cancer staging, where it cannot be treated with single treatment, but must
be combined with chemotherapy. Such therapy can extend the life of patient, but still depends on the stage. “When the stage is found and dealt earlier, it will be better. Cancer is said to get recovered if there is no complaints after five years. Results of the investigations, CT scan and others indicate no problem, then patient can be said to have recovered,” he explained. Later on, by establishing an integrated cancer center, all cancer units will be placed at single location. The location is still being considered, but the West Bakung becomes one of the options for the location of the integrated cancer. In the meantime, Gede Kambayana, a specialist in internal medicine at rheumatology division of Sanglah Hospital said that patients with excessive immune are called autoimmunity such as lupus disease. They can be treated with immunosuppressant. This immunosuppressant is a therapy to suppress the immune system so that it is back to normal. “The drugs used for immunosuppressant are similar with that of cancer where the cancer drugs are essentially the same, namely the immunosuppressant,” he explained. Overturned boat case investigation
Without life jacket, competency of skipper explored
DENPASAR - The overturned boat case on Serangan Beach killing three people, including the skipper, is being investigated by the marine police investigation unit of Denpasar Police. Results of the preliminary investigation indicated that boat passengers did not use a lifebelt. Additionally, the investigator also studied the competency of Febrianto as a skipper. “We are still exploring whether Febrianto has a certificate or not and has experience or not. Now, we attempt to contact the boat owner,” said chief of Marine Police Unit of Denpasar Police, Ketut Suparta, with permission from Chief of Denpasar Police, Hadi Purnomo, Tuesday (Nov. 8). According to Suparta, from the testimony of five witnesses examined until Tuesday, the scene is located approximately 1 kilometer from shoreline of Serangan Island with a depth of three meters. The witness examined is resident who helped the victim, the victim from Japan, water sport owner and family of Febrianto. On the boat has been provided with four life jackets and one tube. “However, the safety equipment was not used. The skipper and his girlfriend did not wear it (life jacket—Ed). From the explanation of his family, Febrianto and Erni have not married yet. However,
Erni lived with her boyfriend so that residents thought they have got married,” he said. In fact, the boat does not belong to a water sport company, but belongs to an individual. There is cooperation between the boat owner and the water sport management at Serangan. “Boat skipper is hired by the boat owner. In such incident, the case quite complicated the investigation,” he said. Based on the results of examination to witnesses, the three victims were found dead on seabed. Due to the depth is only three meters, when being hit by waves the boat roof was badly damaged. Allegedly it hit the seabed. “We have checked the points at the scene for two times. The area is free so that marine tourism boat can sail anywhere to find congregating fish like at Benoa Bay,” said the former Badung Police Narcotics Investigation Unit. So far, examination of the witnesses is still ongoing,” he said. Previously, the glass bottom boat with skipper Febrianto, 24, overturned after being hit by waves on Serangan Beach, Monday (Nov. 7). The boat was carrying four Japanese tourists and Erni Juliana Ines, 21, girlfriend of Febrianto. As a result of the incident, Febrianto and his girlfriend and Nakazawa, 71, from Japan were killed. While other passengers survived. The incident happened around 10:30. The death toll, Nakazawa, stayed at Hotel Legian Village, while Febrianto and her boyfriend stayed at Serangan. Initially, continued Suparta, the boat was carrying four Japanese tourists namely Nakazawa, Ito Hirokazu, Kobhakashi and Mizuno Haruo. UK’s Prince Harry hits out at media “harassment” of new U.S. girlfriend
LONDON - Britain’s Prince Harry issued a rare statement on Tuesday criticising the media for intruding into the private life of his American girlfriend, saying the press had subjected her to “a wave of abuse and harassment”.
British newspapers have been running daily stories about Meghan Markle since it emerged at the end of October that the 35-year-old actress had been “secretly” dating the prince, 32, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth, for several months. Harry and his elder brother Prince William, the second in line to the throne, have had a strained relationship with the press ever since their mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997 while being chased by paparazzi on motorbikes. However, the statement from his communications secretary, which officially confirmed Harry and Markle’s relationship for the first time, contained an unusually strong condemnation of the press. “He has rarely taken formal action on the very regular publication of fictional stories that are written about him and he has worked hard to develop a professional relationship with the media,” the statement said. “But the past week has seen a line crossed. While the billionaire businessman’s triumph was welcomed in some countries, others saw it as a big shock, as governments will now have to deal with a man who has cozied up to Russian President Vladimir Putin, told NATO allies they would have to pay for their own protection and vowed to make the Mexican government pay for a multibillion-dollar border wall. Leaders weren’t sure what to expect after a U.S. campaign in which Trump upended foreign policy orthodoxy on numerous fronts. Trump’s win was particularly startling in Mexico, where his remarks calling Mexican immigrants criminals and “rapists” were a deep insult to national pride. Financial analysts have predicted a Trump win would threaten billions of dollars in cross-border trade, and government officials say they have drawn up a contingency plan for such a scenario, though without
releasing details. “It’s DEFCON 2,” Mexican analyst Alejandro Hope said. “Probably something as close to a national emergency as Mexico has faced in many decades.” The impact of his unexpected electoral triumph is also being felt strongly in the volatile Middle East, where multiple crises are unfolding. Iran’s foreign minister said the United States must respect the commitments it made as part of last year’s historic nuclear deal. Trump had criticized the accord during the campaign and said he would try to renegotiate it. Mohammad Javad Zarif spoke Wednesday during a visit to Romania after Trump’s win was clear. The foreign minister said that it’s important “that whoever is elected president of America should fully understand current realities of the world and conform their policies with those realities.”

Netanyahu has said he is willing to negotiate a border deal, but has retracted offers made by his predecessors while pressing ahead with Jewish settlement expansion on war-won land. Abadi congratulated Trump, saying he’s looking forward to continued support in his country’s fight against the Islamic State group. In a statement on his website, al-Abadi said he hopes the “world and the United States will continue to support Iraq in fighting terrorism.” He says terrorism doesn’t threaten Iraq alone, but the whole world.
