The 19th ASEAN Summit is in front of our eyes as the at least 20 nation heads met coming Tuesday (15/11) to Sunday (20/11), Bali has been chosen to host and all preparation is being done including medics for health. Health Team Coordinator of the summit, dr. IGB Ken Wirasandhi, accompanied by Field Coordinator dr. Kadek Naryantha last Tuesday (8/11) stated there have been 152 medical workers prepared for this event which will be divided to 12 security posts with facilities ambulance, radioactive and others all conducted from the centre.

From the 12 posts, ambulances will be placed on 8 posts nearby the nation leaders staying places where first to third ring placed at Nusa Dua Conention Centre also an evacuation route has been set. “For the ambulance evacuation it will be by land using ambulance and air by helicopter. Sanglah hospital also has prepared to receive patients by air,” Ken explained.

Sanglah Hospital itself besides preparing a helicopter landing place, it also prepared six rooms for patients, three at intensive and three at Wing Amerta. There will be also specialists and anaesthetists, lab diagnose equipments also prepared. If not all can be taken care in Bali, then there’s a possibility it has to be sent overseas. (san)

A number of Singaraja City drainage have been stuck since the rainy season started as during the dry season many people still littered in the drains. During the heavy rain, the rubbishes then come up to the roads.

From the data compiled by Public Works Agency Buleleng, last Tuesday (8/11) stated the drainage length at Singaraja period 20012010 reached 7,799.04 meters and seemed to be more as the city developed. The sensitive spots to

The Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali, I Gede Suarsa, said that 75 percent of the unemployed population in Bali was predominantly found in urban areas. A total of 40,790 people were unemployed today and they lived in urban areas, whereas in rural areas only amounted to 11,600 people. “Denpasar Municipality has the largest percentage of unemployment reaching 32.15 percent. Transmigration is not solution to alleviate poverty Denpasar (Bali Post)—

Transmigration program also denoting a national program is not considered an effective solution to reduce the poverty rate especially in Bali. If local government of Bali and Balinese people are more creative, in truth there are much valuable potential in Bali which can be discovered and developed to create new job opportunities in order to improve the welfare of Balinese people. Even, the agricultural observers from Udayana University, Dr. Gusti Ngurah Alit Susanta Wirya and I Putu Sudiarta, PhD, assessed that transmigration program could be an irony for Bali. On the one hand, Balinese people thronged to ‘escape’ from their homeland in order to improve their life welfare. But on the other hand, the waves of migrant invasion to Bali were unstoppable to work on the potentials that were untouched by Balinese people. “This condition is really very ironic. Balinese people themselves take transmigration program, but on the other side, the waves of migrants to Bali are unstoppable,� said Alit Susanta Wirya and Sudiarta to Bali Post, Tuesday (Nov 8).

According to both young academicians, they did not believe if the transmigration program was capable of alleviating the poverty in Bali. As a matter of fact, there are potentials in informal sector that have not been worked on optimally by Balinese people to improve their welfare.

As abandoned, the potential in the informal sector is then taken and developed by those regional migrants. Balinese people are frustrated and hopeless so they ultimately choose transmigration in the hope of improving their standard of living in the new location,� said Alit Susanta Wirya.

ROME - Italy looks set for lengthy political uncertainty after Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s pledge to resign, with his center-right party calling for elections and the main opposition for a national unity government.

After failing to secure the majority in a vote in the lower house, Berlusconi said he would quit as soon as parliament passed budget reforms urged by European partners to help Italy stave off a debt crisis that is threatening the euro zone.

“We no longer have the majority we believed we had so we need to recognize this and concern ourselves with what is happening on markets...we need to show markets we are serious,” Berlusconi told Italian television by telephone.

Votes to pass the reforms in both houses of parliament are likely this month, and opposition leaders may try to bring this forward in order to end as soon as possible the flamboyant billionaire media tycoon’s 17-year dominance of Italy.

Worries about the Berlusconi government’s ability to implement reforms to boost Italy’s sluggish growth and cut its huge debt have helped fuel a rise in Italy’s borrowing costs to unsustainable levels, weighing on the euro and stock markets.

Sarkozy overheard to Obama: Netanyahu is a liar Associated Press Writer

PARIS — The French president’s overheard remark to President Barack Obama that Israel’s prime minister is a “liar” laid bare escalating international frustration at deadlocked peace efforts — and left all three world leaders looking blemished. Obama, heard through an interpreter, responded, “I have to work with him every day.”

Some Israelis felt French President Nicolas Sarkozy uttered out loud what many think in private about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Others were shocked, and embarrassed.

Fragments of a conversation between Sarkozy and Obama were overheard by reporters last week at the Group of 20 summit in southern France, via headsets that were to be used for simultaneous translation of an upcoming news conference.

Sarkozy’s remarks were especially harsh for a man who has labored to improve French relations with Israel while also using France’s traditional ties to Arab countries to encourage peace talks — and whose maternal grandfather was Jewish.

It’s an awkward moment for Obama, who was already seen as cool to Netanyahu but is Israel’s main international ally.

Several French-speaking journalists, including one from The Associated Press, overheard the conversation but did not initially report it because Sarkozy’s office had asked the journalists not to turn on the headsets until the news conference began. The comments were deemed private under French media traditions.

French journalists rarely report on public figures’ private lives, for

example, and when they report behindthe-scenes conversations involving top politicians, they almost never cite the source of the information.

However, a French website that analyzes media coverage of current affairs, Arret sur images, on Tuesday reported fragments of the Sarkozy-Obama con-

versation.

Sarkozy’s office would not comment Tuesday on the remarks, or on France’s relations with Israel. The White House and Netanyahu’s spokesman also said they had no comment.

In the remarks Thursday in Cannes, Sarkozy said: “Netanyahu, I can’t stand him. He’s a liar.”

Obama, whose remarks were heard via a French translation, was not heard objecting to Sarkozy’s characterization of Netanyahu. According to the French interpreter, Obama responded, “You are sick of him, but I have to work with him every day.”

The Philippine government on Tuesday rejected an appeal from former president Gloria Arroyo to travel abroad for medical treatment, saying she may be trying to avoid a graft probe.

Arroyo, 64, had asked the government to allow her to head overseas for expert help on what she said was a rare bone disease, after unsuccessful operations on her spine in Manila this year.

But Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said Arroyo could be adequately treated in the Philippines and that there were concerns she might not return if she was eventually charged with graft.

“We see no immediate necessity

for her to leave and therefore affect the progress of ongoing preliminary (corruption) investigation proceedings,” de Lima told reporters.

Arroyo’s lawyer, Raul Lambino said in an interview with DZMM radio that de Lima’s decision “is purely tyrannical”.

Arroyo had requested to go to Singapore, Germany and several other countries to seek medical treatment.

De Lima said she was suspicious that many of the countries Arroyo wanted to visit had no extradition treaty with the Philippines.

“I can’t avoid being concerned that five of these countries have no existing extradition treaties with us, and there lies the risk, something I can’t afford to take,” she said.

Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land.

Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

BBC: Murdoch tabloid spied on Prince William Associated Press Writer

LONDON — A private investigator working for Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World conducted surveillance on Prince William as well of dozens of politicians and celebrities, the BBC reported Tuesday.

The broadcaster said private eye Derek Webb spied on the prince in 2006 while William was in Gloucestershire, western England, where his father Prince Charles has a country home.

Webb told the BBC that royal protection officers “had no idea� about the surveillance.

The newspaper’s parent company, News International, said it was “not able to make any comment around the specific work carried out by Derek Webb.�

On Monday the firm acknowledged that it had spied on two lawyers who represent alleged victims of phone hacking by the

News of the World.

News International said the surveillance had not been illegal but was “deeply inappropriate.�

William’s office declined to comment on security matters. The tabloids have long had an intense interest in his private life, particularly during his bachelor years.

The BBC said Webb worked for the newspaper for eight years until it was shut down in July and was paid to follow more than 100 people, most of them celebrities and politicians.

It said the targets included Angelina Jolie, Prince Harry’s former girlfriend Chelsy Davy, then-

HAVANA - Social media moved into a new realm in technologically backward Cuba Tuesday when Cuban President Raul Castro’s controversial daughter Mariela began tweeting and quickly got into the Twitter equivalent of a shouting match with dissident blogger Yoani Sanchez.

Mariela Castro called Sanchez and her compatriots “despicable parasites� in a brief exchange that may have been the first direct confrontation, verbal or otherwise, between dissidents and a member of the Castro family after years of mutual animosity.

Sanchez, who regularly criticizes the lack of freedoms in communist Cuba in her internationally known “Generation Y� blog, touched off the dispute by sending tweets that welcomed Mariela Castro to the “plurality of Twitter� where “no one can shut me up, deny me permission to travel or block entrance.� “When will we Cubans be able to come out of other closets?� she asked, alluding to Mariela Castro’s championing of gay rights as head of Cuba’s National Center for Sex Education. “Tolerance is total or is it not?� Sanchez tweeted.

Ex-Citibank manager on trial for Indonesia fraud Agence France-Presse

JAKARTA - A former senior executive of Citibank Indonesia went on trial Tuesday for bank fraud and allegedly embezzling $5 million from customers’ accounts, crimes which carry a 15-year jail term.

Inong Malinda Dee, 49, allegedly embezzled the money from wealthy customers’ savings accounts between 2007 and February this year when she was a premium client manager at the bank.

“The defendant has proceeded with transfers of money from cus-

tomers’ savings without their consent at least 117 times,” prosecutor Tatang Sutarna told South Jakarta district court.

Dee, who was dismissed from her post in June, also allegedly laundered the stolen money through other bank accounts to try to cover

her tracks, he said.

“The defendant could be jailed up to 15 years jail if proven guilty of violation of bank procedures and money laundering,” the prosecutor added.

Indonesia’s central bank in May temporarily barred Citibank from opening new branches or issuing new credit cards due to the alleged misconduct in the local subsidiary of the US lender.

The trial will resume next week.

JAKARTA - Indonesia may be affected by the second round of the European Union debt crisis because its export destinations are highly diversified, according to World Bank Managing Director Sri Mulyani.

Speaking after a meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Presidential Office here Tuesday, Sri Mulyani said Indonesia might be impacted by the European crisis when the turmoil was in its second period.

Sri Mulyani said Indonesia could be affected by the financial crisis in Europe through the trade zone because the country`s export destinations were highly diversified.

“Indonesia will be affected in the turmoil`s second round, with the impact coming down from other Asian countries,” she said.

According to Sri Mulyani, the impact of the European Union`s financial crisis would spread to other countries in different parts of the world through multiple pathways, such as trade, capital flows and remittances.

But Indonesia would not feel the impact of the European crisis through the flow of remittances.

Still Indonesia must be careful in facing the risks that arise from capital in and outflows because they were related to risk perceptions that could cause turmoil.

“This is more than just sentiment, and it should really be main-

tained. The sentiment is associated with risk perceptions, so volatility or turbulence in capital in and outflows become very important,” she said.

Indonesia still need to carefully manage its budget because the European crisis was still growing and creating uncertainties at the global level, according to Sri Mulyani.

“We must remain cautious, perhaps that is the most important thing to do,” she said.

Sri Mulyani also said the current economic growth forecasts on developed countries were to be corrected again. Growth in developed countries was expected to decline by 0.6 percent while the Asian region would also be affected through trade.

JAKARTA - Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said ASEAN is playing a crucial role in spurring global economic growth as the US and European sovereign debt crises have led to global economic uncertainties.

“The global economy has been in turmoil over the past few months, marked with uncertainties. But ASEAN proves it has stable and strong growth,” he said at an ASEAN Finance Ministers` Investor Seminar (AFMIS) here on Tuesday.

He said developing countries played a great role in maintaining the global economic growth and ASEAN, with a population of around 600 million, could serve as one of the world economy-

supporting regions.

“Having strategic position and enjoying high investment inflows ASEAN plays a great role in encouraging the global growth,” he said.

In this connection, to encourage the integration of ASEAN member states, they needed to enhance cooperation particularly in the financial sector, infrastructure financing and capital market.

To support infrastructure development, he said ASEAN member states set up an ASEAN Infrastructure Fund (AIF) in September 2011 as part of their commitment to reduce infrastructure development disparities among them.

“The total surety fund for the AIF is US$4 billion until 2020 with 70 percent of it originating

from the Asian Development Bank.

Hopefully, the figure will increase to US$13 billion,” he said.

Given the strong commitment, coupled with a momentum to increase investment growth, he expressed hope that the surety fund could ease the risk of the private sector wishing to get involved in the infrastructure development.

“The private sector plays a very important role in infrastructure development under a governmentprivate financing scheme and the surety fund is expected to mitigate the impact of the crisis,” he said.

The awards were presented in a ceremony led by the President and attended by Vice President Boediono, cabinet ministers, and heads of state institutions ahead of the commemoration of National Heroes` Day on November 10.

The awards were received by the recipients` next of kin.

As a tradition ahead of e Heroes` Day the head of state on behalf of the government awards hero titles and also tokens of appreciation to figures who had contributed a lot to the country in various fields, presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said.

He said national heroes in the context of the Unitary State of Indonesia could also be considered portraits in a national family album. He said those who would receive the titles were proposed by the people in their birth places.

“They are part of the process onf strengthening national integrity,” he said.

As an example he referred to Idham Cholid. The Nahdlatul Ulama Islamic organization figure born on August 27, 1922 in South Kalimantan has been considered having done a lot to the nation.

The secretary of the Directorate General of Social Empowerment of the ministry of social affairs that deals with nomination of hero title recipients, Hartono Laras, said his office had proposed 12 names to the President through the Council of Titles, Tokens of Appreciation and Service.

“The number then narrowed to 12 and finally the Council determined seven of them as national heroes,” he said.

“National Hero Titles are given to those who have given extraordinary services during their lifetime,” he said.

PREPARATION: Wipe the duck dry and set aside. Combine all ingredients except banana leafs in a bowl and mix well. Rub the duck outside with this mixture and fill the center of the duck with the remainder.

Close open duck with satay skewer. Wrap in several layers of banana leaves, greaseproof paper or foil and steam for 50 minutes. Transfer duck to a moderate oven and bake at 180o C (350o F) for 30 minutes.

Remove banana leaves, cut duck meat up in small pieces and serve with stuffing. When cooked, the meat should be so tender that it falls off the bones.

BEIJING — The head of the International Monetary Fund warned Wednesday the global economy faces the risk of a “lost decade� of little or no growth and Asia should be on guard to deal with a downturn.

WASHINGTON - Fannie Mae, the biggest source of money for U.S. home loans, on Tuesday said it needed a further $7.8 billion in federal aid to stay afloat as a shaky housing market widened its third-quarter loss to $5.1 billion.

The government-controlled firm also attributed the deeper cash drain to losses on derivatives used to hedge its exposure to interest-rate swings and on expenses related to home loans made prior to the 2008 financial collapse. In the year-earlier quarter it had a loss of a $1.3 billion.

Fannie Mae has now drawn $112.6 billion in bailout funds from the Treasury Department since being seized by the government in 2008 as mortgage losses mounted, and it has returned $17.2 billion to taxpayers in the form of dividends. “There is certainly a lot of pre-2009 loans that we need to work through and that is certainly driving the credit losses you saw in this quarter and over the last several years,� Fannie Mae Chief Financial Officer Susan McFarland told Reuters.

She said the company was “working to reduce losses� on those legacy loans and “limit taxpayer exposure.�

The mortgage finance company and its smaller rival Freddie Mac were taken over during the financial crisis as losses on subprime mortgages threatened insolvency.

Given the crucial role the two play in U.S. housing finance, owning or guaranteeing about half of all mortgages, the government has pledged unlimited funds to keep the firms afloat through the end of 2012. Combined, they have cost taxpayers around $169 billion.

The plan to put them into a government conservatorship was meant to be temporary, although it is likely to be years before a long-term replacement structure takes shape. Both the Obama administration and Congress want to eventually wind them down.

Their regulator estimates that the bailout could reach about $193 billion through 2014, with dividend payments taken into account.

Fannie Mae said credit losses, which include expenses related to the foreclosed properties it holds on its books as well as on its derivatives, increased in the third quarter to $4.5 billion from $3.9 billion in the second quarter.

Freddie Mac, the second-largest source of U.S. mortgage finance, said last week it lost $4.4 billion in the third quarter and needed to borrow an extra $6 billion from the federal government.

Fannie Mae has now reported losses in 16 of the last 17 quarters. It reported a profit of $73 million in the fourth quarter of last year, but that was largely attributed to a one-time payment from Bank of America.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were created by Congress to encourage homeownership. They buy mortgages from lenders and repackage them as securities for investors, with a guarantee, to ensure a steady source of home loan funds.

The two firms, along with the Federal Housing Administration, now back about nine out of 10 new home loans.

Toyota recalls 550,000 cars for steering issue Associated Press

TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it is recalling about 550,000 vehicles worldwide — mostly in the United States — for problems that could make it harder to steer.

The recall affects 447,000 vehicles in NorthAmerica, as well as 38,000 in Japan and another 25,000 in Australia and New Zealand, saidToyota spokesman Dion Corbett. In Europe some 14,000 vehicles are being recalled along with 10,000 in the Middle East and 14,000 in Asia outside Japan.

There have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the problems, Corbett said.

Toyota’s reputation has taken a hit over the last two years due to a string of huge recalls that have ballooned to 14 million vehicles over that time, including millions recalled last year for acceleration problems. It faces damage lawsuits and lingering doubts in the U.S. about whether it had been transparent enough about the recall woes.

Japan’s largest automaker has been trying to communicate better with customers and empower regional operations outside Japan to make safety decisions.

“Harry Potter” is top People’s Choice nominee Reuters

LOS ANGELES - Nominations for the annual People’s Choice Awards were announced on Tuesday, with popular films like the final “Harry Potter” and the latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” and their actors among nominees. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” will compete for favorite movie, alongside “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” “The Help” and “Bridesmaids.”

The final “Harry Potter” film in the long-running series was the most-nominated movie of all, with nine nods. Daniel Radcliffe, who plays British boy wizard Potter, and Johnny Depp, Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates” films, will compete for favorite movie actor, along with “Twilight” heartthrob Robert Pattinson, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

Heavy D dies at 44 Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES — Heavy D, the self-proclaimed “overweight lover” of hip-hop who became one of rap’s top hit-makers with wit, humor and a positive vibe, has died. He was 44. Lt. Mark Rosen of the Beverly Hills police said Heavy D died in a Los Angeles hospital Tuesday after collapsing at his condominium building.

Rosen said Beverly Hills police officers were dispatched to Heavy D’s condominium building Tuesday morning after receiving a report of an unconscious person laying on the walkway of a building.

They found Heavy D was conscious and communicative but had difficulty breathing and was transported to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he later died.

Rosen said Beverly Hills detectives found no signs of foul play and believe his death is medically related. He said Heavy D “was returning home from shopping. He experienced difficulty breathing while walking into his condominium building. He was being assisted up to his apartment by building personnel when he collapsed in an exterior hallway.” The last tweet from Heavy D posted Tuesday morning read, “BE INSPIRED!”

Like all industry leaders, the Call of Duty franchise has become a victim of its own success. The people that like the series swear by it, while those that dislike it tend to righteously hate it. The thing with the Call of Duty games is that you can criticize them for the style and dislike the nature of the games, but you can’t really claim that the games are bad or technically flawed. Not that they are perfect, but they are polished.

It is fair to criticize things like the series increasing stagnation and the lack of risks the developers take, but the franchise is where it is because Activision releases quality games stemming from the best possible resources available

in the gaming industry today.

Activision has too much at stake to let the series slide. The games could slide into tedium and mediocrity, but they will still retain a sense of technical proficiency at the very least.

And because the series takes very few risks, they won’t likely win over any people that aren’t already converts. The core fans may not be blown away either, but they are typically satisfied. In the case of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Infinity Ward (and company) did a good job of examining what has worked, and tweaking the things that didn’t, even with all the hoopla stemming from the behind-the-scenes telenovela sur-

rounding the ousting of the former IW heads. But that’s another story for another day. Perhaps the loss of West and Zampella hampered the creativity a bit, but there is no obvious loss of quality.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 does what it needs to do, and should satiate fans without alienating any. The campaign is on par with the last Modern Warfare story (take that for what you will), while the multiplayer will likely suck the life from gamers for months to come—right up until the next Call of Duty in 2012. It doesn’t take any risks, but when you have one of the most successful franchises of all time, you really don’t have to.

A French zoo has placed its white rhinos under video surveillance fearing poachers could kill them for their horns which can fetch hundreds of thousands of euros on the black market. The owner of the Thoiry zoo and wildlife park west of Paris took the measure following a spate of rhino horn thefts from zoos and museums around Europe, broadening security measures already in place for small primates.

“We have extended the surveillance that we initiated for our small monkeys, which were regularly stolen and sold illegally, to the white rhinos that weigh 2.5 tonnes,” zoo owner Paul de la Panouse told AFP. “Their enclosures are under surveillance by cameras and staff who make regular rounds.”

Rhinos are often poached for their horns, made of keratin and sold on the black market for ornamental or medicinal purposes, particularly in Asia. Horns can fetch between 25,000 and 200,000 euros depending on their size.

Panouse said that thieves had already stolen rhino horns that had been on display for educational purposes from the Sigean wildlife park in the south west of the country. “Today I’m worried for the living rhinos,” Panouse said.

“It’s absurd to kill these animals for their horns that some people think might treat illnesses like cancer or impotence,” he said. “The horn is only made of a mass of hair and eating it is the same as eating your nails.”

By 2090, an additional 40 to 77 million people could be at risk of exposure to the disease, the study concludes. Currently 75 million people live within its range.

The scientists base the estimate on how the tsetse and the Trypanosoma parasite it carries are likely to respond to rising temperatures in coming decades. At present, 70,000 cases of sleeping sickness, also called trypanosomiasis, occur each year in eastern, central and western Africa, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The parasite is transmitted from cattle to humans by the tsetse when it takes a blood meal. It is fatal without treatment, causing convulsions and serious sleep disturbance that lead to coma and death.

Scientists led by Sean Moore of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) carried out a computer simulation in line with two scenarios laid out by UN climatologists in 2007, predicting warming of 1.1-5.4 degrees Celsius (2.0-9.7 degrees Fahrenheit) depending on carbon emissions. The team looked at the strain of parasite that is prevalent in East Africa and the two tsetse species which carry it.

Outbreaks of the disease can occur when mean temperatures are between 20.7 C to 26.1 C (69.25 F to 79 F), they found.

Ferrari to use revised front wing in Abu Dhabi Ferrari will bring a modified version of its Red Bull Racing-style front wing to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, on the back of the bizarre problems that Felipe Massa encountered in India recently.

Massa’s front wing experienced extreme flapping at the end of the long straight at the Buddh International Circuit throughout the Indian GP weekend - prompting talk that Ferrari’s experiment to get the wing legally flexing at high-speed had not been successful.

However, technical director Pat Fry revealed on Tuesday that Massa’s wing problems had more to do with quality control issues than any design concept – which is why an updated version of the wing will be used by the Brazilian driver and team-mate Fernando Alonso at the Yas Marina circuit this weekend.

Ferrari has openly admitted that, with some of Red Bull Racing’s form being attributed to its front wing concept, it too is focusing current efforts on perfecting this area of its car design.

Fry told the official Ferrari website: “I think the biggest addition we’ve made in performance terms in recent races is the new front wing which we first tried in Korea. We then ran it again on both cars in India.

“It is a very interesting development for us, as it does change the characteristics of the car and getting to understand how to get the most out of it is certainly an interesting challenge and in the short term it has helped our performance.

“We had some quality issue on one of the wings used in India but this solution will be in Abu Dhabi again, although after watching its behaviour at the last race, much work has been done to modify certain aspects of it before both drivers will try it this coming weekend.”

Ferrari is returning to

Abu Dhabi this weekend for the first time since it lost the world championship there last year.

Fry believes that the overtaking problems that cost Alonso his shot at the title in 2010 will not be an issue this time around, because of the use of two DRS zones.

“Last year, as we found to our cost, overtaking was very difficult at this circuit,” he explained. “However, we have seen a big change this year thanks to several factors including the DRS. “In some cases, it was found that the DRS zones were not long enough and this will no doubt be adjusted for next year, while at other tracks, it was relatively simple to overtake another car. So I’m sure that, with two DRS zone available, it will be easier this weekend than in 2010,

but until we get to the track it is hard to say exactly how straightforward it will be.

“We will keep on pushing as hard as we can. In terms of what we can expect for this weekend, it will be similar to the last few races, which means that if we put everything together perfectly, as we did in India with Fernando we should have a reasonable chance of getting onto the podium.”

Alvaro Bautista signs for Gresini

Alvaro Bautista will ride for Gresini Honda in testing at Valencia today (Wednesday) having been confirmed as the team’s rider for 2012.

The 26-year-old Spaniard has switched teams from Suzuki and is the first rider to be confirmed

by Gresini for 2012, following the death of Marco Simoncelli and Hiroshi Aoyama’s switch to World Superbikes.

“I am particularly satisfied that Alvaro Bautista will ride a Honda RC213V in the colours of Team San Carlo Honda Gresini next year,” said team principal Fausto Gresini. “He is a very fast rider and I also hold him in high regard for his personality and pleasant nature.
