THE HAGUE — The government will pay compensation and apologize to relatives of men killed by Dutch troops in a notorious 1947 massacre of villagers during Indonesia’s bitter struggle for independence, their lawyer said Monday. Dutch state to apologize for Indonesia massacre “I hope it helps the relatives find closure for this exceptionally difficult episode in their lives and look to the future,” Rosenthal said. The Dutch ambassador to Indonesia, Tjeerd de Zwaan, will offer the apology during the annual commemoration of the massacre in the village, now called Balongsari, on Dec. 9. The tourism of Indonesia stays prospective and in terms of price it is increasingly competitive. Such reality can be made an effective strategy in the slowing down of the global economic conditions today. “Our competitiveness in the matter of price is relatively competitive as we apply the concept ‘value for money,’ if we do not call it cheap,� said Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sapta Nirwandar, after the closing of the National Conference on Tourism in Jakarta (Dec 6). In terms of price, Sapta said, many things in Indonesia were accessible by tourists from any countries. Sapta expected such realities could become one of the attractions and make the Indonesian tourism more prospective amid the slowing down of the world’s economic conditions. “So, though in the crisis, tourists coming to Indonesia can still do shopping despite their expenditure may decline,� he said. His party targeted the number of tourist visit to Indonesia in 2012 could reach eight million until this yearend with the revenue of foreign exchange worth USD 8.98 billion. That figure increased if compared to the target in 2011 amounting to 7.7 million tourists compared to 2011 with the foreign exchange earnings worth USD 8.47 billion.
He projected the growth of tourism sector in 2012 would reach 7.35 percent compared to the previous year. This year, the estimation of tourism sector would grow by 6.42 percent. “We will concern in the market of ASEAN and Asia including China, South Korea and Taiwan. Similarly, we will also aim other markets like Australia and Middle East,� he said. Meanwhile, the classical problem related to low frequency of direct flights to Indonesia, Sapta said that government would work together with private sector chiefly the airline companies to expand their point-to-point routes to potential tourist market becoming the focusing country. “One of them is that government will invite Lion Air to open point-to-point flight service to a number of countries,� he said. The wine produced in Buleleng seems to receive special attention from thirty ambassadors from the Western Europe who made a visit to Buleleng on Tuesday (Dec 6). They hoped the wine produced from the native grapes to Buleleng could be produced massively so that it could be exported to Europe. In the visit, a number of ambassadors looked to pay great attention to local bottled wine exhibited in the office lobby of the Buleleng Regent. Some of them seemed to notice the wine seriously and then purchased it. Director of Western Europe, Dewa Made Juniarta, said the visit was intended to introduce the potential of Buleleng to European countries. By seeing the existing potential in Buleleng, his party promised to bridge the investment in an effort to develop the products of agriculture and plantation of Buleleng. “Some European countries expressed
their commitment to make direct cooperation. Greek Ambassador, for instance, was interested in developing the wine production, not just purchasing but also helping Buleleng develop the production itself,� he said. The Regent of Buleleng, Putu Bagiada, when welcoming the ambassadors said that some sectors of the infrastructure and proceeds of the plantation would be developed more seriously, including the wine of grapes. In addition, another potential enthused by the group of West European ambassadors in the visit was the development of Celukan Bawang Harbor in Gerokgak Subdistrict. Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Meanwhile, in the middle courtyard sat two shrines namely the guardian shrine and gamelan pavilion. In the temple inscription compiled by Made Djirna and Ketut Wijaya Kusuma, Pan Jumu, Dibia Adnyana, Nengah Cepug, Made Candera, Sastera, Cariana, Made Ratip and Ketut Jena is mentioned that Arya Pemcut was from Majapahit (East Java). He was born by the descendant of Prince Linga Sampurna from the marriage of Dalem Manguri (Keling Kingdom) marrying the daughter of Empu Bharadah named Empu Wathi. Prince Linga Sampurna was also known as theAryan Ulung or Luwih serving as a coachman and handling the horse care. Prince Linga Sampurna surrendered along with horse and chariot to the Majapahit Kingdom during the reign of Sri Kala Gemet. On that account, since that time he was appointed the charioteer of Majapahit Kingdom. Prince Linga Sampurna had four sons named Aryan Pemuat placed by the king to Madura,Arya Padengen in Pasuruan, Sayu Guna Wathi in Sumbawa and Arya Pemcut in Bali. The King Dalem Ketut awarded a chariot gift and cemetery south of Gelgel which is now named Dalem Saluang Temple. Even, Arya Pemcut was given a region by the king consisting
of the Tista, Culik, Timbrah, Perasi, Tumbu, Seraya, Tulamben, Tianyar, Ponjok Batu, Penuktukan, Banyuatis, Jembrana, Kekeran, Pesanggrahan and Kesiman. After the death of Arya Pemcut, the position of royal charioteer was handed over to his only son, Arya Panguregan. The skill to serve as royal charioteer was undertaken until the reign of Dalem Waturenggong. Later on, the name Arya Panguregan was immortalized for the name of Pemeregan Temple. He had two sons namely Aryan Panguregan (as his father’s name) and Arya Pemcut (as his grandfather’s name). Relocation of the kingdom from Suecapura, Gelgel to Semarapura also caused his descendants to spread, but it remained to base at the Dalem Pemeregan Temple. Natural disaster of volcanic eruption also caused his descendants to spread to Manduang, Selisihan, Buleleng, Jembrana, Karangasem, Kesiman, Rangkan and Sukawati. From Kesiman, it spread to Tegalwangi Sesetan, Pecatu well as other areas. In the Dalem Pameregan Temple is kept the royal chariot. INGREDIENTS: 6 tbsp oil 6 shallots, peeled, halves length wise and sliced 6 cloves garlic, peeled and sliced 200 gr (6 ½ oz) chicken meat, sliced 150 gr (5 oz) medium size shrimp, peeled ¼ small white cabbage, shredded 4 eggs, beaten 2 tbsp sambal tomat 700 gr (1 ½ lb) cold cooked rice 2 tsp salt 1 tsp sliced bird’s eye chilies 2 tbsp fried shallot PREPARATION: 1. Heat vegetable oil in wok or heavy fry pan until very hot. 2. Add shallots and garlic and fry for 1 minute until golden yellow. 3. Add chicken and shrimp and fry for 1 minute, and then add cabbage and fry for 1 minute. Add sambal and mix well. 4. Add eggs and continuously stir for 30 seconds before adding rice and salt. Increase to very high heat and fry for 3 more minute, stir continuously. 5. Add chilies, mix well and serve immediately, garnished with fried shallots. Note: Throughout Bali there are as many different ways of preparing Nasi Goreng as there are ingredients of chef’s.

Poof! Harry Potter park to appear in Hollywood Associated Press Writer
LOS ANGELES — Universal Studios will spend several hundred million dollars to build a Harry Potter attraction inside its existing Hollywood theme park in hopes of mimicking the success of a similar park in Orlando, Florida. Executives announced the project Tuesday with much fanfare, spraying confetti and hoisting mugs of the wizardly brew butterbeer. The attraction, based on the Warner Bros. movies about the boy wizard in J.K. Rowling’s novels, will create more than 1,000 jobs at Universal and even more indirectly from an expected boost in tourism, ofďŹ cials said. At the same time, Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter will get an expansion. Since the Harry Potter attraction opened in Florida in June of last year, company executives have said attendance has jumped by about 50 percent, but did not give raw ďŹ gures. “It was a game changer for us and frankly for Orlando,â€? Universal Studios president Ron Meyer told reporters after an announcement at the Universal Studios Hollywood. “The expansion in Orlando will make it that much more of a must-see, and we’ll have the same experience here.â€? CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Scientists have found the biggest black holes known to exist — each one 10 billion times the mass of our sun. A team led by astronomers at the University of California, Berkeley, discovered the two gigantic black holes in clusters of elliptical galaxies more than 300 million light years away. That’s relatively close on the galactic scale. “They are monstrous,â€? Berkeley astrophysicist Chung-Pei Ma told reporters. “We did not expect to ďŹ nd such massive black holes because they are more massive than indicated by their galaxy properties. They’re kind of extraordinary.â€? The previous black hole record-holder is as large as 6 billion suns. In research released Monday by the journal Nature, the scientists suggest these black holes may be the leftovers of quasars that crammed the early universe. They are similar in mass to young quasars, they said, and have been well hidden until now. The scientists used
ground-based telescopes as well as the Hubble Space Telescope and Texas supercomputers, observing stars near the black holes and measuring the stellar velocities to uncover these vast, invisible regions. Black holes are objects so dense that nothing, not even light, can escape. Some are formed by the collapse of a supersize star. It’s uncertain how these two newly discovered whoppers originated, said Nicholas McConnell, a Berkeley graduate student who is the study’s lead author. To be so massive now means they must have grown considerably since their formation, he said.

Quasars are some of the most energized and distant of galactic centers. The researchers said their ďŹ ndings suggest differences in the way black holes grow, depending on the size of the galaxy. Ma speculates these two black holes remained hidden for so long because they are living in quiet retirement — much quieter and more boring than their boisterous youth powering quasars billions of years ago. “For an astronomer, finding these insatiable black holes is like ďŹ nally encountering people nine feet tall whose great height had only been inferred from fossilized bones. Babies born as early as 23 weeks showed better survival rates and less brain damage if their mothers were given steroids in the days preceding their birth, a US study said Tuesday. The research in the December 7 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that preterm babies may beneďŹ t sooner than thought from the boost in lung power and organ growth they get from exposure to steroids. Until now, little was known about the efďŹ cacy of giving a pregnant woman steroids for a fetus less than 24 weeks old, and some were worried it could raise the risk of infection in the mother. Current guidelines, published in 1995, recommend a two-shot regimen for mothers who go into preterm labor when the fetus is between 24 and 34 weeks of age. A normal full-term pregnancy is between 37 and 42 weeks. However, even though premature babies
exposed to steroids were twice as likely to survive as those who were not, the researchers cautioned that overall survival still remained relatively low, at 36 percent. To determine if steroids could help the youngest babies survive after being born on the edge of viability, doctor Waldemar Carlo of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and colleagues looked back at records between 1993 and 2009 at 23 academic perinatal centers in the United States. Data included babies born between 401 grams (14.1 ounces) and 1,000 grams (35.3 ounces) at 22 to 25 weeks’ gestation. Among babies born at 23 weeks who were exposed to steroids, 83 percent either died or had brain development problems by age 18-22 months. Ninety percent of those who weren’t given steroids either died or showed brain damage. The same advantages were not seen at a statistically signiďŹ cant level in babies aged 22 weeks who were exposed to steroids.

Williams leave blank spaces on entry list Reuters
LONDON - Williams and Force India were among four teams to have no drivers named on an entry list for next year’s Formula One world championship published by the governing FIA on Wednesday. Williams had been expected to include at least well-funded Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado as one of their drivers but the former champions left both spaces blank, with names to be conďŹ rmed at a later date. Brazilian Rubens Barrichello, Williams’s other driver this year, is out of contract but hoping to stay on for his 20th season in the sport despite having strong rivals for the seat. Force India, who are expected to conďŹ rm Britain’s Paul Di Resta and Germany’s Nico Hulkenberg, also left empty spaces along with HRT and Toro Rosso. Spanish-owned HRT have already announced Spanish veteran Pedro de la Rosa as one of their drivers, but his name did not appear on the initial list either. The Formula One sporting regulations decree the International Automobile Federation (FIA) must publish the list on or before Nov. 30 but teams are under no obligation to decide their drivers by that date. Lotus, formerly the Renault F1 team, had only 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen listed after announcing on Tuesday that the Finn would be
making a comeback with them. Russian Vitaly Petrov, Frenchman Romain Grosjean and Brazilian Bruno Senna have all been linked to the team’s second position. Petrov, who has a contract and has raced for the past two seasons, and his manager were meeting Lotus bosses on Wednesday to discuss his future with the team. Lotus have now also become a British team after Renault, despite their team factory being in central England, had competed under the French ag. Despite eight of the 12 teams being Britishbased, including champions Red Bull, only three (McLaren, Williams and Lotus) will compete with British licences next year.
