One Direction scotch split rumours LONDON - British boyband One Direction insisted Saturday they would not be splitting up despite the departure of band member Zayn Malik.
The chart toppers, who have sold more than 50 million records worldwide and have a huge teenage following, hit back at rumours concerning their future. Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson played their first Brtish concert as a foursome on Friday night in Cardiff. Payne responded to rumours of a split before they performed Saturday at London’s Wembley Stadium. “We don’t know where that came from because we’ve got loads of stuff going on,” he said. “We have just started the process for recording the new album, we’ve got a whole new tour going on, there are some

really good songs so I don’t think we are going anywhere for a while.” One Direction announced in March that Malik was quitting, but that the band would continue as a foursome. “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight,” Malik said. OTTAWA - Pop star Justin Bieber pleaded guilty Thursday to assault and careless driving, but will not go to jail over a collision with paparazzi in the Canadian countryside last year. A court official told AFP Bieber must pay a Can$750 (US$600) fine for careless driving. A more serious charge of dangerous driving, however, was withdrawn, while Bieber received an absolute discharge for the assault, meaning he was found guilty but no conviction will show up on his record. The crash occured in September near his hometown of Stratford, Ontario where Bieber was visiting family with his on-and-off-again girlfriend Selena Gomez.

Bieber, 21, was accused of ramming his All-Terrain Vehicle into a minivan driven by a photographer and then getting into a “physical altercation” with the driver, according to police. Local media said Bieber and Gomez had been taking turns driving the ATV while the other sat on the back. The couple had been on a quiet retreat in Stratford “that was unfortunately disrupted by the unwelcome presence of paparazzi,” said his lawyer Brian Greenspan. Bieber once enjoyed a squeaky clean image but has more recently had frequent run-ins with the law, including for drag racing and throwing eggs at his neighbor’s home. (afp)
NEW YORK — With a photo flashing a red “Thank You!” written in the palm of his unharmed hand, Enrique Iglesias thanked his fans on Instagram for their support while he recovers from his recent finger-slicing accident. “Wanted to do something special to thank all you guys for your love and support this week. Leave your questions on this post!” wrote the Spanish heartthrob. Hundreds of followers, mostly women writing in Spanish, immediately flooded the post with good wishes and questions like, “When are you resuming your tour?” “My hand is getting better little by little,” he replied to an admirer in Spanish. “I am going to Mexico at the beginning of July, so see you there!” Iglesias sliced his fingers when grabbing a drone at a show in Tijuana, Mexico, last weekend. DENPASAR - Carrying out ngaben (cremation) and mamukur ceremonies is an obligation for Hindus in Bali. However, in practice, because of the high cost of such ceremonies, not all people can carry out these obligations.
The inability to pay for such ceremonies is in fact closely tied to the hegemony of the wealthy who tend to hold very elaborate ceremonies.
However as Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Raka Suardana says, ngerit or mass cremation ceremonies offer an alternative which could address the issue of cost, because each person pays much less if the hold an individual ceremony. “The cost of the ritual paraphernalia and other related costs can be shared. Suppose a single family carries out such a ceremony on their own, they would have to at least spend at least IDR 15 million for the offerings alone, not to mention the amount spent on providing food and beverage for those in attendance. The cost of it is fairly high,” he explained. Suardana, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Un-
diknas University, said that Balinese Hindus need to start making improvements and realize that in fact the burden of ceremony comes from issues of prestige, not from the teachings of Hinduism. “If these ceremonies are carried out en masse, what would normally cost tens of millions of rupiahs can be reduced to an average of IDR 3 million per family or less of there are more participants,” he said. In addition to economic benefits, the Secretary of the Indonesian Economists Association (ISEI) of Bali Chapter sees the mass cremations in terms of their social aspect which promotes the spirit of mutual

cooperation. He added that wealthily families will likely still want to have grandiose cremations with all the trimmings, and that this need not be a problem, provided they are implementing their ceremonial obligations with sincerity.
