To further support Karangasem as a spiritual tourist destination, some supporting facilities are required such as a private runaway and a harbour for private boats. According to Oka, investors have approached the community about building a runaway and a harbor at Datah village and Laba Sari village, in Abang. “Many rich people overseas want to visit Bali and enjoy spiritual tourism. Now, local villages are lobbying for the development of the runwa and the harbour. Some Balinese style homes spread across some 1,000 sqaure meters will also be established. These will include

pavilions intended for elite guests so that they can stay in places that resemble the homes of local residents”, he explained. Oka’s colleague representing the Karangasem constituency, I Gusti Putu Widjera, said that developing spiritual tourism in Karangasem will likely face some tough challenges, particularly regarding spiritual concepts. Infrastructure, facilities and spiritual supporting tourism are other challenges that need to be addresed. “The challenges here are regarding how to create spiritual tourism. Besakih for instance is intended for devotees, so what kind of tourism can take place there? The plan sounds good, but it needs to be studied first”, he said. According to Widjera, developing spiritual tourism is as difficult as the development of snake-fruit agro-tourism. It would be advisable for the local government to develop marine tourism or water tourism,

especially diving. “Diving tourism is appropriate for Karangasem such as the marine tourism in Tulamben that

has beautiful coral reef. Actually, it is more appropriate to develop existing tourist destinations rather that exploring spiritual tourism,

YOKOSUKA — Nissan Motor Co. is testing self-driving cars at one of its plants in Japan that can tow vehicles on a trailer to the wharf for loading on transport ships. The Japanese automaker thinks the technology will, in the long run, save costs and boost efficiency. The tests also can add to knowledge needed to take such autonomous driving onto public roads. Nissan executive Haruhiko Yoshimura said the automaker hoped to use the technology throughout the Oppama plant by 2019, and in overseas plants in the future. During a demonstration Monday, a Leaf car with no one

inside scooted along the road, pulling a trailer with three other Leafs on it, stopped properly for other vehicles, and then veered into a parking lot. But one vehicle ran into trouble, refused to move and was not able

to take part in the demonstration. Kazuhiro Doi, a Nissan vice president, acknowledged such glitches showed a challenge unique to the technology. “If there are drivers, they can take action,” he said. “Mechanical operations are all there is in a driverless car.” Nissan, which makes the March subcompact, Infiniti luxury models and the Leaf electric car, now has just two of the self-driving Leaf cars. For all the vehicles produced at

the Oppama plant to be towed in a driverless way, five more such vehicles are needed, according to Nissan. People still had to get inside each of the towed vehicles to drive them to the proper wharf, but Nissan hopes that as self-driving technology advances cars will drive themselves into the ships, up the plank on their own. In commercial products available in Japan, the vehicles, with some variation of autonomous driving, can stop on their own before a crash or stay inside the lane on their own for highway driving, although all must have drivers. Many smartphone health apps don’t flag danger, says review NEW YORK — Don’t count on smartphone health apps in an emergency: A review shows many don’t warn when you’re in danger. The study published Monday in the journal Health Affairs found problems even with apps considered to be among the highest-quality offerings on the market. There’s been a proliferation of health apps

for mobile phones. According to the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics, there are more than 165,000 health apps out there. “The state of health apps is even worse than we thought,” said Dr. James Madara, chief executive of the American Medical Association, who was not involved in the study. This wasn’t a survey of step-

counting fitness apps. The research team reviewed 137 apps designed for patients with serious ongoing health problems, including asthma, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and depression. Each app was reviewed by a doctor and a tech expert. The researchers named most of the apps but didn’t publish their reviews. Instead, they shared them with the app companies. Singh said they were interested in “identifying gaps that need to be filled” instead of naming winners and losers. Overall, the industry needs to do more work to improve safety and privacy, he said. And patients need to go beyond consumer ratings on websites before depending on apps to make crucial decisions about their health. Health apps face a limited amount of regulation. For example, the Food and Drug Administration does not require premarket review for most apps, though it can require a developer to remove apps under certain circumstances. (ap)

is also asked to disseminate to all members of society, and especially visitors, so that they will not get surprised by washed-up waste occurred each year. However, the alert status is not necessarily meant to scare people. It is a part of the effort to anticipate so that people can understand when the government attempt to optimally cope with the washed-up waste. “We hope that all parties can work together to jointly anticipate the arrival of washed-up waste. Date however shows that only 169 of the 1,001 people working in tourism in Bangli have been certified – a very low figure indeed. “The number of certified workers is still very small. It is less than two percent”, said Sukarta accompanied by Labor Inspector Kadek Wuri Lestari Handayani. The certification process is actually free of charge and is being implemented in cooperation with a professional certification

institute (LSP). The main reasoin that so few workers have applied for certification is that few people understand the porcess. “Many fear that the certification test is too hard, whereas in fact it is not. The test can be carried out at their place of work and is free of charge”, he explained. According to Government Regulation No.52/2012, companies must have at least 50 percent of employees consiste of certified workers. Given current conditions, Sukarta’s agency will continue to intensify their dissemination of information regarding this matter. “Right now there is still very

little awareness amongst the labour force. We are encouraging everyine concerned to participate in the certification program in 2017. This is our target. The LSP has been very supportive of the program”, he added. In order to realize this goal, efforts need to be made by more than just the district government. Companies with employees also have an obligation to encourage their staff to get certified. Certifies labour will also be better able to improve the quality of services which will in turn will be able to increase consumer confidence.

If companies insiste on ignoring the issue of certification, he confirmed that the permits for these business establishments will not be issued or renewed. This will be coordinated with the Integrated Licensing Office. In addition to companies, schools that have a tourism department will also be required to carry out certification for their students, so that after graduation the students can directly compete against people from elsewhere. “Today, they (students—Ed) are only armed with diplomas. Finally, it was made classification of mangosteen based on the origin of farmers, groups and the number of orchard to ascertain whether it has met the standards of operations or not. In case there is a problem at the level of buyer, it will be easily traced back. To maintain continuity of supply, the company also takes mangosteen from other areas. Indonesia has three largest mangosteen-producing regions in the world namely Bali, West Java and West Kalimantan. “Bali has the best mangosteen trend in the world, although the price is slightly expensive because Bali is a tourism area. However, it tastes different because in Bali there are many organic farms so that it is automatically different,” he explained.

In addition, according to him, delicious flavor of mangosteen is obtained from the treatment of Balinese people against the trees whether they are given rituals or respected so that Bali mangosteen is also famous in the world. He continued that Bali mangosteen was initially just marketed in the country but it has now penetrated the export market after a fairly long journey since 20 years ago. Originally, he was a hawker with his parents and one day met with buyers from overseas and exported piecemeal. “Our friends also do the same where they cannot directly export or directly to reach the world market,” he said. Sweet result of the long journey in the period of 2015-2016 was exporting 4,000 tons of mangosteen per month where the fruit can last for a month. It can be achieved after applying the eco-friendly technology and appropriate SOP from planting until the end of processing. “Each company has its own SOP regarding how to do harvest, postharvest and processing. In short, everything has procedures,” he added. With coaching and training organized continuously both by the company and government, the farmers can get a better result. “The price of mangosteen is also influenced by the factor whether it fulfills the processing standards or not,” he said. WASHINGTON - U.S. President-elect Donald Trump indicated a tougher U.S. approach to China by speaking to Taiwan’s president last week, but how far he will push a risky test of wills to wring concessions from Beijing on issues from trade to North Korea is unclear. The call between Trump and Tsai Ing-wen was the first by a U.S. president-elect or president with a Taiwanese leader since President Jimmy Carter switched diplomatic recognition to Chinafrom Taiwan in 1979. It prompted a diplomatic protest from China which the outgoing Obama administration warned could undermine progress in relations with Beijing, which has been carefully built up over decades by both Republican and Democratic administrations. Analysts say it could provoke military confrontation with China if pressed too far. Trump officials and Vice President-elect Mike Pence sought to play down the significance of the 10-minute conversation, saying it was a “courtesy” call and not intended to show a policy shift. However, Trump fueled the fire on Sunday by complaining about Chinese economic and military policy on Twitter, while on Monday an economic adviser to Trump, Stephen Moore, said if Beijing did not like it, “screw ‘em.” Analysts, including senior former U.S. officials, said the call appeared to be at least an initial shot across China’s bow to signal a

Indonesia strong in face of Trump effect: Analyst

JAKARTA - Indonesias economy is strong enough to face the challenges to the global economy likely to emanate from Donald Trumps policies, an academician and economic analyst has said. “I do not see any reason to be concerned because our consumption still accounts for 56 percent of our total output,” Wahyoe Soedarmono, who is also the chairman of the study management program of the University of Indonesia (UI), said here on Monday. He made the remark after attending an expose on Indonesias economy 2017 entitled: Waiting for the Daybreak in the New Global Economic Equilibrium,” organized by Sampoerna. In the third quarter of 2016, Indonesias current account deficit of 1.8 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) is seen as adequately good. This could minimize the negative sentiment against Indonesias economy, and result in lower capital outflows. The capital outflow in midNovember, or when Donald Trump was elected president, reached Rp16 trillion. Yet, the effect of the capital outflow is far smaller on Indonesia compared with Thailand, India, Taiwan or South Korea, Wahyoe said.

end of 2017,” he said. However, Indonesia should watch the planned increase of the benchmark rate by the United States Federal Reserve at the end of 2016 and the whole of 2017. There are a number of policy choices such as expenditure-switching policy and increase of Bank Indonesias (BI) reference rates. Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has predicted that the Indonesian economy will grow at 5.1 percent next year, mostly fueled by high consumption and private investment. “The growth will follow a recovery in commodity prices, and a lower lending rate in 2017,” IMF Executive Council Luis E Breuer said in a press statement released last month (November 25). The IMF also predicted that Indonesias economy will expand by 5.0 percent this year, propelled by high private consumption. The countrys inflation rate in 2016 is projected to reach 3.3 percent yearon-year and increase to the midrange of 3-5 percent in 2017 due to the revised electricity subsidy target, he added. (ant)

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said a way out has been found over pending issue in negotiation with Inpex Corporation, the operator of the Masela gas block. “We already have a solution,” Luhut said after a meeting with Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Ignasius Jonan and Deputy ESDM Minister Arcandra Tahar here on Monday. Last week Luhut met with Managing Executive Officer of Inpex Kenji Kawano to discuss the companys requests. “We discussed details of two pending issues in the contract . Discussion of the two items have been almost final but there are still minor differences,” he said after the meeting with Kenji . The two items are about compensation in length of contract and the capacity of the LNG plant to be built as a result of the change in location of the LNG plant, he said. Inpex asked for an addition of 10 years to its contract in compensation for the change in the location of LNG plant as asked by the government. The government wants the LNG plant to be built on shore instead of off-shore as originally agreed. “An addition of 10 years, however, is not possible. We are looking for an acceptable figure (for the additional length of contract),” he said. On Monday, Luhut said a solution had been found but he refused to elaborate . “It is yet to be reported to the president before being discussed at a limited cabinet meeting,” he said. Inpex said it needs an extension of contract to reach an economic value and reasonable investment level. The existing contract of Inpex in Masela is to expire in 2028 with the capacity of the LNG plant at 7.5 million tons per year. Inpex wanted a larger capacity for the LPN plant at 9.5 million tons to increase the internal rate of return (IRR), but the government said the capacity should be in proportion with the size of the reserve in the Abadi field. Jonan said the government does not agree with Inpex request to increase the LNG regasification capacity to 9.5 million tons a year (mtpa). “The plan is 7.5 mtpa. There is, however, request from the industry ministry that part of the production is set aside for downstream industry . Therefore, the capacity would larger than 7.5 mtpa but not much higher,” he said. (ant)

ROME - Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi announced on Monday that he would resign after suffering a resounding defeat in a referendum over constitutional reform, leaving the euro zone’s third-largest economy in political limbo. Italy’s largely ceremonial head of state, President Sergio Mattarella, told the prime minister to stay on until parliament had approved the 2017 budget. That could be achieved as soon as later this week, after which, the president said, Renzi would be free to tender his resignation. His decision to quit after less than three years in office deals a new blow to Western political establishments, still in shock from Britain’s unexpected vote to leave the European Union and the U.S. election of outsider Donald Trump as president. The referendum, intended to change rules to make Italy more governable, was opposed by right-wing and populist parties, including groups that want Italy to ditch the euro. Those groups have crowed that the referendum showed voters reject traditional elites, in the

vein of the victories of Brexit and Trump, although mainstream opposition parties and even some leaders of Renzi’s fractured centreleft Democratic Party (PD) had also campaigned for “no”. Gradually following the wall down from the top (5-8M) to 25M (max depth 35M), where it becomes a white sand slope, you find a big gorgonian fan with long-nose

hawkfish. This area is also known for sightings of white tip reef shark, small schools of barracudas, turtles, and of course Napoleonfish. From this 25M point we ascend (slowly) up the slope, over many soft corals, until reaching a huge colony of garden eels, which covers the slope from 20M to beyond where it flattens out at 14M. From Garden Eel Point we head south to a coral garden at 5-12M. This area gives us Big-Eyed Trevally, Titan Triggerfish, many clownfish in their anemones and often a surprisingly number of scorpionfish. (IBP/net)

PARIS - Olympique Lyonnais need to shake off the psychological shock of the firecracker attack on their goalkeeper Anthony Lopes when they take on Sevilla in a must-win Champions League Group H finale on Wednesday. Lyon, whose Ligue 1 game at Metz had to be abandoned in the first half after the hurled missiles deafened Lopes, were shaken by the incident which left him in hospital. They are third in their group on seven points, three behind secondplaced Sevilla and, after a 1-0 loss in the first leg, a win by a two-goal margin would take Lyon past Spain’s Europa League champions and into the last 16. They cannot be leapfrogged by bottom side Dinamo Zagreb, who travel to already-qualified Juventus. Lyon, however, seemed badly affected by Lopes having to be sent to a hospital on Saturday night after a couple of the firecrackers

exploded near him. “The eardrums were not damaged but he is suffering from traumatic deafness,” Lyon said in a statement on Sunday while Lopes added on Instagram that he would need two weeks of treatment. It was not clear, however, whether Lopes would be fit for Wednesday’s clash. “Lyon underline the fact that the whole squad... have been seriously shaken emotionally by this aggression,” the club statement added. Lyon, who played the Champions League semi-finals in 2010, will be relying on the in-form Mathieu Valbuena to take them into the last 16 for the first time in three years.
