Tyson says he’s used to putting life on stage Associated Press Writer
NEW YORK — Pounding out the details of his personal life on a Broadway stage doesn’t seem to faze Mike Tyson. The former heavyweight champ says that’s what’s used to doing, “and at least now I don’t have to go to hospital every time.” The 46-year old Tyson is appearing in the one-man show, “Mike Tyson Undisputed Truth.” Directed by Spike Lee, the nearly two-hour show chronicles Tyson’s life from childhood and his early boxing career to his public
divorce from Robin Givens and his time spent in prison. He even talks about an incident with Brad Pitt. “I’m just joking and stuff. I’m not mad at anyone. I hope he gives me a damn job,” Tyson said when asked about the incident. The boxer spoke to The Associated Press Thursday, the same day as the show’s opening. Lee chimed in: “He asked for a job.” Lee, famous for chronicling stories about Brooklyn in such films as “Crooklyn,” ‘’She’s Gotta Have It,” and the upcoming “Red Hook Summer,” feels this work adds nicely to collection.
“You can’t get more Brooklyn than Mike Tyson. And if you remember the film, “Do the Right Thing,” the great Robin Harris (playing Sweet Dick Willie) had many references to Mike. And the side of Sal’s Famous Pizzeria we painted a mural, Brooklyn’s Finest: Mike Tyson, so this is history,” Lee said. While Tyson’s life has been tumultuous at times, the boxer says he can deal with telling intimate details to a room full of strangers simply because “it’s a job to be done.” “Even though it’s real, it’s not real. It’s an illusion,” Tyson says.

CHICAGO — Police evacuated tens of thousands of concertgoers from the Lollapalooza music festival on Saturday before a powerful thunderstorm swept into downtown Chicago and pelted the outdoor venue with rain. The event was indefinitely suspended at 3:30 p.m. after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued, said police spokesman Darryl Baety. The estimated 100,000 fans at the sold-out show left Grant Park calmly as they were led to evacuation and shelter sites in underground parking garages along Michigan Avenue. Day two of the three-day event, which concludes Sunday, was supposed to culminate with the Red Hot Chili Peppers rocking out on
the main stage. Concert organizers said Saturday’s show would resume if and when it’s deemed safe to do so. “Due to an approaching storm and warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS), Lollapalooza organizers have suspended the festival until further notice,” said an announcement on the concert web-
site and sent by text message to those who downloaded the festival smartphone app. “Lollapalooza officials are continuing to ... monitor weather conditions and determine when the park is safe for festivalgoers to return,” it said. Video screens at the venue also displayed evacuation announcements. Shelby Meade, a spokeswoman for promoter C3 Presents, said the company regretted having to suspend the show. “Our first priority is always the safety of our fans, staff and artists,” Meade said. Powerful winds from an advancing storm were responsible for last summer’s deadly stage rigging collapse at the Indiana State Fair.

“The absorption of local products by tourism sector is still minimal, only reaching 10 percent. It happens because the quality of local craft
products has not yet complied with the expected standard, so that industry is unable to absorb the total production output,” said Chairman of the
Badung Chamber of Commerce and Industry, AA Ngurah Alit Wiraputra, in Denpasar. He said the Badung Government Tourism Office required hoteliers to purchase local handicraft products up to 60 percent. Such policy had been set forth in the regional regulation (Perda) on tourism to help grow the creative economy. “We will try to increase the absorbability of local products. But, as employers we will also absorb a quality product so that tourists will
not complain about the products purchased,” he said. According to him, the Badung Chamber of Commerce and Industry would also help craftsmen in the matter of capital so they could improve the quality of their products. “We will attempt to support the development of small craftsmen. Our party has lobbied and asked the support from the banking institution, both national and local banks,” he said. Meanwhile, Chairman of the
Indonesia Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI) of Badung, IGN Rai Surya Wijaya, also admitted that hotel industry still absorbed a small amount of local products. However, his party claimed if hoteliers had long helped the local craftsmen. “Although the absorption is still a few, we have long committed to helping local craftsmen in marketing their products by providing exhibition booth in hotels,” he said.

Denpasar (Bali Post)— Allegedly due to misunderstanding, a land broker name I Made Merta, 56, a resident living on Jalan Cokroaminoto Gang Sari 18, Sedana Merta village, Ubung, Denpasar, was desperate to vandalize a shrine. Even, the vandalism was aided by two workers consisting of Alberthus Malo Kii Bulu, 29, and Marthen Ngongo Bili, 24, from Sumba. The shrine belonging to the family of IB Surya Prabhawa Manuaba was vandalized to be almost flat to the ground. Chief of Badung Police, Beny Arjanto, when asked for his confirmation on Saturday justified the incident of shrine vandalism act. His party had arrested the three culprits and they were still undergoing an intensive investigation. So far, all the culprits still had the status as witness. “We have arrested the three culprits. Since the incident occurred this afternoon (Saturday—Ed), the three culprits still had the status as witness,” explained the former Head of Sub Directorate of General Criminal Detective of Bali Police. Being surprised to see his shrine being demolished, he then reported the incident to Mengwi Police. “According to Made Merta, he was told to do so by the land owner (the buyer from Surabaya),” he said. Meanwhile, the land owner claimed to have made coordination with a religious figure. However, Surya Prabhawa admitted to have not been informed. “We’re still investigating this case. For a while, the motive is only a misunderstanding. Even though coming in with rabies symptoms, a patient from Negara hospitalized at Sanglah Hospital last Tuesday (31/7) got his condition better. The man aged 53 years old was bitten by dog on the back of right foot one and half months ago by his neighbor’s dog. Five days after it, the dog died while patient complaint he’s experiencing hard breathing and pins and needles. Five days later he was taken to Negara Hospital which then referred to Sanglah Hospital with clinical symptoms rabies. Yet 4 days treated in Sanglah, patient’s condition got better which means patient is not suffering from rabies as stated by dr. Ken Wirasandhi, MARS when contacted last Friday (3/8). “At first he became a suspect rabies patient with the symptoms and the fact he’s bitten by a dog. Yet now he has got better and scheduled to may leave the hospital,” Wirasandhi explained. Wirasandhi also stated that patient has to keep on taking Anti Rabies Vaccination (VAR) as it is a procedure to those who have bitten by dog moreover the dog died. With this patient coming in as suspect rabies it totals from 7, 6 of them died this year 2012. (san)

A married couple from China who were enjoying the morning atmosphere of Ubud at Jalan Hanoman last Saturday (4/8) got disturbed by robber Gupron Masrudin (21) from Dusun Karanggending, Pribolinggo, East Java who’s a mini market worker at Andong. It was stated, Shamasan Wei (44) was holding a cell phone which suddenly taken by robber who’s on a motorcycle. In that scene victim managed to hold robber’s motorbike which then locals noticed what happened and so judged him by hitting him causing blood all over his face and his head wounded. Police managed to stop the clash then brought robber to police station. Ubud Head Police, PC Gede Redastra, stated that robber and evidence has been secured while victim has been asked for statement. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

NASA picks 3 private firms to develop space taxis Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON — NASA picked three aerospace companies Friday to build small rocketships to take astronauts to the International Space Station. This is the third phase of NASA’s efforts to get private space companies to take over the job of the now-retired space shuttle. The companies will share more than $1.1 billion. Two of the ships are capsules like in the Apollo era and the third is closer in design to the space shuttle. Once the spaceships are built, NASA plans to hire the private companies to taxi astronauts into space within five years. Until they are ready, NASA is paying Russia about $63 million per astronaut to do the job. In a statement, NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said the move “will help keep us on track to tend the outsourcing of human spaceflight.” NASA hopes that by having private firms ferry astronauts into low Earth orbit, it can focus on larger long-term goals, like sending crews to a nearby asteroid and eventually Mars. The private companies can also make money in tourism and other non-NASA business. The three companies are the Boeing Co. of Houston, Space Exploration Technologies, called SpaceX,
of Hawthorne, Calif., and Sierra Nevada Corp. of Louisville, Colo. They are quite different companies. Boeing is one of the oldest and largest space companies with a long history of building and launching rockets and working for NASA, going back to the Mercury days. SpaceX is a relatively new company started by Elon Musk, who helped create PayPal and runs the electric car company Tesla Motors. Sierra Nevada has been in the space business for 25 years but mostly on a much smaller scale than Boeing. NASA’s commercial crew development program started with seven companies. The other companies that were not chosen can still build private rocketships and NASA still has the option to hire them to ferry astronauts at a later date, NASA spokesman Trent Perrotto said.
Virtual patients get psychiatric evaluations
Virtual humans may be getting real-world jobs, training psychiatrists. New technology makes it possible for virtual humans to interact with a therapist via a computer, while mimicking the symptoms of a patient with a clinical psychological disorder, Albert “Skip” Rizzo told colleagues at the American Psychological Association’s annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., today (Aug. 3). Videos of conversations between a virtual character and a therapist in training resemble video chats with a character from The Sims, a virtualreality game. Speech recognition software allows the virtual patients to answer questions, so the therapist can make a preliminary diagnosis. The virtual patients include “Justin,” is a 16-year-old with a conduct disorder who is being forced by his
family to participate in therapy, and the more advanced iteration, “Justina,” a sexual assault victim who was designed to have symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. In an initial test, 15 psychiatry residents were asked to perform a 15minute interaction with Justina. Rizzo’s lab at the University of Southern California is also developing virtual veterans with depression and suicidal thoughts; they are intended to help train clinicians and military personnel to spot those at risk for suicide or violence. Over the long-term, Rizzo hopes to create a library of virtual patients representing many diagnoses to be used in training psychiatrists and psychologists, who currently train using role-playing followed by supervised work with real patients.

Already 5 years ago when the foundation was set up Bethany’s book was an inspiration for the founder of the foundation. He even has chosen to use the words soul surf in the name of the foundation, inspired by Bethany’s story. The kids, living in Benih Harapan orphanange and in the streetchildren shelter YPKA, arrived at 3pm at double 66 beach at the Rip Curl school of surf, were geared up with Rip Curl equipments, and started their surflesson. With the help of Rip Curl surf instructors and Bethany, the kids surfed for about an hour. After the lesson the kids could meet and greet Bethany, had a snack, and had the opportunity to take a picture with Bethany and to get her signature. Rip Curl Asia gave away 5 surfboards to the kids together with a big amount of rice and noodles to the two orphanages.

The goods terminal at Ahmad Yani Street, Singaraja, was forced closed since the beginning of this month due to a drainage reparation project and road tarring in the terminal. Due to it, retribution usually happening from goods vehicles coming to Singaraja evaporated as it couldn’t be taken. From what’s seen on Friday (3/8) the condition inside the terminal was quiet, workers who usually supervise there were not there at all moreover the retribution office was closed. Head of Transportation Facilities, Made Yudana, as permitted by Head of Buleleng Transportation Agency, Gede Witama, in his office stated the terminal’s retribution is being stopped since the closing on early August. Benchmark U.S. crude on Friday rose $4.27 to end the day at $91.40 per barrel in New York. Brent crude, which sets the price for oil imported into the U.S., climbed $3.04, or 2.9 percent, to $108.94 per barrel in London. Prices climbed after the government said U.S. employers added 163,000 jobs in July. Last month’s hiring was the best since February, though it wasn’t enough to drive down the unemployment rate. Prices for oil and gasoline tend to rise on signs of strength in the economy, which increases energy demand.
“There’s a lot of optimism following the jobs report,” said Tom Kloza, publisher and chief oil analyst at Oil Price Information Service. Also, the number of new jobs wasn’t enough to dissuade investors that the U.S. Federal Reserve could take more action to spur growth, he said. After rising sharply the first three weeks of July, the price of oil steadied as investors waited to see if central banks in the U.S. and Europe would announce new stimulus measures. On Friday, crude rose 4.9 percent, the biggest one-day increase since June 29, when it rose 9.4 percent. In other energy futures trading, heating oil added 8.4 cents to finish at $2.926 per gallon while wholesale gasoline added 6.1 cents to finish at $2.931 per gallon. What is exactly the significance of pajegan mask? Among the Balinese community, the pajegan mask dance is frequently called sacred dance (wali), because it has something to do with yajña ceremony (Hindu religious rituals). This dance-drama, according to the mask artist of the Indonesia Arts Institute (ISI) Denpasar, Nyoman Catra, was always performed by a single dancer with a storyline. Due to such solo performance, it then raised so diverse interpretations on the definition of the mask. Some call the pajegan mask to originate from the Balinese word mamajeg or doing an entire job alone—where an actor played the entire mask characters. Meanwhile, there was also another version calling it Pejagan mask which meant to keep up. The mask dance was held to ‘look after’ in order along the implementation of yajña children would not interfere with the high priest chairing the rituals. During the ritual process, the mask performance was used to make the implementation of yajña run without any obstacles and the high priest was capable of performing the worship solemnly. However, the Pejagan was actually carried out by telling stories. In other words, during the performance of the mask dance, the artist attempted to ‘interpret’ the meaning of rituals. By doing so, people could
understand about the real meaning behind the implementation of the rituals. Within that context, the mask performance played an important role in the process of transformation of religious value--a very urgent mission. On that account, the mask was often used as a medium to interpret the meaning of ritual and served as ‘sermon’ since the past time. Catra also added that pajegan mask was identical to the procession of Sidakarya mask performance. In relation to this matter, at the end of the ritual procession was usually staged the Sidakarya mask. Performance of the pajegan mask staged a hard mask depicting an energetic young character. If analogized to the passage of time, he was the early morning with a bright light, while the old mask depicted a person who had been growing older – whose energy was getting limited. Or it described the passage of time that had been leaning toward the west or afternoon. In the meantime, at the end of the performance was presented the Sidakarya mask marked with the expression of laugh and scary at the same time. This dualism of expression could be interpreted as the journey to the next world where a person could go to heaven or hell. It was determined by karma vasana or traces of the deeds in previous lifetime. Expression of laughing

TOKYO — A grandson of ex-U.S. President Harry Truman, who ordered the atomic bombings of Japan during World War II, is in Hiroshima to attend a memorial service for the victims. Clifton Truman Daniel visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on Saturday and laid a wreath for the 140,000 people killed by the Aug. 6, 1945, bombing authorized by his grandfather. Another atomic blast in Nagasaki three days later killed 70,000 more. “I think this cenotaph says it all — to honor the dead to not forget and to make sure that we never let this happen again,” Daniel said after offering a silent prayer. Daniel, 55, is in Japan to attend ceremonies next week in Hiroshima and Nagasaki marking the 67th anniversary of the bombings. His visit, the first by a member of the Truman family, is sponsored by the peace group Sadako Legacy, named after Sadako Sasaki, an A-bomb victim who died of leukemia at age 12. While in the hospital, Sadako folded hundreds of paper cranes after hearing a legend that people who make 1,000 origami cranes can be granted a wish. Origami cranes have since become a symbol of peace. Daniel, a former journalist, met Sadako’s 71-year-old brother, Masahiro Sasaki, who survived the bombing, at a peace event in New York in 2010. They agreed to work together to deepen understanding between the two countries, which are still divided over the question of the legitimacy of the atomic attacks. “There are other opinions, there are other points of view, and I don’t think we ever finish talking about that,” Daniel said after visiting a museum at the memorial. “The important thing is to keep talking, to talk about all of it.” Daniel said in a statement that he decided to visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki because he needed to know the consequences of his grandfather’s decision as part of his own efforts to help achieve a nuclear-free world. The move added to the heat of controversy over which of the country`s law enforcing agencies has the right to investigate the case . The country`s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) already launched investigation of the case and has named four suspects including the three police officers. Police yesterday announced it had five suspects in the corruption case over the procurement of driving simulators for the police`s traffic division worth Rp198.7 billion. However, Insp. Gen. Djoko Susilo, the main suspect named by the antigraft agency was not included among the suspects named by police. The three officers arrested on Saturday included Djoko`s deputy Brig. Gen. Didik Purnomo and two middle ranking police officers. “It is true , the three police officers and a civilian, have been arrested,” police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafly Amar said here today. The police move has drawn strong criticism from lawmakers and legal experts accusing police of abuse of power violating the law that bans other law enforcing agencies from interfering in cases being investigated by KPK. He also pointed out that the KPK and the police should have been more transparent in their investigations in order to allow the media to monitor and report the case more comprehensively to the public. Suyanto stressed the importance of the media`s role as a supervisor of the legal process, so that it stays transparent and in line with existing laws and legal procedures. The KPK and the police will be unable to remain objective and join forces to eradicate corruption if the media continues to focus on their authority tussle, he added. LONDON — Michael Phelps got up to leave his last news conference at the Olympic pool when his relay mates were asked if they thought he would really stay retired. Before they could answer, Phelps smiled and said emphatically: “Yes, yes.” The most decorated Olympian called it a career on Saturday night with a fitting ending — a gold medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay at the London Games. Phelps’ totals in four Olympics: 22 medals, 18 golds, 51 races and 9,900 meters of swimming. “I’ve been able to do everything that I wanted,” he said. “If you can say that about your career, there’s no need to move forward. Time for other things.” Having hung up his suit, cap and goggles for the last time, the 27-year-old from Baltimore is looking forward to the rest of his life. He wants to travel and see places beyond the pools and hotel rooms of the last 12 years. His intended destinations include Australia and Europe. He wants to go cage diving among great white sharks in South Africa with Chad le Clos, the last man to beat him in the Olympics. “I’ve been able to see so many amazing places in the world, but I’ve really never gotten to experience them,” Phelps said. There’s golf and poker to be played, too. He can’t wait for his hometown Ravens to start another football season, and don’t be surprised if turns up to watch some soccer matches. “He’s a true sports fanatic,” Debbie Phelps said. LONDON — Michael Phelps got up to leave his last news conference at the Olympic pool when his relay mates were asked if they thought he would really stay retired. Before they could answer, Phelps smiled and said emphatically: “Yes, yes.” The most decorated Olympian called it a career on Saturday night with a fitting ending — a gold medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay at the London Games. Phelps’ totals in four Olympics: 22 medals, 18 golds, 51 races and 9,900 meters of swimming. “I’ve been able to do everything that I wanted,” he said. “If you can say that about your career, there’s no need to move forward. Time for other things.” Having hung up his suit, cap and goggles for the last time, the 27-year-old from Baltimore is looking forward to the rest of his life. He wants to travel and see places beyond the pools and hotel rooms of the last 12 years. His intended destinations include Australia and Europe. He wants to go cage diving among great white sharks in South Africa with Chad le Clos, the last man to beat him in the Olympics. “I’ve been able to see so many amazing places in the world, but I’ve really never gotten to experience them,” Phelps said. There’s golf and poker to be played, too. He can’t wait for his hometown Ravens to start another football season, and don’t be surprised if turns up to watch some soccer matches. “He’s a true sports fanatic,” Debbie Phelps said. And Mom knows best: “He needs time for himself first,” she said. Phelps still plans to be around the sport that made him rich and famous, saying, “I would like to try to take it to an even higher level than it is now.” He certainly left it on a high note. TOKYO — A grandson of ex-U.S. President Harry Truman, who ordered the atomic bombings of Japan during World War II, is in Hiroshima to attend a memorial service for the victims. Clifton Truman Daniel visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on Saturday and laid a wreath for the 140,000 people killed by the Aug. 6, 1945, bombing authorized by his grandfather. Another atomic blast in Nagasaki three days later killed 70,000 more. “I think this cenotaph says it all — to honor the dead to not forget and to make sure that we never let this happen again,” Daniel said after offering a silent prayer. Daniel, 55, is in Japan to attend ceremonies next week in Hiroshima and Nagasaki marking the 67th anniversary of the bombings. His visit, the first by a member of the Truman family, is sponsored by the peace group Sadako Legacy, named after Sadako Sasaki, an A-bomb victim who died of leukemia at age 12. While in the hospital, Sadako folded hundreds of paper cranes after hearing a legend that people who make 1,000 origami cranes can be granted a wish. The move added to the heat of controversy over which of the country`s law enforcing agencies has the right to investigate the case . The country`s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) already launched investigation of the case and has named four suspects including the three police officers. Police yesterday announced it had five suspects in the corruption case over the procurement of driving simulators for the police`s traffic division worth Rp198.7 billion. However, Insp. Gen. Djoko Susilo, the main suspect named by the antigraft agency was not included among the suspects named by police. The three officers arrested on Saturday included Djoko`s deputy Brig. Gen. Didik Purnomo and two middle ranking police officers. “It is true , the three police officers and a civilian, have been arrested,” police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafly Amar said here today. The police move has drawn strong criticism from lawmakers and legal experts accusing police of abuse of power violating the law that bans other law enforcing agencies from interfering in cases being investigated by KPK. Suyanto stressed the importance of the media`s role as a supervisor of the legal process, so that it stays transparent and in line with existing laws and legal procedures. NEW YORK — The price of oil posted its biggest gain in more than month, jumping nearly 5 percent, after the government reported a sharp rise in jobs growth for July. Benchmark U.S. crude on Friday rose $4.27 to end the day at $91.40 per barrel in New York. Brent crude, which sets the price for oil imported into the U.S., climbed $3.04, or 2.9 percent, to $108.94 per barrel in London. Prices climbed after the government said U.S. employers added 163,000 jobs in July. Last month’s hiring was the best since February, though it wasn’t enough to drive down the unemployment rate. Prices for oil and gasoline tend to rise on signs of strength in the economy, which increases energy demand.
“There’s a lot of optimism following the jobs report,” said Tom Kloza, publisher and chief oil analyst at Oil Price Information Service. Also, the number of new jobs wasn’t enough to dissuade investors that the U.S. Federal Reserve could take more action to spur growth, he said. After rising sharply the first three weeks of July, the price of oil steadied as investors waited to see if central banks in the U.S. and Europe would announce new stimulus measures. On Friday, crude rose 4.9 percent, the biggest one-day increase since June 29, when it rose 9.4 percent. In other energy futures trading, heating oil added 8.4 cents to finish at $2.926 per gallon while wholesale gasoline added 6.1 cents to finish at $2.931 per gallon. A Pajegan Mask
What is exactly the significance of pajegan mask? Among the Balinese community, the pajegan mask dance is frequently called sacred dance (wali), because it has something to do with yajña ceremony (Hindu religious rituals). This dance-drama, according to the mask artist of the Indonesia Arts Institute (ISI) Denpasar, Nyoman Catra, was always performed by a single dancer with a storyline. Due to such solo performance, it then raised so diverse interpretations on the definition of the mask. Some call the pajegan mask to originate from the Balinese word mamajeg or doing an entire job alone—where an actor played the entire mask characters. Meanwhile, there was also another version calling it Pejagan mask which meant to keep up. The mask dance was held to ‘look after’ in order along the implementation of yajña children would not interfere with the high priest chairing the rituals. During the ritual process, the mask performance was used to make the implementation of yajña run without any obstacles and the high priest was capable of performing the worship solemnly. However, the Pejagan was actually carried out by telling stories. In other words, during the performance of the mask dance, the artist attempted to ‘interpret’ the meaning of rituals. By doing so, people could
understand about the real meaning behind the implementation of the rituals. Within that context, the mask performance played an important role in the process of transformation of religious value--a very urgent mission. On that account, the mask was often used as a medium to interpret the meaning of ritual and served as ‘sermon’ since the past time. Catra also added that pajegan mask was identical to the procession of Sidakarya mask performance. In relation to this matter, at the end of the ritual procession was usually staged the Sidakarya mask. Performance of the pajegan mask staged a hard mask depicting an energetic young character. If analogized to the passage of time, he was the early morning with a bright light, while the old mask depicted a person who had been growing older – whose energy was getting limited. Or it described the passage of time that had been leaning toward the west or afternoon. In the meantime, at the end of the performance was presented the Sidakarya mask marked with the expression of laugh and scary at the same time. This dualism of expression could be interpreted as the journey to the next world where a person could go to heaven or hell. It was determined by karma vasana or traces of the deeds in previous lifetime. Expression of laughing

Sidakarya mask, according to Catra, could be interpreted as a depiction of life cycle, starting from old age, died and then took a form of a child again. The goods terminal at Ahmad Yani Street, Singaraja, was forced closed since the beginning of this month due to a drainage reparation project and road tarring in the terminal. Due to it, retribution usually happening from goods vehicles coming to Singaraja evaporated as it couldn’t be taken. NASA picks 3 private firms to develop space taxis Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON — NASA picked three aerospace companies Friday to build small rocketships to take astronauts to the International Space Station. This is the third phase of NASA’s efforts to get private space companies to take over the job of the now-retired space shuttle. The companies will share more than $1.1 billion. Two of the ships are capsules like in the Apollo era and the third is closer in design to the space shuttle. Once the spaceships are built, NASA plans to hire the private companies to taxi astronauts into space within five years. Until they are ready, NASA is paying Russia about $63 million per astronaut to do the job. In a statement, NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said the move “will help keep us on track to tend the outsourcing of human spaceflight.” NASA hopes that by having private firms ferry astronauts into low Earth orbit, it can focus on larger long-term goals, like sending crews to a nearby asteroid and eventually Mars. The private companies can also make money in tourism and other non-NASA business. The three companies are the Boeing Co. of Houston, Space Exploration Technologies, called SpaceX,
of Hawthorne, Calif., and Sierra Nevada Corp. of Louisville, Colo. They are quite different companies. Boeing is one of the oldest and largest space companies with a long history of building and launching rockets and working for NASA, going back to the Mercury days. SpaceX is a relatively new company started by Elon Musk, who helped create PayPal and runs the electric car company Tesla Motors. Sierra Nevada has been in the space business for 25 years but mostly on a much smaller scale than Boeing. NASA’s commercial crew development program started with seven companies. The other companies that were not chosen can still build private rocketships and NASA still has the option to hire them to ferry astronauts at a later date, NASA spokesman Trent Perrotto said.

Virtual humans may be getting real-world jobs, training psychiatrists. New technology makes it possible for virtual humans to interact with a therapist via a computer, while mimicking the symptoms of a patient with a clinical psychological disorder, Albert “Skip” Rizzo told colleagues at the American Psychological Association’s annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., today (Aug. 3). Videos of conversations between a virtual character and a therapist in training resemble video chats with a character from The Sims, a virtualreality game. Speech recognition software allows the virtual patients to answer questions, so the therapist can make a preliminary diagnosis. The virtual patients include “Justin,” is a 16-year-old with a conduct disorder who is being forced by his
family to participate in therapy, and the more advanced iteration, “Justina,” a sexual assault victim who was designed to have symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. In an initial test, 15 psychiatry residents were asked to perform a 15minute interaction with Justina. Rizzo’s lab at the University of Southern California is also developing virtual veterans with depression and suicidal thoughts; they are intended to help train clinicians and military personnel to spot those at risk for suicide or violence. Over the long-term, Rizzo hopes to create a library of virtual patients representing many diagnoses to be used in training psychiatrists and psychologists, who currently train using role-playing followed by supervised work with real patients.

The farmers had not calculated the number of losses due to this catastrophe. They hoped it would rain soon normally. Otherwise, they would certainly face a harvest failure. Already 5 years ago when the foundation was set up Bethany’s book was an inspiration for the founder of the foundation. He even has chosen to use the words soul surf in the name of the foundation, inspired by Bethany’s story. The kids, living in Benih Harapan orphanange and in the streetchildren shelter YPKA, arrived at 3pm at double 66 beach at the Rip Curl school of surf, were geared up with Rip Curl equipments, and started their surflesson. With the help of Rip Curl surf instructors and Bethany, the kids surfed for about an hour. After the lesson the kids could meet and greet Bethany, had a snack, and had the opportunity to take a picture with Bethany and to get her signature. Rip Curl Asia gave away 5 surfboards to the kids together with a big amount of rice and noodles to the two orphanages.

His party had arrested the three culprits and they were still undergoing an intensive investigation. So far, all the culprits still had the status as witness. “We have arrested the three culprits. Since the incident occurred this afternoon (Saturday—Ed), the three culprits still had the status as witness,” explained the former Head of Sub Directorate of General Criminal Detective of Bali Police. The man aged 53 years old was bitten by dog on the back of right foot one and half months ago by his neighbor’s dog. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Tyson says he’s used to putting life on stage Associated Press Writer
NEW YORK — Pounding out the details of his personal life on a Broadway stage doesn’t seem to faze Mike Tyson. The former heavyweight champ says that’s what’s used to doing, “and at least now I don’t have to go to hospital every time.” The 46-year old Tyson is appearing in the one-man show, “Mike Tyson Undisputed Truth.” Directed by Spike Lee, the nearly two-hour show chronicles Tyson’s life from childhood and his early boxing career to his public
divorce from Robin Givens and his time spent in prison. He even talks about an incident with Brad Pitt. “I’m just joking and stuff. I’m not mad at anyone. I hope he gives me a damn job,” Tyson said when asked about the incident. The boxer spoke to The Associated Press Thursday, the same day as the show’s opening. Lee chimed in: “He asked for a job.” Lee, famous for chronicling stories about Brooklyn in such films as “Crooklyn,” ‘’She’s Gotta Have It,” and the upcoming “Red Hook Summer,” feels this work adds nicely to collection.
“You can’t get more Brooklyn than Mike Tyson. And if you remember the film, “Do the Right Thing,” the great Robin Harris (playing Sweet Dick Willie) had many references to Mike. And the side of Sal’s Famous Pizzeria we painted a mural, Brooklyn’s Finest: Mike Tyson, so this is history,” Lee said. While Tyson’s life has been tumultuous at times, the boxer says he can deal with telling intimate details to a room full of strangers simply because “it’s a job to be done.” “Even though it’s real, it’s not real. It’s an illusion,” Tyson says.

CHICAGO — Police evacuated tens of thousands of concertgoers from the Lollapalooza music festival on Saturday before a powerful thunderstorm swept into downtown Chicago and pelted the outdoor venue with rain. The event was indefinitely suspended at 3:30 p.m. after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued, said police spokesman Darryl Baety. The estimated 100,000 fans at the sold-out show left Grant Park calmly as they were led to evacuation and shelter sites in underground parking garages along Michigan Avenue. Day two of the three-day event, which concludes Sunday, was supposed to culminate with the Red Hot Chili Peppers rocking out on
the main stage. Concert organizers said Saturday’s show would resume if and when it’s deemed safe to do so. “Due to an approaching storm and warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS), Lollapalooza organizers have suspended the festival until further notice,” said an announcement on the concert web-
site and sent by text message to those who downloaded the festival smartphone app. “Lollapalooza officials are continuing to ... monitor weather conditions and determine when the park is safe for festivalgoers to return,” it said. Video screens at the venue also displayed evacuation announcements. Shelby Meade, a spokeswoman for promoter C3 Presents, said the company regretted having to suspend the show. “Our first priority is always the safety of our fans, staff and artists,” Meade said. Powerful winds from an advancing storm were responsible for last summer’s deadly stage rigging collapse at the Indiana State Fair.

“The absorption of local products by tourism sector is still minimal, only reaching 10 percent. It happens because the quality of local craft
products has not yet complied with the expected standard, so that industry is unable to absorb the total production output,” said Chairman of the
Badung Chamber of Commerce and Industry, AA Ngurah Alit Wiraputra, in Denpasar. He said the Badung Government Tourism Office required hoteliers to purchase local handicraft products up to 60 percent. Such policy had been set forth in the regional regulation (Perda) on tourism to help grow the creative economy. “We will try to increase the absorbability of local products. But, as employers we will also absorb a quality product so that tourists will
not complain about the products purchased,” he said. According to him, the Badung Chamber of Commerce and Industry would also help craftsmen in the matter of capital so they could improve the quality of their products. “We will attempt to support the development of small craftsmen. Our party has lobbied and asked the support from the banking institution, both national and local banks,” he said. Meanwhile, Chairman of the
Indonesia Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI) of Badung, IGN Rai Surya Wijaya, also admitted that hotel industry still absorbed a small amount of local products. However, his party claimed if hoteliers had long helped the local craftsmen. “Although the absorption is still a few, we have long committed to helping local craftsmen in marketing their products by providing exhibition booth in hotels,” he said.
