Adele album enjoys decade’s biggest US sales year NEW YORK - Adele’s recordbreaking album “25” has scored another feat -- the highest US sales during a single year in a decade. The British singer’s album unsurprisingly was the top-selling album of 2015 and spent its sixth week at number one on the year’s final chart released Monday by Nielsen Music. “25” sold 7.44 million copies in the United States by the end of December 31 -- the most in a year since R&B star Usher’s album “Confessions” sold 7.98 million

copies in 2004. However, Usher’s album came out in March while Adele managed the massive year-end tally despite releasing “25” on November 20. “25,” full of ballads that touch on heartache and childhood nostalgia, was Adele’s first album in four years and benefited from massive pentup demand. Her previous album, “21,” was the top-selling album in the United States in both 2011 and 2012. But “21” did not reach the sales of “25” in either year, showing the

historic nature of Adele’s latest work. “25,” led by the single “Hello,” enjoyed the biggest debut week sales on record both in the United States and Adele’s native Britain. In a move that challenged the music industry’s conventional wisdom about the need for instant online music, Adele did not make “25” available on streaming sites and still managed the huge sales through physical copies and digital downloads. Coachella, which takes place over two consecutive weekends in the California desert, confirmed the long-rumored reunions as it announced its lineup late Monday. The concerts are expected to mark the first time that the original lineup of Guns N’ Roses -- including singer Axl Rose and guitarist Slash -- have performed together since July 1993 in Buenos Aires. The Los Angeles-based hard rockers confirmed the dates on their website with a video of a giant concert reminiscent of the band’s heyday. Rose is heard -- with a profanity added -- singing one of the most famous lines from the band’s repertoire: “You know where you are? You’re in the jungle, baby.” Guns N’ Roses have kept playing in name in recent years but without Slash, who has long said it was too difficult to work with Rose. The singer, who rarely gives interviews, had been scheduled to speak Tuesday on the late-night talk show of Jimmy Kimmel. But Rose’s name inexplicably disappeared Monday from Kimmel’s list of guests on the show’s website. With Rose’s sweeping vocal range and raw anger coupled with Slash’s intricate metal guitar, Guns N’ Roses became an instant sensation. “Appetite for Destruction” from 1987 remains the top-selling debut album by a group in the United States, where it has been certified as selling 18 million copies. But Guns N’ Roses have released just one album in the past two decades -- “Chinese Democracy,” which came out in 2008 after persistent delays and without Slash. (afp)

DENPASAR – The K. Nadha Press Awards 2016 took place at the Ketut Nadha Bali Press Building on Tuesday (5/1). These awards were initiated in 2012 by the Bali Post Media Group. The event was attended by a number of officials and public figures, such as Bali Regents, Senators, and members of the House of Representatives, Balinese university rectors, legislators, academics, and college students. A total of four individuals and 12 institutions received K. Nadha Press Awards. The four individuals that received awards were Mayor General Wisnu Bawa Tenaya, S.IP, Ida Cokorda Anglurah Tabanan, I Gusti Agung Prana, and I Wayan Nardayana. 11 of the 12 institutions that received awards are engaged in education. They are; Udayana University, Saraswati Foundation, the Dwijendra Denpasar Foundation, Institut Hindu Dharma Negeri, Undiknas University, IKIP PGRI Bali, UNHI, Warmadewa University, Undiksha, ISI, and Ngurah Rai university. The twelfth institution that was awarded is Bali’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

Tourism sector ready to compete in AEC

MINISTER of Tourism Arief Yahya is optimistic that Indonesia’s tourism sector is ready to compete in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) that will be enacted in 2016. Minister Yahya explained that the Ministry of Tourism has taken several steps to ensure that Indonesia remains

competitive. For example, a Ministerial Decree has established 7 different sets of standards for the tourism sector and 21 others are being drafted and that 1,500 auditors have been prepared to verify that tourism businesses meet these standards. The Ministry of Tourism has also been facilitating competency

certification for those working in tourism and has also established 12 professional tourism institutes (LSPs). “Our tourism sector has been preparing itself to far the AEC for some time now, particularly in regards to the our human resources. Between 2007-2015, the Ministry of Tourism issued 81,627 competency certificates to people work-

ing in hotels and restaurants, spas, travel agencies, as well as to people working as tour leaders, cooks, in MICE related activities, rafting and diving,” said Minister Yahya. Yahya also expressed his optimism about being able to attract even more tourists in 2016 with projected arrivals of 12 million foreign and foreign exchange earnings of some IDR 172

More and more foreign nationals are infiltrating the informal sector, including sales positions that are much sought after by foreigners. Growing concerns about the fate of Bali’s local labour force was brought to light by the central House of Representatives where the need to immediately parse the problem in order to avoid the escalating marginalisation of Balinese people in their native Bali was recently discussed. Oka Dirga, added that all companies that employ foreign workers are required to ensure that they hold a foreign workers employment permit (IMTA). “Otherwise, they can

be charged for employing illegal labor,” said Dirga. Badung is targeting a total of 300 foreign workers in companies that are operating in Badung. Dirga is confident that this target can be realized. As of August, a total of 235 foreign workers were recorded as holding foreign worker employment permits (IMTA). These permits are issued by the central government, while the local government is given the authority to extend these permits. Domestic tourists spent IDR 224.68 trillion with average spending of IDR 880.925 per trip. Tourism generated funds accounted for 4.23 percent of the GDP, thus exceeding the targeted 4 percent contribution. Direct, indirect and subsequent employment was created for 12.16 million people, thus exceeding the Ministry’s target of 11.3 million job opportunities. “Broadly speaking, the development of our tourism policies for 2015 was right on track and our targets were reached,” concluded Minister Yahya. Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

The smart-tech future beckons to us from the CES gadget show

LAS VEGAS — Look around. How many computing devices do you see? Your phone, probably; maybe a tablet or a laptop. Your car, the TV set, the microwave, bedside alarm clock, possibly the thermostat, and others you’ve never noticed. Much of that computing isn’t doing much while segregated into individual devices. But many of these gadgets have the potential to get smarter by connecting to their fellows, which in turn could open the door to a brave new “Internet

of Things.” To see where that might be taking us, there’s no better place than the annual gadget extravaganza formerly known as the Consumer Electronics Show — and now simply as CES.

The show, which starts Wednesday in Las Vegas, is the place for companies large and small to show off new connected devices. These range from the seemingly trivial — for instance, smart umbrellas that message you if you leave them behind — to the undeniably helpful, such as navigation devices that display driving directions onto your windshield so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road. And while traditional consumer electronics such as phones and TVs account for about half of revenue in U.S. consumer tech, they aren’t growing as quickly as newer connected devices, according to the Consumer Technology Association, the organizer of CES. For instance, smart home devices, such as cameras, thermostats and locks, are expected to grow 21 percent to 8.9 million units in 2016, or $1.2 billion in revenue. According to the McKinsey Global Institute, a division of the consulting giant McKinsey & Co., the value created by connecting the world’s devices could hit $11 trillion annually by 2025, a mindboggling sum that represents over half of U.S. economic output in a year.

Most of the value comes from industrial uses — like cleaner air from smarter energy use and fewer factory shut-downs due to smarter maintenance. But trillions in benefits are expected to come from consumer-bought products: safer streets because of better-driving cars, robots that take care of household chores and health and fitness trackers that let us know when our bodies need medical attention. “There’s a big value in avoiding pain and suffering,” says report coauthor Michael Chui. Of course, people have been making big projections for the Internet of Things for years, yet progress remains halting and fragmentary. Major technology companies can purposefully make it tougher to interact with other companies’ gadgets for business reasons. More data can mean less privacy. In recent years, CES has begun catering more heavily to startups hoping to break through the noise. The sprawling show has sections for wearable fitness gadgets, drones, autonomous vehicles, education, virtual reality, video games, robots, 3-D printers and smart homes. That’s largely a reaction to the fact that many of technology’s big-

gest names have been no-shows for some time. Apple Inc. has skipped the show since the 1990s, and Microsoft Corp.’s then-CEO Steve Ballmer gave the company’s last CES keynote in 2012. Google parent Alphabet Inc. and Amazon. com Inc. hold their own events to release products. And the Consumer Technology Association that runs CES is aiming for attendance this year at or below last year’s record 176,000. Shawn DuBravac, the CTA’s chief economist, argues the show’s maturity is a good thing, its focus transforming over the last two decades from what was “technologically possible” to what’s “technologically meaningful.” It’s no longer about a robot that can walk up steps. It’s about robots that actually mow your lawn. It’s worth bearing in mind that CES is first and foremost a venue for promoting the tech industry — at least the non-Google/Apple/ Amazon/Microsoft part of it. Sometimes the promotion falls flat; 3-D screen technology unveiled at CES in 2010 went from the next big thing to a mostly unused feature. Netbooks introduced in 2009 took a back seat to the iPad released a year later. And concepts such as the smart home have taken a really long time to materialize. For all we know, the Internet of Things could be next on that list. Last summer, two researchers described how they hacked into and took control of a Jeep Cherokee via its cellular connection to the Internet. Cybersecurity firm Rapid7 gave a failing grade to eight of nine popular baby monitors for simple and obvious weaknesses like failing to encrypt Internet-streamed video to prevent eavesdropping or using unchangeable passwords that malicious types could easily find online. Such issues point to a deeper problem: Many would-be connected devices max out their capabilities doing one thing well, leaving little headroom for security protection that wasn’t ever necessary in an unconnected world. Such gadgets could offer hackers an easy route into home or work computers. The fact that many such devices are produced by startups, often crowd-funded and on shoestring budgets, means security is often an afterthought. And the more devices there are, the bigger the potential problem. “With the Internet of Things, we really have to think in terms of scale,” says Rapid7 senior security consultant Mark Stanislav. Garuda to open direct flight on Shanghai-Denpasar route

BEIJING - State-owned airline Garuda Indonesia is planning to start a direct flight between Shanghai, China, and Denpasar, Bali, on January 13. “The non-stop flight between Shanghai and Denpasar will operate thrice a week using an Airbus-330 aircraft,” Vice President of Garuda Indonesia for China Region I I Wayan Subagja on Tuesday.

As Bali is the favorite destination for Chinese tourists visiting Indonesia, hence Garuda will continue to increase the number of direct flights to Bali through regular and unscheduled flights.

Garuda Indonesia also provides regular flights on the Beijing-Jakarta route that operate thrice a week and seven weekly flights each on the Shanghai-Jakarta and GuangzhouJakarta routes. Since January 2013, the national flag carrier has been operating four non-stop weekly flights on the Beijing-Denpasar route and has also

added a new flight on the GuangzhouDenpasar route at the end of 2015. Moreover, Garuda facilitates unscheduled flights for people from eleven Chinese cities who plan on visiting Bali for the Chinese New Year and summer holidays. “They still have huge interest to visit Bali due to which Garuda has tried to provide ease and comfort to

tourists who want to visit Bali. We also promote other destinations in Indonesia,” Subagja emphasized. The opening of flights between several cities in Tiongkok and Bali is expected to support an increase in the number of Chinese tourists to Indonesia, which is targeted to reach ten million people in the next five years since 2015. Shiva Park becomes Gilimanuk icon

NEGARA - Gradually, the area of Gilimanuk -that had been lacking any visual indications that it is part of Bali, has started to be ornamented with charateristically Balinese designs at the exit of Gilimanuk Harbour. After the gate and arched entrance of the harbour were redesigned, incorporating Balinese architecture, a 22 meter high statue of Shiva was erected in front of Gilimanuk Harbour. The Shiva statue has become part of the view of Gilimanuk Bay area and stands to become Gilimanuk’s tourism icon. The Shiva statue that can be seen from vessels as they moor in the jetty, is the work of an artist from Penyaringan, Mendoyo. Even though the statue is still partly under construction, passer-by’s can already enjoy its presence and a number of gazebos have also been set up in the area for people to rest and enjoy the view. The Spatial Planning and Environment (RBTL) board revealed that the area of 2.2 hectares that is being renovated, includes Gilimanuk Bay. Regent of Jembrana, I Putu Artha, who recently came to check the location of the Shiva statue accompanied by the Head of the Environment, Sanitation and Landscaping Agency (LHKP), I Wayan Darwin, had requested that the park area to be both beautified with flowers and that security elements such as permanent road bumps also be installed. The area of the park wil also have lamp posts installed so that the area can also be enjoyed at night. Previously, the location of the Shiva Park was overgrown with weeds and the trees had withered and the park area was bordered by the wall for the security checkpoint for Gulimanuk. The park has now been made beautiful and the wall has been taken down allowing for a view of Gilinmanuk Bay. Regent Artha also inspected the green open space (RTH) at Gilimanuk village square that is still being worked on with the aim of encouraging people to use the space to do exercise. Badung rife with secret recruitment of contract workers

MANGUPURA - At the end of 2015, it came to light that the recruitment of contract workers in Badung has been going on secretly, not only by the Municipal Police, but also by a number of other agencies (SKPD). Agencies that have allegedly been hiring non-civil servants include; the Highways and Irrigation Agency, the Environment Agency and the Population and Civil Registry Office. Allegedly the contract workers were commended by individual officials, including the local legislators. Such recruitment methods are not appropriate according to prescribed discipline for these agencies. “For example, these agencies are required to fill positions with technical development officers, but they have been hiring

Judge asks medium to be presented

DENPASAR - Adoptive mother of the murder victim Engeline, Margriet Ch Megawe, was re-presented in the Denpasar District Court, Monday (Jan. 4). The woman accused of committing murder was on trial with the agenda of examining witnesses. Prosecutor Subekhan et al. presented a number of witnesses, including a close friend of the defendant, Rohana, Andika Anakonda as well as Riden, the friend of Agustay Hamda May.

Rohana who testified before the panel of judges chaired by Edward Harris Sinaga adequately made the spectators and the judges laugh because her statement is considered to be unreasonable. She said that Margriet called her and said that Engeline was kidnapped by a long-haired woman. “Mrs. Margriet said that Engeline was kidnapped by long-haired person,” she told the court. Rohana claimed that she just believed in what is said by the defendant who is also her close friend. Even the witness said that when Engeline was missing, the witness also accompanied to make a report to hamlet chief. “Hamlet chief directly told to report the incident to East Denpasar Police because Mrs. Margriet said (to hamlet chief) that she missed her daughter,” said Rohana lightly. Responding to the statement, the presiding judge reassured about the statement saying that Engeline was kidnapped by a long-haired woman. Chinese woman dies of H5N6 bird flu, another woman critical

BEIJING — Health authorities in southern China said Tuesday that a 26-year-old woman has died of a strain of bird flu, and another woman is reportedly in serious condition. The two contracted H5N6, a strain of bird flu that has so far only been seen in people in China. A press officer at Shenzhen’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the death of the local woman on Dec. 30. He wouldn’t identify himself. A 40-year-old woman also from Guangdong province is in serious condition in hospital, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. Six human cases of H5N6 have been reported in total, all in China, since May 2014. The virus has been detected in poultry in China, Lao and Vietnam. The World Health Organization says that human cases of bird flu remain uncommon, with sporadic cases occurring following exposure to infected poultry or a contaminated environment. WASHINGTON — Leading business groups, often at odds with President Barack Obama, are looking to give momentum to one of his priorities before he leaves office: approval of a trade pact linking 12 nations along the Pacific Rim that make up 40 percent of the world economy.

Republican governor of Michigan, said his organization is hoping Congress will approve the pact before it heads home for its August recess. “The hope is to send the signal now that we’re getting pretty comfortable with the agreement and let’s get ready to give it serious consideration,” Engler told The Associated Press. The trade agreement took more than five years to stitch together. Participating nations would reduce or eliminate thousands of tariffs that apply to foreign-made goods. The agreement also rolls back regulatory requirements, such as the need

to establish an office in a particular country or partner with a local entity, in order to access their markets. Several presidential candidates in both parties as well as members of Congress have panned the TransPacific Partnership since agreement on the deal’s terms was announced in October. Donald Trump said it’s a “terrible deal.” Democrat Hillary Clinton said “it didn’t meet my standards.” That’s led to questions about whether Congress would pass the trade pact, even though lawmakers just last year passed legislation designed to speed TPP’s passage without the threat of amendments or filibuster. Support from business groups could ease some lawmakers’ concerns about the political environment. The trade group representing

manufacturers came out with its endorsement Monday. The group’s president and CEO, Jay Timmons, said that without the agreement, the United States would be ceding economic leadership to other global powers, letting them set the rules of economic engagement in the region. The group has frequently clashed with the Obama administration over new environmental regulations and recently sued to stop stricter limits on smog-causing pollution. Labor unions have come out overwhelmingly against the trade agreement, saying it will drive wages down, and it’s clear that for Obama to get a legacy-setting victory, he’ll have to rely on the Republican party to push the legislation to victory. He said not all members of the Business Roundtable supported TPP, but there was broad consensus. “We cannot have a robust economy if the goal is to make things here and sell it to ourselves,” Engler said. The circuit breaker was more of an accelerant for the fall,” Northeast Securities analyst Shen Zhengyang told AFP. On Tuesday the market watchdog, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, sought to calm the panic by defending the measure. “The circuit breaker has a big impact in stabilising the market and its main function is to provide a ‘cooling off period’ for the market to avoid or reduce rushed decisions made during wide swings,” it said in a statement. Shanghai fell a further three percent at the open Tuesday before swinging from red to green and finally ending 0.3 percent lower. He said molten lava was seen flowing down along the eastern slope of the mountain. “Molten lava can be seen flowing from the peak down the eastern side of the mountain and a crumbling sound was heard coming from the mountain’s peak,” he said. Joppie said he was still awaiting reports from the monitoring posts about areas that were vulnerable to the impact of the eruption. “We are still waiting for information regarding the development from monitoring posts. MAGUWOHARJO - Men in tribal dress stand amid dense jungle on the Indonesian island of Java, their bodies covered in elaborate, traditional tattoos inspired by cultures in distant corners of the vast, tropical archipelago. Many images on display at the recent tattoo festival that brought the men together were not applied with fast, modern machines, but using a centuries-old, tribal method that involves artists gently tapping a stick mounted with a needle on a subject’s skin. The practice known as “handtapping” had almost faded out completely, as modernity overwhelmed Indonesia’s tribes and younger generations eschewed their ancestors’ ways, but tattoo artists have in recent years been driving a revival as more and

more people seek to reconnect with the past. “There is a growing trend now, there are more people who want to learn about traditional tattooing -- I am very happy about it,” said Herpianto Hendra, a tattoo artist who uses the ancient method and is a member of Borneo’s Dayak tribespeople. “I am proud that my culture is being recognised.” The body art ranges from flowers inspired by Dayak tattoos that mark the coming of age, to narrow, black lines running across the body, like those of indigenous peoples from a remote scattering of islands in western Indonesia. The festival earlier this month in Maguwoharjo village in Java’s cultural heartland gathered people from across Indonesia and the world

at the studio of celebrated Indonesian tattoo artist Durga, a leading figure in the revival. Durga has championed tattoos from the western Mentawai islands, home to a semi-nomadic tribespeople famed for their body art and the practice of sharpening their teeth, which they believe makes them more beautiful. Mentawai tattoos, generally long lines looping over the shoulders and chest and more elaborate patterns on feet and hands, were long part of local culture and signified the tribespeople’s close links to nature. The other well known body art from Indonesia is found among the Dayaks, an array of semi-nomadic tribes who traditionally lived in the jungles and mountains of vast, biodiverse Borneo island shared between Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.

Their tattoos featured thick, black lines forming images inspired by nature, such as flowers, leaves and animals, that mark a person’s journey through life. Before head-hunting was banned, Dayaks also received tattoos on their hands if they decapitated an enemy. While not as well known, other indigenous groups also have tattooing traditions, such as those in the eastern Maluku Islands and the central island of Sumba. But the tradition has been waning for decades, after Christian missionaries and the Indonesian government sought to discourage what they saw as outdated, tribal practices, and as younger tribespeople moved away from villages to rapidly growing cities in search of better jobs and education.

Lars Krutak, an American tattoo anthropologist, said people are drawn to ancient Indonesian designs as they are “unique, beautiful and deeply spiritual”. “People living in big cities want to be rooted to something meaningful, especially if they plan to wear these tattoos on their bodies for the rest of their lives,” said Krutak, who has written an entry on Durga for the “World Atlas of Tattoo”, which features 100 tattoo artists. Despite signs of a revival in some areas, experts warn that tattooing styles of tribes in more remote places could be forgotten. “I fear this ancient traditional and artistic knowledge will soon be lost forever unless a concerted effort is made to record it immediately,” said Krutak. Thai police websites hacked by group demanding justice

BANGKOK — Hackers have taken over several police websites in Thailand, replacing the home pages with a message saying, “Failed Law. We want Justice!” The online attack took place late Monday. Several police websites were either offline or still displayed the message demanding justice Tuesday evening.

Home pages were replaced with a black screen that showed a white mask and blanked-out eyes and the hashtag #Boycott Thailand. A police spokesman said authorities were investigating the hack, which targeted websites of regional police forces across the country and a variety of police agencies. (ap)

PATHANKOT — An Indian official says six gunmen who attacked an air force base near the country’s border with Pakistan have been killed, and that an operation is underway to secure the compound. Seven Indian troops were also killed in the attack. Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar also said Tuesday that no military hardware was damaged in the fighting at the Pathankot base, which has a fleet of India’s Russianorigin MiG-21 fighter jets and Mi25 and Mi-35 attack helicopters. The attack began before dawn Saturday and dragged on as government troops struggled to contain the heavily armed attackers in the sprawling compound. At least twice it appeared that the attack had ended, but fresh gunfire and explosions erupted both times. The attack took place despite early intelligence warnings. Indian forces searched Tuesday for the last of six suspected gunmen who attacked an air force base near the Pakistan border and killed seven government troops in the nearly four-day siege. Air force spokeswoman Rochelle D’Silva said Tuesday “there has been no firing since Monday night at the base.” Indian security forces

say they have killed five attackers, the fifth on Monday, and believe one remains on Pathankot air force base’s sprawling premises. In the first apparent claim of responsibility, the United Jehad Council, an alliance of 13 Kashmir-based rebel groups, claimed its “highway squad” stormed the base. Alliance spokesman Syed Sadaqat Hussain issued a statement to Current News Service, based in the Indian portion of Kashmir, saying the attack carried a message for India that no security establishment was out of the militants’ reach. India without delay “should provide an opportunity to the people of Kashmir to decide their future,” Hussain said. India accuses Pakistan of arming and training insurgents in its portion of Kashmir. MADRID — Real Madrid fired coach Rafa Benitez after only seven months on Monday and replaced him with its former star player Zinedine Zidane. Club president Florentino Perez announced the decision at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Monday, a day after Madrid’s 2-2 draw at Valencia deepened a crisis that started with an embarrassing 4-0 home loss to rival Barcelona in November. “We have to do our best so that the team is able to win something,” said Zidane. “I’m going to put all my heart into Real Madrid.” Madrid has won seven of nine matches since the demoralizing defeat to Barcelona but fans continued to demand the departure of Benitez, whose Liverpool side won the Champions League in 2005. Real Madrid is third in the Spanish league, four points behind leader Atletico Madrid and two behind Barcelona, which has a game in hand. France soccer great Zidane, who was Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant in 2014 when Real Madrid won the Champions League, has been coaching Madrid’s “B’’ team in the third division.
