By December 2011, they had split and in February, they divorced. The film shows Brand early on, happily visiting Perry backstage and picking her up in his car. But soon he disappears from the story, and Perry begins to suffer emotional breakdowns and fits of crying while her team of handlers seems helpless. Based on data in the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali, the rate of poor people on the Island of the Gods until March 2012 reached 168,780 people, consisting of 91,440 people living in urban areas and 77,340 people in rural areas.

The Head of BPS Bali, Gede Suarsa, said that percentage of poor people in Bali in March 2012 reached 4.18 percent or slightly decrease 0.02 percent if compared to March 2011 reaching 4.20 percent. “With the adequately high economic growth, Bali has managed to reduce the rate of poor people even though relatively a few,” said Gede Suarsa in Denpasar. He said that food commodities had the lion’s share namely 70.05 percent compared to non-food commodities only reaching 29.95 percent toward the formation of poverty line in Bali. Meanwhile, the poverty line in Bali in March 2012 increased by 7.22 percent, from IDR 233, 172 in March 2011 to IDR 249,997 in March 2012. “Poverty line in urban and rural

areas increased in that period. Urban increased 6.99 percent, while the poverty line in rural areas increased 7.66 per cent,” he explained. Government programs implemented during the development so far had paid a great attention to the fight against the poverty eradication. However, Suarsa said that poverty issue was still a longdrawn problem. Even, Bali known as a world tourist destination had not yet been able to escape from the issue. Chairman of the Indonesian Economist Association (ISEI) of Bali, Prof. Dr. Ketut Rahyuda, said the economic growth of Bali was shored up by consumption sector, both domestic and government consumption, triggered the high rate of poverty. Closure of Jalan Gajah Mada due to paving block installation project did not only cause severe congestion. It also reaped a protest from traders in Kumbasari Market. Since the closure of some road sections on Friday night (Jun 29), more and more complaints were coming. Such condition was confirmed by Director of PD Pasar Denpasar, Made Westra, when met at the sidelines of the preparation for the inauguration ceremony of the Gunung Agung Market, Monday (Jul 2). Since the closure of the road section a few days ago, Westra admitted to receive many complaints from the traders. “Almost all the traders complained to us. They complain about the difficulty to supply goods to the traders in the market. We understand about their complaints because such condition surely had an impact on their activities and sales,” he said. According to him, perishable goods like vegetables, fruits and flowers potentially caused huge loss because they quickly turned rotten if they were too long exposed to the sunlight. His party had passed the issues to Transportation Agency as well as Spatial Planning and Housing Agency (DTRP) of Denpasar. “If the traffic congestion problem cannot be immediately resolved, it

will surely result in greater losses,” he said. Complaints of the traders and residents about the congestion were also responded by the Head of Denpasar Transportation Agency, Gde Astika. His party would reverse the traffic flow on Jalan Gunung Kawi. The change of traffic flow on Jalan Gunung Kawi was the first solution that would be tried. “Motorists from Jalan Gajah Mada will be directed southwards to Jalan Hassanudin,” he said. Related to traffic lights that did not work properly, Astika said that to regulate the traffic flow in the area, his party did not need to turn them on. “We do not need to turn on the traffic lights in the intersection of Jalan Gunung Kawi-Jalan Hassanudin because we will assign an officer until the night. Likewise, we will also be assisted by police officer,” he said. His party would arrange the flow on Jalan Thamrin from one-way traffic to two-way traffic. “We will

do so if the traffic shows an increase in the flow of vehicles, depending on the real situation in the field,” he said. However, due to language constraint many job seekers from Bali ultimately failed while undergoing the tests. Division Head of Placement Preparation of BNP2TKI, Alimansur Harahap, Monday (Jul 2) in Denpasar said the opportunity to work as nurse and homecare worker in Japan was getting more widely open with the presence of Government to Government (G to G) program between Indonesia and Japan. Alimansur presented that from 2008 to 2012, there had been 396 nurses and 503 homecare workers from Indonesia sent to Japan. A nurse and homecare worker in Japan would receive a salary around IDR 10 million to IDR 20 million. Explained, the requirements to work as a nurse and homecare worker in Japan the applicant should be at least graduated from Diploma 3 in nursing, had two-year experience and mastered Japanese language. Alimansur added that job opportunities in Japan were getting more widely open but could not be optimized by workers from Indonesia. It was caused by the language factor so that job seekers often failed when tested. According to him, nursing school or health academy rarely provided the subject of Japanese language to their students. “Therefore, we expect the nursing school and health academy in Bali can provide Japanese language subject to their students,” he said. He also asked the local governments to intensively disseminate the program because it was also an effort to reduce the rate of educated unemployment. Meanwhile, the Head of Bali Work Force Agency, Wayan Wiratha, recognized that nurses from Bali who had been working in Japan remained minimal. Up to 2011, only 11 people could be sent to Japan. According to him, it was not caused by the lack of interest or poor technical quality of the job seekers but because of language barriers so that they did not pass the test. To that end, he also expected the nursing and health academy in Bali could provide the students with the curriculum of sufficient Japanese language education considering the high job opportunities in Japan. “It’s time to adjust the curriculum to the demand of job market,” he said. Furthermore, he said the job opportunity in the field of paramedic in Bali was indeed still adequate. However, in line with the increase of students majoring in nursing and healthcare, it was worried that in few years to come it would be difficult to accommodate them in the local job market. On that account, the nursing and health academy were encouraged to prepare their graduates with international qualification so that they could compete in foreign job market such as in Japan. Wiratha also expected the data collection and recruitment of migrant workers from Bali could be organized in the regency/municipality so that the Bali Work Force Agency had valid data. The Head of BP3TKI Denpasar, Wayan Pageh, said that in the recruitment and placement of the Bali’s workers overseas in the future should be established a synergy between the central government, in this case the BP3TKI Denpasar, Bali Work Force Agency as well as the regency/municipality to anticipate the problems that might occur. According to him, the data collection and recruitment should indeed be carried out by the regency/ municipality government so that it just needed to send the data to central government. “Regency/municipality government should aggressively inform the public about the procedures and requirements of working overseas, along with their rights and obligations,” he said. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Evidence of ‘God particle’ found

GENEVA — Physicists say they have all but proven that the “God particle” exists. They have a footprint and a shadow, and the only thing left is to see for themselves the elusive subatomic particle believed to give all matter in the universe size and shape. Scientists at the world’s biggest atom smasher plan to announce Wednesday that they have nearly confirmed the primary plank of a theory that could restructure the understanding of why matter has mass, which combines with gravity to give an object weight. The idea is much like gravity and Isaac Newton’s discovery: It was there all the time before Newton explained it. But now scientists know what it is and can put that knowledge to further use. The focus of the excitement is the Higgs boson, a subatomic particle long sought by physicists. Researchers at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, say that they have compiled vast amounts of data that show the footprint and shadow of the particle, even though it has never actually been glimpsed. But two independent teams of

physicists are cautious after decades of work and billions of dollars spent. They don’t plan to use the word “discovery.” They say they will come as close as possible to a “eureka” announcement without overstating their findings. “I agree that any reasonable outside observer would say, ‘It looks like a discovery,’” said British theoretical physicist John Ellis, a professor at King’s College London who has worked at CERN since the 1970s. “We’ve discovered something which is consistent with being a Higgs.” CERN’s atom smasher, the $10 billion Large Hadron Collider on the Swiss-French border, has been creating high-energy collisions of protons to investigate dark matter, antimatter and the creation of the universe, which many theorize occurred in a massive explosion known as the Big Bang.

Australia’s Olympic athletes will be banned from using sleeping pills, officials said Tuesday, after ex-swimming star Grant Hackett admitted to a heavy use of the sedatives while he was still competing. Australian Olympic Committee chief John Coates said prescription medications such as the powerful sleeping pill Stilnox would be banned for the first time at London after Hackett said he had developed a “heavy reliance” on the drug. The AOC on Monday decided to amend its team medical manual “to make it absolutely unequivocal that we do not condone and indeed we prohibit the use of Stilnox by our athletes”, Coates said. In North America the drug is marketed as Ambien. Team doctors are being advised about the changes, which will also emphasise potential problems with caffeine use, and each discipline’s squad will be briefed as they enter the Olympic village, Coates added. “We are very worried about the vicious cycle of athletes taking caffeine as a performance enhancer and then needing to take drugs such as Stilnox to get to sleep,” he told reporters in Sydney. “We’ve done this because our primary obligation, our overriding obligation, is to protect the health of our athletes.” Officials will also have the power to search athletes’ belongings if they are suspected of using sleeping pills and disciplinary action including suspension or early return to Australia could follow.

At least 50 percent of the grains served in U.S. public school lunches must now be whole grains, according to legislation that went into effect Sunday (July 1). In fact, school lunches are in the midst of a makeover — real fruit is replacing frozen fruit bars, pizza is being made with whole wheat crust and sweet potato fries are being substituted for tater tots — all part of an effort aimed at lowering rates of childhood obesity. The changes to school lunch menus grew out of a joint effort by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and first lady Michelle Obama’s campaign against childhood obesity, and were passed as part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which became law in January. Implementation of the changes, which include limits on fat and salt and heftier servings of fruits and veggies, will continue into 2014. Increasing the amount of whole grains in lunches will help ensure that kids get more nutrients than they would from refined-grain foods, which often contain added sugar and salt, said Dr. Jatinder Bhatia, chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics committee on nutrition. These additives can make children constantly crave these flavors. “If you’re just eating the natural fruits and veggies, then you’re less likely to add salt to your French fries,” Bhatia said. Aside from the adults, school children also filled in their long holiday this year by becoming a clove flower harvester. The money earned would be used to purchase their school supplies. Kekeran village, Busungbiu subdistrict, is one of the villages in Buleleng becoming the center of clove producer. This village has a number of Subak Abian (non-irrigated farmer group) with commodities dominated by clove, coffee and cacao. When entering the clove harvest season, many people get a seasonal job opportunity as a worker to pick clove flower or to separate clove stems that have been harvested. Price of the service is quite expensive compared to other chores. A worker of clove picker with equipment of bamboo ladder will be paid IDR70,000 and without a bamboo ladder will be IDR 60,000 per day. On average, a seasonal worker can pick maximally 30 kg. It highly depends on the condition of plants or density of flowers. Meanwhile, the rate of worker separating the clove flower from its stem is IDR 1,000 per kilogram. One of the local farmers, Wayan Mutra, when met in his garden on Monday (Jul 2) said

Today, the raw clove was sold for IDR 30,000 per kilogram. At his village, most farmers sold their clove in raw condition. Additionally, immediate need of money also forced them to sell cloves in raw condition. “Moreover, now it’s time for children to enroll their school, so the freshly harvested cloves are immediately sold. By doing so, we can have cash for the preparation of school children,” he explained. Meanwhile, the information gathered in the secretariat of the Indonesia Clove Growers Association (APCI) of Bali mentioned that harvest season of this month belonged to the relatively small harvest. Unemployment hit its highest point since the eurozone was created in 1999 and analysts warned that job queues would likely continue to lengthen in coming months. “It now looks odds-on that the eurozone unemployment rate will reach 11.5 percent by the end of the year, although the situation will vary markedly between countries,” forecast Howard Archer, chief economist at IHS Global Insight. More than 17.5 million people were jobless in the 17-nation eurozone in May, as 88,000 more men and women lined up for benefits. Spain was the hardest hit with almost one in four unemployed, according to Eurostat data agency. Youth unemployment surged again, with 3.4 million people under 25 looking for work, an increase of 254,000 from 12 months earlier. “It was of little real comfort that May’s rise in unemployment was actually the smallest for 11 months,” Archer noted. Capital Economics economist Mark Miller noted that “the labour market is a lagging indicator of overall economic conditions. So it is of particular concern that recent business surveys have pointed to renewed recession across the euro-zone,” he said. Both the employment data and bleak manufacturing PMI figures raised the risk of eurozone unemployment reaching 12 percent, van Vliet commented. The eurozone unemployment rate has stayed above 10 percent for 13 months as the bloc struggles to revive economies undermined by a debt crisis now in its third year and threatening major economies in Spain and Italy. In the wider 27-nation European Union, unemployment rose to 10.3 percent against 10.2 in April, the same level as in March. About 24.86 million men and women were jobless in the EU as unemployment increased by 151,000 people. Spain posted once again the worst unemployment rate at 24.6 percent, with more than one in two people under 25 without work. Greece was next at 21.9 percent in March, the latest available figures for that country, followed by Latvia at 15.3 percent in the first quarter and Portugal at 15.2 percent in May. Austria has the lowest rate at 4.1 percent, followed by the Netherlands at 5.1 percent, Luxembourg at 5.4 percent and Germany at 5.6 percent.

Ayurvedic medicine refers to the contents of the scripture Ayurveda born thousands of years ago. Ayurvedic scripture denotes a part of Upaweda in the group of Smriti Vedas. However, the Ayurvedic scripture is often confused with Yajur Veda, the scripture containing sacrificial formula that also belongs to Smriti Veda. Yajur Veda itself is a scripture discussing about Yajña or ceremony. Author of the book Usada Bali (Balinese Traditional Healing), the late Prof. IGN Nala, once said that to help the healing, the Ayurvedic healers usually provided natural herbal medicine having few side effects. Almost all plants existing around us could be eaten, they were medicine. On that account, all plants having efficacy for healing were necessary to be inventoried and developed. In the meantime, the Dean of Faculty of Health Science, Hindu University of Indonesia (Unhi), I Nyoman Prastika, said that based Taru Premana palm-manuscript there were a number of beneficial herbs having the efficacy to cure diseases. Parts of those plants taken advantage consisted of its leaf, flower, fruit, bark or roots. Each herb had different quality such as cool, warm and mild. To know whether a particular plant had a cold, warm or mild quality, it could be observed from the color of its flower and flavor. For instance, white, yellow and green flower had warm quality. The rest of the 2 million displaced are living with relatives or sheltering under tarpaulin sheets. Assam officials say 81 people have been killed over the past four days. Most were swept away when the mighty Brahmaputra River overflowed and flooded villages. Sixteen people were buried in landslides triggered by the rains. At least 11 people were missing in six districts, the state disaster management agency said. Air force helicopters were dropping food packets and drinking water to marooned people, Singh said after surveying the flood-hit districts.

Army soldiers used boats to rescue villagers from rooftops of flooded homes. Teams of doctors have opened health clinics in the 770 relief camps that had been set up across Assam, one of India’s main teagrowing states. The hilly tea growing areas have not been affected, but lower rice fields have been washed away. Thousands of cattle have perished after being swept away by the raging water or getting stuck in the mud. The stench of rotting animal carcasses was adding to the woes of the people in tents at the relief camps, officials said. In the worst-hit Dhemaji district, raging waters of the Brahmaputra River swept away entire villages. Officials said the entire Majuli island, one of the world’s largest river islands, was awash as

the Brahmaputra rose above the danger level. “This is one of the worst floods to hit Assam,” Singh said. He announced the national government would give immediate assistance of 5 billion rupees ($90 million) to the state. Railway workers were working round the clock to restore train services disrupted after railway tracks became submerged. “Restoration of the railway line is a priority,” Singh said. The situation was expected to improve over the next few days as the rain was tapering off and water was beginning to recede. Monsoon floods hit Assam, with a population of 26 million people, almost every year, with heavy rains swelling the Brahmaputra and its innumerable tributaries that crisscross the state.

VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI fired a 52-year-old Slovak bishop for apparently mismanaging his diocese in a rare show of papal power over bishops that could have implications for U.S. sex abuse cases. Usually when bishops run into trouble — either for alleged moral lapses or management problems — they are persuaded by the Vatican to resign. But Benedict has become increasingly willing to forcibly remove bishops who refuse to step down, sacking three others in the past year alone. His willingness to do so raises questions about whether he would take the same measures against bishops who covered up for sexually abusive priests. So far he has not. In the most notable case to date, Benedict fired Bishop William Morris of Toowoomba, Australia, last year after he called for the church to consider ordaining women and married men. He also removed a Congolese bishop for management problems in his diocese and an Italian one in May for similar reasons. JAKARTA - Indonesia said Tuesday it had pulled out of a $280 million deal to buy 100 Leopard battle tanks from the Netherlands after waiting several months for the Dutch parliament to approve the sale. The Netherlands’ minority government planned to sell the tanks to raise money for unmanned drones, but the majority of parties in parliament opposed the deal because of Jakarta’s poor human rights record, Dutch media reported. “We are disappointed because we were serious in wanting to buy the Dutch tanks,” defence ministry spokesman Hartind Asrin told AFP. “We had gone to the warehouse to look at them and they were good. The price was also right, at around $280 million.” “The Dutch government was agreeable to the deal, but the Dutch parliament kept us waiting. There was still no approval after eight to nine months of waiting, so last week we called off the deal,” he said. Indonesia -- much of which was a Dutch colony until 1945 -- would now buy the 100 tanks from Germany for around the same price, he added. “Around 15 units are expected to arrive in Indonesia by October this year,” Asrin said. Canberra is struggling to deal with a steady influx of asylum-seekers coming to Australia by boat, many of whom use Indonesia as a transit hub, boarding leaky wooden vessels after fleeing states such as Afghanistan and Iran. In a second sinking just days after after the June 21 incident, 130 people were rescued and four were lost. Although they travel in relatively small numbers by global standards, asylum-seekers are a sensitive political issue in Australia, dominating 2010 elections due to a record 6,555 arrivals. EUGENE, Ore. — Jeneba Tarmoh changed her mind after listening to her heart. Choosing inner peace over a shot at Olympic glory, the 22-year-old sprinter withdrew from a runoff for the final Olympic spot in the 100 meters, deciding to concede it rather than meet training partner Allyson Felix at the starting line to break a third-place tie. With that, the U.S. track trials were over. The final spot determined before the highly anticipated race was run. Tarmoh notified USA Track and Field early in the day of her intention to withdraw from the Monday night race. Her heart, she explained, wasn’t into competing again. Not after already securing what she thought was the third spot in the event at the trials on June 23. In that race, Tarmoh crossed the finish line and looked up to see her name on the scoreboard in the third spot behind winner Carmelita Jeter and runner-up Tianna Madison. And then came all the rewards of making the Olympic team — a celebratory lap around the track and a medal. Once her medical condition has been assessed a further statement will be issued.” De Villota, the daughter of former Spanish Formula One driver Emilio De Villota, was given a test drive by Renault last year and has previously raced in Spanish Formula Three and the Daytona 24 Hours. Marussia began racing in 2010 under the Virgin banner. The team rebranded as Marussia in 2012, with Charles Pic driving alongside Timo Glock. The team has struggled to make any impression on the championship however, failing to score any points this season.
