According to E! Online, a judge has denied the actress’ request to move to France with her 4-year-old daughter Nahla. It is a win for Nahla’s father, Berry’s ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.

DENPASAR - Bali Government has not given any reaction and response to the issuance of recommendation in order the Governor of Bali cancelled the cooperation between the Bali Government and PT Tirta Rahmat Bahari based on the permit on the utilization of mangrove forest in the area of Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura), Denpasar.

Spokesperson of Bali Government, Ketut Teneng, had not given clear answer whether the Governor of Bali would undertake the recommendation or the permit would continue. After waiting for nearly an hour in his office on Monday (Nov 12), Ketut Teneng refused to be interviewed and asked reporters to write down the questions.

“Simply write down what you’d like to ask. Probably, it (the answer) cannot be given today,” said Teneng to reporters.

Even, when asking to give a few comments on the issuance of the recommendation, Teneng claimed if he could not respond it and he hurried to attend a meeting.

Even, Teneng claimed not to know exactly whether the recommendation letter had been received by the Bali Government. “I will check it first whether it has been received,” he said briefly. As known, Chairman of the Bali House, AA Ngurah Oka Ratmadi or familiarly known as Cok Rat, had issued a recommendation to Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika, to revoke the permit on the utilization of mangrove forest by investor covering 102.22 hectares of land in the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park at Suwung Kauh, Denpasar.

The recommendation letter No. 593/3630/DPRD dated November 7, 2012, addressed to the

Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika, was also forwarded to the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Chairmen of the Bali House and the Regent/ Mayor throughout Bali.

The recommendation carried two points. Firstly, it asked the Governor of Bali to cancel the cooperation between the Bali Government and PT Tirtha Rahmat Bahari as set forth in the Governor Decree No. 1.051/03-L/HK/2012. Secondly, it requested the Governor of Bali and the House to always make coordination in making policy related to the utilization and management of mangrove forests in the territory of Bali Province. Based on information of residents, a total of 14 people had been bitten by two dogs alleged to suffer from rabies.

According to residents, the officers of relevant agency had taken the sample of the rabid dog brain and it was known to be positive to rabies.

However, such incident repeated again on Sunday (Nov 11) around the local Morning Market. A small dog ran amuck and attacked at least seven people who were shopping.

According to information, the dog was owned by local resi-

dent and escaped on Saturday night. “Previously, the dog also bit the owner. Then, it escaped and attacked residents in the vicinity of the Morning Market,” said a resident met on Monday (Nov 12).

Hamlet Chief of Baler Bale Agung, I Ketut Sumadiasa, said the six people becoming the victims of the dog bite had been treated with anti-rabies vaccine (VAR). Similarly, the residents who were bitten by dogs in the Morning Market had also been given such a vaccine. One of the residents bitten at the Morning Market was a child of six years old.

Meanwhile, the Head of Jembrana Health Agency, I Putu Suasta, confirmed the rabid dog bite cases at Baler Bale Agung. According to him, the incident should be taken seriously. His party appealed to surrounding residents to eliminate the stray dogs, while the pet dogs should be administered with vaccine. (kmb26)

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land.

Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

For cholesterol tests, fasting may not be required Reuters

NEW YORK - Most people getting their cholesterol checked may not need to fast beforehand, a new Canadian study suggests.

Researchers found the blood tests showed similar average total cholesterol and “good” HDL cholesterol readings, in particular, regardless of whether patients had eaten recently or avoided food for more than eight hours, as is typically recommended.

Eliminating the fasting requirement before cholesterol tests would be more convenient for patients and for labs, which often get slammed

with tests in the morning when most fasting patients come in, researchers said.

“There are logistic challenges when you’re going to get a fasting sample on everybody,” said Dr. J. Michael Gaziano, who wrote a commentary accompanying the new study.

“It makes long lines and it makes long waiting times, and if that in any way discourages patients from

having these tests done, then that’s another downside,” Gaziano, a preventive cardiologist at VA Boston Healthcare System and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, told Reuters Health.

Requiring a fasting cholesterol test may also mean patients have to return for lab work after their initial appointment - and some may not come back, Gaziano pointed out.

PARIS - The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on Monday called for wider efforts to tackle the use of banned substances in sport, warning that lack of funding was hampering its fight against increasingly sophisticated cheating.

“With $25-30 million (20-24 million euros of funding) a year, WADA’s budget is less than some European footballers earn,” the organisation’s director-general

David Howman told a conference in Paris.

“The (Lance) Armstrong affair especially has shown that we’re dealing with a more and more highly developed process, a real conspiracy, with unwarranted pressures on teams,” he added, referring to the shamed US cyclist.

“WADA isn’t in a position to tackle this type of sophisticated cheating.”

Howman and others said that in the wake of the Armstrong scan-

dal, which saw the Texan stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from the sport for life, anti-doping agencies had to work more closely with the pharmaceutical industry.

The president of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, added: “The fight against doping is too big for a single organisation to tackle on its own.”

One way that the industry had helped so far was by making available to WADA samples of

The complaint was heard by Deputy Regent Kembang in the interactive dialog of the Regent and Deputy Regent of Jembrana at some villages. A resident from Asahduren, Pekutatan subdistrict, I Nyoman Puter, whose wife is Ni Wayan Badri, complained about the attitude of the hospital front office staff because his wife was rejected as bringing no JKBM paperwork.

Similar complaint was also revealed by resident in the interactive dialog at a number of other villages.

Kembang came to hospital when the employees were attending flag ceremony. At front office, the Deputy Regent reprimanded the female employees not to talk frugally. “Give an explanation to public, do not talk efficiently,” affirmed Kembang.

Thompson starts as NY Times CEO amid BBC scandal Associated Press

NEW YORK — New York Times Co. CEO Mark Thompson started his job Monday amid a widening scandal at his former employer, the BBC. When the Times hired him in August, Thompson was hailed as someone who could help the company at a time when print publications are suffering from the loss of readers and advertisers.

Thompson, 55, left the British Broadcasting Corp. in September after more than three decades with the public broadcaster. He joined the company as a production trainee in 1979 and spent his last eight years there as director general.

In recent months, Thompson has faced questions over a decision by the BBC’s “Newsnight” program last December to shelve an investigation into child sexualabuse allegations against renowned BBC children’s television host Jimmy Savile. That decision was made while Thompson was still in charge of the company.

Thompson has said he only became aware of the investigative report after speaking with a BBC journalist at a cocktail party long after it had been canceled. When

he inquired later about its cancellation, he said executives told him it had been terminated for journalistic reasons.

Savile, who died in October 2011, was known for his eccentricity, garish tracksuits and Cuban cigars. Early last month, BBC rival ITV aired a documentary that detailed sexual abuse allegations against Savile. Since then, scores of women have come forward, alleging that they were abused by Savile when they were underage girls, sometimes in BBC dressing rooms.

In the latest twist, Thompson’s successor as the BBC’s top executive, George Entwistle, resigned on Saturday after a Nov. 2 “Newsnight” report wrongly implied that a former British politician sexually abused a child.

After the Savile scandal broke, Times Chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. sent the company’s staff a letter that said he was satisfied Thompson had no role in the decision to scrap the investigative segment on Savile.

The Times Co. did not make Thompson available for interviews on Monday. A spokesman said he spent his first day on the job meeting with employees and learning the company.

Forecasters were predicting cloudy skies around dawn Wednesday, when the moon will pass between the sun and Earth and plunge a slice of the continent’s northeast into darkness.

Many worried that they will miss a rare chance to view the celestial phenomenon.

clouds), but it’s just a matter of the luck of the draw whether you get a break at the right time,” said Queensland state Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Andrew Mostyn. “It’s a bit of bad luck.”

NEW YORK - Eastman Kodak Co said on Monday it has reached a $793 million financing deal with bondholders that could take the one-time photography giant out of bankruptcy.

The deal, which still needs bankruptcy court approval, will come in the form of new loans from Centerbridge Partners, GSO Capital Partners, UBS and JPMorgan Chase & Co, Kodak said in a statement.

The financing is contingent on the company receiving at least $500 million for a patent portfolio it has been trying to sell for more than a year, Kodak said.

The package should allow Kodak to emerge from bankruptcy in the first half of 2013, Antonio Perez, Kodak’s chief executive, said in the statement.

“The significance of this agreement for Kodak is that it establishes a clear path for our emergence as a stronger, more focused company,” Perez said.

Kodak will likely be a different company exiting bankruptcy than it was going in. In addition to selling its patent portfolio, Kodak must sell all or part of its document imaging and personalized imaging businesses in order to convert the loan into postbankruptcy financing.

That would mean a restructured

Kodak would largely be out of the consumer business, focused instead on its commercial imaging businesses.

Kodak filed for Chapter 11 protection in January in hopes of selling its intellectual property portfolio, but bids have been lower than hoped. It remains in talks for a patent sale with potential buyers, including Apple Inc and Google Inc. Kodak said in Monday’s statement it is “confident” the patents will fetch the $500 million required under terms of the loan.

The financing package is comprised of $467 million in new loans and $317 million in a dollar-for-dollar exchange for amounts outstanding under Kodak’s current notes.

The financing group beat out a separate contingent of second-lien bondholders that had offered financing, a person close to the matter told Reuters earlier.

Some second-lien holders on Monday filed court papers objecting to Kodak’s request to keep exclusive control of its bankruptcy process through February 28, a move that would allow it to seek court approval of the financing deal without other creditors being able to propose alternative plans.

Kodak said it hopes to gain court approval of the plan at a hearing sometime in December, but no date has been set.

Based on data by Central Statistic Agency (BPS) Bali’s rice production decreased by 11.578 tonnes of dried milled grain (down 1.35 percent) in 2012, where previously production also has experienced a decrease of 10.845 tonnes dried milled graintons (down 1.25 percent). The condition of decreased production in 2012 happens to quarter I (January-April) experienced a decrease of 9.90 percent (down 31.474 tons of dried milled grain) when compared to the same period of 2011.

Thus, the traders are required to maintain it well so that it will create a clean and hygiene fish market,” he explained.

Regent Eka Wiryastuti asserted that the pro-people program continued to be rolled out by Tabanan Government. Other than the plantation and agricultural program, the results of fishery were also given priority. With such integrated fish market, the predicate of Tabanan as the food granary of Bali was very appropriate. According to the regent, the potential of natural resources owned such as rice fields, mountains, lakes and the sea were so incredible.

She is not a U.S. government employee. Kelley is said to have received threatening emails from Broadwell, who is Petraeus’ biographer and who had an extramarital affair with Petraeus that reportedly began after he became CIA director in September 2011.

Allen, a four-star Marine general, succeeded Petraeus as the top American commander in Afghanistan in July 2011.

Oxford University Press on Tuesday crowned the word — defined as “a situation that has been comprehensively mismanaged, characterized by a string of blunders and miscalculations” — its top term of 2012.

Each year Oxford University Press tracks how the English language is changing and chooses a word that best reflects the mood of the year. The publisher typically chooses separate British and American winners. This year’s American champion is “gif,” short for graphics interchange format, a common format for images on the Internet.

Coined by writers of the satirical television show “The Thick of It,” omnishambles has been applied to everything from government PR blunders to the crisis-ridden preparations for the London Olympics. Oxford University Press lexicographer Susie Dent said the word was chosen for its popularity as well as its “linguistic productivity.”

She said “a notable coinage coming from the word is Romneyshambles” — a derisive term used by the British press after U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney expressed doubts about London’s ability to host a successful Olympics.

Omnishambles was chosen over shortlisted terms including “mummy porn” — the genre exemplified by the best-selling “50 Shades” book series — and “green-on-blue,” military attacks by forces regarded as neutral, as when members of the Afghan army or police attack foreign troops. (For American English speakers, it’s “mommy porn.”)

The Olympics offered up finalists including the verb “to medal,” ‘’Games Maker” — the name given to thousands of Olympic volunteers — and distance runner Mo Farah’s victory dance, “the Mobot.”

Europe’s financial crisis lent the shortlisted word “Eurogeddon,” while technology produced “second screening” — watching TV while simultaneously using a computer, phone or tablet — and social media popularized the acronym “YOLO,” you only live once.

The final shortlisted term is an old word given new life. “Pleb,” a derogatory epithet for lower-class people, was alleged to have been uttered to a police officer by British Cabinet minister Andrew Mitchell. He denied using the term, but resigned.

All the shortlisted words have made a splash in 2012, but editors say there is no guarantee any of them will endure long enough to enter the hallowed pages of the Oxford English Dictionary.

“We will first cooperate with the KPK in its investigation of this case,” he told the press on the sidelines of the inauguration of Police Officer Candidates School in Sukabumi, West Java, on Tuesday.

“The police must discuss the case with the KPK and I hope our law enforcement officers have not violated the law,” Pradopo said.

He added that the Supreme Court (MA) would ultimately decide whether there was any truth to the allegations of corruption against the police institution.

“We continue to cooperate with the KPK in uncovering all

cases of alleged corruption. The loss of motor vehicle plate project is still in the audit process,” Pradopo noted.

He pointed out that the police were also cooperating with the KPK in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of driving simulators.

The officers of National Police Criminal Investigations Division (Bareskrim) have submitted the case to the KPK. “The names of the suspects in connection with the simulator case cannot be revealed as yet because we are still in the process of gathering evidence and witnesses,” Pradopo explained.

JAKARTA - Three criticallyendangered Sumatran elephants found dead in Indonesia’s Riau province were probably poisoned in a revenge attack by palm oil plantation workers, an official said Monday.

The decomposing carcases of the female elephants, including a year-old baby, were found in a jungly area just outside the Tesso Nilo National Park in Riau province on Saturday, park chief Kupin Simbolon told AFP. “We believe they died a week earlier, from suspected poisoning,” he said.

“The elephants probably entered a palm oil plantation and destroyed the huts belonging to workers, who then sought revenge by poisoning them,” he added.

At least 17 elephants had died this year at the park and surrounding districts, mostly from suspected poisoning, Sim-

“The elephants are protected animals. We must not let this happen again. We are working with the police to hunt down the perpetrators in this latest case,” he added.

Indonesia is the world’s biggest palm oil producer and growing demand has put pressure on the nation’s already threatened tropical rain forests.

There are fewer than 3,000 Sumatran elephants remaining in the wild, according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, a 50 percent drop in numbers since 1985.

International conservation group WWF changed the Sumatran elephant’s status from “endangered” to “critically endangered” in January, largely due to severe habitat loss driven by palm oil and other plantations.

Armstrong steps down from Livestrong board

Lance Armstrong has stepped down as a board member of Livestrong, the cancer-support charity he founded in 1997, the organization said Monday.

“Lance Armstrong has chosen to voluntarily resign from the Board of Directors of the Livestrong Foundation to spare the organization any negative effects as a result of controversy surrounding his cycling career,” Livestrong chairman Jeff

Garvey said in a statement.

“We are deeply grateful to Lance for creating a cause that has served millions of cancer survivors and their families.”

Armstrong, a survivor of testicular cancer, had previously stepped down as Livestrong’s chairman.

The 41-year-old had his seven Tour de France victories nullified and was banned from cycling for life last month after the International

Cycling Union (UCI) ratified the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s (USADA) sanctions against him.

England captain Steven Gerrard has been passed fit for Wednesday’s friendly against Sweden after a scan on his knee and is set to become the sixth Englishman to win 100 caps.

FIFA reform talks on age, term limits, World Cup bids

A FIFA working group began talks Monday which could result in age and term limits for world football leaders, and change how World Cup hosts are chosen.

FIFA said a 10-point proposal will now be sent to national federations by the panel of chief executives and legal directors from FIFA and its six continental confederations.

The FIFA Congress of 209 countries is scheduled to meet next May and approve ongoing reforms, which were promised by president Sepp Blatter after a series of bribery and bidding scandals rocked the governing body.

Proposals under discussion include an upper age limit of 72 for FIFA election candidates and a two-term, eight-year limit for the presidency.

FIFA’s 209 member countries will likely be asked to choose future World Cup hosts instead of the FIFA executive committee, which was discredited by corruption allegations linked to the 2018 and 2022 bidding contests two years ago.

The panel is continuing work started by a statutes task force chaired by Theo Zwaniger, the former Germany federation leader who joined FIFA’s ruling committee on the same June 2011 day that Blatter, now 76, won a fourth term.

Zwanziger’s suggested changes include requiring all FIFA candidates to pass integrity checks before being allowed to stand for office.

Zwanziger wants Europe to give up two of its three FIFA vice presidencies, including one shared as a privilege by the four British federations.

For future World Cup hosts, Zwanziger’s task force proposed that the full Congress elects the winner from a three-bid slate presented by the executive committee. The next contest, to choose the 2026 host, is unlikely to be decided before 2018.

FIFA said the consultation started Monday will continue through January, and the executive committee is scheduled to publish a suggested slate of reforms in March. The FIFA Congress will vote at a May 31 meeting in Mauritius.

“Paris Saint-Germain are a lucky club, they have a lot of money,” Buffon stated. “However, in football, the richest do not always win.

Some clubs have less money, but they spend it better than those who have more, and the history of a club also counts a lot towards their status.

Felipe Massa says Ferrari teammate Fernando Alonso will drive in the charity karting race he hosts every year in Brazil.

It will be the first time Alonso participates in the “Internacional Challenge of the Stars” organized by Massa, who says he is also close to announcing that seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher and MotoGP star Valentino Rossi will compete.

Schumacher has twice won the charity race, which will take place Jan. 12-13 in the southern Brazilian city of Florianopolis.

Gerrard fit to win 100th cap v Sweden

England captain Steven Gerrard has been passed fit for Wednesday’s friendly against Sweden after a scan on his knee and is set to become the sixth Englishman to win 100 caps.

Gerrard took a knock during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday but the English Football Association said the midfielder would travel.

“Steven Gerrard has been cleared to travel with the England squad to Sweden having undergone a precautionary scan on Monday afternoon,” the FA said on their website (www. thefa.com).

The news will come as a relief to manager Roy Hodgson, whose squad has been depleted by the withdrawals of five players including Wayne Rooney and Theo

FIFA reform talks on age, term limits, World Cup bids

A FIFA working group began talks Monday which could result in age and term limits for world football leaders, and change how World Cup hosts are chosen.

FIFA said a 10-point proposal will now be sent to national federations by the panel of chief executives and legal directors from FIFA and its six continental confederations.

The FIFA Congress of 209 countries is scheduled to meet next May and approve ongoing reforms, which were promised by president Sepp Blatter after a series of bribery and bidding scandals rocked the governing body.

Proposals under discussion include an upper age limit of 72 for FIFA election candidates and a two-term, eight-year limit for the presidency.

FIFA’s 209 member countries will likely be asked to choose future World Cup hosts instead of the FIFA executive committee, which was discredited by corruption allegations linked to the 2018 and 2022 bidding contests two years ago.

The panel is continuing work started by a statutes task force chaired by Theo Zwaniger, the former Germany federation leader who joined FIFA’s ruling committee on the same June 2011 day that Blatter, now 76, won a fourth term.

Zwanziger’s suggested changes include requiring all FIFA candidates to pass integrity checks before being allowed to stand for office.

Zwanziger wants Europe to give up two of its three FIFA vice presidencies, including one shared as a privilege by the four British federations.

For future World Cup hosts, Zwanziger’s task force proposed that the full Congress elects the winner from a three-bid slate presented by the executive committee. The next contest, to choose the 2026 host, is unlikely to be decided before 2018.

FIFA said the consultation started Monday will continue through January, and the executive committee is scheduled to publish a suggested slate of reforms in March. The FIFA Congress will vote at a May 31 meeting in Mauritius.

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has likened Italy’s clash with France to a derby.

The Azzurri captain and veteran shotstopper is looking forward to Wednesday’s match between the traditional powers in Parma, and despite Les Blues not having the best of success in recent years, the 34-year-old is expecting a tough challenge from Didier Deschamps’ side.

“France remain a strong nation in European football, one that is always capable of playing at a high level,” Buffon told Le Parisien. “Playing against France is like playing a derby, there is a special taste that the fixture brings.”

Buffon also spoke about the impact of money on football, and claimed that no matter how much French power Paris Saint-Germain spends on players and transfer fees, the club cannot buy the history and tradition of Europe’s biggest clubs.

“Paris Saint-Germain are a lucky club, they have a lot of money,” Buffon stated. “However, in football, the richest do not always win.

health gave me extra strength that I wanted to play for him in a way.

“Now he’s much better and he’s recovering. He’s still in intensive care. I’m going to visit him tomorrow and see how it goes and try to bring a trophy with me and at least make him smile.”

Armstrong steps down from Livestrong board

Lance Armstrong has stepped down as a board member of Livestrong, the cancer-support charity he founded in 1997, the organization said Monday.

“Lance Armstrong has chosen to voluntarily resign from the Board of Directors of the Livestrong Foundation to spare the organization any negative effects as a result of controversy surrounding his cycling career,” Livestrong chairman Jeff

Garvey said in a statement.

“We are deeply grateful to Lance for creating a cause that has served millions of cancer survivors and their families.”

Armstrong, a survivor of testicular cancer, had previously stepped down as Livestrong’s chairman.

The 41-year-old had his seven Tour de France victories nullified and was banned from cycling for life last month after the International

Cycling Union (UCI) ratified the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s (USADA) sanctions against him.

Livestrong spokeswoman Katherine McLane told Reuters that Armstrong “remains the inspiration” for the charity and is its largest donor, having contributed $7 million.

Kelley is said to have received threatening emails from Broadwell, who is Petraeus’ biographer and who had an extramarital affair with Petraeus that reportedly began after he became CIA director in September 2011.

Coined by writers of the satirical television show “The Thick of It,” omnishambles has been applied to everything from government PR blunders to the crisis-ridden preparations for the London Olympics. Oxford University Press lexicographer Susie Dent said the word was chosen for its popularity as well as its “linguistic productivity.”

She said “a notable coinage coming from the word is Romneyshambles” — a derisive term used by the British press after U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney expressed doubts about London’s ability to host a successful Olympics.

JAKARTA - Three criticallyendangered Sumatran elephants found dead in Indonesia’s Riau province were probably poisoned in a revenge attack by palm oil plantation workers, an official said Monday.

The decomposing carcases of the female elephants, including a year-old baby, were found in a jungly area just outside the Tesso Nilo National Park in Riau province on Saturday, park chief Kupin Simbolon told AFP. “We believe they died a week earlier, from suspected poisoning,” he said.

“The elephants probably entered a palm oil plantation and destroyed the huts belonging to workers, who then sought revenge by poisoning them,” he added.

At least 17 elephants had died this year at the park and surrounding districts, mostly from suspected poisoning, Sim-

bolon said.

“The elephants are protected animals. We must not let this happen again. We are working with the police to hunt down the perpetrators in this latest case,” he added.

Indonesia is the world’s biggest palm oil producer and growing demand has put pressure on the nation’s already threatened tropical rain forests.

There are fewer than 3,000 Sumatran elephants remaining in the wild, according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, a 50 percent drop in numbers since 1985.

International conservation group WWF changed the Sumatran elephant’s status from “endangered” to “critically endangered” in January, largely due to severe habitat loss driven by palm oil and other plantations.

NEW YORK - Eastman Kodak Co said on Monday it has reached a $793 million financing deal with bondholders that could take the one-time photography giant out of bankruptcy.

The deal, which still needs bankruptcy court approval, will come in the form of new loans from Centerbridge Partners, GSO Capital Partners, UBS and JPMorgan Chase & Co, Kodak said in a statement.

The financing is contingent on the company receiving at least $500 million for a patent portfolio it has been trying to sell for more than a year, Kodak said.

The package should allow Kodak to emerge from bankruptcy in the first half of 2013, Antonio Perez, Kodak’s chief executive, said in the statement.

“The significance of this agreement for Kodak is that it establishes a clear path for our emergence as a stronger, more focused company,” Perez said.

Kodak will likely be a different company exiting bankruptcy than it was going in. In addition to selling its patent portfolio, Kodak must sell all or part of its document imaging and personalized imaging businesses in order to convert the loan into postbankruptcy financing.

That would mean a restructured

Kodak would largely be out of the consumer business, focused instead on its commercial imaging businesses.

Kodak filed for Chapter 11 protection in January in hopes of selling its intellectual property portfolio, but bids have been lower than hoped. It remains in talks for a patent sale with potential buyers, including Apple Inc and Google Inc. Kodak said in Monday’s statement it is “confident” the patents will fetch the $500 million required under terms of the loan.

The financing package is comprised of $467 million in new loans and $317 million in a dollar-for-dollar exchange for amounts outstanding under Kodak’s current notes.

The financing group beat out a separate contingent of second-lien bondholders that had offered financing, a person close to the matter told Reuters earlier.

Some second-lien holders on Monday filed court papers objecting to Kodak’s request to keep exclusive control of its bankruptcy process through February 28, a move that would allow it to seek court approval of the financing deal without other creditors being able to propose alternative plans.

Kodak said it hopes to gain court approval of the plan at a hearing sometime in December, but no date has been set.

Based on data by Central Statistic Agency (BPS) Bali’s rice production decreased by 11.578 tonnes of dried milled grain (down 1.35 percent) in 2012, where previously production also has experienced a decrease of 10.845 tonnes dried milled graintons (down 1.25 percent). The condition of decreased production in 2012 happens to quarter I (January-April) experienced a decrease of 9.90 percent (down 31.474 tons of dried milled grain) when compared to the same period of 2011.

Development of the integrated fish market was started on April 27, 2012 with the budget worth IDR 1 billion more.

The Head of the Fishery and Maritime Agency of Tabanan, Made Subagia, expected the traders in the fish market to help perform the maintenance. “Building of this market is an asset of central government. Thus, the traders are required to maintain it well so that it will create a clean and hygiene fish market,” he explained.

Regent Eka Wiryastuti asserted that the pro-people program continued to be rolled out by Tabanan Government. Other than the plantation and agricultural program, the results of fishery were also given priority. With such integrated fish market, the predicate of Tabanan as the food granary of Bali was very appropriate. According to the regent, the potential of natural resources owned such as rice fields, mountains, lakes and the sea were so incredible.

“Tabanan plays an important role in the food supply of Bali. On that account, I hope the participation and understanding of all the parties to ensure the community welfare so that Tabanan can still support the farming in Bali,” she hoped.

Thompson starts as NY Times CEO amid BBC scandal Associated Press

NEW YORK — New York Times Co. CEO Mark Thompson started his job Monday amid a widening scandal at his former employer, the BBC. When the Times hired him in August, Thompson was hailed as someone who could help the company at a time when print publications are suffering from the loss of readers and advertisers.

Thompson, 55, left the British Broadcasting Corp. in September after more than three decades with the public broadcaster. He joined the company as a production trainee in 1979 and spent his last eight years there as director general.

Thompson has said he only became aware of the investigative report after speaking with a BBC journalist at a cocktail party long after it had been canceled. When

he inquired later about its cancellation, he said executives told him it had been terminated for journalistic reasons.

Savile, who died in October 2011, was known for his eccentricity, garish tracksuits and Cuban cigars. Early last month, BBC rival ITV aired a documentary that detailed sexual abuse allegations against Savile. Since then, scores of women have come forward, alleging that they were abused by Savile when they were underage girls, sometimes in BBC dressing rooms.

In the latest twist, Thompson’s successor as the BBC’s top executive, George Entwistle, resigned on Saturday after a Nov. 2 “Newsnight” report wrongly implied that a former British politician sexually abused a child.

After the Savile scandal broke, Times Chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. sent the company’s staff a letter that said he was satisfied Thompson had no role in the decision to scrap the investigative segment on Savile.

The Times Co. did not make Thompson available for interviews on Monday. A spokesman said he spent his first day on the job meeting with employees and learning the company.

For cholesterol tests, fasting may not be required Reuters

NEW YORK - Most people getting their cholesterol checked may not need to fast beforehand, a new Canadian study suggests.

Researchers found the blood tests showed similar average total cholesterol and “good” HDL cholesterol readings, in particular, regardless of whether patients had eaten recently or avoided food for more than eight hours, as is typically recommended.

Eliminating the fasting requirement before cholesterol tests would be more convenient for patients and for labs, which often get slammed

with tests in the morning when most fasting patients come in, researchers said.

“There are logistic challenges when you’re going to get a fasting sample on everybody,” said Dr. J. Michael Gaziano, who wrote a commentary accompanying the new study.

“It makes long lines and it makes long waiting times, and if that in any way discourages patients from

having these tests done, then that’s another downside,” Gaziano, a preventive cardiologist at VA Boston Healthcare System and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, told Reuters Health.

Requiring a fasting cholesterol test may also mean patients have to return for lab work after their initial appointment - and some may not come back, Gaziano pointed out.

The president of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, added: “The fight against doping is too big for a single organisation to tackle on its own.”

NEGARA - Complaint of residents related to the attitude of the employees who refused to serve patients because of bringing along no JKBM paperwork in Negara Hospital had been followed up. Deputy Regent of Jembrana, Made Kembang Hartawan, immediately raided the biggest hospital in Negara on Monday morning (Nov 12).

The complaint was heard by Deputy Regent Kembang in the interactive dialog of the Regent and Deputy Regent of Jembrana at some villages. A resident from Asahduren, Pekutatan subdistrict, I Nyoman Puter, whose wife is Ni Wayan Badri, complained about the attitude of the hospital front office staff because his wife was rejected as bringing no JKBM paperwork.

Similar complaint was also revealed by resident in the interactive dialog at a number of other villages.

Kembang came to hospital when the employees were attending flag ceremony. At front office, the Deputy Regent reprimanded the female employees not to talk frugally. “Give an explanation to public, do not talk efficiently,” affirmed Kembang.

As spearhead of the hospital, they should be able to provide services

amicably and did not mess around while being on duty. He banned the employees to play with cellular phone while being on duty.

Deputy Regent Kembang then asked the officials in the hospital to develop the employees in order they could provide better services. According to him, one’s life was much more important than paperwork. In recent years, the hospital services such as in the Emergency Room (IRD) gave more priority to administrative matter than giving prompt handling to patients.

He cautioned it might not occur again.

“This incident is really experienced by people as expressed in the interactive dialog. They may not lie at the Regent and Deputy Regent, let alone in front of many people,” said Kembang.

Related to drug availability, Administrative Division Head of the Negara Hospital, Gede Santabudi, said the drug stock in Negara Hospital was still adequate. In response to the highlight of Deputy Regent Kembang Hartawan stating the low service performance and complaint of residents, Santabudi would improve the hospital services so that the public complaints would not happen again. “We will improve it maximally,” said Santabudi. DENPASAR - Bali Government has not given any reaction and response to the issuance of recommendation in order the Governor of Bali cancelled the cooperation between the Bali Government and PT Tirta Rahmat Bahari based on the permit on the utilization of mangrove forest in the area of Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura), Denpasar.

Spokesperson of Bali Government, Ketut Teneng, had not given clear answer whether the Governor of Bali would undertake the recommendation or the permit would continue. After waiting for nearly an hour in his office on Monday (Nov 12), Ketut Teneng refused to be interviewed and asked reporters to write down the questions.

“Simply write down what you’d like to ask. Probably, it (the answer) cannot be given today,” said Teneng to reporters.

Even, when asking to give a few comments on the issuance of the recommendation, Teneng claimed if he could not respond it and he hurried to attend a meeting.

Even, Teneng claimed not to know exactly whether the recommendation letter had been received by the Bali Government. “I will check it first whether it has been received,” he said briefly. As known, Chairman of the Bali House, AA Ngurah Oka Ratmadi or familiarly known as Cok Rat, had issued a recommendation to Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika, to revoke the permit on the utilization of mangrove forest by investor covering 102.22 hectares of land in the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park at Suwung Kauh, Denpasar.

The recommendation letter No. 593/3630/DPRD dated November 7, 2012, addressed to the

Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika, was also forwarded to the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Chairmen of the Bali House and the Regent/ Mayor throughout Bali.

The recommendation carried two points. Firstly, it asked the Governor of Bali to cancel the cooperation between the Bali Government and PT Tirtha Rahmat Bahari as set forth in the Governor Decree No. 1.051/03-L/HK/2012. Secondly, it requested the Governor of Bali and the House to always make coordination in making policy related to the utilization and management of mangrove forests in the territory of Bali Province. According to residents, the officers of relevant agency had taken the sample of the rabid dog brain and it was known to be positive to rabies.

However, such incident repeated again on Sunday (Nov 11) around the local Morning Market. A small dog ran amuck and attacked at least seven people who were shopping.

According to information, the dog was owned by local resi-

dent and escaped on Saturday night. “Previously, the dog also bit the owner. Then, it escaped and attacked residents in the vicinity of the Morning Market,” said a resident met on Monday (Nov 12).

Hamlet Chief of Baler Bale Agung, I Ketut Sumadiasa, said the six people becoming the victims of the dog bite had been treated with anti-rabies vaccine (VAR). Similarly, the residents who were bitten by dogs in the Morning Market had also been given such a vaccine. One of the residents bitten at the Morning Market was a child of six years old.

Meanwhile, the Head of Jembrana Health Agency, I Putu Suasta, confirmed the rabid dog bite cases at Baler Bale Agung. According to him, the incident should be taken seriously. His party appealed to surrounding residents to eliminate the stray dogs, while the pet dogs should be administered with vaccine. (kmb26)

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land.

Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

According to E! Online, a judge has denied the actress’ request to move to France with her 4-year-old daughter Nahla. It is a win for Nahla’s father, Berry’s ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.

Meanwhile, the small ripples of rejection taking place were only limited to that portion and then went away in keeping with the passage of time. “We are going to run out of energy at the bottom if continuing to do this way.
