ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Meet Rachel Martie HEP connected some important dots in January after meeting 21 year old Rachel Martie in St. Louis on January 3rd at Hyman Motor Ltd. at a reception for The Drive Home, Stop #8. Rachel’s dream is to explore working in a restoration shop following her 2 year AAS degree in restoration at Logan College in Southern Illinois, where she and her parents live. Within four days of meeting, Rachel participated in a dial-in call with women-of-industry including HEP Ambassadors Indy Racer Lyn St. James & preservationist Stacy Puckett, and Hagerty Insurance’s Tabetha Hammer. Encouragement, inspiration and magic happened on that call. By the following weekend, Rachel and her parents drove the 6-hours from Carbondale, IL to Chicago where they spent the weekend with HEP before Rachel went on two interviews for apprenticeships – one at a classic car shop and the other at a hot rod shop. The better-than-expected outcome was Rachel was offered opportunities at rates of pay that far exceeded her current job at a marshmallow factory close to home. Rachel is sorting out her options, but already knows the impact of HEP on her. Stay tuned for the end of this story…
