Olivier’s Experience share

Overall, the event was a fabulous reminder that EO is far more than just your local chapter. Remember when I went to RIE in Kolkata in January of this year? Well, this was on par—but much cheaper than RIE. And no, they didn’t have a $2.5 million budget to pull out all the stops. (RIE is one not to miss, by the way—if you want to experience EO and an event like no other, it’s like going to see the gorillas, a once-ina-lifetime moment.)

The chapter members pulled all the rabbits out of the hat (they may have desert rabbits over there). From sitting in race cars around the F1 track, to taking a private boat through the marina—which is forbidden by law—to dining in a museum where only two other dinners have ever taken place (the Kings’ and ours). My favorite was being hosted in small groups at the homes of the Bahrain members for a lavish dinner with local music and a cozy ambiance. Then, among themselves, the EO Bahrain members agreed whose house would host the after-party—with beer all over the floor, flower pots filled with cigarette butts, and locked rooms to

prevent finding someone crashed out there. Was it a party? Oh yeah—like those we remember from way back when, where the next day a mix of pride, guilt, happiness, and a massive hangover would converge in your 22-year-old brain and make you feel unstoppable. But in this case, we were all 35-plus and running businesses. I mean, total bliss and the feeling of belonging, as we were all truly living in the moment!

I went to the party in a cab with this guy named Ray from EO Singapore (we had never met before) and two other EOers. On the way there, there were maybe 5 minutes of chatting; the rest of the 15-minute ride was just laughs and jokes! We left the party heading to the hotel in a cab with Ray, again, and two other EOers. Ray did a deep dive with one of them about his future plans on.. (FORUM CONFIDENTIAL). Those were, without a doubt, the two best cab rides in my 43 years of life!

My trip was just amazing. Yes, I travelled alone—I was the only one from Kenya— but I wasn’t alone. I reconnected with friends from 20 years ago in Uganda, now also EOers, and met many more long-time friends I had never met. Yes, you read that right! I met people I had never met before but could share meals, laugh, and jokes like old friends—with one difference. Because of our shared values, we could be vulnerable at any time, seek guidance, and share experiences. And let’s face it, we could ask for insights from people who aren’t even in our sector - Proper stuff! Looking forward!

I’ve SIGNED up and PAID for IGNITE. Can you forgive yourself for missing out on a stellar event last October? But more importantly, can you do that again with Majilis & Ignite coming up? Can you forgive yourself for missing out again? I dare you! Reach out to me and ask me endless questions about why you should attend a MEPA regional event right here in Pakistan AND South Africa (And don’t get me started on Unleashed!!!).

In his inspiring keynote, Vern Harnish illustrated how adversity can catalyze extraordinary achievements. He emphasized the power of language in shaping company culture—how we refer to employees and clients truly matters. As leaders, we are the “Chief Energy Officers,” responsible for the positive energy that fuels our organizations. Vern highlighted that chaos presents the best opportunities for innovation and that investing in our own skills is crucial during turbulent times.

Citing John Kotter’s research, he noted that companies treating employees, clients, and shareholders equally are 12 times more successful. He stressed the importance of breakthrough, scalable innovations to stand out in challenging markets and shared Elon Musk’s five-step design process for optimization. Vern concluded by reminding us that as CEOs, focusing on people, execution, and strategy, while persisting with a clear, named strategy, is key to mapping the future and achieving exponential growth.

Mr. Adel Ali shared profound insights on purposeful goal achievement. He advocated for the value of emulating successful models but cautioned that failure often comes from not knowing how to adapt them—it’s not just about copying but mastering how to “paste.”

Emphasizing that attitude outweighs skills, he pointed out that while tools to learn new skills are available, the right mindset is crucial. Ali viewed failure as an investment in valuable lessons and encouraged us to focus on corrective actions rather than dwelling on setbacks. Noting a consumer shift towards spending on travel and experiences over goods, he suggested that offering more choices enhances success. His advice centered on keeping things simple for both teams and customers, maintaining clarity, focusing on profitability, and ensuring we have the right people on board. He also stressed the importance of mastering foundational levels before progressing to the next stage.

Luis Cortes

AI Implementation Workshop (EO Boston Member)

In a hands-on session, Luis Cortes demonstrated that “the future is now” when it comes to AI in business. He highlighted that AI is already part of our daily lives through technologies like facial recognition and predictive apps but underscored that AI is ineffective without human oversight. Cortes warned against blindly trusting AI tools like ChatGPT, which can produce inaccurate or “hallucinated” outputs, and noted that security breaches are often due to human error. He stressed the ethical responsibility of data handling, especially when deploying AI chatbots that reflect on our companies. Emphasizing that AI processes data without bias or opinion—garbage in, garbage out—he encouraged us to use our human intelligence to refine AI outputs. By providing thoughtful prompts and guidance, we can train AI systems to align more closely with our thinking, enhancing their utility in our businesses.

Teodor Ardeleanu

The Ki-Train Method

Teodor Ardeleanu introduced us to “The Ki-Train Method,” focusing on mastering personal energy through active relaxation. He posited that learning must lead to life changes to be meaningful. Through exercises like the YinYang Meditation, we practiced shifting awareness between internal sensations and the external environment to achieve heightened consciousness. Ardeleanu discussed how emotions influence decision-making and affect those around us, emphasizing the need to let go of negative feelings. He introduced the four dimensions of relaxation— muscles, articulation, meridians, and organs—and explained how physical states are linked to emotions, such as the liver’s association with anger. By adopting these relaxation techniques, we can improve energy efficiency, enhance focus, and achieve better outcomes both personally and professionally.

Yup, you read it right… and you now have been informed! Without our dedicated and loving MYEO Chair, we will blow this one out of the water! (Remember shooting at frogs in the pond with your BB gun?)

At first, the community was hosted in our EO KENYA chapter, but then it dawned on us that if members from outside our chapter wanted to join, Sachna would have to fight off the group joining requests from non-Kenya members like it was 1989 while doing a Koroga in the bush during the WRC… ahhh those days!

So here is the community link, and you canjoin whichever group you want without going via the ConnectEO website. However, when events are posted, you will need to register via ConnectEO so everyone can cover their bum bums from expensive lawyers and their Law & Suits…
