Where Purpose Meets Personality

From karting to Formula 4: Shane’s

rise through his father’s eyes (our own EO member Bhagesh Chandaria)

Please tell us a bit about your son’s journey to where he is now. Feel free to go deep and give us the full story.

Shane began karting at the age of six in rental karts at GP Karting, Langata. By the age of eight, he was already among the fastest drivers there, and as promised, we bought him a used racing kart. He started training at the track in Mai Mahiu and entered his first club championship in 2019.

He made his debut in the KMSF National Karting Championship (Cadet Class) in 2021.

Shane won every race that year, but as a Novice, his first six races were ineligible for championship points. Nonetheless, KMSF recognised his outstanding performance and named him Rookie of the Year at the annual Motorsports Gala.

Shane continued in the Cadet Class in 2022 and was crowned National Champion, which opened the door for him to represent Kenya at the FIA Karting Academy Trophy 2023 in the OK Junior category. The three race rounds were held in the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Italy. Shane reached the finals in all three rounds, and in the final race in Italy, he was awarded for achieving the most positions gained.

To compete effectively at a global level, we recognised the limitations of local training and competition. Shane therefore shifted to virtual schooling to allow him to race more frequently in the UK and Europe. In 2023, he competed in various UK club races in preparation for the 2024 British Karting Championship.

In 2024, Shane competed in the British Karting Championship, finishing 37th out of 73 drivers, and in the Ultimate Karting Championship, finishing 24th out of 116 entrants. This marked significant progress, especially considering that at the start of 2023 he was not yet consistently reaching race finals.

The 2025 season began with plans to continue in these championships; however, things took a new direction when Shane was selected for a Formula 4 shootout held in June in France. He was the youngest participant, and despite very limited prior experience in an F4 car, he performed exceptionally well—finishing 2nd on track, dropping to 3rd after a time penalty. This performance earned him an offer to race in the FIA Indian F4 Championship for 2025. As a family, we then made the decision to transition from karting to single-seater racing.

Shane has excelled in the Indian F4 Championship, breaking multiple records

From karting to Formula 4:

including becoming the youngest driver to win a race and securing 6 consecutive pole positions (surpassing the previous record of 4). He currently leads the championship standings with two races remaining.

His strong performance in India has now earned him a place in the highly coveted French F4 Championship for 2026.

When you think about your son on the grid this season, what has been the most emotional moment for you as a father, not as a race fan?

Looking back from 2023 to mid-2025, Shane’s journey through the fiercely competitive UK karting scene often felt like setback after setback, with only rare moments of celebration. But every difficult weekend pushed him to train harder, learn more, and come back stronger. Seeing where he stands today at the top of his game, showing extraordinary grit, maturity, and a relentless drive to improve is deeply emotional. It proves that letting him follow this unconventional path was truly the right decision.

High performance at 15 comes with pressure. What are the honest, behind the scenes conversations you have with him about fear, failure and expectations?

I’ve always believed that failure is the doorway to success. From the beginning, we told Shane that if he ever stopped enjoying racing, he only needed to tell us because it’s far better to try and fail than to hold back out of fear. Each time he has faced a setback (and there have been many), my message to him has been simple: reflect, learn, and move forward.

In that way, no moment is wasted; every difficulty becomes another step toward his ultimate goal. Shane is naturally fearless; his many frightening accidents have proven that; but it’s his deep intrinsic motivation and mental strength that truly set him apart. He bounces back from bad races with remarkable speed, driven by an unwavering desire to reach the top of the racing world.

How has watching his journey in Formula 4 changed you as a person or as an entrepreneur? What have you learned about yourself this season?

Grit, focus, and a relentless commitment to improving your craft eventually lead to extraordinary results. Learn from your mistakes and trust your intuition. As entrepreneurs and

business owners, we subconsciously live by these principles every day. The odds of success are low, whether in business or in racing, but the winning formula lies in finding the right balance between gut instinct and hard work.

EO talks a lot about values and alignment. What are the one or two core values you hope this racing journey really anchors in him for life, regardless of trophies or titles?

Racing has instilled in Shane a deep sense of perseverance and humility. Push through setbacks, stay grounded in success, learn constantly. These are lessons the track has taught him, and they will guide him far beyond racing, in whatever his future holds.

If you were speaking to other EO parents with kids chasing big dreams, what is the 5 percent insight you would share about supporting them without losing yourself, your relationship or your family balance?

Following an unconventional pathway forces us to redefine what balance truly means. When a decision impacts both time and finances, the first and most important step is to sit together as a family and ensure everyone shares the same inner conviction that this path is worth taking. In our case, our daughter, Siana, has been an incredible blessing. She sensed Shane’s deep passion from a very young age and gave Rupal and me the emotional permission to support him fully, even though it meant we might not be able to offer her the same opportunities right now. The greatest sacrifice in the early years is time; we have had to place our own priorities and comforts in the background to stand behind our child as

they follow their dreams.

Finally, this has obviously been a huge financial and emotional investment for you and your family. What has that really looked like behind the scenes, and what kind of support makes the biggest difference at this level?

We are incredibly fortunate to have a supportive extended family on both sides, without whom this journey would have been far more difficult. The emotional strength we’ve received from our parents, siblings, and, in my case, my late brother, my uncle, and my cousins who I work with, has made all the difference. We’ve learned to find joy in the time spent travelling and racing with Shane, rather than focusing on our own personal interests. We’re also grateful for the wonderful friends who have shown up to support him, and we truly believe that this collective positive energy keeps us going.
