If you only had one extra day....

February is such an under-appreciated month. It is stuck as the middle child between the New Year and Spring Break...with a smattering of chocolate feasting for a certain Valentine’s day that cuts right through the center of an otherwise mundane month on the calendar. THIS year though, February gets the spotlight in a different way, one that only comes around every 1,460 or so days: LEAP YEAR. February holds that elusive 364th day... tucked at the end of the month, that February 29th that we only see a handful of times in a lifetime. So that got me curious. What if we treated it like it truly was an EXTRA day? Do we really think that the one day we only get to see every thousand days should be just ORDINARY? Or should we thoughtfully take the time to expand creatively and live a little different for that day? I have decided that is exactly what I intend to do! I am still deciding what fun and feasting needs to happen to celebrate the added time, to hold it in gratitude and make the most of it with those I love.

However its that kind of gratitude we all need to hold for the time we have on this earth. It is always SO incredibly easy to get swept away. Day after day let the tides take you without any sense of control, balance or connection. However I prefer to insist that it doesn’t have to be that way, and in fact- if you discover that is has become that: stop everything and hit reset.

In this issue we talk about the many ways that reset can happen. In a moment, a 10 minute time out; in the eyes and arms of your beloved; or in the daily rituals that restore your body after all it has taken on. Regardless, time is ours to make the most of, so my challenge to you is to get intentional with yours, and practice opportunities to let go, recharge, and stay always in tune to what gives you energy & gratitude.

Intimacy Before we dive in into what it is, or how to get it on...let’s broach the topic of what its NOT. Intimacy is not checking a box, meeting a demand or keeping up with the Jones’s.

Intimacy refers to a close and personal relationship between individuals, where there is emotional, physical, and/or intellectual connection, safety & a united sense of purpose. It involves a sense of trust, vulnerability, and mutual understanding. Intimacy can exist in different forms, such as romantic relationships, friendships, and familial connections.

However in the masculine & feminine polarity & contrast, intimacy takes on its perhaps deepest potential. It becomes a life force all its own, and draws couples together over and over for a lifetime. Something that bodies and hormones alone could never do.

It is an important aspect of human relationships and can contribute to personal growth, happiness, and overall well-being. However, intimacy can also be challenging and requires effort, communication, and respect from both parties involved.

Intimacy, and the sexual act, are intricately interwoven, and yet uniquely separate.

Sometimes we mistakenly interlink them, and yet, they are distinct from the other.

Ultimate satisfaction stems from intimacy flourishing in the bedroom, and in the thousands of little moments that make up our days.

Practices that grow intimacy: Create a quiet space and committed time for true connection. Share openly and honestly, check in on one another’s needs, your relationship’s directions, and share from a place of open desire and need, free of blame, rejection or judgement. Share this space from the space of your deep desire to LISTEN, to receive your beloved and foster a greater understanding as a team.

Eye contact- this one can get spicy. Eye contact is a tantric practice, one that invites our deepest vulnerability, and unlocks openness together. Holding and maintaining eye contact while holding one another, focusing on connection through your breath, co-regulating together and only after in sync allowing touch to beging to naturally flow between you is a deeply intimate exchange that can spice up your love life in all directions. Its incredible how many

couples can spend years together and the concept of eye contact can actually be an uncomfortable thought, and an awkward first practice.

However, dim the lights, set the mood for connection, and savor this practice in a non-sexual way. Just a chance to re-attune to one another and let touch be the guiding force second to meeting each other’s gaze, in a new level of compassionate exploration & the opening of hearts to restore connection.

Co-Regulation- this is the art of BEING together in safety. Its the non-sexual connection of touch, listening, breathing and responsive nearness.

Try something NEW! Trust and curiosity grow beautifully and effortlessly when you both dive into something you have never done before. Whether it be a cooking class or an outdoor adventure, art project or guided experience, its such a great way to bring down walls, even the playing field and enjoy lightheartedness, humor and play. All of this can lead to an intoxicating mix of self discovery and enjoyment! Its such a fun way to grow as a couple!

Taking time together as a couple to just BE, outside of distractions and able to cuddle, breathe and relax can cultivate beautiful harmony- no words necessary!

Our nervous systems find comfort in the safety of simply being close, breathing in sync and the comfort of touch. The trust bonds of oxytocin actually flow MORE strongly for men in this than they do during sex itself! (Women produce more oxytocin during sex....who would have thought?!) Regardless, taking time to unwind and curl up together is a restorative and connective form of intimacy!

Raspberry Heart GUMMIES INGREDIENTS • 1 cup raspberries • ⅓ cup water • 4 drops of lemon essential oil • 2 tablespoons honey (or agave) • 4 teaspoons unflavored gelatin

INSTRUCTIONS • Puree the fruit in a food processor until smooth.

• Combine all ingredients except gelatin in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir with a whisk.

• When it comes to a simmer gradually + slowly whisk the gelatin into the mixture, stirring constantly.

• Continue heating over medium-low heat until it comes to a simmer and all ingredients are well combined and gelatin is completely melted. (The mixture will change from a grainy, jelly-like consistency to a more glassy, smooth consistency when gelatin is all melted.)

• For smooth gummies - pass through a sieve • Place gummy bear/heart mold on a cookie sheet (which makes it easier to move without spilling once filled).

Pour mixture into silicone mold and place in the fridge for a minimum of 6 hours.

• Pop gummies out of mold and store in an airtight container in the fridge.

• They will keep in the refrigerator for a few weeks.

WHY THIS

Matters Microplastics are small plastic particles that can be harmful to the body. Let’s face it. The time for self care

doesn’t actually EXIST. As a solo momma to five kids, I can attest to that fact. Time to pause is a myth.

There is no “extra” time between work and errands, shopping & meal prepping, chauffeuring kids here and there and everywhere. Nope.

No time at all. UNTIL YOU CLAIM IT. Truth of the matter is, I have been great at learning to program play and mini escapes in life with mountains and lakes so close to home, but even those are a couple times a month at best. DAILY there is just go go go until my head hits the pillow.

Until last fall. At doTERRA’s international convention in Salt Lake City, in the product showcase area, a secret little hideaway with low lights, an abundance of greenery and soft places to land, beckoned me to explore it. I was handed a pair of noise cancelling headphones and given a few drops of a precious new oil blend: Shinrin Yoku. I found a quiet place I could lay down, put on my headphones, and felt the world melt away. I drifted along the soothing tones of a meditation on gratitude accompanied by a

silky sound bath in tones that my body immediately responded to. I felt muscles and tension from my the crown of my head, to my jaw, my shoulders, through my hips and out from my toes, just drift away. It was then that I knew I was experiencing something that I needed MORE of in life. Consistent breaks to turn the world OFF, and turn inward to my heart, soul and body. The word that pulsed through me as I thought over that beautiful experience resonated in the word: RESTORE. This was an opportunity for me to build restoration into my routine, and slow myself down a bit more often.

By focusing on the present moment and slowing down racing thoughts, meditation can help you feel more grounded and centered. I actually didn’t leave the product
