A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a powerful tool for managing healthcare costs and saving for the future. This program is administered through Wealthcare.
HSAs are used together with high-deductible health plans (HDHP) to give you an option to set aside after-tax cash contributions to use anytime you want to pay for eligible health care expenses - your annual physical, an eye exam, a root canal - these are all eligible. Or you can pay for these expenses out of your own pocket and save your HSA funds for future expenses. Your HSA is yours to use now or later – even after you leave the Airport Authority
The IRS (Publication 502) defines qualified health care expenses. You can find a list of these qualified health care expenses at: IRS website
You can contribute as much or as little as you want up to the IRS maximum each year. The Health Savings Account provides a triple- tax advantage! You contribute funds tax-free, funds grow tax free, and you can withdraw funds tax-free.
Coverage: $4,400
Are you age 55 or over? You can contribute an additional $1,000
Up to the age of 65, you fund your HSA by making personal payment arrangements directly to your HSA. If you choose, Anthem will manage your ongoing HSA account through Anthem Spending Account. You will still get the advantage of before-tax savings, but you will only realize that benefit when you file your taxes for the year.
You must be enrolled in the Anthem HDHP plan and not covered by any other medical plan
You must not be enrolled in Medicare or TRICARE
Are you a veteran? If so, you must not have received veteran benefits within the last three months, except for preventive care
Have you participated in an FSA? You must exhaust any funds remaining in your FSA before the end of the year in which you retire
At age 65+, you’re eligible for Medicare. If you’re enrolled in any part of Medicare, you can no longer contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA). However, you can continue to use the funds in your HSA towards Medicare payments and other qualified out-of-pocket health care expenses.
