Message from our President

I want to thank everyone who helped make this another successful year. Our State Cup competitions once again showcased the passion, sportsmanship, and commitment that make our soccer community so special. Congratulations to our champions and participants, and best of luck to the teams representing us at the Regional and National Championships.

As we enjoy the excitement of the FIFA World Cup this summer, we also look ahead to a new season. Together, we will continue strengthening the youth soccer experience and creating new opportunities for our players and clubs.

Celebrating the Red, White and Blues

This July, celebration is everywhere.

As America celebrates its 250th birthday, soccer is taking center stage across the country and right here in our region. The FIFA World Cup has brought new energy, excitement, and pride to the game, while the U.S. Men’s National Team continues to inspire the next generation of players.

For Eastern New York Youth Soccer, this moment is especially meaningful. It reminds us that the pathway to the highest levels of the game often begins on local fields, with dedicated coaches, supportive families, committed clubs, and players willing to work toward something bigger. This month, we celebrate our country, our soccer community, and the dreams that continue to grow throughout Eastern New York.

YOUTHPLAYERAGE GROUPS

Starting with the 2026–27 season/registration year, US Youth Soccer will move to an August 1–July 31 age-group formation cycle to better align players with their schoolgrade peers and support a more inclusive experience. This cycle will be used for all USYS league and Cup competitions in 2026–27 (including National Championships, Presidents Cup, and National League). It is that time of year again.

The cones come out, the clipboards appear, parents suddenly become talent scouts and children begin carrying around levels of stress that would challenge many adults

Tryout season has arrived

Over the years, I have spent countless hours trying to reduce the anxiety surrounding tryouts. Sometimes I succeed. Often, despite everyone’s best intentions, the process still creates far too much stress, disappointment and heartache.

The reality is that we have created a system that frequently asks children to place far too much importance on a single evening or a couple of training sessions.

There is nothing more important than the safety of our children. We greatly appreciate administrators, coaches, referees, and volunteers’ roles in offering youth athletes from all backgrounds the opportunity to play soccer. An integral part of these roles is taking steps to ensure the safety of the participants. Collectively, we are responsible for providing a playing environment that is healthy, non-threatening, and free from emotional, physical, or sexual abuse.

The only way to ensure compliance is for all members to follow the same Risk Management requirements for the safety and well-being of all participants.
