The excitement surrounding this summer’s FIFA World Cup has brought incredible energy and momentum to soccer throughout our communities. That enthusiasm was also on full display at Citi Field, where a record-setting crowd celebrated women’s professional soccer and demonstrated how strongly the game continues to grow. Each year at this time, we have an opportunity to reflect, renew our commitment and prepare for the season ahead. AUGUST IS FOR Building the Future of the Game This August, soccer across Eastern New York is moving forward. Through Soccer Forward workshops and programs held across the state, coaches, educators and community leaders are finding new ways to expand access, create stronger environments and help more young people experience the game. We also celebrate graduating seniors who have earned scholarships and are preparing to continue their education and soccer journeys in college. Their achievements are a reminder that development reaches far beyond the field, helping players build confidence, character and opportunities for the future. As clubs, teams and families prepare for a new season, there is excitement in the chance to begin again, take on new challenges and pursue new goals. From local fields to the record-setting Gotham FC match at Citi Field, the continued growth of the game shows what is possible when a soccer community moves forward together.

SOCCER EVERYWHERE, FOR EVERYONE

On July 8, ENYYSA partnered with U.S. Soccer’s Soccer Forward initiative for the Soccer at Schools Workshop at the Central Park FIFA Arena. Educators, coaches and soccer leaders from across New York and New Jersey came together to explore ways to bring soccer to more students. Through interactive, play-based activities and discussion, participants shared ideas for creating meaningful soccer experiences in schools. The workshop reflected ENYYSA and U.S. Soccer’s continued commitment to growing the game and reaching more young players.

Helping More Girls Stay in the Game On July 16, ENYYSA partnered with U.S. Soccer’s Soccer Forward initiative for a Women & Girls in Soccer Workshop focused on recruiting, retaining and supporting girls in the game. Participants explored the challenges girls face in staying involved in sports and shared strategies for creating positive, inclusive environments where young athletes can thrive. Through this partnership, ENYYSA and U.S. Soccer continue to support the growth of girls' soccer and coach education across the region.

A record-breaking, sold-out crowd of 42,175 fans filled Citi Field on July 15 for the Queens Classic, making it the largestattended women’s sporting event in New York City history. Gotham FC earned a 1-0 victory over the Washington Spirit in front of the historic crowd, delivering a memorable night for women’s professional soccer. The overwhelming turnout highlighted the growing support for the women’s game and the strong demand for major women’s sporting events in New York City.

Growing the game together On July 10, girls from across the New York soccer community took over the Central Park FIFA Arena for the ENYYSA x Gotham FC Girls-Only 5v5 Pick-Up Tournament. With no standings, no pressure and no cost to participate, the event was all about playing, connecting and enjoying the game.

ENYYSA SAFE SOCCER There is nothing more important than the safety of our children. We greatly appreciate administrators, coaches, referees, and volunteers’ roles in offering youth athletes from all backgrounds the opportunity to play soccer. An integral part of these roles is taking steps to ensure the safety of the participants. Collectively, we are responsible for providing a playing environment that is healthy, non-threatening, and free from emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. The only way to ensure compliance is for all members to follow the same Risk Management requirements for the safety and well-being of all participants.

COACHING INSIGHTS HELPING YOUR PLAYERS GET ON THE SAME PAGE BY IMPRINTING A STYLE OF PLAY There is an enormous difference between watching two teams with a clearly defined style of play and a shared vision of the game, and watching a match where 22 players all seem to be playing from different scripts.

The contrast is as stark as driving along an open coastal road watching a beautiful sunset versus sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Interstate 95 staring at industrial smokestacks. Or, in soccer terms, it is the difference between watching a tennis match where the ball is simply returned back and forth and watching Spain at their best, combining, creating, and controlling the game through intelligent possession.

Soccer Forward Helping Keep Girls in the Game July 29, 2026 - During the World Cup, Soccer Forward hosted a workshop at the Central Park FIFA Arena on July 16 to spotlight one of the most pressing issues in youth sports: keeping girls in the game and equipping the coaches who can make it happen.

Crystal Dunn to Be Honored For Her Lengthy International Playing Career July 30, 2026 - Crystal Dunn will be recognized for her extraordinary career with the US Women’s National Team during a pregame ceremony before the United States faces Spain on October 10 at Audi Field in Washington, DC. The game will feature the two best women’s national teams in the world as Spain is #1 with the USA right behind at #2.

Tim Bradbury Selected to Coach the 2011 Boys ODP National Team July 26, 2026 - Congratulations to our very own Tim Bradbury, who has been selected to coach the 2011 Boys ODP (Olympic Development Program) National Team. Tim will be scouting Regionals next winter, then training the team for the IberCup in Portugal in spring 2027.
