MONIKA SCHOOL OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE

MONIKA 16.07.2003

I’m Monika, an architecture student at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. I didn’t enter architecture through a single revelation; I grew into it through questions and sudden flashes of ideas that change everything at once. This journey has shown me a side of myself I hadn’t expected—curious, restless, and drawn to thinking beyond the obvious. I design through movement: clean circulation, purposeful curves, and spaces that guide without noise. Architecture, for me, is where structure meets sensation. I want my work to leave a clear memory and create a moment of stillness within the user. Ultimately, my aim is to build a bridge between the tangible and the intangible—between what we inhabit and what we feel. ............................................................................................. A residential school rooted in community, climate, and care _______________________________________________________________________________ 2024 | Eklavya Model Residential School | Architectural Design Studio Site: Nandod, Gujarat The Eklavya Model Residential School at Nandod is envisioned as an educational campus where learning extends beyond classrooms into shared open spaces, courtyards, and everyday movement. Designed for Scheduled Tribe students, the project responds to the region’s tribal culture, climate, and landscape by creating a built environment that encourages interaction, self-reliance, and holistic development. Circular planning, shaded corridors, and open-toAAcademic, residential, and activity zones are carefully organized to balance community life with privacy, allowing the campus to function as both a place of education and a nurturing home. v

EKLAVYA MODEL RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL PROJECT AIM: Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) provide free CBSE education and residential facilities to Scheduled Tribe students in remote areas, focusing on academic excellence, vocational training, and holistic development. They aim to empower tribal youth and promote self-reliance through quality education.

Khajuraho International Airport

A large-span terminal exploring structure as architecture _______________________________________________________________________________ 2025 | Large Span Structure | Academic Design Project Site : Academic Campus, India The Large Span Structure project investigates how structural systems can become the primary generator of architectural form and spatial experience. Conceived as a column-free terminal building, the design focuses on accommodating large public movement within uninterrupted, flexible interiors suited to transit and congregation. The project derives its architectural language from the structural logic of space frames and branched supports, allowing the building to span extensively while maintaining clarity and efficiency. Inspired by the geometric order and tectonic expression of historic Indian architecture, the structure integrates cultural references with contemporary engineering. Environmental responsiveness through daylighting, ventilation, and energy-conscious systems reinforces the idea of structure not merely as support, but as the defining architectural narrative

Rhythm & Repetition Repeating sculptural bands abstracted into layered architectural elements.

Hierarchy Spatial order derived from the vertical progression of Khajuraho temples.

V

V

Sculptural Banding Horizontal figure bands translated into façade and sectional articulation.

2D Composition Temple principles of hierarchy, rhythm, and repetition abstracted into planar bands and layered geometry.

Curvilinear Flow Fluid temple drapery is abstracted into a continuous architectural language, guiding controlled roof curvature and primary movement lines.

3D Composition The 2D logic translated into spatial massing through controlled curvature and sculptural continuity.

3D Developed Form Curvilinear roof and wings evolve from rhythmic bands, resolving into a unified terminal form anchored by a central dome. Vision Graphic The vision synthesizes Khajuraho’s architectural principles of hierarchy, rhythmic repetition, and sculptural banding into a contemporary airport form. Cultural references are abstracted rather than replicated, allowing the terminal to emerge as a fluid, infrastructural landscape. Curvilinear geometries, layered massing, and a strong central axis establish clarity, orientation, and balance, translating historic spatial order into a modern, performative aviation architecture.

A mixed-use urban hub, redefining vertical public life _______________________________________________________________________________ 2025 | Mixed-Use High-Rise Development | Academic Design Project Site : ITO, New Delhi The Mixed-Use High-Rise at ITO is envisioned as an integrated urban node that brings together public, institutional, commercial, and work environments within a compact vertical framework. Conceived as a response to the dense and dynamic context of central Delhi, the project balances intensity with openness through a dual-tower configuration anchored by a central atrium. The design promotes visual and physical connectivity across programs, allowing movement, interaction, and pause to coexist. A sunken basement structure accommodates services and parking below ground, freeing the surface for landscape-driven public spaces. Through climate-responsive façades, shaded terraces, and an activated ground plane, the project aims to function not just as a building, but as an extension of the city’s public realm.

Site Plan Mixed Use Development

The project involves designing a mixed-use mid- to high-rise building on the AITUC Bhavan site near Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhayay Marg, New Delhi. Located within a dense urban context, the development responds to its surroundings through vertical and horizontal zoning, efficient circulation, and integrated service cores. The design emphasizes high service complexity, energy efficiency, and compliance with NBC, ECBC 2017, and GRIHA guidelines, while addressing social, environmental, and urban impacts at both local and regional scales. A social–spiritual hub reimagining collective life beyond religion _______________________________________________________________________________ 2024 | Social Hub | Architectural Design Project Site : Rajghat, Banaras, Uttar Pradesh Situated near Rajghat in Banaras, this project reimagines spirituality beyond the confines of religion offering a tranquil yet dynamic space for inner reflection, cultural expression, and community engagement. Inspired by the mandala a symbol of cosmic unity and the self the design radiates from a central core, fostering balance, rhythm, and inner harmony. It serves as a quiet yet powerful response to the city’s growing need for community-oriented, spiritual spaces that are inclusive and accessible. Here, people from all walks of life gather not just to witness culture, but to become part of it. The spatial experience gently draws the individual inward, offering a sense of stillness, shared belonging, and emotional grounding. In a city where spirituality is often tied to religion, this project becomes a new sacred one defined by connection, culture, and conscious living.

Explorations across mediums, methods, and making _______________________________________________________________________________ 2022–25 | Form, Process, Expression This section presents explorations beyond conventional architectural output, including digital and physical model making, illustrations, posters, photography, and parametric façade studies. Work developed using Rhinoceros with Grasshopper and Kangaroo reflects an interest in computational design and form-finding, while renders focus on atmosphere and visual communication. Together, these projects showcase experimentation across tools, scales, and modes of representation.
