About Friendship HOuse The Friendship House Association of American Indians is a holistic, nationally renowned substance abuse treatment center based in San Francisco. Established in 1963, the program’s peer-to-peer support model follows American Indian traditional healing concepts while applying evidence-based treatment practices that help individuals achieve and sustain recovery. With an operating budget of over $4 million and a 28-person staff, the organization operates an 80-bed residential facility for adults and a 9-bed facility for women and children, as well as a prevention program for youth. Through the integration of culture and community into healing practices, Friendship House helps clients find purpose through reconnecting with their culture as a source of identity and mental, emotional and physical health. Friendship House is seeking an Executive Director to succeed its late founder Helen Devore Waukazoo, whose vision and legacy continue to live on through the team and community. The new leader will help carry out the launch of The Village, a 6floor building that provides social, cultural and spiritual services to over 9,000 American Indians living in San Francisco, furthering the innovation of Friendship House's substance abuse treatment and healing.

IDEAL CANDIDATE The incoming Executive Director will honor and build upon the organization's history and accomplishments by reinvigorating the community behind a shared vision of sanctity and health for indigenous people. An experienced and collaborative leader, the ideal candidate will bring a personal passion for healing indigenous scars, as well as experience managing government-funded substance abuse program contracts and programs. Driven by values and equipped with thoughtful, inclusive strategic planning process, the next ED will build trust with community promoting transparency and open communication in pursuit of the organization's fundraising and programmatic goals. The ED plays a principal role in both developing external relations and advancing operational management, and will therefore have demonstrated experience leading both outward- and inward-facing aspects of a large, dynamic behavioral health nonprofit. The ideal candidate will bring commitment, passion and innovation to the ED role, providing Friendship House with a sense of continuity while also everevolving to meet the needs of the community.
