Cancer Support Community South Bay s psychosocial support includes an extensive array of mental health services for our participants, , their caretakers, friends, spouses, and family members of someone with cancer Individual counseling and weekly support groups are all offered free of charge and provide a safe place for participants to talk about their thoughts and experiences Peer-to-peer support and cancerspecific networking groups also offer a space to receive comfort and practical information from those who have or are going through a similar diagnosis

Healthy Lifestyle activities are offered on a weekly basis year-round and include Therapeutic Restorative Yoga, Tai Chi, Cardio for Wellness, Reiki Energy Circle, Pain Management Class, Guided Meditation, and Return to Wellness activities CSC South Bay offers over 200 Healthy Lifestyle programs monthly In 2021, support programs continued virtually, helping 1,177 participants in over 16,336 online visits Just last year, 498 newly diagnosed cancer patients were welcomed into the support community, a 12 increase Throughout this pandemic, Cancer Support Community South Bay has remained a lifeline of connection for the most vulnerable, immunocompromised participants to safely receive the care and support they desperately need throughout the many stages of their disease

CSC South Bay's goal is to help cancer patients and survivors resume an active and healthy lifestyle through fitness, social activity, nutrition, and more Fatigue is one of the major side effects of cancer, and through light exercise, individuals can begin to increase their stamina, thus improving their life Mind-Body activities and Return to Wellness classes are tailored to the individual needs of all participants, no matter where they are physically in the recovery process These programs cultivate a community environment that allows patients to meet others going through cancer treatment and the healing process The entire program is based on wanting every cancer patient and survivor to get back to being more active and having the ability to enjoy all aspects of life programs and services unique to their community

In January 2022, the organization was renamed from Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach to Cancer Support Community South Bay to better represent the 77 cities it serves throughout Southern California's South Bay, Long Beach, and Orange County areas After 35 years on the Redondo Beach Pier, their office moved to a larger, more accessible space at Rolling Hills Plaza in Torrance, CA The new office location is centrally located for participants and will provides greater capacity to help more cancer patients and their families utilize the free support services offered

Cancer Support Community South Bay has approximately 27 staff members including 10 full-time, 11 part-time, and 6 graduate interns Cancer Support Community South Bay s clinical staff is comprised of licensed healthcare professionals, psychologists, social workers, and marriage and family therapists They are governed by a 13person Board of Directors and a 22person Advisory Board comprised of local medical professionals In addition, 200 participant volunteers help with everything from daily front desk reception to special events
