About Aviva Family & Children’s Services Aviva has served Los Angeles children, youth, and families since 1915. Through mental health care, intensive community-based services, foster care and adoption, supportive housing, and services for transition-age youth, Aviva creates safe, supportive spaces where people can heal, build resilience, and experience belonging. Its continuum of care helps families facing poverty, housing instability, trauma, discrimination, and other significant barriers achieve greater stability, well-being, and lasting connection. In 2025, Aviva expanded its reach and strengthened services for children, youth, and families across Los Angeles County, serving 2,508 clients and impacting an estimated 8,126 individuals. The organization supported strong outcomes in mental health and intensive community-based services, with 81% of discharged mental health clients and 82% of intensive-services clients showing improved overall functioning. Aviva also opened its Lifting Youth Up Drop-In Center for unhoused and housing-insecure young people, served more than 38,000 meals across its housing and youth programs, helped 44% of families at Wallis House secure permanent housing, and successfully advocated for $31.5 million in emergency state funding to protect foster care services across California.

Mental Health Services

Intensive Community Based Services

Through compassionate care, we help create resilient children and families. We strengthen families as they transition out of the social welfare system. With culturally sensitive, trauma-informed services, we help families transform their lives by providing healthier ways to cope and heal.

When families and children are in crisis, we encourage and empower them to heal. Through mental health services and strengthbased support, together we identify a path to preserve family unity.

Services are available to families on site, in the community or in the home (depending on family’s location). Mental health services are individualized to fit each family’s need and preference, with a variety of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Models.

Foster & Adoption We place children from birth through age 21 in safe, nurturing homes while supporting both foster and adoptive families throughout the process. The program prioritizes family stability and reunification whenever possible and provides weekly social work visits, training, support groups, resource coordination, and 24/7 assistance. When reunification is not possible, Aviva guides families and children through the adoption process from initial placement through finalization.

Lifting Up Youth Drop In Center

Interim Supportive Housing Program for Women and Children

Our Drop-In Center provides a safe, affirming, welcoming space for young people ages 16 to 25 experiencing homelessness or housing instability, with particular attention to LGBTQ+ youth and those transitioning out of foster care. The center meets immediate needs through food, showers, laundry, clothing, and hygiene supplies and offers mental health care, case management, educational support, healthcare referrals, personal development, and employment assistance.

Aviva’s Wallis House is a 36-bed supportive housing residence in Hollywood that helps women and their children move from homelessness toward stability and independence. Families receive safe housing, three daily meals, clothing, therapeutic and mental health services, parent education, jobreadiness training, and independent living support. In partnership with the City and County of Los Angeles and other community organizations, Wallis House provides families with the resources, skills, and care needed to build a more secure future. Position Overview The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a vital member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for developing and leading financial management strategies and tactics to enable the organization to carry out its mission successfully and ensure long-term sustainability. The CFO reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serves as a member of the Executive Team while also providing leadership and supervision to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Finance and the Director of Information Technology, overseeing a combined team of approximately eight. In addition to financial stewardship, the CFO is responsible for the strategic direction and operational management of the agency's information technology infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring experience in the mental health and/or nonprofit sector along with a collaborative, learning-oriented leadership style. They will be skilled at building effective systems and helping teams strengthen their understanding and application of budget and contract management. Experience working within complex Los Angelesbased organizations will enable them to thoughtfully assess organizational needs, establish priorities, and implement sustainable improvements.

Roles & Responsibilities Financial and Operational Management

Organizational Strategy Partner with the CEO and senior leaders to define organizational priorities and develop a comprehensive strategic plan to advance the mission, values, and overall objectives of Aviva Family and Children’s Services. Develop and implement financial strategies and tactics to support the organization’s mission and goals. Guide management, board, and staff on all financial matters. Serve as a key management representative for the Board of Directors’ Finance Committee and Audit Committee; lead the Risk Management Committee; and report and present at Committee meetings.

Lead the planning, implementation, and management of all fiscal activities of the agency, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, tax, audit, payroll, and cash management. Prepare and present financial reports to the CEO and Board of Directors, providing analysis and recommendations. Provide swift decision-making and well-advised leadership on resource allocation and expenditure. Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including contracts, tax filings, and audits. Identify issues, options, risks, and creative solutions. Coordinate the preparation of negotiation packages for governmental agencies. Assess risk and ensure appropriateness of agency insurance coverage, including liability, workers’ compensation, malpractice, property, crime, and medical. Manage relationships with external partners, including banks, investment managers, auditors and other financial service providers.

Budget and Forecasting Oversee the annual budget process, working with program managers and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets. Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the CEO and Board of Directors. Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support long-term planning and decision-making.

Roles & Responsibilities Team Leadership Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team; foster a collaborative culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Champion organizational excellence and coach program managers/directors to use financial data as a problem-solving tool through clear program tracking, measurement, and analysis.

Information Technology Oversight Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for all information technology functions, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, data systems, and end-user support. Directly supervise the Director of Information Technology; set departmental priorities, approve technology investments, and ensure alignment between IT initiatives and organizational goals. Ensure the agency maintains appropriate data security, privacy protections, and disaster recovery protocols in compliance with HIPAA, contractual requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations. Oversee the development and management of the IT budget; evaluate and approve technology expenditures, vendor contracts, and software licensing agreements. Champion the adoption of technology solutions that improve operational efficiency, enhance service delivery, and support data-driven decisionmaking across the organization. Manage relationships with managed service providers, technology vendors, and consultants; ensure service level agreements are met, and contracts are cost-effective.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance required; MBA or CPA preferred. Eight to ten years of progressively responsible financial management experience, preferably in a social services agency or non-profit organization with five to seven years of managerial experience required. Experience with DMH, DCFS, LAHSA and HSH contracts required. Experience translating strategic priorities into a comprehensive financial management strategy and tactics that support the organizational mission and objectives. Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate financial data in relation to compliance and performance metrics. Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high performing teams. Superior oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders. Experience overseeing information technology operations, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, and enterprise systems in nonprofit or social services environment. Working knowledge of data privacy and security requirements, including HIPAA, and the ability to ensure organizational compliance across financial and technology systems.

Compensation & Benefits Aviva offers a competitive executive compensation package commensurate with experience with a salary range of $205,000-$225,000 and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, retirement, and sick and vacation time. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will understand that finance is not a separate administrative function, but an essential partner to programs, operations, technology, and Aviva’s mission of supporting children, youth, and families throughout Los Angeles. This leader will bring the financial sophistication required to guide continued growth, new service lines, changing reimbursement models, and increasing operational demands. They will translate Aviva’s priorities into a sustainable financial strategy and help leadership understand both the organization’s current financial position and its future opportunities, risks, and choices. Aviva seeks a CFO who enters with humility, curiosity, and respect for institutional knowledge. They will take time to understand the organization’s mission, programs, people, funding structures, and existing systems before initiating major changes. They will listen carefully, communicate transparently, invite feedback, and build strong relationships across Finance, IT, programs, executive leadership, the Board, funders, auditors, and external partners. The ideal CFO will lead through trust rather than control. They will be professional yet personable, decisive but measured, and willing to roll up their sleeves when needed without becoming overly operational or micromanaging. They will develop and support a high-performing finance and IT team, strengthen accountability, build leadership capacity, improve morale, and reduce overreliance on individual staff members. The CFO must provide informed executive oversight of IT and establish a productive partnership with technical leadership. They should understand technology as a strategic organizational asset and help ensure that investments in infrastructure, cybersecurity, privacy, data systems, and emerging technologies support operational effectiveness and Aviva’s long-term goals. Above all, Aviva seeks a CFO who can bring rigor without rigidity, change without disruption, and financial discipline without separating finance from the people and mission it serves. We follow a comprehensive and structured approach that begins with a needs assessment to understand the organization's position and culture. We source candidates using various strategies, such as leveraging networks, industry-specific databases, and targeted research. Our evaluations are designed to assess qualifications, experience, cultural fit, and leadership potential. After two stages of interviews with Envision, we work with the organization's search committee to select the individuals they wish to meet and then curate that interview experience.
