MINDWARE SHAKES HAND WITH IDIS FOR ADVANCED PLUG-AND-PLAY VIDEO TECH
DUBAI POLICE COLLABORATES WITH AVAYA In line with the strategy of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to integrate people of determination in society and provide them with equal rights, the Dubai Police announced today its plan to provide emergency solutions that serve all segments of the society, especially people of determination. The announcement was made during GITEX Technology Week 2018, in accordance with Dubai’s strategy of transforming into a smart city. Brigadier Kamel Butti Al Suwaidi, Director of the General Department of Operations at Dubai Police, said: “Dubai Police works in line with the Government’s efforts to empower and integrate people
of determination and provide them with a better quality of life. We are developing a real-time engagement service for people of determination in collaboration with Avaya, which enables them to make video calls and communicate with the Command and Control Center using sign language. The service will be launched soon and will help us provide higher-quality emergency support to people of determination and respond to their calls in a swift manner.” Dubai Police has already helped people of determination with an SMS system that can be used to communicate with the emergency services (999). Nidal Abou Ltaif, President of Avaya International, said: “Avaya is proud to have developed with Dubai Police the first and best communication services in the
Arab world that enable people of determination to make video calls and use sign language in emergency scenarios.” Avaya developed a multi-partyvideo-enabled service that allows people of determination to make calls with sign language experts and the Dubai Police Command and Control Center (999). This service connects the citizen with the nearest police patrol, which in turn can use the service to communicate with the headquarters at the same time. The solution also helps overcome the limitations of radio frequency currently used by patrol cars by leveraging the high-speed GSM network. The most important feature the service provides is respecting privacy, as the solution fully records and encrypts all the communication and interactions.
An extensive distribution agreement was signed between IDIS and value-added IT distributor Mindware, which will make it easier for IT/network integrators across the Middle East and Africa to deliver advanced video surveillance projects. The deal means that from now onwards, Mindware can offer their channel partners a single supply route for high-level video surveillance installations and turnkey applications, covering both IT and security by IDIS - the largest manufacturer of security and surveillance technology in South Korea and a globally recognized leader in advanced surveillance innovation. “The distribution agreement with Mindware substantially extends IDIS’s reach across the region and opens an essential sales channel to specialist IT network integrators”, confirmed Harry Kwon, the General Manager of IDIS Middle East and North Africa. “For Network, IT and Communications integrators the availability of IDIS video technology is a one more welcome addition to our topclass vendor portfolio”, agrees Nicholas Argyrides, Chief of Sales & Marketing and Deputy GM at Mindware. “More endto-end solution offerings by Mindware means, naturally, more value to more end-clients across the region.”

ARROW ECS - VALUE IS BEING FUTURISTIC For Vimal Kocher, GM of Arrow ECS, the term value means being futuristic. The VAD is participating at GITEX 2019 with all its vendors and putting forward new value propositions in security and infrastructure distribution. “GITEX has always been an amazing platform for us to meet and greet our partners and customers in one place and this year we can see some steep increase in the number of exhibitors and vendors which signifies the positive inclination and appetite of the market towards technology and transformation,” says Vimal. Speaking about the evolution in customer behavior, Vimal says, “One of the key changes that I can see in customer behavior is that, today customers are not looking for brands, but for solutions. IT has transformed from being a cost center to profit center or cost optimization center and this is vital for a smooth and profitable business. We are developing our business in such a way that we are not a vendor-centric model but a customer-centric model. We have a wide portfolio of vendors or solutions and thus we are able to cater to the 360 degrees need of the customer and provide them cost-effective services. Talking about redefining the concept of value in value added distribution, Vimal says that Arrow not only provides solutions to the customers but also provides the necessary training, maintenance and support services needed for the solution. They have a very strong professional services team that are on-ground to cater to the needs and pain points of the customers and resolve them. As a VAD, Arrow also has competing vendors in the portfolio. When asked about they are handling the probable tiff, Vimal says that one feels the competition only if they have a vendor-centric model. “When we talk about the solution, we do have competitive solutions in the portfolio. But when we designed the solution we integrated only those products that fit into the challenge that was being addressed.”
MBUZZ: CHANGING THE NORM Fawwaz Al Shammari, CEO at MBUZZ says that the distributor is here to create a niche in the market. Being at the cusp of digital transformation, MBuzz is seeing a great appetite in the region for the niche solutions that they have to offer and this was very evident from the customer conversations that they had at GITEX. “We have been visiting GITEX for a long time, but this year

Development, Finesse says “This year our focus is mainly on the digital transformation and we have solutions such as chatbots, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain, analytics, etc.” Robotic Process Automation is simple words is to manual mundane tasks to automate and reduce the cost as well as to compete with great efficiency. Recently, at the Kapow RPA workshop held by Kofax for all their partners, the challenge was to create the best Robotic Process that would add value and efficiency to business. Finesse was declared the winners for creating the Robot using automation web techniques. “We have interesting use cases for multiple verticals such as Banking and Insurance operations as well as government sectors,” adds Eljo. Finesse strives to bring customized digital solutions to meet the demands as well as needs of their customers. “Digital Transformation, Blockchain and Managed service systems are the top three priorities of Finesse for the year 2019,” concludes Eljo

ARUBA: SOLUTIONS FOR SMART DIGITAL WORKPLACE Returning to GITEX after 20 years, Adrian Hurel, VP of Global Field Operations for Aruba says that the show has grown huge in volume of people not only from Gulf but also the rest of the world. DELL TECHNOLOGIES AND SAFE CITY GROUP SIGN MOU Safe City Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dell EMC. The MoU was signed by Eng. DUBAI CIVIL DEFENSE ENHANCES FIRE RESPONSE CAPABILITIES WITH AVAYA The General Directorate of Civil Defense in Dubai (DCD) has teamed up with Avaya and ConnectIt on a new digital transformation project to enhance fire response times. In particular, the project will allow DCD to upgrade its response and fire prevention capabilities to avoid allocating time and resources unnecessarily to false alarms. The project highlights the importance of collaboration between government and the private sector to provide value-added services to citizens, and is part of DCD’s ongoing

SAGE FOUNDATION DONATES £25,000 TO NON-PROFIT ORGANISATIONS AT GITEX365 ENVIRONMENTS Sage Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sage, awarded £25,000 (AED120,787) worth of grants for the Big Give Live, a social impact initiative that provides non-profits with access to human and financial capital at GITEX Technology Week 2018, in Dubai. The initiative is part of Sage’s efforts to invest in nonprofit organisations that help disadvantaged communities reach their true potential through
education, entrepreneurship and healthcare. The first of three participating non-profit organisations in the Big Give Live was The Citizens Foundation, a Pakistan-based network of independently-run schools with an enrolment of 220,000 students, 48 per cent of which are girls. CHINESE DELEGATION EXPLORES POTENTIAL FOR SMART CITIES COLLABORATIONTHE UAE AT GITEX 2018 The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s representative office in Shanghai, China, recently organised a trade mission to Dubai which was joined by businessmen representing several leading Chinese companies specialising in smart city solutions. During the delegation visit, the Chinese businessmen attended GITEX Technology Week 2018 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where they met with representatives from Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Expo 2020, Dubai South, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and Dubai Police.
