POSITIVE TECHNOLOGIES: FOUR OUT OF FIVE ATTACKS TARGETED IN NATURE

I

n Positive Technologies’ analysis of cyberthreats of Q2 2023, targeted attacks were revealed to have increased by 10% since the start of the year, standing at a formidable 78% currently. Experts recognized a wave of large-scale attacks exploiting vulnerabilities and leaking users’ personal data. Blockchain projects found themselves a target of successful cyberattacks, and ransomware activity reached unprecedented heights, particularly targeting IT companies.

A 17% year-on-year rise in incidents within Q2 2023 painted a picture of escalating vulnerabilities. Successful cyber assaults resulted in the leakage of confidential information (67%) and the disruption of core operations (44%).

Ransomware saw a 13% surge in the same quarter, with IT organizations accounting for 11% of its victims. According to the experts, a possible reason for this increase in targeted attacks could be that successful attacks allow cybercriminals to get confidential client data.

Positive Technologies analysts identified a new trend: cybercriminals are now opting

to abandon encryption methods and instead employ intimidating tactics, specifically by threatening their victims to publish the stolen data, foregoing the traditional ransom demands for data decryption.

Head of the Information Security Research Group at Positive Technologies, Irina Zinovkina comments, “We’ve been seeing attacks gradually abandon data encryption as their key means of pressuring victims.

Using ransomware requires attackers to exert significant effort to bypass malware defenses and deploy the malware.” She adds that the heightened risk lies in the potential for attackers to utilize the stolen data for subsequent attacks. Companies faced with an attack must swiftly identify potential points of compromise and vulnerabilities. It is crucial to ensure that the perpetrators have not left any backdoors open.

Positive Technologies uncovered a trend where cybercriminals exploit both old and newly discovered vulnerabilities, some of which resurface years later. To counter this, experts advise companies to establish a

rigorous vulnerability management system.

This involves cataloging all infrastructural assets, identifying vulnerabilities, prioritizing them by severity, and aligning with prevailing trends. Setting up software update protocols and monitoring progress are vital components.

A new type of stealer, discovered in Q2, scours home directories and local drives, sending files, screenshots, and clipboard contents to a command-andcontrol server.

oday, Logitech introduced a desk booking service that delivers a better hotdesking experience for employees and a greater ability to manage shared desks across multiple locations. The service runs on Logi Dock Flex, a fully-featured managed docking station built for shared desks in flexible work environments.

The move to a hybrid work model has given companies the opportunity to reassess and optimize their office space.
