SECURITY MATTERZ
“FUTURISTIC SECURITY SERVICES” MOHAMED ALKHOUDRY, CEO, SECURITY MATTERZ
Security Matterz is a specialist IT Security organization that has branch offices throughout the Middle East with its premier office in Saudi Arabia. Security Matterz aims to bring to the market the best in class products and services that caters to the ever-evolving threat landscape. According to Mohamad Alkhoudry, CEO of Security Matterz, “Security Matterz is the next generation & futuristic security service provider in the region.” According to him, the security gap in the region is widening in manpower and operation. Products are picking up that are targeting multiple risks and attack. “We are targeting the critical issues of operation and manpower which are the biggest risk and cause for the customers to be update on security and that is where the major part of their investment is going towards. Our goal is to reduce that and to make all the solutions tailored for the threats and attacks be more practical and customized for the organization.” Mohammed is seeing a great upward trend and adoption of niche security solutions in the government sector, He says, “Government is picking up and rising to BFSI standards. We have had very close associations with the banking sector and we can see them adopting to the banking standards and accepting newer technologies rather than traditional security and it is opening new doors for us.”

“ATTRACTING MILLENNIALS TO A DIGITAL WORKPLACE”
HANI NOFAL, GBM
02
GBM’s prime spotlight at the GISEC 2017 was the 6th Annual Security Survey that polled over 1400 individuals in the GCC from three generations; Gen X, Y, Z. The crux of the survey and the white paper that followed was to understand the GCC enterprises challenges in attracting the millennials to a digital workplace. Shedding more light on that, Hani Nofal, says “This year our major focus is on attracting and retaining the next generation in the digital workforce. This year our annual security survey focused on three different generations and compared them in terms of their digital behaviour, social media footprints and their expectations when it comes to their workplace and how the region is reacting to that. We looked at three aspects and one of them was the social media footprint and usage in three generations; Gen X (senior level executives from mid to late thirties and all the way up to late fifties), Gen Y (the millennials), and Gen Z (the digital natives). The key findings of the report say; Gen Y expects to be more mobile and more connected and has a much bigger footprint when it comes to social media. They expect to bring their own devices to their workplace which leads to the how the entire notion of BYOD is also driving security challenges in the enterprises. There also seems to be a disconnection between the generations X and Y when it comes to the organization’s readiness to predict and prevent cyber-attack. Gen X is more aware of their privacy as they preferred COPE program and they have a smaller social media footprint. The report that we are generating from this will help address the difference of behaviour around these aspects where companies should look at the best of both worlds while recruiting a new generation of workforce like BYOD, COPE and CYOD (Choose Your Own Device) as this would be the trend going forward. Workplace technology is a key area of any business today. A workforce survey stated that a vast majority of recruitment heads are find-ing it hard to attract and retain millennial talent in modern workforce. Millennials have grown up amidst a breathing technology environment and expect the same from their employer and their workplace. Therefore, it is very important for the senior generation to create a welcoming and secure digital workplace for the millennials to come in. Digital enterprise is an amalgamation of smart technologies, empowered and flexible work atmosphere and these millennials not only demands the freedom of choice in regulating their own work environments, but also possess the consciousness to fortify their perimeters of security to evade any unknown threats or malicious behaviour.

INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS
SPIRE SOLUTIONS
“BULLISH ON SECURITY” SANJEEV WALIA, CEO, SPIRE SOLUTIONS
As the security market gets more vibrant with each passing day, Spire Solutions claims that they are leaving no stones unturned in keeping the security curve up and running. Sanjeev Walia, CEO of Spire Solutions says, “The market will be more vibrant now because of the various grave attacks that happened recently. We can see more and more organizations realizing the need for a resilient security architecture. Even small organizations are realizing this need and this is a very interesting aspect for us. Security has a good future as long as they are bad actors. Security will evolve.” “The biggest feature or value that we look for in our partners is their ability to solve real problems. For example, Rapid 7 has a solution for vulnerability management that works on the complete lifecycle, including vulnerability testing so you have less false positives. Today, in the market there is a huge shortage of trade resources and we have seen a lot of organizations spend a lot of time in resolving false positives while real threat passes by.” “We are very bullish when it comes to our portfolio. We have three strong vendors in our portfolio. Rapid 7 is already established in protecting a lot of organization in the region; We have Smokescreen that brings in a very niche technology of deception techniques; and on the EDR side we have taken on board Endgame which has strengthened our portfolio further”.
“BUILDING TRUST WITHIN THE CYBER SPACE” ABDULRAHMAN ALSHETWEY, INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS’ CEO
Innovative Solutions has been operating in the Middle East since 2003. We have addressed the issue of cyber security to enable e-services within the financial sector. During that time, the Saudi government also embarked on a major e-government initiative to provide public services to citizens and expatriates through the Internet. With that, the need to build trust within the Cyber space was an important ingredient to the success of such noble initiatives within the financial and government sector. IS has played a major role in ensuring the underlining security of cyber space. Not to mention the growth we saw in telecommunication when the Government has opened up the telecommunications sector. On the other end, we saw a global proliferation in Cyber crime and state nation attacks. For almost the last 7 years, the region has been changing when it comes to Cyber Security. The region is a young region and we believe the reliance on e-channels will increase and hence protecting them will be a strategic goal. A lot of focus was on protecting the infrastructure which is definitely an important element to ensure adequate protection is maintained. However, we believe that the infrastructure is there to support the application be it e-services, e-government or e-banking. With that, we built our capabilities to assist our clients to secure their applications and their precious asset: Data. We believe understanding the domain we work in is a major success factor to our leadership position within the market. Not to mention that IT is revolving in a speed that is unprecedented. With that, we have to be abreast with the new technologies and different ways of delivering IT. For instance Cloud….etc is a major shift, we like it or not, and Mobile already surpassed Desktops and Laptops when it comes to how users consume IT. Such technologies change and all the associating paradigm shift have its own security challenges.

With more vendors coming together, we have more to offer and we believe that this helps us in catering to the evolving needs of the customers.” According to Garreth, the one factor that makes them stand a class apart is their local presence. “We see many vendors coming in for meetings with the customers and flying back. But we make sure that we are always available for our customers. We have a very strong local presence and our technical teams on ground in the region who are able to reach customers whenever they need them.” Credence has also signed new partnerships with Blueliv (Cyber Threat Intelligence & Analysis) and Rsam (GRC) at the show.
QNAP SYSTEMS
“A STEP FURTHER” Alvin Wu, Director-India, QNAP Systems says, ‘This is our third time at the GISEC/IOTX and we have seen a great value in this event. If we compare this with GITEX, the customers here are more dedicated and a majority of them come from enterprises segment. There may not be many people as compared to GITEX but the crowd is more of quality than quantity. So we have more time to discuss with our customers. Talking about QNAP’s presence and opera-tions in the Middle East market, Alvin ALVIN WU, says, “In the Middle East market, we don’t have any competitors. We provide DIRECTOR – INDIA storage, Network Attached Storage solutions which is much more secure and easy to manage and easy to control. This is the value-added benefit that we provide from our side of the customer. We are capable of working on multiple platforms and we can also run IoT solution plus the multiple features. To focus on the market right now, the time is really good. Everybody is investing and focus-ing a lot on their data. Data is the most valuable asset in the modern enterprise. It may or may not happen that they do not care about their device. Data is much important. Data is much bigger as it is the age of big data. So, you need more devices, more storage and more security to realize it.”

SKRIWARE
“A JOURNEY FROM 3D PRINTERS TO ROBOTICS PLATFORM” KAROL GORNOWICZ, CEO, SKRIWARE
Skriware is a manufacturing company of 3D printers. A printer is great in itself but what matters is an online platform. It started as a library for 3D models that one could just print with one click, send it to the printer but they developed and expanded that and now Skriware’s focus is on robotic platform. “With a set of blocks, we developed, design the robots online, put together electronic moving elements and then code the robots. For the beginning level, we have simple, logical blocks. For example, if the robot sees obstacles, it will turn around. This is something that children understand. On an intermediate level, you can edit this code yourself and in the advanced level, you can code it from the beginning by yourself” said Rafal Woyda, Product Manager, Skriware. As it is an educational platform, they have already implemented it in primary schools in Poland. They have different kinds of sound sensor, microphone, and speaker, where in one can program the robots to speak to it and to respond to the commands. “We will pay more visits to this region as there is a lot of opportunities for us” said Karol Gornowicz, CEO, Skriware.

Certgate, a German company debuted in GISEC whose focus is mobile security, securing the mobile communication. “If you want to call someone or send a short message to someone and you want to avoid wiretapping or interception, the information you are talking about should stay confidential, so there is where we are ensuring confidentiality regardless where you are calling from and where you are calling to” said Jan C. Wendenburg, CEO, Certgate. The security challenge that Middle East is facing is the technology to intercept, to wiretap other parties is only clicks away. This is in the mobile space one of the very serious challenge. Since many years, wiretapping is possible but today you can just order a wiretapping device, you can wiretap anyone around you. “Even if you are calling from Latin America to Dubai, it is secure and 100% encrypted solution which does not rely on US based companies which fall under the US Patriot Act” concluded Jan. ALI MOIDU, CEO, DUBAI TECHNOLOGIES
“SMART TRANSPORTATION SOLUTIONS FOR EVERY INDUSTRY” Dubai Technologies as the name says is a Dubai based company focusing on technology solutions. Their mission is same as Dubai government, bringing technology for the transportation industry. Dubai Technologies is the first company to provide the bus ticketing, display system and trip management solutions. As Dubai transformed with the taxi regulations, they implemented taxi management solutions. Since 2002, Dubai has UAE GPRS network. And they are the first company to develop a product for telematics within UAE and under the banner of Dubai SME. Since then, this organization has been transforming their technology to various industry solutions, be it the various segments of transportation related to logistics, school transportation, waste transportation and now their solutions are completely transformed into an IoT platform. So, various business process requirements are captured, be it a machine talking or mobility solutions or bring into some single platform, then integrate with corresponding ERP of the business, so that they will get an end to end business solution. “Today we are engaging more with start-up companies and providing them with technologies. One of them was instant car booking system with an automatic access control from a smartphone. Our latest offering is called stuck which is roadside assistance services. Governments focus on implementing regulatory policies and enforcement of regulations. But what needs to be controlled is how these regulations are followed by operators. So, we have centralized solution facilitating government that their policies are implemented well. Our focus is secure platform. We have adopted encryption and the user controls are validated and verified” said Ali Moidu, CEO, Dubai Technologies.

DigiRobotics is currently implementing heavy industrial solutions for companies. They are developing the drone which is the cargo drone for the transportation in different areas. For example, if you have Aramex, DHL items to be transported our drone can land directly on the ship. In GISEC, they represent the industry 4.0 to connect IoT, smart automation technologies into the factories. In Saudi Arabia, they have around 15000 factories which needs a technology to be on the next level and robots to take care of a lot of tasks. We have more than 50 different items. They try to convert the taxi to the autonomous one. “Our vision for 2020 is 25% of the taxis should be autonomous. For Al Maktoum airport we developed solutions like baggage handle system. You don’t need people to take the bag. A robot can take the bag and place it. In GISEC, we try to show to the manufacturers that there is a solution all in one. You don’t need software or hardware provider. We give solutions put all together” said Svitlana Voznyuk, Marketing Head.

They are a van diagnostic working with the customer taking them through the journey. Showcasing these areas of expertise and their ability to deliver at GISEC 2017. They partner with vendors and system integrators as they are a delivery partner, they’ve seen a gap in the market where there is a lack of expertise when it comes to specific kind of solutions. GRC3D works with system integrators such as Verizon to deliver a project for the federal government. “Verizon came in as the main contractor but they were looking for a local partner to do the delivery end. We understand the culture and we have a multinational professional team here and have been delivering in 10 countries in Middle East and Africa, so we understand the local market. How they go to market is the nature of what they do is cloud, infrastructure less, managed hunting, incorporated intelligence, any organization that really needs to think about doing security in a different way is a target customer. Whether they are a large enterprise, a medium or small enterprise. “Ironically the smaller the organization, the more value we can bring them immediately, because the skills we offer are very difficult. “UNDERSTANDING THE SECURITY MARKET PULSE” MAHER BISSANY, VP OPERATIONS, SWITCH TECHNOLOGY
“SMART ENCRYPTION HOLDING THE FORT” Switch Technology is a swiss based company which is showcasing their new solution called Shield this year at GISEC. Shield is a complimentary encryption solution. Their target is mainly the government. Military and large corporations. Hacking has become a trend now. Maher Bissany, VP Operations at Switch Technology comments, “Companies that take encryption and security seriously are aware that most commercial solutions can be broken in to. We’ve spent three years developing this multi-million-dollar unbreakable algorithm which has been mathematically proven to not be broken into. Behind a company’s existing security solutions, VPN, firewall, this algorithm is placed on top of the network layer, and anything that goes through your network is encrypted. In cases where there is a head office or main office and branches you set up 2 pieces of equipment based on the algorithm called One Time Pad and everything that goes in and out is encrypted. In worst case, Hackers who end up penetrating the network will not be able to see anything. What they do see will be encrypted. They cannot break into it.” Shield is 100% secure.
The dramatic growth in the security market has paved the way for Arrow distributions to bring in some niche technologies to the marketplace. According to Vimal Kochar, GM, Arrow Distribution, the recent cyber-attacks that happened has fuelled the need for security and more and more organizations are realizing the need for increased investments in security. “Digital transformation and the need for security has transformed completely. But, we do not have the right tools to support the digital transformation and IoT. Today, there is a need for a different security architecture that keeps silos at bay. People are moving to multi-layer security architecture and that is the way going forward. In line with catering to the ever-evolving needs of the customers and the partner net-work, Arrow distribution has come up with 3 initiatives. They have hired some resources, ie the resellers, that will provide services to the customer. “We have two types of resellers; one who have their own resources and provide end to end services. But there are many resellers who are good in customer relationship but do not have the resources to provide services. So, we pro-vide solutions to the resellers who are looking for resources to be eventually given to the end customer and this initiative has helped us in expanding the security portfolio.” “Secondly, we have made a lot of investment in the PoC equipment. We have our own lab where we can show the solutions to the customers and resellers and show our Proof of Concept. Thirdly, we are creating our resource pool to give the technical training to our customers and partners and this has helped us to gain the customer confidence. Barracuda is focusing on a complete security lifecycle and their key focus at the GISEC 2017 is to drive home this point to the customers. According to Hatem Naguib, SVP & GM, Security Business, “Security for us is a global market. Threats are not localized. All the works and effort we do are to address customers on a global level.” Talking about the predominant skill gap in the region and security awareness landscape, he says “The skill gaps continues and it puts a lot of responsibility on us as vendors to make the products simpler and this has been the vision of Barracuda since its inception. Lot of investments have been made in our network, application and email security. We are also making enhancements and increase investments around Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to make the customer life easy. The threat landscape is very dynamic and we have to leverage the security dynamically.” According to Barracuda, the good thing about them is their ability to tackle different areas of security, like backup of data, perimeter protection and next generation firewalls. All of them can be managed centrally by their tools which is very easy to manage and monitor. It reduces the need for having many engineers babysit the net-work and thereby helps the business run more efficiently.” Barracuda is also seeing a lot of growth in cloud security solutions. “The biggest question that a customer will have in moving to cloud is— where is my data? If they are comfortable with the location where the data is sitting, the migration will be smooth. Second, Have I got the right security? There are two types of security; security of cloud and security of workload. It will be your responsibility to secure the workload. It’s the shared security model. This is where companies like Barracuda come in as we provide that much needed security capabilities for the critical workloads on top.” 16

In the Middle East, we are very happy with Spire as a partner and do not wish to look beyond them.” The partnership with Spire leverages Endgame’s recently-announced platform enhancements that provide continuous prevention and detection of zero days, malware less attacks, and ransomware in time to stop information theft. Endgame’s endpoint security platform combines full stack prevention, detection, and threat hunting in a single dissolvable sensor to eliminate new and already-entrenched adversaries without prior threat intelligence. Core to the partnership are Spire’s seasoned security analysts whose unparalleled expertise and customer service make them the security provider of choice for enterprises across the Middle East. Spire’s purpose-built services offer clients the best possible solutions, consultation, support, and training designed to help security teams streamline operations and stop attackers faster than ever before.

“NEXT GENERATION ENDPOINT SECURITY” AMER AL SHARKAWI, SALES DIRECTOR – META, DRIVELOCK SE
DriveLock is showcasing the next generation of end point security protection this year at GISEC. “We are a German company providing protection for data on laptops, PCs, and servers. We have connected devices and we control and protect the data where ever it resides, whether it’s the hard desk, removable or cloud. We also provide reporting and forensic features to have the visibility for the customer to see what’s going on,” comments Amer AlSharkawi, Sales Director, META, DriveLock. Coming fresh from Europe, DriveLock has already established some partners in the Middle East signing up with some local ones recently. “GISEC is the perfect event for us to have brand awareness and make some noise for DriveLock. Our solutions are agent based solutions that can be installed in any machine or device where there resides data to protect the customer from external and internal threats coming to their network. We sit with the customer to design the level of security based on their business needs.

DR. MANU NAIR, GENERAL MANAGER, OREGON SYSTEMS
“FOCUSING ON CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE SECURITY” Dr. Manu Nair represents Oregon Systems for the regional business development for Owl Computing Solution and for critical infrastructure in sales. This year in GISEC, Oregon Systems is showcasing critical infrastructure security solutions called the Data Dial solution. This is the first time they are showing the technology with a public company even though they have launched for customers before including Aramco, and other large petroleum companies, and the defence sector. “Our primary target is expansion within the MENA region with our target audience being the critical infrastructure. GISEC has been excellent for us as we noticed that people are actually willing to spend time with us since our technology is completely new and different from other companies showcasing here,” said Dr. Manu Nair, General Manager, Oregon Systems.
‘Driving Innovation’ has been the modus operandi of IFS since its inception. At GISEC 2017, we sat down with Bas de Vos, director at IFS Labs, and Luis Ortega, Managing Director for Middle East, Africa and South Asia at IFS for a crisp conversation on what this innovation means for IFS. “At IFS labs, innovation is not just a word,” says Bas. “We look into how technologies and trends are either disrupting the way consumers do business or how it is going to influence our solutions and offerings. Innovation for us is doing something in a different way and for us technology brings that difference.” Recently, IFS has revealed findings from its Digital Change Survey that polled 750 decision-makers from 16 countries including 38 from the Middle East. This survey was commissioned by IFS to assess maturity of digital transformation across industries on a global scale. Nearly 90 percent of firms surveyed (87 percent in the Middle East) have ‘adequate’ or ‘advantageous’ funding for digital transformation, indicating a strong willingness to invest and an appetite to evolve their business in order to stay competitive and grow. When asked about prioritized investment areas, the top three choices were IoT, ERP and Big Data & Analytics. These are reflected by the Middle East respondents with Big data & Analytics leading with 52 percent followed by ERP and IoT. Talking about their business model, Luis said, “We focus majorly on intensive industries like manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities etc that has complex supply chain process. They have a better appetite for IFS solutions. Traditionally IFS was a different type of ERP vendor and we used to distribute our solutions on our own but then that created some types of constraints. We have changed our go-to-market model in recent years and we now have a full-fledged IFS partner program and IFS academy wherein we train our partners. We work with various SIs regionally and globally and we also have some major technology partners who complement and enhance our offerings.” IFS also recently launched the new version of IFS Field Service Management that offers embedded integration with IFS IoT Business Connector and a reimagined user experience to deliver the most complete, connected field service.
