rganizations in the Middle East can finally see digitization come out of the boardroom and make some serious conversations in the mainstream enterprise. A digitally sound enterprise is being backed up by an equally smart city that calls for zero compromise on its security grids and networks. As the emerging threat landscape demands for a more resilient cyber security architecture, the regional decision makers are

making some serious yet planned investments in risk mitigation modules. Facing the reality of the present-day digital world is definitely far-fetched from the utopia that most enterprise thought it to be while embarking on the journey. The situation calls for the need of a layer security approach that would not only inject the required level of preventive intelligence into the enterprise’s model but also defend its perimeter with actionable intelligence. Yes, it is the era of connections.

Humans, thoughts and devices are finding unique ways to connect to each other and thereby build a cohesive yet intelligent cities. Having said that, other emerging technologies or trend like Bitcoin and Blockchain are trying their hands in capitalizing on IoT Staying digitally agile with zero compromise on security would be the predominant theme at the GISEC/IoTX 2017. It is time to explore some new realities this season!

GBM

Being the Trusted Advisor “We are increasingly seeing organizations focus on intelligence and analytics in order to gain valuable insights” NIRAJ MATHUR, REGIONAL MANAGER SECURITY PRACTICE GBM

ecosystem is the wide integration capabilities between different partners we provide our customers with in order to ensure the best ROI.

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION?

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? GBM has been one of the pioneers in sponsoring GISEC since its inception as we consider GISEC the chosen platform to launch the results of our annual security survey. This year, GBM has added a new element to its participation by transforming its exhibition space into a “GBM Majlis”. This regionally inspired space will be hosting customers and the public alike during the three days of exhibition. In addition to this, the public will have the opportunity to meet GBM’s leadership team during the conference, as Hani Nofal, VP of Intelligent Network Solutions, will have a keynote session on the first day, and Kevin Jones, VP of Software Solutions, will participating in a panel discussion on the topic “Selecting a partner not a vendor on your IOT Journey”.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES

THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? Today, security should not be seen as an isolated add-on, security needs to be considered for every new business initiative whether it’s a new application or additional infrastructure. It is necessary for security processes to be aligned with the business, however, management awareness of the impact of a cyber breach is low.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW HAVE THEY LEVERAGED YOUR POSITION IN THE MARKET? When GBM decided to enter the security market a few years ago, we actually had several engagements with our customers and industry leaders. Today we have a very rich, holistic, and integrated approach to security, which we propagate through the GBM Security Framework. We offer solutions across all domains, such as application, data, network, end point, people, and

security intelligence. We complement our solutions with our world class consulting services, these including professional services, risk and compliance, technical assessments, and managed security services.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK LIKE? For a security systems integrator like us, our partner ecosystem is very important, which is why we choose the best technology backed by a robust support system to ensure our clients can draw the benefits from their investments rather than get stuck supporting the security solution itself. Each of our domains is holistic, which means we offer multiple solutions in that domain from industry leaders, for example, in data security we provide database security, DB encryption, PKI, data classification, data loss prevention, etc. We have carefully chosen our partner ecosystem, including only those who lead that space. The second aspect of our partner

To be the information security partner of choice or “trusted advisor” for organizations in the region, offering them world class security solutions and services to help them achieve their business goals.

HOW IS THE ROLE OF CISO/CIO EVOLVING WITH THE THREAT LANDSCAPE GETTING TRICKIER DAY BY DAY? With more than 100 vendors in security to choose from and new security technologies hitting the market each year, it’s imperative for today’s CISO/CIO to prioritize risk mitigation measures. There is a shift towards focusing on detect-and-response capabilities, which CISO’s are now adopting across the region.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? We are increasingly seeing organizations focus on intelligence and analytics in order to gain valuable insights. They’re looking to not only detect and respond but also be predictive in their approach.

business, and a rewarding opportunity to drive more business profitability. We have recently announced the region’s most rewarding partner program and have received tremendous response which will see this ecosystem flourish even more.

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? Spire Solutions has been participating in GISEC since 2013. This year we will be showcasing IllusionBLACK, the industry’s most advanced 3rd generation deception technology from Smokescreen, threat exposure management solutions from Rapid7, and the best-in-class EDR and Threat hunting platform from Endgame.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? The challenges are many but not the same as those in other markets. One of the key challenges is that enterprises lack a broader

approach to address cybersecurity and crime. Defenders wait for a breach to happen rather than going after and hunting proactively for attackers. This results in real damage and bigger losses.Taking a proactive approach to security can help identity threats early and reduce the time and cost associated with incident response.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW HAVE THEY LEVERAGED YOUR POSITION IN THE MARKET? Spire Solutions has an extensive portfolio of information security solutions which include Endpoint Security, Automated Threat Hunting, Deception Technology, Web Session Security, Unified Threat

Exposure Management, and IT Security Monitoring. In addition to the above, Spire Solutions provides an array of services that include GRC, malware audits, threat hunting and incident response, breach readiness assessment, VAPT, web application security testing, security design and architecture review, and security operations support.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK LIKE? Our partner network in the region is comprised of VARs, system integrators and solution providers that together create a vibrant ecosystem in the market to address security challenges. We empower our channel partners with all the support they need to build a successful security

To help organizations build and maintain a secure, compliant and more confident operation and provide solutions and services that keep them one step ahead of the threat actors.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? We see more adoption of unique and proactive technologies and processes that help the organizations respond to attacks before they become incidents. In other words, the effort of the organization will be focused on detecting and responding before the breach. To this effect we see a major shift happening towards much better Endpoint Security, Network Security including Deception as strategy, and relevant visibility of the assets.

issue, but rather a business operation issue. Resilience allows a business to continue operating optimally, and rather than being considered as a cost of doing business, we believe it ought to be considered an economic accelerator given that trust in digitisation encourages usage, and much of this usage results in transactions that drive businesses and economies.

WHAT DOES IOT MEAN FOR THE MIDDLE EAST REGION? HOW FAR HAVE WE COME? IoT is a universal term around the world referencing the interconnection via the Internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data. For this geography specifically, IoT means leveraging the digital transformation that is occurring at a rapid pace, as nations identify investment in digital infrastructure as one of the most important social and economic developments of the time.

WHAT IS YOUR IOT STRATEGY? WHAT SOLUTIONS DO YOU OFFER TO THE

MARKET? We are a cyber security firm and our aim is to protect digital networks and assets end-to-end. We believe an interconnected eco-system is only as strong as its weakest point, and as such nations, enterprises, and individuals need to adopt a pro-active, 360-degree approach to cyber security resilience. In order to drive cyber security resilience to the centre of digital transformation, DarkMatter offers a full range of cyber security products, services, and solutions to protect digital networks endto-end. Our vision is to protect the future by securing its technologies. MIMECAST

Channel Driven Security Solutions “We offer an in-depth overlay team to support the channel in terms of enablement, marketing and relationship management” BRIAN PINNOCK , - REGIONAL MANAGER OF SALES ENGINEERING, MIMECAST

allows organizations to keep email running during an attack and recover to a last known good state once an attack is over.

HOW IS THE ROLE OF CISO/CIO EVOLVING WITH THE THREAT LANDSCAPE GETTING TRICKIER DAY BY DAY? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? This is Mimecast’s second year at GISEC and we will be highlighting our advanced email security services that help protect against spear-phishing, ransomware and impersonation attacks.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? Middle East organizations see greater volumes of attacks and have suffered larger losses than other regions in the world last year due to cyber incidents. One of thethreat areas that has been mostly ignored by enterprises is email security. But more than 90% of cyber-attacks start in email. E-mail itself is seldom the end goal of the attackers and over 70% of these attacks lead to other systems. These email attacks predominantly feature techniques such as spear-phishing, ransomware and impersonation of key employees.

Another topic that increasingly needs attention from Middle East organizations is the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into force on 25th May 2018. Businesses offering services to EU citizens, regardless of where they are based or whether they hold any data in the European Union, will have to adopt more stringent data protection rules.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW HAVE THEY LEVERAGED YOUR POSITION IN THE MARKET? Mimecast helps make email safer for businesses around the world and improves their cyber resilience against attack or misfortune. Our cloud services bring together three core areas where email needs helps: security, continuity and archiving. Our security suite Mimecast Targeted Threat Protection helps identifymalicious links, weaponized attachments, impersonation emails used to attack organizations. We also monitor for these attacks in

internally-generated emails and use data leak prevention technologies to stop confidential data leaving an organization by error or rogue intent.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK LIKE? Mimecast is a channel-focussed vendor and works with a number of strategic partners across the Middle East to offer its products to businesses across all verticals and sizes. We offer an in-depth overlay team to support the channel in terms of enablement, marketing and relationship management.

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION? Mimecast believes that email security is critical to ensure cyber resilience against targeted attacks and IT failure. As email moves to the cloud such as Microsoft Office 365, advanced security still requires a defense-in-depth strategy. Mimecast protects against evolving attacks,

Balancing security with usability is a tough challenge, especially in the rapidly moving threat and compliance landscape. As part of wider risk management exercises, IT leaders need to carefully consider the people and processes that make their business secure.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? Nation states or other political actors may use cyber espionage more and more to cause political shifts, disruption, or to gain economic advantage. This will include email hacking and disclosure of other forms of intercepted private communications, alongside interference with critical national infrastructure. Hacking used to be technically difficult. Now it is becoming as easy as online shopping with malware-as-a-service that could massively increase the number of threat actors capable of attacking organizations. Ransomware will explode to become one of the biggest threats, fueled by smaller ‘opportunist’ attackers using off-the-shelf kits to deploy malware.

ing network of partners, enabling Carbon Black to continue grow their business in the ME market.

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION? The most complete endpoint security platform that stops the most attacks and helps create a world safe from cyberattacks.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING AT GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? This is Carbon Black’s third year participating in GISEC. This year our focus is on empowering the enterprise with threat hunting and endpoint detection and response.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST ORGANIZATIONS ARE FACING? Many organizations in this region are not giving enough attention to protecting the endpoint – where the actual data is. Plain and simple, today’s attackers are going after the endpoint. Traditionally, security

has been focused on the network. With advanced attacks – such as ransomware and non-malware attacks – on the rise, forward thinking organizations should be thinking more about their endpoint protection strategies.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW DO THEY HELP ENTERPRISES COMBAT CYBER THREATS? Carbon Black pioneered next-generation endpoint security. Cb Protection is used for locking down datacenter servers and other critical systems. Cb Response is used for advanced threat hunting and incident response. Both products are used by the

world’s most security-savvy companies, including global leaders in Internet search, social media, transportation networks, and hundreds more. Our latest product, Cb Defense, is a cloud-based product that leverages our breakthrough “streaming prevention” technology to instantly see and stop cyberattacks before they execute, and integrates market-leading detection and response.

WHAT DOES YOUR MIDDLE EAST PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK LIKE? Westcon ME are the strategic distributor of choice that have been appointed for Carbon Black’s entire product portfolio. There is great opportunity for new partners to join our program and build on our exist-

HOW IS THE ROLE OF CISO/CIO EVOLVING WITH THE THREAT LANDSCAPE GETTING TRICKIER DAY BY DAY? CISOs/CIOsare challenged everyday by new threats, looming breaches, and evolving attacks. Many security leaders are also battling budgetary restrictions and talent deficits. On top of this, they face network complications, compliance implications and local government directives. The role of the CISO is no longer simply about technology – there is so much more to consider.

WHICH TRENDS DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE? An increased focus on the endpoint, along with scalability and integration, are the emerging trends in the region.

ME region by positioning market leading network security vendors who deliver best of breed technology and solutions to secure and protect the critical data of end users in our region.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? This is the 5th year we have been participating in the show. Westcon has attended GISEC since its inception in 2013 to showcase our Vendor partners and highlight Westcon complete solution offering including our extensive marketing, training, support and post-sales support services

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? The biggest challenge this market is facing is around the skillset of the network security engineering community. Most engineers are skilled with the traditional network security like advanced firewalls but lack the skills to deal with the more advanced threats, ransomware, spear phishing, etc. is causing headaches in the CISO community when building and

maintaining their security infrastructure. These advanced threats are also a challenge due the more focused way that these attacks are being propagated. As Westcon is an ATC for most of our vendors we are able to provide official classroom training to our business partners and end user community which is building the skillset needed to combat these threats.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW HAVE THEY LEVERAGED YOUR POSITION IN THE MARKET? Westcon has always prided itself with partnering with the market leading vendors in all aspects of Cyber Security. Working with vendors like Palo alto, Juniper, F5, Arbor, Symantec and Carbon Black to name but a few we are able to provide specific solutions or help our partners design a custom built holistic end to end solution to meet the end customer’s needs.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK LIKE? Westcon has a very diverse ecosystem of channel partners ranging from specialized network security partners, traditional IT Infrastructure partners, local Service Providers and leveraging our global reach we work with major global SP’s and global system integrators working in the region. This gives Westcon the ability to leverage global credit agreements and financing options for large network security projects in the region. We also support our partners with flexible financial models, an extensive marketing operation providing joint campaigns and events for our partners for lead generation,

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION? Westcon strive to support our reseller partner community with a market leading security distribution infrastructure in the

HOW IS THE ROLE OF CISO/CIO EVOLVING WITH THE THREAT LANDSCAPE GETTING TRICKIER DAY BY DAY? I agree the job is getting trickier, especially with all the evolving solutions on the market and the ever evolving threat landscape of network security. As the malware and intrusion attacks become smarter the job of a CISO/CIO is to try and think ahead and make sure their network security is one or two steps ahead of the next attack and that by introducing a new technology or enabling a new feature they are not exposing their network to a new threat.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? I believe that you will see more organizations using the public cloud infrastructure and moving more of their operations off premise. As most vendors have already some form of virtualization or cloud based threat detection you will see vendors offering more service based offerings including firewall as a managed service through some of the major cloud infrastructure

BARRACUDA

Simplifying Security “Ransomware has been dominating the news for several weeks and is likely to stay in the news for most of the year” HUSNI HAMMOUD GENERAL MANAGER BARRACUDA ME & T

HOW IS THE ROLE OF CISO/CIO EVOLVING WITH THE THREAT LANDSCAPE GETTING TRICKIER DAY BY DAY?

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? Barracuda has been participating in GITEX every year and now with a strong focus in cyber security in the Middle East market, Barracuda believed this is the right time to participate in GISEC as this is platform fully focused on Cyber threats and IoTX. Barracuda’s objective is to have the following a. To have visibility as one of the successful players of security in the market b. Increase reach c. Increase awareness and education on the products Barracuda has to offer.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? The major challenge that Middle East faces is that most cyber-security efforts at pres-

ent are reactive. Their focus is recovery from a cyber-attack, as opposed to attack prevention. An effective and enduring cyber-security program must include proactive cyber capabilities that can help to prevent such attacks.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW HAVE THEY LEVERAGED YOUR POSITION IN THE MARKET? Our products span three distinct markets, including: 1) content security, 2) networking and application delivery and 3) data storage, protection and disaster recovery. While we maintain a strong heritage in email and web security appliances, our award-winning portfolio includes more than a dozen purpose-built solutions that support literally every aspect of the network – providing organizations of all sizes with true end-to-end protection that can be deployed in hardware, virtual, cloud and mixed form factors.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK LIKE? As a global leader in security and data protection solutions, Barracuda is committed to meeting the diverse customer requirements by delivering a powerful, easy-touse and cost-effective product portfolio and helping to make IT professional’s life easier. The Barracuda Partner Program has been rated by CRN with 5 stars and offers various program offers, benefits and services that help our partners to successfully manage their business. We are always striving to grow together with our sales partners, who supply their customers with products, services and support at world class level.

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION? Barracuda provides cloud-connected security and data protection solutions that simplify IT

The threat landscape is constantly evolving and CIOs from public services to the enterprise are facing a global cyber skills shortage. Moving your Infrastructure to the Cloud, is important for organizations to understand ways to maximize benefits and minimize risks Ransomware has been dominating the news for several weeks, and is likely to stay in the news for most of the year. Ransomware is a distinct type of cyber-attack, in that it extorts payment from the victim in exchange for allowing access to something that was encrypted in the attack. The most prevalent type of malware used in this kind of crime is ‘crypto-ransomware’, which normally encrypts the files on the compromised system, and then demands a ransom in return for the ability to decrypt and recover the files. The latest iteration of crypto-ransomware is called Locky, and is the most advanced version of ransomware we have seen in the wild.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? IT transformation and transition to Cloud

INGRAM MICRO

Unlocking New Potentials of Cyber Security “We have a dedicated regional business unit focusing on the cyber security and the new markets as well as value added services” MARC KASSIS, CYBER SECURITY DIRECTOR INGRAM MICRO

THE THREAT LANDSCAPE GETTING TRICKIER DAY BY DAY?

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? It’s our first time to participate in GISEC Our Agenda: n To announce our strategy in adding value to the distribution for the Cyber Security Market such as the availability of IM Cyber Security Services and Trainings to our Business Partners and their clients. n To showcase new Cyber Security vendor partnerships and their innovative solutions.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? n Cybersecurity is still seen from the perspective of an external threat. Emphasis on the internal attacker is neglected, yet research shows that the risk from such internal attacks has been an increasing

worry across the world. n Cybercrime is a new phenomenon and most business leaders have not grown up with it. n Relying solely on defense will not stop a determined adversary to get through to confidential information. n Many organizations act only when a serious breach occurs. Taking a proactive security stance can slow the attacker’s progress and identify their actions early. n All sector of economic activity in every country can be affected and vulnerable. Few government agencies and organizations in the region has enforced standards or security frameworks so far and we believe that in 2017 this tendency is going to continue. n All of the above have generated the need for unified Cyber Security solutions that support the enhanced enterprise mobility and strict data disclosure laws.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS

SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW HAVE THEY LEVERAGED YOUR POSITION IN THE MARKET? Ingram Micro can help our Business Partners to represent most of the strategic Cyber Security vendors such as Cisco, IBM, Intel Security, Kaspersky, Symantec and others. We have a dedicated regional business unit focusing on Cyber Security and the new markets as well as Value Added Services.

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION? Unlocking Cyber Security Potential by providing Value Added Services and Training to our Business Partners and their clients.

HOW IS THE ROLE OF CISO/CIO EVOLVING WITH

As we said previously Cybercrime is a new phenomenon and most business leaders have not grown up with it.Accordingly, a proper Cyber Security Strategy for Enterprises needs to be built and developed. This will include Processes and People. The CISOs and CIOs are on the top of such initiatives and need to increase their awareness and educate their organizations.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? Cyber Security in the region is a concern of everybody. Therefore, any enterprise or small company exposed to the public, mass market or simply has a successful product or service needs to be protected. These sectors are going to be highly demanding in Cyber Security. I mean the Enterprise and SMB markets. In 2017, we are witnessing an increase of attention in the region from major security vendors and even high value technology start-ups such as IBM, Intel Security, Cisco, Symantec, Trend Micro, Fortinet, Fire Eye, Palo Alto, Nuix, HPE, Forcepoint, Phishme, A10, Alien Vault and others. This is going to continue this year with a particular attention to new market segments and with Value Added Services.

INTELLIGO NETWORKS

Mitigating Threats with Maximum Flexibility LIKE? We have local partners in the region and technology alliances with the strongest Cybersecurity companies on the world such as Palo Alto networks, Cisco, Bromium and others.

“The more sophisticated the attacks, the more educated the technical CISO must become at prevention architectures” KHALED MANSOUR, CEO, INTELLIGO NETWORKS

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? We’ve attended since 2015.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? Advanced malware attacks target systems through the MENA region. Many companies lack the tools and personnel to avoid compromise. It’s getting worse with very few firms or companies dedicated to preventing threats instead prioritizing higher level consulting contracts to develop cyber programs with a strong need instead to provide outsourced 24/7 managed security

with cutting edge tools.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW HAVE THEY LEVERAGED YOUR POSITION IN THE MARKET? We offer a Cybersecurity platform and managed security services to prevent all forms of cyberattack on companies. We have a dedicated team and software to detect and contain attacks by collecting log, traffic and endpoint security information with the ability to kill applications and network connectivity of any infected host.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION? To protect network, endpoint and cloud system from cyber-attacks where a company of any size with any Cybersecurity tools can mitigate threats not just ones with huge IT budgets.

HOW IS THE ROLE OF CISO/CIO EVOLVING WITH THE THREAT LANDSCAPE GETTING TRICKIER DAY BY DAY? The more sophisticated the attacks the more educated and technical the CISO must become at prevention architectures. The days of compliance and frameworks is over. A CISO has to stop the constant attacks the organization faces without delegating the understanding. CISOs will need more software and technical personnel with skills to test and validate cyber prevention within the organization. Where skills don’t exist they must build the programs needed to educate available resources.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? More attacks will produce more focus on prevention and less focus on legacy endpoint and firewall security that isn’t linked. In short a tie in with every network and endpoint transaction and the accuracy of machine learning will be required to prevent the threats that will increasingly compromise the region.

DAY? The role of the CIO/CISO is changing. They’re transforming from being just technologists to becoming actual business enablers. The security landscape is changing from having all applications in house within your own walls to moving services to the cloud. A failure to move to cloud services results in an inability to innovate and/or running a higher cost structure (compared to the competition) by doing everything in house.CIO’s need to change their mindset from being simply technologists to Digital Officers. Failing to evolve will result in these roles moving over to the Marketing organization.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? This is our second time we are participating. We had exhibited in 2016 as well.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? Government and businesses are looking to offer services through web, mobile and in person ...all while ensuring their services are secure.ME customers are becoming the target of hackers. This directly impacts the reputation of the business, which results in lack of customer confidence.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? The Middle East has not warmed up to the cloud yet. Adoption has still lagged projections. We expect adoption to pick up in 2017 through 2020, which will lead to a greater demand for cyber security. We expect cyber security to garner higher attention and become a priority for the board. This will lead to increased investments to improve the security posture of their organizations. We expect all of this to generate a demand for more cyber security professionals and service providers like Simeio. This is why we are investing in bringing our global expertise to the ME region.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK LIKE? WHAT DOES IOT MEAN FOR THE MIDDLE EAST REGION? HOW FAR HAVE WE COME? IoT symbolizes optimization. This is particularly true for the Middle East whose economies are based on oil. A barrel reaching 50 USD has constrained Middle East countries to find any means to optimize their revenues. IoT will help those countries to save and to generate more revenues through making things smart. The Middle East could benefit of the big potential of IoT. In that context, Dubai is taking the lead through the Smart Dubai initiative anchored in the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make Dubai the happiest city on earth.

WHAT IS YOUR IOT STRATEGY? WHAT SOLUTIONS DO YOU OFFER TO THE MARKET?

Actility’s IoT Strategy is founded onpioneering Low Power Wide Area network technology. Being a leading innovator in the space brings an “early to market” advantage in developing and deploying solutions and has helped Actility win many major deployments. It also drives the recruitment of partners to ourrapidlygrowing ecosystem of partners and suppliers.Actility’sThingPark is a carrier grade solution enabling scalable LPWA networks and interoperable IoT applications and services. ThingPark Wireless is a core network management and supervision solution for LPWA connectivity, designed from the beginning for carrier-grade solutions. ThingPark OS is a central IoT management service which enables operators to manage services and offers, and monetise their network.

WHAT CHALLENGES DO CIOS FACE WHILE INTEGRATING IOT STRAT-

EGY? WHAT ARE YOUR STRATEGIES IN GOING CIO-FRIENDLY? Because business cases in IoT are very dependent on achieving the lowest TCO, it’s vital that the CIO ensures that the stakeholders have clearly defined the use cases for IoT, accurately built the business case and ensure that what is finally implemented delivers that business. It’s also important to get the right partners involved in the project, working well together towards the same, well understood goal. Good network planning is key to TCO and to the use cases delivering service as intended, so it’s essential for the CIO to ensure that the network is planned by a team with deep expertise in LPWAN networks.

NEAR MOTION

Fortifying the Pillars of IoT “Governments can be regulators and early adaptors of the IoT in their efforts towards the eGovernment” FAISAL ALFERDOS, FOUNDER & DIRECTOR NEAR MOTION

RISKS INVOLVED IN THIS REGION IN TERMS OF IOT GROWTH? Beside the easiness of performing different kinds of government and business transactions there would be a risk of not securing the collected data and the interruption of the operational flow of information and transactions. Since several systems would be integrated in one big IoT solution the dependency would be effected if one system was interrupted, therefore risk and information security management is extremely important.

WITH THE PROGRESS OF IOT WOULD HUMAN CAPITAL BE ENDANGERED? It will, some industries will be completely automated for sure.

IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE WIRELESS M2M MARKET IS TO ACCOUNT FOR NEARLY $196 BILLION IN REVENUE BY THE END OF 2020. WHAT KIND OF TREND DO YOU SEE IN THE REGION AS FAR AS EMBRACING IOT IS CONCERNED? IS IT STILL MAJORLY A THEORY THAN PRACTICAL? IoT is now an existing reality more than a theory. Services like Smart Governments, Smart Homes, Fleet Management, and Mobile Engagement are applied in sev-

eral projects around the world and in the region.

HOW CAN BUSINESS HARNESS THE POWER OF M2M CAPABILITIES FOR HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY? It is all about increasing the efficiency of the service provider which would lead to customer satisfaction. Moreover, the big data that is collected on the go including the behavior of consumers and their satisfaction levels would increase their loyalty and satisfaction and this would reflect on the businesses future results.

HOW IS THE CONCEPT OF SMART CITY COMING ALONG WITH THE ENTIRE CONCEPT OF IOT? For city to be smart it would need two factors, contactless communication and continuous data collection for the several dots around the system. This would not be possible without the concepts of IoT.

WHAT IMPLICATIONS DOES THE GROWTH OF IOT HAVE IN THE MIDDLE EAST REGION? WHAT ARE THE SECURITY

WHAT IMPORTANT ROLE DOES THE GOVERNMENT PLAY IN ALIGNING WITH THE VISIONS OF IOT? HOW DO YOU PERCEIVE PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP COMING ALONG IN THE REGION? Governments can be regulators and early adaptors of the IoT in their efforts towards the eGovernment. PPP is not that important, I think governments should motivate local technology initiatives and entrepreneurs and empowering them to create an ecosystem that will eventually benefit the government initiatives including the economical ones.

SCOPE EXPERTS

Shield of Security “We are very confident in our technology and we expect our customers to see it as a game changer” DR. AHMAD HAMMOUD, VP TECHNOLOGY, SWITCH TECHNOLOGY

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION? Secure What Matters through simple, effective and mathematically unbreakable encryption appliances.

HOW IS THE ROLE OF CISO/CIO EVOLVING WITH THE THREAT LANDSCAPE GETTING TRICKIER DAY BY DAY?

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? This is our very first GISEC as exhibitors. We are very excited to launch our new family of products to help Secure What Matters. Security breaches are on the rise and we constantly hear of new attacks. Our latest set of products complement the security infrastructure that clients already have, but take it to a whole new level.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? Most organizations in the MENA region wake up to a new security threat every day. We tend to lag behind the US and Europe in adoption of new solutions but we don’t

have that luxury when it comes to information security. The needs for the MENA region is not different than those of the US or Europe: Simple, efficient, unbreakable network encryption.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW HAVE THEY LEVERAGED YOUR POSITION IN THE MARKET? Up until a couple years back, the only existing market solutions were based on encryption keys that repeat and with enough crunching power can be decrypted. In contrast, our product family called Shield is based on a mathematically unbreakable encryption technology called One Time Pad. Furthermore, we designed a product line that serves small to large workgroups

as well as personal mobile users. Our Shield Pocket is a tiny device, the size of an external hard disk, that you take with you and makes all your communication secure. Our Shield III is a third generation solution that can be installed in any office and can support up to 10 simultaneous users. And our Shield Pro is for server rooms and supports large pools of users.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK LIKE? The MENA region is definitely a very attractive market for us. We partnered with Scope, a local reseller and service provider, for IT service. Scope has ample experience with clients in the MENA region and has a proven track record of successful implementations.

Every CISO and CIO worries about security breaches. But what if, after a security breach, your network layer is rendered unreadable? Would you sleep better at night? At Switch Technology, we think security threats will always exist and breaches will continue, but responsible CISO’s will be prepared so that even if a breach takes place the sensitive data on their network layer becomes meaningless in the wrong hands.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? We do foresee tremendous growth in the MENA region based on market needs and awareness. We think mistakes could be very costly, much more than the cost of proper protection. And, we are very confident in our technology that we expect our customers to see it as a game-changer!

tems in place that are generally resistant to change. This might hinder the integration process, andby that time, they may have missed out on first mover advantages. As IoT technologies are relatively new, finding experienced technical support maybe a problem, and for market ready solutions to release, a competent team of technical support may be required, this forms an issue whereby how to attract and retain talent who are highly sought after.

WHAT DOES IOT MEAN FOR THE MIDDLE EAST REGION? HOW FAR HAVE WE COME? Advances in IoT will bring upon improvements and innovations in connectivity, not only in the GCC region, but globally. IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANIZATION’S PRIME SECURITY VISION. GlobalSign aims to be the choicest security partner for Enterprises and Government organizations across the world.

The role of CISO/ CIOs has outgrown the traditional areas of responsibility of acting as mere support to overall IT Infrastructure and responding to cyber threat incidents. As it is, the cost of recovering from a Cybersecurity breach is almost three times that of cost of preventing one. CISO/ CIOs are hence proactively building security in the organization design, which is a tremendous shift in the archaic approach of responding to threats once they occur. As key business enablers, CISOs/ CIOs are increasingly entrusted with the task of creating and enforcing cybersecurity best practices in the organization. Businesses expect them to constantly stay ahead of the curve in the cyber threat landscape and have risk mitigation and response strategies in place.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? Primarily, the Middle East market is on a steep curve to adoption of cloud based IT services. Most businesses are adopting the ‘Cloud first’ strategy. With security already assuming a strategic role in businesses, cloud based security solutions; including security for IoT & IoE would be high in demand in the years to come.

INFOWATCH

Securing the IoT “IoT now offers a myriad of industryspecific solutions that can be easily deployed by organizations in a bid to stay ahead of competition” NATALIA KASPERSKY PRESIDENT INFOWATCH

WHAT DOES IOT MEAN FOR THE MIDDLE EAST REGION? HOW FAR HAVE WE COME? According to a recent update to the Worldwide Semi-annual Internet of Things Spending Guide from International Data Corporation, the Middle East and Africa internet of things market is forecast to defy the region’s moderate economic outlook by growing 19.6 percent in 2017 to total $7.8 billion. The MEA IoT market is becoming increasingly competitive, enabling organizations to source a range of innovative digital solutions aimed at transforming business operations, improving the customer experience, and enhancing employee engagement. Indeed, IoT now offers a myriad of industry-specific solutions that can be easily deployed by organizations in a bid to stay ahead of competition. IDC expects the manufacturing,

transportation, and utilities industries to see the highest levels of IoT-related spending in 2017 as organizations across these verticals look to digitalize their operations and improve their value proposition across different lines of business.

WHAT IS YOUR IOT STRATEGY? WHAT SOLUTIONS DO YOU OFFER TO THE MARKET? The merging of information and infrastructure threats and, as a result, the inevitable splicing of different classes of protection systems is also worth a note. Separate protection tools are becoming ineffective. In addition, the pace of the emergence of new technologies is much faster than the development of means to ensure their security and a huge number of new technologies remain unprotected. For this reason, we consider it necessary to

introduce a single standard of certification for the “Internet of things” systems.

WHAT CHALLENGES DO CIOS FACE WHILE INTEGRATING IOT STRATEGY? WHAT ARE YOUR STRATEGIES IN GOING CIO-FRIENDLY? We are all already inside the IoT - the buildings surrounding us, the transportation is automatically controlled. And if a failure occurs, people will suffer. But today the precedent approach to security is often prevalent - until an accident occurs - a proactive approach is not used in most cases. Many key executives allocate money for security only when the incident has already occurred - they try to prevent it only when faced with a real problem. The difficulty is also in the fact that in the usual IT world, there is standardization

for operating systems, hardware - all these information security tools work together. And in the “Internet of things” today interacts with a huge number of different devices, and each has its own standards. For example, when developing one of our products, we counted 4000 modifications of smartphones. And to offer a universal solution for protecting information for the entire range of devices and platforms is a backbreaking task for any vendor today. If new devices based on different platforms constantly appear, protection tools will always lag behind. Therefore, the newest devices will not be a priority protected. One of the possible measures is the creation of a register of secure devices for the “Internet of things.

WHO ARE YOUR MAJOR CUSTOMERS SO FAR AND WHO ARE YOU EVALUATING NOW? Among the current international clients are the Central Bank of Bahrain, the First Energy Bank of Bahrain, Gateway Rail (India), Petrochem (UAE), the Ministry of Education of Greece and many others.

WHAT IS YOUR FOCUS CUSTOMER INDUSTRY/ VERTICAL IN THIS MARKET? Finance, Banking, Government, Manufacturing and Oil and Gas.

SEARCHINFORM

Going Beyond the Classics “We work with internal threats, which are essential, which are on the rise and which could be very damaging” SERGEY OZHEGOV, CEO, SEARCHINFORM

data loss, data leakage, and other harmful insider activities.

HOW IS THE ROLE OF CISO/CIO EVOLVING WITH THE THREAT LANDSCAPE GETTING TRICKIER DAY BY DAY?

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PARTICIPATING IN GISEC AND WHAT IS YOUR GISEC 2017 AGENDA? This is our first year. After exhibiting at GITEX 2016, we realised that the companies of the region have an interest in our technology and approach. Thus, we decided to take part in GISEC 2017 to share more insights into what we can do for the local business, as well as support our partners from the UAE, the KSA and Oman.

WHAT ARE THE CYBER SECURITY CHALLENGES THAT MIDDLE EAST IS FACING? First and foremost, the increasing number and the variety of threats, which makes many companies vulnerable, as they may not be fully equipped to handle this challenge in a timely manner. Another one is the need to shift the focus to prevention of info-security breaches instead of aftermath investigations, as not

every company is able to survive even a single serious incident, let alone a series of attacks. Third, the UAE is the country filled with expats. Naturally, every nationality has its own language, mentality and motivation. These differences must be considered in the holistic information security.

WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS YOU GO TO THE MARKET WITH? AND HOW HAVE THEY LEVERAGED YOUR POSITION IN THE MARKET? Our main product is SearchInform DLP. In spite of the name,it is a solution that goes far beyond a classic DLP. We work with internal threats, which are essential, which are on the rise and which could be very damaging. Our technology helps business and government institutions focus on risk mitigation and prevention of data theft and leakage, as well as other harmful activities, like bribes, kick-backs, abuse of power,

sabotage, espionage, etc., via monitoring virtually all communication channels, behaviour patterns and connections.

HOW DOES YOUR PARTNER ECOSYSTEM LOOK LIKE? Our partners are locally established companies who work in the information security domain, and who could handle implementation of a DLP solution from start to finish. We invest in proper education and support and promote one of the most efficient and transparent cooperation models, which implies offering a thorough Proof of Concept stage to qualified clients before any commitment.

IN A SENTENCE, DEFINE YOUR ORGANISATIONS PRIME SECURITY VISION? Holistic approach - monitoring all communication channels, activities, behaviour patterns andconnections- is the only way to effectively prevent the damage from

Knowledge, maturity, experience are the virtues absolutely necessary over and above even the most advanced technology; as this business is all about the people, people on all sides, people as social beings. These virtues ought to be promoted and cultivated. We run a learning centre at our HQ for info-security professionals, who, in addition to learning technological and psychological agenda, get to interact with each other and the crew, and share their professional insights, which are not available anywhere else. It’s a good way to share the exclusive knowledge, forwe strongly believe that a seasoned professional makes all the difference.

WHICH TREND DO YOU FORECAST FOR THE REGION’S SECURITY LANDSCAPE IN THE DAYS TO COME? We believe that the means of proactive and preventive measures are going to dominate the landscape. Early detection of potentially harmful activities and behaviour, early alerting on abnormal events are the area’s most of the info-security technology companies are focusing on, as that’s where the demand is.
