Attracting Millennials to a Digital Workplace GBM’s prime spotlight at the GISEC 2017 was the 6th Annual Security Survey that polled over 1400 individuals in the GCC from three generations; Gen X, Y, Z. The crux of the survey and the white paper that followed was to understand the GCC enterprises challenges in attracting the millennials to a digital workplace. Shedding more light on that, Hani Nofal, says “This year our major focus is on attracting and retaining the next generation in the digital workforce. This year our annual security survey focused on three different generations and compared them in terms of their digital behavior, social media footprints and their expectations when it comes to their workplace and how the region is reacting to that. We looked at three aspects and one of them was the social media footprint and usage in three generations; Gen X (senior level executives from mid to late thirties and all the way up to late fifties), Gen Y (the millennials), and Gen Z (the digital natives). The key findings of the report say; Gen Y expects to be more mobile and more connected and has a much bigger footprint when it comes to social media. They expect to bring their own devices to their workplace which leads to the how the entire notion of BYOD is also driving security challenges in the enterprises. There also seems to be a disconnection between the generations X and Y when

it comes to the organization’s readiness to predict and prevent cyber attack. Gen X is more aware of their privacy as they preferred COPE program and they have a smaller social media footprint. The report that we are generating from this will help address the difference of behavior around these aspects where companies should look at the best of both worlds while recruiting a new generation of workforce like BYOD, COPE and CYOD (Choose Your Own Device) as this would be the trend going forward. Workplace technology is a key area of any business today. A workforce survey stated that a vast majority of recruitment heads are finding it hard to attract and retain millennial

talent in modern workforce. Millennials have grown up amidst a breathing technology environment and expect the same from their employer and their workplace. Therefore it is very important for the senior generation to create a welcoming and secure digital workplace for the millennials to come in. Digital enterprise is an amalgamation of smart technologies, empowered and flexible work atmosphere and these millennials not only demands the freedom of choice in regulating their own work environments, but also possess the consciousness to fortify their perimeters of security to evade any unknown threats or malicious behavior.

‘Bullish’ on Security As the security market gets more vibrant with each passing day, Spire Solutions claims that they are leaving no stones unturned in keeping the security curve up and running. Sanjeev Walia, CEO of Spire Solutions says, “The market will be more vibrant now because of the various grave attacks that happened recently. We can see more and more organizations realizing the need for a resilient security architecture. Even small organizations are realizing this needs and this is a very interesting aspect for us. Security has a good future as long as they are bad actors. Security will evolve.” “The biggest feature or value that we look for in our partners is their ability to solve real problems. For example, Rapid 7 has a solution for vulnerability management that works on the complete lifecycle , including vulnerability testing so you have less false positives . Today, in the market there is a huge shortage of trade resources and we have seen a lot of organizations spend a lot of time in resolving false positives while real threat passes by.” “We are very bullish when it comes to our portfolio. We have three strong vendors in our portfolio. Rapid 7 is already established in protecting a lot of organization in the region; We have Smokescreen that brings in a very niche technology of deception techniques; and on the EDR side we have taken on board Endgame which has strengthened our portfolio further.”

SANJEEV WALIA, CEO OF SPIRE SOLUTIONS WITH LIEUTENANT GENERAL DAHI KHALFAN TAMIM, HEAD OF SECURITY FOR THE EMIRATE OF DUBAI,

BINOY KOONAMMAVU, CEO AND PRINCIPLE CONSULTANT, VALUEMENTOR

ValueMentor is a specialist information security consulting and services company who do services like penetration testing specially focused on SME’s and large enterprises. Their service portfolio is primarily to detect the attacks early and delay it. Binoy Koonammavu, CEO and Principle Consultant, Valuementor says “There is a different style of participation this year compared to the previous years”. Being a consultant and services company, ValueMentor is vendor agnostic. They do not have any products and provide solutions that is best suited for the client. They operate primarily on a partner modem. Commenting on the Middle East security challenge Binoy said - “We do not acknowledge when there is a risk. The Wannacry attack itself tells the world that we are not ready for another ransomware attack. People are not ready to willingly accept that risk exists, they are connected with that risk and there is a learning for them to move forward”.

The threat

landscape is also evolving day by day. We are very focused in the security governance, risk and compliance and we have many strong vendors in our portfolio who have some niche offerings in this area. With more vendors coming together, we have more to offer and we believe that this helps us in catering to the evolving needs of the customers.” According to Garreth, the one factor that makes them stand a class apart is their local presence. “We see many vendors coming in for meetings with the customers and flying back. But we make sure that we are always available for our customers. We have a very strong local presence and our technical teams on ground in the region who are able to reach customers whenever they need them.” Credence has also signed new partnerships with Blueliv (Cyber Threat Intelligence & Analysis) and Rsam (GRC) at the show .

‘TRUSTED TRANPARENCY’

EDDIE SCHWARTZ, EVP- CYBER SERVICES, DARKMATTER,

It is the second year for Darkmatter at the GISEC and the organization has already seen a lot of potential dynamism in the security market that not only continues to evolve, but also proliferates the growth of a dependent and transparent security ecosystem. Talking about the evolving security market, Eddie Schwartz, EVP- Cyber

Services, Darkmatter, says, “Security market continues to change with the evolution of smarter citite, more and more enterprises moving to the cloud, and a greater concentration of cyber threat intelligence and security.” Continuing on the evolution of smart city and the growing IoT landscape, Eddie says, “ There has been a lot of good

A STEP FURTHER

initiatives around smart city. There is a lot of dependence on Police, oil and gas and other critical grids. We also have a resiliency model in our stand that shows the interdependency of these entities in creating a smart city.” DarkMatter launched a Trusted Transparency Programme and calls on the technology ecosystem to evolve its outlook to embrace more rigorous vetting of platforms, infrastructure, and operating systems to remove vulnerabilities. DarkMatter’s Trusted Transparency Programme will be available to approved entities and the review will be confidential between the customer and DarkMatter. For maximum security, the review will be conducted as the final stage of the procurement process. The review will be conducted in a clean room environment with appropriate controls that allow for full open review while protecting DarkMatter intellectual property.

Alvin Wu, Director-India, QNAP Systems says, ‘This is our third time at the GISEC/IOTX and we have seen a great value in this event. If we compare this with GITEX, the customers here are more dedicated and a majority of them come from enterprises segment. There may not be many people as compared to GITEX but the crowd is more of quality than quantity. So we have more time to discuss with our customers. Talking about QNAP’s presence and operations in the Middle East market, Alvin says, “In the Middle East market, we don’t have any competitors. We provide storage, Network Attached Storage solutions which is much more secure and easy to manage and easy to control. This is the value added benefit that we provide from our side for the customer. We are capable of working on multiple platforms and we can also run IoT solution plus the multiple features. To focus on the market right now, the time is really good. Everybody is investing and focusing a lot on their data. Data is the most valuable asset in the modern enterprise. It may or may not happen that they do not care about their device. Data is much important. Data is much bigger as it is the age of big data. So you need more devices, more storage and more security to realize it.”

Security is never an afterthought

SHAHNAWAZ SHEIKH, SALES & CHANNEL DIRECTOR - META & EASTERN EUROPE AT SONICWALL

IT security can’t be an afterthought! It’s at the core of everything organizations do. Without it, they can’t grow, can’t move forward and can’t innovate. Without effective security, organizations default to inaction, to not moving forward. And the recent Wanna Cry worldwide ransomware attack demonstrates just that,

with the consequences for some of the NHS hospitals’ patients, Renault who was forced to shut down some of its factories, costing them hundreds of thousands euros of losses per day. The explosion of advanced threats is rendering legacy network security solutions obsolete. Ransomware, zero-

FORSEEING SECURITY NEEDS day threats, encrypted malware and other attacks expose organizations to breaches that threaten business viability and compliance requirements. This creates the need for a new breed of network security solutions that deliver more than just breach detection. Organizations require automated real time breach prevention capable of handling threats delivered by any vehicle including web and email, over encrypted or unencrypted traffic, across any network including wired and wireless, and for not only PCs but tablets, smartphones and IoT devices. SonicWall’s automated real time breach prevention solution enables organisations to stay ahead of cybercriminals, allowing them to Innovate More, Fear Less and also meet their compliance requirements.

SEARCHINFORM UNVEILS ITS LATEST VERSION OF ITS DLP SOLUTION SearchInform demonstrates its next generation Data Loss Protection solution at the Gulf Information Security Expo & Conference at the Dubai World Trade Centre. With an increasing number of cybercrimes and cyberattacks on regional government entities and private organisations, GISEC 2017 shines the spotlight on the need for building a solid cyber security framework.“The Middle Eastern region has experienced a large volume of cyber-attacks over the last year, followed by many covert threats highlighting the need for proper security,” commented Sergey Ozhegov, CEO of SearchInform. “We are committed to helping organizations build their security platforms through our local partners and will demonstrate ways in which our technology protects commercial information from theft, leakage, industrial espionage, insider trading, and other pitfalls.”

STRIKE AGAINST BREACHES

MIKE EAST, VP FOR EUROPE, MEA

GISEC 2017 dawns as a true platform for Crowdstrike to establish its footprint in the Middle East. It is showcasing its technology used to stop breaches by using their technology, the Falcon Platform, equipping their technology with intelligence (using Falcon Intelligence), and using Crowdstirke services for pro-active and reactive professional services. The three together unify their services, technology and intelligence to be able to protect customers in the region. Mike East, Vice President for Europe, Middle East & Africa says that “this is mainly a trust based region, hence the trust has been phenomenal. There is a lot of opportunity in the middle east, especially Saudi, Qatar, Abu Dhabi,

Dubai.” Their target audience is anybody who has anything to protect. How they go to market is the nature of what they do is cloud, infrastructure less, managed hunting, incorporated intelligence, any organization that really needs to think about doing security in a different way is a target customer. Whether they are a large enterprise, a medium or small enterprise. “Ironically the smaller the organization, the more value we can bring them immediately, because the skills we offer are very difficult. Because of the nature of the technology, cloud only, infrastructure less, light weight sensor, multiple operating systems, we are an API driven we are perfect fit for the partner community.”

MOHAMED FAGIRI CEO, GRC3D.

GRC3D is an information security consultancy firm specializing in two areas: governed assistant compliance, and identity and access management providing end to end solutions. They are a van diagnostic working with the customer taking them through the journey. Showcasing these areas of expertise and their ability to deliver at GISEC 2017. They partner with vendors and system integrators as they are a delivery partner, they’ve seen a gap in the market where there is a lack of expertise when it comes to specific kind of solutions. GRC3D works with system integrators such as Verizon to deliver a project for the federal government. “Verizon came in as the main contractor but they were looking for a local partner to do the delivery end. We understand the culture and we have a multinational professional team here and have been delivering in 10 countries in Middle East and Africa, so we understand the local market. Our consultants understand the technology and the business case. We are able to take the customer with them through their journey.” said Mohamed Fagiri CEO, GRC3D.

Smart Encryption Holding the Fort

MAHER BISSANY, VP OPERATIONS AT SWITCH TECHNOLOGY

Switch Technology is a swiss based company which is showcasing their new solution called Shield this year at GISEC. Shield is a complimentary encryption solution. Their target is mainly the government. Military and large corporations. Hacking has become a trend now. Maher Bissany, VP Operations at Switch Technology comments, “Companies that take encryption and security seriously are aware that most commercial solutions can be broken in to. We’ve spent three years developing this multi-million-dollar unbreakable algorithm which has been mathematically proven to not be broken into. Behind a company’s existing security solutions, VPN, firewall, this algorithm is placed on top of the network layer, and anything that goes through your network is encrypted. In cases where there is a head office or main office and branches you set up 2 pieces of equipment based on the algorithm called One Time Pad and everything that goes in and out is encrypted. In worst case, Hackers who end up penetrating the network will not be able to see anything. What they do see will be encrypted. They cannot break into it.” Shield is 100% secure.
