arkMatter, the international cyber security firm headquartered in the UAE, and UAE telecommunications service provider, Du, participated in an exclusive media roundtable hosted by their respective CEOs to address the highly topical issue of cyber security in a rapidly digitising world. Faisal Al Bannai, Founder and CEO of DarkMatter, and Osman Sultan, CEO of du came together to offer their respective perspectives on the
critical role that cyber security plays for smart and hyperconnected digital environments to reach their full potential. Given the rise of Smart Cities, which leverage billions of intelligent, instrumented and interconnected devices and sensors, the requirement to add immunity to the ecosystem is paramount to its continued operation and sustainability. There are already estimated to be 2.1 billion smartphones in use globally today, with 2.2 billion people connected to the web and tens of billions of connected devices forecast to be in use in
the coming years. Faisal Al Bannai commented, “The gains from digital transformation are enormous and obvious. However, we will not enjoy the benefits of a Smart City without the foundation of security. As the threat landscape expands to include billions of connected devices, we need to raise the bar for the security of that environment. We spend billions on security every year, and yet the cyber incidents continue to rise, and we believe there is a requirement for public-private
partnerships to ensure cyber resilience is established across all government and commercial digital ecosystems.� DarkMatter is the Cyber Security Innovation Partner at GITEX Technology Week 2017, where it is showcasing its progress in bringing offerings to market aimed at establishing trust and cyber resilience in a Digital Society. UNCOMPROMISED VALUE Bulwark has been participating at GITEX for more than a decade now and has lined up an array of products and solutions to showcase at the show along with their vendors. As a VAD, Bulwark works with channel partners and system integrators to deliver solutions to end customers in the GCC. The products and solutions offered by Bulwark has increasingly become the key components in the IT projects in the region through the SI’s. The company feels that Machine Learning is growing in the region along with Internet of Things devices, and these connected devices are not secured. The cyber criminals can use these device as a point of attack. Looking into the emerging cyber threats in the region, Bulwark is coming up with variety of solutions. Mr. Jose Thomas Menacherry, Managing Director, Bulwark Technologies says that there is skill shortage in the region, and human error is also one of the cause for the breaches. Users must be educated made aware of attacks. “Employees get emails from the CFO of the organization which could be fake, but they open the link which could cause a breach. In such cases, training and awareness is needed” says Jose. Talking about what they are planning for their customers in 2018, Jose says “End customers are not new to us and we understand their pain points. We always hold hand with the partners and deliver solutions to end customer.”
He adds, “We are a group of companies that was founded in 2000. Resello was born in 2012 and we have managed more than 2 million domain names worldwide. SAUDI NATIONAL DIGITIZATION UNIT HIGHLIGHTED THE IMPORTANCE OF SMART CITY INNOVATIONS AT GITEX The Saudi National Digitization Unit highlighted the importance of the Smart Cities innovations being showcased by digital transformation enablers such as SAP at GITEX Technology Week to transform urban life, real estate,
and hospitality. Across the Kingdom, government agencies are rapidly adopting cloud-based solutions, which are driving efficiency and new government services models. As a result, Saudi Vision 2030
is enabling nationwide digital transformation and driving the goal of increasing the non-oil government revenue from SAR 163 billion to SAR 1 Trillion by 2030. As the Internet of Things era connects people

AVANZA SHOWCASES BLOCKCHAIN SOLUTIONS Avanza Solutions unveiled its solutions at the GITEX Technology Week. The innovations, based on Avanza Solutions’ blockchain platform Cipher, are set to revolutionize the two-way interaction between the public and private sectors and their customers and residents, respectively. Having a booth at the Smart Dubai, they are delivering reconciliation and settlement plot project on blockchain for the Dubai Government which is supposed to go live in December. “Dubai government has been really impressive and has been keeping us on our toes and have absolute clarity of thought. Doing a project with Dubai government is an honor for us” says Waqas Mirza, Managing Director, Avanza Solutions. In addition, Avanza Solutions has also been working in partnership with Avaya to develop the Happiness Index on Blockchain. The solution will enable organizations to better monitor and react to customer satisfaction in real time. Happiness Index on Blockchain showcases how companies and government organizations can leverage blockchain to securely collect and integrate data from multiple sources. “Jointly with Avaya, we are trying to capture customer sentiment in real-time through unstructured interactions. These interactions are analyzed in real-time and then we try to gauge the sentiments from these interactions. We also try to determine the causality. We are here to learn and collaborate and like every year GITEX is a platform to market ourselves” concludes Waqas.
MOI SAUDI PARTICIPATE FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR AT GITEX The Ministry of Interior (MOI), Saudi Arabia is participating in the GITEX Technology Week for the third time and this year with 14 sectors. MOI is here to showcase the strength of innovative applications used throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in support of the digital transformation agenda 2020. The sectors representing include the general administration for cable and wireless communications, General Agency for Regional Affairs, Civil Affairs, Public Security, Civil Defense Cyber Security Centre and so on. The Ministry of Interior is at the show to showcase various initiatives and technological solutions. “One of our platforms is digital identity which is a national system to provide identity for all the citizens. And people get the chance to gain identity from the trusted environment which is the ministry of interior,” says Colonel Naji Mohammed Alkahtani, National Digital Identity Program Manager for the Ministry of Interior, Saudi Arabia. Commenting on the last 3 days at GITEX, Mr. Naji witnessed 3000 and 3500 visitors on the first and second day of the show simultaneously. “We have 10 initiatives and by next year some or all of them should be under production. Many customers are interested in products and we look to participate at GITEX every year.”

ATTIVO NETWORKS TACKLES CLOUD THREAT DETECTION GAPS Attivo Networks has expanded its ThreatDefend Deception and Response Platform cloud data center detection support to include Azure deployment capability in addition to existing support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and OpenStack. Additionally, the company announced its ThreatDirect solution, which is designed for remote and branch offices
(ROBOs) and can be used for microsegmented networks. The technology removes the need for a local BOTsink deception server, reducing cost and eliminating the necessity for skilled local resources. These solutions are specifically designed to address the growing challenges associated with lateral movement threat detection within cloud data centers and the often
inconsistent security controls within ROBO environments. “In addition to increased responsibility and workload, security teams are challenged by the industry-wide cybersecurity skills shortage,” said Tushar Kothari, CEO of Attivo Networks. “To address this, we have put an emphasis on building efficient solutions that provide accurate detection and extensive visibility
into the lateral movement of threats within the evolving cloud attack surface. This will close the detection gap for remote locations, which often have limited facilities and lack the skilled resources required to manage security controls.”

Seidor is an SAP Platinum Global partner with a wide portfolio of products and SAP services covering consulting, infrastructure, implementation, development, maintenance of applications and outsourcing services. We do ERP, CRM, business intelligence solutions, supplier relation management. How has GITEX been so far? This is the second year we are exhibiting at GITEX and it has been busy and we have met a lot of people who are interested in our SAP solutions. This year we are focusing more on the cloud solutions. I agree that the adoption of cloud in the Middle East has been slow because it depends on the infrastructure capabilities. UAE is very advanced when it comes to infrastructure connectivity. To think of an example, earlier we used to have power generators but today we have utility providers. It is the same with cloud business. If you don’t have a cable infrastructure to deliver the service to you in a practical manner, then you cannot go on the cloud. What new can we see from Seidor in 2018? We want to emphasize on our role here as a leader specially in SAP implementations. We came here only 3 years ago but have already established a footprint in the region. We do not want to give the customers what they want, but give what they need. And this has been our slogan.

Batelco has been presented with the award for Best Sophos Partner in Bahrain, at GITEX 2017 by Bulwark, the regional distributor for Sophos products. GITEX is the biggest annual ICT event in the MENA region, currently taking place at Dubai’s World Trade Centre. Speaking following the presentation, Batelco Chief Operations Officer Abderrahmane Mounir said that Batelco is very pleased to have achieved this success and received the Best Sophos Partner award for its efforts in delivering Sophos products and solution for its business customers. “This achievement would not have been possible without the diligent efforts of many teams at Batelco who continue to prioritise the requirements of our business customers,” he said.
