Future IT Summit 2016- A new benchmark is set n B Y: S O N A L L U N A W AT, < S O N A L @ A C C E N T I N F O M E D I A . C O M >
‘Every accomplishment starts with a desire to try’, this motive to try and enhance the IT framework by bringing together experts, industry veterans, vendors, channels, partners and end users in a unified platform led to the inception of Future IT Summit. IT isn’t just a term or concept; it is an evolving field comprising of various aspects. Keeping in mind the importance of IT, the Future IT Summit always aims to bring the best talent from the industry and propagate interaction and exchange of ideas and knowledge through presentations, case studies and discussions. Enterprise Channels MEA hosted its first ‘Future IT Summit’ at the Address Hotel- Downtown Dubai on March 16, 2015. The quintes-
sential ballroom of The Armani Hotel served as a venue for Future IT Summit 2016 held on 6th and 7th April 2016. Weaved from the concept of delivering the best IT knowledge by veterans from the industry, Future IT Summit 2016 was a two-day event that showcased the capabilities of the ‘CLOUD’ on Day 1. Cloud market’s analysis was done on day one along with aspects like security, storage, computing, maturity, present situation etc. Internet of things has always been a part of IT environment, however it has recently become a buzz word, many reports and analysts have deemed it as a revolutionary vision of a far out technology future, while on the other hand we have various use cases and solutions that have already been applied to the concept.
The contrasting opinions when it comes to IoT is a strong reason to understand the intricate pattern of M2M world. The myths and realities of IoT in the present world were thus evaluated on day 2. The power packed sessions focused on IoT and its growing significance along with applied solutions pertaining to IoT, the interlinked challenges in the M2M world and the progress related to a ‘Smart’ world were the key highlights. Along with two super charged panel discussions, the summit also explored the penetration of modern technology in 5 countries of GCC- KSA, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, and India too. Key government officials from the respective country presented some amazing case studies on the technical readiness of their countries.. ë
THE HONORABLE CONSUL GENERAL OF INDIA, MR. ANURAG BHUSHAN INAUGURATED THE SUMMIT. HIS ATTENDANCE FIRMLY MARKED INDIA AS ONE OF THE LEADING COUNTRIES IN ADOPTING COMPETITIVE TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS.

—MR TONY ZABANEH CHANNEL SYSTEMS ENGINEER, FORTINET
Tony analyzed the key security breaches in 2015 and said that the reason for these cyber-attacks were ;the enterprises focusing too much on compliance, risk based approach and numerous point solutions. Tony emphasized the need of a multi-layer, multi-technology solution that features a strong prevention layer but also includes the ability to detect when an intrusion has happened and can trigger the necessary steps to be taken in response to that intrusion. The framework includes three distinct areas, Prevention, Detection and Mitigation. Tony said, “The key aspect of this framework is that rather than operating individually, the three areas are interconnected and work collaboratively, minimizing or even eliminating the gaps between products found in typical point product solutions.”

“Complex nature of integration is the number one concern for enterprises.” —MR ASHLEY WOODBRIDGE SENIOR SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT, CISCO
The presentation was divided into; promises, challenges, solutions and adoption. Promises of IoT in future are operational efficiencies, smarter business process, economic growth, safety and security, workplace optimization, regulatory compliance. The challenges pertaining to IoT include complex integration, need to automate extraction of insights and resulting action, data overload expanded security vulnerability, siloed network. Digitization and Internet of Things were other aspects Ashley spoke about. Today’s environment can be characterized having hyper distributed processes and environment. Ashley spoke about new approach which is needed to reach and analyze data as well as traditional and cloud native models. According to Mr Woodbridge an enterprise faces security challenges which includes growing attack surface, dynamic threat landscape and complexity and fragmentation. A threat centric security model and attack continuum before, during and after was also explained by him. The highlight of the presentation were the case studies on Global auto manufacturer and small engine manufacturer. The presentation ended with requirements for successful implementation of IoT, which includes Converged managed network, resilience at scale, security and privacy, distributed intelligence, application enablement.
The agenda for Mr Khalid’s presentation was today’s changing market dynamics, top IT considerations, aruba portfolio, third party partnership advantages and industry acceptance. Mr Laban said, “The user behavior is evolving, aspects like workforce flexibility, consumerized IT and new security vulnerabilities. With users carrying both IT-managed and personal devices, and connecting from anywhere to perform work related tasks, IT now has to deal with internal resources being accessed from coffee shops and airports, as well as internal documents like engineering plans, HR information, sales data making it onto smart phones, tablets and USB sticks.” He also spoke about issues including new threats due to malware specifically targeting mobile apps, zero day attacks being launched due to these apps being used in the office on a regular basis, and the fact that mobile devices are easily shared. The top IT considerations as per Mr Khalid is authentication and authorization, NAC services deployment, Architecture and coverage, management and visibility. “Replacing legacy AAA servers, rolling out managed guest and BYOD services and creating policies takes time and resources. Organizations will limp along with legacy AAA services that lack profiling and policy management and login and passwords for smart phones instead of certificates because it sorts of works. For organizations that are weary of spending too much time on guest networks, position the rich workflow and branding capabilities of an intelligent Guest solution. IT gains the ability to use various sponsor workflows that provide guest access governance and auditability. User Self-registration and MAC caching can simplify the user experience” said Mr Khalid.
