PERSPECTIVES

CONSOLIDATING THE SUPPLY CHAIN TO INCREASE COMPETITIVENESS

The strategy to attract investment to the city of Ensenada is focused in five main economic sectors, which are:

Advanced manufacturing

Maritime

Agribusiness

Hospitality and health sciences

Technology and Innovation

Taking the manufacturing and technology sectors as examples, we are facing new challenges, which require new skills and operational flexibility, throughout the city's existing supply chain network.

Ensenada has a very broad economic ecosystem regarding the types of sectors operating in the city.

Different types of industries converge such as aeronautics, automotive, electronics, medical devices, maritime, textile, which makes an interesting complexity of the network and the interdependence requirements.

Our municipality is bringing the attention and interest of international companies to start new operations and/or expand existing ones. It is necessary to evaluate the competitiveness of the supply chain ecosystem, as well as the elements that integrate it: businesses, suppliers, partners, talent, logistics, systems, processes, information requirements, and resources.

An initiative that we are promoting from the Ensenada Economic Promotion Commission (COPREEN) is a study of the profiling and evaluation of the functioning and operation capabilities of companies that provide services and/or products to the manufacturing sector. The study is focused on companies that offer Contract Manufacturing services; However, the evaluation goes beyond internal functioning, it includes information on the supplier and/or network services, internal organization, quality, computer and logistical systems.

The importance of Contract Manufacturing is fundamental, since it is the first step that many companies take to evaluate the feasibility of operation and operability before settling in a city.

In Ensenada there are many companies dedicated to this economic sector, and evaluating the level of operation is very useful to identify opportunities to increase the level of competitiveness to make our city even more attractive to setting up operations.

There is a great opportunity to attract new investments, and it requires a great teamwork in the economic ecosystem, but having information at hand, organized and verified, makes the work of economic promotion more efective.
