My classmates need to stop being lazy and get themselves straight instead of following the crooked path. Life is great. I am attending STC. This is my second semester and I‟m passing all my classes.”

Pascual will be attending STC to work on an associates in auto collision tech. He will be the first in his family to attend college. “They helped me a lot here. Little by little they pushed me, so I could finish. Like Ms. Zuniga, Mrs. Bautista, Mr. Cantu, Mr. Villarreal, Mr. Martinez, and Mr. Troncoso. They could have said, „Look at this kid, he has a record, his age,‟ and forgotten about me, but they didn‟t. They gave me many opportunities to finish. Troncoso, he gave me lots of chances. He could‟ve given up on me because it was hard for me to behave, but he didn‟t. He helped me graduate. That‟s something that he didn‟t just give to me, but to my parents as well. I did it for them and for me.”

Alex Espinosa, 19-year-old graduate of JL ACE, was ecstatic when he achieved the credits needed to graduate this past December 2010. “ Even though I have no idea what Alex is talking about when he speaks about football, his passion for it is evident by his tone and sheer knowledge of the game. Alex spends his free time dragging his two brother‟s behinds through the mud while playing football in his neighborhood. He spends the rest of his time just being a kid hanging out with his friends talking about football and the occasional girls.

Alex came to La Joya ISD from Laredo, Texas in December of 2009 and he was loving the Husky life. After Alex‟s recent trip with JL ACE staff to a college fair in September 2010, he has a renewed interest in college after graduating this year. UTPA‟s business college is of particular interest to Alex because he would like to eventually get a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, BBA, to own his own business.

Don‟t be fooled by Alex‟s very polite and well mannered demeanor. He is an extraordinarily curious young man with very big dreams. Given the opportunity he will keep you engaged for hours on end.

“I think Juarez-Lincoln ACE is a great school for people, like me, who want to finish or catch up with their credits. Many people say that this school is where all the bad kids go. I believe JL ACE is a place for second chances. I like this school because of the respect the students and faculty give me. The origin of my alter EGO came from my philosophy that people only know very small portions of themselves. A lot of people try to solve the RiDDLe of life, when the biggest RiDDLe is right in front of them when they stand in a mirror. I believe RiDDLes shouldn't be solved, but understood. SPEECHLESS Juarez-Lincoln ACE, with the support of La Joya ISD, prides itself on changing the culture of the struggling student population. Students are able to redirect, focus, and apply themselves to their studies in our small tight-knit community. At JL ACE our students know what it takes to succeed and are taking advantage of this second chance at freedom. The freedom to be among their cohort and graduate with their classmates in order to be a productive part of a bigger community.

Message from the Principal La Joya ISD has always worked hard to raise the aspiration level of all our students and to make them aware of a better way of life through education.

Life is never about not having problems, but about being able to deal with the ones we have. In life, it‟s not only what we do but what we don‟t do for which we are accountable. Keep you aspirations high and always reach for the stars. All of you have the opportunity to attend college. Don‟t throw it away. Go for it! A good career will give you meaning and purpose in life.

Juarez-Lincoln ACE‟s legacy is not only about getting your credits and graduating. It‟s about developing the will to continue and never give up!

We know it‟s not that simple, but it is worth a try.
