Stadium Campaign Moving Forward

ENMU is pleased to announce that behind-the-scenes progress on the new stadium has made great strides since our last update in February. The executive architects are SMPC Architects and the associate architects are McClain+Yu Architecture & Design. Both firms are from Albuquerque. The architects are working closely with the stadium planning committee in finalizing the official stadium plans.

ENMU has selected Bradbury Stamm Construction to build the new stadium. Their team is reviewing the architectural drawings and preparing cost estimates and timelines. If you have been on campus lately, you’ve seen stakes marking the location for the new stadium just southwest of Greyhound Arena. The land has been evaluated to determine the necessary construction specifications. This will be a stadium we will all be proud of and that ENMU athletes and students will make use of for generations.

But before the celebration begins, we still have work to do. “Don’t let all this progress fool you into thinking we’ve reached our fundraising goal,” warns Steve Doerr (BS 77), president of the ENMU Foundation.

“We’ve received tremendous support from our donors in raising $12 million toward the new stadium project. As the ENMU Foundation spearheads the efforts to raise the remaining

$3 million to complete the stadium, we know we can count on friends and alumni to finish the job,” Steve says. “The $3 million will ‘take us across the goal line’ on the campaign by assisting with funding critical components to a first class stadium that includes new walkways to the stadium, signage, lighting, park benches and other features found at the best stadiums in the country.”

The new stadium will take ENMU sports to the next level and enhance the “Eastern Experience” for all students, fans and visitors to Portales and the region. But we’ll need the help of alumni and friends to bring the Stadium “home”. Please go online to enmu.edu/Donate or call 888.291.5524 to find out more about giving opportunities.

Visit enmu.edu/StadiumBricks to place your name in perpetuity at the new stadium. You can purchase a brick for you or a loved one. The bricks will be placed near the entrance of the new stadium.

The ceremonial ground breaking is scheduled for June 6. It will be an exciting year ahead as the campus and the Portales community watch as the stadium is erected. The grand opening is anticipated for the kickoff of the fall 2016 football season.

Watch for updated architectural renderings in our August issue.

Scholarships for Students

USBank presented ENMU a $10,000 check designated to Starter Scholarships for New Mexico high school graduates attending ENMU. Starter Scholarships are awarded for the first semester of the freshmen year before the Lottery Scholarship funding begins. USBank’s parternship in Starter Scholarships will help kickstart a college education for New Mexico students. A Gift in Memory of the Ones You Love

Memorial Gifts

There are many ways for you to make a gift in remembrance of someone special that will have meaningful significance for years to come.

A Memorial Gift of Cash or Property

A gift of cash is one of the simplest ways to remember your loved one or a friend. You receive a tax deduction for the value of your gift to the ENMU Foundation. When you make your gift, please designate the person you wish to remember and the best way that we can honor them.

If you are making a memorial gift of appreciated stock or real estate, your deduction may depend on the type of property gifted. Please call the ENMU Foundation to discuss the treatment of your gift and the best way to transfer your property to ENMU, or visit enmugift.org for more information about gifts of property.

Make a Deductible Gift and Receive Life Income

You may wish to make a memorial gift while providing current life income for yourself. If you are looking for ways to increase your income you might consider these options for memorial gifts:

Gift Annuity

With a memorial gift annuity, you make a gift of your cash or appreciated property in honor of someone and the ENMU Foundation promises to pay you fixed income for life (with rates based on your age). You receive a charitable deduction for the value of your gift. What's left after you pass away goes to ENMU as a gift in memory of your loved one.

Unitrust

If your memorial gift is made to fund a charitable remainder trust, you can receive income monthly, quarterly or annually. You benefit from a charitable deduction for your gift this year and avoid paying capital gains tax on the sale of your appreciated assets. The remainder passes to ENMU as a gift in memory of your loved one.

Make a Bequest

You may consider making a memorial gift in the future. By directing that a gift be made in someone's honor in your will or living trust, you can continue their legacy.

Your bequest may be made in the following ways: make a gift of any cash amount; give a specific asset from your estate; make a gift of a percentage of your estate; give from the residuum of your estate.

Any of these methods are ways in which you can honor someone and create a lasting memory.
