ENMU Foundation Receives Over $1.4 Million in Donations

The ENMU Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce that alumni and friends have contributed over $1.4 million to ENMU scholarships and top university funding priorities in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2007. A tremendous THANK YOU to all who helped us wrap up another successful year. Every gift makes a tremendous difference at ENMU.

The ENMU Foundation does not charge an administration fee on your contributions, so 100% of your gifts are allocated exactly where you intended it. We simply ask our alumni to remember the ENMU Foundation as one of your top funding priorities when choosing which charities you support annually. Education is one of the best ways to change not only one life but many lives.

We appreciate those who give annually to support scholarships and departmental needs and those of you who also remember ENMU in your estate planning. You are all making a difference one student at a time.

For more information on how to contribute and/or volunteer your time and talents to advance ENMU for the future, please call Noelle Bartl toll free at 888-291-5524.

Roswell Couple Established 2nd Charitable Gift Annuity with the ENMU Foundation

1957 ENMU graduate Roy Isler and his wife, Leona Isler, of Roswell, N.M., presented ENMU $50,000 in April 2007 establishing their second Charitable Gift Annuity with the ENMU Foundation.

Roy Isler speaks highly of his former professors and administrators including Dewey Langston, Leroy Pinnell, C.B. Wivel, Ira C. Ihde, Carl Parker, Thelma Mallory, C. M. Stookey, P.M. Bailey, Henry Hahn and the list goes on. They attribute much of their “reasonably successful” life to ENMU. “We had to borrow money to even get married,” said Roy, “but it is the fine faculty and administrators at ENMU, more so than Texas Tech, who we owe so much gratitude to over all these years.”

Their philanthropic generosity will establish the Reid Allen Isler Memorial Scholarship Fund for education, fine arts and pre-med students. They both adamantly believe that “It was simply our time to give back.”

The Islers established their first Charitable Gift Annuity in the amount of $300,000 with the ENMU Foundation in 2005. Charitable Gift Annuities start at $10,000 and traditionally provide better interest rates than certificates of deposit that are also guaranteed for life, offer significant tax benefits, and an opportunity to make a charitable gift to the ENMU Foundation. For more information on donations, call Noelle Bartl at 888-291-5524.

Thank you to everyone who supported ENMU during Campaign Eastern. Campaign Eastern was a campaign to build alumni support from April 1, 2003, through March 30, 2007. During this multi-year campaign, over 1,000 alumni made financial contributions totaling more than $3,195,850.43 for scholarships and departmental support.

Thank you to all alumni and friends who supported ENMU via Campaign Eastern for making this possible. A new plaque recognizing donors of $500 and above has been made and will be displayed at ENMU.

The 1957 undefeated football team...

will celebrate their 50-year reunion when they return to campus in October for the 2007 homecoming activities. The pride of every student of Eastern rose a notch during the 1957 football season — and justly so, for a team that became the first to complete a varsity season undefeated in the history of the University. Nine opponents fell before the Hounds’ mighty attack, while one was more than satisfied to settle for a tie with the twelfth nationally-ranked pack.

The team will be joined by the ’57-’58 basketball team, cheerleaders and many friends. Team member Buck Wilson and Coaches B.B. Lees and Carl Richardson will host this much anticipated event, where many “remember when” stories will be exchanged.

And that’s the story — a bunch of little guys that, when combined, made something big: the undefeated 1957 Greyhound football team.

Eastern Students Receive Alumni Scholarships

Twenty ENMU students were selected to receive 2007-2008 Eastern Alumni Association Scholarships totaling $20,000. This scholarship was established in 1993 by the Alumni Association Board of Directors to provide financial assistance to ENMU graduates’ children and grandchildren pursuing their degrees at Eastern. The MBNA affinity credit card program sponsored by the Association produces income for the scholarships. To date, $88,650 in scholarships has been awarded.

The 4th Annual Shrimp Boil, hosted by the Portales ENMU Alumni Chapter, was held at the Portales Country Club with over 200 guests in attendance. Through donations and ticket sales the event raised over $3,500.

The end result of this successful event was to help Portales High School students attend ENMU! Five $500 scholarships were awarded for the 2007 fall semester to Victoria Baca, Orlando Shelly, Sasha Parker, Latasha Ulibarri and Jennifer Madrid.

The ENMU Alumni Association offers scholarships every year to encourage and help support ENMU students. Recipients are chosen each year at the annual winter meeting of the ENMU Alumni Association Board of Directors. The deadline for the 2008–09 scholarship is Jan. 10, 2008. Interested students may contact the Office of Alumni Affairs at 888-772-3668 or e-mail brooke.parker@enmu.edu.
